The ONLY thing really superior is the WuwWuw part of ESO. It´s an awesomely humongous continuous map that actually feels like war, including PvE where you can get jumped by the enemy.
Compared to the tiny Zerg racetracks GW2 offers.
The only thing is… GW2 is 100x more fun because those “tiny zerg racetracks”.
ESO WvW is technically superior to GW2 WvW sure, but its not fun. Its was huge and impressive that way, but there was no organisation support, broken respawns and horrible lag (yeah, actually far worse than GW2 for EU peeps). An average 1 hour play time consisted of 50 minutes running and 10 minutes fighting 10+ people alone. Heaven forbid you want to go outside the zerg – you’re limited to sculking about in the PvE dungeons because you sure as kitten cant take a lousy camp without having 20 people. Soooooooo booooooooring. It was just too big. You could probably cut down Cyrodiil to half size and it would still be too big. Hell it was even reflected in the graphics design, scaling was totally off and it seemed like some producer had just looked at the art and said “This is supposed to be a 1:1 realistic bridge?! kitten that, scale it up to 1.4 so that its epic! No wait, we need more epic! 1.8, that’s better. Brilliant!”
We all want WvW to be just a little bit bigger, but definetly not like that. Bigger is not always better.
Solo its perfect.
If you 1v1, try to pop lichform in offense – fighting a Thief for example will take roughly 2 seconds and you loose no HP, unless he happen to be a tank.
If you engage in a group battle, basicly do it WvW style – necro bomb them. Well on the point, ds, 5,4 and you take at least half the hp from 5 peeps nearby. If they are already engaged in 3v3 or similar battles, you’ve probably won the point.
A power necro is a great wingman to have.
What I would recommend however is trying full tank MM or similar build. Why? Because in about 7 out of 10 matches, you’re going to miss someone that can hold a point. Seriously, there are soooo many kittenty dps builds. Only a very good enemy team can counter it (or alternativly, a very poor friendly team). Taking the central point and holding it wins the round in most cases. A Necro is well suited for doing 1v2 and 1v3 a short period of time.
Keep in mind that PvP is not about PvP. Its about standing on a point longer than the enemy is standing on the point.
time spent in pvp =/= pvp prowess
And on top of that, time spent pewpewing from a ledge does not win a round. Power rangers can do good damage, but against people actually holding points, they will still take a while. 100 points lost while pewpeing instead of trying to contest the point, GG. As a wingman, they are as strong as anyone else. Their range matter little.
I really do not believe that stab changes have brought more variety to the classes who were needed in the old meta. Probably it just increased the number of necros and eles.
I actually think it will bring a bit more variety once people realize the massive advantage that range has. Not range classes, but actual range. As in 1500 range pewpew Rangers and nade Engineers.
GWEN is still in effect in raids, but if you look at combat behaviour now its more about melee cover for the necros and eles that end up at a 1200 range stalemate, tickling the frontline, until someone pushes. In open field fights, having a secondary backline which can put constant pressure deeper into enemy lines will force them to action. Which either make them run away or bring them into range of the primary backline. I suppose you could consider it ironic that the Guardians role might move from being a frontline soldier to… uh… a guardian.
Of course the enviroment and clever tactics can be used to negate alot of this, but it could do that before too.
But I dont know, its still early.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
ESO is so darn uninspired it made me upset! I’ve logged 25 hours in the game, around 13 of those are install hours o_O
At 12 hours that’s still more than most $60 games -_-
Look, ESO is real simple: If you just want a game to lazily play for a while, its worth it. With 3 factions you got plenty of time to spend. Its nowhere near Skyrim, but questwise its actually very good for an MMO. I’m not sure I would advice it at full $60 pricetag now though. Its been selling here for less than $20 in stores, which its definetly worth.
A game that you want to get heavily invested in and expect years of gaming out of? Uh… questionable. Its decent but not that good. They botched their WvW from the start (even ignoring vampires), which is the entire endgame. The ingame guild and community support was just plain abyssmal. The endgame PvE sucked. Combat is nowhere near as smooth as GW2. I doubt its much of a difference now, but I havent played since its f2p.
Trebs and catas dont bounce off stuff last time I checked. Although I must admit, it would be hilarious if a friendly defensive cata shooting at a door have its shot hit the door, bounce back and kill the cata and any player near.
Disallow golems?
But… some of the most fun times in WvW was when Anet broke siege placement and you couldnt make arrowcarts, rams, trebs, ballistas catas… but you could make golems. Only golems. Instead of blobs running from keep to keep at full flank speed, you had to run a siege train and protect it. With far costlier siege, loosing them was bad.
This is pretty complex and would require a complete overhaul
No, its really not, because they are already using something similar in both EoTM and PvE. If we number WvW maps from 0 to 3, it becomes easy.
For example, where percentage is total population:
When 0 has > 75%, 1 opens up.
When 1 has < 10% and 0 has < 50%, everyone from 1 is moved over to 0 and 1 closes.
When 1 has > 75%, 2 opens up.
When 2 has < 10% and 1 has < 50% or if 1 is closed, check 0, everyone from 2 is moved to 1 or 0 and 2 closes.
Etc
The math increases sligthly at higher numbers as you need the check whether the border before or further down the line is used to determine where to move people upon closing.
Its just an overflow system for WvW. Borders would close one by one as population decrease during the night. Border hopping to cap everything is no longer possible. If a server can maintain > 10% population on all borders while still holding EB in the night, well then kudos for them – scoring would be exactly like now.
Well, all they really need is to tune up the borderlands. Then we have 3 unique borders – old border, eotm border (just make another version) and hot border. Then go over EB at the end.
I hope thats what it means. It would give us the complete set of 4 unique maps for very little of their effort.
Funny that you didnt mention WvW. Because it wouldnt really work.
Typical result would be as follows.
Poll: “Are you satisfied with arrowcarts”?
1% say yes.
4% say dont care.
95% say no.
1 month later: “Great news guys, we have increased arrowcart damage by 100% and added chill on skill 1 just like you all wanted!”.
Yeah out of all the builds, power necro, condi necro, mm necro, terrormancer, etc, the thread necro is by far the strongest.
But hey, as long as they can destroy your average pug in SoloQ, despite the fact that any good player on any class can achieve the same, means they would never have to get some attention right?
By that logic they must be as good as any other class, otherwise said average pug would destroy the unviable Necro, no?
If you want a profession for running around trolling the enemy, then I would say go for GS+Sw/Wh Warrior and enjoy…
Yeah they are pretty good trollers… Even if they get top score, they wont be the one holding a point and winning the round. In fact, they’re more likely to make you loose it because a mobility Warrior drops like a stone when he’s actually trying to accomplish something other than running really fast.
Plains of Ashford is the original open world PvP meta event zone, when The Shatterer flew over it and corrupted players making them to fight “normal” players, while Rytlock and Eir walked around the zone insta-killing anything that came close to them, lol. All to epic ingame music.
I miss that
Maybe in the top 1% of the PvP and hardcore competitions the Necro is useless, in the other 99% it work decently enough.
You even admit we’re useless in hardcore pvp. Necro is already next to hopeless in the dungeon/PvE ascpects of the game, then we’re supposed to be okay with just “decent” at non-hardcore PvP? While Guardians, thieves, elementalists, engineers, warriors are completely amazing in both.
Of course I admit it. Because its simple math. If A, B, C, D and E are 5% better than F, G and H while you only have 5 slots to fill… You’re going to choose from A-E to fill the ranks. Same reason why GWEN has ruled WvW. AoE effects are party priority and limited to 5 so that dictate party composition. Dungeons – same thing. Everything in GW2 is controlled by party size and AoE limit.
Someone has to be okay with it. With the Revenant coming, one of the “good” classes might even be pushed out. Because its going to end up either in the meta or in the trash, isnt it? If its the former, people will come here once again and go “please just remove the elementalist from the game” or wharever class has the fortune to be the chosen one.
At some point you have to accept it. Necro could use a boost in dungeons and I hope the greatsword change that, but for PvP… its still decent.
Look at the bright side, its not as annoying as a voice bug that the Operation Flashpoint devs managed to pull off (Arma devs). What Anet has done is nothing, pffff.
Your allies yelled “OH NO…. X… IS DOWN” when team members got killed (1, 2, 3, etc instead of X). It was supposed to happen once. But after one patch they started repeating it. Over. And over. And over. When someone else died? That repeated too. Eventually, your chat menu looked like this:
“OH NO… 2… IS DOWN!”
“OH NO… 4… IS DOWN!”
“OH NO… 2… IS DOWN!”
“OH NO… 4… IS DOWN!”
“OH NO… 5… IS DOWN!”
“OH NO… 2… IS DOWN!”
“OH NO… 4… IS DOWN!”
“OH NO… 5… IS DOWN!”
…
Every. Godkitten . Second.

Impossible. The coverage issues would be unbearable, especially since (almost) every one will be willing to play on the new BL.
Sadly I know many who want to avoid the new map as if its the plague.
I think that’d be minority in fact.
WvW is getting stall and old and people will try new ones.
I can imagine t1 server having 500 ques on each map…Since you are stating facts could you please provide links to the data?
I said I know many, not that those I know made up a majority or minority.Though I am interested in seeing factual data on how the WvW based population of GW2 views the new map. ^.^
I really don’t need statistic to prove this… It’s quite obvious since there’s nothing new for WvW in 3 years. It’s natural people want to try new stuffs.
You don’t have to believe me, but I’m still speculating at least 500 ques on each map..
Oh there is tons of new stuff for wvw. Its just rarely been things we asked for.
I doubt there will be 500 man queues.
Well if my human female necro tell me “I’d like to spend more time on my back please” I… well… cant say no to that.
Lore during the loading screen would be cool, but I don’t think you can update the lore every time you load up the screen. Like if you load up The Grove there is lore about the pale tree. Then the next time you load up The Grove the lore is about the first born. That would be nice, not reading the same lore over and over again.
Eh what? Text would not be baked into the image, obviously it would be picked from a string list. Its easy to have a loading screen in the grove with 10+ different grove lore texts being randomly chosen.
Unfortunetly, the post above this make more sense than lore.
Without touching any settings except height that was ticked on and off (was curious)… it feel exactly the same as before. I cant tell any difference and I am usually quite sensetive to poor camera/unsynched movement in games. I have to see if I have any old character screenshots that I can replicate.
He wasn’t trying to win? Seriously? It’s called “Escaping”. You know, when you are in trouble you get out to reset………. Also, Thieves don’t just stand in your marks and wells…You make it sound simple. Any good thief will disengage you and then come back in. MM is one of the easiest Necro’s to kill. Couple AOE and the pets are gone. Then he is useless.
But it is that simple. A bunker MM will have what, 2.3K toughness and around 40-50K hp effectivly? Maybe you cant kill your foe when all pets are gone but you can still hold a point for 30-60s. More if the enemy is mediocre. If another player come to assist (which they should, especially if you are on center point) your enemy will die. It doesnt matter if he can reset. That is irrelevant.
Its GW2 PvP, time on cap is all that matter. You do not build to flee and fight another day, you build to stand your ground and die on point.
As a sidenote, I had a Warrior that tried the kill minions tactic on me in a round yesterday, lol. Lured them out of the clocktower and killed them. I just stood on point, slighly smirking, stacking points. When he finally came up, he didnt last very long anyway, haha. Same match that me and an Engineer made a double combo of Guardians ragequit because they couldnt kill us, which was hilarious.
Maybe in the top 1% of the PvP and hardcore competitions the Necro is useless, in the other 99% it work decently enough.
Does anyone else have the same issue on necromancer?
Not really -_-
Granted, Thieves are dangerous foes in any situation, but I have always found it easy to counter them as a Necro. Drop staff marks, drop damage well, Thief is lucky if he’s still alive. If he is, ds and AoE bomb his kitten (again). The more power specced you are, the easier it becomes to quickly counter them. Tbh I still prefer bunker MM though. As long as you have the staff, even that mediocre damage is enough. Plus I am never hunted. I am right there on the central cap, holding it. The enemy always come, until they give up, lol. What where you even doing worming and spectral walking all over the place? Doesnt sound like you where even trying to win the round.
Now its just alot easier, and more balanced, because anyone can do it.
And its still just as stupid.
The firing and targeting mechanics of arrowcarts should have been fixed years ago but Anet just kept buffing them to insane levels (remember when they barely hurt you? Yeah. That used to be a thing).
No one expect them to fix that now. Easier to cry revert camera. Unlikely that they will fix that one too :/
The “alpine borderlands” (wait who ever called them that?!?) has needed a tune up since EoTM.
I hope they remove the crappy bloodlust and reinstate the orbs you where supposed to escort from north camp to bay (cant remember if it was hills too). The concept of their mechanic – a “world event” in WvW – was much more fun, well except Anet totally kittened it up and failed to fix it, so they just removed all traces of it after a year or so of promises to reimplement it.
I havent changed my camera and the loading screens are shifted up… But they dont seem “bugged” as the loading circle is in proper place and the top end properly (ie fade texture).
Having a little text beneath it seems very logical. As long as its not something stupid like “Press the jump button to jump, jumping lets you reach place you otherwise couldnt without jumping!”
As much as you guys want to lol, can you tell me a reliable method of how an outnumbered server can defend against a blob in uneven matchups without using siege? It might be OP, but in that case, the opponent also has few counters to it which they can take advantage of.
Only if you can tell us a reliable method for how an outnumbered server can attack a defended keep in uneven matchups without using siege.
Argue about how arrowcarts can help outnumbered servers all you want, but the servers that are outnumbering them will always have many, many more. They are not static keep defenses like cannons, they can be built anywhere. Guess which server got tons of supplies to spend? Yeah. Its not the outnumbered one.
Arrowcarts balance nothing. They didnt do it when Anet buffed their damage by 100%+ when the WvW community wanted maybe 20% and they arent doing it now either.
I think they have to change the way ACs work. Obstacles should stop arrows. It is ridiculous that you can place ACs directly in front of a wall target the wall and hit targets behind the wall. ACs should work like other siege weapons launching projectiles: obstacles stop the projectiles.
It’s called a trajectory.
It all depends on what trajectories anet allows. If you point an arrow straight up, then it will come straight back down.
So it is possible to hit something behind a wall even if the cart is on the other side. Just like a treb can be fired OVER a wall, so can arrows. Why people think a wall should block an projectile is beyond me.See pic
You seem to assume the ac is an arrowcart?
Its not.
Its a device that make AoE damage instantly happen at the target location by conjuring magical missiles from above with 100% accuracy all the time in 100% of the area. This is impossible with a trajectory, as that would be inherently inaccurate, especially just aiming “over there”.
So a wall can surely block it. With magic anything is possible. No need to show off fancypants physics here because the ac have none.
You forgot the crippling lag in wvw and desync issues (invisible players, dying from nothing).
Also, the new camera mode is allowed in wvw. Fairly sure thats a bug.
Yeah the camera change in wvw is just kittened indeed… the stab change is different, we need time to adjust and adapt but the camera… its just plain cheating.
IMO they should either remove the change alltogheter in WvW (ie its possible to change in PvE, but in WvW it goes back to default and grey out settings) OR finally fix so that all siege work the same – slow rotate via skills, skill to charge shot, physical shot arcs to target area. And make all player skills LoS.
Whoever at Anet that thought this was a good idea in WvW… well you just proved every single complaint about Anet not caring about WvW true.
GG Anet.
GG.
In PvP gotta be utterly kittened to waste 3xCC to remove stability from someone.
Stability change was mostly thrown due to WvW and blob behavior.Nothing changed in PvP and in small team roaming in WvW.
New Stability will either be kited off or simply removed by Boon removing abilities. In fact, Elite skills which grant long stability, like Plague, Lich form or Rampage as One, simply got buffed.
Now you’re getting 3 stacks of stability every 3 seconds.
Which means, if you remove it, it’ll stack up 3 sec later, while before, you could remove it and Elite major ability went down the toilet. So Stability changes in fact doesn’t impact pvp.
True.
Lets face it, new stab is minimal change for small groups. 1v1, almost same but with buffed elites. Best case scenario ignoring elites, some classes got skills that remove more than one stack in a short timespan, but generally stab doesnt last long anyway.
In WvW however… stab change only further strenghten blobbing and bringing more people to battle than the enemy while randomly throwing out cc.
They arent glass cannons. If you get enough power rangers, they can combine into megazord, which is OP as all kitten.
Well just reset it to default then. Dont change height or fov or anything. That’s how it was before.
Yep its horrible now.
The patch pretty much broke WvW lol. Wouldnt surprise me the slightest if the new stability make the already existing lag from the last 2 patches worse.
We also encountered weird issues with complete desync – people just dying from nothing, people only seeing their own party of 5 among 30+ friendlies.
Maybe Anet just wanted people to give ESO a try, I dont know.
And that’s ignoring the new “features” for the camera which wreck havoc in WvW. People are literally seeing over walls and across half the maps.
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Everything is broken lol
And it only cost us the guild chat!
I mean who ever used that?
1. Make a bunker because 90% of the time your team will lack a good one.
2. Take and hold the center point.
3. ????
4. Profit!
(Applies to all PvP maps)
Another map only encourage the coverage wars, which is what many consider to be the biggest issue in wvw. It would be murder for already weak servers.
Meh, I still cause my team to win maybe 8 out of 10 times when going into a PvP match as a bunker MM. As long as people cant hold points worth a kitten I’ll enjoy my necro.
And in the closing video, 34 minutes in to the whole thing, it looks like a … cow? … gets trebucheted at a wall.
Yes? The trebuchets have been able to shoot special cows picked for their aerodynamical properties for a long time now. One of the few good things the Charr has done.
Its not a matter of not being good. The mesmer is a good class and its a very strong duelist. Its a matter of being redundant. Good at some things, bad at others, but no matter how you twist and turn there’s always a better choice at the extreme ends. Out of the leftover PvP classes, its also the worst synched with the game mode. The mesmer is heavily reliant on mobility to even do damage. Doesnt work well when you are supposed to stand on a point.
Out of all the great things in GW2, its WvW that constantly suck me into the game. Well, no monthly fee certainly also help.
Its not really the NPCs on their own that’s the problem, its the fact that they dont scale with the opposition.
Still think NPCs should have an outmanned buff in various level of strenghts if there is more enemies than friendlies in the event area. Imagine if you are 30 capping a keep defended by 0 enemy players and the normal NPCs have the strength of a buffed lord. This wouldnt really affect roaming at all but it would stop the complete faceroll of NPCs dying in 0.2 seconds to the zerg.
Yeah I’d settle for destroying the gear and getting a spike and rune back. I have so much wvw crap in my bank that I really dont want to throw away because of runes/sigils, but I cant do anything with it. The extractor it useless, it need to cost around 8g for it to be worth it, not 25 or whatever it is.
Raiding in Pack, roaming in Travelers, PvPing with Dolyak lol.
I played both GW1 and GW2 – I prefer the Holy Trinity since it lead to:
1. Better cooperative play
Define “better”.
A player demanding a heal from another player to survive or a player flipping a switch so that the group may survive… one style forces players to rely on other players – which is cooperation, sure. The other style forces players to rely on, well other players. Same thing. The only thing different is that the latter doesnt put artificial limitations on your playstyle (a dpser cant heal! A tank cant dps! A healer cant dps! Etc).
The fact that many GW2 mobs have mediocre mechanics that is overshadowed by heavy zerker builds is another thing. For example the Shatterer fight is ridiculous and require zero thought, while Tequatl actually require alot of… you guessed it… cooperation. Without the trinity. Just players relying on other players to do what they are supposed to do.
Its been in the game since release. Its called gigantic yellow swords as soon as the zerg touch anything.
I thought stability would just stack and function like a boon otherwise (ie last as long as now, but can be removed by CC in addition to boon removal, like might)
If they make it pulsing, ie refresh, its a huuuuuge buff to skills with long stability and an equally huge nerf to boon removal. Sounds like GWEN will be replaced by GGEG (still need those eles for walls).
In PvE, Thief. If you get touched, you’re doing it wrong. A Warrior have to use its entire kitten nal to CC, a Thief only need one weapon skill.
In PvP, I’d say Warrior.
WE ARE NOTNOTNOT talking about PVP
This thread is all about the PvP.
