Match manipulation is a no-no.
I’d really like to know what defines match manipulation in a WvW setting.
When the “spy” is doing something that negativly affect the outcome of the matchup (large or small scale doesnt matter)?
The problem here is that Anet cannot stop people having multiple accounts. And its going to be difficult to prove matchup manipulation or simply playing on another account. I mean, technically a commander on server A which is fighting server B and C could decide that tuesday, he’s commanding on server B because he has an alt account there. Is that match manipulation? I dont think so. But at the same time you could argue that him not being on server A will make it loose, thus he is manipulating the matchup. I dont think that is Anets intention with this though.
Its when you directly do something with the intent to disrupt the server you are on, such as spamming rams everywhere to drain supply so that the enemy server can cap it easy, that’s their target for this type of ToS breach.
But that’s just a guess.
let’s share times when something just, hilariously bad occurred. anything. RNG ruining our day, an especially cruel glitch, an epic moment that went 180. w/e.
I.E.
I once salvaged 9 lvl 80 rares with Mystic kits, and only got 2 ecto.
during a fractal on my ele i once Staff Fire 4’d myself right off the scaffolding on Colossus (made for an epic firey rainbow, and alot of laughs from the others)
helping an underlevel friend map complete with my thief, and we had to sneak passed this big champion in Orr, and i just casually walked passed it like “it’s no problem, he can’t see through Stealth. go in, grab ur thing, run”. it than immediately turned and oneshot me, still fully stealthed.
You think that is a critical failure?
In GW2, that’s just bad luck.
Try playing Archeage and upgrade an weapon worth the eqvivalent of a legendary, only to have it downgrade to a rare instead.
As soon as everyone go “I’m ready”, the match begins.
Does that happen in every game? No.
Does it happen in every 5th game? No.
Does it happen in every 10th game? kitten no.
In this case its the players that are being kittened and not using the system as it was intended. Hence, you get a kittenload of dead time.
Well, I believe that anyone who plays PvP is part of the PvP community. I don’t think you can rule out people who also play PvE.
However, it is fair to say that in your experience, people who also play PvE tend to be more toxic.
Dont you know?
You’re not allowed to have any acheivement points if you are a PvPer.
Just like you’re not allowed to earn any gold if you’re a WvWer.
Or do PvP and WvW if you’re a PvEr. Nope, not allowed. Did you go into WvW just for world exploration? Noob PvE wannabe!
I wish I could hide my skirt, but I’m afraid to find another skirt beneath it.
The only reason why high tier servers are in the top is because they got 24/7 coverage on the borderlands so they can keep the PPT high and they got the numbers to beat you in a 2:1 in a fight.
Which is exactly why your 7K hours and 2400 ranks are irrelevant.
If your server has 100 of you that are daytime players and the enemy servers have 10,000 rank 50-200 24/7 coverage players… they will probably win.
So judging WvW population on player stats is pointless.
I do not see how being hit offers any advantage for Necromancer. Even gaining Life Force on Spectral skills is a poor trade for losing health. I just chalked the comment up to them not understanding how Necro worked.
Have you actually played a proper DS bunker in sPvP/duels? It easily beat both well and minion bunker just because of LF regen.
Why would they need to go down to account levels?
We already have server rankings and queues. Do an average calculation of that and you get how populated a server is while ignoring PvE. If a server has 0/border on average on reset night, its a low server. 25/border on average, medium. 50/border on average, full. Simple. Note that this would count all borders of course. Having a 200 man queue on EB and 0 on the rest would still hit a high status.
When you combine that with week to week statistics of each server, you can see trends and how the population change, which gives Anet a method of rating server population.
Someone clearly didnt think this through…
OS as a megaserver would probably kill GvG or at the very least make it so complicated people would just GvG in normal WvW instead, filling those maps.
How do you know that two guilds from different servers are going to end up in the same instance? You have no way of knowing. Just look at EoTM now. Can you say to a guild in WvW “hey meet us in EoTM and we do GvG!”. Uh… no. You’d have to do extremely fancy instance hopping including joining party with the enemy guild. So far OS has been the path of least resistance – pretty much zero chance for queues and everyone end up in the same instance. Its easy to make a server schedule so guilds know when not to go there. Please dont ruin that.
I can only agree to OS being made a megaserver if they remove the arena from it and keep it puzzle only. This would of course require a new special WvW map – a gigantic huge colosseum with really nothing else in it, where servers can go for GvGs.
From what I have seen of the descriptions, having at least 2 well Mesmers will be new meta in WvW raiding, little doubt about it. I suspect commanders will demand them to have 2 wells and veil as skills (similar to a Necro). If they have the same range as Necros, they will be far weaker to counterbombing (no personal skills, no DS) compared to current Mesmers which is veil and whatever skills.
Regarding people saying the population would be imbalanced like EotM; I don’t think it would if Anet did it right.
EotM doesn’t work for balance because they open up too many maps. Green just dominates on more than one. That’s not how you’d do it in WvW proper.
The way it would have to be done is:
- A single alliance having people in queue would not be enough to open a new map. They would just have to wait in queue – or with the way the OP’s idea works, switch to a toon of another alliance and play on that.
- The last map to open would not contribute to the score. No rewards would be gained. No Karma, Gold, WxP, XP, etc. This is to prevent K-training. All this would apply unless the population is in relative balance or unless its the only open map.
- This would ensure even battles on all but the last map. And the last map could be a fight haven, dueling ground, etc.
An example with made up numbers:
- Priory: 950 players
Order: 1000 players
Vigil: 825 players
- Assuming 100 player cap on each map that would mean there are 8 open maps that are being scored.
- The last (9th) map would have:
100 Order
100 Priory
25 Vigil
- The remaining 100 Order and 50 Priory players are in a queue.
- Presuming Anet could display some sort of information about the state of the queue and population of the last map, the Order and Priory players in queue could switch to toons that play for Vigil and 75 of them would be able to get into the 9th map. This map would now start contributing to the score and give rewards.
- At that point a 10th map would open and the people still in queue could get into that.
A complete fantasy I know but I think it would be fun.
All that text and still you doom it to failure in the very first sentence.
EoTM would have been awesome too if Anet had done it right.
There are also better single focus DPS professions but they don’t have the 1500 easymode distance the ranger provides. A decent group can retal/reflect rangers to near death as it is. Anyone claiming they are killing anyone with just rapid fire are fighting bad/uplevel players.
A decent Ranger wouldnt exactly shoot into a decent group that has reflection up.
Ranger is by far the best class for long range sniping (ie the ~1800 range they really got due to arrows still hitting targets beyond out of range) when running next to a zerg. They arent only just good at it – they are the only threat at that range. If they go balls deep into a zerg its their own fault.
Of course, the amount of decent Rangers on a server can be counted on one hand so the chances you are one of them or meet one of them is next to nil.
Oh there are lots of reasons why that idea wouldnt work.
In addition to what choovanski said, it would also remove all guild gameplay from WvW, bring serious random imbalances between factions when players move around at will, remove the tier system, make WvW tournaments impossible, lock out a large amount of players from joining, create a karma train the likes of which we’ve never seen before as players jumps between factions to retake the same keep they just took, make every single player a potential traitor and generate a ton of mistrust against each other.
This suggestion is on par with alliance battles replacing WvW as a “solution” to WvW issues.
Make that 1 ingame faction per server (no server selection in the menus, new ingame faction halls where you can change them instead) and you are off to a good start.
In order to balance these factions ourselves we need full transparency though (ie what guilds, how many players, queue statistics, etc) which aint ever going to happen. Anet certainly aint going to balance them.
Played about 6 rounds this evening on my bunker Necro (won 5 of them) and despite holding against more 1v2 and 1v3 than I can count before support came, it was only a duel that ended up with someone neutralizing the point.
A silly Elementalist running in as a tornado.
But yeah it sucks and no Ele should ever use it on point in sPvP. Dont even try it. Really, dont.
The start of the round isnt even the problem. As +1 you just have to be carefull when adding and as bunker you will easily generate new life force when they come to you.
The problem is when its going bad or when you have to defend home against overwhelming enemies. Having no LF at respawn kitten the Necro over then, its kicking the guy that’s already down.
Then HoT would have to come out next christmas or something.
Summer vacation starts is like a month away and doesnt normalize until august or so. Having a WvW season in the middle of summer? Yeah, that’d be fun lol. Notice that all seasons have been spring/fall (with first being very late fall I think), ie its too late for a spring season now. If you think a season in the middle of the summer would bring “balance” you will probably be disappointed.
I play female because I love skirts.
No really, I must love skirts.
Anet knows it.
We all know it.
We love skirts.
Pants suck.
Who need them anyway?
There are Vistas at the end of some JPs. So going for a map clear is problematic for some.
Why is that “problematic”?
It takes 2 hours to clear the map instead of 1 hour?
Oh the horrors of spending time to explore the whole kitten game.
I’ve thought of onto jumping onto TS, the problem though is I’m a pretty young gamer. I want to try my best to stay away from TS because my high voice and the fact people won’t take me seriously. Ill probably try at some point, and thanks for the feedback!
Problem is, that makes it so that you wont gather much people. With TS its often bad enough, but without TS and you loose one battle poof zerg is gone. People are kind of petty that way. GW2 is so mature now that players often only follow known commanders or not play at all. Yesterday on reset we a queue of 130 on EB… and no queue on the borders. Guess what type of commander was on EB and how many where on the borders?
If you really want to pug zerg, I advice daytime EB zerging and border hopping when no one else that lead is on. In primetime, a border with few guilds will probably work, but you’re probably looking at getting 20-30 people unless its a true blob server (half of which will leave as soon as you retreat). EB on primetime without the commander on TS is going to be… painful. Taking over a zerg when a familiar commander leaves is another option, but again its not so certain that will last long. If you are good, then they will follow at least for a while.
Well, all this apply on a high tier server at least. If its low tier, I suppose it doesnt matter much.
Anet will only invite those that have achieved Yakslapper.
Good luck.
Stats: 6’4 and 195 lbs
I’m sorry, you are too tall for beta testing.
Also I am fairly sure Anet wont consider random application threads on the forum. At best, maybe an official Anet dev thread you can post in.
No and because Anet says so.
If you want to “rename” your guild, create a new one and invite everyone from the old. If its a large guild it wont take that long to do all the upgrades.
Considering the physical attributes of every single person in the world and the fact they can jump about 2 meters every other second indefinetly without breaking a sweat and make a 10m drops without breaking any bones (after jumping off the cliffside of course, cant forget to do that), its safe to assume that the gravity on Tyria is far less than that of Earth.
Hence, massive and huge creatures can fly (or jump and glide really far).
Well siphon only really work when the targets come to you (ie sPvP bunkering or PvE). Minion master siphoning is similar (although I must say I am guilty of somwhat liking that when roaming, lol).
The problem with all that maxed out siphoning theorycrafting is that the Necro has DS. As I said above, I have no doubt that the OPs build is “working” primarily because it has the vitality to back up all that healing and the precision to proc things. You dont need to go into DS that much, you want to regen outside it.
If you truly want a flexible dueler which have a chance at dealing with hard targets (such as roaming signet warriors) you need to build for something that regen alot faster than health and doesnt suffer the critical flaws of siphoning. Which would be life force. That the Necro incidently has tons of :p
Icon change for the commander was suggested long before the color change was even implemented. Most of the time people suggested color change, icon change went along with it. We are lucky to even get colors, I have no hope for icons.
Though I have never seen your particular type of icons represented, those are actually very good and logical. They make instant sense. Well except the scout one that can be considered a fish :p
WvW isnt meant to have balanced classes, its meant to have balanced players.
Died in 1v1 because the enemy was more skilled?
Do 2v1 and win.
That’s how you balance it yourself. Most people complaining have this strange notion that if they died in a duel, either their class suck or the enemy is an OP class. Probably the same people that’s probably completely stuck in the extremes mindset instead of actually bringing flexible and balanced builds that can do decently vs any build instead of great vs some and incredibly weak vs others.
Dont you know? The gods are all dead.
Desert borderlands? That would be great!
Guardian now a Dragonhunter? Whats next? Warrior a Paladin?
warrior spec is gonna be called plant exterminator
Naw it will likely be “Gardener.”
Though I think “Weed Whacker” would be better.
Of course not.
Warrior will probably have Rouge as specialization, which can stealth and use shortbow/dagger. Elementalist will probably be the Paladin, wearing heavy armor with greatsword/shield to make up for its obvious shortcomings.
not as now go 100player blob water gate and get in, instead they will split up and 30player attack SW gate 30player attack SE gate, 20player at NE and NW gate to stop reinforcement.
The problem with that way of thinking is that you start forcing people to play the way you think they are meant to play. That is bad practice and will only make players angry.
Remember what happened when Anet thought GvG was ruining their gameplay mode, lol.
I think if you can solo a tower in a matchup your tier should be considered dead haha.
I havent soloed keeps (its boring), but I have duoed them vs SFR.
#EUT1isdead #RIPWvW
I dont see any problems for shutting down the last 3 or 6 servers an automatically shuffling them up. Server 27 join with server 22, 26 with 23, 25 with 24.
But Anet obviously do, or it would have happened at least a year ago.
Why do you seem so fixed on the idea that any system that doesn’t require servers would become EotM?? I am not a game developer so I can’t present you with a solid way how it could be different than EotM (I am not a fan of the constant karmatrains and even deliberate avoidance of PvP that happens in there), but I think we should at least give an idea like this a chance at making things better.
You dont have to be a game developer to present a solid way of doing WvW in EoTM better than how EoTM is now. But it still wouldnt be the WvW that we know and love. You can argue away how you would solve karmatrains but the core flaws of server-less gameplay would still be there. Its very evident in EoTM. Yes, even if you imagine it with PPT to perfection.
You say that the server based system “work poorly”. Does it? Does it really? Then how come GW2 WvW is by far the best in the genre? Is there any competition to GW2 in the WvW area? ESO tried and failed horribly, because it was nowhere as fun and intense. And also guess what ESO did? Yep, alliance vs alliance. Server-less gameplay.
You may not be looking for another EoTM, but if you want the advantages of EoTM you also get the flaws of EoTM. Flaws that would ruin WvW and the community servers have created around it. Guilds wouldnt be able to raid (especially not with the AB original suggestion and very, very limited player counts, in EoTM is hell to bring all into one instance), guilds wouldnt be able to play together with other guilds they know, pugs wouldnt be able to communicate – a hardcore and dedicated server community can organize a server TS, but no one can organize an alliance (ie 6+ server eqvivalent) TS, these are people that do it for fun mind you, there would be no feeling of a perpetual (well, a weeks) battle and it would cease to function as an true MMO when you start turning the only unique – and most definetly best – part of GW2 into a hot-join large scale PvP match that’s over in an hour or something.
WvW isnt perfect but its definetly better than that.
I’m not against turning the servers into something more immersive and ingame (like larger Anet created “guilds” players choose instead of a “server”) but that’s not what the OP is going on about. It is about replacing WvW with this AB, as the topic state. And all that is being argued is EoTM, sPvP style. Not an improvement to WvW.
So its still the worst idea ever.
If people want what OP is describing, by all means suggest a freakin 20vs20vs20 sPvP map and duke it out on a larger scale with a more interesting gameplay mode than standing on a point. Hell it’d be more balanced by default since it would suffer sPvP rules, unlike WvW that is under PvE rules. The sPvP forum is somewhere above this one, not too hard to find.
TL;DR
GW2 without EoTM, meh no one cares.
GW2 without WvW, most boring PvE grind ever.

Wow this is promising!
When we set out on the search for the guardian’s elite specialization, we looked for areas in which the guardian lacked a solid role.
This must automaticly mean they done the same to all other proffessions. For example, the Necro will be king of PvE dungeons after HoT, right?
Hahaha jk they are probably just trolling us. Hunter Guardian, lol what a concept.
They might as well skip all the hassle and combine everything to one proffesion – The Necrarriogineerguardiefrangemesmentalist. Specialize as you want!
(edited by Dawdler.8521)
Use safe bags. Inventory never moves around in them or show up for selling.
Tbh I’d think its easier to wish for other utility skills, doubt Anet would ever allow your regular skills in DS as is. A new heal (regens normal hp and heal LF) and three group support skills granting AoE regen, stability or might (and of course all 3 would be blast finishers. Plague form elite could be special DS use only and be on a seperate cd from normal elites.
Ah, wishfull thinking. It would be more amazing than regular skills though :p
No. This is not even remotely close to the same thing.
Its exactly the same thing.
With no servers – meaning no communications and no community – your idea would:
1) Kill all guilds larger than a couple of people
2) Kill WvW completely
3) Be like a larger scale sPvP version of EoTM.
GG.
You’ve obviously never played AB before if you think it’s anywhere near the same.
First you’d have to queue up for it, not just jump in like eotm or wvw.
There would be a lower cap on players. Map would be smaller.
It would have an even amount of players. Randoms only joining to even out for deserters.
Not a bunch of pvd
There would be multiple maps based on progress each faction makes not the same thing every day.Wvw is garbage.
Obviously I have not, yet people keep describing it exactly like a smaller scale EoTM mixed with sPvP.
What am I supposed to think given that info?
That it would be even remotely capable of replacing WvW? Hahahahahaha… Thats funny.
I would think Zealot’s gear would work much better, as outlined by the ‘Bad Build’ video WoodenPotatoes did. He discusses that siphoning scales with both power and healing power and at least with Zealot’s you are not sacrificing a ton of damage unlike Magi’s or Cleric’s.
Depends on how you play. I am guessing that this magi life stealer worked primarily because the targets where soft (ie zerker or similar types). Meaning that the vitality of the armor soaked up the damage and allowed for killing before dying. A Necro with lots of vitality is strong no matter how you look at it due to a strong heal skill and DS so that you can maintain it. Now add lots of regen on top of that – probably 80% from other sources than traits, lol – and you get a decent sustain build vs roamers.
Kerep in mind that the Necro doesnt exactly evade attacks well or reset fights. Have to go all in. With zealots you’d be much weaker vs damage based roamers without being able to exploit that large HP pool. And we all know how most roamers build their characters. There’s no armor option I know of that offer vitality+precision+something actually usefull.

1. PvE and SPvP are both completely free of server, yet there is a lot of community and communication. PvE players who want friends to PvE with usually go to the big PvE cities and ask for a guild, SPvP players meet eachother in the Heart of the Mists. Neither PvE or SPvP are “dead” because they lack servers communities.
So you’re saying that it would create a community that’s exactly like in EoTM, where everyone communicate by text only and do their own thing?
2. There is no proof that WvW would have any problems by being detached from servers and instead based on something like “alliances”. What this would require is of course something like Heart of the Mists… a sort of common hub where people from different “servers” can find eachother and make guilds and alliances to fight with when they go into WvW.
EoTM doesnt have any problems? Did it improve WvW? Do any guilds play in EoTM? No? Yeah.
3. In my opinion this latter form of community would be a lot better than the current restricted one. This sort of community would not be restricted to whoever is on your server, but instead broadened to anyone at all who wishes to play with you. I have made friends in SPvP from different servers, and we couldn’t care less about being on this or that server.
Does EoTM have a better community than WvW? Does EoTM even have a community?
Even if Necro minion AI improve 100×... its still going to worse than Ranger pet AI.
For example, Elite can refer to the description for our ingame skill. Frequently in other games this might be called ‘Ultimate’ or ‘Final’. It doesn’t always refer to a skilled player.
I would argue that most of the time when you say to another player “You’re so elite!” you are actually saying “GG kittening kitten noob idiot kitten I hope you go kitten yourself and jump off a kittening tower in DR”.
No. This is not even remotely close to the same thing.
Its exactly the same thing.
With no servers – meaning no communications and no community – your idea would:
1) Kill all guilds larger than a couple of people
2) Kill WvW completely
3) Be like a larger scale sPvP version of EoTM.
GG.
Cause the camera change made it possible,i guess…
It was possible before the change, just a little trickier.
Natural selection. All horses clearly need 4 hooves to function, otherwise they are crippled. When the poor crippled centaurs are killed they only drop a couple of hooves at best. Sometimes only 1. Since centaurs and horses are similar, we can assume that the these degenerate hoof-less centaurs evolved from horses. But centaurs got hands to somewhat compensate for disabilities, whereas horses do not.
Meaning, horses died out because they had no hooves.

AvAvA is short for Alliance vs. Alliance vs. Alliance. So instead of Server vs. Server vs. Server, you’d have alliances not linked to the server you’re on, which makes it unimportant what server you’re on, or what server your guild mates are on.
You’re forgetting the point of this thread’s 10 suggestions: “simple things”. I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with this AvAvA-thing, but i’m saying it would basically change WvW complitely. So it’s not a “simple thing”. And it is not related to the original topic either.
Indeed. Its not simple. And in particular, I dont think its good.
The only reason we have good communities now is just because its still server vs server in WvW. Its manageable. A server often has a public TS. The server I am on has a huge TS with all guilds on it. We can gather on commanders and have fun together, we can easily join each others closed raids if there is a need.
If you where to make AvA, then it will become unmanageable. No one can maintain a TS for 6+ servers. No one will want to do that just for the “greater good”. Guilds will keep to themselves, pug commanders wont have TS.
Its going to ruin WvW and turn it into a quiet battlefield of headless chickens running after commanders that cant talk. If Anet would step up and make a huge alliance TS with 500+ guild channels, all the border channels etc and so on then fine, it could be doable. One huge official TS server per alliance.
But I think we all know that is completely unrealistic. Not going to happen. They wont even allow a competetive WvW forum where we could write stuff to each other, imagine them having a place we could talk? Lol!
A new map everyone will probably dislike, traits thats totally gonna mess up the balance and lag thats never going to be solved.
Oh and the same stale matchups.
Sorry.
OMG we finally got some pan… nvm.
