Well I dont agree with arenas. Deathmatch went obsolete many years ago. All they really need is to make Conquest better by varying the design instead having every map layed out so that its a game of tic-tac-toe and whoever mess up first loose. If I wanted competition I’d rather see them copy MOBA design than arena.

You know, most weapons arent even used due to meta. Why throw in more weapons? Your 1h handed hammer for guardian and warrior for example. They both already have the mace but when was the last time you saw one run around with that in WvW or something? Even some of the new HoT weapons probably wont see much use because others are so kitten meta and good.

I just realized something…

Did Arenanet just accidentally show us how they plan on solving borderland coverage issues?

Think about it. Borders being “at peace”. Oh so its 12:00 in the middle of the day and only EB has players on it? Well then 3 borders are at “peace” and doesnt provide any score income. In the afternoon, 1 border goes to “war” again as the population increases and in the evening all borders are at war.

2) When you are out of slots, buy more until you have 1 for each profession.

Done.

If you plan on playing this game for a while, play them all. They are all fun. Getting more slots is worth it. Some are more fun than others, but that’s where it becomes subjective. The simplest answer to your question is that Guardian and Warrior are the most balanced multipurpose professions while classes such as Mesmer and Elementalist have a high skill floor and isnt something you master in a week. Or a year for that matter. Elementalist in particular require you to be an octokitten to play to perfection. The others are somewhere in between.

I think around 2.3K toughness is base max, but add buffs and crap and you can reach over 3K toughness at times (yes I know what armor is and that is still just toughness numbers).

How it performs is subjective. you can pretty much walk through a zerg, but lack damage to make an impact. most run combo gear I think. Full knights lack the ferocity to take advantage of all that crit IMO.

if you look at the foodchain in this world, human is at the top because they have the highest IQ.

Yet the Charr retook Ascalon from the Humans, and Orr was sunk to avoid the same fate.

Both the Norn, Sylvari and Asura have all managed to carve out pieces of the world for themselves, but the Human race has become more and more confined.

I’m not buying your claim. If humans are so clever, a load of feral cats and their false gods should not have been able to breach the wall all those years ago, no?

Also dont forget the main flaw of the Human IQ – it exponentially drops the more people there are in one place. A few Norns will still have the advantage of a Human army. Yes, even when they are drunk as all kitten.

Its quite simple really. Unlike most f2p games – and DLC heavy b2p games – there is nothing really scummy and greedy about GW2 and its gameplay mechanics. Sure there is a cashshop but its not p2w. Pay to be fabulous and pay for convieniance is what its about. But even then the cashshop is playing nice because you can buy gems for gold. With a fixed level cap, you can come back after a year and get into the game in hours.

All in all, this leads to a remarkably… relaxed… community. Worst cases are the class balance complaints, but if you look at their individual forums its always their class thats bad and everyone else is OP. So its not so bad.

GW2 has always felt like a unique game in this regards. During christmas I took a break for Archeage and that was just uuuuuuuuugh… People say that the WvW community is poisonous due to lack of attention but they are still a pack of cute cuddly kittens in comparison.

That PSU… ugh… I can see by the fact I cant find any English text about it and that it has a blue fan and fancy box art that its not going to be all that good. Also it seems to be specced for two weak 12v lines – most PSUs went away from that years ago and did one very strong 12v line because 2 weak ones wasnt enough for modern graphics cards.

It’s unclear where Airships come from.

No it’s not. They are made by the pact through a combination of Asura, Charr and Human technology (as stated by Trahearne in one of the personal story steps). The Aetherblade airships, at least the first batch, were stolen from the pact (and then, presumably, reverse engineered).

According to lore, the first airships where made by the Charr, period.
So its very clear where they came from.

Sure the Pact later made more and improved them (then Aetherblades stole some), but the point was that they arent Human specific technology that would be used against the Norn. If we assume that, then we assume that the Pact would join the battle. Which would be a mess.

Dawdler.8521

If the humans attack there’s a lot of speculation that could be had – what if they use asura gates?
What if they use airships. The norn don’t have those.

Humans doesnt have any more of that than Norn does. The airships came from the Charr with armament obviously Asuran. It wasnt until the Pact brought everyone together that they made it into a usable weapon. Charr also made the tanks and helicopters. At best, Humans got their regular ships. Which, if they are all as well designed as the one that we have seen leaving Claw Island for 3 years now, would tip over and sink if a Norn sneezed on it.

Something I just thought of as well when recalling what I said about allies… Norns would probably have alot easier time getting local allies such as the Sons of Svanir. Sure they are enemies, but they are still Norn and they all know it. In contrast, Humans would probably have alot more problems getting the help from bandits and Centaurs. Centaurs in particular would probably ally themselves with the Norn against Humans… Which pretty much means they are boned.

Lol that is not content! Thats fluff.

Archeage has housing and farming (very good open world housing, no instanced crap), it has excellent mounts (even hilarious cars), capturable pets and it also has ships (with brilliant physics) and land/sea based trade on top of all that.

But guess what? It kept me interested 3 months as opposed to 3 years in GW2. Because content doesnt make in any less shallow. There was nothing fun to do after a while. GW2 with its WvW, sPvP and PvE is a good mix that is far deeper in terms of gameplay.

Actually the first reply to this thread should have been enough. Norn do NOT have armies. That drove a certain dwarf to desperation when he tried to understand how it works.

But the point is that they wont need an army. These people are the kind that can pull a freaking tooth out of an Elder dragon. Keep in mind the Norn allies as well, the spirits of the wild. Not to mention their ability to become animals. I would be impressed if a human army even survived a single night in Norn lands if the Norn didnt want them there…

Dawdler.8521

In theory, diminishing returns can work so that if you keep killing mob after mob after mob after mob, its goes to kitten but when you revive someone in between you break the kill streak by doing something else, hence the effect of DR is reduced. Something similar may be happening simply when you change your character (I cant even begin to count the times I have played my main for a week, getting zero exotics and then start on an alt and drop an exotic in less than 5 minutes, or just getting a stream of rares. Its very noticable when doing mostly WvW).

But how the drops work in GW2 will keep being a mystery, Anet wont tell us hahaha.

If a Human archer fired a shot into the thick armor of a Norn Warrior, the arrow would probably just bounce off.

If a Norn archer fired a shot into the often rather ceremonial armor of a Human Warrior, the arrow would go through the front, through the body, through the back and send said Human flying 20 meters into the air and impale him onto the nearest tree/house/hillside.

Yeah… I know who I’d bet on.

And that’s before you meet that Norn berserker running toward you waving a claymore 4 meters long and as wide as your hip.

GW2 needs a new graphics engine!!!

Dawdler.8521

Maybe it’s just that I came from WoW to GW2, but I find the environment gorgeous and well detailed here. Not the same as in ESO, no, but I believe it’s an aesthetic choice on the part of ANet to go for a more painted, mildly impressionistic look instead of hard edges and stark contrasts.

The Tyrian landscape looks plenty real to me. Maybe since the real world is also generally a bit fuzzy to my myopic eyes, glasses notwithstanding?

That may be because going WoW→GW2 is like going from Doom to Crysis in terms of technology, lol.

GW2 doesnt need a new graphics engine.
GW3 certainly does though.

With a modern engine we could have quite amazing stuff, such as full vehicle-on-vehicle physics. Think Charr tanks, airships with 20+ players on them and regular ships with even more players blasting their cannons at each other on a physically modeled sea. All the zones could be just a single map, no loading areas. You could see from LA to DR if you climbed high enough. They could make the game on a whole different scale.

But seriously, its not going to happen in GW2. Because you know what would happen if they made GW2 with a new graphics engine? Absolutely nothing at all. It’d look exactly the same. Best case scenario, you’ll get better performance. Because the engine only drives the game. An engine can only support features, it doesnt magically create them when you slap a new engine onto a game. Features you have to make. Which take years. Its called making a new game.

Some weeks ago we did a borderhop from EB to one of the borders and got a queue – commander said we got ~75 people on the tag I think it was with several roamers and other people visible in the spawn.

I’m guessing that the limit is more around the 80 mark than 60-70. I do believe this was after the limits was increased again from the rather severe limits (which could very well have been 60, we couldnt even get 2 20 man guilds in a border without people in queue).

Skyrim 1st person cam

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Dawdler.8521

Waste of time and resources.

Its immersive, no doubt about that. For a game like Skyrim, it works great. But this is an MMO. An MMO where half the game is competetive WvW/sPvP and the other half is mindless PvE farming. If you can see behind a wall by being in 3rd person, you will use that to your advantage.

Secondly, GW2 was never designed for first person. Its just not the same when there is no sense of proper scale on most maps (later generation EoTM/Silverwaste/Drytop being far more impressive than original maps). Dont get me wrong, GW2 is a beautiful game and look great. But when you go close to the ground, you’ll realize that things look weird. To compare with ESO, its visuals went in the complete opposite direction – everything looked wrong due to scaling being way off, but that made 1st person “work” because it made the world feel big and more immersive (nowhere near Skyrim though, the intricate details just wasnt there).

Having a 1st person camera mode is great for screenshots. If you want a true 1st person game… GW2 is not it. Maybe you’ll get lucky and see it in GW3, who knows.

There will be no dedicated healers in GW2. The game was designed around people being self sufficient, and an inversion of that would be against the core ideas of why the game was devved in the first place.

Pff who need healers…

Stack 20 Mesmers on top of each other and they dump ~200K HP onto the group every 5 second (while also dumping ~60K single target damage and an additional ~100K AoE damage instantly at 1200 range, behind their backs if they want). If they take a break from the power spike rotation they can dump another ~700K HP onto the group in 6 or so seconds.

Dawdler.8521

estimated Pros:
- Guilds and communities still can organize themselves as they please. Communities have a way bigger potential to expand and grow stronger now.
- Since there are only 3 factions, and a PvE megaserver, recruiting to factions / guilds is much more easy.
- GvG scene is real now.

Excuse me but how the kitten is that even possible with your proposed system?

How are guilds and communities supposed to organize when all you know is that you end up as “green”. You have no idea what guilds you are going to play with. Pug players have no idea what instance they land in. Its impossible to organize anything apart from individual guild raids. Communities would be non-existant.

Regarding to recruiting to factions, I dont see how its easier. Pug and small guilds are given absolutely no reason to join, because again they have no idea where they end up. They wont join a community because communities cant exist in an free for all EoTM enviroment.

GvG scene more real? Uh… There can be zero planning. GvG would be impossible, it would just be spur of the moment scrims between the guilds that happen to be in the same instance. That’s not necessarily bad, but you have no idea of knowing whether you are going to meet them tomorrow again. Or the next hour you log on for that matter.

It all come back to the fact that a community of an instanced scale is impossible to maintain without a huge resource behind it. I said it in another thread, if Anet created a massive TS with all instances, all guilds and room for every player in the game… Yeah. EoTM style WvW might even work. Especially if we allow easy instance hopping.

But they arent going to do that. We all know it. They didnt allow a matchup forum here and they certainly wont allow a matchup TS. If they make instanced WvW servers, they would just do it like EoTM and leave it. Which would suck. It would destroy the communities that has been built up over 3 years now, it would destroy the matchups, it would ruin everything. WvW isnt perfect, but its the best we got. Improving it is never a problem. Reworking it will make people furious.
