DirectX 11 any News?

- The game is enabled to support 3GB of memory on 32-bit systems, 4GB on 64-bit (IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE enabled).

- The Dx9 is due to XP support which is still wide spread in many parts of the world. You could have a Dx11 card but if you are running XP you can only use Dx9.

- Game development started in 2007 when quad cores weren’t as prevalent, Vista was being rejected by gamers, another reason for only Dx9, and since Vista was the first Windows OS that had widespread 64-bit support for drivers, a reason why no 64-bit.

As for WoW, when ANet brings in $1 billion USD a year in income, I’m sure they could fund a tiger time to rebuild the game engine for both Dx11 and 64-bit.

This simple, listen to this guy.

I’d love some improvements myself but we don’t always get what we want because it’s just not possible, I believe Anet classifies the current state of this matter as “good” so don’t expect any changes even in the next 5 or so years.

Suggestion: Trait Reset-more toxic behavior?

(…)I have a hard time enough as it is remembering my current trait set(…)

That’s because changing traits was a pain and you settle for something that was usable and never looked at the panel again.

How do you know there isn’t something better for you on your professions?

Not saying a group should force you on a build, but don’t ask the devs to limit the retrait just on the major cities, you’ll see you can have a lot of fun experimenting before you get to the conclusion the meta builds are meta for a reason

@Wanze, I’m not disputing your numbers, what I’m saying is a lot of people bought cheap ones to turn them into something more valuable.

It doesn’t matter if the price of UI dyes goes down to 1 silver on patch day because it will go up again in time, and the kind of people that cleaned up every dye under 20 silver aren’t the kind of people that will post them for a loss, they’ll hold on to them for a year if it takes for max profit, so my point stands they deliberately used a not-so-well-thoughted solution for their monetary benefit.

I tried to find where the wiki got the information regarding Daily Reward chests, but couldn’t find anything. It could be every day like laurels, could be random like stones. I don’t think even if this does change, that it’ll ever be Gem Store only though, so don’t worry about that.

I can tell from experience it’s an occasional drop, maybe 1 in 10 dailies you’ll get 1~3 Transmutation Stones.

If someone was lucky enough to buy each common dye at 2s after the announcement in order to create a new alt to apply them to, he would have spent 3.6g initial investment and would end up with 181 unid dyes. If we say that the price for unid dyes stays stable at 40s until patch day (it will be alot less, beleive me) and he manages to log in first to sell those unid dyes for 40s, he will make 72g. Deduct initial investment cost, fees and taxes and he will end up with 57.6g profit. And that is the best case scenario, big deal?

You’re doing it wrong, which is strange since I thought you were a very successful market shark.

Before anything you don’t need to make an alt, everyone has at least 5 slots.
Now lets see just 1 dye, 2 silver each 10 silver investment to unlock it across all your 5 characters.
Come patch day you’ll get 4 UI for that color alone, even if UI dyes go down to 15 silver thats still 60 silver before tax, just for 1 color, a 10 silver investment.

But regardless of math, you’re missing the point, the UI dyes give away was made as a compensation for repeated ones you had, NOT so you could pile up on cheap repeats across your account now just so you could get the UI ones on patch day.

Meanwhile if Anet decides they will be giving the repeated colors themselves and not UI dyes how do you imagine the community reaction will be?
And what moral do they have to complain about the change?

Honestly, I’ve seen people complaining on these forums when Anet fixed some exploits on PS, people openly complained because they couldn’t make gold from farming these anymore.

Yes you can freely switch between town clothes and armor, you can even assign a key for it.

As i mentioned in my prior post, i dont see a problem in it as well and would like you to elaborate.

The sole reason people bought the cheap dyes was just so they’d get UI dyes that are more valuable, regardless of what you might try to make it look like.

This can at moderators discretion be considered an exploit.

On the early days of GW2 people got banned for buying cheap karma items and sell them for big coin profit.
We’re talking about 100’s of gold in the first few weeks, they used the same logic as you “hey I’m just buying this with karma and selling it for coin, what’s wrong with it? There’s nothing wrong with it if Anet didn’t want me to do this they wouldn’t put it in the game”.

It’s always super fun when you’re making a big profit and people are smart enough to find and go for things like this, when they are called on it the naive and innocent fest starts.

So far the ratio doesn’t seem game changing tbh.

Even if it’s less effective doesn’t mean it’s ineffective.

Too bad this will encourage other builds while the PVT-ranged-campers will keep the delusion that they are saving the team and not the reason the others are downed in the first place.

Guess it’s easier to mess with coeffitients and stats than it is to overhaul combat mechanics.

Still curious though.

If you’re downed it your fault, or do you need a healing nanny?

And when all thats left is a ranged toon soloing 25% of a boss and he gets it (like I’ve done so many times) the only delusional useless player is the one dead on the ground.

Rune Changes Suggestion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dean Calaway.9718

Dean Calaway.9718

Don’t you think that’s unecessary overly complicated?

You’d have to create a pretty complex system to deal with all the overlapping of all the rune sets and in the end you’d have to spend months fixing bugs and balance issues everywhere.

The reason they’re keeping it separated in 6 instead of 1 is so you can progress, get one then another, this for new players obviously that couldn’t afford the cost of 1 (the combined price or the current 6) and there you have another problem, turning the 6 into 1 would mean a return for everyone listed on the TP.

To go along with this the supply may be increased even more by these people who are selling their stock in order to cut their loses and free up storage space rather than save it for the long haul.

Full disclosure: I intend on buying a few stacks of Unidentified Dye on patch day, because I anticipate it being incredibly inexpensive and because I predict that it will eventually rise to 1 gold each once the excess supply works it way out of the market (since the creation rate post patch is going to be very low).

I see it ending up in a similar place to Silver Doubloons.

Same but I wasn’t going to say anything =p

And that makes 3 of us, I have 7K UI dyes ordered.

You can’t salvage (or sell on the TP) stuff bought with Karma and in this case WvW tokens because people used to exploit these (specially the karma ones), dungeon token stuff you can still salvage maybe because the devs saw the time invested justified the returns.

Regardless, you’re unlike to see these turned into salvageable ones and I wouldn’t expect a direct response.

I’d say keep them if you can but don’t hold on them unnecessarily if it’s a big problem.

If I was Anet I wouldn’t refund repeats as UI Dyes, I’d refund the repeated dyes themselves as people have clearly bought up all the undesirable ones for the sole purpose to get a pile of valuable UI Dyes on patch day.

This way if you bought the Abyss for several toons, you’ll get the Abyss back with the option to sell it, if you bought a ton of cheap dyes that you couldn’t care less just to turn in a profit by playing with the system then you’d have another thing coming.

You do realize that hundreds of thousands, if not millions of UI Dyes will be given out on patch day? Their value will be far less than what you pay for a common dye right now.

Key word is right now, you could have bought dozens of different dyes across all your toons (5? 6? 10?) for a few copper each, even if the dyes go as low as 15 silver its still a huge return profit.

Dye Changes Feedback/Questions

Dean Calaway.9718

Lmfao lets just clam down and sit back and think about this for a moment.

Ok i can see the supply for dyes but where is the demand? I will let you into a little secret there is none.

Why buy all the unidentified dye up, how do you expect to shift them exactly? what are you going to do with them sell them to who i ask?
Everyone will have ever jumped on the bandwagon and done exactly the same as you and will have there own stacks to shift themselves, are you going to buy their dyes? as they shore are not going to buy yours.

You clearly forget that the vast majority of player playing now will have no need to buy dyes of you or ever again as you can bet your kitten the most have all the rares dyes they want/need and now they are account bound across all there characters so there not going to be buy them of you.

so what options are left stock pile them for months hoping people will suddenly create a massive demand for dyes pushing the market price up for players alts, oh wait! never mind, ummmm……. maybe you could wait for new player to join and collect the gold need to buy said dyes.
Good luck with that LOL

Do you really think Anet did not know this is how the player base would react to this change and do you not think they would have put measure in place or will put measures in place on release day to make all those dye you stockpile worthless?

Can anyone say gem store dye sets!, for a set gem/gold price set my Anet.

So If you think this is you meal ticket, you’re going to be greatly disappointed all your going to end up with is a bank fall of dye you can not shift and a shed load of wasted gold.

truly priceless.

I don’t think you quite get it so I’m just gonna say it and fingers crossed I won’t get in trouble.

People bought dyes for a few copper to unlock on all of their toons, come the update they’ll get 1 unidentified dye per repeat.

Say I have 5 toons, bought 5*10 copper dyes.
Come April 15, I’d be gettin 4 unidentified dyes which a few hours ago were going for 75 silver, but even 30~35 silver EACH is a huge return investment.

People have been buying every cheap dye they can for each of their toons to have repeats, so you’re looking at stock piles of unidentified dyes they’re getting in return when the update hits.

Now I seriously hope I don’t get in trouble for saying this because between my 6 toons I have maybe 3 or 4 repeats, I missed all this craziness because I can’t be online right now so I’m not getting a cent out of it.

If you already have the same dyes unlocked on multiple characters, when you log in on additional characters, you will receive one unidentified dye for each duplicate dye already unlocked on your account."

So does this mean, in order for us to make a dye account unlocked, we must buy the color and unlock it, and if we already had it unlocked on individual characters then we get an unidentified dye for each old character locked dye of that color?

So we must once again purchase a single dye of every color we want regardless of how many characters already have it unlocked?

That sucks because last week my brother went for the Charred dye for 90 gold, now it’s gonna be locked to 1 toon when it could have been to all 9 of them.

How to end the Zerker Paradigm without Nerfs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dean Calaway.9718

Dean Calaway.9718

it will be the other way around. more gearchecks. more players will be kicked for not using berserker. more cryhards when they realise this patch did absolutely nothing and made it even worse.

also, as long as the active combat system exists, there will be no reason to use defensive gear (when you are good enough).

I beg to differ, as is most zerkers aren’t nearly as good as they think they are, they get away with it because damage was OP.
Now you’ll get failed runs and people pointing fingers wondering who’s not in zerker not realizing that they are all in zerker and the problem is they can’t survive, while a party with someone defensive to pick zerkers from the floor is actually gonna be able to finish.

If I had a gold for every time I rezed someone with the twilight I could afford the stupid thing and never use it.

If you changed to Cleric you’d be asking for a change again before a week.

How to end the Zerker Paradigm without Nerfs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dean Calaway.9718

Dean Calaway.9718

(…)
So with the new blog post I’m sure people will be buzzing about the Crit damage nerf and their proposed reasoning of improving build diversity… except it really won’t have this effect.

Maximizing damage output will still be the way to play and this is true largely due to two reasons.

1. Time gated events.
– World bosses and the like.
– Some new world events like the poison sprout events are time gated as well.

(…)

More often than not, time is of the essence in this game and it is being utilized more and more as a significant factor in game-play.

Unfortunately this means that players are going to be forced to play in the most optimal way to combat this restriction as it is the singular greatest threat to group success and enjoyment by far.

So maximizing damage is the name of the game. That’s simple enough and it’s a fact that’s been well understood since shortly after the game was released.

The best way to maximize damage is clearly Berserker gear that maximizes Power, Precision and Critical Damage [now Ferocity] and Condition damage, the only indirect way to cause damage in GW2 has earned a bad rep for being a significantly weaker approach.

Right now the problem is over the top damage, there’s no point on trying to make it look like anything else, players are (were) dealing too much damage.

Anyone trying to do anything else just looks silly and was quite frankly absolutely useless.

I cannot stress this enough, that’s the reality, trying to make it look like anything else is just making excuses, full damage was always OP in GW2 from the start, the rest of your post then is just trying to shift focus from the problem, yes condi damage needs to be fixed, but so did crit damage, not to mention not every profession can go for condi damage and the problem would remain.

So the solution was either boost the HP, which would almost make zerker required and everything else even wrost, or cut back on the damage which is what was done.
Too much damage output was always the problem period.

Alternatively we could get more content like Teq that can’t be crit so we can have all the zerkers dead on the ground and crying for nerfs.

This reminds me, a week or so ago I read a post here of someone saying “with this change we’ll be less willing to run dungeons with people not in zerker”.
I have a sneaky suspicious pretty soon that kinda player is gonna be asking for tank/healer in the LFG…

Ferocity: A Failed "Solution"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dean Calaway.9718

Dean Calaway.9718

Ferocity is THE solution. Crit damage now scale down better and Berserker is less effective which means you may not want a team full of zerkers.

Simple as this.

Right now players just roll over content because it’s the fastest way and they can easily get away with it.

Ever since the game came out if you asked how to build you’d hear “zerker” regardless.
For damage? Zerker.
For defence? Zerker, “best defence is a good offence, you kill them before they can do any damage to you”, and now everyone is raging trying to prove zerker wasn’t op all along? Please.
And before any “clever” remarks, I have 4 toons in full zerker.

Now, how often when I run dungeons with noobs (yes, because unlike the “pros” with their max gold earn per second I actually do something useful for the new player base) do we need a Cleric Guardian just so they don’t die? Very often.
CoF P3 for example sometimes fails till we get one in, then we pass it at 1st try.

Now that damage isn’t gonna be so over the top I’m guessing more groups are gonna need someone to keep them up since they can’t down enemies that fast anymore, because maintaining a fight was never in their grasp.

Getting the zerg out of Queensdale.

Level is scaled down, why not the reward for being at that level? Why allow people to run around in easy mode, with it not being any kind of challenge at all and give them high level drops? If you make the loot rewards max out at the area level, not only will it give people an incentive to get out of Queensdale, but will prompt more activity in other areas, especially high level places. You would get people exploring areas that are closer to their own level, which would help populate other zones.

The loot is already scaled, the champ bags that drop in Queensdale aren’t the same as bags that drop at high level areas.
People flock to Queensdale because they heard about it because some people saw a nice alignment with little down time, every map in Tyria has champions, people choose to go to Queensdale because everyone does it, the the lvl 80 ones do so when they can’t keep up with Frostgourge Sound.

Now besides that there are two other problems.

One, the game was designed so players don’t feel like going to low level areas is useless ence allowing them to play with friends that aren’t at their level yet or just help new players. Just look at most MMOs, the world map is just a 1 trip to level cap then absolutely useless, in GW2 thanks to scaling the world map is still a viable playable area, if you cut back on the loot low level areas would be even more empty.

Two, Anet net doesn’t want to antagonize their player base even more.
Players are happy with the champ train, it’s always running regardless of day time, so if they’re happy let them be happy.

Also, cutting the rewards on the start areas champs would be unfair for new players, and it wouldn’t change a thing, quick enough they’d all start running the train the same way on another map that happens to also lines up well.

So in the end, even if you cut the rewards all you get is people moving to another map, then Queensdale gets like every other starting area, empty.
It’s bad enough for a new player to do the intro alone (I bet there are people that don’t know you could do it with other new toons) but playing in a empty starting area is just terrible and will only further the “endgame” mentality.
Frankly if I had just started playing GW2 right now I wouldn’t be here long, I loved the early weeks/months of the game, seeing a bunch of players running around isn’t that bad and honestly it gives new players a chance to score a kill since other wise it would be impossible for them.

Ascended gear ruined the game.

Nope I fairly certain a full zerk player in nothing but exotics is still within nominal damage output for the game design.

Problem is add a full zerk player in ascended there you have your 10% increase that goes over the top. All ascended trinkets and ascended weapons at least 2 handed give more crit damage and power than exotics.

Before anything if Asc was a 10% increase over Exo, and damage is getting a 10% nerf, then Exo is getting a 10% nerf, NOT 20% as your math said.

Secondly, zerker could always go over the top, some game mechanics, like CoF P1 last boss regen, could be completely over looked and ignored thanks to the over the top damage.
Before the first ascended ring got looted zerker was already the meta, and the “best” gear, anything other than that was “useless” and you were a “noob” if you weren’t in zerker gear.

Lastly, the devs explained very clearly that they didn’t expect people to get in Exo gear so fast.
I’m an average player and by the time I hit 80 I already had bought a the full set of lvl 80 Exo gear (weapons, armor and trinkets) from the market, and back then it was more expensive and you made far less gold.
So they introduced Ascended gear.
Now, Asc gear is spouse to be a long term goal, something you do over time, only some players don’t see it that way, they want it NOW so you get the inevitable “omg GRIND I’m gonna stop playing this game”.

The Pact justification

in Lore

(…)Not just from the three Orders but from one of their own commanders – the player character. Between the Priory and the Order of Whispers does it even make sense the Pact had no idea that Scarlet might be linked to an Elder Dragon? I mean players figured it out pretty early on.

Before the data mine leak many (and I do mean many) of the perma lore forum residents (nice way to say “know” it all I’m always right you don’t know anything guys) were very much against the idea Scarlet was after the lay lines much less anything dragon related.

Now on topic, the orders and specially the Pact were created to fight elder dragons.
LA had its own military, the pact had no authority there nor the responsibility to defend it.

As far as being commander of the pact, I always thought that was just a temporary title that got lifted when Zaithan fell, doesn’t make much sense having the player character bring commander of the pact.

Another important thing to remember is the events weren’t in real time, it didn’t took weeks (that was just so everyone could enjoy it unlike the mad king blowing up the statue or the karka knocking down a light house), so you can easily imagine there was just no time to prep from the moment the heroes figure out Scarlet was gonna go for LA till the breach maker landed there.

If waypoints are a lore thing...

Honestly I’ve always thought of them as just a game mechanic thing and not something that’s actually there.
Anet should have made it so and not try to work it into lore, it’s bad enough they make the world map feel 100 times smaller.

Earning Traits VS Buying Them

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

None knows yet, it is FAR easier to predict the community’s reactions though.

1. Cheap: omg, Anet is a trash company, there is no point of exploring cause you can still buy them, what a grindy grindy grindy game this is, gold again
2. Expensive: omg, Anet have always wanted to make the game P2W, OMG OMG OMG, THE GAME IS DEAD
3. They decide to delete the gold option: OMG ANET IS FORCING ME TO PLAY CONTENT. WHY DO I NEED TO DO SOMETHING I DON’T LIKE, I HATE EXPLORATION

One of those complains is gonna be seen soon enough, who will complain is purely based on their preferences, and whoever doesn’t like the updates will come and comment negativly, since forums are negative only nowadays. Talking about haters, they will comment with one of those three regardless cause their main point is hating, not how the game is anyhow.

This is 100% guaranteed.

Personal I’m worried about the idea, not sure why just have a feeling something is gonna go really wrong.

Also, if level 80s will keep them I don’t see much of q change since new toons being rolled is not that common.
I remember recently I rolled a Sylvari then a Charr (to do PS racial achievements) and there was no one there.
