I knew I’d find a bag full of complains on the forums, and I wasn’t disappointed.
I was actually happy with the 45€ price tag because it means (or it should mean) considerable amounts of new content.
I’m amazed with the people here complaining there’s not enough content to justify the price, have you guys actually seen it yet?
I think above all the people here aren’t used to shell out money for this game when they play for free, got loads of free new content since release and even the gem shop items can be bought with gold.
Does it suck for people who recently bought the game that the core version comes as standard for free? Yeah, but if it’s a stand alone disc that means you can create a new account for inventory mules, that’s what I’ll be doing if it’s the case since my 8 chars and fully upgraded personal guild bank is fulled to the brim.
As for maps I’m not expecting as many as on release, but surely there won’t be just 1 new one and the ones that come are promised to be content rich. And don’t forget voice acting and hopefully proper in world cut scenes, not the “mexican-stand-off” style.
In short, this is a company that has given A LOT of free stuff, so if they’re charging 45€ I have high hopes for a lot of content, my advise to anyone complaining: Wait and see whats what.
Plus if people complain enough maybe Anet will realise they’ve made a horrible mistake like they did with the Flamekissed armour.
The Flamekissed armor was proof, if there ever was a need, that players don’t know what they want.
People have always asked for the option of having cultural armor in other races, and when ANet starts doing it, they go bananas about it.
If people were any clever and kept quiet, that could have meant by now I could be rocking Norn T3 cultural heavy armor on my Sylvari Warrior, but nope. That’s group mentality for you, someone complained, others followed without thinking and just ruined the opportunity. Pretty much what’s happening on this thread as I’ve read some unsubstantiated complains over wild speculation being tossed as fact.
I’ll tell you my personal experience with guilds.
This all happened in the first 2~3 months of the game by the way.
So when I got the game on the early days I joined a guild of some guys that came in from another MMO, doesn’t matter which one.
With me and my brother we were 8 people in total, but as soon as the other guys started hitting 80, they stopped playing the game, I’d call them idiots because they couldn’t see everything the game had to offer, but that’s just me.
So for some time I was rocking the tag of a dead guild when I decided I might as well not have any guild at all, because that’s what I had.
This was when I saw some guild with a funny name recruiting, and since I’m very good humored guy I thought I’d ask to join in, their only requirement was that I’d rep 100%, sounded alright to me.
The thing was, although it was fairly large I started realizing no one ever wanted to do anything when you called for help on guild chat, and I could be calling in for half an hour too with no luck. So again, I just left because I wasn’t doing anything there.
The 3rd guild I got in was a direct invite from someone after a dungeon pug, same story, 100% rep required, after I got in everyone was just always sort of busy.
So one day like any other day I asked for some help, and no one was up for anything, so I tried a little experiment, turn off the tag.
I tell you, in less than 10 minutes I had some guild leader/officer on /w giving me a speech of how I was “denying YOUR guild influence…”.
Really? What has the guild ever done for me besides nothing?
So once more, I just left.
Reality is most guilds work as a pyramid, you have the top players collecting all the perks of the influence all these other players generate, and some (won’t risk a number) even ask you for a weekly deposit of 10~20 silver, doesn’t sound like much per player but from a few dozens it’s a very nice cash flow the officers will use to get their tags and legendaries without much effort.
That’s why you see stock piles of useless PvE commanders and shockingly bad WvW ones.
At the end what I did was, well, my own guild really.
Today I got all the bank upgrades unlocked and all the banners upgrades (except hero) and I’m sitting on 24K Influence.
All of that would have gone to some weasel guys if I had just kept staying with these guilds and I couldn’t enjoy the fruits of my labor.
Today I’ve been playing for 1001 days and all I have I got it on my own or with pugs, I recommend you doing the same so you don’t owe any favors to anyone.
It’s the peril of being in a tier you don’t belong. Perhaps your offhours coverage outnumbers the other two servers? This would keep you in a tier in which your particular time zone is outnumbered. If your server is outnumbered 24/7 then don’t worry you will drop tiers to a more balanced matchup soon.
I always play at different times of day and it’s pretty much always the same, outnumbered.
The reason we don’t drop tier is, despite being 2 or 3 to 1, we can still win open field fights.
But when you’re against superior number pretty much around the clock, there’s only so much you can do.
I’ve posted some pictures the other day of some of these occasions where all you can do it just run away and try to do something else since trying to fight is basically just blowing at the wind.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/WVW-Matchups-3/first#post5054586
So much so that I doubt I’m going to be in wvw much until it changes
You mean you don’t enjoy playing WvW like this?
So I recently put down 30$ to get gems. I converted them to gold and bought commander for WvW zerging. I’m having a very hard time gathering people. I’ve look around for help with creating the zerg, but they all talk about how to command, not how to create a zerg. So I’m asking for your help
Well you just make sure you go to a server that has everyone and their mother pilling up to get on 3, 4, 5 v 1 fights, and they’ll come like mots to that shiny 30$ tag you bought.
Like this. They’re so happy they’re even laughing, #winning!
You should see them running away from 1v1’s though…
so what are you guys running fps wise? on average just playing through the game? i don’t have a high end PC, just an HP laptop. i lag horribly during boss fights..forget WvW, but i CAN play the game smoothly during events and just regular exploration.
From what you described what you need is to lock your FPS at 30 and set the population limit to lowest.
You’ll still see all the name tags (if you have them on) but you won’t get 100 characters on your screen which will improve performance greatly.
Also as a laptop, make triple sure you have good ventilation, a cooler pad is a must.
The item Thoughtless Potion [&B7paAAA=] has been bugged since the last patch.
The above head floating horns stopped following the character rotation in world, remaining stationarity the whole time.
I tell you what I don’t want. More paper-mache weapons.
I know it’s a fantasy game, but there are plenty of fantasy weapons already. Where are things like the Ebon Blade? Kymswarden? And so on?
On release there was a great balance between believable (I said believable, not realistic) and high-fantasy ones.
Since then pretty much everything has been high fantasy (with the very rare exception of the rapiers) the only weapons I use on any of my characters that were not in the original release are the ascended bows, everything else I just don’t like it because I find it way over the top.
Sure, just have to wait for my turn in a 50 people queue to get in.
Guilds typically wouldn’t GvG on a full map. They would do it at a quieter time, usually towards the end of the week. GvG impact on queues/ppt were blown out of proportion by ANet and people bought into it.
Sacrx’ NDA leaked highlighted ANET’s stance and how bloodlust was introduced to unbalance WvW even more and push people towards PvP for more balanced fighting.
For the longest time anything WvW had to go through the PvP team first. PvP e-sports has always been ANET’s focus over WvW, let alone GvG.
Many of the GvG successes were in spite of ANET and the ignorance of some players.
I’ve seen it first hand, 10, 20… 50+ queue on my home server BL, by the time I get in there’s about 10 tags up for GvG and we are barely holding any objectives.
I haven’t bought onto anything, like I said, I’ve seen it first hand.
As for ruins and bloodlust, they came along when a significant number of players kept demanding something for a small group to do that would give a real map wide impact.
The only problem with ruins is lack of loot and wxp, thats why they go mostly ignored (except when they’re up for a daily) despite of being exactly what so many people asked for so long, small fights with big map wide impact.
I just find it funny how GvGs could go to EotM, or OS (with an arena built for them) but no, because reasons.
So BL it is, and everyone should just stop playing WvW because GvGs want to play their own made up game an feel entitled to call names to anyone that doesn’t go but their own rules.
Its like me saying “No one attacks Ulgoth, I wanna see if I can down him with retaliation alone” and when everyone just ignores that and jumps in, I call the entire map a bunch of trolls for not playing by my made up rules and funny game.
If I can add my two cents I’ve done WvW map completion 5 times.
Now that is getting cast out because some players were very vocal about it and thought they shouldn’t have to go to the trouble.
Law of the least effort I guess, I mean screw me and everyone that did map completion and had to get all the WvW maps.
Maybe its time for me to start whining I don’t like gold grind so anet has to make precursors available at 1 gold on some vendor, because reasons and reasons and reasons and whats so legendary about gold grind? It shouldn’t be a thing, it just shouldn’t, nag nag nag nag.
Oh and when they finally get the precursors at 1 gold, I wouldn’t bother with a legendary anyway because they all look ridiculous.
I got 17 stacks of uni dyes sitting on my guild bank, that alone sold right now would be enough to flat out buy a legendary from the market without a sweat.
With the growing in population of late with Gw2, more and more trolling of GvGs are taking place. All it takes is for one dude to ruin a GvG match whether its in the obsidium sanctum or by the windmill. Last year and before that I’d say 99% of players respected gvgs and stayed on the side lines. New players are not familiar with this and there seems to be here-and-there players with no guild tags shooting arrows into the arena.(…)
The way I see it GvG is trolling WvW.
I fancy playing some WvW can I? Sure, just have to wait for my turn in a 50 people queue to get in.
I got in, lets do something, no wait I can’t, because GvGs can’t be bother to do anything but fighting for 2 minutes and waiting the next 5 to reset.
What is that? Are you telling me I’ve spent the last 2 hours running dollies to upgrade a tower and mean while the map got full of people for GvG and no matter how much I ask for help no one is coming and they even get to “lel” on map chat at my desperation when I see my hard work going to hell?
I think theres one thing people don’t quite get it, WvW is NOT GvG, you don’t get to call me names (and I do get called plenty) if when I see you standing about to GvG I come along join in on the fight, THATS WvW as is intended, you don’t get to twist a whole game mode to silk your mood and tell people that play the game as intended are wrong.
(edited by Dean Calaway.9718)
The number one problem with WvW is population imbalance, until maps have a dynamic cap to guarantee even numbers at all time you’re gonna have this problem.
Leave it to the players? I hardly think so, you cannot put something like this in their hands because they’re always gonna be the little-wanna-be guys that will just pile up on the highest populated on and happily hop around when they “win”, because going 3~5 to 1 fights is the only way they got.
I very much doubt there will be private rooms on guild halls.
The whole housing concept while interesting just boils down to the time you spend making your place.
How much time will you spend looking at it and enjoying? Very little. Hanging out with friends? Not much. QQ about adding more stuff and how everything is on the gem store and ANet “only cares about the monies”? A lot.
In short I think that’s a can of worms ANet just doesn’t wanna open so they don’t have to deal with the most ludicrous complains.
You’ll get guild halls with pre set upgrades that you unlock and the banners flying around, but I’m betting that’s it.
What I really hope is for more serious (lack of better word) weapons. IMO the legendary bows are awful, the pistol too, they look funny and I really expect to see something that have a more deadly look, like The Predator, the spear, Frostfang, etc… And a better sword skin, I really dont like Jolt, Infinity Light looks better than it.
^ This.
I’d call it believable and notice I used the word believable, not realistic.
Been playing since the first week and can’t bring myself to make any, even if I probably have 60% of the mats.
They just look like a gag.
I wanted a simple elegant weapon (no, not a light saber) something that would be incredibly detailed but not gigantic or with a million look-at-me effects.
And if they could make it so it’s something personal that you do alone, that would be great.
Look at Liadri, or laurels, something along those lines, something that in the end I could say:
“I did that, ALONE” and not, “well my guildies helped, and I champ train for 2 months, portals on BL for BoH…”.
This will be hell in WvW, I often find myself trying to get in a tower that’s being attacked by 10, 20 even 30.
If it’s hard enough already, with the change in stability forget about even trying.
Then the second part of my post applies: let’s hope there is no mathematical advantage from those masteries that are in the “core” game. I don’t want to see a “LF4 Zerkers, 15k AP, 20 Ascalon Mastery points only” because that Ascalon mastery gives +5% damage vs ghosts but is only available in the expansion.
Even if it gets to that it’s not like there won’t be any other parties, and you get the hypothetical Mastery you can join those.
As for specializations, which is what I think the OP meant, they’re just spouse to be another way of playing the professions, not be more powerful.
I don’t get what’s tripping people, just like the Revenant, it’s NOT spouse to be an OP class.
as long as cheap budget PC exist ppl will not get expensive high end PC. also as long as ppl think a low budget pc = xbox one performance we will for ever be plagued with this problem.
I know exactly what you mean, I hate going out on my Ferrari 458 and everyone else is just on these crappy cars, but as long as they keep making them…
By the way, about the console remark and since you’re coming across as a #masterrace, show me a PC-Game running on a P4, 7600, 512MB RAM that looks and plays like The Last of Us, MGS5, GTA5 etc.
What? You can’t? Oh because you need a lot more power on a PC to do what a console does with a fraction? And years for now the PC you got now that’s on paper better than a PS4/Xone is gonna be on a can because it just won’t be able to play anything while the consoles are still gonna be kicking? Bummer.
Oh, there may be some additions in the HoT area as well, but yes the main LS storyline will be in the “base” world. They’ve already said this somewhere, but I don’t remember where or when.
I bet you theres only gonna be LS on the new maps, or at least locked for people with HoT, which is FINE.
Unlike what people love to say here, ANet is not trying to squeeze every penny from you, not when they give you bag loads of FREE content and even allow you to trade in-game gold directly for gems.
You could have just bought the game on day one, not spend another cent and you haven’t been locked out of anything until today, nothing at all. How many MMOs can you say the same?
This might not be a popular opinion but I hope they’re NOTHING like the old ones.
Acquiring the old is a drag, its all about grind and asking guildies for help.
Then the looks, well…
So I really hope theres a whole new way.
Good news for you guys is it might not, it’s probably the same. Because like you two there are countless people already getting ready for them, and if that pre-work was for nothing there would be no end to refund requests.

And I also believe this sort of style takes away from the sense of empowerment players should feel by having them, I believe that they want to show off to others how dedicated and skilled they are for taking the time to make the weapon by looking distinct and kitten, not goofy.
That’s why I also don’t bother with any legendary.
As for skill, I love the 2,5~3k Twilight Warriors I randomly get in 1v1 at times.
My Warrior looks quite unimpressive, Ebon Blade, Honor of Humanity, Bandit Warhorn. So they must feel pretty confident when they jump me then they can’t run away far enough, literary because I can catch them.
So not only I want the new legendary weapons to be more sober and believable, I want the track for it to involve actual skill.
If I had my way we’ll have something like Liadri.
Picture this:
You get a boss like Liadri, defeat it to get a token.
Four weeks later another one comes up.
It doesn’t replace the old one, its just a new one somewhere else in the world. This new one has been built with metrics collected from the old one, basically make it even harder.
Four weeks later another one even harder, then another.
Twelve different ones sounds like a good number, and with those tokens you can get a precursor for the new legendary.
As for the number of tries, I wouldn’t like a ticket system, I’d much rather have a five or ten try per day cool down, just so it’s not only time gated, but also the map it might be on doesn’t get crazy queues for each fight.
As for the rest of the stuff, T6 mats for example don’t appeal too much either because they’re all about grinding gold (with a group of other people normally) and a legendary should be a personal thing, something you should do on your own with NO chance of getting any help.
Only then you’ll have some sense of personal achievement and when you see someone with one you can nod and think to yourself “there goes a kitten” because right now when I see a legendary I only think “how many hours did this guy champ farm before getting this thing from the trading post?”.
I think after so much free content people are spoiled.
It’s an expansion for an MMO, while it’s fair to assume some features might be coming for free, it’s best to just consider all of this is paid content.
For the people mentioning PvP imbalances, the new profession masteries aren’t spouse to be more powerful than what’s currently available, so it shouldn’t be any more difficult to handle them.
I was wondering if anyone else is also having this problem.
So far I’ve only noticed on this particular spot, not anywhere else in the game.
Also, it doesn’t matter how many times I log in and restart or the graphics settings I use, these weird lights are always on these walls and floor, but only on this landing point.
Before anything you have to remember if there’s as much as a pebble in the way, the target gets obstructed.
So often times that Rapid Fire just returns obstructed obstructed obstructed obstructed and 0 damage when theres NOTHING in the way.
So much like the pets abilities the Rapid Fire is more of a “hope it works AS IT SHOULD” kind of skill.
Then you have the matter of predictability, it just is.
You can charge a Ranger, if he lays the Rapid Fire on you, just dodge roll twice towards him, thats almost all the damage of that skill mitigated and look at that, you’re pretty much face to face now.
Then consider things like useless broken pets, and the fact that you either pick Piercing Arrows or a viable Hunter’s Shot because if that arrow hits a 2nd target you get insta reveal.
Fact is Ranger was and still is kinda weak compared to some other classes, they get a buff to try to get them up on par and theres no end to threads like this.
I haven’t tried to pug with my Ranger in ages, but not long ago joining a party with a Ranger would get you kicked, no nothing, just kicked, its also the only class that ever got “LFG ________ no Rangers”, what does that tells you?
I dont want more ,“you %&$#ing nub 222222 ranger!” whispers from d/p thieves! If i go roam they always whisper me, but just that kind of thieves, nobody else
Hahaha. Well there must be reason they whisper that to you… Are you by any chance a 2222222 PEWPEWPEWPEWPEW ranger? If so… I totally understand the thieves, because that build is broken.
Thiefs have always enjoyed broken builds, still today if they want (and are good enough) they just poof and the fight is pretty much over. Personally I never bother chasing after thiefs because they’ll just drag it on hoping some mates show up to jump on me.
On topic, the blocking has always been broken in GW2.
Just the fact that you can see which map that person is just encourages stalking and theres been plenty of topics about how this should be improved.
And yes, you can check the user name of the enemy and whisper that way, but I don’t think you were spouse to, and right now the only thing stopping people from abusing it is either they don’t know (I’m surprised a mod has allowed this topic since to my eye I’d consider this to be a bit of an exploit) or they just can’t be bothered with the work it takes, making it easier is just a bad idea.
I’m talking for personal experience because when I get in a 1v1 for example and that guy runs away only to find his people to then turn around and come at me when I’m outnumbered then mock when he “wins”, yes, he’s gonna get a piece of Gunnery Sergeant Hartman over here.
If this was just made easier there would be no end to toxic whispers, so I’m with other people here that say cross server whisper when you’re in WvW at least should be blocked.
Pretty simple thing to do, if you are in WvW you can’t whisper people from the servers you are up against, you got friends in there? Go to PvX so you can whisper, while you are in a WvW you wouldn’t be allowed.
The solution is easy:
(…)
That is the function in C code that fixes the problem. If queue times become long then people transfer to the lower WvW pop servers…and it all spreads out.
For this to have taken so long is really hard to understand.
Thanks
EDIT: After a second look I realized both solutions are the same as it has been brought to my attention. Leaving the rest of my post for the sake of argument.
You could have a lowest limit of 15, for example, just so no one server can lock everyone out of one map, as if that was even possible.
Then after that have the limit dynamically increased or reduced depending the side with the lowest presence +5, for example.
Server A has 27 people in?
Limit for servers B and C is 32.
Server B suddenly goes away in mass leaving only 18 people behind?
New cap for the map is 23, server C might still have 32 people in at this point, but no on else will be allowed in even when they start going away until they dip bellow the limit.
Server A disappears leaving only 4 behind? Map limit of 15 for the others.
Is there room to exploit this? Frankly no, if you think you can control everyone in a server you have another thing coming, people do as they please, try to boycott telling everyone not to go there and see what that gets you.
With a dynamic population cap you would effectively be fighting with even numbers all the time, which is ultimately what people want, except the ones that play around the fact they can outnumber the enemy 3, 4 or 5 to 1 and call that “winning”.
(edited by Dean Calaway.9718)
To start let me say this isn’t a thread to argue about the viability of said stats, if you were thinking about posting something in the lines of “Why bother?” or “You’d be better off with…” then you can subtract that opinion before you even post it.
To the point, I was very disappointed after so long to level leatherwork (before Ascended I never bothered with any crafting) to find out the Tempered Spinal Blades don’t have sentinel stats when the Exotic version has.
When I made the Ascended version I used a clean Exotic, i.e. with no starts selected, I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t make a difference but I’ll ask anyway, if I had used an Exotic Sentinel, would I had gotten an Ascended Sentinel?
I know there is a Sentinel Ascended amulet, and you can also get full armor and weapons, why not the backpiece? And while we’re at it, why no Rings and Accessories either?
I don’t know why you feel this warrants a thread, nor do I know why you think ticking 610 is an accomplishment.
I agree, to tick that they’re most likely vastly outnumbering their opponents.
I am so fed up with being yanked around, pushed around, knocked down, chilled, crippled, stunned, anything and everything they PACK into every godkitten zone to prevent me from doing something so SIMPLE as trying to get to my party! It’s REALLY getting out of hand, and just made it all too easy to switch off the game tonight and watch a movie instead.
Wanna pack a dungeon with all that stuff? HAVE AT IT, I definetely feel we should have to get smart to skip all those trash mobs!
But in the open world? C’mon ANET, give a dude a break, those are some big effing zones to be getting messed with the WHOLE way to your party.
Please tone it down.
/rant off
People are gonna say Stability & Condi Clear (didn’t read past 1st) but if you think it’s bad on dungeons, WvW can be much worst.
SWTOR uses what they call a “Resolve Bar” basically when you get any CC on you a bar fills up and when it’s full you’re immune to CC for a period of time.
Kinda like Defiance that Champs have.
Players could definitely use something like that too because like you said, it’s annoying beyond believe.
Because I would like to walk with my different characters every now and then.
OP, please expound upon your vague statement and articulate your reasons for wanting “account bound map completion” in a way we can understand. because i am genuinely confused. (maybe it’s just my incurable bacon deficiency.)
how does map completion affect “walk” mode? you can toggle “walk” / “run” mode without map completion on a character.
or did you mean that you want XP from map completion to be account bound, essentially leveling up all your characters on your account by only playing one character…?
or did you mean that you simply want the map to unfog for all the characters on your account once you unfog that map with one character?
Basically he wants all WPs unlocked across all characters so he doesn’t have to walk to them.
I’ve done 100% map 3 times and I’m planning with time to have it on my other 2 characters. How would you compensate my ( and so many other people’s) time doing that? How would you get several gifts of exploration?
Even if it’s just unlocking he WPs that would be unfair to say the least, why not upgrade dungeon gear from exotic to ascended while you’re at it?
I think who ever had this idea thought it would be a great thing for people that keep asking for “stuff for small groups to do”, truth is, if this is implemented it will do A LOT more harm than good.
Just remember ANet redesigned the center of the BLs into something beautiful so small groups could wrestle the objectives from each other and actually create an impact across the maps (in the form of a very desirable buff) everything they always begged for.
Result? No one ever steps in the middle unless they are crossing it to get somewhere else, it’s a mostly ignored mechanic which is surprising considering all the threads made asking for something like this…
So if ANet has this idea that some people are actually going to enjoy sitting on some objectives, they have something else coming, people that do that already are mostly AFK, not guarding anything.
And speaking of that, I’d love some aggressive kicking when there’s a queue to get in a map, how often do I see a queue of 30+ and when I finally get in there’s some 20 guys afk between home and keep? Too often.
Now the OP had a good idea here of having the outnumbered buff increase the HP of the objectives, on that line the whole buff should be revised to be something serious giving toughness and HP for example because right now it’s not doing anything.
And it happened again. A friend of mine that has been on piken square for ages, even though he won silver tournement got bored. He thought I want to go to t1 for more fun fights. So he looked at the scores. Guess wich server he chose?
Seafarer’s rest.(…)
No surprise there, but it’s not like they are any good.
This week I destroyed an Ele and a War 1v1, that Warrior with 2 legendaries, always love those, even teased her in a whisper but no reply.
Having that said SFR will ALWAYS run away from 1v1, that warrior I talked about, had to chase her half way across the map.
How often do I see one of them alone heading my way then quickly turn back and run away only till they find some mates to turn to me again and then “fight like heros”?
Last night someone was complaining on /m about an SFR Engi jumping all happy on one of us after a 6v1, how pathetic can they be?
They can gloat about “winning” all I have to say is, really? The way they outnumber everyone else that’s not difficult. Guess they’re the kind to chant victory if they beat a toddler or an elderly person…
so what if a BL is left w/o any player?
Refer to my original post.
(…)Now you must be thinking there must be room in there to play with that system (…) this can be easily fixed by always having a minimum of lets say 10(…)
I really think this could work and I’ve love to see a four week tournament with this in place, just to give it a good try.
It would suddenly be about who’s the best organize since numbers would be pretty much the same on either of the three sides.
To the original post on the first page…
I like this idea too, make the limit of how many can be on map MUCH lower, something obscenely lower like fifty! I like it – I vote yes!
How about have a dynamic cap?
You have servers A, B and C, which ever has the smallest number of players on that map, that number is set as cap.
Lets imagine in the Eternal Battleground the servers have the following numbers:
A: 75
B: 42
C: 50
The cap limit would be set to 42, that means server C and server A cannot get any more people in unless more people come in server B, even if people from server A and C started leaving the map, it wouldn’t let anyone in unless they went below 42, because that would be the cap set by the server with the lowest presence on that map.
And because the system would work dynamically it would always keep the numbers close since you have people coming and going constantly.
Now you must be thinking there must be room in there to play with that system, but that would be pretty much impossible.
You’re probably imagining if you can prevent people from server A to get in a map after they cap everything, then server B and C can’t go in to retake it.
Not only this can be easily fixed by always having a minimum of lets say 10, but even if you could somehow tell everyone on server A not to get in that WvW map (which is impossible, but even if you could) a lot of people simply wouldn’t listen and go regardless, so any idea of somehow controlling it this way is pretty impossible.
I’d really like to have this dynamic cap implemented, we’d keep the huge battles when opposing servers have the numbers for it and at the same time prevent some massive outnumbering that I see everyday and everyone has been complaining about since always.

You’re deluding yourselves.
1500m, high velocity, tracking, 8 sec recharge skill that does THAT much dmg that fast is a cancer to the profession and game modes.I have 2 lvl 80 Rangers which i’ve always loved playing, but last night running around wvw was a complete joke. I specc’ed full berzerker 6/6/xxx just to see the changes at thier full potential and it was the least fun i’ve ever had playing my ranger, Fights didn’t feel hard won at all and very very cheesey.
But unfortunately for every player like myself that likes to feel like they’ve earned a wvw kill, there will be 1000 players who just want the ‘i win’ button. Please think before you defend or justify these changes.
Do you want Rangers to become the fotm cheesemode scrub class? because thats exactley the rep they will now get.
Have some pride in your Ranger and in your own skills because being OP gets very old very fast.
If you want hard fights you should get a Condi Mesmer, oh wait…
My main is a Ranger and for 2 years its always been the “lazy skillless noob lol” profession, we get a buff and you are that upset?
I wish they had removed the distance from #1 and leave full damage at all distances.
Put shortbow back to 1200 and point blank shot to 1500 again.
Lets not forget, frost spirit nerf which was about the only thing preventing insta kicks on pugs.
All and all I don’t think rapid fire it’s OP now, because all other classes have skills that can put out as much or more damage, longbow was always a joke so it’s about time it got some viability.
(…)Yes, leveling is faster now. (…) Before I was able to get all my weapon skills unlocked around level 5, and that was if I wasn’t grinding them out quickly. Now I have to wait until level 10. I can no longer use any utilities until level 13. By level 10 before I was able to have at least a couple unlocked by doing all the skill points, and using scrolls if I had any.
Again, being this something thats dealt with in an incredible short time I don’t see the reason for so many people to be so upset up, how many alts does an altholic have and how often do they start one for this to be such a huge deal?
The main issue, at least for me, is being dictated on how I should play the game. Why do I need to grind out levels, just to be able to use the skills inherent with my character?
Gating skills with levels was always a game mechanic, now it takes a bit longer, arguably, since I think now, minute for minute, you’ll be able to unlock every weapon skill faster than you could.
You still play it the same way, only now maybe new players will take the time to understand individual skills and don’t get the impression the game is too spammy, while vets, again, will deal with it quick enough to be any real bother.
Why do I need to wait until X level to be able to play the story? The first chapter unlocks at 10. Thats fine, whatever, I can deal with it. But I can go straight through those chapters, and maybe level up a bit. But I can’t do the next chapter until I get to level 20. So I have to step away from a “seamless” story to grind out some more levels, just to continue the story. I like the story, and want to go through it, but am restricted on when Anet feels that I can.
Personal story was never, ever meant to be played one instance after the other from beginning to end.
It was actually quite a common complain that new players brought to the forums while seasoned players explained they couldn’t do that, countless were the threads about this and how the game failed to tell people they had to step away from the personal story now and then to gain a few levels before they could continue, it was poor design many said.
Now that Anet locks it to avoid people falling into it and having a bad time, that’s a reason to complain?
Do you only see things in black and white? Why the penchant for false dichotomy?
This case is black and white because there’s nothing complicated about it.
The only people upset are the ones that lost the keyfarm, but aren’t even brave enough to openly admit that.
Instead they go around complaining how bad it is for gameplay and combat depth in early levels when they couldn’t care less about something they’d normally only do once every few months (read create a new alt to play) and that’s dealt with in an hour.
If people are upset about losing the farm, they should say so, not hide behind false concern and give Anet an ultimatum, all people ever wanted was to power level, levelling to 10 is allegedly faster now than it was before, so what’s the problem? You know, besides no more keyfarm?
You make it sound like farming is a bad thing. For all we know, key farmers are doing so because it’s the only thing left they enjoy in the game. How would you feel if the last aspect of the game that you like gets removed for no valid justification? Anet already stated that it is acceptable after all.
Nobody enjoys key farming, it’s a 10~15 minute loop people repeat N times for a chance to get tickets so they can trade them for expensive skins to sell them on the market for gold.
You do not speak for everyone. A person who really is only invested in making gold will find key farming one of the more inefficient methods of generating income.
Ok, so you are insisting people key farm for the enjoyment, not the rewards? Which by not being limited to gold have a valid appeal unlike what you are trying to paint.
What was so enjoyable on repeating the personal story till 10 while skipping all the dialog, deleting the char and do it again and again?

And I didn’t say it was specifically a bad thing, although I’d rather get shot on the back of the head than key farm all day.
What I said was, they’re discontent because these changes affect their farm, but they complain like it’s a bad thing mechanic-wise when in reality they couldn’t care less about that.
Even if they do make an alt to actually play, they’ll sail over this new leveling to 10 in less than hour.
In the old system people would just #1#1#1#1 anyway, now they’re complaining there’s not enough dept in the first hour of the game? Not to mention a veteran player has a few tomes to jump to 20 right away by now.
I doubt GW2 will be FTP like SWTOR.
SWTOR failed because they tried to survive on box sales and subscription only.
They panicked and came up with their free to play model on the fly. GW2 was developed with the current model in mind and was developed quite well around it.
The VIP would only be an optional subscription model which offered additional benefits you would usually find in the cash shop.
My guess is that everything listed in the VIP bundle will also be sold separately in the cash shop, but the benefit for being VIP is that you save more gems and after 12 months of being a VIP you gain a precursor (which may not have the same value once we start crafting precursors).
I still don’t like the idea, like you said, the system works, you buy what you want if and when you want (disregarding temp stuff obviously) would you save gems? Probably, but would you really? You’re getting stuff you don’t mind but at the same time you’d never buy separately.
It’s the same thing with phone contracts, mine doesn’t have a subscription/mandatory fee which means the calls are more expensive, but I spend 4 times less in a year window.
For me these kind of tactics just feel dishonest, and then you have the precursor…
Before anything, an item to have any value in an MMO has to be rare, that means MOST people can’t have it.
Precursor crafting is said to be on the works for over a year, I think it will never come, that means this VIP system would be the only sure way for one, need I say more?
And I don’t even care about legendary weapons, I got a precursor dropped from Jormag that I could use in 2 chats and I just sold the thing, they just look silly, the ultimate prove people don’t mind looking like fabulous clowns just to get some sense of entitlement.
By the way, a much better way for a sure precursor would be 500 laurels, just saying Anet, quick and simple.
Since I can’t play the game the first time again, I can’t really provide useful feedback on this topic, but this NPE (New player experience?) didn’t get too much positive feedback from alt creators, and for this I think this should be an one time thing.
(..)
Most, and I do mean most, of those alt creators that are qqing are key farmers.
Then you have established people that would #1#1#1 with their alts till 80 while farming the same event chain on some hot spots, so in all fairness recent changes could go mostly unnoticed, the problem is they now have to explore the world to unlock traits, “how could Anet force me to play the game? All they care about is gems”.
Honestly how many veteran are pumping out that many alts?
And actual new players don’t even have a basis of comparison and given the leveling process is so fast, how is any of this a bad thing except for the key farmers?
To the OP, congratulations on having a boy that can read at the age 6.
I must also congratulate him for being able to follow the story and get invested on it to the point where making death rain on the enemies in the story instance is super fun, but on the open map till he gets to lvl 10 (in what? One afternoon?) not so much, just no!
Judging by the amount of people that are crossed by this, and how vocal they are, I guess the real reason for this discontent is the black lion key farm.
Lets face it, how many people posting in the forums about this are actual new players like the op claims to be?
How many are rolling out a new char to get to 80 and play the game?
Honestly I think they’re missing opportunities with simple stuff. (…)
So what about balancing all those new skills/weapon skill?
They’d either be useless, which would grant Anet the classic “bravo well done” slow sarcastic clap, or they’d be op and grant Anet the classic “bravo well done” slow sarcastic clap.
I’m all for evolution but that would just be a disaster.
As for the Tengu I think whats tripping Anet is how to introduce them and give them a story.
Here’s my suggestion, going along with the phasing things in approach.
Tengu as a playable race would only be unlocked in accounts that have at least one level 80, after you select them you get to choose what starting area of the five you want to start at and all done.
Lore wise these Tengu are fed up with their life style and being locked in the Dominion of Winds.
Mechanically these characters don’t have a personal story, they are only introduced to the Living Story season 2, basically instead of people calling them “commander of the pact” they call them “new guy”, other race specific dialog can happen like we already have.
It’s a simple and elegant solution.
That vip package would be perfect for the game being completely F2P. Seriously, I think we are going to see a f2p version. Not a bad idea, look how well Swtor is doing financially after going f2p with sub option.
For the love of all that’s holly, don’t make this a SWTOR.
I used to play it, quite like it, then I quit after 90 days, even before I reached lvl 50 (cap) there, why?
Numerous reasons, but keeping it short, their F2P is basically a demo, you are limited in every single way, you even have a cap on how much coin you can have, you can’t hide your head gear, you can’t even wear a basic title which over there is a much bigger deal since it blends with your name.
In conclusion, I’ve been playing GW2 since the first week and I’m online most days, I like it the way it is, and so do many other players.
Changes were mean for new players, to phase them in on game mechanics.
I remember on the first week plenty of people asking how to feed the cows for example because unless you’d hold your ctrl key you were likely to miss these kind of interactive objects.
I could bet most of you were just like that, and even right now you don’t even know your underwater weapons, but it’s funny to mock I guess, gotta feed your own ego somehow.
Something that me and a friend discussed the other night, was how GW2 has guaranteed no rewards, and this really bothers me. Whenever you are exploring the world, and find that hidden cave, you are almost guaranteed to find nothing of interest what so ever.
There may be a treasure chest filled with the same useless green and blue items that drop from any other enemy (if there is any chest at all). There may be a veteran monster, that just takes longer to kill, and doesn’t provide a meaningful reward worth the effort. And all this does not encourage me to explore the world. What’s the point of discovering a cave behind a waterfall, when the cave contains nothing that I wouldn’t find anywhere else?
The game needs better rewards overall, but it certainly needs to reward exploration better. This could be done in the form of achievements, but also in the form of an extra page in your journal. When I discover a cave, let there be something special in it that makes me feel rewarded for my trouble.
Better rewards for people to farm?
That veteran talk reminds me of something, oh yeah, the Champions “they should have better rewards” alright there you go what did people do? Yeah…
Finding it its is own reward, and it the devs got to the trouble of making something for the journal (which would be a substantial amount of work) 99% wouldn’t care while the other 1% would complain about some detail that its not 100% accurate according to GW1 “they’re killing the game! So much disregard”.
- Megaserver — so something had to be done, I guess, about declining server populations, but this update was seemingly rushed out the door with 0 consideration given to how it would impact the community. News update: it had a profoundly negative impact.
I like it quite a lot, and besides trying to get 150 people of your guild in 1 map, I don’t really see ANY problems with it, RP maybe.
But surely nothing of a “profoundly negative”.
I could list PLENTY of good things that happened with this, but I’ll leave 1 and let you go to the plentiful topics about this matter.
CoF was in a sorry state, talking about the event to open the door.
When the LFG tool was introduced all you’d see was “px need opener” parties would form and disband after 1 minute if no one could open the door and people resorted to guesting on a server that happened to have it open.
Not that there wasn’t enough people by the door, those people would simply rather walk around in circles because apparently they were too 1337 for the event.
How many times I solo the escort event and failed on the bridge because I couldn’t cover the 2 sides? Too many. And when someone did show to help by the time any champion appeared you’d have ~10 running down hill to kill it and then leave immediately back up to their original positions, scaling up the event…
So with the megaserver, instead of having 1~2 souls per server trying to get it done, we have all those in one or two, and we can actually do it.
Nearly everyday I create my own LFG adverts, all I do is “Px open”, theres never a shortage of people and as long as they don’t die all over the place or be completely clueless I don’t really care about AP.
You shouldn’t have a problem making your own.
I don’t think it will be phased out because that would be A LOT of work.
And by the way, the WvW thing was just a way to turn a part of the map no one ever wanted to play on, to something “small groups can do that will actually contribute to the fight without having to zerg” boy did they cried about it, now that something is there no small groups are to be seen, but what ever.
Whats happening is no new underwater content, since it was too hard for people to learn the underwater weapons and movement in a volume, all they did was spam their skills and complain it was too hard.
Is it just me or is Taimi’s carefree Scarlet worship starting to be a problem. She has always been fascinated with Scarlet’s research but then we find the machine that supposedly caused Scarlet to go nuts and she runs inside without a thought about what could happen and it jealous that you got to see the eternal alchemy instead of herself. I could easily see the GMs making Taimi turn into Scarlet 2.0 before the end of the season and force the player to kill her. Anyone else thinking the same thing?
That will hardly happen, hell she has to be inside the golem to comply with age ratings of the game, as in a child cannot be put in danger.
Well, when Belinda was strangled in all the thorns she wasn’t holding or wearing her weapon, so I searched the ground in the whole instance like 2 hours but didn’t find the kitten thing (…) I guess is has to be that Anet found out people searched the area around dead Belinda for the greatsword for way to long, so they just attached it to her back again to not let confusion be there.(…)
That was some serious time wasted, even if it was on the floor, you wouldn’t be able to pick it up.
Not the mention how any gesture hides your weapons and back item, the sword not being in her back means nothing.
