Ragnarok Online has this and a series of check boxes to prevent abuse.
GW2’s system would be like this below:
[ ] Allow inspecting from everyone.*
[ ] Allow inspecting only from people I know (gw2 contacts: followers and friends).
[ ] Allow inspecting only from people that both know me and I know myself (both you and person must have each other on contacts not just followers).
[ ] Disallow all inspection.
*excludes ignore/blocked list.

Any official reply to this would shock the precursor market. All I can say is we’re watching.
In other words ANet has been/is/will be manipulating the precursor market. If ANet is watching, as John has stated, then they are willing to (or have) intervene(d). On the other hand, if they are not (watching) then there is no point in responding or would say so.
Did you ever consider the option that ANet is monitoring things because the in-game economy ties directly to the longevity of the game? Heck, the fact that they employed an economist at all should tell you that.
And honestly, “manipulating” is a really weird word here. They’re the freaking developers, of course they’re expected to manipulate things. And by manipulate, I mean implementing things which will affect the prices. Hell, just doing anything to change the game is going to affect the prices. Change loot tables? Prices changed. Put in a holiday sale? Prices changed. Put in a sale on some item? Prices changed.
Hell, remember the Karka chest? That sure as heck wasn’t a mistake on their part. Ask one of the big conspiracy nuts and they’ll tell you Anet did that so that the gold sellers could buy cheap precursors that they would then sell later on for a massive amount of money, of which some goes to Anet.
Why monitor something if you are not going to do something about it…or have done something about…or is doing something about it? What John said was an open ended statement becasue he is “not allowed” to specificaly say a) or b).

Depends. The blues can just take place of “no drop”, junk and whites category, with green/rare/exotic/mats chances remaining unchanged.
In which case killing a champion will still be completely not worth it.
Indeed, and this is the question I would like answered. Are the removed categories, with respect to RNG % chance, now filled by blues, or, has the RNG % on rare/exotics now been increased?
Still, IMO, champs should drop minimum green and overall the RNG % with respect to green/blue minimum should be scaled based on the mobs level.

Firstly, thank you for the positive feedback.
However, minimum BLUE from Champs? You gotta be kittening kidding me!

See, your DR problem really begins from your 20-30th karka kill. After that you are farming too much in the same area so, by ANets definition, they make you hold hands with a DR buddy whilst continuing to roam through karka-island.
IMHO, the number of complainers about DR is insignificant in ANets opinion. We are an outliner bound by RNG, therefore we are a minority that gets crap most of the time, while the rest gets decent loot because they don’t complain.

That’s funny, because the supplies of Blood, Totems, Fangs, and Claws have all gone up. This leads me to believe that people should be experiencing an increased income. After all, they’re seeing more of these valuable commodities coming in, so they’re either saving them (and their value) or selling them.
Prices for Mystic Coins have also gone up, but the supply has remained pretty constant. Again, this would lead to higher incomes for everyone.
Prices for Ectoplasm have gone up, but the supply has remained the same or increased, so people should be making more off of selling them.
Of your three choke points, the only one I haven’t been able to get to 250 without purchasing is Blood. Ectoplasms I’m selling for money, and Dust would be well over 250 by now if I hadn’t converted for most of my lodestones. I’m not really sure why you included dust in your list of choke points, considering that it’s barely in the top half of the list if you sort by cost.
With regards to dust:
1) Needed to craft gift of magic (part of any legendary)
2) Price is constantly going up and supply plummeted drasticaly since 14th Jan
3) Low sell, high buy listings
4) Acquired mainly via Risen (or spectral weapons)
Perhaps people are hoarding large volume of these and do not wish to sell them, however, the drop rate seems to have been reduced, hence generaly speaking player will look towards TP to get it.
Also, I have considered price rise/fall since about November 2012 – when the infamous patch was added.

I think we have both misinterpreted out posts. My intention was never to imply it is not random enough. What I meant was that the RNG is based on an algorithm, which effectively makes it pseudorandom.
So as such what is the point of the statement? You are not saying it lacks enough randomness, so what – just wanted to make it clear to everyone you know a basic computer science principal or trying to undermine the concept of “random enough”?
Was my statement incorrect? NO. /FF
Furthermore, wheneve you have gotten the BSOD (blue screen of death) on your Win OP, it was spitting out RNG-based values because the computers algorithm resulted in an illogical output. Basically, the computer could not compute.
This is so incomplete/innacurate I am having trouble addressing it, I hope you do not work in the ICT industry. You really do just make kitten up for the internet in your spare time, its true.
In simple terms, computer code requires logical input which then gives logical output. Any illogical output gives a nosequential anwser, thus it can be interpreted as RNG.

Read more carefully.
I am well aware of how computer based pseudorandom generation works (and further to that how it relates to real crypto and not just games), and again will ask you – is it your opinon that pseudorandom is not random enough for use in games like GW2?
As far as a true random generation method – a lot of them use radio static, point a camera at a lava lamp, or grab cloud shadow patterns from satellite images, not a broken CPU.
I think we have both misinterpreted out posts. My intention was never to imply it is not random enough. What I meant was that the RNG is based on an algorithm, which effectively makes it pseudorandom.
The broken CPU test was the first true RNG based on logical input that gave illogical output; i.e. not a physical experiment! Furthermore, wheneve you have gotten the BSOD (blue screen of death) on your Win OP, it was spitting out RNG-based values because the computers algorithm resulted in an illogical output. Basically, the computer could not compute.
P.S. I’m still trying to find that CPU test example, but I think it had to do with overheating it.

Is your $400 budgest so stringent? For $700 you have many more options. I suggest you save up or wait for some of the parts to drop down in price.
Sorry to say but your low budget will kill your rig sooner than you would suspect. These parts are not meant for gaming and their longevity will be affected; which might mean that you will need to cough up twice the price.
Are you talking about the parts solar linked? and like what about 550
The rig he listed is decent and it is around the $700 mark. I was generalising that a gaming rig for $400 won’t last you as long as you would like it to because the parts are not designed to work hard for prolonged times.
A decent gaming rig starts at around $700-900 mark. Anyone willing to play games on a rig that costs less than that is considerably shortening the PCs life span.
Why risk it? Save up some more and getting something better and that will work more efficiently…and build for its purpose.
P.S. This is the kind of rig I would like http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/CMNm

You would be suprised what is kept in the bank. I have opened one extra slot and it is nearly full. My items range from few sigils, W3 blueprints, boosters, few exotic armor/items, wood/stone/food overgathered, some event items and then there is the wintersday/halloween stuff that needs to be stored on my alt otherwise my bank would require another extra slot at least.
There are many items that fall into the “do I sell, use or equip” category. When I was leveling up my char I had to constaly remove items from the bank slot because it was being filled up with new items. Now that my main is level80 and full set of exotic crafted armor/weapon, the bank still gets maxed out at two slots!
Now imagine 3+ characters per account. Two, even three, banks slots would not be enough. There is too much variety which causes uncertainty, thus the safest way is to put the items in the bank.
You said that it would promote hoarding. Well that may be true and perhaps its effect might mean less items would be shuffled within the economy. If this is true then one could presume that ANet is “forcing” the player to sell the item on the TP or use it up. Would this be another sink for the economy? I would suspect so.
Do not click this link!
I identify them. I could sell a few and buy all of the common ones but I would rather open up for the rare ones than buy them of the TP.
Currently I have about 10 rares – some of them are: arctic, burgundy, midnight ice and white gold.
Do not click this link!
Pre november 15th, the exchange rate was half of what it is now. I paid 6G for extra banks slots – now I would have to pay 11+G. Bank slots are not a luxury item since majority of players require more slots NOT want more slots; so why the kitten are players punished?
Yes players are becoming wealthier, however their bank balance (on overage) does not go up because the money is being used up by buying many items – which are also going up in price. So in the end the average player still has similar gold sitting in their bank account while items are going up in price – Sounds very much like inflation to me.
Do not click this link!
I really think they need to adjust lodestone drops.
Then the prices of lodestones would drop
In a virtually economy like this one, that isn’t necessarily true. Because of the ease of entry, it’s not uncommon to see an item become more common, more players receive the item naturally and enter the market, creating more demand and increasing prices instead of decreasing prices.
I had the same observation as Vol about Powerful Blood. Very interesting.
Out of curiosity, if you did want to lower the market price of an item in the game, how would you do it?
Increasing the drop rate of a popular item can increase the price, because Demand outpaces Supply. However, if Anet wanted to truly drop prices in a player controlled market, they’d have to compete directly with the players by offering the Powerful Bloods in the Gem Store.
Yep, that is one way.. To lower a price of an item, the acquisiton rate/volume needs to saturate (i.e. be past the threshold) its use. Just because something can now be obtained twice as much or fast, doesn’t necesseary imply that the price will drop.

Risk vs. Reward
This needs to be always balanced. However, how this is perceived depends on which angle it is observed from. It all comes down to statistics and distribution of data (in this case game rewards) – i.e. mean, average, outliers, confidence interval etc. The problem here is that we, the players, do not have all of the data to accurately determine whether Risk vs. Reward is balanced. We normaly take one aspect of this and try to argue its merit, however, tend to omit other things that are crucial to seeing “the bigger picture”.
Then there is the “enjoyment” factor in all of this. The risks and concurently rewards should be fun and enjoyable with respect to gaming, however, if generally this is not then it will make it unbalanced. Currently, IMO, several aspects of the game (i.e. DR/RNG/TP) are skewing the Risk vs. Reward system. How? IMO, there is too much emphasis placed on players to use TP than move around the game to gain the rewards. Whether this was deliberatre or not is another thing.
What ANet should do, IMO, is add incentive for players to not use the TP and be less “manipulated” by RNG/DR.

Went to do some more exploration and started of in the ‘Windy Cave’ minidungeon (south of Mistriven Waypoint in Lornar’s Pass). I have not been there in ageeeees. The first veteran imp dropped a friggin EXOTIC HAMMER!. Followed by few blues, no greens, and some rags. I died in the cave by accidently falling and when rewent there i suddenly started to get junk. I then finished the cave with 1 green, several blues, and half junk. When I went to anotehr area I loot was no better than a green. Not even once did I receive above green after this.
DR really needs to go. It just makes gameplay unpredictable, which results in me being forced to change areas/zones even amidst doing DE’s.

GW2’s Random Number Generator (RNG) is not completely random per say (i.e. pseudorandom), because it is based on code; an algorithm. The only true RNG, in terms of spitting out random values, is when you CPU fails and gives errors. Instead of giving zeros and ones it starts to give other numbers. I forgot what the test was but it involved physically failing the CPU so it generated errors which gave random numbers – this was a true RNG.
Did you just honestly try to say that a pseduorandom number generator as is used by GW2 lacks the randomness required for a GAME?
By the way – most true random number generators are not “broken CPU” based, do you just make kitten up for the internet in your spare time?
LOL I suggest you read into pseudorandom generators and algorithms, specifically look up the term pseudo.
Also, computers are based on logical inputs which give logical outputs depending on the parameters set in the algorithm. Have a read:
- http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/11/13/windows_random_number_gen_flawed/
Oh and here is good old wiki:
“There are two principal methods used to generate random numbers. One measures some physical phenomenon that is expected to be random and then compensates for possible biases in the measurement process. The other uses computational algorithms that can produce long sequences of apparently random results, which are in fact completely determined by a shorter initial value, known as a seed or key. The latter type are often called pseudorandom number generators.”
