It’d be better to say that if the number is evenly divisible by 5, you’ll roll for gems. 1:100 is a little bit far fetched. :P
Not as far fetched as getting a legendary weapon, thats for sure.

If you tend not to do the entire contents of each zone before progressing you may feel that your underleveled – especially when it comes to certain points in the story mode.
I would suggest doing everything in the zone and crafting before moving on to higher level zones. Also, I would suggest that you are several levels higher than the zones minimum level.
Mid range throughout my progress I was level 60 and tackling story mode at level 30-40, all because I did many zones first before moving with story.

Yeah, if you know how to upgrade components then it saves lots of money. That rig that I posted before was taken from the Dell website. Buying a base model, like you said, could nearly halve that cost if you were to upgrade it yourself – I would too
The only thing I don’t agree with you on is GeForce GTX 590 (desktop)
being better than GeForce GTX 680 (desktop). The power consumption of the 680 is roughly 70-100W lets then its counterpart. This is important because both have very similar performance results, however, due to the lower power consumption I would put the 680 above the 590. Also you’re missing the GTX 690
@SolarNova.1052
Being conservative is definitely important, especially with laptop overheating issue, I agree. I run low-mid with HD resolution and the game looks fine to me. These are my specs (ASUS N53SV):
- i7-2670QM (2.2GhZ, boots to 3.1GHz)
- Nvidia GT540M (2GB)
- 8 GB RAM
- Windows 7 Home Premium
I keep it cool by running ‘Coolermaster Notepal U3’. It allows me to place the fans on the heat dissipators.
In W3 zerg fights FPS can go down to 30-40FPS, however overall I have set it to midrange and it works fine.

I think the reason why it is taking so long is that ANet does not want to let go of their DR-kitty. We can tweak this, tweak that, change this n that, BUT WE WILL NEVER REMOVE OUR BELOVED DR KITTY!
First step would be to analyse the difference in code between pre and post November 15th patch. If there are no bugs then it was purpously implemented, thus it is working as intended.
I still think DR should completely go. It’s too buggy and has caused more grief than help. Surely ANet would have taken this into consideration – if not, shame on you (ANet) not thinking more logically about this. Unless ANet have lots of $$$ to fork out on this?

LOL, love it. Don’t forget to implement DR into this!

Right now I would love to have other ways of going for a legendary. The more I read about the current system the more it puts me off – too much RNG/DR/TP involved in this process IMO.

Realisticly speaking January update will be like a pre-patch for the february one. It will setup most of the stuff that ANet wants to implement/change.
What I would like to see?
- Fix (remove) DR
- All champs/vets should drop something and rarity dependant on level
- Make Orr more enjoyable to roam through. I don’t mind it, however, there are many that struggle and/or are annoyed by its concept/gameplay.
- Rotate W3 server colours each week

Rate/chance of precursor materials need a buff or remove DR/RNG mechanic – with RNG, remove the chance of getting nothing or garbage.
I would rather gather 5-10x more with 100% chance each time than hope that everytime I press the loot button on a fallen mob it will give me something usefull – especially considering DR is always lurking about.
This road trip needs to be shortened or give more roads to the goal. Right now, there are crucial elements that are being hampered by either the TP or RNG/DR – eg. ectos, mystic clovers.

Impossible to have a laptop for WvW on decent framerates. On the other hand, anything with a modern intel CPU with integrated GPU will at least have you play the game on lowest.
Laptops aren’t meant for gaming. Most laptop videocards are a scam. Nvidia and Ati will overheat, you can bet on that. The only ones that I found work at least half of the time, are modern intel videocards, as stupid as that may sound.
@lyeru: cores aren’t physical CPUs either. 1 CPU with 4 hyperthreaded cores will show up as 8 CPUs in windows. It’s still only a single CPU.
i) FPS is affected by the settings mind you; Resolution, AA, texture detail etc. As for you saying that laptops are not meant for gaming – as of a year or two ago, that statement is completely false.
ii) The one and biggest issue with laptops+gaming has been overheating; which has been drastically improved. All laptop GPUs are hardwired to the motherboard and the reason for having the ATI/Nvidia based GPU is that it will run on its dedicated RAM. Yes, all GPU’s heatup, however, the previous reason makes intel based GPUs inferior to ATI/Nvidia.
iii) Multicore processors contain multiple independat CPUs computng as a single unit. Intel based CPUs allow for Hyper-threading. Without going into too much detail, it basically means the operating system can see two virtual/physical cores. Therefore a Quad-core CPU has 4 physical CPUs, and due to hyperthreading you actually get 8 threads in totla. The more threads the more multitasking you can do, however, some applications do not like it when information is being moved between different cores, therefore one can set Processor (core) Affinity to one particular CPU.
Now going back to the topic
Browsing at the Alienware/Dell site I can get the following:
- Core i7- 3840QM (8M Cache, 2.8Ghz with turbo boost to 3.8 GHz)
- 32 GB Ram
- 512GB SSD + 1TB (5400RPM) HDD
- 2GB DDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M
- Windows 7 Pro
All for $5800 AUS lol. I could always save about $1500 and opt for the cheapesd HDD configuration and instead install an SSD and extra 16GB RAM myself. All in all prepare to fork out $4000-5000 for this top end beast.

I do like this game and it is a good change from all of the FPS I have done for the past 11 years. The issue I have is that some of the core elements are not being addressed efficiently. This was my gripe when I moved on to CoD – soon after I quit that overhyped kitten garbage.

This is really a probability thing that has two outcomes: Success or Closure.
The only way one can predict which outcome it will be, is based on the ammount positive vs. negative feedback, which also reflects on the sales per “time frame” (i.e. ongoing sales per month etc.)
Lets take a look at these forums now.
We cannot deny that the sheer ammount of topics relating to issues/problems within the game is starting to dwarf the positive feedback. Core issues have not been addressed and just now, from my POV, has the communication between both parties began moving in the right direction.
Only time will tell, however IMO, GW2 could be doing much better than it is right now. The next lot of updates might make or break this game – well at least for me.

I think the OP means differences other than the obvious. I remember when you would enter a town in LoZooT (Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, for those who don’t know), it would have shops closed at night and much less NPCs.
I did notice a change in the background music when it goes from night to day in GW2; or maybe its just me lol.

I hate filling my pack with 12 different tools so I have the right ones for each zone
I hate checking to make sure the node I want to harvest is listed on the tool so I don’t end up with garbage.
You DO NOT need to fill your inventory space with 12 DIFFERENT tools. Orichalcum-based tools with harvest all. At 4S it doesn’t cost much. Plus, you DO NOT need to check to make sure your tool will harvest it either.
I hate the “master” tools that don’t even list what they can harvest so I have no idea what level they’re good for.
I hate using more expensive tools on higher level nodes only to get low level carrots.
The master tool is slightly annoying, however, it has level indicator. Therefore you can go by that. Plus, how are you getting low level carrots with high level tools ON high level nodes? You buy one tool (sickle/pick/axe) that can harvest all levels. This is the convenience which costs more – well 4s is quite cheap when youre at level 80.
It really is that simple. I don’t understand what you are fuming about. Sorry.

I have a few questions.
When triggering other events, could they potentially reset the whole flow towards some of the pre-events? I ask this because it seems that the Troll event is always up and if it keeps getting triggered it may mean that it is resetting the pre-events for the Shadow Behemoth; and if the timing is right it may bug them out as well.
Another thing, wiki states that there are two NPCs involved with the champion rotting ancient oakheart – Hunter and Tracker. If this event is part of the pre-event chain for the Shadow Behemoth, then perhaps looking at those two NPC’s might shed some light to this issue?
Also, the two events Drive back the centaurs before they steal the monastery’s ale and Defeat the champion rotting ancient oakheart cannot be active, otherwise the Shadow Behemoth pre-events will not trigger. Well sounds to me like the game thinks these are constantly active for some reason, whether succeeded or failed.
Especialy this one:
Drive back the centaurs before they steal the monastery’s ale -> (Followed by) Protect the brew shipment -> (Proceeeded by) Drive back the centaurs before they steal the monastery’s ale OR (Proceeded by) Return stolen kegs of ale to Abbot Mathias
What is intersting is this part Return stolen kegs of ale to Abbot Mathias can either go to:
a) (Proceeded by) Drive back the centaurs before they steal the monastery’s ale
or
b) (Followed by) Protect the brew shipment
To me this looks like a loop depending on whether the events have failed or succeeded.

Seriously, is it so hard to have 2 of each Orichalcum-based gathering tools? You equip one of each and have spare one of each. Then you get 2 salvage kits and your total bag space used is 5.
This will last you for a while. Furthermore, how hard is it to travel back to LA and get more of the same? In the end travel cost is no more than 6-8s in both directions and by that time you would have made much more $$$.
You are level 80 and things like gathering tools and travel cost trivial ammount of money.
This is such a simple resolve lol.

Grinding for legendaries can be fun, if you can see that you are progressing towards your goal. With RNG/DR always lurking about it is too unpredictable to tell how much progress you have done.
I am temped to begin my legendary but when I look at what is required, and specificaly how to get it, I calculate the potential time needed and honestly, I would much rather spend this time doing other things.

This allows for more players, not less, to join their friends/guilds and play together; and this is a good thing.

I have observed the following with regards to anti-DR:
1) Good loot occurs within the first hour or so.
2) Going to zones not previously been to helps.
3) Frequently moving between areas/zones, however timer shorter than in 1).
4) Minimizing harvesting of nodes.
5) Not attacking the same mob constantly over a period longer than 10-15min.
6) MF has no use.
7) Attacking mobs in a group helps to a degree.
8) Changing your activities, i.e. harvesting, killing mobs, dungeons, DE’s.
9) Not taking loot instantly the moment it shows up from dead mobs.
10) Overall sporadic behaviour encouraged.

i agree with them that AoE-damage is too important in WvW right now.
most of the time you dont even have to bother with single-target stuff in bigger group-fights.
It is hard to differentiate between which target to pick in a zerg. Hence, why AoE is best suit. Some players do get drawn away from the group and then are attacked singularly, however, in group environments AoE is crucial.
AoE nerfing will just encourage more zerg rushes. Currently in W3 you can get 3 general scenarios:
1) PvP (lones walking around)
2) Group v 1 player (group/guild going for tasks and finding loners)
3) Zerg vs zerg (zerg offense vs zerg defense of POIs).
Now, AoE implementation within these scenario is:
1) Works, however, enemies can dodge away, generaly slower casting times, longer recharge rates. Nerfing would just make the player focus more on his direct attacks which might even force him to change character type.
2) If youre the loner you’ll get pwned no matter what. AoE gives you some chance to level the field. Effect of nerfing AoE in such cases…well might as well stand still and get plummed.
3) Well do I need to say more? Nerfing will just focus more on melee zerg fights. Maybe ANet want it to be like LoTR? In any case, AoE is crucial for defending large number of enemies. Likewise as an offensive weapon it can push back enemies to their starting point. Nerfing it will just focus more on melee – which will cause more havoc and which brings me back to RashanDale.3609 above quote – how are you supposed to successfully keep tracking your singular target in a zerg rush? This will make gameplay more awkward.

IMO, DR is a poorly implemented and failed attempt at anti-botting, to say the least. It is exactly like the PvP matchmaking system in CoD series.
I am speculating here, but I have only seen bots do their work on nodes, not against mobs! DR is focused on loot from mobs, not nodes. So clearly then, its implementation is not to fight mobs but to control the economy and aggro players.

I alos think there is slightly more emphais put towards sword effects than other weapons. However, each weapon should have unikittenfects that give the ‘woow’ factor and thus should not be comparable.

Sure legendary acquisition is technically optional, however, it is a major goal after reaching level 80. So realistically speaking nearly everyone will go after.
Now, I agree that end game goals should take fairly large ammounts of time to acquire but not at the current proprotion. Right now you could level all characters in the same time, if not less, than acquire a legendary.
There are several issues that make this process more boring and frustrating than rewarding. In the end one may feel like just putting a tick next to his check-list and move on not enjoying his reward as much.
Like it was pointed out previously, legendary weapons should have more lore and world exploration input. Generally speaking, right now players are focusing on the TP too much.
IMO, just as Orr was rushed to some extend so was the process of legendary acquisition. Some poor mechanics implementation IMO.
P.S. What would make this more unique, would be so that each character can only acquire ONE legendary weapon. This could have story/lore behind it and could branch of in different directions for different weapon.

Logging out to compensate for such poor behaviour is besides the point. Sure it’s a simple solution, however, clearly some players have bad manners and are just plain arrogant to greif others in such ways.

Hello Everyone,
I had an idea. Based on the following: “We (ANet) encourage you to actively explore the world of Guild Wars.’
So, why not make the precursors based on exploring GW2 world? Tasks that can potentialy deter from using the mystic forge and not hampered by relentless RNG? I know this may sound like the scavenger hunt but bare with me. Things like:
- Kill ‘x’ ammount of mobs to receive medals/trophies/scrolls.
- Gather all types of flowers/gems/paultry/etc.
- Obtain parts/rewards/items from DE bosses/dragons
- Complete quests chains to obtain rewards/scrolls/items
- Utilising many of the achievements to complete and earn rewards
All of these tasks could be less RNG oriented. These rewards could be taken to masterworkers from certain crafting disciplies or crafted using differnt recipies or chain of recipies, followed by being taken to the mystic forge to forge your legendary.
By using method that rely less on RNG/DR/Mystic Forge we could make the “grind” for a legendary more intersting and fun.
What are your thoughts and idea on this?
Cheers.

Myself and two other players took on a veteran giant in Orr. TWICE I GOT NOTHING!!!
Then here is the funny thing:
I go to Queensdale, hopeing the DE boss might come on (it didn’t mind you…still bugged after who knows how many months) and someone was looking for one more to do CM story. I thought ehhh, might as well, got spare time. I have only done 4 dungeons since I started playing, mind you, and honestly they don’t interest me much. Within 1 hour I got two rares! Well, what is interesting is the number of people suddenly speaking against AoE nerf. So, I wonder what the real reason for this nerf is? ANet, care to elaborate?

Yep, I’ve yet to see a movie where a hero does a mindless task for one and a half hours to get a weapon that he needs to slay the dragon, if you know what I mean.
Well I know one movie trilogy that spend about 9 hours trying to get rid of a special ring lol.
Too much RNG involved with this IMO. This is a deal braker for me.

I use an elementalist as well. I have build my character based on power/condition/vitality. Using superior runes of undead and trinkets (still working on maxing those) based on defense I can get really high condition damage because 5% of toughness gets converted to condition as well. ATM I have 1100 Power and 915 Condition. I generally use burn and cripple (i.e. fire and earth) and can get good stacks.
I’m still playing around with this build, however, already seeing condition damage being beneficial to my character.

Direct damage and condition damage two different offensive attributes. I would assume the AoE nerf to be based on direct damage.

If I was in ANet’s shoes, right now I would use the quickest method of getting rid of this problem. Everyone seems to suggest November 15th patch being the culprit or part thereof.
Bartas.4908 mentioned he got yellow in the forms of ‘pile of putrid something’. I can concur. Another thing as well, I do get yellow on the rare occasion (excuse the pun) and they have been, thus far, only GEMS FROM MINING!
If my memory serves me correct, since November 15th patch I have gotten two exotics in two months. Before that I got 10 in in just under two months. Hows that for statistics?

Legendary Weapons are not as legendary as they used to be. Reason? Trading Post.
People are shifting their mindset to buying precursor materials and/or weapons themself, rather than playing the game. Perhaps ANet is trying to fix this, however, the easiest and quickest route at the monent would be getting gold and converting it at the TP.
Once again with that, you have a sense of knowing how much time/effort/money you need to spend, whereas with the whole RNG/DR you feel lost and frustrated.
IMHO, all parts of the legendary should not be part of the TP. This is one end game path/goal that should not be dictated by the TP.

May I suggest we wait this out? Let ANet nerf AoE. I presume that afterwards will come more QQing than before it. This is my premonition.
ANet has decided to do this and if this will have a negative impact then it will be yet another nail in the coffin.

What some peoplee perhaps forget, in terms of W3, is the number of AoE players vs. CC. I hardly doubt that several AoE players overpower a zerg rush, in the general case.
Nerfing AoE will just make players reasses their gamestyle and focus towards CC.

AoE will get nerfed, followed by QQing going up. Then another class will get nerfed, followed by more QQing…get my drift?

@ plasmacutter.2709 Sorry, meant in my case, but yes, in general, every weapon pretty much.
@Zantetsuken.9051 Sorry, I don’t follow.
This nerfing looks to be because several instances of players, found that they can overpower zergs with AoE. This gets nerfed, then players will focus on another offensive character attribute – and watch how this will also get nerfed. In the end all ANet is doing, in general, is nerfing the gameplay as a whole. This is not the first time such a nerfing occured.
