I posted this elsewhere, but just quickly wanted to update where we stand on this issue:

We’re continuing to look into this and have a team of folks sifting through insane amounts of data based on all of your reports. This is an incredibly time intensive and unfortunately mostly manual process while we work on building tools to streamline this in more automated ways so it’s going to take a while.

We’ll update once we have more tangible information to share.

Well, I must say, we appreciate some sort of feedback.

You mentioned this process is strenuous. I have a simple solution. Remove DR coding and wait some time for the replies from players. If you don’t see an influx of happy players then we will go back to our game and not bother you with DR again.

You are trying to create an automated system that has clearly cuased issues over a long period and with that had to use many resources. Just give my idea a go. Deal?

Too much data (usually) results in missing the point.

Nerfing AoE will discourage tackling multiple enemies – it will not discipate zerg rushes. AoE is a tactic for holding off large number of enemy forces at the same time – remove this and it’s like saying to your enemy ’Here’s the key to my house.’

Overbalancing just pursues the path of conforming to a particular gameplay style. This is what playes will do if you tread that path ANet. Eventually you will get only one type of character roaming GW2 and it will boil down to having best gear that deals best DPS…did someone say ASCENDED?

Might as well remove staff weapon from Elementalist.

Just because you may get several of those Elementalists clustered, doesn’t mean you should nerf their weapon attack.

This will off balance the game more than before.

It’s not gambling just because there’s chance involved*. And you said it’s “purely gambling”, which is just wrong since there’s no chance involved in many situations at all.

0_o @ ^^^

Seriously?

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Gambling

- To bet on an uncertain outcome, as of a contest.
- To play a game of chance for stakes.
- To take a risk in the hope of gaining an advantage or a benefit.
- To put up as a stake in gambling; wager.
- An act or undertaking of uncertain outcome; a risk

GW2 is filled with gambling aspects (i.e. TP, DR, RNG, MF), and never said it is exclusively gambling – if this is how you understood it then im sorry, this was not my intention.

Just because ‘gambling’ is unanimously associated to betting money, it doesn’t mean that is where it’s definition draws the line.

I gave concrete evidence and stand by my point of view. It feels like i’m running in circles here, therefore, there is no point in discussing this further.

@Ursan.7846 I did agree with you that it is not “Purely Gambling”. However, the general use of MF attracts the gambling feature. I would beleive that, generaly speaking, players use it to progress with their legendary. Hence why the ‘gambling’ aspect.

Gambling is based on chance and varying outcome. Within GW2, there are several aspects of it that are based on chance and varying outcome. The mystic forge has, indeed, predetermined several outcomes based on the input, however, these are controled by the RNG which can produce various outcomes.

You should really read the entire wiki page before you make a statement like that. The Mystic Forge has many, many pre-set recipes with a determined, non-random outcome. Hence the Mystic Forge is not “Purely Gambling”

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge/Other_Items

And yes, I understand what gambling is, thank you very much.

Umm I know there are many predetermined combinations with one outcome, HOWEVER, there are aspects of it that when used it may produce different set of outcomes. Did you take into account my examples? (i.e. one of them being adding four rare to get a chance for an exotic)

In a general sense, the moment you put items into the mystic forge – you are gambling!

Do I really need to start giving wiki examples?

Gambling would be fun for some people, but it has a lot of negatives to it, I think we’ll probably stay away from it.

The Mystic Forge is pure gambing, isn’t it?

No, it isn’t.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_forge

Technically it is.

No it is not. “Purely gambling” would mean the mystic forge has no set recipes, and is completely random. Which is not the case. It has many many set recipes that have no element of randomness to it.

Gambling is based on chance and varying outcome. Within GW2, there are several aspects of it that are based on chance and varying outcome. The mystic forge has, indeed, predetermined several outcomes based on the input, however, these are controled by the RNG which can produce various outcomes. Here are some examples:

- Obtaining mystic clovers
- Adding 4 rares to get an exotic
- Transmutation of crafting materials

The moment your action can produce two or more outcomes is when it is considered gambling.

I’m not sure how the definition of gambling (in the context in which the subject was first broached) applies to Diminishing Returns or Trading Post speculation. And equating RNG to gambling is a bit of a stretch IMO.

Ok, gambling within the following aspects:

Diminishing Returns – We are not certain what controls this and this is the first indication that its outcome has more than one result. What we do know, however, is that spending too much time in a certain area can potentially reduce loot quality. Therefore you are gambling time for loot quality.

Trading Post – This is a simple one. Flipping! Using the TP is like a stock exchange – you are gambling by flipping between items.

RNG – Speaks for itself – RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR.

Mystic Forge – You put in 4 items to obtain something else. That something else, although has several predetermined results, varies with probability. Therefore you are gambling items to get something you want but may not get it every single time with all combinations.

You see guys, you are always gambling in GW2. You are using some thing(s) to obtain some thing(s) better, however, it (outcome) may not always work in your favour. This is why it is called gambling.

I wonder how many uses will the sickle (and assuming the other two tools) get?

Also seeing obsidian shards in there – I wonder if charged lodestones and other precursor materials will also be added?

This should be a small and VERY specific piece of code that essentially changes your coordinates on the map. If they can’t close the exploit for some reason, all they have to do is put a counter on the number of times a person teleports in a given time-frame.

They have to be able to tell when a person teleports…if not, they should be writing code to track it, which should be so DEAD SIMPLE as inserting a logging/counter call in to the teleport function, and deal with it, since they don’t, it’s obvious they want them there…period!! This should literally be a 10 minute bug fix.

With regards to this. Players can only teleport to waypoints. Any player moving from A to B, where B is not a Waypoint, can be considered exploiting the game. As you said. Tracking this by implementing a code should be simple. The entire map itself is a grid and any player not teleporting to certain markers on the grid would be deemded exploiting.

Will WvW excluded from 100% map complete

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Death Reincarnated.3570

Death Reincarnated.3570

Technically speaking, 100% map completion should be based on exploring all zones/areas within GW2 (PvE, sPvP, W3 etc.). However, what makes this a horendous task is having to play a portion of a game (W3) that is biased/chaotic/unpredictable.

The zones/areas within the PvE environment are more predictable and attainable. This makes exploring fun – unlike in the W3. The only reasonable solution would be to make the environment more attainable and static – i.e. Rotation of servers.

I agree that it should be removed IF server rotation is NOT implemented. It is a simple solution that makes both sides happy.

No, it isn’t.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_forge

Technically it is.

- http://www.thefreedictionary.com/gamble
- http://oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/gamble

All of the following have the gambling factor in it:

- Random Number Generator (RNG)
- Diminishing Returns (DR)
- Trading Post (TP)
- Mystic Forge (MF)

The people who have gotten wealthy (rich) within this game know how to “play the odds”, especially on a larger scale. They didn’t have a streak of luck, while now can take more risks to potentially gain even more profit.

IMO, it is too late for ANet to add sinks to stop this and sooner or later these people will (if not already) control the market. ANet is playing a catchup game now. The only solution would be to omit being just another statistical number of a power-trader – which would effectively mean not using the TP.

Level Scaling should be optional...

in Suggestions

Posted by: Death Reincarnated.3570

Death Reincarnated.3570

Your characters power should be measured against the hardest difficulty level of the game – not the easiest. The enemies power is capped, however, you can still adjust your gear to improve your ability to take down those high end enemies. Don’t focus how strong you can be against a lv1 weakling – focus on how quickly you can take down a lv80 vet or champion.

Level scaling is there to prevent lv80 players taking all the credit, more often than not, in low level zones specifically from low level players.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It’d be nice if rewards from running around killing stuff in the open world was as good as dungeons, but alas, not anymore.

This is what ANet are trying to fix I think. At the moment the reward system is biased based on where you get it (i.e. dungeon vs. PvE).

I still think that removing DR code would fix this issue in the most part. Players know that overall the time spent and reward is better in dungeons than in PvE, while taking into account DR. This, IMO, is putting a bias, if not actually killing, the economy.

Too much automated coding manipulaton – old school is still better!

Think of how many languages it has to be presented in, and the graphics have to be universally understandable, and for my purposes that means custom design, timing, approval. I’ve said I haven’t had time to prepare the information for a blog, though I would like to.

Why would you ruin the game and my farm spot by doing this. Were you feeling lonely? Did you need attention? Are you seeking community approval for being helpful? your not.

What’s your problem? Why would I need attention and why would I seek community approval? I was just trying to help others who don’t know about this farming spot.

The problem is by making this public in the end everyone can potentially lose out. In previous cases where something like this was posted – IT GOT NERFED!

It would be different if we didn’t have situations where ANet would not nerf such hot-spots after being made public – it would effectively help. But, because ANet is pedantic about their TP/Economy and they will nerf anything that has the potential to “upset” the balance.

Anet only nerfs spots if it was not intended. e.g the armored scale farms.

And the ‘Claw of Jormag’ event was not working as intended?

Any global notice of such hot-spots can potentially mean that more players will over-farm particular items – and this, in ANet’s eyes, is a potential loss.

This isn’t the first time a hot spot, which was working as intended, was posted on the forums and soon after nerfed.

For future reference, I would suggest (as others have) not to post such usefull information.

Sympathy for the Champion Cave Troll

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Death Reincarnated.3570

GW2 is a game wrapped with a story of heroism. Yet, we all know and love the champion cave troll of Queensdale. He quietly lives alone as a hermit with grubs in his cave at Altar’s Winding bothering no one. He is poor and under fed with only one thing in the world to cherish. An old runic rock of no value to anyone else. But every day scores of adventurers sneak into his home and STEAL his precious stone. Once he appears to confront the thieves they will throw HIS OWN stone at him, knocking him down on his kitten and setting him ablaze with magic fire.

And you wonder WHY he goes on a rampage? We then call ourselves the HERO of the story? To compound the issue, after pounding the poor creature into submission said thieving adventurers have the sheer gall to complain that he only dropped middling loot…

I tell you that we adventurers have become little more than pixilated bullies. Not a creature of this earth nor of Tyria deserves such abuse at the hands of reckless and anti-heroic youth.

I herby petition Arena Net to consider the plight of the champion cave troll. He deserves our sympathy and support for he is FAR more the HERO of this story than either you or I.

I thank you for your support in this HEROIC endeavor.

I thank thy Champion Cave Troll for thy uber XPnes, thy Karmanus, en thy cha-ching.

You need to find the right balance between grind and reward. Grinding can be fun if you know that you are aspiring to something usefull – otherwise you’re just doing it because you have to (be the best).

I seriously hope that prestiging does not mean resetting your stats or something——————————-> CoD is that way.

How ever the prestige icons are represented, they should NOT obstract the view – it’s bad enough half the screen can be filled with zergs.
