Serious question about what MF does for you

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Death Reincarnated.3570

Yep, it has worsened me as well.

I added 3 medallions of traveler (from memory that is what its called), totalling 9% MF.

So, I decided to go to Orr for a change (I hardly go there because of the obvious reasons). Here comes the fun part, in 2 hour run…

- 100+ Porous bones
- More whites than before
- Several sequences of no drops per 4-7 mobs (at one point it took me 14 mobs in a row to get a drop!)
- 3 greens
- 5 blues
- 1 rare gem

Seriosuly….

If MF works the way I think it does then it not only works as it meant to (i.e. increase chance to get rarer loot), but also increase the chance of getting crap or nothing.

It feels like it decreases some of the middle categories, which results in increasing the lowest ones at the same time.

This is beyond BS…

The voice-over and characters physical appearance in the cut-scenes don’t necessarily work well in the most part. To me it just looks slapped together so it’s there. I actually prefer and enjoy the dialouge just before you talk to an NPC which goes tot eh cutscene.

I don’t know, it all looks too static and lifeless to me in the most part. GW2 is a fantasy game, yet, I found it hard to get immersed in it during most of my personal story quest.

Stephane Lo Presti (French Community Manager),

We appreciate that (finally) an ANet representative has commited themself to reply within this thread.

Players, please don’t jump all over Stephanies post – perhaps it is one of the reasons why none have taken the courage to reply – with the obvious result observed after her post.

Anyways, with regards to concrete data. This thread was MERGED for a reason. I would strongly advise that ANet reads over it – ENTIRELY and CAREFULLY. I know it may be tedious to go go through 25 pages, however, in all honesty, the there is plenty of data provided herein.

The general concesus is that the DR tends to strike after after 1+ hours of gameplay in a particular area/zone. I was struck with it today as well. Doing several personal story sections in Orr, I ended up getting more porous bones and junk than legitimate loot.

What ever the variables are for controlling it – they need to be eased up. The strictness towards the DR is causing more harm than resolve for anit-botting. There will always be methods to over-farm particualr items withing this game, however, controlling it will tend to result in players being frustrated.

I will compile my point of view in the thread you have provided. However, as posted previously, players don’t tend to use a pen and paer to jot down their loot reuslts.

I wish for this to be resolved as much as you.

Kind Regards,

D_R

Enemies respawn too fast in my personal opinion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Death Reincarnated.3570

I just performed a test. I killed several dozens of normal open world mobs without any players in the vicinity and without any events going on. Place: Trionic Lattice in Frostgorge Sound, mob type: level 80 Arctodus. I measured when the mob was killed and when it respawned.

Respawn time varied from 20 seconds to 265 seconds. Around 20% of all respawns happened within 40 seconds of the kill and around 10% of all respawns within 20 seconds. Average respawn rate was 103 seconds.

The average respawn rate sits rather nicely in the middle of the default respawn rate of 95 – 120 seconds. However, the mobs sometimes reappeared within 20 seconds of the kill and sometimes it took them more than for minutes.

I think one of the problems lies with minimum respawn rate. 20 seconds is way below of 95 – 120 seconds default window, and I can imagine it only gets worse with other players around. Maybe the respawn algorithm on the servers is too aggresive?

This is exactly the problem I and many players have; the erratic respawn behaviour at times. What factors influence this? This Is what I would like to know. If ANet could disclose this then perhaps it would help us all out. IMO, it is not just a simple respawn timer. There must be other variables…

Lets put the next AMA questions together

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Death Reincarnated.3570

Death Reincarnated.3570

I have few:

1) A three part question. There are currently several topics within the forum that, in many players opinion, lack acknowledgement/input from Arena Net representative(s).

i) What is your opinion on that?

ii) Do ANet representatives follow threads closely, especially relating to the games core issues?

iii) Why don’t ANet representatives reply more often in the forums? Especially to topics which have been ongoing for long periods?

2) Another 3 part question relating to gem/gold and TP.

i) In your opinion, what are some of the causes for the somewhat drastically increasing gold to gem cost?

ii) Would you agree that some of game-based items such as bank/inventory slots bought for gems should not be influenced by fluctuating exchange rate? If ‘no’, then why?

iii) It was mentioned previosuly that safety nets are implemented to keep the economy functioning accordingly. Would you agree with me that to some extend it would suggest “manipulating” the TP and/or it’s affiliations?

3) With regards to the loot roulette mechanic – i.e. loot rarity. What are some of the variables that influence loot rarity? Also, is the mathematics behind as simple as landing on a specific number between 1-10? If ‘no’, what is(are) the mechanic(s) involved with determining the loot rarity obtained?

4) With regards to game expansions. Is Anet working and/or planning to release more explorable zones? If ‘yes’, can you provide some information at this time?

5) Another 3 part question. From the player’s perspective, we feel that the DR/RNG mechanics are punishing us. It was mentioned previously that ANet is continuously working to improve this.

i) Is this primarily related to the TP?

ii) If so, why is there so much emphasis placed on the TP?

iii) Would I be wrong to assume that the TP is a major means of profit for ANet?

Enemies respawn too fast in my personal opinion

Death Reincarnated.3570

The default respawn rate is 95-120 seconds, so if you’re seeing locations where they respawn much faster, please report it with specific info! Event creatures will often appear more quickly (so the event doesn’t look dead if players kill them immediately) and if players were killing things in the same area, they might respawn near you. (i.e. if a group ran through and cleared an area a minute ago, a lone player might be in the area when their respawn timer comes up.)

The problem is the respawn timer changes for that same mob with regards to killing it at differnt times.

Let me get this straight. The respawn timer on the mob(s) does not start counting down the moment you kill them? Or, It does?.

It is weird because for exmaple:

Mob A: respawn counter every 90 seconds and starts at 9:00:00am
Mob B: respawn counter every 90 seconds and starts at 9:01:00am

Kill Mob A by 8:59:50, ten seconds later it respawns while youre tackling Mob B. Kill both of them just past 9:01:00 and neither will spawn untill 9:01:30 (Mob A) and 9:02:30. By that time you turn around and see Mob A again respawn at 9:01:30 so you decide to move on.

Is this how the respawn timers work? Or the moment you kill it the timer starts ticking – because to me it sounds like the prior.

Change in loot parameters or a bug? [Merged]

Death Reincarnated.3570

I changed areas – went back to Orr and then Queensdale. Again decent loot – 2 rares this time, 5 greens and slightly more blues than whites. I have a feeling that the loot gets better where there are less players per zone or the time you spend in it. After 2 or so hours in Orr I started to get more hoofs and even nothing from mobs in a chain.

I tend to salvage high level whites and blues for rags and leather – got 2x T6 leather from a white and another from a blue. 5x T6 rags as well.

What ever the parameters are I think changing zones frequently helps to improve your DR.

I’ll let you know on my next run. I’ll try other zones I havent been to in a while – Mount Maelstrom, Dredgehaunt Cliffs and Blazeridge Steppes (is that the one with the dragon? I haven’t done him yet)

What new class…

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Death Reincarnated.3570

Death Reincarnated.3570

Class Name: Morpher
Class Type: Unknown
Weapons of choice:All

General gist/ miscellaneous:

A morpher is class type that can morph between different classes. They can morph into a warrior and deal lots of damage – a.k.a. Exo-Morph. When faced with near-death or willing to help out their comrades, they can turn into a guardian with healing and defensive power – a.k.a. Endo-Morph. For tackling enemies from afar and using their surrounding they can morph into a state between both Exo and Endo-Morph – a.k.a. Poly-Morph.

History:

They were once loyal servants of the gods. However, by obtaining free-will, in many it created desires which were beyond what gods have intended. Hence, they were forced to roam the world of Tyria. There are some testaments made by the gods that relate them to the Giganticus Lupicus’ (a.k.a. True Giants).

During their time in Tyria they tried to create their own vision of gods. As did the original gods give them free-will so have the True Giants passed it on to their own creations – the dragons. On one occasion the True Giants creations’ turned against them. Forseeing their possible mistake, however not being able to destroy their creation, they could only encapsulate them into a coma-bubble.

Decades would pass untill by the True Giants free-will and loneliness, they would awaken them with the hope that their gods would not destroy them – albeit no hope was left this time. Once again the True Giants would try to put their gods to sleep, however, by using up most of their energy to do this they would not only annihilate most of their kind, but would be incarnated into what was left of their entities energy.

Thus they are called The Morphs.

This forum is the OFFICAL LINE OF COMMUNICATIONS between players and the game. Social media sites such as twitter/FB are just that – SOCIAL. They should not be the primary medium for discussion.

The issue here is, players find lack of communication from the devs in these forums so they seek other means – i.e. FB/twitter/etc.

Sure there are some ANet representatives posting here, however, from a players perspective it’s not adequate.

Well guys, I decided to go with ANet’s motto – “Guild Wars 2 is a game about freedom. We want you to be able to explore the world and engage in a huge variety of activities, focusing on whatever best suits your tastes.” (Jon Peters)

By that, I mean explore tyria – so farm across zones, keep moving about.

Over 4-5 hours of gameplay, interstingly, the loot quality kept up on par. I did receive three rares but they weren’t weapons or armor. It was a Molten Lodestone an, Opal Orb AND A WHITE GOLD DYE (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/White_Gold_Dye). The rest was 10-13 greens, while blues and whites were quite on par.

I think that the above quote really does imply – you want decent/better loot quality, you need to keep moving about (i.e. explore). You may farm but not in the one spot.

There are, however, issues still surrounding this as JonPeters, Game Deisgner stated (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Let-s-Start-the-Karma-DR-Dialogue/page/5#post338355). It would seem that the way this is implemented takes into account how the DR cutoff works based on, perhaps, number of players in zones, time spent in zone per player and as whole. There are definitely several factors playing here…the question is what are they?

Discussion about the DR system - Merged thread

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Death Reincarnated.3570

I have been finding the moving around tactic is the most reliable though I haven’t kept a tally yet to be exact.

I usually find a very steep decline after an hour or more in the same place, though I think it’s more a # of kills in the same place because if I’m not killing quickly it seems longer before that drop off happens.

And this would seem to be the way ANet wants you to play this game. One of the game designers even said that.

The way I see it ATM is that the more you move around the better the average loot you will get. Farming is OK, however, NOT IN THE SAME SPOT OVER AND OVER.

This is the way I understand what ANet is trying to do.

Anyways the way DR is implemented is definitely a non-linear relationship. One of the variables must be time. I don’t mean time as in the roullete during loot, but time as in how many players are on in particular zone, how long you have spent moving about a particular area, and so on.

If we could find out a way…

Death Reincarnated.3570

This might come as a surprise to many people, but ANet has to cover the costs of running the servers and developing content for the game somehow. Yeah, the idea is that you’re going to use the cash shop.

But I think a lot of people confuse farming with a grind. Farming is the heart of MMORPGs, whether you’re farming mats for that weapon, getting XP to level, or anything else, the whole point and motivation to log on is that you have something to work towards, you have a goal. I don’t think you’d have too much fun if hitting level 80 only meant it’s time to make an alt and do it all over again.

The grind has different definitions depending on the person doing it, most commonly anything you have to do that you don’t want to.

Now limiting farming, the issue with that is that you can convert gold to gems. The more effective farming is, the less your credit card is needed. Remember, the whole point of GW2 to ANet is to generate an income. Since it’s F2P, that steady income needs to come from somewhere, so they look to the cash shop and limiting your ability to farm.

Yes I agree with the whole concept of making money to keep it (game) alive, however there seems to be a big shift towards making more money than making the game enjoyable. You need balance, but at the moment, it feels like its more about the money. Sooner or later major corporation/firms/groups tend to put too much focus on and strive to achieve this (money) when they smell fresh meat – and I ain’t fresh meat, I can tell you that.

For those who have problems with good loot. Can you guys change zones from the typical/usual ones you start off when you log on and see if it improves? This may provide us with good information to this isse.

If no-one from ANet is willing to provide us with such details we might as well conduct this our selves. After all Anet does encourage us to explore Tyria.

Whenever I log on, it feels to me that in the first hour or so the loot drop is quite good. Then if you keep grinding the same zone it deflates. So I change zones and its quite good again but not as long as before.

To me it feels almost like the random and instantaneous mob respawns. In some locations after the mob would be killed it would respawn straight away. I don’t know, perhaps this is similar to the loot. The rates are good in some places and timed to specific moments.

Its hard to explain this but it feels like the parameteres fluctuate/change with respect to time and the zone/area you are in. At some point they are better in one place and at another point they are better yet in another place.

It’s weird lol.

Look i’m not an unqualified fanboy here, i got issues with the game too, but seriously the game is less than 4 months old give it time.

Four months and yet some of the core issues have not been fixed. Either they don’t want to, couldn’t be kitten, can’t, or all of the above. The issue with such time frames is lack of acknowledgement. After 4 months they should, IMO, at least state something about the issue – even the typical “We’re working on it”.

I know most of you came from other games, well-established games, and i think its unfair the way people are showing lack of patience in giving Anet time to get it right. I have no doubt that they will make it right, but these thing take time.

How much time do they require with regards to CORE issues? The longer it takes to fix such things the more players will get annoyed and leave. In the end everyone loses out. I agree that the stronger the issue the more time is required to rectify it. However, acknowledgement if the issue is the first step towards a happy community – and in several topics it lacks that.

If they were to post polls for feedback from players, you would cause a commotion ingame. People that had never used the forums in their life would be on here voting for what they like or dislike.

But this is a good idea. At least then ANet would care NUMBERS to show that people are dissatisfied. This would put more pressure on them to fix the issues. Another plus would be that the players who don’t use forums would account towards better statistics. The only commotion would be in the developers offices – scrambling to fix the issues.

Instead of being upfront, ArenaNet chooses to be passive about issues that people repeatedly complain about.

I thank them for these necessary QoL improvements, but it doesn’t mean people should settle for mediocrity and most don’t. This is why you should get used to seeing such on the forums and the internet in general. Welcome to Earth, this is how we get the ball rolling down here.

If someone is passive towards you it means that either:

a) They don’t want to fix it because they feel that they are being constantly nagged.
b) Ignore you and have no respect for you or your opinion.
c) Both of the above.

I also thank them for fixing many of the issues that many players have discussed herein. However, when majority of the community sees a core issue and yet they feel nothing is done towards fixing it, it makes you think WHAT THE KITTEN is going on? This just reminds me of CoD:MW3 and the constant lack of anticheat support and no change on the silly matchmaking.

I really hope these issues will be fixed – for the sake of everyone.

Sooner or later every player that is progressing through this game will be met with farming. At such point they might tend to get interested in going along with a particular aspect of farming for the next achievement. The issue here, however, is that majority of the means to farm, and progress with the game, are met with a brick wall – i.e. DR/RNG nerfing.

I am thankful that many issue have been dealt with. However, when a core/critical issue such as the DR/RNG issue has not been properly adjusted (fixed), it makes all of the other positive changes overshadowed.

The question is then raised – Why is it that this particualr problem has not been dealt with?

If the mob respawn rate, conjestion and aggro distance was decreased it would solve the problems with Orr.

Few days ago I was taking on 3-5 mobs at once, which is what I can handle normaly, but after killing them they all instantly respawned AT THE SAME TIME! Not only this, but I was moving in a direction that had another 4 mobs. Add to this a miss-fired shot and aggroed more. I ended up taking on 8 or so mobs at once. It was hard but I was managing…UNTIL THEY CCed me for 4 seconds and decided to play ‘stacks-on’.

Hi Everyone,

Please bear with me. I know it’s a slightly long post but take the time to read it and comment.

I think the reason they (ANet devs/mods) do not want to reply in this thread is because they cannot provide an answer to us in the fullest. Instead, will we jump all over their reply like hungry hyena. I do, however, believe that simple written acknowledgement would be appropriate at this time.

A thread link posted by Navi.7142 describes a response by JonPeters and is the closest response to this issue. Below are few quotes I have rebuttled:

“Guild Wars 2 is a game about freedom. We want you to be able to explore the world and engage in a huge variety of activities, focusing on whatever best suits your tastes.”

He says the game is about playing how we want, yet the subliminal message there can be understood as – you need to do all of the things in the game and not just farm one particular thing.

“Some players have run into “diminishing returns” thresholds we put into the game to provide a safety net against unanticipated economy-breaking issues. "

‘Some players’ is an understatement. This was written 2 months ago and yet, based on this thread, it would suggest it has escalated. As for ‘unanticipated economy-breaking issues’; the reason for this is because people WILL farm one particular thing within the game and make money of it. You (ANet) are the one who added the TP to the game and made it possible to use real world currency to buy gems. Offcourse people will be inclined to try and make money out of this game!

“It would be bad for everyone if, for example, a group of players learned how to speed-clear a dungeon in 5 minutes, with full rewards each time, and then repeated that continuously.”

It doesn’t matter where or how this is done. Players will ALWAYS find a way to get “rich”. Controlling every aspect of the game to have the economy “balanced” will make it worse than to begin with.

“When one activity emerges that’s order of magnitudes more profitable than anything else in the game, it forces everyone to either engage in that activity or get priced out of the economy.”

So in other words – either have only half the people get rich while the other suffer from the RNG, or everyone suffer and look for another activity to get good profits. Wait, didn’t you say that “Guild Wars 2 is a game about freedom…”? (First quote above). It instead sounds like you are controlling our freedom.

“While we need a safety net to stop unanticipated economy-breaking exploits and botting, we have no desire to stop farming. Farmers are a part every online economy and when they are doing normal game activity they do not cause any harm. If a player finds a normal game activity fun and would like to keep doing it, that’s fine with us.”

The reason people farm is to get good returns (i.e. money or gear) off of it. You say it’s not your desire to stop this, however, based on the constant feedback by us players with regards to NERFING of MANY activities. It definitely does not sound like what you suggested. Also what do you mean by ‘normal activity’?

“Initially we have to rely on smaller data sets, instinct and some guesswork to find the correct cut-off. What this means is that some players are going to bump into the edges of these systems for a while as we get them sorted out”

You (ANet) are playing a catch-up game with your so called ECONOMY (TP). Once again you wrote this two months ago. At this stage, based on the amount of unsatisfied gamers with regards to DR/RNG, too many players are bumping into your so called “games profitable edges”. It would almost seem like, assuming that you have far more data than before, that your changes have actually negatively impacted this game rather than positively.

I still believe that ANet is putting too much emphasis on the TP and controlling it. One way to control it is to bump up the gem/coin exchange prices. The picture posted by RedBaron.6058 (http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/7231/bltc17dec2012.jpg) clearly shows what is happening in the background. Yes, I did see this before as well and made me think the same. The simplest relationship between two variables is a linear relationship, however there are too many factors within to be able to simply this into a LINEAR RELATIONSHIP. The variables are constantly fluctuating with time and having this linear relationship implemented for a longer period will actually cause a negative effect in the long term and cause other variables to get out of control (physics/manths are my strong points and statistical data analysis is something I can comprehend well)

Anyways I’m drifting off topic here. TL:DR ANet is putting too much emphasis on the TP by controlling the RNG/DR. This causes negative effect towards the general player and has been worsening.

Cheers,

D_R

One major issue I have with it is when you get into combat near the surface – camera zooms in and can’t see kitten ahead of you – This is the same near walls and plants. It feels like the enemies just cling on to you, no matter how you move.

The lastest patch notes have stated several changes that we the players discussed and I am thankfull.

There are, however, some core issues that have still not been addressed to the fullest – i.e. RNG! [21 pages with over 1000 replies and 33000 views, Change in loot parameters or a bug – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Change-in-loot-parameters-or-a-bug-Merged/page/21#post1027800]

I got a rare rampager’s hammer of debility from the champion – forgot his name. Got 1-2 crafting items from the ice elementalts. Overall I didn’t pay much attention to the mobs throughout the event.

Whenever I sell items I undercut by a decent margin. That way I can be more certain that my item(s) will sell. Although I don’t sell often. Mainly crappy loot or a rare once in a while.

@akamon

I like the snowball fighting arena. I think this was done pretty well. The JP is quite difficult and funny how people try to rush it to be the first to the end. At one point I started off as the last one in the group with regards to progression – ended up going the furtherest and just loled at the rest falling infrot of me. The timer is tad too long though.

The more people use TP for items the more the gold-to-gem price will go up and so will other things.

The only way to counter this is for, pretty much, everyone TO NO USE THE TP.

Then ANet will HAVE to adjust the way the TP operates – it will either die or make it better.

Change in loot parameters or a bug? [Merged]

Death Reincarnated.3570

Ok my 2c on the current state of this…

How is it possible that I kill 6-7 Risen in a row and get NOTHING!?

How is it possible that I join a dragon-swatting-event and get 4 blues and a green!?

How is it possible that I spend 2-3 hours killing mobs and end up getting more hooves than usefull items?

HOW IS THIS POSSBILE???!!!

Seriously it feels like every time there is an adjustment/change to the loot/RNG, we are worese off than before.

Killing a mob should yield something EACH AND EVERY KITTEN TIME! Whoever decides on the RNG parameters needs to play this game more often…

The problem with this is that you get double knocked down for several seconds while the skritt attack you. The moment you get back up you’re nearly dead so you have to run away to restore health – only then can you attack them.

This, IMO, is a bad idea – the double knock down.

Nothing better than trying to run in circles to attack the mob while hes clinging on your tail…or better yet…just have a stand off that has ‘less than 6 degreees of separation’.
