I guess I’m really confused. So, we have two threads now? One for talking about battles and WvW, and one for scores? OK, I’ll stick to this thread to talk about fights. :-)

ET, your taking of garrison in your borderlands was great about a half hour ago – had us completely on our heels, we were running around trying to figure out what to do. Congrats on getting your garrison back – for now. We’ll come back for it. xD

Although this will likely seem empty given our current success on Kaineng, all I can say is stick with it. WvW isn’t just about the points, it’s about having a good time in WvW. When we were stuck with DR for months, neither FC or Kaineng gave up – although it was rare, there were plenty of times where we smoked DR in areas. Sure, it never lasted long, but the victory feeling from (at least temporarily) crushing Goliath was priceless.

I really hope you guys reconsider. There’s fun to be had regardless of score.

Good open field fights last night – ET was using some good pincer/flank tactics in their BL near / above Arah supply camp. Good thing we outnumbered you guys then (like that’s any different from every other day, right?) or we wouldn’t have been able to push you guys from the high ground. Great job.

Offtopic – would really appreciate a mod comment as to why our Wv3 thread keeps getting deleted. Have no clue what we’re doing wrong. Talking about Wv3 on our servers in the Wv3 forums under a thread with our server names as topic seems legit.

FC and ET both seem to be in a situation that regardless of who the 3rd server they fight is, they’re going to get stomped because of pop/coverage imbalance… And there’s no tier lower for them to fight in.

Just a bad situation to be in and nothing Anet does can directly fix it for them. They can put incentives for switching to their server, which is the best they can hope for atm.

I disagree. FC and ET will acquit themselves very well against whoever moves down. The only reason the score is a blowout is, as has been stated earlier, due to numbers and coverage. I don’t think HoD or SF, whichever takes our place, has our numbers.

If anyone has taken part in the actual toe to toe fighting, they’d know how evenly matched things are on the ground. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see whichever T7 server takes our place plummets straight to #24 rather quickly.

The problem with this system is that it would match servers from three tiers (weakest of above tier, middle of tier, strongest of below tier). This would end up creating a lot of blowouts. You already have imbalances within tiers. The rating system does need to be adjusted so servers don’t get trapped in a bubble, but the system still needs to attempt to create close matches.

While I agree this would be possible, you wouldn’t be looking at the SAME blowout week after week (like we do in at least a few tiers). IMHO, stagnation is a big reason for people to quit WvW – simple boredom. Once you’re teamed against the same two opponents for weeks on end, you learn what they do and when, and how. Kinda loses its luster.

I don’t understand why the winning server doesn’t just move up while the loser moves down. That or close free server transfers. As long as those exist, populations aren’t stable enough for the current system to apply rationally.

This is an excellent idea – guarantees fresh looks at every tier every week and looks to eliminate stagnation. Nice, simple, effective.

I fully realize that it’s early in the week and anything can happen, but DR tends to get stronger as the week progresses, not weaker. According to MOS, if things continue like this, DR is on track for a jump to T5. Well done!

I should have a crystal ball… But I’ll accept a “you’re right, it IS possible for DR to hit T5 this week” from the naysayers last week. xD

The WM guys have been helpful, courteous, and an all around benefit. They absolutely did not come to our server with an elitist attitude at all, and I’m glad they’re here.

Do they change things for us? Absolutely. Ruin the server? Pffffft.

1. If you’re at a low level, there really isn’t much you can do about movement speeds. Later on, you will get access to Runes of the Centaur, and they are very good at keeping you in swiftness at all times. Early on though, it’s just Focus and Blink (Take the time now to learn how to target Blink’s maximum distance quickly! Important skill at higher level play).

If you’re just running around in PVE (and have access to the Centaur runes), a nifty trick is to use the healing mantra. With a 10sec CD, and with it working each time you cast the mantra (whether charging it or using a charge), you can have pretty much permanent swiftness without ever using a focus at all.

The only downside is if you actually need to heal – having the mantra slotted is a bit substandard when it comes to heals.

Mesmer isn’t going to give me everything I am looking for, but it is going to be the most fun to play. I’ll just use other characters to support the non-gameplay aspects of the Mesmer.

This. Mesmer might not be for anyone, but man, it sure is fun in both PvE and WvW. We may not be mobile when running point A to point B, but we’re all over the place when combat starts. :-)

I dislike being on Ferg’s sometimes. We had a HUGE run going earlier and have some new clans, but despite a rather hefty zerg with some split packs hitting supply convoys we all of a sudden got the “Outnumbered” buff and the Kaineng SoS lawnmower came plowing through the grass of my head.

Blame ET for that one. LOL For the most part, we were content just sparring in our borderlands for the night outside Bluevale – and then a nice sized ET zerg comes along and knocks on the door of our garrison. They came really close to taking it, too. We ended up rallying just about everyone on all four maps, and then that angry swarm of bees went to EB and FC BL afterward.

What a phenomenal night. Back and forth the entire time between all three servers in EB – really thought ET was going to get our garrison in our BL and FC was going to take SM in EB. Whew, those were some tough defenses!

Also, earlier, ended up in a 1v1 with a warrior (I think?) from FC on the hillside next to Bluevale supply camp in Kaineng BL – sorry, I didn’t catch the guild tag. What an excellent fight. I lost, but I swear, if he had more than 50 health, I’ll eat a shoe. LOL And classy as well – appreciate the /bow after the fight. Great job!

Come to Eredon Terrace, We have fought GoM a few weeks back and was an enjoyable fight for us at ET.

Why come to ET rather than a winning server?

We have great commanders and several guilds that work together each night coming up with new plans and tactics to put up 1 hell of a fight.

We don’t run around in mindless zergs for karma trains, instead we use tactics and takeover several things at the same time whilst distracting invaders.

To us at ET, wvw is not about the winning, but about the enjoyment and activity from it.

We have a community that listens to each other rather than argue with each other.

We may not be winning as we don’t have the population to do so yet, but when Eredon Terrace steps into WvWvW, we become 1, 1 community, 1 spirit, 1 Sword in the chest of an invader, to fight our enemies with grace and loyalty.

So come ET.

I’ll vouch for this post. ET has been really fun to compete against, and they really put up a great fight! Tonight’s matchup in EB was no exception – ET’s Keep and Medon’s were epic fights, back and forth the entire way.

These guys have it together, just need some numbers.

You’re reading the wrong column. Look at the “New Rating” column, as well as the projected rankings in the table below the one you’re looking at. DR is not likely to move up, which in my opinion is probably a good thing for right now.

Just to clarify, I wasn’t saying DR is in any position to move up this week. After next Friday, though… it looks possible?

New Rating for DR – 1321.
New Rating for Darkhaven – 1388.

Difference of around 60 points, right?

Now, looking at the deltas…

Darkhaven – (-)13

That leads me to believe that it’s possible, with that 107 point spread, for DR to overtake Darkhaven next week, if the competition remains the same.

Edit – and the projected rankings only shows how things stack up from the “New Ratings” column. It doesn’t show any new information, just a different view of the same data.

I’ve gotta be honest and say that I’m baffled with the ranking system, but according to MOS, DR is only 60 points behind Darkhaven. DR is currently at a positive 94 points, while Darkhaven is going backwards.

Seeing DR move to T5 next week seems plausible to me, given the trends that I see. Of course, NSP and AR’s play after reset could obviously influence that as well. ;-)

I’m with you on the mechanics of jumping apparently being too difficult for my simple mind to grasp. I generally don’t attack folks in the puzzles unless they have a go at me first. I like it when folks jump me, though – usually I’m so frustrated by the puzzle at that point that it’s a huge stress reliever to smoke someone. xD

Devona’s Rest for me. There’s just something fundamentally cool about knowing you can run for less than two minutes in any direction on any map and find a great fight.

Perhaps in the near future as the rankings settle out, we’ll meet up again.

Thank you for being proactive on this, Chaster! I haven’t seen this as an issue at all yet, and hopefully it will never become one thanks to your efforts.

We are looking at this match up for a few more weeks based in the current T7 scores, unless something really strange happens next week. As a player on Ferg I’m going to just focus on realistic goals, we might no win the match, but we sure will kill more of you then you of us.

This attitude is exactly why WvW will remain fun in spite of the population difference. Both FC and Kain faced a similar situation with DR stuck in T8, and we gave them hell every week. For the moment, Kain is the big fish in the little pond. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, though – if next week is similar to this week in T7, Kaineng stands a good chance of moving up then.

Unfortunately for Kaineng, though, I think it’ll be more of the same in T7. DR completely demolished on their way through. Thinking it’ll be more of the same for Kaineng – the T7 servers don’t appear to have the same hungry attitude as we do in little T8.

I’m scared of what we have become. I really miss the days of having outmanned on all the time. I play for the fight and when its hard to find them then I play less in WvW.

It is possible we might be even stronger than DR is.

I’ll reserve judgement on that one until we face them again. All kidding aside, I’m definitely not looking too far ahead at all. We have a ton of WvW’ers out now that were completely non-existent when we had the tough fights in the past – I can’t believe that our current numbers on the map are ALL transfers. It’s really great to have so many, and I’m hoping they won’t disappear again when we have an opponent that can match our numbers.

As a server, if we’re really looking to move up, we need to start learning tactics, strategy, etc. We have great commanders, but our troops need to know – instinctively – that doing things like running supplies to build siege, killing opponent siege, etc are all way more beneficial than mindlessly autoattacking a tower gate. We have a bunch of folks (myself included) who are still learning how all of this works. Right now, we have large numbers and a bunch of small groups that work well amongst themselves. We haven’t really needed more than that in T8. However, as we move up and face seasoned servers, those T8 habits are going to bite us.

TL;DR – we’ve got some work to do to be competitive at higher levels. We’ve got the heart and drive, we just need the experience.

Actually, I was thinking the exact opposite, crazy as it sounds. When FC took Mist yesterday and we were fighting to take it back, I was running supply for our siege at the inner keep. Happened to run past the north side of Mist, saw a solo guy from [Mend] on a cata shooting the north wall. Very ballsy! I stood there next to him for like 2min, cheering him on.

Don’t get overconfident. WvW is an unbalanced game as it relies on population. You can go from destroying one tier to getting crushed in the tier above it. I really doubt you guys would beat DR if you were to have a rematch next week.

There’s wisdom here. For me, though, it’s not about the points, although that’s nice. I had a blast when DR was destroying T8 and Kaineng, as a server, was stomped week in, week out. Yes, DR killed us on a regular basis, but the rare occasions (very rare lol) where a group of us could come together and smoke a bunch of DR folks were priceless. That’s the whole reason I got hooked on WvW in the first place.

There is fun to be had, regardless of what side of the scoreboard you’re on. And isn’t that the whole point of a game, anyway?

Kaineng will rip through the Tiers, and probably send many many people away from WvW forever. Just being here in ET I’ve seen so many brand new players because it’s a very empty server so lots have chosen to join it for their first. Those people are being introduced to WvW with 20v1 numbers. This will seriously just keep pushing people -away- from playing in WvW.

I started on Kaineng for exactly the reason you present here – pretty empty, no queues, etc. Not sure if you remember a few short weeks ago, we were on the crappy side of the numbers game as well. Don’t sell ET and FC short – they’ve put up some really good fights, and I don’t think either server’s spirit is broken. I spent a good 45 minutes in the Bluevale supply camp last night fighting a bunch of FC guys – had a GREAT time, really good fun.

Kaineng was T8’s doormat for awhile, but if you look at the scoring history, we’ve never just rolled over. ET and FC are showing that same fortitude right now.

You’re right that some folks are going to try out WvW, see the odds, and quit. However, you’re also going to see folks that love that challenge, love taking on Goliath and winning sometimes, and stick it out.

Kaineng is getting some influential guild transfers now, and I’m betting part of that is because, even at rock bottom, we were still chewing on DR’s and FC’s ankles. There’s a big difference between losing and being defeated. One has to do with points, the other has to do with spirit. Points don’t matter.

Here’s to hoping that we continue to see ET and FC scrapping it out like they’ve been doing lately.

T7 is very, very even right now. The sides are within 10 thousand of each other. If the system works to find the most fair match ups then I suspect Kaineng is stuck in T8 for now.

T8 is currently the most unbalanced tier out of all atm. I’m thinking the nice even matchup at T7 will be changing soon. You can’t hold us down!!! LOL

Huh, not sure what you mean by “go down that hard”. AFAIK Kaineng has always been underpopulated and at/near the bottom. We’re on our way up though!

If you’re looking for an up-and-coming server where your guild can make a real difference, help set our WvW tone, and not get lost in the mix, take a look at Kaineng. Yeah, we’re T8 atm, but that’ll change soon enough! Come be a part of the little server that could!

I would agree completely with the OP, but the signet isn’t useless imo. For a shatter build in WvW against a number of opponents, shattering can be problematic as the clones/phantasms may not live to reach the target as they run through AOE and whatnot. Without those shatters hitting, stacking confusion/vulnerability/direct dmg/etc, a shatter mesmer is kinda meh. With the refreshed shatters every 90 sec, the signet is not that bad.

Outside of that very situational use outlined above, though, the synergy just isn’t there.

Edit: Bottom line, I wouldn’t replace one of my favored utilities (decoy, blink, mirror image) with the signet, that’s for sure.

Not that I’m endorsing that type of behavior, Storm – it’s embarrassing tbh. However, Kaineng has been the whipping dog for so long that folks are getting drunk off winning. I remember how irritated I got at DR when one of their 40-man zergs killed me solo and they acted like idiots.

Nothing against DR either (there are a ton of great players on that server), but they did seem to have a fair amount of knuckleheads. C’mon, Kaineng, let’s not become “those guys”. Don’t forget our roots and what it feels like to be on the receiving end of tough odds.

ET and FC, my hat is off to you guys. This week has been fun, and the score really doesn’t indicate how tight most of the non-PvDoor fights really are.

Glad to see that good fights can still be found. Tactics and discipline make a huge difference, as those Kaineng folks who were around when we got pounded weekly by DR learned quickly. There’s nothing better than facing overwhelming odds and making the baddies pay dearly for every inch they gain!

Yeah, I’d have to agree that hitting “F” when I’m trying NOT TO DIE in a crazy fight isn’t exactly high on my priority list. I’m sure that every single loot bag that I haven’t grabbed was full of exotics.
