I’d love to be able to name my tabs.
I dunno how necessary it is to split minis off, they have their own section at the bottom already. You can minimize mats tabs if they are causing too much scrolling down when you want to look at minis.
Looks and stats are different in this game. Plus, eye of the beholder and all that. I don’t like the Grenth hood very much at all, at least partly because it has one dye field. One. How “legendary” is that? You can’t change the mask color, and the hood is all one color of your choosing.
I’m glad you love it so much. Perhaps you should get an ascended helm and put the skin on it?
As I recall during the height of the initial invasions people were posting that she seemed to pick one random person in the map out of hundreds and constantly pounce him/her. Even if they were just at a crafting table. Some used that to rally people to their side so everyone could pound on her, since they knew she’d be where they were.
So you got the lucky short straw this time, that’s all. Maybe having fewer people in the zone upped your odds of it?
So far they’ve all been 2 weeks long, and the Tower stuff seems to be lingering longer than that.
Generally if you do them in the first week they’re out, you’re guaranteed to get them finished.
If it’s someone we already knew as of that announcement, it couldn’t be Scarlet. As I predominantly play humans my mind goes to Countess Anise (though I prefer her as a Crown loyalist who will do anything to support Jennah) or Lord Faren (who could have been behind a lot of things while presenting a bumbling facade, and has a close friendship with my noble characters to boot).
However, if it’s one person who’s to be the nemesis of every single player character, it can’t be from inside the racial chapter of the PS. Which leaves Order representatives who aren’t our mentors (because there are three mentor choices), or Trahearne. The latter makes no sense at all, no stretch of his story arc turns him into a world-wrecking machiavellian.
Hopefully it will be an omigosh wow! revelation and not just Scarlet who somehow our characters knew about all these years but we did not.
Maybe it’s Palawa Joko? I’m not a GW1 player, so I’m just going on what other fans have said about how cool he was.
You should be able to do multiples, by any sane interpretation of the announcement text. They’ll tally you up Dec 31, it seems.
A dev posted in another thread that the Thanksgiving holiday pushed things back a day. The update will be tomorrow.
I don’t understand the compulsion to do every single possible daily achieve, myself. I’m willing to agree that clearly some do have that compulsion. However, asking ANet to restrict my options just so someone else has few enough options to do them all seems a tad unfair.
If there were a cap on achieve points, would it also stop the XP boost from a task completion? I’ve greatly enjoyed leveling alts by doing the daily on them, sometimes doing more than the 5 minimum simply to get the XP bar moved a bit more. Are you saying you want to cap what I can do in a day just so you don’t have to do more -every- day?
I don’t feel hostility or ire, I promise you. I just don’t think the game should be throttled down for millions of people simply to satisfy a few hundred (or a couple of thousand, even) completionists. It’s part of GW2’s design that there are multiple and variegated things to do, all of which offer advancement. You’re not -supposed- to be able to do them all!
It feels like asking for a fancy buffet dinner to be downsized to three small trays so you can actually eat everything on the table, and never mind the other patrons who might have wanted a wider variety of food to choose from in their meal. Or demanding that because you can only achieve x amount, x should be all there is because you can’t be satisfied with what you’ve done if there’s more out there. “I helped ten homeless people find shelter on a cold night. But darn it, there were ten more out there somewhere, so what I did means nothing.” “I’m running a marathon. I can only run one this year, so they’d better not have more marathons in the country besides this one.”
There have been a lot of comments about the oddness of being singled out as THE hero of that battle in Shaemoor. One person long ago suggested it was for all the villagers you direct to the inn before going to the garrison. However, these days there’s no incentive to do much of that part. No karma or xp (likely due to people farming it, and with the Wallet you bet they would). No changes to the story.
So let’s expand that part a bit. You have to find a critical mass of villagers. They get to the inn and rally into a sortie. Imagine either in-game or a cinematic of a mass of villagers brandishing pitchforks, shovels, metal bars, hoes, wooden planks …. they pour out of the inn with you at their head, beating back the centaurs and form a perimeter. Cries of bravery, of relief at reuniting with loved ones, fervent thanks to you.
A Seraph dashes up to you. “Well done! But a messenger’s come from the Garrison. The centaurs are forming up for a mass assault. If they break through, they’ll massacre these people.”
You bark “I’m on my way! Hold on here!” and then you run to the Garrison for the centaur attack and earth hands fight.
Sure, this might slow down key farming. But it would invest you much more with the villagers’ situation and when you’re called the Hero of Shaemoor, it’ll mean something.
They might be contractually obligated to link it. I hope not. DirectSong was perhaps the worst purchasing experience I’ve ever had and I got my cd’s (a week after launch rather than a month before, but by now I know how lucky I was).
Check the stickies at the top of this subforum for some very useful tips.
Which terms don’t you understand?
I had so many hats I wanted on my Thief that I got temple pieces for each one. Tricorn, monocle, hood. He can swap looks without losing stats.
I’d like other-culture-inspired armors for other races. There’s a big melting pot happening as the races band together against the dragons. Why wouldn’t there be imitations and borrowings? Plus, well, new skins, yay!
I do have to wonder how anyone but Sylvari could wear stuff they do … since it grows out of their body. But then we do have Desert Roses for all.
Custom chat channels would be exactly what is needed. Alliances seem trickier to code and manage. But just being able to make a private named channel that anyone can join if they know the name of it would help so much.
Once that’s in place, then we can worry about permissions and moderation. Or not, though I saw some custom channels in WoW get wrecked by griefers that took mod control and could not be booted. Maybe the person who creates the channel can have blocking capability?
In the Inventory Panel upper left, there is a listing of how many bag slots you have used compared to how many you have. E.g. at this moment my main is 113/154.
My concern is with how many spaces I have remaining. Sure, I can eyeball it, and I do keep packing all my stuff manually down into my lower bags so new things show up at the top. Still, I have to spend a moment doing mental math. Could we get a toggle so we can choose to show it that way? Thus my display would read 41/154. I’d know right away that I have 41 slots. A persistent setting would be best rather than having to toggle it each time I load a character (like unlocked dyes … why oh why can’t it remember that I sort by hue?).
Just a very minor QoL.
Oh, and it would be -great- to have even the used/total display in the bank. I’ve got all the tabs and when I’m looking for a spot to put something I have to scroll a lot. Sometimes I have no spots, so an indication of a full bank at the top would save time.
You get it for the meta. How many achieves are you missing from your x/y count at the upper left of the Nightmares Within achieve panel? I ask because doing the dailies for the event counts towards that, and those don’t need you in the Tower. I do not know if you will still be able to do the dailies after tonight, however (or any of the achieves). The next big patch is next week, so I’ll be surprised if the Tower keeps going other than for injections.
I have 3 keys I want to use at the top, so I’d be glad to join and help you if you are on NA (and do the Hybrid). I just need a nap first … after over a week sleeping in, getting up for work today was difficult. Ping me in game if/when you see me. Mostly likely an hour or two from now, I’m very face planty.
Any chance of posting a screenshot of it? Or saying what’s in it beyond elliptical references that assume your reader has a copy?
I mean, I know I’ll be buying gems come the Dec 10 patch for the Wintersday stuff. But should I buy them sooner to make sure?
*note I am not frothing to make sure I get my goodies. I am just intensely curious based on this cryptic thread and would like the details. Feel free to PM me if you think there’s some sort of NDA and non-gem-buyers shouldn’t be told, odd as that would be.
edit: There are other threads that contain the information. I won’t delete this post but I consider myself answered. Thanks!

I’d still want non-profession-restricted gear. My human necromancer is anti-stereotypical. She’s warm hearted, kind, law abiding, honorable, and sews all sorts of fancy stuff in vivid colors for fun. After all, the lore says Grenth followers aren’t dark broody evil types, death energy just being one more type of magic.
If suddenly necromancers HAD to wear dark somber stuff covered in skulls and dripping blood, that would wreck them for me.
So -add- armor that’s profession restricted, sure. Don’t take away what we have.
Yes, I’ve made several new characters since the change, and my CE golem is 2 glorious weeks of access when it was only 4 days at the game’s start.
What email is this? Jan 12, 2013, or Dec 1, 2013? I certainly got no email from ANet today and I’ve bought plenty of gems every month since before launch.
There are specified items coming?
I love the idea of using the PvP Tribal with the tattoos flaming! Brilliant! Even if it wouldn’t suit most (or maybe any) of my characters, I think that would be an awesome design choice.
For stuff my alts would wear, I’d want the Winged set. That is, if we -must- have currently available skins as the template. Something brand new and sexy (and equal treatment for Med and Heavy) would be so much better.
Message suppression will be a real bear for you on that one
I hope you find a way.
You could perhaps use the guild bank. The downside is that people can see the whole stockpile. But you could tell each person to look at “2nd Tab, 3rd row, 5th slot” and that they can have what’s in that spot, Happy Wintersday!
I’d love them to have wrapping paper or gift boxing or something. It works with Scarlet’s gift … sort of.
Check the Sylvari Cultural weapons, they are on the ground level of the Grove, se edge. The Warden weapons are like Dreamthistle with smaller blades and no special effects beyond just being a gorgeous deep blue.
I think the hood looks best with that outfit. The tricorn is good with longer sweeping coats because of the coachman vibe. I never like any of the nose/mouth covers, but that’s my personal aesthetic.
The hood seems more rangery, somehow, more something you’d wear out in the woods. The tricorn is for more dapper occasions. Again, my personal viewpoint only.
They aren’t removing it due to the bug, that’s clear. Nor do I believe they did it purely due to the outrage. They listen to their customers a heck of a lot more than forum posters seem to believe, but they are not controlled by them. In this case, a skin got by a reviewer who didn’t realize it was the human cultural, it got in game, the error was pointed out (via forum fervor etc) and they made the decision to recall the skin because it actually was a mistake on their part. Even if some people really appreciated the mistake and took action in reliance on it, they made the call that leaving it to stand as it was would be a bigger imposition and error than doing what they could to undo the gaffe.
Now, I do think they should be reworking the two other flame armors as well. I do like the heavy but I’ve preview-tested a lot of dyes on it and it just doesn’t blend well. Something pastels out a lot of the dye channels. If they don’t want to recall those, since they are hardly an imposition on exclusivity, they should introduce new variants along with the re-done Light so as not to create complete disparity between the weights. Preferably not reskins at all.
Dee Jay, it’s not lack of self control in some cases. It’s disposable income. I don’t change size enough to need new courtroom attire all that often, I don’t have kids, I’m not into buying all the latest fashions and goods or traveling the world, and most of my movies are NetFlix rather than in the theater. My money can sit in my bank, or I can buy fun things with it, and the fun things I choose right now happen to be in GW2.
I still have enough to help friends with rent and car repairs when they are desperate, and to eat well, so why not splurge small amounts (small for me) on my entertainment? I don’t buy every single thing the gem store has, but when something catches my eye, I am at a happy stage of life where I can afford it.
I remember the lean years, two years volunteering before I got a dime of salary in my current career, and I refuse to be a miser now.
I’ve spent more. Most of it on things I should have. Most. Twenty years ago I wouldn’t have had the means. Go go aging process!
Not by a long shot. Take away the latest ‘update’ and you are essentially left with the same exact game that existed a year ago. Expansions add permanent things. The LS ‘updates’ do not.
This. I’ve enjoyed a lot of the activities, loved some of them (so happy I can still Sanctum Sprint now and then). But if the content vanishes in a couple of weeks, the game has not truly expanded.
At the very least we should be able to go into the burned out shell of the Aether base behind the LA waterfall. Hop back in to the Dragon Bash arena. See scorch marks where sonic guns were wrecked. Etc. NPC’s should talk about the events that have happened. The world should -change-.
I’m not hopping up and down and demanding an expansion. I’m simply responding to the OP’s query. Whatever else the LS has been, however much fun it has given or whatever neat skins we’ve gotten (a lot! I love my rapier and Aether pistol, for instance), it is not an expansion.
Nope, you get tossed back to where you were, not to the door. On the other hand, using this function lets you sit next to a bank or crafting station for quick bag clearing after you step out.
I’ll go with mine on chairs (note there are some nice recent posts from several people talking about possible gem store items that become chairs of various types with poses assigned to hotkeys). I just love the screenshot I used to illustrate the issue
As ozmaniandevil notes, discovery is the key. It’s not clear from your OP that you know you can learn new recipes by using the discovery tab, mixing and matching to get variations. The bulk of your xp will come from those discoveries. If you’re only making things already in your production tab, you’ll have a long sad expensive grind.
Guides help hugely if you don’t want the thrill of figuring it out yourself.
It’s -always- that one. I think we need a sticky that solely says “Your last poi to complete the world is inside the Chantry of Secrets.”
Slight correction on getting to the dungeon — it’s good to explore to the front door, but if one member of the party is at the door and the others are in the zone (e.g. somewhere in the Plains of Ashford), everyone gets the option to enter from wherever they are. On exiting they return to their point of origin.
You can’t just buy one pack of minis, though. It’s 10 packs for 2K gems. I don’t like minis enough to feel the need to spend 2K gems on them, with Wintersday items coming I am saving gems.
They raised the price because now it is account bound. You can take your Molten Pick to the trader, make sure it’s in your bag rather than your hero panel, and exchange it for the account bound version. That way you only need one for all your alts as long as you are willing to transfer it via your bank.
If they are selling one per account rather than one per character, of course it will cost more. Even with the extra expense, you can overall spend far less on the tools with this new functionality.
(( The time difference! The sun had risen in LA. Instant jet lag — and loss of animation. ))
Yes, understood, hence the idea of painting the skull with a patch of hair to match your normal hair color.
The WoW ones are done by taking a “snapshot” from the Armory, so the purchaser makes sure to log out in the desired outfit long enough in advance for it to be in there. I’m not sure how it could be done in GW2, there being no Armory equivalent and all the dyes being highly individual to the character.
The Wintersday toys are a brilliant idea for figures. Wtb plush griffon!
And to think I was annoyed in WoW that any headpiece turned my hair into a patch of my-hair-color stuff on the back of my head. I RP’d that the hair was tucked up inside the hat …
I’d take that over bald, for sure.
Did you get crystals or stones? The stones are 25/500. Check your Recent Purchases area.
There’s no real reason to hold off on using the skin. You get 3 transmutation stones for each city completion, so 2 cities gets you a full armor transmute. You also get them for finishing zone maps, occasionally for daily completion, etc. You might want to only use them for every 10 levels worth of armor upgrade and put up with not matching now and then as you go, since you do level so quickly.
You’re not exactly changing the properties. What happens is you put the armor that looks how you want in your bags, along with the armor that has the stats you want. You double click the stone, and get a popup window with two panels. Drag the two items into the panels. Then you have three fields in each panel to click, for the skin, stats, and any upgrade item (sigl/rune/etc). Click on each one that you want, double check you are using the skin you want to keep, and then click to accept the change.
Once you are using level 80 items for either panel, you must use a crystal rather than a stone. Those are rarer (as drops) and pricier (on the Trading Post). However, you can apply any skin to any item of the same sort, even grabbing level 80 items to put on your level 1 white gear if you really want. Once applied, you must use stones or crystals depending on item level to move it to a new item.
I would love a way to filter by price. I know we can click the Price button to sort it that way. However, right now I’m going through all the dyes to see what looks good on a character, previewing each one, buying the ones below a certain silver level. If I sort by price, the same item will be listed several times, and I can’t easily track if I bought it already. I’d rather keep them in alphabetical order but with a price cap on what shows up in the search.
Alternatively, if my search were saved when I went to another TP tab, I could check my purchased items section without having to restart the whole search.
I doubt it has anything to do with your location. I’m on the US East Coast, playing NA, and I get occasional login checks as well. Since my password is saved on my personal computer here at home, and I have FiOS, it’s a couple extra seconds of my time, just click the login and boom, I’m back in the forums. They’ve even fixed it so it directs me to the forum thread I was clicking on instead of back to the main forum page.
It’s likely a safety feature to help prevent hacking. Would you rather have to do a fast login or spend several days with Support trying to retrieve your stolen account?
That functionality showed up in this patch, though it wasn’t noted in the first batch of patch notes. It’s super nice.
Zaxares has a good compromise there.
Still, that will take coding time. I can wait, I’m old enough to understand that delay is not the same as denial. Meanwhile, however, I’d sure like to have 2 more copies of the skin so I can have one of each armor weight. I have multiple RP’d alts of all three weights and I just can’t bring myself to use this beautiful skin knowing that it will then be unavailable for the other two weights.
I don’t track it but I have a guildie who occasionally comments that the Karka Queen is up and invites folks along for the fight. We’re on Tarnished Coast (NA) so maybe if you guest to TC you’ll find the events being done.
That would be something better than we have, but I still prefer the oft-suggested idea of having an armor weight filter. Your way would mean the Mesmer would have to slog through it all for the Guardian, instead of just saying “show me the Heavy!”
I’d love to have an equipable weapon filter, though, as you point out. I haven’t seen that suggested before. So long as one can still freely select any level, that part’s golden.
Argos is still down. Even without the newest armors added it was a priceless resource. I am sad to have lost it.
