Power Block and Thieves

in PvP

Posted by: Dondagora.9645

Dondagora.9645

I didn’t want to bump an old thread.

Power Block is a Mesmer GM Trait that increases the CD of interrupted skills from 5 seconds to 10 seconds. This does not work on thief weapon skills because, according to ANet, thieves don’t have CDs in the first place.

Anyway, here’s the thing, Power Block doesn’t work on thieves because ANet says thieves don’t have CD. Power Block’s tooltip says it increases the interrupted CD duration, so if it normally increase 5 to 10, then logically it should increase 0 to 5. So I see no reason this shouldn’t work this way. Thieves will get a mere 5 second CD when they usually get none? Meh, I don’t see how it would completely destroy thieves. Oh, but they lose initiative when you interrupt them in the first place, you say? Well, not always[a bug or something, they don’t lose initiative a lot of the time when they’re interrupted] and that goes for everyone[“Aw, but warriors already get a 5 second CD when they’re interrupted~” sounds ridiculous, really. Same thing for thief initiative loss when rupted, in the case that they actually lost it].

So, what’re your opinions, arguments, mesmer-hate, and thief-fanboyism you have for this topic?

PS, I don’t hate thieves, just annoyed about a trait tailored to ignore them.

Seriously this had never made any sense – the concept of a mesmer totally does not include a shield lol. Daggers are more appropriate I think… but a SHIELD??? haha I just don’t get it!

We shoot lasers through a great sword to make that work. Mesmers are all about have something that seems brutish and making it fabulous as kitten. The fact that it seems a good bit odd for a mage or scholar just makes me feel it fits mesmer more.

But, meh, I’m sure we’d prefer a MH pistol or something, but this isn’t too bad.

Celestial is little overpowered ATM.

And anet is clearly going to nerf the cele amulet amirite? /sarcasm.

And your “favourite” team just got rekt despite using celestial godlike builds( well you think they are)..as @ArrDee say : “Get good son”

-Edit-oRNG had like 2x zerker amulet?! O_O LOOOOOL, “get good son”

Oh and how many celestial builds were on the team that “rekt” them? The SAME NUMBER YOU SAY?! OH WOW how crazy!

And team with more zerkers won…it’s called personal skill something you may want to check

So celestial isn’t OP because both top teams in the finals used them? I don’t get your argument.

News so it seems I was right

No, this confirms nothing you said, and I’ll explain why:

The interviewer[Joe] asked “Will this block off any content by specializing?”
The interviewee[The Dev, forgot his name, which is probably bad] said “No, whenever you’re out of combat you can switch right back to being a ranger. So you can play as a druid or a ranger, choosing how you want to play.” This isn’t the exact quote, but close enough that it doesn’t matter.

The fact that they added that part in the end still confirms nothing, but highly implies that one will not be able to “play as a ranger” while they’re a druid, meaning the ranger’s gameplay, its mechanics and maybe more, will be blocked off when you’re a druid, and vice versa.

I feel like the devs need to be less vague, as they’re known to be, when they’re explaining how specializations work as they stick to the extremely non-specific “you can swap between the base and special, so you’re not really losing anything when you specialize”, because this is leaving a lot of room for misinterpretation.

Anyway, if you’d like to explain with rational thought why I’m wrong, please do.

New Elite:
Master of Time and Space or Time Lord
Upkeep: For every second this skill is active it gets a higher cooldown. Per second active it gets 9 seconds cooldown. Max duration: 20 seconds.
Activate your master of time and space form and change the way your skills behave.
While in this form:

  • You gain quickness every second.
  • Every utility is instant cast.
  • Your cooldowns are reduced by 33%
  • Your weapon skills hit harder and inflict slow.

Unility Set:
Phase Rift: Create a line on the ground that teleports allies 900 units in their current direction and knocks down enemies that try to cross it. 90s CD
Stop: Create a field on the ground that slows, chills and immobilizes enemies for 6s. 60s CD
Spatial Refuge: Create a field around you that follows you and teleports away enemies as they try to enter. (45s) CD
Wastrel’s Worry: Create a field on the ground that deals damage to your enemies. The damage get’s stronger the longer they stay inside. 30s CD

Shield Skills:
4.1 Phantasmal Avenger: Summon a phantasm that stores all damage you take and sends it out to your target. 20s CD
4.2 Phantasmal Avenger: Block an attack. Summon a Phantasm that will cast the attack that you blocked.
5. Vortex + Implosion: Pull all enemies towards a target location. + Push them away from the location. 30s CD

Heal Skill:
Revert Time
Heal for a good amout and all the damage you took in the last 3 seconds (condition damage and normal damage) 25s CD.

I really like “Stop”, and am thinking a skill like Spatial Refuge would be more “Time-Control”-ish if it was “Rewind”, where you create a line on the ground that teleports enemies back in the direction they’re coming from, basically reverting their progress. Or this could be combined with Phase Rift, but I feel like that might make things confusing, this massive distance between the two. I also feel like the forced teleport of Phase Rift could screw our own teammates over on points, but could be useful in Stronghold.

One potential thing I’m thinking we might see is mesmer control-tanking the supply with lockdown and more survival amulets while thieves start stealing supply with their assassin-like killing[actually living up to their name]. Mesmers might have a good time sneaking gate-breakers in too, so if everyone at the beginning chose to summon those skritt, it could become our role to smuggle them through the pass. I also feel like a combination of focus’s swiftness and blink with portal will make us extremely efficient in supply runs at the beginning.

Mesmer is easier then Ranger?

in PvP

Posted by: Dondagora.9645

Dondagora.9645

Thief is the single, undisputed, hardest class to make effective at high tier pvp. Fact.

Fixed.

If by hard you mean baiting dodges with Phantasms and then instant-cast shattering people after they don’t have anymore endurance while spamming evades and invuln as you do so is hard then it just shows how much you know.

Ranger is easier than Mesmer, but Mesmer is still pretty easy. There are harder specs in this game, specs that take real skill. Even Thief is more skill-based than Mesmer really but I guess it’s just hard to understand that just because you play a Mesmer.

The problem is the loud minorty that plays mesmer on the forum and keep repeating “mesmer is hard” in every post. The strategy of repeating lies until everyone believes in it.

It’s popular opinion. You’re thinking “Everyone else is wrong and I’m right”. I’m not saying the majority is always right, but have you ever considered that you may not be correct? Just wondering, since you don’t seem to recognize that everything here is simply an opinion, and that by saying your opinion is right makes you inherently wrong.

Anyway, my idea of mesmers is this: You either win or you lose. The mesmer’s wins can be dominating because of the playstyle, meaning either killing squishies faster with a burst, locking an opponent down with interrupts until they’re dead, or constantly punishing the opponent with conditions. Mesmer is sadistic in this way, in that if you lose to a mesmer you’re likely to think “there’s nothing I could have done”. On the other hand, this is not to say the mesmer always dominates, but only that its wins are usually dominating. If a mesmer doesn’t have control of the situation, they fall to pieces. This is where people say mesmer is hard: If you do it well enough, you’re solid, but if you mess up outside of the narrow margin of error, it is very unforgiving.
These are my thoughts, at least.

This might be mostly limiting in PvP, but I had a though: Would this let us see animations better, and therefore increase our Lockdown ability? With that, I found this slightly relevant to Mesmer and just post it here to see whether anyone has thoughts on this.

I feel like Revenant will be very close to Mesmer in its capabilities and that we may counter them as well as they counter us. We’re weak to conditions, yet have the boon-stripping to make them affected by their self conditions. They can stack stability, but we have more interrupts than most classes. Their AoE is centered around itself and linear movement while our clones and phantasms hit/shatter can hit while we kite.

I feel like Revs, who are warriors who dabbled in magic, will be a long-lost brother to the Mesmer, whose a mage that chose to dabble in weapons.

Not really. You would have to not run in and out off it, that’s all. Slick shoes have a small AoE, and Chaos Storm can daze you 3 times at the very maximum.

Mesmer F3 will apply daze 3 times. If it removes 3 stab stacks it will be op.

I think this is on purpose. Mesmers are all about control, after all, it makes sense we’d be able to do mass-stripping more easily.

I’d say more that Jalis is a stable fighter, his ability to tank giving him a solid defense and mobility. Mallyx, on the other hand, is a very offensive and risky fighter, throwing conditions on himself which cut his mobility in exchange for spreading conditions. The fact that he gets 2 seconds of Resist per utility skill is also part of his risk factor. If the player doesn’t manage their energy well, they could very well run out of fuel for their resistance and be overwhelmed by conditions.

I went slightly ahead of you Dondagora:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Screencap-of-all-Revenant-skills/first#post4815153

To summarize:

-No vigor
-No evade skills
-No instant teleport skills
-No swiftness or 25% speed increase
-No invulnerability skills
-Little to no Protection or Regeneration boon uptime
-No stealth
-No non-target leap skills (besides Unyielding Anguish which seems more situational and more of a peel, a very strong one at that)
-Very little condi removal
-Lack of stun breakers

Out of combat field mobility or combat disengage is little to none.
If they don’t get to use Unyielding Anguish for melee attackers (or use it that often), they seem great focus targets!
UA seems ridiculously strong btw!

But as I said in the post I linked, we have yet to see other Legends and weapons!

And their other 2 trait lines.

Posted by: Dondagora.9645

Dondagora.9645

They have a lighting field on a 5 second cooldown and a triple blast finisher (which also is a 410 range leap skill?). So i guess they can stack some swiftness.

Some, perhaps. Honestly forgot about that, but I believe this may be balanced given the energy cost of the field(25 Energy) given the initial 50 outside combat and is tied to a specific weapon and legend. Still, even necromancer and mesmer have “a” source of swiftness, so this in of itself isn’t too big of a setback to my hypothesis.

Edit: Actually this isn’t tied to a single weapon, since mace apparently also has a very good blast finisher. It is tied to a single legend, still, while the other is very anti-mobile with its self-conditions. Unsure how this’ll play out, but perhaps it’ll be that certain legends have certain weaknesses, such as Dwarf Stance is for mobile bunker while Demon Stance is less mobile with more aggressive melee defense.

I haven’t seen anyone mention this yet, so forgive me if it has already been posted.

The revenant clearly lacks mobility. No traits, nor weapons revealed thus far have shown it having speed boosters or swiftness or unconditional teleportation. It relies on hard/soft CC such as taunt and chill/torment to make up for this, while all its techniques are very “cleaving”, meaning centered around itself. It also has a trait which makes long-ranged attacks[beyond 600] less effective, probably another cover for its weakness of being unable to catch kiters easily.

That being said, I’m positive that there are other kittens in the armor we haven’t noticed in our, as another poster aptly put, “new toy syndrome”. Anyone else have thoughts to contribute in defeating this imminent rival before he/she[gender equality] comes into play?

There is one thing still very confusing to me about this blog post.

It sounds like the Revenant may get less customization than other classes. As per usual your first five skills are determined by your weapon, but unlike other classes they said your second five skills are determined by your legend. Are they determined only by your legend? As in, you pick a legend and get the five skills that come with it? Or will there be a selectable loadout of skills within each legend? And if so how many per legend?

I take it as you get to choose your utility with the same variety as any other class and each legend will change the affect of the utility, meaning more customization. So you get 5 types/sets of 4 utility skills each. This gives you 20 skills. The number of skills is then multiplied by each combination of Legends. This is what I believe it meant.

Read the dev posts in this thread. It is confirmed to be a static swap per legend. No choice.

They did say it is not set in stone, yet.

Here’s a completely out-of-the-world hope: a Chronomancer skill that can freeze time without interrupting anything. Like, for a brief second, we can pause the game in a certain around of effect. This could be an elite or our F4 mechanic, but I’m thinking if done in a small AoE of, lets say, 240 Radius around the mesmer it could work in a really cool way.

Another idea is a “Rewind” ability where you fear an enemy, then taunt them a second after, making them run back and forth.

I’ve been thinking up a lot of was in which Mesmer can fit into rolls. But it will be hard to say exactly where we’ll fit in and how well until Stronghold drops. This is partly because its hard to see what other classes/team comps will be present. Never the less portal will be a huge player I think, as well as reflects, and CC/interrupt. I can see stealth being very important for channeling supply because without it, a single mesmer with things like MoD and MoP (assuming damage breaks the channel) could freely chain interrupt/lockdown an enemy teams ability to access supply, all by himself.

No damage interrupts, it’s stated only Hard CC will interrupt these channels. I think this is ANet creating a niche for control-oriented specs, especially mesmers given our vast amount of dazes, to fill.

I don’t know how well their idea will work, but I’m imagining a possible 6/6/x build with CS with either or both Harmonic Mantras and traited pistol for range. With the 1200 range of the pistol and GS , it’d be possible to strip stability and deny channels from afar, and since the main point isn’t to outright kill we could probably use something like sentinel or soldier stats for survivability.

What are the possibilities, problems, or beliefs you have about our place in Stronghold?
