An NA guild has already defeated the raid boss. Please up the difficulty level, I thought these raids were supposed to make hardcore players weep after wiping for weeks and then finally give you a sense of achievement when you defeat it.

If somebody has already done it, during the limited time the raids have been available this weekend, then it’s clearly too easy and will reach farm status way too soon.

If there is Daily PvP Capturer;
enter a hot join and run to an uncapped cap point and just cap it. Ding!

Heck, if your hot join team happens to be winning, stay the match and get your Daily <class> Winner if it happens to be on the daily category. It’s hot join, there’s no stress.

2) Even if you don’t do WvW:

If there’s WvW Master of Ruins;
enter a BL and run to cap a neutral ruin point

3) Even if you dislike Fractals

If there’s Daily Fractal;
go for a lvl 1 Fractal with a group… it’s no different from a dungeon, just as short

Hehe, thanks for your answers.. Yes, I know Rurik over Jalis if you were thinking survivability wouldn’t be a tough decision. Paired those names mostly out of concern over campaign where they featured as prominent figures.

Hopefully – as you say – we get to learn more about these topics in HoT and how a revenant comes to power and awareness of which legends they can channel.

I also have a question about the revenants and the legends they can channel.

How do the Revenants “learn” to or discover how they can channel Mallyx, Shiro, Jalis, Glint and Ventari?

Can they reach into the Mists and figure out that there are certain legends they can channel, and therein induce the qualities/characteristics they will lend them when channeled? I.e. channel Shiro from the mists because you are in need of high damage, then reach into the Mists to channel Jalis in order to boost your survivability?

How do Revenants get access to this “pool” of legends – from a lore perspective? Does for example contact with some shrine or token of Jalis teach the Revenant how they can channel Jalis, or are these legends all so weaved into the very “fabric” of the Mists that all Revenants will know how to channel them? And more importantly, exclusively these?

Or could you see that a Canthan revenant instead can channel Kuunevang, Archemorus and Viktor? An Elonian revenant channeling Turai Ossa or Commander Varesh?
Or even that another Tyrian revenant lore-wise could channel Prince Rurik over Jalis? Khilbron over Mallyx?

I’d like to see an animal fur mantle, the heavy Koda shoulders cone close but think of a fur cloak which is sort of ragged and fitting in a fantasy setting, like the Gremth hood has a lengthy back to it sort of like a backpiece. I’d like this piece to be a backpiece though so you could wear it with a helmet too.

Furthermore, when you get <size> Bags of Geodes from reward chests in Dry Top, these go straight to your wallet.

How come the Spirit Shards bag need to end up in the inventory? There’s no RNG involved with the contents of these bags, just stick the 3 shards per bag directly into my wallet when I get them.

Please reduce the amount of container bags in the game – this one at least is highly redundant.

And in a huge patch that tumbles everything around, it’s maybe best not to add yet another factor to screw things up. I’m betting we might see the HoM patch in a near future patch though.

Clearly we need another 2-3000 posts and cross the 100 page mark to get Anet’s attention on this naming issue.

It’s like they’ve made great effort with all classes except the Guardian in terms of exactly this concept thing of theirs.

If it’s purely a dragonhunter due to Braham taking up Eir’s longbow and going out on a revenge quest + that big-game hunter concept; why not call us Avenger or something to broaden the use of the elite spec and not constrain us to one role, that everybody else and their grandma are also effectively doing.

We’re all hunting dragons, honestly the title would’ve been better even just as Hunter – although I guess Rangers would complain.

Remember the Pale Tree grew from the mysterious seed Ronan found in the cave guarded by terrible creatures back in Guild Wars 1. It’s highly likely this cave held many seeds seeing as the story is told that Ronan escaped with a single seed. This was planted near his family’s grave (eastern parts of Tarnished Coast) and was nurtured with the aid of Ventari to become the Pale Tree.

It’s highly likely something has become of the other seeds in that cave; one key factor being Malyck in the Sylvari personal story who doesn’t come from the Pale Tree like all the other Sylvari. Plus there could be more, but we don’t know.

But I’m hoping we’ll find out in Heart of Thorns.

OP can get a refund of the core game because he’s entitled to that, having purchased GW2 after Jan 23, 2015. Guessing this was under $10 sale offer, so that means you’ll get HoT+free core game for $50 – $10 = $40.
Then you have $10 to choose whether you want to buy an extra character slot or do whatever…

The only valid argument now is to hold out on pre-purchase if you feel you have too little information to deem if YOU subjectively feel the content of the xpac is not worth $50.

Many others DO believe the content is worth it and have now signed up – myself included now that veterans got the extra character slot added from yesterday’s pre-purchase bonus.

Stating that the xpac should be cheaper is your subjective wish and clearly not shared by a large number of players who have already opted in. It’s not just HoT but as a B2P+ game, I’m regarding this as payment+support for the next 2 years or so until we get the next expansion after that.

Anet is a company that needs money to keep developing this game; since the pre-purchase community address yesterday, I – at least – feel they are proceeding forward with decency in their effort to earn money with these pre-purchases.

You’re in every right to want more information before you opt in, but please stop with your subjective valueing of the expansion. On one hand, you’re asking for more information before you pre-purchase, but on the other hand, lacking that you’re more than willing to reduce the expansion’s value well aware that there is more to this expansion that we know so far…

Tengu – I’m all in, they should be the first race we get to play; they’re unique birdmen with a great story developed around their race, and they are already very setup for a future expansion with their own homelands, not being foes to our current players, etc.

In a future expansion to Cantha, it would be nice to play as the Wardens – seeing as they might be some “relative” of the ancient druids we’re walking in the footsteps of in Maguuma soon. The Wardens went mad with Shiro’s corruption of Echovald Forest, but seeing as the land has been cleansed by now, then if they have survived Usoku’s xenophobic rule, possibly they could be a candidate for future playable race.

I’d like to echo the concern others who have purchased the deluxe/ultimate edition expressed. One of the reasons I purchased the upgraded edition was because is came with a character slot. A second slot is really of no value to me. I think it would be nice to consider some other type of item/reward for the people that bought those editions. I’m not trying to be greedy or entitled. It just seems for those of us that were willing to buy the upgraded editions from the start an other option aside from a second character slot would be nice. Thank you for listening to my concerns.

Ask for a refund of HoT Deluxe/ultimate then, it’s not like you’re losing any progress since it’s not out… then get the standard edition. Should be easily sorted out with support, I think.

I think new players are still on the lower end of the deal though. There’s a lot they have missed out as wel as needing to pay for things that were free otherwise.

While I agree with the rest of the things you say, there’s that thing again about how veterans are lucky because they haven’t missed out.
Any late comers to a party will always miss out what’s gone before, and unless they were prevented from joining that party by the host, I just don’t feel any compassion or understanding of that.

Those new players arriving now have chosen themselves to play other games, while other veterans and me have supported Anet for the past 3 years. Saying that I have a headstart on them and shouldn’t expect any more from Anet or else be called entitled just sucks. Of course I have a headstart, I PAID for this game 3 years ago while newcomers chose not to. They played any other AAA MMO out there and are only coming now – by their own choice. I will be there to welcome them, but I’m not buying the counter arguments here that I should practically feel pity for new players joining the game because they haven’t had the chance to play the game like I had these past 3 years. The pre-purchase for GW2 was the same; announced back April 10 with no release date confirmed until mid-June or something… same for the number of features, but ofc it was the core game and we already knew a lot more and that it was worth it… subjectively speaking.

Ofc, HoT will be worth $50 for the expansion and all the work in it covering the time this game needs to develop between now and the next xpac (after LS3 or LS4)…

However – as a veteran I feel disappointed that Anet now kind of expect us to grind out another 10 USD or in-game gold worth the same just to get an extra character slot to play a central feature of HoT.

Yes, we have the same amount of char slots as new players getting the game now, but what does Anet expect… that its 3-year veterans haven’t played their game all this time? They served up a core game with 5 slots and 8 professions, and most have filled their 5 slots by now.

So… new class Revenant is released and now there’s no additional slot to play it. A new player can make 5 Revenants if they want, but most veterans will have no slot to readily play it. They essentially must pay $60 USD to do so, whereas new players pay $50.

“Just grind out the gold, it’s not a big thing” → well, for the sake of that argument, no it’s only grinding in-game, but at the current exchange rate it’s in the vicinity of 100 gold for 800 gems. Does a new player have to spend 100 gold on that? Why is the veteran player base expected to be at this disadvantage.

And having a headstart since HoT announcement to get the gold for that char slot doesn’t cut it; I still am being unfavored by Anet who thinks it’s ok that I should pay for that slot while new players get 5 free slots.

I love it that new players get the core game for free, what a grand gesture!

It’s just a pity Anet don’t pay ANY respect to its veterans who have been through thick and thin with them over the past 3 years.

So disappointing that without this char slot added to the standard edition, I’m about to pack my things.

I like the UI, but I don’t like that I cannot move all parts of the UI wherever I want. So, UI customization, yes please!

It’s probably mentioned by now in this 73-page, 3300+ post-thread, but the reason why I’m not prepurchasing until you (Anet) listen up and show your loyal veterans a little love, is:

For 50 USD new players can play the full HoT expansion.
By now, (most) veterans will have used up all their 5 char slots, and for 50 USD they CANNOT play the full HoT expansion with one of its core, new features; the Revenant. Somehow we’re forced to either buy an additional character slot for 10 USD – or be expected to grind out the gold to buy one in the gem store for gold -> gems equivalent of 10 USD. New players aren’t forced to do this.

• I have NO issues with the price tag of 50 USD for HoT.
• I believe the content looks great, the developer teams have done an excellent job and I look forward to playing the expansion.
• I think it is very great that new players get the core game for free with the expansion; it removes barriers for getting into the game.
• The whole veteran vs. new player issue is a non-issue; people are saying veterans already got their bonus by being able to play the game for 3 years. My retort is that there is NOTHING that puts me as a 3-year veteran in a different spot than a new player, this line of argument holds nothing. If I was privileged somehow and they were barred from joining back, then fine I would understand your line of reasoning, but the reason why they’re a new player now is that they have decided NOT to opt in to GW2 for 3 years. I did, and I have sunk loads of time and money into this game. Just to keep my concerns somewhat bumped… I tried this for the first time in the last closed beta, and the glider is actually not that bad. I did not get my mastery line advanced enough to see how well deployment works when you’ve really got things mastered (sic), but here’s hoping that will be even more smooth.

But for the time being, you can even run down a steep hill, jump in the air and press your deployment button to glide away if you gain enough “air” as you jump from the ground.

To some extent, yes, probably some people will stay in guild hall being AFK… but depending on size of your guild, there’s bound to be more activity in cities so naturally they will still see people being there.

Nope, I love this. Particularly because it fueled the dwindled fire of those who complained back in November 2012 about ascended gear being added and now they saw the opportunity to yet again – 3 years later – try to brew up another storm.

If you don’t have ascended gear by now you’re playing the game wrong, or you don’t care about stats. I’ve got one foot in either camp seeing as my main still isn’t decked out full ascended, ofc, it’s only a matter of choice because I’ve got all I need to do it.

Anyhow, this change was finally an incentive to get this top tier of gear.

My main issue is that a new player pays 50 USD for the HoT expansion – and I’m glad they get the core game for free – it makes total sense. However, veteran players will by now in most cases have filled all their character slots and a big part of this expansion is the new Revenant class.
For 50 USD, can you play it if all your char slots are filled with characters who you have established for a long time and don’t want to delete / lose progress on? No… you need to purchase another; and then your option is that additional slot worth 10 USD in the gem store… However you twist and turn that issue and say you could just buy it for in-game gold, you’ve still got to make the effort of earning all that gold to buy that slot, whereas the new players got 5 empty slots to go straight ahead with the Revenant.

The expansion priced at 50; just fine.
I hope the content will do that price tag justice, so far the features seem great and we’ve yet to see more stuff – e.g. another 3+ maps all with these 3 layers, more about guild features, the long-awaited challenging group content, WvW map, Stronghold, etc.

This is not about the 50 USD – and don’t throw up the argument about veterans having had the chance to play this game for 3 years which new players haven’t. I don’t give a kitten about that difference – there was absolutely NO privilege that enabled me to play GW2 for 3 years and not these new players. They could’ve been veterans, but they chose not to support GW2 back then because they’ve been playing other games and are only just coming to now. If something – which there wasn’t – was barring new players from being veterans like me 3 years ago – I’d understand this argument. But don’t accept penalising me as a veteran just because

- I HAVE supported GW2 since years before game launched
– I HAVE played in GW2 betas
– I HAVE prepurchased the core game back in April 2012

New players didn’t and for a variety of reasons I don’t care about; but they didn’t support Anet / GW2 back then, and that’s not my problem. But don’t come here and say that they haven’t had the chance to enjoy the game for 3 years like veterans have – it’s a pointless and highly annoying comparison in this discussion, and for me it boils down to veterans having to dish out 60 for something new players get for 50 dollars.
