Seafarer’s Rest | Northerner @ Dragon Season
So; since the finale of LS2, we’ve had this week-long Dragon Ball with mf bonus and Rams/envelopes; and some mini feature pack with camera angle ++ is coming (pending last-minute testing & QA).
But what else is happening in the live game? I’m certainly not feeling that the GW2: HoT hype is enough until release – a release which sounds like it’s not coming until late August at the earliest (to coincide with the 3rd anniversary).
Closed beta? Fine, if you get selected from the pool of entries, but still, testing new content that won’t matter until it gets released. Don’t want to spoil story content, etc. either until it really matters and expansion goes live. So, please… no thanks.
Open beta? Didn’t get the early (closed beta) access to test it, and sure as heck don’t want to test it now.
So… what do we get in the Live game between now and the expansion?
It’s really wearing my patience thin already; I need content in the game that I enjoy, not just watching Twitch shows and reading out-of-game articles about something coming in 5 months give or take.
Though I’m interested in knowing how much of an impact the chance of Berserker amulet for Barbarian does… while it puts you in a better spot to survive due to much higher HP, the fact that you drop 200+ power in your dps build means your burst is more like a ‘fart’ and essentially the build is broken if you don’t even have the strength of your huge burst.
Is this like a learn-to-play medi guard build?
20.585 HP from
Rune of the Traveler, Barbarian Amulet and I’m guessing either a 1-6-6-0-1 or 0-6-6-0-2
build. No, to have this HP he needs also 6 in Honor. That means 0/1/6/6/1 build. This build makes no sense to me tbh.
Umm… no, not if this build editor is up to date at least. Barbarian amulet with +932 vitality boosts you there at expense of power (~200 pts)
Here’s the 0-6-6-0-2 build – though not sure what I’d want from Virtues traits, but preferably that to putting 1 pt in Zeal.

You take it in stride and don’t whine about it; you can be angry but unless this PHD was afk (which should be reportable) there’s little you can do about team mates lacking skill.
I 1v1 all classes on my medi guard; 2k hours and my main since launch. No issues at all for the most part, even won the occasional 1v2 even; so not exactly feeling guardIan is in a bad state. And I’m no expert in sPvP (94 percentile on leaderboards, win rate 60ish)
I hoard too much, and my bank and inventory is cluttered at all times and I probably spend 50% of my time in GW2 emptying inventory or opening bags.
(but maybe I’m not alone doing just that)
Can we please have a dev acknowledge if this is at all achieveable?
To me, maining a male guardian since launch, it would be such a QoL improvement, there’s few words… having Empower and Renewed Focus look empowering (sic) rather than as I’m having irritated bowel syndrome.
Think Paragons for a good animation for male guardians, if you don’t copy the female animation to the male. Commanding pose with outstretched arms, practically yelling “Here; take this might!!!”
(btw; in no way a request for white wings like the black wings, that’s just co-incidence… Seriously; don’t want that)
Just watching a video now of Phantaram teaching him PvP… how’d Sodapoppin get the Llama Finisher already??
Because the Llama Finisher is buyable in the gem store at rank/level 1? :P
Oh, what the hell… haha, ofc it is
I was confusing it with the Mini Llama… all good then!
Thx MorDread, I’ve seen that last mastery point but not seen it in action, and I didn’t have quite that understanding of it. If it gets solved simply through masteries, that is perfect, nothing better; I even said so in the OP
If anything, make it part of the mastery…
We can discuss WoW streamers because they started streaming GW2.
No bad words about Terry Pratchett, may he rest in peace, but the GW2 forum is not really the place for the obituary posts of all our favourite authors when they have no relation to GW2.
I like this suggestion and I would also like to see in the future Anet incorporating the back pieces into the glider. Like with the new black wings we use those to glide or the ones that look like a backpack have a propeller come out so the back pieces will be more than just for show.
Yes, my thinking too. Lots of wing-themed backpiece, or how about the Molten Jetpack?
Publicity on Twitch is good for Guild Wars 2; exposure never hurts
If he’s a popular streamer he’ll probably gain the game some new players.
Just watching a video now of Phantaram teaching him PvP… how’d Sodapoppin get the Llama Finisher already??
It’s not long ago even waypoints in LA got destroyed (the one in Fort Marriner), and the threat of Mordremoth is far from removed. It was a Sylvari under his control that destroyed LA in the first place; and just a little while ago the Pact Fleet got shot down over the Maguuma Jungle…
So… with the little funds you’ve got; would you rebuild your city or ensure the threat was removed first?
Yes – I get it people want LA back, but imho it just doesn’t make sense to rebuild something that recently got destroyed when you have no guarantee it won’t be blown to bits again by the same dragon should it rise.
Yes, will wait to see player feedback from betas, at least happy to see Gaile reply to thread and we’ll see if it turns out to be an issue or not.
But at the moment it feels more like a parachute anyway, than a glider…
To avoid cases such as LA full of people gliding everywhere, Anet has already said it won’t work in other zones yet, so I’m sure they could disable them in cities anyway.
Reintroduce Capricorn with or without water; then get rid off Skyhammer, wtf likes that anyway except for bloody rank farmers. ..
O.o will they get a story on how or why they enter Tyria? Or will they be created like the old classes?
Rytlock returns from the Mists as the first Revenant and sets up a Sunday school teaching his arcane ways to an unending group of disciples.
Immediate deployment or even pre-deployment is fine with me. Mind you the problem is that ANet doesn’t want people being able to deploy just by jumping, or running over a low hill. The fall mechanic seems to have been in place because ANet only wanted it to be deployed in certain conditions. The issue with instant deployment is that programmatically how the game know the difference between falling off a high cliff or falling off a small hill?
If I understand the suggestion, I was thinking the same thing as CureForLiving here. I do a lot of jumping, up and down, and I’d not want my glider to deploy and wing me off into the air when I was trying to do a vista that required a nearly straight downward jump.
I’ve played the demo (obviously
) and I feel the deployment mechanic is really smooth. Your mileage may vary, of course, so we’ll welcome input during the beta tests.
Here’s a few links to glider demo in AA for comparison:
http://youtu.be/l9CI2hOAHfA?t=15s
(only need to watch first 10 secs to see deployment, I’ve linked to 5 secs before deploy)
(in this example; the character sprints – comparable to using swiftness in GW2 – then makes small jump and presses deployment key)
http://youtu.be/othcy-IBvjo?t=1m30s
(again, linked directly to the 10 secs of the actual deployment… this is a length tutorial on glider, quest to acquire, etc.)
Then to answers; yes, gliders in ArcheAge deployed with a hot-key, ofc you could bind it to a special double-tap so if you jumped twice in quick succession it would be interpreted as wanting to deploy the glider. But you kept it on a shortcut key for deployment.
Meant, you could for example use a swiftness skill and run down a slope with suitable “fall” make a jump into the air and deploy your glider by clicking the shortcut key.
And yes, they were like flying mounts, but judging by the HoT trailer I don’t see difference in operation.
GW2: You deploy your glider when you are in free fall and either descend to the ground somewhere, or catch an updrift stream to gain altitude and be brought up to same or higher(even?) level.
AA: You deploy your glider when you want. I could be sprinting and jump on a small rock in the middle of the desert and deploy my glider to gain a few meters altitude and glide the next 50-100 meters. Ofc, this is taken to extreme because I’d be gliding from 5 meters above ground and be back on the ground very quickly. But set in a vertical map like Heart of Maguuma, I could then deploy the glider on the edge of say the Wyvern platform for a sense of better control.
It would feel more like a flying transport that I could put to use at will rather than an emergency parachute to be deployed only when the alternative is falling to my death.
I’m sure the community will learn how to operate the glider as it is now to take them places the devs haven’t thought of.
But I just feel it’s important the glider is as versatile as possible to allow this freedom of movement that we don’t get something that you have to go like follows:
1. Ok, let’s see; I want to use my glider… I must apparently fall off this cliff for it to work.
2. Now I must wait for the interact icon to show on screen, so I know that the glider can be deployed.
3. Aha, now I can click F and deploy the glider.
The AA alternative was:
1. OK, let’s see, I want to use my glider… Press F (or similar keybind).
(1b. Hmm… I was just running on the ground and of course that wouldn’t let me deploy it; or perhaps it let me but I could only float 3-4 meters because I deployed it on top of a rock and could only glide a short distance)
(edited by Dondarrion.2748)
Don’t despair yet; the map seems huge even with its verticality. It doesn’t look like it will be like Labyrinthine Cliffs in that you have to maneuver through narrow platforms all the time. The new zone seems to be made up of 3 layers and whereas there will be platforms, it also looks like you’ll have plenty of room to move about on these without risk of falling down.
That last mastery “Powerful Leap” might look promising; and I’m only positive you get more versatility out of your glider from learning to master it better. The faster deployment seems only related to frequency of how often; similiar to the other masteries affecting gliding duration, taking advantage of updrifts, etc.
Like I said initially, aware we’ve not even got the feature yet, but just want to make sure this feature gets introduced being the best it can be.
Mind you the problem is that ANet doesn’t want people being able to deploy just by jumping, or running over a low hill.
I get that it’s your impression Anet doesn’t want that, but going with that, why wouldn’t Anet want that? What would be so terrible if people could do that in PvE?
It’s kind of symptomatic of their revised NPE which imposed so many restrictions that it’s ruined the fun for any veteran plus it doesn’t really seem that new players like it that much either. And by ‘that much’, I mean that such a revision should have immensely improved the new player experience from what it used to be like; rather than having a 50%/50% split on contentment with the NPE now among new players. That 50/50 was made up just now, but based on all threads I’ve seen here and Reddit from new players. I’d be interested to see retention rates under the new NPE compared to the old system. Besides, if it was so good… why are they removing the trait unlocks before/with GW2:HoT?
But I digress… here’s a new feature they’re adding, which could’ve be a really enjoyable feature. Easily deployable paraglider that you can deploy running downhill and making a small jump, or in hilly terrain where you can get some air to glide across a shorter span. Think Archeage in the simplicity of the glider movement and control; it was brilliant. More or less the only good thing in AA too
If it remains as we’ve seen, it’s not really a glider, it’s a chute, because you need to be in freefall to deploy it and it’ll seem more clunky than a sleek glider allowing you freedom of movement.
(last bump – apparently only me concerned about a potential new feature not being made fun)
What i really hope is one, gigantic and massive map, like ESO… make that in the new Borderland style (vertical, with traps, real choke points to control, etc) and we’ll have the best WvW in the world.
This.
Oh yes. In answer to the question, store updates will be coming out soon, but likely not today.
Again, thanks for your patience!
What are you doing up at this hour?!? :o
I’m in Brighton, England, for meetings with my EU team members. Then on to EGX Rezzed in London Thursday through Saturday.
Well that’s explained the extra U in rumor. You are probably posting from one of their machines and their spell check “fixed” it for you.
Actually, I used to live here, and for me “armour” really does have two “u’s.”
I have to consciously remove the second “u” in all sorts of words. (One of the founders of ArenaNet gently told me we needed to go with “armor” back when I first started writing website content.)
Ah, the joys of irregularities in languages… and why would both of you suddenly say governor, and on the other hand, candour, but it’s either labor or labour, favor or favour… Actually, I know, just love languages for these little crazy differences
Who cares, wrong franchise xD
Reapers or wraiths however would be awesome, a WvW map nodding its head to the Underworld, etc.
My take on NPE:
“Play the way you want to play” as long as it’s in concordance with all the unnatural barriers and hand-holding we(Anet) impose on you
Not levelling any new players until post-HoT when they’ve said trait unlocks at least will be gone again.
I KNOW we haven’t even got the feature yet; but it seems kind of tedious you need to be falling in order to deploy your glider and wait for the opportune moment to fly off.
As mentioned by MattVisual in this interview (I’ve linked the exact moment for reference in this thread), I think we already now need to make the developers aware we want the option to deploy the glider simply by running off a cliff pressing some deployment keybind at our leisure, or even running down a hill and jumping into the air and then deploying it.
Simply put; ArcheAge did one thing right, and that was the glider. Guild Wars 2, you cannot give us a suboptimal glider. If anything, make it part of the mastery that not only can you deploy the glider as an emergency when you fall (default for 1 pt invested), but at a stage you also learn to deploy the glider running downhill, e.g. at will.
Anyone else agree?
(sorry if it’s already been mentioned, did a search but couldn’t find a topic to bump)
Far too biased towards quantity of matches played though. Look at the top of the leaderboard now; hardly a person with better than 60% win rate; right now no. 24 is at 73%, rest are somewhere 48-61%, imo just ~50% the lot of them. They’re bubbling to the top simply because of quantity of matches played it seems.
In the ideal leaderboard I’d see win rate weighted higher than quantity. Imo it’s far more impressive by Kees Flodder.XXXX with 386 wins and 139 losses at 24th compared to the current no. 1 who’s at 744 wins and 771 losses.
Quantity impresses nothing, quality does.
I log after getting a good win that makes me feel good about logging off. If I lost a match, I play another to get that good win. This can go on for another match or two-three, but at least it gives me a good feeling when I log out and I want to play more the next time.
All I saw was a constant group fight at their treb. Yet their treb was up for 6 long minutes.
You didn’t necessarily lose as a result of 4v5, you lost because you apparently had 3 guys fighting OFF cap point in a completely idiotic fight for far too long. In essence, it was 4v2, rather than 4v5, when you have 3 team mates who would’ve contributed as well by having DCed too.
Race: Any male WITH a BEARD
Issue: Go through every face-covering helmet (helmets with visors of some sort), and check that the beard is not removed on equipping that helmet.
So many helmets introduced lately just remove your character’s beard, or don’t function in the same manner.
Try the medium armor version of the Glorious Helm, it shows the beard just perfectly. Now try the heavy armor version, voila, beard gone.
Please fix this, I DID create a bearded character for a reason and equipping my heavy helm doesn’t mean I shave before-hand…

Meh… I tend to support the casters/youtubers who’ve actually stuck around with the game since launch and are also covering the expansion.
Flying from game to game doing reviews that don’t really do the MMO genre justice isn’t really my cup of tea.
Sorry if I’m being too sour, but I remember OP distinctly from back before GW2 launched. It was all that, then suddenly dead and left untouched, until all of a sudden now attention again when an expansion is on the horizon…
I was going to be pedantic and point out the fact Guild Wars name doesn’t point to actual player guilds faring war at all, but see Bubi’s retort and will rather say;
When a guy sees the name “Guild Wars” he’s gonna think…
Yes, the name might imply it but is not falsely advertising anything other than being the sequel of Guild Wars (#1). Whatever ‘a guy’ is going to think when he sees something, without researching what it is, he’s solely at his own fault for not researching before potentially purchasing.
Definitive yes to account-wide recipe unlock; I’ve deleted alts I never used only to suddenly remember it had one of the recipes for crafting legendary gifts. 10g down the drain…
Seeing as I can swap between any crafting professions for a gold cost, and always have 2-3 active ones, there’s no reason why I couldn’t just unlock all recipes on one character and have it apply to my whole account.
Good suggestion, OP!
Our policy: Players may use the LFG Tool only for the formation of a group.
I’m not going to nitpick because I’m as much against the trade LFGs as everyone else but the “sellers”. But technically, that highlighted policy bit also applies to trades; because they’re essentially forming a group too…
While we’re on topic of the LFG tool; could you please forward a concern that the category “Open world content” which really should hold the LFG ads pertaining to Living World or open world story content has become a “fall-back” for everyone advertising for groups.
It’s really pointless when I see ads in “open world content” stating “P1”…
Which means nothing to me when I’m standing in Silverwastes or Dry Top looking for a group in an instance going for Breach or T6 Dry Top. That “P1” doesn’t even state which dungeon it’s for…
Can you please cleanup the LFG categories, or at least make the Advertising a bit more detailed in that you choose a category for your ad?
Regardless, I expect sylvari to freely enter Maguuma without any extra hindrances other races won’t have to deal with. It doesn’t make gameplay sense to cripple an ntire race.
Oh, but I do think the devs teasing about players ought to have a Sylvari char ready for when HoT releases points in the direction, something might occur to your character from time to time… maybe there’s a debuff that will trigger occasionally, or certain encounters will have phases where Sylvari players are “corrupted” like the branded in that beta finale event. Who knows…
Interesting question though; they have invented choppers and armored vehicles. You’d think when they have mine carts on rails, they’d also think of locomotives or vehicles to pull those?
If people are already complaining over certain boss fights and challenges now, I seriously “look forward” to the raging storms that will come when HoT launches.
You should’ve seen the Forum after the first Revamp Tequatl try, where the best Groups brought him down to 90%. He was declared impossible after the first failed attempt and the toxicity was raised to a level that even Mordremoth would’ve died from.
Yea, I remember. Then I close my eyes and picture all of those posters playing some good ol’ games back in the days of Atari/Amiga/C64/Spectrum/whatever, heck even some early PC games and still to this day. I just hope Anet remain adamant and won’t budge when the kitten storm comes with people not able to “master” the new masteries as soon as they’d like.

At the very least, give me a land spear-looking sword then, Anet
(seeing as you have scythe-looking staffs)
Until you introduce land spears as new weapon type…
In my opinion this silverwastes farm is too good, such a reward for no brain chest farm… no offense :P
Yea, like all the mindless chest farm zergs… 111111 all the way to zerg kill any mobs in the way and spend crests that you get in abundance on those bandit keys. 1100 gold without selling any of the exotics, t6 mats, etc. is pretty good given the absolutely inane/banale task the OP has undergone.
I think the actual achievement here and take-away from this thread was opening nearly 14K champ bags in 10 hours!
I hardly have 1K bags to open and it keeps growing because I dread having to open them…
Have been playing since betas, used to play top100 soloQ, 6000 PvP games…
What happens? 500 AP (indicating a new player), ‘first time PvP’ players on my teams. They die to Svanir, they triple cap points, they don’t read the chat, they don’t look at the map. Absolutely horrid experience. SoloQ was okay at times, in the current system it would be more than fine.
But no… we have to get this…
Justin, I’m begging you – do something about it. I don’t care about ratings, esports and rewards. I just want to have fun after coming back from uni and the office…
Ahh, good, it’s not just me… this latest reset of the leaderboard all my pugs have been terrible… Mind you I’ve only played 16 matches but lost 12 of them, whereas before reset I had a win rate of ~60% with around 50 matches… (yes, I’m casual player in PvP)
I am sick of carrying my team, I’m all over having to play fireman and “put out the fires” left by my team mates, but still it’s always like I’m playing 3v5 or 4v5. Luckily there’s no “PvP season” but I’ve had my share of narrow losses or horrible losses ever since the reset now and am starting to go a bit sick of being put together with horrible, new players.
I don’t mind newbies to PvP but at the very least have the decency to communicate in team chat about it and listen to strategy. When I put up a plan and 2 guys kitten, then the last 2 remain silent and go double cap close under no pressure, there’s no hope…
And by all means, Justin, please check my match log to see if my team mates have been peers rank-wise or new players… either way, they have not displayed any skill and rank-wise could very well have just been farming a hot join map so in the end rank really doesn’t mean crap…
(edited by Dondarrion.2748)
I’m just wondering; in HoT, Colin and Mike said there will be boss fights and challenges where you will fail and not succeed straight away. I sincerely hope it’ll be like the good ol’ times where you would truly be defeated at the end boss or some stage in a game and have to start over…
If people are already complaining over certain boss fights and challenges now, I seriously “look forward” to the raging storms that will come when HoT launches.
Yo mama’s so fat, she uses the Fang of the Serpent as a toothpick

It’s the extra 10 gold though… or is there a gold cost associated with the laurel vendor item too?
1:build a male human revenant
2:find nearest bank
3:grab my tomes knowledge scrolls and gear out of that bank
4:80 revenant with full exotic
5:set the preplanned skins for my revenant onto that armor
6:go to eotm and buy every single trait
7:look at my traits and weapon skills
8:pick traits
9:buy every weapon revenant can equip and sigils for each
10: log onto my ele and check out its specializations
11: log onto my alts and check their specializationsany questions?
Yes… exactly where in that do you plan to learn to play the Revenant? I just see insta-80 and 7.&8. will not go far to teach you the workings of the new class
I’ll be using an experience scroll to get my Revenant to level 20, then run around and get a feel for the character. And take it slowly from there… already got loads of 80s, don’t need an 80 Revenant running around like everybody else.
It’s my main guardian who’s going to Maguuma Jungle to learn these new Masteries.
It’s not normal, it’s just the no-hassle Anet way of giving you quick patches without long, schedule maintenance downtimes. Remember all those other MMOs with their company’s frequently saying ‘The servers are coming offline for update so and so, or for maintenance work, etc.’ and then the game is unavailable for an hour or so…
Yea, that hardly ever happens in GW2, so enjoy!
1. Which server has the most Greek Players?
2. Can I join a guild on another server?
3. Is there any way to change server for free?
1. I’ll chance a guess at Aurora Glade, based on the fact that the guild I’m with Dragon Season (DS), has a majority of Greek players. Come join us, we’re international too with people from all over Europe. Send me a PM in-game and I’ll forward it to one of our (Greek) officers.
2. Yes you can, but if they’re on a different server than you you won’t be able to do WvW with them.
3. Sometimes during WvW season breaks, Anet offer them up for free.
Don’t be upset at your opening post. You are absolutely correct. ANet could have sent you emails explaining the situation, but did not.
I don’t know why you’re not getting them, but I receive e-mails from Guild Wars 2 with every new episode launch stating
Log In Today for the Entanglement Release!
(title always reflecting the latest episode)
And in those e-mails there is always a section saying
Log In Today!
Log in while the Entanglement release is live to unlock free, permanent access to the Entanglement story content.
I don’t know how anyone can expect ArenaNet to go any further than this… after all, the ultimate decision whether to login during those two weeks is with the player. And if you cannot spare that half minute, surely 200 gems isn’t too much to ask.
Awesome fight and mechanisms, applause for Anet.
I can appreciate that some people who are not used to somewhat challenging boss fights and games requiring you to figure out a puzzle to solve a task, but seriously, this fight is not one of those obstacles.
Audio clues… Braham goes: “Boss, watch out!” when there’s AoE to watch out for and he casts “Sanctuary” to shield you on one of the fire igniting spots.
Rox goes “Here, take this” and a second later a torch enters the ring and creates a light AoE field… obviously, that’s going to help us so I’ll run into that.
Kasmeer even tells you what the Smothering Shadows will do so ofc, we hit it with fire.
The whole thing was self-explanatory – I’ve yet to die in the encounter having played it on 3-4 professions so far (all armor classes).
Like I said, more of this, Anet, please!
