Back to the OP though; like I wrote in another thread, there’s no chance LA will be built while Mordremoth is still a threat. The world’s eyes are turned on Maguuma Jungle, budgets are going into war budgets and not rebuilding cities. The Pact Fleet got annihilated and the future is uncertain. Why rebuild when you’re not sure Mordremoth will just return and destroy it once more.
First you eliminate the threat, then you can rebuild.
Colin did talk about how they are stretched thin for 3 game modes already (their reason for not wanting to add a fourth).
My solution to this would still be to axe sPvP.
Minority game mode, too separate from the other two modes, mechanics don’t transfer over well. Least amount of damage to the game, but lots of dev time (seeing how much is about sPvP) freed up.
OK… how about… no!
Failing to get landspears and becoming Paragons like we all want to :P then I’m kind of hoping for another ranged option with Pistol (rather than bow).
Sword+pistol guardian = Puritan like Solomon Kane

Guardian – Pistol – Puritan (think Solomon Kane, REH)
Guardian – Spear – Paragon (awwww, since no spears are coming just yet?…)
Ranger – Rifle – Bounty Hunter
Warrior – Sword – Duelist
Mesmer – Hammer – Shatterer
Guardian – Warhorn – Herald…?

I’m guessing LA will not be repaired until after Mordremoth is defeated (or unlikely event that we fail… :P).
Justification for that is that all focus is on Maguuma Jungle and the imminent threat of the very dragon whose “champion” (Scarlet) destroyed LA in the first place. While the threat is not gone, who would prioritise to rebuild a city from rubble then?
Add to that, the Pact Fleet just got annihilated during their assault on Maguuma Jungle.
The allies have suffered two major blows and Mordremoth doesn’t really seem weakened apart from being short of one champion (Shadow of the Dragon). Hence, all resources are going into war budgets and when our future is guaranteed to continue and Mordremoth no longer looms, then LA should begin to see reconstruction.
AND I hope it’ll be that windy, lofty city we saw in an early video in 2009 (check out WP’s videos) with airships moored to the different pillars in LA. You’d think the city realises its vulnerability from sea attacks by taking to habitats in the air and we could see this really great city reminiscent of Labyrinthine Cliffs.
My two pence anway.

Then the question becomes… what on earth do we do in between for over half a year?
It’s not like the expansion becomes a free pass to not deliver updates in between, only problem is, story-wise they’ve painted themselves into a corner seeing as HoT picks up just after Ep. 8 of LS2.
Oh, I forgot another one… what happens between now and the launch of HoT?
I mean, we were just on a long break and had one finale episode of Season 2… are we just floating adrift for X amount of months until we get the expansion?!
Do we get to see SAB return perhaps? It’s not February even yet, and the expansion is probably not due for at least another 3 months…
I never played a Sylvari up until now; but given the trailer and how the Sylvari got corrupted once the Pact Fleet assaulted the Maguuma Jungle, how does this play out for all Sylvari player characters?
Can they enter Heart of Maguuma jungle in HoT without any temporal debuffs where they struggle to retain “sanity”?
How is Anet planning to handle that the Sylvari race are suddenly under control of Mordremoth in his vicinity, but thousands of Sylvari PCs manage to withstand him?
With a reference to some musings in this old article on ZAM (see quote below and note its date; this was waay back in 2013!), how is it intended that Sylvari go on as playable race until Mordremoth is defeated and hopefully the Sylvari are free of its control?
MattstaNinjaOn to the game design reason for why Sylvari are not minions of a dragon. ArenaNet has constantly said that they never planned to let players play the evil side, that the player would be the hero who saved the day. To this end they did it perfectly, even having an evil faction of each race (Nightmare Court, Inquest, Sons of Svanir, Flame Legion/Renegades, and Bandits/Separatists) to contrast the player’s light against their darkness. To this end turning around and saying that the true origin of the Sylvari is actually as minions of an evil Elder Dragon, would ruin that heroic outlook. The Nightmare is a constant threat when everyone thinks Ventari’s Tablet is the way to be. If it is then said that the tablet is lies, tricking a race from its roots, it would weaken the resolve to resist the Nightmare, lead many Sylvari to turn away from the Pale Tree and would, in essence, be making the race fundamentally evil and the opposite of the heroic race they are designed to be. It would be an interesting plot twist, but would ruin Sylvari as a playable race.
Questions I want answered.
Given only one specialisation per character right now
Won’t this just make everyone get the same specialisation and we won’t see any diversity because everyone goes down the same route because there’s only one? Wouldn’t it be much more fun if the xpac went live with 2-3 specialisations per profession so that you might see each profession diversify?
Masteries
You spend time in the jungle and learn to master new skills to use only in the jungle? If I climb to the top of the mountains in the Shiverpeaks; can I use my hanggliding skill there? Are there plans to include that?
Again; will all these masteries be possible to acquire or are some mutually exclusive? I.e. go down one route and you won’t get another?
New weapon types
It seems someone talked to Colin after the PAX South announcement and polearms were pretty much refuted and won’t come with the xpac… is that so?
Claim a guild hall
Will these be limited commodity or open to all guilds given they got enough resources? I just rode the trainwreck of a rollercoaster that was ArcheAge and it was done so messy with its housing situation, that a competitive mechanism for guild hall claims is seriously going to insense me. Please confirm whether guild halls can be claimed by any guild meeting the minimum requirements (enough influence, merits, etc. etc.)
Other than that, the hype is still very much alive and real in this one – can’t wait for HoT to launch!
Oh yeah… when?
Given that Trahearne is the first Firstborn, he is born early during the first Cycle of Dusk, and then you have Kahedins ‘born as the sun set on the first day of our race’ possibly making him the second of the Firstborn, followed by the remaining Firstborn of Dusk, Faolain.
That order might explain Kahedins as tender of newborn Sylvari, seeing as he’d be the first of the Luminaries too following this logic?
That is; if all 12 Firstborn were indeed born on the same day – which could be the case seeing as Konig des Todes’ reference about the 1-per-cycle doesn’t seem to be part of the Anet lore bible (ref. Bobby Stein questioning the reference).
The twelve firstborn, 3 to each cycle, is there a chance they could’ve been born every 2nd hour during that first day?
That way you’d still have 4 luminaries (the 4 who woke first in each cycle – apart from Trahearne who seemingly is the absolute firstborn but somehow isn’t a luminary)?
There was an old discussion on the gw2guru forum about the Dream and Nightmare blog post Anet wrote during the racial focus features; where people were questioning the day’s split in cycles and Ree (via Regina) commented on some players feedback that instead of a strict 6-hour separation of a day for the hours 00 – 24, it made more sense to think of the cycles as going from 9pm-3am; 3am-9am; 9am-3pm and 3pm-9pm, thus placing midnight, “dawn” (6am), midday and dusk (“6pm”) in the middle of each cycle?
To save you the googling, here’s that exact comment…
How is a Sylvari born at 12:30 am anywhere near dawn? While a Sylvari born at 7 am, which may be before dawn depending on time of year, becomes a Sylvari of Noon.
Why not break things up at 9/3/9/3? It would make more sense.
3 am – 9 am Cycle of Dawn (covers the range of times for dawn)
9 am – 3 pm Cycle of Noon (the three hours on either side of noon)
3 pm – 9 pm Cycle of Dusk (covers the range of times for sunset)
9 pm – 3 am Cycle of Night (the three hours on either side of midnight)
This is contrary to what the wiki states on the entry for Cycle
Ree wrote as much back in 2011 to support the notion that the cycles varied with time of day with the seasons;
The twelve Firstborn were divided among the cycles, three to each cycle. I think you have nine of their names so far. I’ll also note for the record that yes, Caithe is Night; Faolain is of the Cycle of Dusk. The am-pm turning of the hours mentioned in my post are less hard-set than they appear in the article. Rodinia & the others commenting on this are correct in that there’s fluctuation in the precise ‘clock hour’ between the cycles at any given time (or during Tyria’s seasons).

Already got so many 80s, why should I rush a new profession where I’d rather take my time to learn it from the ground up…
Definitely; I’m already tossing money at the screen…
And face it; GW2 is B2P and expansions will always be paid; just like GW1 and other B2P games with substantial DLCs.
I would like to agree with you, but I have to say, that while the game is called “Guild Wars 2”…
The name of the game refers to the old guild wars in the lore, it doesn’t refer to player guilds at all.
That said though, I’d love guild halls and the chance to forge alliances between guilds, do GvG, etc etc
OK, what about there only remaining one Mursaat? How’d he (assuming the one in the trailer is indeed the Mursaat Lazarus the Dire) procreate? And more importantly; procreate enough to make them eligible as playable race?
Also; what other factors play a role in protecting the Sylvari from the influence of Mordremoth than the Pale Tree. Is it the work of her or the Dream of Dreams; of which the Pale Tree is only a custodian and even unaware of its exact nature and origins – so might there be yet another entity behind the scene here battling for control of the Sylvari?
lordkrall – yes, they share a connection through the Dream of Dreams prior to awakening where experiences of Sylvari are pooled. And the Pale Tree apparently has some connection to all her Sylvari children; but they have the capacity of individual behaviour and thought – one must assume seeing as they’re a playable race.
Now that the Pale Tree is weakened, and the Sylvari are closer than ever to Mordremoth – as the Pact launches its assault – maybe that connection from the Pale Tree to her children is exploited by Mordremoth to mass influence those present?
One thing though; everyone’s already saying Sylvari are dragon minions, but so far there’s two statements we’ve seen. One is Angel McCoy stating the Sylvari’s origins were in since long before launch, and the only statement in game is Wynne’s comment to Caithe “We are meant to serve the jungle dragon”.
Isn’kitten bit of stretch to say that just because they’re meant to serve the dragon equates the Sylvari race to be dragon minions?
I’d say there’s a semantic difference and that there are aspects here that differentiates them from other dragon minions like the Icebrood, Risen and Destroyers. I think this development is cool; I look forward to seeing how the story develops further! Caithe obviously has a mission with this egg to save her race; will it usurp Mordremoth and give the Sylvari a good-natured master?
With all these people rushing their pitchforks to torch the Sylvari, I’m taking my Human and Norn characters to lend the Sylvari my strength with the news of this. Clearly, protected by the Pale Tree, the Sylvari have the option to be good-natured like we know them. The betrayers are only those losing control to Mordremoth now that the Pale Tree is weakened.
To turn on your comrades in their hour of need ONLY speaks volumes of your own (lack of) character. My characters will be happy to dispatch those seeking to turn on Sylvari who are yet not under Mordremoth’s control. Those who are now corrupted, we must save somehow… and I bet it involves Caithe and the Egg
Caithe has a dragon egg in her possession. She knows Mordremoth gradually wins over more and more of her Sylvari race. Don’t you think she’s got a plan involving hatching Glint’s offspring and having it take the seat of power that will become vacant when we defeat Mordremoth and hopefully having a good-natured dragon become the new master of the Sylvari race?
No trial for Caithe; I mean, what the heck were we – the player character – going to do with it again anyway?
Make an omelette? Toss it at Mordremoth?
Likewise. I treat sylvari like everyone else. They do right by me, I do right by them. They attempt to stab me, I shoot them in the face with my arrows.
Yep, nothing different between Evil Sylvari and Asura Inquest… just because some of them are evil doesn’t mean you take it out on the whole race (even if I’d like to smother every little Asura due to their annoying arrogance :P)
Remember Kekai Kotaki’s concept artwork of Evil Sylvari ? Those might come in handy to portray the change of Sylvari losing control to Mordremoth now perhaps?
Not just alteration in mind but getting all viny (sic) and thorny and stuff as their physical appearance changes under their corruption?
Ditto.

That’s RNG for you in a nutshell. Meanwhile some people have played since launch for several thousand hours and never had one.
RNG… thy name is Satan… or Abaddon, if you will.
I mainly play Human or Norn characters, and in light of these news, I will stand side by side with any Sylvari who tries to defy the control of Mordremoth. They’ve been successful while the Pale Tree somehow protected them and have shown themselves as worthy allies all this time.
The moment they’re suddenly in trouble, we turn on them? I will be so godkitten angry if my character doesn’t take the side of Canach now, I demand that my character at the very least gets the choice whether or not to side with the Sylvari who still try to remain out of Mordremoth’s control.
Yes, confirming bug!
If you choose ‘Sell on trading post…’ for an item, the maximum quantity of your item is automatically selected and it’s default on highest ‘buy order’.
I always select lowest ‘selling price’ and then just click OK (and alternatively undercut by yet another 1c
).
However, this recent patch bugged out so when you swap between buy order and selling price, the quantity resets to 1. Since there is no button to choose ‘maximum quantity’ in your inventory, I now have to work around by noting how many I got for sale before I right-click the item and click ‘Sell on trading post…’
While I have a good memory for these, it’s tedious and cumbersome in the long run, especially since it worked before the patch. So… will just call it a bug
Please fix.
I guess all of social media, word of mouth and whatever print ads you’re running for PAX wasn’t enough – you have to bombard players in-game too? Shameless advertising. The trailer was done in very bad taste. A nice kick to the groin for those players still around to enjoy your content.
PAX better be worth our trouble.
Let me quote Ygritte from A Song of Ice and Fire… “You know nothing”.
As a human/norn player, my characters will stand up and fight alongside Canach and other Sylvari who actively try to defy their heritage as alleged ‘dragon minions’ at birth.
One thing is what you may be born as, another is fighting that background if you want to serve good, that’s a worthy cause that will get my support!
I agree, the encounter is well designed, although I do have a feeling it might be a tad on the easy side, as I see it being finished almost constantly already.
Because it’s not timed. You’d have a lot more rage and failures if it was timed like the Marionette and Jungle Wurm, etc.
I like it the way it is; you still have to handle all the tasks in each lane and you have a set number of attempts (until carriers are all gone).
point of no return was the 8th episode and the last episdoe is 9th how i know, go to collection and on each luminanacens armor shows on which episode it gets unlocked, last armor piece on the 9th episode
Nope; both helmet and coat was unlocked in Episode 8 which launched yesterday.
And… we ARE getting an expansion
I just wish they would give us the option to hide any armor piece so that you could play bare-chested Charr, as many of them are…
You hoard them for that time in the future when GW2 adds new races or professions and you want to level up quickly.
I like the ToKs too!
That’s the point. I’d rather see a new game more true to what Guild Wars is, than a GW2 expansion.
They just need to start over and actually make the amazing game they told us about during GW2 development.
Oh, but it is though… I have 2000+ hours played saying this game is just that – and that’s just as a semi-casual.
And I know many who’ve got waaay more.
If it’s a mini-expansion that includes more than Maguuma Jungle; could the Dominion of Winds suddenly come along with new race and profession, etc.?
I.e. not so heavy on new continents and maps, but more meat to the bone on new features too?

Item: Glorious Plate Helm – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Glorious_Plate_Helm
Issue: When your character has a beard, the beard disappears when you equip this helm. Other open visor helms like the Avenger’s Helm, Carapace Helm, etc. don’t “clip” the beard, so please fix this visual bug.
AND also, to be up front about an upcoming armor set featured in this data-mined video. Please be aware of the beard issue with the heavy armor helm there

I NEED that heavy helm, and if it cuts my beard away I will cry!
I care about PVE.
I care about WVW.
I care about PVP.
I am a Guild Wars 2 player.
Ding ding ding, we have a winner!
You, OP, on the other hand, come out on the losing side in this thread.
I care about all three games modes and want a lot of attention on all of these; prize money for PvP tournaments seems like a way to increase its appeal in e-Sports. However, I wish ArenaNet would rather develop new PvP content (match modes, etc.) that made it even more rewarding and enjoyable IN-GAME to play PvP.
Citizens! Now recruiting for the battle for the Mists!
Musically inclined individuals, this is your place to shine!
Given that TERA’s most recent class addition was called The Reaper, I doubt it’d be called that in GW2.
Other than that, nice idea
I think they’re discontinued, which is why the stuff, dust and cogs you required now can be exchanged for gifts at the festival vendor NPCs.
To be honest, I don’t do dailies anymore.
I just don’t feel like doing what they want me to do, I guess I’m too used to being rewarded just for playing the game.
You had to do what they told you to before, to get your dailies.
Exactly… and while some categories are now missing or certain objectives are a bit too specific (like profession-winner), dailies both past and present require you to do tasks that Anet tell you to do.
I notice no difference; I login and play some PvP and by the time a match or two is over I’m either 2/3 or done with dailies. I assume it’s the same in WvW, and I can easily complement from PvE dailies with vista viewer, miner/logger/forager, crafter.
10 APs for something that completes naturally as I play within 30 minutes… in many ways better than before where I’d get 1 per daily and there’d always be some I didn’t want to do.
When that other Ranger knocks back the enemy and you lose range.
^^
This x100 was going to be mine too! Buff up, prepare that burst, unleash on mob… wtf, mob just kb’ed halfway across the screen… oh useless, longbow ranger used his skill 4 in the zerg…
I’ve never actually played GW1 before, but I’m trying to find a way to get a fourth point (I already have the 3 from linking accounts) easily. I read somewhere that you can get a miniature and dedicate it in your hall for an easy point, but I don’t really understand how to get a miniature without a lot of money or waiting a year.
Is there any way I can just play the game for a little while and get a point? With over 30 I’d think getting 1 would be easy, but I’m still not really sure how it all works and the guides I’ve read have been a little confusing.
Let me know if you need more minis, I can give you a few whites (common minis) too. Don’t remember how many is needed for extra points.

I think GW2 should have a feature where you can make armor presets so that all your armor doesn’t take up all your inventory space and allows for quick switching(While out of combat). My Idea of this concept is that you could pay 150 or 200 gems to unlock another preset slot with max 3-5 slots where you can equip yourself with different armor.
Lets say you are in WvW and you are in a zerk, but your commander says that you need to do condition damage instead, a few mouse button clicks and you are changed into condition damage armor and you are ready for the next battle.I made some concept art of this.
Chances are you’d also need to change your traits to a build suited to condition damage for that, not just swap out your gear.
Hence, we need a build template system that allows you to store certain configurations of equipped gear + trait/skill selections.
I want to be bunker, fine. I want to swap around to DPS, let me just click this one button.
You’re welcome
So, rather than announcing an expansion, Anet will be announcing something that follows on from the Living World… so, we get the Dying World now…?
I spend enough money on the gemstore as it is, I do not want to spend another $50 on an expansion. With 3500 hours of gametime, I still have not manged to set foot in 80% of the dungeons, do more than 1 full fractal, or do more than ~170ish pvp matches(just got wolf rank a couple days ago). I’ve got more than enough content to meet my gaming needs if they continue putting out living story content as they have been. (though I would like the living story pieces not to keep ending on cliffhangers)
……..what? what do you doooooooooooooooooooo? honestly ima just put the troll stamp on ur forehead and be done with you.
So, someone who doesn’t play the way you think he should is a troll. I see how it is. If you were to step out of the box of your own experience, you might see that there are possibilities you hadn’t considered.
your right that could def be true, but then he probably does A LOT of wvw, or other achievements or focuses a lot on pvp. still though, he makes it seem as if what we have is plentiful. what he has to realize is that most people are NOT like that. most people want to take the WHOLE game in, not just focus on a few aspects of it. so thats why i called him a troll, yes he could be telling the truth, but the way he says it is deceiving.
yea, could be a wvw-er, but said himself he had only played about 170 matches in pvp. I’ve got 2k hours on my account, 6+ 80s, 300+ ranked wins in pvp and world completion, WvWed quite a bit and done my share of fractals and dungeons.. I fail to see how someone with nearly twice my playtime has seen “so little” of the game
unless ofc he’s solely doing WvW, that is.
1) No subscription fees, yet neither f2p.. I love the b2p model
2) Great combat system
3) All the game modes (PvE, PvP, WvW)
Then again I’m so happy there are no heroes/henchmen in GW2! kitten it, I could curse their AI from time to time… bad pulls, orders, and etc.
