It’s just a beta. It’s not a big deal.
This.
But then again, the RNG applies to everything in the game.
When you repeatedly see players getting beta portals, precursors, exotic drops, etc. and you have logged x thousand hours, played since launch and played all content, you kind of feel disheartened and generally a sense of apathy towards this.
Have they stopped dropping now? Can anyone from Anet perhaps confirm?
Anet said that players with access to previous closed betas were not automatically renewed to access the next/future closed betas. So, basically beta access is given, then revoked after the beta you participated in, as long as Anet follow this route.
If I could get a bear skin or cloak; I’d be close to achieving my dream of a Talos look.
I think the Huntsman high tier back item has a bear skin on it take a look at that maybe.
Thx for the tip; I’ve tried it before but then you also get that massive backpack whereas I only want a bear skin cloak draped over shoulders and back. The Koda shoulder could work due to the bear skin on the back, but really… just hoping there’ll be fur cloaks in the future

Bug Fixes:
“Fixed a bug that caused the Weapons Test Engineer to spawn in a location that prevented players from being able to attack him in the Molten Furnace Fractal.
Increased the drop rate of the Portal to the Heart of Maguuma item. "So, a low drop rate was a bug?
No need to go pedantic over categorisation on release notes; it’s probably just put under that heading which is a general ‘Bug fixes, tweaks, etc.’
I’ve gone back to the starter armors for a simplistic look. I’ve got a helm in mind (namely the unreleased set which has been datamined by that_shaman and I seriously hope that Anet do not screw up the beard clipping on this visored helmet!)
If I could get a bear skin or cloak; I’d be close to achieving my dream of a Talos look. But we’ll see. For now, quite happy running around like this – sometimes I even enabled my Commander’s Shoulderplates (Human T1) for that one-sided shoulder protection
PS: Actually, I ran like this in WvW and people would not invite me to their group because they thought I was low-level! xD
He’s Norn, not Icelandic.
Case closed.
It’s not difficult, but there are some instance hijacking trolls out there. So try to run dungeons with at least 1-2 friends so you can avoid getting kicked by some people out to steal an instance from you.
Wife and I are personally not interested in the BETA (both want to experience everything as fresh as possible with a friends the first time), but man have enjoyed the increased population in Silverwastes doing the events! This has been great! Did VW like 3 times over the course of 2.5 hours! Keep up this silly grind for content in unused areas ANET! Cant say its th ebest idea, but I have enjoyed taking advantage!
Yea, they should add a 0.1% drop rate chance for BL tickets too and 0.5% chance for BL ticket scraps in these zones… watch the flood of activity
Mini Avian Pack, could they make a reappearance pls, not just be a rare drop from BL chests?
Tried 15 chests yesterday and the amount of trash boosters, trans charges and TP to a friend items I got that only waste space in my bank is ridiculous.
My question is if the Mini Avian pack will become available on the gem store again?
Anet?
Completely missed out on those, and I’d quite like it
Try to think for a second before you rant about low drop rate. We know some people are getting them, reports are coming in about that.
Imagine how many thousand players repeatedly farm SW/DT since yesterday, and then in the space of one week they’ll like fill that closed beta with players looting those beta portals. If the drop rate was higher, they’d have far too many gaining one.
I for one really welcome this, it finally brought a lot of people back to Dry Top and we churned out T5/T6 all evening which is good for completing some other goals.
I think that a notification should be included on the launcher so that people know not to buy GW1 specifically for the HoM rewards at this time.
Lol… have you played GW1 for HoM rewards? It takes upwards of 1 – 3 months only to get to 30/50. Anet will have fixed HoM in that time, there’s no reason not to get GW1 and earn those achievements for when HoM is finally reenabled in GW2.
And to your other point; so if some bug caused everyone who made a new character to get the “Twice-told Legend” achievement and your favourite legendary that you worked hard to get in their inventory, you’d be ok with it?
What about the people who started earning their HoM stuff AFTER the bug? Will those people also get a total revert?
Ofc not, because then you have a GW1 account linked and can show for achievements. Those who got the awards before didn’t even have to have a linked GW1 account. Because the GW1 server sent some bad response to GW2’s server on char creation, it didn’t matter.
So the fix should be simple once they manage to get the mass removal of titles + achievement pts sorted.
Also my favorite is when the servers broke and ecto sold for like 1 plat each because you were hacked and you had to roll back the server! I bought like 50 stacks of ecto! That was the greatest day ever!!!!
Sorry, but your greatest day ever was when you exploited the game to gain access to a bunch of stuff you shouldn’t have, when it was vulnerable to 3rd party hacking your game…?
But if the damage is limited to titles and you’ve fixed the bug meaning that it won’t happen again, why can’t the HoM be re-opened?
As Cleary just said, thankfully the HoM instance didn’t work during this time so people who were affected by the bug and unrightfully got the HoM achievements without having GW1 haven’t got access to the HoM skins.
What do you think would happen if they reopened HoM now before they can fix the bug and remove the achievements from all those who got them?
All those people who shouldn’t, will then be able to go to HoM and potentially get a bunch of HoM skins and suddenly Anet have to fix yet another problem. Mass removal of acquired skins for a bunch of people.
Thus, HoM remains closed until the affected people cannot access HoM; then they will probably reopen HoM.
Thanks for the update btw, Chris, glad to see an official statement that you will be removing the titles + achievements from those players who got them by accident through this bug.
It’s an important achievement for GW1 players and it’d be sad if it wasn’t removed from those who haven’t rightfully earned them.
10/10!
Sword and hammer look awesome; thats’ probably why I got them!
Shield is too small, yep. Bows look too slim; given the overall design of the set they could’ve been more “meaty” if you get what I mean.
You just demonstrated you could type it; you ctrl + link Shadow Refuge skill to the team chat. If they don’t understand that and see where you are on map; they defo won’t understand you saying it either
I’m sorry, I just don’t see an ingame team speak solving anything… pug teams hardly ever managed to type out anything on team chat, and I can only imagine it’s because of language issues, so how then will having 5 players possibly speaking different languages shout crap at each other make it any better?
It’d be a next to unused feature, imho. I think TS/Mumble/etc. remains a privilege to coordinated, premade teams.
/Prediction hat on
HoT will launch on the 25th of August, 3 years from the beginning of headstart.
/Prediction hat off
I agree – as I’ve done all along.
Plus now GW2’s coming to Gamescom too, so possibly to advertise their imminent xpac launch?
No, that’s just stupid. I could understand if it was a racial/class lore thing, but to give everyone that option is just immersion breaking.
Right now I’m having to play my Charr without chest armor to get the same look. At the expense of quite a lot of armor stats.
At the very least make it possible for Charr and Sylvari characters – but really make it an option for all if that’s easiest.
Sent mine in, got 10/10 (even the fondest memory one :p)
Anyhow, fondest game memories are the War in Kryta campaign (Mursaat, Shining Blade, Kieran and Gwen story), Cantha and the story with Shiro and the whole Luxon vs Kurzick strife.
From what I gathered, Arah wasn’t build by the gods, but renovated by them.
But then Ree’s statement doesn’t make sense:
So, once long, long ago, the gods of the humans brought the humans to Tyria. And they founded a kingdom called Orr and the city of Arah.
If you found a kingdom and a city, you build it from the base and it didn’t exist prior to being founded.
Oh, and thank you for clarifications on the other matters at hand, very interesting and enlightening
(edited by Dondarrion.2748)
As long as they only do this in hot joins I don’t mind, they’re like practice arenas. If someone joins unranked or ranked and pulls of kitten like that, I hope they get banned from PvP
Thorough, informative and excellent post by Tough Love Critic, read it prior to it appearing here, but hopefully this post makes one or two people at Anet aware of it as well!
But, you’ve made the opening poster’s point for him: 2 emails, 1 blog (that aged out of visibility 2 days later), and a mention in another article. That’s all there was to highlight this in the form of basic communication. If one missed both emails, and were casual enough that one didn’t notice the blog, one didn’t know about it.
Read this back to yourself aloud.
2 attempts at direct contact (e-mail) and mass broadcast (blog) plus publicity (article mention).
Short of coming to knock on your door or phoning you on your cellphone, this is all the recipients fault for not paying attention. 2 attempts at direct contact was practically one too many in my book – if people cannot be bothered to pay attention to a message sent directly, they’re not entitled to complain afterwards either.
We don’t know where the gods took humans, but it doesn’t seem to be Cantha. Lore implies that humans sailed to Cantha just as they did Elona and Tyria.
Having done a little more research on this, I pieced this together.
The Kingdom of Orr was the first human kingdom established on the continent of Tyria, created by both god and man.
From: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Orr#cite_note-1 which is citing a TowerTalk interview on Humans where Ree stated:
So, once long, long ago, the gods of the humans brought the humans to Tyria. And they founded a kingdom called Orr and the city of Arah. And Arah was the city of the Gods. The Gods actually lived there among the people much like the forbidden city at the center of China’s main city. Arah had an area, where the gods lived and the humans lived around them and worshipped them and adopted Tyria. From there the humans spread north and east up and to a land they called Ascalon, where they founded the kingdom. And from there they headed around to the west to Kryta.
This doesn’t make sense, Ascalon being founded as the first – after Orr – kingdom as humans spread north east from Orr.
However – the article on Humans from the original Guild Wars wiki states several times;
Humans arrived on the Tyrian continent in 205 BE (305 CC, -5 DR). Since their arrival, three major human polities have arisen, Ascalon, Kryta, and Orr. Orr was the first region colonized.
But then a bit further down…
Humanity arrived in Cantha in 786 BE, over 500 years before their arrival on the continents of Tyria and Elona.
Then my question is; if humans arrived in Orr 205 BE, Ascalon was founded 100 BE and Orr was – as we’re told – founded by the human gods and humans; how did humans suddenly arrive 500 years earlier in Cantha, thus even predating the arrival of the Gods in Tyria by… 500 years?
Am I missing a vital piece of information here?
Seems it did the trick, at least the gw2 sites are back up.
But that sucks, I get punished because I’m an experienced player… I’ve been with Guild wars from first game to this day, but this honestly first time I felt this mistreated. I feel so frustrated with this.
It’s why you either run dungeons only with guildies / friends and ensure you’re in majority so a vote kick will be denied – in case of hijacking or generally getting jerks / newbs from the LFG experience.
Depending on whether you’re EU or NA (I’m EU), add me and I’ll come help if I’m around and I can guarantee there will be none of this bs
I do not like to PvE. It’s not that I haven’t tried it. I have played plenty of it. I just do not like it. I really don’t. There is absolutely nothing they can possibly do that will make me enjoy my time in PvE. They can add rewards, they can change the game types, they can do whatever they like, I will not enjoy PvE. I simply do not enjoy cooperative multiplayer activities, I enjoy only competitive multiplayer, in which all of the opponents are humans. Arena Net seems unwilling to accept that I exist.
When this game launched, it was perfect so far as PvE goes. There was a PvE system, and players who wanted to play it could jump right in and play, no problems. But if you didn’t enjoy PvE, that was fine too, the game didn’t force you to. There were no rewards that PvE players could get that couldn’t be gained through PvP, and most PvE rewards were completely useless to PvPers, and that was great. I could completely ignore the PvE element, as I will always want to do, and not feel punished for it.
But then they added the wardrobe system, and suddenly seriously PvEers had tons of new skins that PvPers didn’t, many of which are difficult or even impossible to earn through PvP activities but were relatively easy under the previous PvE reward systems. They’ve also been adding more and more rewards that can only be earned through PvE, like the Mawdrey backpiece, the Luminescent and Carapace armor set, and now adorable cats.
They also made changes to the Dailies that make it often difficult if not impossible to complete the three necessary without doing either PvE or Fractals (which are equally do-not-want), so PvE is often the only option for picking up that spare, whether we enjoy it or not.
Please fix this, all of this. Please respect that while some of your players enjoy PvE and deserve a rich play experience, many of your players DO NOT and will not, and what seems to be a continuous effort to convince players to PvE only serves to make us more and more frustrated with the game. If you want to have a mechanism to bribe players into PvEing a few times, just so they know what it’s about, that’s fair enough, go ahead on that, but once a player has played a few rounds, allow THEM to decide whether they enjoy PvE or not, and if they do not, RESPECT that choice, and allow them to go back to the elements they enjoy, without them missing out on cool rewards that they might want.
1. Add methods of earning ANY currently PvE-only rewards via PvP means, using equivalent amounts of time and effort. Don’t make them ridiculously onerous if the PvE method of earning them is relatively easy.
2. Add more PvP dailies into the rotation, so that players are never locked into doing 3/4 of the available options when many of them have inconvenient timing or onerous conditions. Bring us back to the previous standards where you could ignore most of the available options if they didn’t suit what you wanted to do.
3. Moving forward from there, just always keep in mind, some players like PvE, many players DO NOT, and design accordingly. Assume that many players will not want to do the PvE content, but also do not want to feel excluded from elements that have nothing to do with PvE, like tiny cats. You gain nothing by forcing players to spend their precious time doing content that they do not enjoy.
Now, some PvEers will argue that there are rewards that can only be earned through PvP, and they’re upset about that. That’s a fair complaint and feel free to argue for better access to those rewards through equivalent amounts of time and effort spent doing PvE, but that’s a completely separate argument and has nothing to do with what I’m saying here.
I swapped PvP and PvE… did I do that right??
In terms of what should be fixed or not, when they manage to get a fix done, remove the HoM rewards from those players who erroneously received them.
I.e. if your account doesn’t have a GW1 account linked with the correct points, remove the titles and HoM item rewards.
These rewards are for dedicated GW1 players – don’t mess up and leave those untouched with those players who – albeit unknowingly – got them without deserving them.

I notice a few of the GW2 community sites I’ve been using are suffering these days; and it seems due to some 500 Internal Server Error response on the API side:
https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/files?ids=all * https://render.guildwars2.com/file/5A4E663071250EC72668C09E3C082E595A380BF7/528724.png should show us the “map_complete” icon but instead we get
{"error":48,product,module,line,“text”:“file couldn’t be loaded”}
happens also on many blueprints eg. https://www.gw2tp.com/item/21263-superior-flame-ram-blueprints (https://render.guildwars2.com/file/1CBB0445780D0A4AE1A20C7CEF27EB792E35331D/455544.jpg)
Cantha.

~~~~~~
Indeed – Cantha!
Then, if I could bring some more, I’d include:
Skill captures
Challenge missions (hopeful of what the HoT Adventures will be)
Build templates
Collectible minis (worth it)
Polymock
Underworld & FoW
Things I’m glad are gone:
Heroes&henchmen
Lack of jumping
Lack of TP
Boring combat
Lack of feeling like an MMO
Let me elaborate… wiki states that currently, if you’re the high scorer in your team, it’s less likely that you’ll lose points when you do lose a ranked game.
This strongly discourages defending. I literally just had a game with a guy who was basically a bot who kept running far over, over, and over again to enemies’ home. He died countless times and contributed nothing but he got the highest point from decapping and hence will probably lose nothing. The fact that he’s even made it this far with his gameplay suggests there’s clearly something wrong with the way rank points are awarded.
Really?
The way I read the articles about leaderboards, etc. (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/finding-the-perfect-match/) was that it’s your TEAM’s final score in the match, and not you personally. So, if your team only has an odds of winning of 20-39%, then still if you get 300+ points in that match, you’ll come out with 0 or more points.Which source are you reading?
dondarrion it seems i’ve made a mistake! thank you for showing me the way <3
No problem, happy to show you it won’t be as unfair as you first thought.
Just goes to show, even if you’re losing, there’s everything to play for so that you get the most points possible and hopefully don’t lose ladder points.
I wish devs would play on EU servers too; I picked up a second account for an NA “fall-back” and the number of devs I saw there last Stronghold beta was just great. But it made me miss seeing this kind of presence on EU servers… it’d be very nice to see.
Maybe through Masteries you could discover a new T4 cultural line of account-bound items that you could craft.
Yea, click the chest once to activate, click again to turn off. Simple.
So happy they put this ingame. Don’t care too much about the aviator stuff, but the “sepia-mode” is simply pretty
Thanks Anet <3
I use SweetFX to achieve my sepia-mode
they will do 9 weeks of class specialisation features first so launch will be at least 2 months away… :/
And more players still don’t know the effect of those bubbles or simply troll you when you say, “pls don’t pop until boss gets here”
could’ve been fixed if bubbles were burst with F interact rather than dmg, because ppl are just to accustomed to kill everything that can take dmg.
These should be the splits:
Unranked (Conquest+deathmatch+stronghold)
Ranked Conquest
Ranked Stronghold
This is a great solution and should be implemented with HoT.
+1
And give us build templates so that queueing for Unranked, you don’t have to respec everything manually depending on how the dies roll (or… wheel turns).
Necro is fine if you want to play one.
OP says it doesn’t unlock until higher level, but PvP actually gets unlocked at lvl 3 which is roughly after doing your starter area and completing 1 heart in your starter zone. I think that’s not a big issue.
Where you said, “PvP actually gets unlocked at lvl 3 which is roughly after doing your starter area and completing 1 heart in your starter zone” This isn’t true. While you can run a new char on a new account to the portal in LA and access PvP that way at any level, the first time the UI unlocks without doing that is level 22.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/a-fresh-start-the-new-player-experience-in-guild-wars-2/
That must have changed (probably due to player complaints), because I just got a 2nd account (on NA since my main account is on EU) and I have only 1 character on there. Thus there’s no veteran experience to go with, to GW2 I’m as fresh a player as can be…
Already at level 3 (or was it 4) I could bring up the PvP menu and Enter the Mists and queue up for games.
I remember because I did it on Monday this week! I remember because I wasn’t even level 10, which meant I could not equip a helmet, and that meant I didn’t want to go into Ranked arena because I’m not going in at a disadvantage to my team and myself.
I’m still confused about this. So the Gods brought the Humans to Cantha, from where they spread to Elona, and later to Tyria, but the Gods lived in Arah, so the Humans found them again later?
The Gods first brought the serpent-like Forgotten to Tyria to oversee it and protect it. At this stage I believe the other races were the only ones there, though I don’t think I’ve ever seen a list of exactly which… such as were the Norn in Tyria before the Humans – they’re so alike, and I kind of regard them as human-like although they’re distinct.
Later, the Gods brought Humans to Tyria (no idea where from, but a different world). The Humans spread like wildfire and moved to Tyria(Kryta), Elona, Cantha, etc. and the Forgotten were pushed out in Tyria & Elona but in Cantha the Humans and Forgotten remained more harmonious.
Then, Abaddon wanted to further develop the world and released magic to its races – but the races rather used it for weapons and warfare. The “ruler” of the human kingdoms at this point, King Doric, then went to Arah to plead with the Gods to remove the gift of magic.
The Gods (excl. Abaddon) obliged and contained the magic in the five Bloodstones, thus preventing anyone from gaining control over all magic. In response, Abaddon took the Margonites (his followers) to war on the remaining Five Gods (Dwayna, Lyssa, Balthazar, Grenth, Melandru). Abaddon lost and was banished to the Realm of Torment – its creation was such a powerful blow that the power unleashed led to creation of The Desolation and the Crystal Desert.
Following this, the Five Gods left the face of Tyria (“Exodus of the Gods”) and marks the start 0 AE of our current (Mouvelian) calendar.
ed. To the better lore people than me; this is a rather populistic short-hand account of the events. I just wrote ‘Forgotten pushed out’ and don’t go into exact details of this, or the racial wars or even details of King Doric’s journey to Arah.
(edited by Dondarrion.2748)
…allows the player to have his character shout out a line. Like a battle cry or something of the sort.
On my main guardian, I get him to shout “Retreat!” then me and my allies charge into battle!
Oh wait…
The only thing I would question about what you said is the PVP thing, what do you mean a new player can’t pvp. Can you no longer enter the mist portal in LA to go to the mist early?
OP says it doesn’t unlock until higher level, but PvP actually gets unlocked at lvl 3 which is roughly after doing your starter area and completing 1 heart in your starter zone. I think that’s not a big issue.
That the WvW screen is locked until level 18 (although you can enter the portals in garrison in LA) is just ludicrous. I posted a bug about it; because the message when you hover the WvW icon says ‘World vs. World. This feature is unlocked at level 18’ ; but how on earth is a newbie to know they can actually bypass this if they just head to the portals in garrison in LA.
There’s just so many headshakingly terrible decisions made with the NPE; and it used to be so good before with the freedom you had in what to do. And to be honest, the lack of freedom under the NPE doesn’t take away any confusion an inexperienced newbie might have anyway. I got a 2nd account and although I can’t “undo” my experience, it still felt like after the starter tutorial I was just dumped in the starting zone and didn’t know where to go.
The game didn’t need restrictions on what you can do, what you can achieve or unlock like the current NPE forces down your throat. It needed more visual clues at early levels to direct you to hearts, vistas, skill challenges, PvP, WvW, etc.
But…. it’s a high fantasy game, and I’m seeing so many hairstyles that fit with 2015 and the age of gel/spray and heavily stylized emo/pretty boy/fashion cuts.
Bring in some grimy hair styles, gritty beards and rugged faces for those who want to make real adventurer types too.
Same… like proper, trimmed but full beards. I have a beard IRL and it’s definitely not the full, bushy Santa beard that is the only beard in-game… the rest of the options are seriously only stubbles, not beards.
Speaking from male human perspective.
Any update on this, Anet?
I see that I suddenly have loads of skins that I forgot to unlock there and would like access to these on my characters again.
Don’t let this become a broken window…
