In related news….

The “JQ BEAST” has awakened in order to prevent BG from taking first place. Coupled with the burnout by BG due to pushing hard over the weekend into monday, this resulted in nothing less of expected results and JQ establishing a large lead by tuesday evening.

In other news, anyone want to 1v1?

Since when is 10k a large lead in t1? I seem to recall JQ being ahead by 40k at the same time last week. I know SoR has never been in the position to even be a threat to JQ so you may not understand.

In other news, was great fights in JQBL! You KnT guise and Icoa guys/gals are a fun bunch to fight.

EDIT: Also WARD was awesome when they were there in force! I think they either logged early or went to defend another BL that needed help.

Generally in T1 nobody wants to 1v1 you. I find that all 3 servers (BG especially) will have a staring contest with you while spamming /laugh until one+ of their teammates show up then they can proceed to 5v1 you.

Best bet is to move to Tier 2. The roaming there was fantastic and I loved every second of it.

It you want to stay in Tier 1, best bet is to use a mass evade build. Lots of mobility, lots of dodge. Burst won’t cut it in a 1v5 scenario.

I actually disagree. Mainly because it would be super boring. Zergs would melt in seconds and the winner would be determined by who has the most eles. Just imagine a group of 30 sticking close together and run into another group of 30. Group A gets 3X meteor showers off. Auto win!

I think in order to de influence zerg mentality, things should be changed besides the AoE cap. The biggest is probably the CC. As it stands a small group of 5 doesn’t even stand a chance because they get CC’d/immobilized for a long time and die before they could react.

I always hated burst/GC classes anyways. Reason being is theres RNG in it. I can’t stand RNG. Many times even with a 50%+ crit chance a vital hit needed to win will end up being a non crit and I get screwed over.

Pretty much everytime someone /joins my party after I kill them (usually 1-2 times every ~2 hours of roaming) I get called cheap thief who has no skills while I look at their dead bodies on the ground. Many times a thief is even part of their group. ^^

I would if they fixed alot of problems and also got rid of RNG, which wouldn’t be needed after Anet gets a good amount of income.

Shadow shot while spamming backstab before the second attack of shadow shot completes.

Instant 900 range teleport gap closer that gives a backstab. Any good D/P thief would do that.

Yes. this trick is nice, but does not work 100% of the time.
SS needs LoS , sometimes you wont be able to get the shot of.

And you only teleport if your shot does hit, but initiative is lost on triggering the action … just saying.

The amount of initiative lost is alot more cost effective than another BP/HS or 2X heartseeker. I also find most of the time LOS rarely gets in the way.

A 2K heal on a 45sec cooldown? Seriously?

Steal is gonna be pretty awesome for me. Before I used it to teleport to downed targets, and I’m specced for stealth on steal & poison on steal. This gives me an easy stomp, easy blind(blind on stealth), and poison, which helps so much when they have an ally trying to revive them. I also get 3 initiative.

Now I will also get a good amount of HP. I consider this a buff for me ^^

If only bad players are dying by it, they will still die post patch, just 50% slower.

I like the examples people are making of bad players spamming autoattack and dying to confusion in 5 seconds. This time it’s only 10 seconds! wowzers!

Just don’t use RTL as a opener/combat skill. Save it to run. You now have your ele mobility, at the cost of a very predictable combat skill that wouldn’t even hit against a half decent player.

RtL change doesn't make sense.

I’m just going to laugh at this. D/P seems effective and I have tried it and played against D/Pers. The same QQers are the same that can’t handle most other thief builds. You see a D/Per getting set up for his move, ether evade out of range and give him a reason not to chase you down in stealth then unleash hell in that 4 soon to be 3 second gap (You have longer though because of set up.) or just let him do his thing, let him HS you. Then evade out of the way, for a thief it’s easier with shadowsteps but you can do it. He loses his BS and now will ether stealth again with BP+HS and waste more initiave to try again or burn a utility/heal.

D/P can be annoying but with patience in a fight you can burn them down to where they wasted their utilities and initiave and heal to try and get you, or they run off and save you both time.

Necros, have you tried to look for the animation of BP and then evade the intial shot that blinds you, then try fearing when they do HS. You just wasted precious stealth time for them to BS you.

Mesmers, have you tried using Temporal curtain as soon as they fire BP? You can pull them right out of their BP. BP+HS Stealth only works if there’s a BP field close enough for them to HS through and if they waste a HS to get close then a HS to stealth, you wasted initiave. Keep that up and hell, even use GS #5 when they HS at you from BP.

Just keep doing that. Engineers, just pop a net turret. That’ll screw them up enough if they don’t take it out.

And even if you can’t be bothered to learn or time a counter, just run away. Or run long enough they burn a few HSers. Most thieves will chase you down when you run because you appear to be easy or intimediated/scaried. Let them burn those for a gap closer and once they do, turn around and give hell. He won’t be able to pop BP+HS and will be forced to burn a utility or heal. If you are good enough and can time things, you can prevent that from happening and get them.

That was an awesome SM golem rush. 20 golems vs a paper gate. Literally melted in 5 seconds. Fastest gate take down I’ve ever seen ._.

Probably not, but D/P deserves a nerf. There is no hard counter to it, unlike CnD, in fact, it even adds blinds on top of it. You can say CC/Pulls but the fact is the window to use it is small, you are likely to be blinded so it will miss, or you will autoattack to rid of the blind, in which case the window is closed to CC/pull, with the CD on most of those being ~30s.

Wait wait. Let me get this right. You wanted to nerf an entire class that was generally worse then yours just because one of your skills got nerfed?

To be fair, roughly 1/2 of Mesmer skills cause confusion. We have a weapon that does nothing but that. We have a class mechanic that does nothing but that. Equivalent impact to other classes would be:

1. For rangers, pets no longer do damage.
2. For necromancers, bleed and poison now do 50% damage.

Yes, but then what is the point of a nerf in the first place, if you’re going to nerf other skills to bring it down to the same level?

Let’s be real here. We get it. Your confusion got nerfed. I don’t think it should have been IMO, but that’s no reason to start throwing out more nerfs.

Also, a great counter that I’ve seen work well is “shattering” the clones as a thief uses CnD off them. Great tactic. I’ve seen mesmers shut down thieves entirely with this.

Or you can do the lulz way and have a bunch of tonics that give “rush”/teleport skills in your inventory. Pop it open and run away in deer form. I use to do that and it works quite well once you get used to it. Plus it’s lulzy as hell running away from a zerg in tonic form.

Seems like WarMachine and RISE took the safe routes rather than a challenge. Gl on BlackGate!

Would still be a challenge to beat JQ, which they probably won’t be able to, at least without having a massive burnout. Either way, some of these “guilds” that transferred have a tendency to leave when they can’t win. It all depends on how JQ plays it out.

Also if anyone wants to 1v1 me before reset. Whisper me. Will be on all day.

It’s meh in Tier 1

I help run a dueling guild, ARENA TIER 1 but there is simply a lack of members. Nobody is interested in dueling. More people are interested on how well their server does and winning somehow equates to individual player skill…

Actually any kind of AoE CC or AoE damage will be good counters to D/P stealth stacking since you know exactly where the Thief is when he tries to stack stealth.

You can also easily interrupt the initial Heartseeker after the Thief sets up a smoke field, which will result in the Thief being down 9 initiative and still not stealthed.

In fact, the best counter is simply walking into the smoke field, which gives the Thief 4s revealed if he doesn’t cancel the Heartseeker immediately…

Experienced players who understand how the stacking works tend to perform the latter two counters on me pretty often.

Just trying to bring attention to the fact that d/p stealth stacking is a tactic that’s only OP against people who have no idea how Thieves work.

Against any good player, the reward of higher stealth duration is justified against the risk you’re taking by performing it.

A D/P build I used to use was absolutely ridiculous in this. I would run healing in stealth and condition cure in stealth, and not once did I lose to a condition build. That says alot. The trait renders so many condition classes useless against the thief. Doesn’t help that it removes one condition the second you enter stealth. This needs serious consideration.

Honestly this makes it sound like you just don’t have a lot of experience in higher tier sPvP.

Try running this trait as your sole condition removal against a good P/P + Grenade HGH Engy or Axe/Torch + SB Trap Ranger and see how long you last.

A) I don’t play Spvp
B) Not everyone plays “high tier”
C) Majority of WvW condition players melt to D/P

On demand perma stealth, at any time, with zero counter. On top of that add a ranged blind attack and blind field makes it absolutely ridiculous in certain scenarios. This ignores that fact that running with a fellow D/P friend, you can essentially share stealth if one person lays down a BP. I do believe there needs to be more initiative cost to B/P, while buffing the condition blind itself to balance out other Pistol offhand builds while adjusting D/P.

P/P: This weapon set needs some love. As it stands, P/P is useless without a blind buff or access to stealth.

Oh yes, remove a condition for 9 Initiative is clearly OP ..

Also you forget that you have to
a) run D/P
b) spend points in SA traitline which will lower dmg quite a lot.

And no, it does not render condition builds useless, if thiefs would not have this trait we would just be freekills for those
mega hard to play condition spammers !

Basic thief trait setup + weaponsets when running shadow’s embrace is

10/30/30/0/0 D+P .

This setup does more then 50% less DMG with standard burst combo then 25/30/0/0/15 with D+D.

So this is absolute fine !

Infact, D+P with 30pkt in SA is finally another way to play thief instead of the mainstream burst specc, you can even “outplay”
other classes using this setup.

Of course not as good as our beloved elementalists or ng’s but its a start.

What build did you use?
I ran a full valk D/P thief with 100% crit damage in stealth.

7K Backstab average + full healing in stealth + Cure conditions + two initiative everytime I stealth. It more or less becomes a CnD in terms of initiative cost.
10/30/30.

18K HP, 2250+ armor, 104% crit damage, 100% crit chance on backstabs.

All of you guys are getting defensive in this thread for no reason. Read my post history if you want. I’m all for defending thieves and against baseless QQs. This is what I believe, however. I don’t think any class should not have a viable counter.

Also like to note

Immobilize does not work in preventing stealth, it just keeps them in place over the blind field. They can still combo leap and get stealth

Stuns/Daze/Knockback/knockdown/pull

Only work at range. The blind field at the feet of the thief negates the ability to do a melee CC. Most classes that have this have the skill with a large cooldown, not nearly enough to shutdown a properly built D/P thief.

Also, please unnerf pistol whip. It’s horrible in WvW.

Just thought I’d like to share my personal thoughts as someone who has a thief main 1000+ hours and a low level guardian.

Personally, I think the thief does exactly what it was meant to do: master of escape and mobility. I do NOT, however, think all aspects of the thief are balanced. Just a quick list

Body Shot: This skill is absolutely worthless. It needs serious consideration for a buff, because as it stands now, all it does is waste my initiative in the heat of combat when I accidentally press 2

Revealed: I never saw the 4s revealed as a nerf, but the thief fields weird and clunky now. As many others have said, everything about the thief revolves around 3s, why change revealed? It didn’t nerf thieves as much as people would like to do. Culling was the real nerf here.

I don’t see it as a nerf personally, but it does not feel smooth. Nerf didn’t succeed in nerfing anything(although it gave the illusion of it). The culling was the real nerf(fix) here. It just made many thieve builds clunky and weird. Definitely does not feel right at all.

Well according to the T2 thread, WM is confirmed to BG. Should be an interesting matchup once they are over.

Anyone have anymore info on the rest of the KN guilds?

Actually the T2 thread got their information from the T1 thread(here). If you read it, all the speculation came from the poster who was replying a T1 thread post(a few pages ago) who basically was a EU player and said WM was going to BG. A troll, I believe, who according to MERC, tried to sabotage BG.

Wouldn’t trust this guy at all.

Thief; Why Ranger class Alwys your 1st kill?

Mostly because most rangers have targetted attacks (Bows) making them an easy target for a stealth opponent. That and most rangers I see tend to be full glass(die easily) and the thief QQs on the forums are mostly from rangers. Their tears are delicious! Haven’t seen a regen/tank ranger lose to a Glass thief yet, though. Those guys are nasty little buggers. Some are tankier than the tankiest D/D eles and Guardians.

Here is a true tip if you wanna use the forge. Use exotics, the % chance of getting a precursor is roughly 1/50 exotic attempts.

Where did you get that number from?

After I got The Lover(few posts up)

I wasted 700G with exotics and got nothing.

I like devourer’s venom more for a backstab build.
Reasons are

A) The opponent can’t hit you with most skills if you are behind them
B) Stunbreakers don’t work. Condition cure does, but those skills usually have a cast time
C) Lasts longer
D) I can have a better elite. Thieves guild, for instance.

I think shadow trap should have a much longer timer. At least one minute. As far as the immo and knockdown goes, I like using those. They serve the purpose of which I believe they were made to do: Getting away. Of course, I would rather have caltrops than any of those, but it’s besides the point. Shadow trap is awesome though, but the timer once activated is too short.

Pistol Whip should get buffed again.

It was never OP to begin with. In fact, I’d strongly argue that it was UP to begin with. A thief, who wastes a two utilities and ALL his initiative for a burst that would be entirely mitigated by a stunbreaker. Makes no sense how it was even considered op. Pre quickness nerf, you could achieve the same results anyways. The people who died before still died. 15% didn’t make a big enough difference, it was only to show the noobs that Anet was doing something, when it was simply an illusion, because it wasn’t overpowered. At all.
