Also, why is there no downed state for NPC’s? So much for continuity across the game.
Because they don’t have the heroic resolve that we have. They just faint. Probably why they are needing help being escorted in the first place.

If all you’re wanting to do is stand in LA and stare at the forge, then GW2 is very alt – friendly.
If you’re even thinking about playing the game, then you might want to stick with one character and pretend you only have one character slot and the rest cost <x amount of dollars that you cannot afford>.
Is that all you do with your alts? Stand around in LA? lol sad
The fact I can use my main character to get BiS gear for my alt characters = alt friendly. I can literally play any of my characters to progress any other character. They all share the same currencies.
I think the forum warriors here saying it isn’t alt-friendly have the mindset that if it isn’t completely interchangeable, then it is unfriendly by default. They completely ignore the alt-friendly facts, find the one or two things that aren’t alt-friendly, then label the entire game alt-unfriendly. These are the “what have you done for me lately” people. Don’t hear a peep out of them when things are good, but the moment something doesn’t go the way they want, suddenly its the worst game in the world and Anet is terrible and the game is dead and there’s no reason to play “Grind Wars 2” with all the gear treadmills and temporary content sucks, etc etc.
It’s getting soooo old.

Play with whatever the heck classes you want to play with. Why does anyone need to convince you of anything. No one cares about your preferences.

The horizontal progression will suffer the same fate as the precursors? (ie, not in 2013, postponed to a later date)
I’m sure it will “suffer the same fate”, as in be delayed several months, which isn’t quite as detrimental as the phrase “suffer the same fate” implies.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Hard to judge populations especially when you have no reference, but I can say that I’ve been playing since early release and compared to now I honestly see no difference in population. It seems as populated now as it was then.
I’m confident I’d notice if it was becoming a ghost town, so the fact I’ve seen no difference at the very least means it is probably stable. I’d be lying if I said for a fact it was growing, because how the heck would I know that.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Alt friendly yes, as in you can create alts and level them up very easily.
People are confusing alt friendliness with complete “cross-overability”
Just because your alts don’t share your WvW rank or FoTM level doesn’t mean it isn’t alt friendly….
It is very easy to create, level, and gear alts. All currencies are shared. I can tell you that when my most recent alt hit 80, I was able to deck them out in a full dungeon set, full ascended acc/rings from the laurel vendor, and all ascended guild commendation gear. That’s literally BiS for everything except weapon (obviously) and backpiece, all within 10min of hitting 80…. And this is on an alt that has never, not ever, not once ever set foot outside of WvW or Lion’s Arch.
I’d class that as alt friendly any day of the week. I mean seriously, that character has done barely anything and is geared better than most 80s. All thanks to my main and other alts doing the work.
Ergo, GW2 is alt friendly, don’t listen to the naysayers, they are just angry in general.

I just found my new hobby: wp to queensdale, say ‘Troll is at 50% hp’ then leave. The best part is that you don’t even have to be near it
A few weeks ago I soloed the underwater wurm in frostgorge. Guild had just completed the rush, so it was convenient. I kept waiting for the zerg to show up and help out but after like 10 minutes no one showed and I killed it alone. a few minutes later people were groaning in chat about the wurm already being dead. I have no sympathy for them. If anyone ever yelled at my directly, I would block and report them. The jerk store called, they’re out of you.
I’ve never heard anyone moan about a champ being down in FG, they just wait for it to repop or skip to the next one.
You’re their all-time best seller!
Oh yea? Well I had sex with your wife!
I urge everyone now to troll the QD train. I’m going to make it a point to kill every champ I see up in QD just for the hell of it. It will be glorious.
QD farmers need to get some self-respect and go to FGS where the mature people farm champions. Queensdale is for new players.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
OP is right, people need to be more open to lower levels. If you have 4 80s and 1 35, or heck even 3 80s and 2 35s it will still be beatable. Especially if that 35 has decent gear for that level. Especially if those 80s know what they are doing. It isn’t that hard.
that is also part of the problem, it’s not just that they are low level, it’s that they are also badly geared aka all in blues.
there’s rare level gear at 30 and 35, with this gear any lowbie can complete the dungeon without being a complete drag on the party or dying every other hit from boss.
and tbh ultimately the real problem is sitting between the pc and the chair !
aka player skill is more important than what level or what gear you are wearing !
And its so easy/cheap to get good gear at that level, there’s really no excuse for running in all blues, just laziness or lack of caring.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Back in the days, the only way to level quickly in Asheron’s Call 2 was to actually zerg stuff for hours. People like the easy idea of simply grouping up and killing stuff without any skills involved. Can’t blame them. As long as there is reward, it makes sort of sense (not for me though).
This is nothing new to GW2.
I want to thank you for being the only other person I’ve seen here that has played AC2 lol. AC1 is still on my list of best MMOs ever made.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I think it’s pure courtesy to just call out the champions or not disrupt a train… the way I see it is, if you see 30-50 people doing something, why be a jerk and ruin it for them…? I don’t get where this anti social /anti team work behaviour comes from, I don’t know if people are too young but surely any one who’s had a real job understands the importance of team work and communication…
Not everyone knows about the champ train. Sometimes they are wandering around and happen upon it and there is no one else around. How are they supposed to know that they aren’t supposed to kill that champion because 30-50 people are somewhere else on the map and want to kill him in a little bit when it comes up in their rotation.
They wouldn’t know that, so no sense in hassling them.

I think people are mistaking the forum warrior with warrior. Yes, guardians can out dps a warrior but cannot out dps a forum warrior. I hope that clears up the confusion.
Zerker warrior vs. Zerker guardian. Pretty sure warrior takes it every time in sustainable DPS. Enough people have claimed Guardians out-DPS warrior on this forum for me to demand evidence. Doubt it will ever surface though. Everyone wants to talk theory, nothing put into practice.
Your evidence has yet to surface either. Funny.
I didn’t realize I needed evidence for saying I’m “pretty sure” about something. On face value that implies some level of uncertainty otherwise I would have used a universally definitive term…
Go on home now, Yaki. Your services are no longer needed here.

Frostgorge champ train > Queensdale champ train
I can tell you that if I’m in Queensdale I’m doing any champion I feel like. If it screws up their farming order, even better. People need to learn to relax, it’s not like they didn’t just kill that boss 50 times right before and won’t kill him 50 times after, I think they can handle missing one…

Often people associate raid concept with gear treadmill of traditional MMOs, that’s where most of hate comes.
Personally I’d love to see introduced some raid content in GW2 as far as it doesn’t turn in a farm to obtain a specific item.Yet people are farming these champs the same reason as people farmed Raids.
To get loot! Magic Find Magic Find, oh nice I just got thing nice item off that champion.
Oh nice I got something I can salvage for expensive mats.
Its the same thing. both grind for Gear.
Pretty sure people farmed raids for their set pieces and not random drops….
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
But if I posted for “dps builds,” “experienced” etc, I still get some random who seemingly cannot read.
I’d be careful using “experienced” as a term when you really want DPS only builds. I consider myself experienced in every dungeon run because I know every encounter and have run them multiple multiple times but am not necessarily set up as a DPS build. I have 5 80s fully geared with different setups, so if they really want a DPS build I’ll run my zerker warrior, if they don’t care then I’ll likely run my Guardian or Ele just because I have more fun playing them.
But yea, if I saw someone asking for experienced players, I would join. If they hit me with the “you’re not in Zerker!!? GTFO!” I will be thoroughly upset as that wasn’t what was advertised. Sometimes I’m kicked before I can say “ok let me get on my zerker warrior” lol. Impatient jerks some people.
“DPS builds” is pretty clear. If you join a group asking for DPS builds in anything besides zerker, you deserve to get chewed out.

Or perhaps an Asura gate malfunctioned and you end up in a separate dimension/galaxy. Wormholes or some such. Just say wormholes and that’ll explain everything.

as an example: I can survive not jumping over 3 consecutive water waves from teq. you can tell who is berserker because they die on the first one.
You can also tell that they suck in general because they can’t dodge those waves, zerker gear or no zerker gear.

You bet my kitten that when I’m on my min/maxxed gear, and suddenly someone joined my party on clerics, I’m NOT gonna enjoy that puppy.
Question: how do you know they are wearing clerics? You ask right? Or do you say nothing, then randomly in the dungeon you just kick them?
If you are min/maxxing, state it before you run the dungeon. That’s all we need to do and there will be no problem. That way the min/maxxers get to play together and are happy and everyone who wants to play in their whatever gear get to play together and are happy. No one should get offended if you join a group, they say they are speedrunning and ask your gear setup, and then kick you for not having the gear they want you to have. They are allowed to do that. Just move on to another group. The majority of players aren’t speedrunning. Let that niche group do their thing, you do yours.
One time I was honestly kicked out of a FoTM10 (yes, TEN) for not having an Ascended backpiece. Everything else was BiS, but I only had an exotic back, so I was kicked. At first I was shocked because I’ve completed FoTM10 on a full Rare alt so I wasn’t sure what the big deal was, but then I realized they are probably looking for a specific setup and if I don’t cut the mustard then I just don’t cut the mustard.
It took me 5min to get another group for FoTM10 without issue. Slightly overkill for FoTM10 IMO, but those 4 guys clearly want to play a certain way and who am I to say they can’t.

This game will simply lose players that are fond to role playing games simply because this game is not a role playing game. Nobody has a role in a group.
Clearly you don’t understand what role-playing games are. The role-playing is you as a human being playing the role of a fantasy adventurer. That is the minimum requirement, of which GW2 fulfills in its entirety.
I’ve had my share of board role playing games as a kid and later on MMOs since ’97. I kind of get what playing roles means.
I disagree, I don’t think GW2 covers the least expected from a role playing game. Not a computer based role playing game. If this was a book game, then we could all RP; but since the nature of computer games is quite different, roles has to be pushed through your role on a group. What is your role? what is your place? what do you do that the other do not? what do you lack of?
This game has the exactly same mechanic as if we were all playing Darksiders online and we all play the same character. The only difference is you cast it purple, I cast it red.
My role is a Sylvari guardian, born from the whatever tree, here to help stop the Risen/Zhaitan and/or any other threat to Tyria. That’s it. That’s all it needs to be.
What was my role in Aion? I’m a daeva like everyone else and I fight the badguys/opposite faction. What was my role in WoW? I’m an Undead priest, who needs to fight the bad guys/opposite faction like all of the other people and I go on quests to help random NPCs or do a dungeon instance that has very little back-story. At least GW2 tries to explain dungeons via Story Mode. Why was I running Shadowfang Keep again? To kill the nameless bad guy? What was my role in Asheron’s Call, or UO? I was a guy that wandered around killing monsters or other players and leveling up. That’s it.
GW2 is no different from any other MMORPG as far as RPing goes. You make it what you want like any other game.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Aion has flying combat, this one has underwater… they are both the same and I like them both but the cosmetic is different… (thus my previous comment for taking this underwater from a different approach).
a question for those who don’t like underwater… Would you like it better if it was flying combat?
As an ex-Aion player I definitely appreciate the 360degree fights. They mechanics are very similar. Flying was awesome though, except it was only usable in certain area and required actual management so you didn’t run out of Flight Time. Nothing worse than a heated fight only to have your wings drop and you fall to your death in the Abyss
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I’m on the fence with underwater combat. Some classes absolutely suck (cough necro cough), others are awesome (ranger). I generally try to avoid it unless I have to do it (Aquatic kill daily, events, FoTM, etc). So take that how you want.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I honestly thought they increased the ecto rate. I get ectos like crazy when I salvage Rares lol. Think I’ve gotten 45 or so in the last couple of days of champ farming. Guess I have the favor of the RNG gods.
Yeah, I’ve had a great run of ectos lately, and a terrible run of dark matter. After the first few exotics I salvaged, I can’t seem to get even one dark matter. Hopefully a windfall is around the corner.
And that’s pretty much my question. Does the chance to have a good run of salvages outweigh the frustration of those dry spells?
I think I’d prefer a little more consistency so that I can expect decent rewards.
It goes to the rest of the game, really. There are other areas where the loot tables seem to have a very wide spread. Extremely rare chance to get a precursor on one end, and white gear on the other. Would it be more fun to have narrower spreads, so you know for a certain activity when you don’t hit the jackpot, you’re at least not going to be handed two copper?
I will always favor guaranteed drops over RNG, simply for the fact I can actually plan ahead. I will know exactly what the minimum # of X I need in order to obtain the item I want. Right now its a complete crapshoot.

That post shows no proofs, those numbers could easily be pulled out of the Great Hole in Divinity Reach if you know what I mean.
There is no data on how he got those numbers at all.Proving this is pretty simple; just have one Warrior and one Guardian deal his best possible DPS chain for one minute minumum (else it just proves burst but not DPS).
Then compare the total damage and divide it by 60.Until that test is done, properly and with no mistakes, your claim as the same validity as saying god exists.
The hilarity is you don’t realize the same can be said about your claim.
I don’t see how that’s true. His suggestion sounds like the best solution. Unless you’re saying you wouldn’t believe any numbers those players give because they could be making them up? Think a simple recording of both screens and then a detailed print-out of the combat log would put it all to rest. How could you argue those facts?

The new TA path is a perfect example of how GW2 almost forces teamwork, but not in the trinity requiring sense. Everyone needs to know how the mechanics work and each person can take on the roll of ooze kiting.
What I would like to see is a bit more distinction when someone chooses to run a specific set-up The healing power stat is available; if someone focuses on it, I feel it should make a clear difference. Right now it feels like you take a serious hit to DPS while only a marginal difference in the amount healed compared to if you didn’t spec healing.
They have the mechanics already, why not use them.

Really comes down to this: If you want to PUG, you want zerker gear else run the risk of dealing with elitist kittens. Now, I PUG a lot, and although I have DPS gear, I’m never running speed runs and none of the groups I happen to join are either. No one asks what gear each other has, we just play the dungeon. Never had a problem and I have to have done 100+ PUG dungeons by now.
Every now and again you get someone insisting we speed run, which is fine too if you’re into that sorta thing and have the gear for it. If you don’t have the gear, just excuse yourself or let them know it isn’t a speed run so they can move on and find a group more accommodating or vice versa.
Both types of players exist and you just need to communicate so everyone is on the same page. Trust me, the guys that want everyone in zerker gear would prefer to play with like-minded players just as much as the guys that think everyone should play in whatever gear they want do. If you specifically join a group advertising for speed runs, you better be wearing Zerker gear.

Exotics are gold sinks? I haven’t seen that in the slightest. You’ve had the better part of a year to get Ascended accessories/trinkets/rings (if you were around when they released last year). If you don’t have a full set by now I don’t know what you’ve been doing. Also, if you think someone in identical gear as you (full exotics/ascended acc) except who happens to have an Ascended weapon is going to be at any significant advantage then I don’t think you’ve looked at the stat comparison. Skill will always tip the favor (again assuming the only difference in your gear is the weapon—which it should be if you like to solo roam WvW).

I understand exactly where you’re coming from with all of this as I’ve thought the same thing before.
Then I asked myself, “Has anyone ever asked me what my AP was?” “Does anyone actually care?” Sure you may have people in your guild that you become competitive with, but outside of that, who really cares what your AP is? Many of the best players that I play with have under 5000AP, and that has never changed my view on their skills as players, and certainly if I PUG with someone I have no idea what their AP is so it’s not like you can discriminate against them.
So then why does it matter?

I have no issues with content being temporary, sometimes I miss out sometimes I don’t, the only people that get bent out of shape about it are completionists.
and those that simply want to enjoy all the stories that have ben made so far but oh wait THEY CAN’T.
Man I see you everywhere now Zoltreez lol
It comes down to a glass half full or a glass half empty perspective. You could look at LS in terms of all the great content that you are now unable to experience, or you could look at LS in terms of all the great content that will come in the future.
If we assume GW2 will have any kind of longevity, content from Y1 will be such a drop in the hat compared to the entirety of content that will be released over its life. If you’ve missed some LS content, deal with it, move on, and enjoy the content to come. You don’t have to have every single skin that’s ever been released.

If your main concern is travel speed, that can be accomplished by some sort of consumable that adds run speed for 1hr or something. They have a Speed Booster token you can buy (of course), but something a little more accessible would be well received I can tell you that.
It sounds, though, that OP is more interested in mounts as an actual object, insofar something to ride around on, regardless of speed. As of right now I believe Anet’s stance on that is a definitive NO MOUNTS.
80% of Tyria is completely accessible through WPs and no mount is really needed. Sure it costs money to WP, but that’s the price of convenience I suppose. The other 20%, like Orr with constantly contested WPs and WvW maps could use a better form of travel. I’m sure the argument, for Orr at least, is that players should actively try to capture back the WPs and there wouldn’t be a problem, but good luck with that. I like most areas of GW2 quite a bit but I can only kill so many Risen before I need a complete change of scenery.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I can believe it, I’ve never played one MMO ever that had a game type like that, so it can’t be that common.
I wouldn’t be against a mode like this, but I’d also be OK not having it.

250 gems really is not a lot of gems or gold, and it helps fund future content.
No one in GW1 had an issue with new and cross-expansion hair and skin colors being offered for a small fee later on, I don’t know why people are getting so angry about this, of all things. If it was 800 gems, sure. But 250? That’s a couple RL dollars.
I think requiring any amount of money is unacceptable for some people. I don’t really understand it. My only guess is that those people don’t have access to credit cards and/or have no in-game gold to convert. (i.e. children or people with poor money management skillz—L2RL)
While I don’t think your posts are directed at me as I am asking to pay for it but in a other way I wanted to react because of this “My only guess is that those people don’t have access to credit cards and/or have no in-game gold to convert. (i.e. children or people with poor money management skillz—L2RL)”.
Because I always have the feeling that people who spend a lot of money on cash-shops are poor with money management skillz—L2RL. It are those poor management skills F2P companies work on.. ‘you know what.. create a sense of urgency and they will be triggered to spend money they else would not spend’. BTW, kids and people without CC can get gem-cards in shops. Kids just ask there parents to pay I think. So no thats not the issue for many people here.
Wanted to confirm that comment was not directed at you. And I will also concede that those that spend “a lot” of money on cash shops could have poor money management skills, but “a lot” is a relative term and hard to define. Someone that makes 50USD/hr may feel spending $50/mo in cash shop as insignificant, versus someone that makes 8USD/hr, but I digress.
Having to leave your computer to get something that can easily be obtained while not having to leave your computer is a huge deterrent. I’m curious how many people actually go to the gem store, see something they want, then leave their house (or ask their parents to leave their house) to go to a store (which may or may not be close) to purchase a card in order to get that item. I really do feel it is prohibitive to the point of uselessness, but technically YES people or children without CCs could still purchase gems, but in a completely horrible time consuming, possibly money losing way (if it takes $10 in gas to get to and from the store to use a $10 gem card, is it really worth it?)

I think eekzie is saying that you should start the group, as you (hopefully) won’t be the kind of person you are here complaining about. Thus, if you start the group, and you know you will stick it out to the end, you will never have to worry about the whim of someone else.
To respond to your overall comment directly, though, I completely agree that party leader leaving should not kick everyone. Whoever came up with that system is dumb. It should auto-promote someone else to leader, so many other MMOs do it that way for a reason, it’s the most logical and least frustrating of any other option.
But what eekzie suggested would solve your problem on a personal level.

Welcome to the real world? If you aren’t present, you don’t get teh lootz.
Here’s an idea: why don’t you actually play the game regularly and you will never miss out on content? I’m pretty sure that’s what Anet is shooting for…
You want to be able to reap the same benefits as people who had the commitment to play, but not actually have to play yourself. God people can be so entitled.
You’re the kind of guy that would get upset if a raffle for a car or something required you to be present to win. OMG why can’t I still win even if I’m not present!!! WAAAAA NO FAIR!!!
It’s to reward people for staying, that’s it. You don’t stay, you don’t get sweet stuff. It is so simple I don’t know why people whine about it.

I can tell you that most people did not find the clocktower easy. It is still by far the hardest of all of the JPs released to date.
If they release clocktower and it is the exact same as last year I will be pretty disappointed.
People think the new TA path is too hard, people thought SAB NORMAL mode W2 was hard, I think anything that is harder than holding W and pressing space 3 or 4 times will result in people QQing it is too hard.
I welcome the challenge personally so crank it up a notch. QQers will QQ no matter what difficulty.

Uhm, yea, Scarlet has been involved since F&F released. It was especially obvious come Dragon Bash/Crown Pavilion.
Where the heck have you been OP?
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
OP clearly didn’t read any of the responses that explained to him SAB was a solo instance despite what the prompt displays.
Secondly, most people do not share the sentiment of the OP. This new dungeon has become a nice guild event. Scheduling groups, helping learn the fights, etc. etc. If you are the introvert that refuses to do any group content then you are going to have to sacrifice some things.
Now, this isn’t to say that I think it wouldn’t be awesome if all dungeons in the game scaled from 1 person up to 5, because honestly that would be pretty sweet being able to solo or duo a dungeon at any point, but I’m also 100% fine with 5-man requirements. Group dungeons have been a staple of MMOs for a decade, you really should be used to this by now.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I can understand some content being temporary, but locking players out of things like Super Adventure Box and the Crown Pavilion is absolutely deplorable. It’s an absolute waste of your development time to release temporary content, especially in a case like Super Adventure Box. My friend was thinking about picking the game up solely to play Super Adventure Box, but that won’t be happening now.
Man, you must have really loved SAB and Crown Pavilion is you feel it is deplorable that they are recurring temporary content. Deplorable? Really?
Sure it would be nice if it were permanent, but I wouldn’t say it is deplorable that it is only recurring. Think of it as a holiday event. When W3 is done it will come back, then go away after a month, then when W4 is done it will come back, then go away after a month, or perhaps they will make it permanent once the SAB is actually complete, who really knows, it isn’t even finished why complain about it?
If you missed something because you took a hiatus, then that’s a shame. I think having temporary content is designed to keep people from taking hiatuses in the first place. You don’t want to take long breaks in case you miss something fun/interesting. I mean honestly, they’ve been doing these 2-week/1month releases since Flame and Frost back in January, if you didn’t know by now that taking long breaks would likely result in missing content then I don’t know what to tell you.
And please don’t try to talk people into buying GW2 just so they can play SAB, that would be the biggest waste of money I’ve ever heard. It’s fun and all, but there are 6 zones….that’s not worth 50.00USD. Plus you knew it was temporary from the first go around, so why would you assume it would be permanent the second? Quite illogical.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Anet don’t like to add anything into the game other then Temporal Broken and boring Living Story.
Words cannot express my disappointment in our education system. I hope English is your second language.

condition for pvp
zerker for pve
tada problem solved
Yep. Condition builds own PvP.
Time to start, I dunno, trying different builds or something instead of hoping for condition damage build to be viable across the board no matter what situation. I can tell you my healing/boon dur guardian would get owned in PvP and doesn’t cut it in Teq fight compared to Zerk. You don’t hear me whining about it.
