If content can’t be completed with Rare gear, then it has no business being in this game. If they actually release some sort of new content that legitimately requires full Ascended otherwise you can’t complete I would probably move on to another game.
As it stands I can complete any dungeon, any boss, any anything on even my worst geared alts and that’s the way it needs to stay.

Omg they promise us living stories for every 2 weeks now they are changing again?Jesus they never keep their promises.
Yea I’m a bit confused what you mean here as well. I have seen no change in the frequency of LS updates, have you? Gotta control that knee-jerk, buddy.

Yea…I was owned by a necro with a condition damage build last night. Condition damage rocks in PvP. Who cares about PvE DPS? You in a hurry or something? Killing monsters is killing monsters, slow, fast, who cares really?

As someone who happened to get a Total Makeover kit in a recent BLC, I gotta say I’m pretty stoked you can only get those exclusive hairstyles through it. My character is significantly more unique than everyone else now. Female sylvari dreads? yes please!

I’m sure they were shooting for people to “kinda like” the first sets of Ascended armor….

I don’t think this thread contains one piece of constructive criticism so far all. What looks bad about them? What specifically do you not like? What would make it look better?
“Armor is ugly because ugly” is honestly a worthless post and anet will just ignore the feedback because it isn’t offering a single thing of value.
Heavy armor doesn’t look heavy, it looks like medium armor at best, and the helmet. Good god that helmet. How much time do you think went into that design? Uhh, full face dome featureless helmet, with uh, three breathing/seeing holes and some completely gaudy metal offshoot on the side, yea that looks epic! Roll with it! Oh and lets be sure to put on as many straps as possible, everyone likes straps and we totally haven’t been overdoing the strap thing at all, nope, not at all! For shoulderpads, lets not do anything large and intimidating, I’m thinking a chainlink pauldron, slightly smaller than the Masterwork level 30 shoulderpads already available, and on the other side, how about a slightly larger, asymmetrical metal pad with a bit of an iron fence glued on top. Now THAT’S Ascended!!! Man I hope I get a raise for such great work! Pants and shoes I actually think are decent, not sure why the rest of the set doesn’t seem to mirror them.
Don’t even get me started on Anet’s fascination with masquerade masks. Did I miss a time period where masquerade masks were worn as armor? I mean are you serious? How many stupid masks are you going to make? And on Ascended armor even? Are we all going to a masquerade ball after we kill Zhaitan? And lets not ignore the flowery/feathery shoulderpads. This style will clearly transcend all races! Charr, norn, asura, who doesn’t like flowery shoulderpads! No, I didn’t just design this armor for human females, why do you ask?
Medium, oh man medium…single eye masquerade mask, yes this needs to happen, what medium armor wearer wouldn’t want to have a defective eyepatch for head protection, I know I would! For armor, let’s not stray too far, let’s pick out an armor set already available, add some fancy gilding work, make one arm covered in leather straps (a la many other medium armors) and then have everything else just be a bland smattering of textures. Hmmm, something is missing, I can’t quite figure out why this medium ASCENDED armor doesn’t look as good as the others. WAIT!!! It needs a sash!!! OMG I can’t believe I didn’t see it sooner!! There, now THAT’S Ascended, no one could ever come here and say it doesn’t look ascended, I mean, do you see the SASH?
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I’m really sorry, but honestly how can someone look at any of these armor (male and female) and think : “yep those are the skins I want to have. I want to bother with obtaining them for the looks”
Seriously. I’m usually the first to jump in and defend some of the decisions Anet makes that are less popular, but ugly is ugly and these armor sets have no business being Ascended and/or requiring any effort to obtain.
I am deeply disappointed. I just don’t understand why they would approve these for Ascended. Not even just Ascended, the FIRST Ascended set ever released. It should be wtf awesome, not complete garbage that 99% of people will trasmute older skins over. I just wish I was a fly on the wall at that design meeting. I need to see the face of the person(s) responsible for this travesty.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I have to say, even in the images people are showing with the ascended armor in supposed good color combos, all I see is garbage.
I’m honestly shocked at how bad these ascended sets look. I realize people don’t generally wear full sets, but come on, these look ridiculous.
Who is in the art department approving these sets! This would be acceptable for a dungeon set or something, like CM, but ASCENDED? No way, I would have bluntly told the artist it isn’t at all what ascended armor should look like and to get back to the drawing board and make something good. It honestly looks WEAKER than other armor in game. Shouldn’t it exude power just by the looks? Don’t you want people wearing ascended armor to be obviously wearing ascended armor? Isn’t that the entire point of this game?! To look good!!??
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
As someone who exclusively has played healer classes in the past I was a bit disappointed at first with the lack of trinity. All of that disappeared once I actually started playing GW2 and realized that I’m significantly more versatile as a Guardian than I’ve ever been in a healer role.
It was always nice being able to join instance/raid groups instantly as a healer, but with the healer needs to come the tank and boy I don’t miss the days where I’m in an almost full party for over and hour waiting for a tank and then finally have everyone disband. Just no.
I like the GW2 approach, it’s refreshing.

I’d like a level cap increase now, with no ascended items at the new maximum cap, ever.
The only reason they might increase the level cap is to invalidate the current equipment and force regear grind. You will never get one without the other.
Adding new tiers would accomplish the same thing. Level cap increase would serve absolutely no purpose. I spend most of my time in non-80 level areas anyway, what difference would it make to me if I was level 90 in a level 50 zone instead of 80 in a 50 zone? I’m downscaled to 50. In PvP and WvW you are upscaled to max level, so level increase makes no difference there either.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I didn’t know people actually followed the 5 player recommendation lol. Pretty sure the April SAB said the same thing and almost everyone still did it solo. Since OP you said you did the SAB the first time around, did you actually do it with 5 people or did you do it solo? If you did it solo then there really was no reason to just walk away from World 2 now was there.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Classic games were great in spite of their technical limitations. SAB is bad in spite of not having technical limitations.
It’s bad? Darn I’ve spent 20+hrs in SAB having fun when this entire time it was bad?!?! Noooo, I must have been imagining enjoying myself!!

Thieves still take damage while invisible. If you have a weapon that does AoE, keep on swinging, odds are they are still around you. I don’t know how many times a Thief has gone invis and I just swing away and use AoE skills and next thing I know they are unstealthed and downed. I always giggle inside.
If you have retaliation, even better. When they stealth (assuming it isn’t for retreating, as in, if they are almost dead and stealth odds are they are hightailing it out of there), do some AoE skills, put up retaliation and watch them burn themselves down with their awesome burst DPS when they undoubtedly try to do their stealth-based attacks.
A good thief is hard to kill, but in my experience, the majority of thieves in sPvP are pretty awful and fight as though I’m some PvE mob.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I have found eles to be one of the easiest, if not THE easiest class to kill in PvP. Having played an ele myself I know exactly what their strategies are and how to completely negate them (god bless Guardians’ aegis, ret, condiremoval, and stability). If you can immobilize or knockdown an elementalist, lol gg elementalist.

My advice: Play Super Smash Bros.
lol I was going to say that.
Ok so this one map has an added knock off possibility. Why is that worth scrapping the entire level again? Because you don’t like it? Just put it on your list of least favorite PvP maps, pound your fist on your keyboard and swear when it comes into rotation, and move on like everyone else. There have been plenty of games where I hated a particular map, I never complained about it needing to be removed, I would just say “Ugh, I hate this map!” and proceed to play my best at it.
Man people these days. If I don’t like it, then it needs to be removed…riiiiiiight

I highly disagree with the topic…I’ve been in the Super Adventure Box almost non-stop since it was re-released. I think it’s awesome, though I have to admit that World 2, Zone 3 is way too long.
Hint: Use the Shatter-Song to skip the last area.
This. Literally skips one of the most frustrating parts of 2-3. If you didn’t figure out that the shatter song would allow you to skip literally this entire puzzle then I feel pretty bad for you.

How can I decrease my fun factor to a more appropriate level, more in-line with the forums’ viewpoints,
You can go play Anet’s previous game and realise what could have been.
If you play Gw2 for the rewards rather then for the content then there is a good chance it will feel grindy and unfun.
Exactly. I played MMOs in the past for years that focused on rewards. How to get the best tier, then how to get the next best tier, then how to get the next next best tier, etc. etc. And it isn’t because I felt I wanted that gear, it was because I literally needed that gear in order to experience the new content.
There was no option: if you didn’t have X gear, lol see ya noob, what is that tier7 LOL what a loser! Oh uh, sorry for wasting everyone’s time, I’ve only been playing this game 7 years, don’t mind me I’ll just be in a fetal position here in this corner.
I’m so over that structure.
That’s why I don’t care about Ascended gear, like at all. The accessories/trinkets are super easy to acquire if you log on at least once a day for 20-30min and are part of a guild that can at minimum accomplish guild bounties. Do I need the weapon? For what? To say I have one? I’ve already finished all of the content without it, so what’s the point? The whole gear treadmill argument implies content requirements. No content in this game requires Ascended gear. None of it. (Upper FoTM isn’t different content, I think of it as a Challenge mode for content I’ve already completed umpteen times already)

He got owned a number of times would be my guess. Now we have to read about it in rage mode ie. It’s bad game design.

Well the OP didn`t use best words to explain his opinion but I agree with main point: It`s an MMO, not a platform game. Saying “Don`t play if you don`t like it” is bad argument here because this is 2 week open world content (a lot of time, work and resources invested), not a jumping puzzle.
It’s so crazy how I can have the complete opposite opinion of you. I think the “Don’t like it don’t play it” argument is completely reasonable. It isn’t open-world, it’s instanced for starters. Jumping puzzles are a major part of this game and as someone who loves platformers and loves MMOs I find it freaking awesome that GW2 adds platforming elements. It sounds as though you expect every 2-week LS release to include something for everyone, and that I feel is completely unreasonable. SAB was a massive success for them the first time around, no one was complaining about it until it got “hard”. Then all of a sudden everyone became anti-platformer.
I wasn’t a fan of the Gauntlet, so I didn’t play it. Maybe I should have complained that if I wanted 1v1 instanced fights against an NPC I would have purchased a fighting game like Street Fighter? That makes just as much sense.
People bought this game for an mmo content so I don`t think it`s ok to release something entirely unrelated and say “If you dont like it, wait another 2 weeks”.
I bought this game personally because I was sick of standard MMO content. If I only wanted MMO content then I would still be playing WoW. GW2 is different and the different things they throw in to mix it up is what keeps me here. You may have purchased it because you wanted MMO content exclusively, but you can’t speak for me, and I certainly fall under the “people” category. God I hope so anyway.

regardless of the reason, it’s done with wp’s at the start.
I just did that JP yesterday, I noticed no difference in my completion of it. Took the same amount of time, had the same level of encounters. Why is this an issue?
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
GW 2 was advertised as a fun, casual MMO.
Fun = Grinding for Legendaries or BiS weapons/items and soon BiS gears.
Casuals = Being told over and over again by the community you dont need any of the stats above. Cause they are grinding so casuals could owned them.lolz just lolz
I have fun and I don’t do Legendary or BiS grinding. I find leveling up alts very fun, I find sPvP very fun, I find WvW very fun, I find most of the Activities very fun (I spit on Crab Toss), I find JPs very fun, I find dungeon paths and FoTM very fun.
Am I doing it wrong? How can I decrease my fun factor to a more appropriate level, more in-line with the forums’ viewpoints, because I feel I’m stuck having fun doing everything outside of grinding and according to the forums that simply cannot be. PLZ HELP MEH!

I consider myself an alt player (5 level 80s at the moment), and even when they were leveling up I think I used, what 10 transmutation stones between the lot of them and still have 100+ in my bank.
I don’t know about everyone else, but I know when I level up an alt I buy them new gear MAYBE every 10 levels. The skins available pre-80 are generally underwhelming so I don’t even care what my characters look like until I hit 80 and then start hunting for a look.
I’m sure there are people that want their level 34 character to have a distinct look, but I feel they are the minority. Most people I know don’t start look shopping until they hit 80.
my Level 15 Thief, 30 Ranger and 26 Necro:
Fair, cultural gear is a wildcard, but I feel you are part of that minority subset I was talking about. Most people I know feel pretty shortchanged getting stones instead of crystals. There will always be someone that can use them, the question is whether or not they are used frequently enough to warrant giving them out like freaking candy.

I must admit that I only go to Southsun to do that ridiculously easy JP and to do the daily dodger (Young Karka are AWESOME for that daily achievement).
Just like OP said, the mobs there do not lend themselves to casual solo play. Even when people who have never been there ask about it I always tell them that they will definitely want another person with them while they explore, otherwise you spend the whole time avoiding mobs or looking over your shoulder to make sure you didn’t aggro a veteran karka somehow while fighting those kittened confusion drakes.
There really is no incentive to go there. Like none at all. Unless I’m farming nodes, or happen to stumble upon a KQ group, why would I step foot on that island? I don’t even care that the monsters are tough, I actually like tough monsters, it’s the density of the monsters that becomes a pain sometimes. That and those drakes, god if there’s any monster in the entire game that I hate, it’s those drakes. You happen to pull two, or even three, lol good luck, and I have tons of condiremoval!
The zone looks nice, I love the concept, but poor execution. If loot was significantly better it would warrant the clear increase in effort needed to wander around farming, but as it stands there’s nothing in that zone that I need enough to deal with that frustration.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I’m kind of tired of telling people they can’t have the karka back piece I wear… because anet believes that an hour worth content every 2 weeks makes it all better… makes it “living”. All I usually hear is disappointment because they liked the skin but told they can’t have it because apparently they don’t “deserve” it.
It’s less that they don’t deserve it and more that they weren’t present during that event?
“Oh man sweet backpiece!” (I wear that one too btw)
“Thanks!”
“How do I get one!”
“Well, you can’t, it was a limited backpiece during an event that happened several months ago!”
“Aw man, that sucks”
“Yea, sorry mate”
End conversation. At no point do you have to tell them they don’t deserve it lol.

I’m pretty sure Ascended gear came out late last year. You know, within 3mos of the game’s release? You know, because any intelligent person would have anticipated the release of Ascended weapons once they released Ascended accessories last year?
Spoiler Alert: At some point Ascended armor will be released. Better pre-write your posts about how terrible GW2 is and that all the content is just another gear grind. Will save you time in the future. Oh and put as many smilies in there as possible, it really distracts from your constant negativity.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
At this point no1 but Vayne is happy with the direction gw2 is taking. For casuals its getting too grindy, for ‘hardcore’ audience there’s absolutely nothing to do but wvw (who the F wastes time on old boring dungeons to gain 1g per run lolz).
Uhm, I’m happy, how does that make you feel? I’m casual (10hrs/week), I don’t find it too grindy. The BiS gear actually takes a modicum of effort now versus the lolfaceroll 5 chars in full exotics within 3mos system they had previously. You realize that’s exactly why they felt there should be a tier between Exotic and Legendary, right? Literally the second I hit 80 I had full exotics through karma/TP. So now I just do what, focus on Legendary grind for a weapon? They knew legendary was a long goal, exotic was extremely short. It’s all very simple I’m not sure why so many people seem so baffled that a company would try to sustain its player base…
Outside of WvW (which is moot if you’re in a zerg) and HIGH level fractals, how has Ascended gear affected you in any way? I know I’ve completed every single bit of content available minus FoTM 30+ (which isn’t even new content, just harder versions of things I’ve completed 50x already) and that’s with full exotic armor and ascended acc/trinkets I’ve procured from laurels, guild comm, or FoTM drops. There’s nothing I cannot accomplish with the gear I have. Having an Ascended weapon will not make things any easier than they already are, the game is ridiculously casual friendly. There’s nothing I cannot accomplish on my alt with full Rare gear if we want to get technical.
If hard-core players want to grind out Ascended gear for a slight advantage in their CoF speed run, OK have fun. I can complete it in 10min whereas you can complete it in 9:30? OMG this game is so broken and grindy!!

See, this post is a legitimate complaint worth investigating. It really makes no sense why you would get booted if you created the instance and someone else leaves. Happened to me too and I was confused as hell, ruined it for everyone in the group unfortunately because I DCd for a long bit and then dropped group after logging back in. I was left asking “wait, was I party leader? I don’t think I created the group, did I? Why did we all just get booted?” It really made me question my sanity. I mean I may have smoked my fair share of greens in college, but I think I would remember if I created a group or not 30min into a run lol. At least I’d like to think I would…
Wait, where am I…

Dulfy is for people who are either very lazy or blind and can’t see anything on the ground. If you weren’t going to spend the time to find them on your own , then you, sir or mam, are very lazy.
Not sure about blind, and lazy is a bit of a stretch considering you’d have to call people who have spent 12+ hrs in SAB completing every achievement even WITH the guides lazy, that content just takes time.
Efficient is the word I would prefer to use. For example, you could spend 3 hours running around an entire map to get 10 items scattered randomly, and then another 3hours to do the exact same thing on a different map for another 10 random items, and then another 3hours on the last map to find another 10 random items. Or you can look at the time you have available to play, look at the number of achievement points you get, do a quick calculation on what sort of AP/hr you’d be getting doing it on your own (factoring in that you only have 1.5hrs/day to play), and then come to your own conclusions on whether it is worth doing it on your own or doing it with a guide.
So using myself as an example, I could either complete the content in one entire week of only doing that content with my limited play time or I could use a guide, finish that repetitive content in one sitting and then spend the rest of my week actually enjoying the game doing PvP, dungeons, boss fights, WvW, etc. I need to manage my time properly, and I can tell you running aimlessly around a zone looking for random items on the ground is not a good use of my limited time.

Buy gold = buy mats = buy precursor = legendary!! Buying gold can be in the form of purchasing gems from the TP and converting them into real gold, or taking part in the sleazy underbelly of MMO black markets. Do not recommend purchasing gold from online sites, but I’m pretty confident that is how a majority of people get it. I mean, someone has to be buying their gold otherwise they’d be out of business!
If you have capital you can also play the TP. Issue buy orders for an item then when you get it, sell it for more than you paid = profit. The very wealthy do this on a very large scale, flipping hundreds of gold. You can start small and work your way to that point. It requires an investment and there is always a chance you pick your items poorly and end up losing money.
That’s really all I can tell you.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
The Boss Week achievements are limited, so get your dragon wings while you can! Teq himself will stay forevers! He may end up going the way of the Karka Queen, though.
Biggest mistake they made was having the daily achievement for simply participating on that fight. It just incentivizes (hmm, pretty sure incentivize is a word but forums say otherwise?) them to AFK at the event.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I always attempt every LS achievement without Dulfy. That generally lasts about an hour lol. My problem is that some of these items can be literally anywhere, I’d like to think that my search would be limited only to ground or easily accessible areas, when in reality the items are underwater, up on a cliff that requires some sort of jumping, you know areas that you likely would think to yourself “well they wouldn’t put anything up there that would be crazy!” Yea no, it’s totally up in that area.
It really makes it so you have to search the ENTIRE map to find these items. Most people I know just want the achieves and move on, and god bless dulfy for that.
Same goes for SAB baubles. Since there is no counter I’ve made it to the end of a level and was confident I had gotten every bauble. LOL nope you missed one maybe two, heck could even be ten, you don’t know. Gotta checklist it through dulfy to be sure.
Definitely a hole in the design.

Harder? Sure.
Longer? No.
Devoting hours of play time that can be wiped away by a single disconnect is not the way to go.
Reminds me of the time my mom was vacuuming and knocked out the power cord to my Playstation when I was on the final Sephiroth battle in FF7. <— nothing you could do about it then either. Old games worked like that, and so does SAB.
And there’s a reason such “features” are left in the past.
Just as there is a reason this was designed from the start as a retro throwback and why those same “features” aren’t included in the current/modern GW2 game.
New games don’t have those features. Old games do. GW2 is a new game that does not have those features. SAB is a separate mini-game inside of GW2 that was designed to mimic old games, hence why it has those features. Seems pretty straightforward to me.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I just want to say that SAB gives me a solid on.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
The only problem with SAB is that it is now completely isolated. You cannot make progress on things like ascended gear, legendary weapons, or anything from within SAB. The problem is that if you play the REST of the game, then SAB is a waste of your time.
You could make SAB amazingly relevant again by changing a few things:
- Bring back Obsidian Shards / Philosopher’s Stones / Crystals for Bubbles
- Add a decent number of Empyreal Fragments to the end chests in SAB scaled based on difficulty (0 in Infantile Mode, more in TM) and world
- Bring back fun rewards like the super adventure fun box for bubbles
- Make rewards repeatable again and no longer daily gated; this change they made for this release was one of the worst they could’ve done
If people could make progress like that in SAB, Rata Sum and the SAB hub wouldn’t be desolate wastelands right now.
I think the idea of SAB was to take a break from all of that farming. To have a fun side activity. Tired of ascended mat grind? Hope into some SAB. Think of it as a completely separate game.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
It’s not too difficult, the problem is that it requires way too much coordination for this kind of game.
That’s an interesting claim to make. What are your metrics on coordination? Human beings are the most intelligent animals on the planet, I think we can figure out how to coordinate on the Teq fight eventually. Have some faith in your fellow human beings, not everyone figures it out within the first week, this content is here forever…
If my dog can figure out how to open the fridge, I think we can figure out how to down Teq with a PUG before Xmas.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
How about we all stop talking about this for the next 90days so we can laugh at everyone who said it was impossible when it becomes regularly completed on servers and overflows alike. It will happen. There are plenty of PUG players that want to complete it and stay after each fight to learn and understand what they should do and not do during the fight.
First step: start whispering the people that are dead and not rezzing because odds are they a) don’t have map chat on or b) don’t realize that having people stop to rez you when you are dead creates negative DPS on top of the negative DPS your corpse causes. This is where the education comes in. You can’t just say, oh dang these people aren’t rezzing, this encounter is broken and should never have been open world because of these idiots. Try and be a little proactive, that’s what separates leaders from followers.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I highly doubt that will happen considering he has been defeated already and it’s what, day two? Sounds like he’s a cakewalk if you actually have a group of competent players and not mindless #1 spammers.
On the biggest servers. EU even had to band together on Desolation in order to beat him.
He will get nerfed or the event will die. Simple as.
Yes the biggest servers were able to defeat him within 24hrs. And since then more have been popping up. You really need to not jump the gun with the “ITS TOO HARD NERF IT!!” reaction. Fact is that it can be done if those participating follow instruction. Over time the ones that show up to the fight will be the ones that have done it, know how to do it, and want to actually win. The people like you will stop showing up because its just too hard for them, leaving it to people like us who want to band together.
For example, on my server FA, we did it last night, had plenty of issues keeping turrets up, no one was rezzing and running despite constant instruction to rez and run and we STILL got him down 30% (compared with day one when people couldn’t even take 5%HP off of him). After the fight, the ones that were dead on the ground left the zone, some remarking that fight is nuts and they won’t waste their times again (better for us that way) and everyone else that actually wanted to win stayed after the fight to discuss strategies and to educate those that didn’t understand the fight. <— that is the learning process. That is what every server will go through. Eventually it will be figured out. There are already guides out from successful servers on what attacks to use, what potions, what boons, etc, for each specific class.
The population will become educated and Teq will be defeated in time. If you think all content, regardless of difficulty, should be able to be completed within 24hrs, or heck within even 1 week, of release, then you have been spoiled as a gamer for far too long.

I don’t think I could possibly disagree with you more, OP.

Not sure why you are having trouble with that jump. That one didn’t even register on my difficult jump radar. Seemed pretty straightforward. The wrap-around jumps later are the hard 1s (wtf hard 1 is filtered?).

Harder? Sure.
Longer?

I just start the first note that has that 2sec cast on the cloud before the 3 clouds. That way when I land on the first of the three clouds the first note starts, then I hit 3 again, jump to the second cloud, hit 1, 3, then last cloud 3, 2. Door opens for me right before I fall to my death. But once its open its open and you can just run there again.
