Is Legendary Weapons Worth Crafting?

in Players Helping Players

Totally worth crafting simply for the skin. Hate seeing people with the same weapon gear everywhere I look. With legendary, you know you’re part of a very small % of people with it, so odds are you won’t see people with it very often. I like that.

Legendaries, as far as my understanding, are supposed to be best in slot items like another person said. So once you get it you will never have to get another weapon again.

I AM curious on how that works with transmutes. Will those stats get boosted too, even though the stats are from a different weapon?

Running dungeons quicker accomplishes what? Armor skins? I mean….really? You think running dungeons quicker is an advantage? I think the word you’re thinking of is convenience. It is more convenient to be able to run dungeons “faster”, but certainly not advantageous.

Hell, if you are the only one in your group with a speed buff, what good does that do you anyway. You’re only as fast as your slowest teammate.

What's wrong with vertical progression?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Draknar.5748

Vertical = better gear.

Horizontal = different/unique gear, but same stats.

Every MMO I had ever played had vertical progression. I really started to hate it when you would work so hard to get something, finally have the whole set, look in the mirror and be both proud to have it and ashamed for wasting so much of your life on it, and then wham, next update your gear was laughable.

Yea, I’m done with that. I do NOT want to have to raid for the rest of my MMO days just to keep up with everyone else and see all of the content.

I like being able to get the best gear stats, then focus on the specific gear look I want.

God bless GW2. I think they did it great.

I’m OK with ascended too. For now. When they start adding a step between ascended and legendary, then I might start looking elsewhere. As it stands, I have no complaints.

Yea I have yet to see how buying gems and converting them to gold give anyone an advantage.

I outfitted both of my 80s in full exotics through TP without having to buy gems. Since then I’ve re-outfitted them in dungeon/cultural skins. Again, no gems.

Now, if I were to buy a whole bunch of gems and convert them to gold, what benefit would I have?

I could get the Commander title and symbol? Big deal. That creates more headaches than anything. You can buy the T3 cultural set? Big deal, they aren’t even exotic stats.

What else could you do, oh you could buy precursors and mats for making Legendary gear, which has NO stat increase over exotics currently. So no advantage there.

Really, other than being able to purchase extra fluff that won’t actually give an advantage, what do you see as the main pro to purchasing gems to convert to gold, other than speeding up the process to get something that can be obtained by other means?

Think people are just complaining at this point.

I don’t find it unfair at all. Sure it would have been nice to get that stuff for free too, but like someone said earlier, it’s like complaining you paid full price for something when it goes on sale a few months later.

In fact, that happened to my friend the other day, who for some reason bought a nice big flatscreen two weeks before Black Friday. I got the same TV over 50% cheaper because I waited for Black Friday. Sure he’s upset about it, but that’s how things work.

For the record, that summon skill is pretty useless. Merely a novelty.

People need to quit being greedy. Them having this stuff for free does NOT affect your gameplay in the slightest. You just want to have everything that everyone else gets no matter what the circumstances.

No joke this is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I needed FOTM 6, been trying for almost a full week in LA (in various overflows and on server) to get a group together. Usually I would get 1 person, but we’d sit there as a two man group for 30min and no one would bite.

From the forums I discovered gw2lfg.com and figured I’d try it out.

OMG one of the first postings was for fotm 6, I whispered the person, within 5min I had a group and we were zoned in.

Yea, it is really that awesome. Don’t even waste your time in LA anymore, not worth it, this will give you access to everyone game wide (that is using the site, the more people that know about it the more that will use it)

Tier 3 Cultural Armor - Lets reign it in

I have no problem with the price of the set, but I guess that’s only because I’m not buying every piece just the ones I want, so 20-40g isn’t so bad for a couple of pieces.

I decided last week I wanted the T3 helm, but it was 20g. I had 4g. I’ve just been playing normally, selling the drops I get on TP or to vendor and I’m already up to 15g, and that’s not even including all the mats I’ve got saved in my bank to sell, which I"m sure would put me over the edge.

Hasn’t even been a week and I’m almost there. Multiply that by 5 and we’re looking at ~5-7 weeks (taking into account off days) of daily playing to get the full set. To me that’s more than reasonable for a unique set. You actually have to SAVE your money to get it.

You can also play an alt character and funnel money to your main, I do that sometimes.

As for fine transmute stones. I don’t know why people need to even buy them on the cash shop. I have 35+ in my bank just from Black Lion chests.

I know keys come few and far between but when I do get keys I get 5x fine transmutes ~50% of the time. I want to think I’m average, but considering its apparently an area of concern for people, perhaps I’ve just been lucky with my chest drops, because I’ve never, not once ever, been needing fine transmute stones, and I transmute exotic gear all the time for different looks.

5 main cities are dead. They need some love

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Draknar.5748

I believe there is a very simple fix to this problem. Make the home city of your race free to port to. Every Charr would port to BC, every sylvari to Grove etc., I know I would, saves me 2-3s. You wouldn’t see so much cross race interaction within the home cities, but are you even supposed to? I’m Sylvari and I’m pretty sure the Grove is supposed to be mostly Sylvari. The townsfolk whisper about seeing Norn or humans every now and then like its a big deal, which only reinforces the fact this would be a great solution.

Other races only need to pass through the other cities for exploration or maybe storyline.

So make home cities free for their race and you will see it change.

I was the same way OP, at first I thought to myself, uhm, just these skills? That will get boring!

It has yet to get boring and I have 2 level 80 characters. Once you level up and realize that certain fights require different traits (you can respec your traits as much as you want) or different weapons or different utility skills then you’ll see the value in it.

Just like the guy who said he went from mashing 3, 2, 1 to more advanced rotations, my playstyle has evolved the more I used that weapon. I also try different main/OH combos to see what those skills do and in what situations they can be useful.

It’s different than games where you have 50+ skills on your screen, most of which are seldom used, they are just on the screen in case you ever needed to use them.

I played WoW pretty heavy in Arena and raiding and I can tell you that at any given time I’m not using more than 10-15 skills in an encounter. Everything else is just fluff that gets rarely used. Heck even in Aion you don’t use more than 10-15 skills regularly.

GW2 gives you 10 skills to use regularly (9 if you exclude elites cause of CD) with the ability to swap weapon sets for an additional 5.

Honestly think about all of the different skills you ACTUALLY used on a regular basis during action and tell me it’s more than what I said. In all other MMOs you have your rotation skills and then you have your secondary buffs/dispels/heals, that’s it. All that other stuff is an after thought.

What a "casual" player really is, in my view

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Draknar.5748

Draknar.5748

Casual players want what the hardcore player want – to be worthwhile.

This simply isn’t true. While there certainly are people who are great at games but lack the time, a casual player is their namesake – someone who plays casually with little care or thought. Most casual players likely don’t care (or know) about legendary weapons and the Mystic Forge. This update does not affect their enjoyment in the slightest.

However, you do bring up a good point. People who do care about games but lack the time can be severely affected by the upcoming patch. While this isn’t a solution to your problem, have you considered joining a guild with players who would help you achieve your goals? People are really nice in this game.

I consider myself a casual player. I play ~8-10hrs/week. I know what a Legendary is and am working towards it. I have have full exotics on both of my level 80s and want to be worthwhile in groups, I just don’t have the time to do what other MMOs require for end-game (i.e. raid for hours every day for months to get gear that will be obsolete next patch).

Don’t mean to contradict what you’re saying, but it was just wrong.

I still play the game and I have 2 level 80s. I never played GW1. What does that tell you? So what if the population ebbs and flows with monthly events? Who cares?

I think ex-WoW players (I am one of them) got so used to being on WoW every day all day that they think that’s what you’re supposed to do in an MMO. They can’t wrap their heads around a game that is meant to be played casually and not OMG so serious I need epic gear so I can beat the latest raid to get better gear so I can beat the next one they release!

I will not play for days at a time, then come back and play several days, then maybe play some SC2, or Borderlands, maybe go for a walk.

The game is NOT dying, the player base just isn’t made up of people that play constantly. Most people I know who play GW2 play it leisurely, but are still playing. Anet has their $60.00, there is no monthly sub, so what does it matter if people play every day, every other day, or every three days. It is still considered active. The monthly events get people to specifically play on those days, but once it is over people will go do other things and just pop on every now and then to either work on alts, work toward 100% explore, run some dungeons, etc.

So, in summation I believe that we need to stop looking at MMOs as failing if people aren’t playing ALL the time, but only if people NEVER play. I’ve yet to see that. Everyone seems to just be casual players which serious MMO players aren’t used to seeing. Which would explain why a large chunk of the non-casuals hit 80 within a week found nothing to do and then whined about lack of content. I for one didn’t hit 80 until 2.5months in, and am only 60% explored. I have months and months of content left because I don’t take it so seriously.

I believe everyone will need to find another hobby besides strictly MMOs; either that or they can go back to Pandaland, but I’m sure that’s getting pretty stale.

Why do people fear 'power creep'?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Draknar.5748

Draknar.5748

Seriously people, let’s give them the benefit of the doubt and see how this new “tier” of gear actually impacts the game.

I mean seriously, when this patch first comes the only difference is now there are slightly more powerful accessories. Full exotic players don’t need to throw away their exotics because these accessories exist.

All of the content in the game (with the exception of some areas of this new dungeon it seems) can still be completed with full exotic. The Agony resist will mean nothing in PvP, so really we’re talking about slightly better stats.

I DO realize that if you look at it in terms of percentages, some could argue that going from +10 to +13 is a 30% increase, and then it makes it seem WAY more powerful. But honestly, what is +3 power/precision going to give you over someone else? Is that boss going to require that extra power increase in order to down them?

Has anyone even considered the fact that exotic armor/rune sets give bonuses that can sometimes exceed or match the bonuses given by the ascended gear?

I think everyone should do their threaten to quit thing over this, that’s all well and good, heck keep that quit button holstered for quick deployment, but at least let the patch go through and play around with the new stuff before pulling the trigger. Pretty happy with this gun analogy, let me tell you.

It might not be as big a deal as everyone is thinking it will be.

Now, if down the line they start talking about bridging the gap between ascended and legendary with another tier, THEN we have a problem.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

I think the developers aren’t going to change their plans, NOT because there is a strong majority of players that actually want the ascended gear, but likely because all of the work is already done and they honestly feel that once we try it we will like it.

Whether or not that pans out for them remains to be seen. For all we know 3 weeks in Exotics will get a stat boost to match Ascended because of the uproar.

I honestly think in the end this will blow over. As long as Ascended is the only additional “tier” of gear they add then whatever.

Let’s all just pretend that Ascended gear existed from the beginning. I mean, it’s only 3 months in. Two years from now we will barely remember that Ascended gear came in 3 months after release, it will just be a part of the game.

Exotics are ridiculously easy to get. The second I hit 80 I had full exotics. No joke. I hit up TB and spend 14g or so for full armor and weapons. Now I’m just mixing and matching from different dungeon/karma sets to get the look I want. Both of my level 80 chars were full geared in exotics (looked kinda silly but the stats were there) from the get-go. In light of this I certainly understand their concern that it is too easy to obtain lol.

Before I hit 80 I was ready for the slight grind to get my exotics with a long term goal of my legendary GS. Once I realized that exotics were as easy to get as Rare/Masterwork I felt very underwhelmed.

Still on the fence about this Ascended gear, though. I was pretty happy that once my chars were in their Exotics that I was max stat’d forever while I work on replacing key pieces with different looks.

At the VERY least, this expansion is only adding accessories/back, so no one will really be THAT far behind. In two weeks everyone will have ascended accessories and we will all wonder what this hullabaloo was all about.

I don’t understand why so much rage.

If you see numbers, you’ll see that item progr. is null. I mean:

https://d2vn94glaxzkz3.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Ascended-ES.png
Ascended ring: Base of exotic stats + extra stats from jewel / Infussion slot that would NOT give you extra stats instead of AGONY RESISTANCE.
Exotic ring: Base of exotic stats/ Extra stats from jewel

What’s the difference between those 2 rings when ascended ring is UNIQUE equipment? +5 power + 5 precission? WOW, I’M INVINCIBLE!

Sorry, but am I’m the only one that sees:
+50, +50, +10%, +18, +18 + Open slot on ascended
+48, +48, +3% + filled slot on the uniquie

That are +136 stats and 10% against 96 stats + 3% making this item around 33% better. I wouldn’t call this a slight increase.

I’ve kicked someone for being a prrick like that. Playing in a group, happen to have a bad run of luck where you keep getting downed and have to be revived (not killed, just downed). Hey, sometimes people have off days, I mean seriously, it happens. Maybe I’m a lil high, tired, distracted, what have you.

Have some groupmate getting verbally upset he has to keep reviving me and then tells me I’m probably the worst guardian he’s ever seen. Laugh it off, tell him that my being revived is not affecting the run (which it wasn’t, we were a solid team and I just happened to need getting picked up a few times more than everyone).

But he would not let up. Questions like “what kind of crap gear are you wearing, I mean, is it like level 30 lol”. Start rolling eyes at this point.

Very next time I get downed, he says “dude seriously, what the hell is wrong with you”.

Vote to kick, kicked. whispers me and starts to whine. Told him he needs to get off his high horse and stop treating video games like work. Finished the dungeon 4man and I didn’t get downed once for the remainder of the run.

Game going pay to play?

Never heard of a game going from F2P to P2P. They would lose 95% of their player base. Being F2P is one of its major selling points.

But overall I hate them, I hate them with a passion. I’m even starting to see what look like regular players instead of the “Hgghaka” or “Jasjdad” names. Actual players with guild tags and everything (hacked accounts maybe?)

The bots are pretty annoying. HOWEVER….

They saved my kitten last night lol. Get overwhelmed doing a skill point in Frostgorge ( I was 5 levels too low for it) and as I was downed and expecting death, here comes the ranger bot train with their bear army. Wiped the skill guy, rallied me, and I moved on.

Was the only time I’ve thought to myself “thank god for these bots!”

So you get to loot everything 4-5 times with the same effort that everyone else has to put in to loot once? How is that fair?

Multiboxing is a form of botting. I suppose the master character isn’t botting, but the ones following along with your keystrokes sure are.

I’d take new class or new weapons over level cap any day.

New weapons would be awesome! With new skills for each class obviously!

Why I think teleport costs are unreasonably hight

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Draknar.5748

2 level 80 chars here and I can honestly say I don’t even notice the teleport costs either. I mean, seriously, three weapon drops and you’ve already covered the trip there (assuming you’re going there for a reason and not to just do one heart, who the heck does that). Heck I’ve teleported somewhere, forgot I needed to do something in Lion’s Arch, teleported back, then teleported back to where I was and I still don’t even notice the teleport costs.

I sell all craft mats I pick up, all runes I’m not using, all sigils I’m not using, I check what the TP price is on any weapon I’ve picked up before I sell it at vendor to make sure I’m not missing out on a nice chunk. Sometimes at vendor the weapon will sell for 1s98c, I check TP and lowest BUYER is buying at ~11s.

I would say OP is complaining for the sake of complaining, or is terrible at money management which is a whole other problem.

I think what OP ACTUALLY wants is a sequel to WoW. Same gameplay, same set up, just new graphics and maybe taking place in the future so things are different.

Think about it, OP, think about it….you know that’s what you REALLY want. You want WoW, but not the WoW that’s out now because it’s getting stale. You want a new, fresh WoW, with that new WoW smell. WoW with GW2 graphics.

The Gold in Guild Wars 2

You can buy gems through the Trade Post and then exchange those for gold. I would wait until after the Halloween event, though. Prices are all sorts of screwy.

Also, grinding may only yield 1g/hr, but the ones that get the big money are people who find/craft those big items and sell them for a lot of money. Google how to make legendary weapons and work to get any of the items required. They will sell decently.

I think the problem is that to some people an MMO needs to have frequent mini-accomplishments to hold attention. I’m not one of these people, but I know many. People play an MMO to feel that progression, that’s why a lot of FPS games started implementing leveling systems. Do you guys remember original FPS games? There was no leveling, there was no unlocking anything, everyone had the same weapons and you could maybe change your skin.

This whole play to level up to unlock better weapons and gear was because of MMOs (in my opinion, and dare I say because of WoW, someone look up which FPS game was the first to implement a leveling up system, my money is it was after WoW’s release/popularity).

People need to see that the 300+hrs of playing were worth the time (excluding just entertainment, which makes no sense to me. If you’re having fun, who cares, right?). Normally you’d expect the dungeon armor skins to be basically the same as raid tier gear, but since it doesn’t have better stats it is ignored.

I mean seriously the main reason people want to do raiding in WoW is so they can get the next tier armor, walk around in the main cities and have people be like “omg that armor is sick, that’s the TierX armor, he must be awesome!” That and so they can be geared up enough to do the NEXT raid that comes out. Mostly though its to look awesome.

I’ll never understand why that hasn’t been the same with the dungeon skins. You’re doing the same dungeons over and over (just like raiding) to get sweet skins (just like raiding), the only difference is it doesn’t make you ridiculously more powerful than anyone else. At least with GW2 there’s a light at the end of the tunnel because you know how many tokens you need.

When I would raid in WoW I could go 3 months without one piece of gear for my class, or I could get 3 pieces in one run (usually after everyone else already had that piece).

If Level scaling was gone would you feel motivated to visit lower level areas again?

I’m going to have to disagree with OP here. I’ve got 2 level 80 chars and I go to lowbie zones all the time to help/hang out with lower guildies. I’m automatically stronger than everything because I’ve got full exotics so I really just need to be careful with over pulling.

I get the fact you want to be able to pull almost the entire zone and then do one AoE and everything’s dead, but that’s a little lame in my opinion.

I think that if at let’s say level 20 I was able to kill 2 level 20 mobs at the same time easily, at level 80 it would make sense to be able to kill 8 level 20 mobs at the same time easily, which I would say is the case at the very least. Hell I’m sure I could take more than that with my Guardian, I’ve just never been around that many to test it.

You also need Events for Daily/Monthly achievements which are decent XP. I find that doing events that pop up while doing the map completion yields the most.

In many cases the Events will give you credit towards your heart completion anyway plus a huge XP boost afterwards from finishing the event.

I’ve yet to see anyone purely doing map completion without ever participating in SOME kind of event.
