I personally think that Tribulation Mode is more fun with one extra player. I wouldn’t run it with a full party, but having one friend of equal skill-level along, takes away a lot of the frustration. It makes the process of finding out the correct path a lot faster (yeah, we didn’t wait for any Dulfy guides).

Agreed. Equal skill-level is the operative phrase. Nothing like doing it with someone that hasn’t mastered wrap-around jumps. Just AFK at each checkpoint for 10min lol.

But my argument still stands, that with each future update the new content becomes more and more difficult to access, so it will eventually preclude new players from playing it.

Yes and no. World 1 can be completed in a day easy. And when I say a day I mean a 2-hour sitting tops (excluding 100% achievements, we’re just talking completion here).

World 2 will require a full day’s work to complete (~45min for Zone1, 90min for Zone2, 75min for Zone3, assuming you are attempting them from scratch without a walkthrough).

If you look at it this way, really we’re talking about 2 days to catch up and then 28 days to complete the new World(s) when they come out.

I find this to be a manageable workload.

Aside from world bosses and the occasional Living Story content, I’m not sure what PvE zerg we’re talking about here. I know I didn’t zerg through all GW2 content, in fact, most would argue that PvE in GW2 is characteristically lonely as the mid-level zones only have a smattering of people here and there.

Zergs are exactly where you would expect them to be and nowhere else. (Around champions, world bosses, and in WvW) Everywhere else is normal.

Shortcut eagle is actually cake when you get the pattern down. The rear bees come at the same exact intervals each time. I believe it is 4 from the back before the front bees attack, then a wave of 3 from the rear, then 4 again. If you know that you can just time when you need to get behind the eagle head. Additionally, standing behind the eagle head prevents you from being knocked off from the rear bees.

It’s really difficult to fail once you figure it out, so if you are having trouble then methinks you have only attempted it a handful of times.

As for the looks, that I really never noticed. I’m going to look around now that you mention it, but I actually thought it was a relatively unique look (sorta Asian-ish)

I don’t remember any particular jumps needing absolute precision. If you can dodge jump (space + V at exact same time while moving forward) then no jump is difficult in SAB. The W2Z3 rock tower has the hardest jumps IMO because sometimes if you miss a small ledge you fall all the way back down.

I disagree with you completely on the monster difficulty. The snakes, monkeys, and frogs in the first world were painfully easy. They really were just obstacles to side step around. World 2 finally gives monsters that you need to be wary of when jumping as many have ranged attacks. All of the monsters are pretty easy if you just bomb from a distance. I’m looking forward to more difficult monsters in the future.

Agree with length being a bit on the long side. In particular because this is World 2, there’s no reason I would need to commit an hour to a World 2 zone (W2Z2—for the first run through—once you know what to do it’s much faster obviously).

No opinion on the upgrades as I had 2500+ baubles from April SAB and was able to buy everything I needed when I came to it. I understand why it would be frustrating though.

Literally stuck, couldn’t get out, and believe me, I did everything humanly possible for 15min before deciding I was stuck for good.

I even tried to get creative and invited someone into my party, ported them in, and then tried to fake a DC so I could relog and have my spot saved. Leaving the instance reset the achievement and I got no credit.

Needless to say I raged hard. Real hard. Second time around took half the time because I knew how to do most of the harder spots with ease.

Infinite Continue Coin != pay to win

Draknar.5748

imho the problem is it removes the possibility of failure

What you’re saying is that it’s impossible, given the ICC, for any player to not be able to complete SAB TM. Really? It doesn’t give super powers for crying out loud, it just saves you some time.

you have infinite attempts from your last checkpoint, the only way to not eventually complete it is to choose to leave and not continue trying, or possibly have a client crash etc(which is a general problem the game has) however, you still have infinite attempts when you return, compared to someone who has lost progress and continue coins

Except there are some parts that I’ve seen people fail 50+ times with an Infinite Coin to the point they quit because they are so frustrated. When they leave halfway through they have to start from scratch when they come back in. If what you’re saying is true and that everyone will eventually complete it, then you’re saying that the jumps and timings are all so easy that anyone can do it given enough chances. That simply isn’t true. There are some areas that anyone with below average jumping/memory skills will never be able to complete it, even with an Infinite Coin.

I mean seriously, if it takes someone 500 lives to complete a checkpoint, would you honestly say at that point the ICC is P2W? I mean seriously, they’ve died hundreds of times and still haven’t completed it. If it’s P2W why haven’t they beaten it?

Answer: Because it is too hard for them, even with Infinite chances…

You want an easy solution to Trib mode? Have your checkpoint save after you leave. You got 6 checkpoints in but it took 3 hours and now you have to get to bed or have other obligations? No problem, when you come back you go to that checkpoint. As it is now you are punished if you can’t complete it in a reasonable timeframe.

I’m one of the few (I feel) who attempts to complete these from scratch and I can tell you that it has taken me so long that I ended up quitting halfway through. Wouldn’t I be done with it by now if it was P2W? (P2W by definition implies that by purchasing the item I will be able to win— it isn’t suppose to imply that by purchasing the item it will still take hours upon hours of work and effort to eventually maybe complete the content if I have enough time and patience, therefore it isn’t P2W…)

You need to master dodge jumping, I have a feeling it will be necessary in the future. I know that in Trib mode there are certain areas that dodge jumping makes things 100x easier.

It’s easy and extremely useful to learn. Space + V while moving forward. Will come in handy on regular JPs too, so take the time to master it I say.

It’s not 100% needed, but yea that cloud before the eagle can be quite devastating if you miss it and have to run all the way back from that checkpoint before the ground teleporters.

I absolutely hate the out of combat running (it really is like slow-motion), but don’t mind their running when on two feet, which is why I always have them run with weapon drawn.

If you’re gonna make a big burly warrior, and you don’t want to go the Norn route (why would you if you have a human, they are just big fat humans), then full size Charr is the way to go.

My other Charr is a Necro, smallest size you can make them. His back-story is basically that he is the runt of the litter and turned to Necromancy/evil. I like to RP during character creation and then never again.

Infinite Continue Coin != pay to win

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: Draknar.5748

Draknar.5748

The fact that there are guides available at this point showing how to do Tribulation mode with zero deaths, there really is no more point to argue whether this coin is P2W or not.

If you feel ICC is P2W then you should be happy that those suckers paid money for something, then created a guide that allows those that don’t want to buy the ICC to complete the exact same content for the exact same achievements in SIGNIFICANTLY less time than it took those that figured it out on their own.

If anything, the ICC is P2W for those that didn’t buy it…you reap the benefits of others’ hard work…

If you feel the ICC isn’t P2W, then you are an intelligent human being.

The fact that at this point Tribulation mode can be completed by anyone with or without the Infinite Continue coin completely nullifies the P2W argument. Follow the guides. We all know that guides are used for Normal mode (for bauble locations and such), so there’s no sense in acting all high and mighty and saying guides for Trib mode are cheating. If you’ve already used guides for Normal then use the guides for Tribulation. Same idea, everyone wins. No one is P2W.

The ones crying P2W haven’t actually tried to do it, they’ve just read the forums and others saying it is P2W, heard their arguments for it, disregarded the opposing viewpoints and then regurgitated it on other forum posts. It’s pay to win as hell. Especially for people who don’t have time to grind continue coins. With the P2W coin you can just bang your keyboard against the wall for several hours and be guaranteed a win, even in TM.

I tested out your theory. I bought Infinite coin and tried to complete W1 Z1 by running towards the checkpoint like normal. Weirdest thing…it didn’t highlight the path I was supposed to run, show me where the traps were, make me invincible to damage, or port me to the boss!!?? WTF I THOUGHT THIS WAS P2W!! Why do I still have to actually try to beat the content?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!11!?!/!/1/1/1/

FOR THE RECORD: I completed W1 Z1, Z2, and Z3 without the Infinite Coin on TM by following guides. In fact, I only needed to use 4 continue coins to complete all of it.

Saying it is P2W is the lamest excuse for not wanting to put effort into something I’ve ever heard. Just because you can’t complete something without the Infinite Coin doesn’t mean others can’t. The Infinite Coin gives you the ability to try things in TM so you can figure it out on your own (if you want to IE optional). If you can’t afford the Infinite Coin (lol ~$7), then look up guides online and follow them exactly. Case closed. It isn’t P2W if you can win without it… I’ve seen videos where people finish TM without dying once. How does that make you feel?

I completed all World 1 and World 2 zones with full achieves (have backpack) without the ICC. I purchased it once I started Tribulation mode, where it is 100% needed.

Estimated stats on Worlds 1 and 2 Normal mode: Continues: Zero on World 1 (was a pro at them from April SAB). I’d estimate a total of 100-120 deaths (20-24 continues) on World 2. (~15-25 on Z1, ~35-50 Z2 (surprisingly easy when you take your sweet time and actually look for those dart traps), ~50-75 Z3 (a large chunk from trying to get the Moto Finger and from the final boss). That’s a total of 20-24 (1000-1200 baubles if you buy them) Continue coins needed for 100% Normal completion.

Personal estimated skill level: above average (I was able to complete Mad King’s clocktower in ~20 tries and then could complete it easily multiple times after that, so I’m no JP scrub).

1000-1200 baubles is certainly easy to obtain considering you can get ~400 daily if you decide to actually farm. ~OR~ figure out how much time it would take you to farm for that amount of baubles, honestly ask yourself how much you think your time is worth ($8/hr? $15/hr?) The Infinite Coin costs ~$7. Is that $7 worth saving you hours of farming? It is for most people. I honestly spent more on freaking Wendy’s last night…

I realize that you need to purchase the upgrades as well, but this can all be done on Infantile mode and should not result in deaths (other than Moto Finger area).

To summarize: It cost me probably 1200 baubles in Continue Coins to finish Normal mode W1 and W2 completely, including all achievements. Total bauble cost is higher since you have to purchase the upgrades, but we are talking about death cost, not upgrade cost. This is all very reasonable for a game. Those that complain really didn’t try hard enough. It got difficult and they quit. It’s a scary trend we’re seeing in the youth of today. If they aren’t great at something right away, they quit and try something else. Too much instant gratification, no one takes the time to learn how to do anything anymore.

NOTE: You can also get continue coins from JP chests, so think creatively if you want to boost your Continue Coins.

EDIT: Upon watching no death guides for Trib mode I have now realized the Infinite Coin is not needed at all. If you can’t afford the ICC, watch guides on how to do Trib mode and you’ll be fine.

- Let’s add a completely optional, billed to be old school hard mode that is so hard, where they die so often, that they will NEED infinite lives like some of those old games required
- GENIUS!!!

Fixed that for you.

Beating GW2 on Normal Mode unlocks Easy Mode

I’m confused though… “there is no point” I feel is an invalid, inaccurate, and misleading statement.

Fair, I suppose. The point is that it is BiS. Do you need BiS to complete any content is the big question, and the answer is unequivocally NOPE. Every bit of content can be completed in Rare gear, heck even Masterwork.

(I don’t personally consider upper level FoTM “content”. If you’ve played all of the Fractals on level 1 difficulty, you’ve experienced the content, and you can certainly complete level 1 with sub-par gear. Wanting to do higher levels doesn’t change the content, just adds difficulty, I mean if my level 14 ranger can beat FoTM 1, then anyone can…)

entire playerbase crys/whines that new tier is to grindy and will take to much time so their going to quit.

I love how they complain it is too grindy and will take too long when I’ve seen people already running around with Ascended weapons. So, uh….about a week is too grindy huh? The complaint threads really make me ashamed to call myself a gamer. We need to have a term that differentiates mature, intelligent, understanding gamers from the entitled, whiny brats that currently make up a large % of us.

1800 gems for a server transfer? Why!?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

There were free transfers when the game launched. People would transfer to another server to spy on their WvW rivals. The reason for the server charge is to prevent guilds from moving easily from server to server, thus everyone goes to the winner servers, and no one is left defending the other ones.

The WvW players demanded a high price for a transfer and in fact, some have said the price isn’t high enough.

WoW is a game with a $15 a month sub that still charges $25 for a server transfer…and you can’t pay in in game gold to get that.

I’m not quite sure what your problem is OP.

People just don’t like to spend money for something they feel they should get for free. Not sure why OP thinks that a game he is playing for free should offer a major service like this for free, but clearly he does. My gem store purchases this month will cover his stinginess luckily. Company has to make money somehow and I’m happy to support Anet with my hard-earned $$. (Unless it is RNG- they won’t get another penny out of me for RNG items in gem-store, jeez what a racket.)

I realize not everyone has the money to spend, and Anet knows that too. Luckily there is a decent-sized minority of players like me that can afford it and will keep the game funded. I have no qualms spending money. They saved me $15/mo, the least I can do is spend at least that in the gem-store for them.

Race to disallow people to play another games

Impossible to BiS gear 8 characters? Uhm, how is it impossible? Maybe it’s impossible for you to gear 8 characters in the ONE YEAR since the game’s release, but what do you really expect? That is one of the most ludicrous complaints I’ve ever heard on these forums.

Game sucks because I can’t gear all 8 of my characters in the first year of release. Sounds like its working as intended…

Some of the best players I’ve ever seen in this game have a fraction of the AP that I do (I have ~7600). Who gives a rat’s kitten how many achievement points people have, you don’t magically become a better player or get any stronger because of it.

All of your complaints are completely superficial and honestly come off a bit spoiled. I’m curious what your MMO background is after that post. I can only think of a few games that hand out gear as easily as you seem to expect it. One big one really comes to mind.

If you compete for leaderboard spots then you are no longer playing “your way”. Or at least “your way” includes competition now. So “your way” has to involve mirroring someone else’s “way”. For all we know the guy in #1 actually is playing “his way”. If you want to play “your way” and keep up with the progress he’s making playing “his way” then you are going to have to play “his way” and not “your way”. Make sense?

You can’t say you want to be on the leaderboard and also want to be able to play “your way”. That just won’t work. You have to play whatever way will keep you on the leaderboard, if that isn’t how you like to play then you don’t get to be on the leaderboard. It’s a conscious decision to want to be on the top and with that comes a lot of repetitive, grindy gameplay. Embrace falling down the list if you can’t hang.
