It is PUG capable content. The PUGs will figure it out over time, you will see.
No they won’t.
Not in the numbers you need and the activity you need.
“Stand here when pressing 1” and “Stand here to avoid attack” are not the same as what pugs need to learn to do this event.
One day you will eat those words. There will never be an overflow where 100% are complete noobs. Someone will know what is going on and will instruct via Map chat. All of those complete noobs will (hopefully) read the direction. Likely wipe anyway, but they are now one step closer to understanding the fight.
It can be as easy as making sure that only knowledgeable people get on the turrets. That in itself will prevent a lot of the BS waste of time that is happening right now.
This isn’t a 2week LS event, Teq will be like this FOREVER. The noobs will stop being noobs, it will happen, you shall see.
Prediction: 60 days from now everyone will be congratulating Anet on how awesome that fight is. Even all of the people who keep whining about failure will likely have completed it at least once by then and you’ll only hear crickets from complainers. Time will tell I suppose.

Toad also is randomly not registering the jewel throw when I have never had a problem before.
Make sure you are targetting him and not his necklace when you throw it. I had the same issue and was starting to get mad when I realized I wasn’t targetting King Toad but rather his necklace.

Yikes, drops are that bad? They will be hard-pressed to keep people running this boss if the rewards are meh. It will go the way of the Karka Queen.
I mean seriously, what’s the harm in a guaranteed Exotic versus a Rare? Don’t want to flood the already flooded Exotic item market?
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
It is PUG capable content. The PUGs will figure it out over time, you will see. Too many people are still first timers to the content and thus high failure rate. Overtime the PUG population will collectively become more experienced until you are left with only PUG members that know what they are doing, or are able to direct less useful people more appropriately.
Hard content is hard, get over it….
The question is, will they still bother? On some servers Karka Queen is a dead event. Same as Balthazar. Even though both are way easier from Tequatl.
If the rewards are substantial then yes. If we’re talking 2 blues, a green and a yellow item, then it will ghost town pretty quick and/or once all the achieves are achieved it will ghost town (why do something significantly harder if you can get the same rewards from significantly easier content). But if, say, Teq has a significantly higher Exotic/Pre-cursor drop rate, then it will be run quite often, and odds are the experienced people, even if they get stuck in Overflow, will become quite vocal in exactly how the fight needs to go and pretty much harass people into learning the fight. In the end everyone wants to maximize gains.

Tribulation mode was designed to be painful. It’s called TRIBULATION MODE and you access it by talking to an Angry rain cloud and choosing “Yea I’m into that kind of thing. Don’t judge me!”
If you thought it was going to be anything but painful then you need to re-evaluate your reading comprehension.
If people fail 99% in the beginning of content release that is called normal. Especially when people go into it blind, not knowing the mechanics at all. Look at how many servers have completed it now compared to the first day. It’s up to what, 7? 8? Some of those completing it multiple times?
Should wait at least 30 days before you begin to cry. Give people a chance to learn it and such. It’s exactly like SAB Trib. Day ONE: OMG ITS SO HARD I HATE THIS WTF ANET!!! Day TEN: TRIB MODE IS AWESOME ITS FINALLY HARD CONTENT AND I LOVE IT!!
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I think the reason it stresses me so much is because of the parallels that are being brought up to raid bosses. My inner competitor is raging because the ability to defeat him is completely out of my control whether I wanted to defeat the content 1 day after release or not.
Yes, sadly that is unavoidable. There are world encounters that require mass coordination (this being the first, the rest are zerg fests). You may lose out on Achievement points, but choosing not to do the Teq fight really won’t change much in your day to day playing. I know I’ve only killed him maybe 5 or 6 times in the entire year of playing. If I choose to ignore this entire LS I can honestly say I won’t feel like I inconvenienced myself.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Wait until the prestige kills are over with and they nerf him down to acceptable levels.
I highly doubt that will happen considering he has been defeated already and it’s what, day two? Sounds like he’s a cakewalk if you actually have a group of competent players and not mindless #1 spammers.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
That something can be beaten doesn’t mean it’s fun. I simply don’t enjoy that sort of content. Had I wanted that, there would have been plenty of games for me to buy other than GW2. There is a -reason- why I bought this one, you know?
Well there are dozens of other world bosses you can fight, or not fight, who really cares you can do whatever you want in this game or whatever you don’t want. I didn’t like Liadri in the Gauntlet because I didn’t want to put the effort into learning the fight—so I didn’t fight her…I also didn’t complain that it wasn’t fun, I just didn’t effing do it.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
It’s like this now because no one knows what the eff they are doing. Just wait and you will see the community come together to defeat him. Sir Herpalot (sounds like he’s been with too many hookers) will disappear. Eventually you will be left with players like you continuing to try and defeat Teq. Failing is hated universally. The ones that don’t want to put the effort into winning will just stop showing up because of the repair/WP costs associated with wiping constantly. In time the ones with the perseverance to learn the fight will be the only ones showing up.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Don’t instance it. The idiots that keep dying will eventually stop showing up because they will realize they can’t just zerg their way to victory. In the end you will be left with people that care enough to learn the fight.
Ok, then ONLY People with a great pc can do it. HOW DO YOU THINK People can learn the fight if their computer are not powerful enough? There are so much users that frames are inefficent and all is deadly slow. There aren’t so much people with a good pc playing GW, but I always tought that this game was especially for casual players.
Teq for Casual? Ahahahah! I like the challenge, but too much people and the kitten ed TIME is too short! You cannot pretend that a lot of strangers (like 60) can coordinate each other perfectly unless there are several guilds that coordinates theirselves.
I play GW for so long that these things seem to me more and more like to WOW. Things like farming … before even existed. Anet, that’s happening to you?
Well, that’s bound to happen to everyone at some point. Games require better and better equipment to run it. Not sure why your computer has trouble, my computer is from 2009 (I will admit it was pretty beast back then), but I run everything maxed out with ~40FPS. In large groups like the Teq fight I probably drop to ~12FPS, but still doable and I can always lower my settings if I absolutely must have smoother frames.
If you are complaining that your computer can’t handle it, then there is a pretty obvious solution to that. No one can avoid upgrading their computers forever.

You’re lucky to be in the right game. Like an Asura once said : “Think inside the box”. Tired of playing the way you’re playing ? (Which is surely DPS). Well here’s your time to change and switch build. Since you have Celestial Items, you won’t have to change your gear.
If you’re a certain build, try to play with some skills and traits, you might be surprised at how polyvalent the gineer is.
I have an engineer too and on the top of my head I can think of at least 3 ways of playing it without even knowing the class too much.
Remember, think inside the box and have fun trying things out and toying with the skills.
*Elixirs: Unreliable due to RNG
*Turrets: More than 20 bugs and don’t attack world bosses
*Gadgets: Underpowered and overly situational
*Kits: I’ve been using kits for six months and just plain sick of them
*Rifle: Better as a control weapon rather than damage, forcing you to rely on the above flawed skill types for damage
*Pistols: Balanced for a level of condition damage they do not apply
*Shield: The only worthwhile weapon the engineer has
*Cosmetic progression: Non-existent due to kit dependency
*Developer attention to our issues: Next to none because we’re only 10% of the communityTrust me, I’ve tried every build with the engineer; they are either under powered, bug ridden, or too situational to be of use in PvE. And the worst part is that no one at Arena Net gives a skritt’s butt about engineer balance or bugs. That was proven when it took them almost a year (in spite of countless threads) to even acknowledge that the scope trait was bugged, let alone bother to fix it.
You’re looking at it the wrong way….
You seem to be completely focused on the best possible build, which is always going to be one specific build. That does NOT mean the others are not viable. You may kill things slower, but in exchange you get to experience a completely different playstyle.
If you limit yourself only to the best, most effective build for any given class then you will be bored out of your mind.
Play the other weapons/builds for….and here’s where it may get confusing for you….FUN! There is no build that will make your character unable to complete content. They just won’t let you complete it as fast/efficiently, but that’s the fun! Taking the road less traveled!
I think you misunderstand where I am coming from; I do play for fun and my own enjoyment. I was using a flamethrower/elixir gun build back before the big class update when everyone started doing it. I was I dislike grenades so I don’t use them for that reason, in spite of everyone assuring me they are the best engineer damage option, and I loved my flamethrower back in a time when everyone was assuring me that it was underpowered and worthless.
The problem is I simply don’t like the rifle, I don’t like the pistols, I don’t like turrets because of all the bugs, and I am growing bored with kits. Furthermore I don’t like the engineer anymore because Arena Net blatantly ignores all its problems and there is absolutely no endgame (and in a game wherein “endgame” is about cosmetic progression that means someone, somewhere, did something very, very wrong). And on a side note, I am getting to the point where I don’t like the game in general because every single one of the professions we have I either see as “meh” or fundamentally broken. (Don’t get me started on the thief. Seriously; you don’t want to go there.)
I found Elementalist to be pretty fun. Especially Scepter/Dagger. Dunno if you want to try that.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Some boons/conditions are indeed passive effects, but the depth comes from creating builds around specific boons/conditions.
Sure you could play a Ranger that automatically puts on bleed and you may wonder “if it just goes on automatically then why even think about it”, but you could also spec your Ranger to specifically focus on Bleed condition.
Same goes for boons. Sure my Guardian can apply health regen when I use X skill, but I can also spec traits and gear so that when I apply X boon it also applies Y boon and increases duration. Sometimes these boons can be something as important as stability so now you have another stun-breaker when before you only had 1 or two options. It’s really all about how you spec your character. Good players don’t just spam boons. They know what skills apply which boons and will use them accordingly. When I know a boss will do an AoE knockdown, I save my Stand Your Ground! ability until I see them using it, now the whole team stays standing. A bad player would just mash their shouts as soon as CD is up.
This 100% applies to PvP. A good team versus a bad team is very obvious when you look at their boon usage. Thief just popped up and is wreaking havoc on one of your squishies? AoE Retaliation and Protection/Regen.
Don’t just blindly mash buttons.
I think most people do this because they don’t have to do it any other way in most PvE encounters, but there’s more to it than what it seems on the surface.

I both agree and disagree with OP. First of all, every two weeks is fine as long as the content is two-weeks’ worth. Not one person here can say this Tequatl LS release is too much content to complete in 2 weeks because it isn’t. It’s a boss fight, that’s it. No dungeons, no grinding this or that. It’s 100% doable in the time frame.
SAB: This is released for 4 weeks. Also plenty of time to complete every bit of content.
So while I agree with the premise of the argument OP is trying to make, I don’t feel it applies here with the current LS releases (SAB and Teq). It seems Anet has listened and is releasing things that can be completed within the time frame. They realized SAB was a lot so it is 4 weeks, updating Teq fight is a 2 week update and is the appropriate amount of content.
Now if SAB was only here for 2 weeks I’d be like “WTF not enough time!” But actually look at the recent releases and you will see that Anet is indeed doing what they can to make it easier on casuals.
At least from my point of view.

This isn’t pokemon, evolution takes a long time. The Teq species has finally struggled enough it is environment it has finally adapted to increase its own survival. This is a totally natural occurrence throughout the history of life, just ask Charles Darwin.
Except the Teq that is evolving is the same Teq we’ve been fighting, unless what you’re saying is that each time we kill Teq, a new Teq is hatched and grows up and fights us. Even Darwin would never say species evolve mid-life, it’s over the course of generations. Not like Teq can just cocoon itself and then pop out like Butterfree.
…or can he?

Why do you want it so there’s one guy specialised for support?
Do you get some kind of kick out of doing nothing besides looking at HP bars and boons?
How is that any worse than you getting a kick out of watching monster health bars go down?
I can honestly say I don’t stare at monster health bars…I glance at them periodically, but just watching them? Nope. Healers would literally just stare at party member HP. As an ex raid healer for several years I know for a fact all I had to do was stand at spot X then stare at health bars the entire fight. It didn’t matter what went on around me as long as I kept their HP up. It is a terrible way to play a game, I don’t know why I did it for so long. For the loots I suppose.
I don’t know what kind of raids you did, but as a former raid healer/tank/dps myself…I remember very few raid’s where I had the luxury of just standing in one spot watching health bars..
You see, the raids(and dugeons as well) I remember doing…healing was second to positioning. Healers had to play very actively during the fights to keep not only the team alive, but themselves as well…it was an intense, heart pounding experience…which is VASTLY lacking here in GW2!
I honestly don’t know what this talk about standing in one spot watching health bars is coming from…
Gonna date myself here, but: most MC encounters, Karazhan encounters, SSC encounters, Gruul, Mag: I mean obviously there were times when you needed to move out of an area that would be targetted with AoE or something, but 100% of those were called out in Vent. I would just stare at HP bars, hear “OK he’s about to use X attack get into position” move to there, stare at HP bars, “Drak you are bomb!” move out a bit, stare at HP bars. “Boss is at 25%!!” Move to designated spot to avoid whatever the boss does at 25% HP, etc etc.
Without vent sure I would have had to pay attention, but everyone I know used a voice chat software and every detail was called out by the raid leader so I really only had to stare at HP bars/statuses and follow simple instructions on where to run and when. Pretty sure most people had this experience as a raid healer. Maybe I’m the odd man out who knows. Especially if you run something dozens upon dozens of times you really do end up just staring at HP bars.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Just based on how this game is designed, I don’t think one shot mechanics can really be called artificial difficulty.
Anyway, there are two sides to this coin. Some people cry that hard content is too hard, while others cry that ‘hard’ content is too easy.
As much as I love complaining that ANet doesn’t supply much difficult content, I try to understand their situation.
I’m talking about stuff like the last boss in I think it’s CoE story mode, where he literally has killing shot as a skill. It’s just not fun…for me at least.
One-shot mechanics have forced me to become more vigilant at the very least. Knowing that one particular attack will kill me instantly if I don’t avoid it has made me a better player in general I feel.
It’s like SAB trib mode, I can honestly say I’m a better jumper now that I’ve completed it. At first I was frustrated, but over time I got better and better at timings and spatial awareness (if that can exist in a video game) and I honestly feel it even improved my problem solving skills. On so many occasions after dying 15 or so times trying to get somewhere I would just stop, look around, and brainstorm for creative solutions to get from point A to point B. Maybe if I go around the back side of this tree, or maybe I really can make this jump that looked impossible.
Sure there were times when the fun was sucked out of my body and replaced with hatred and disdain, but I could say that for anything that results in repeated failure until success.

So you want to be able to play the game, but do no questing, PvP, crafting, JPs, leveling or work toward better gear.
If you don’t mind my asking, why the heck did you purchase an MMO?
You are left with WvW, LivingStory (SAB atm), or Activities (Keg Brawl, Belcher’s Bluff, Sanctum Spring, etc.)
You basically said you want to figure out something to do that isn’t PvP or PvE related, so uh, go play a single player game?

I think the most glaring issue with your post is that nothing in GW2 requires specific gear (outside of high level FoTM or speed runs). You can complete every dungeon, every exp path, every fractal, every world boss, literally everything in greens and yellows. I’ve done it successfully on alts. You can complete every bit of content with ease in whatever armor set up you want, Celestial, Berserver, PVT, literally anything and have no problem. If you know your class enough to be able to mitigate/avoid damage then it makes no difference what you wear. The only thing that changes when focusing on gear is completion speed. If you want to do speed runs then gear for it, but that doesn’t mean you can’t complete the same exact dungeon slightly slower with different armor setups.
I’ve completed up to FoTM10 on my alt who is all YELLOW and some GREENS. No wipes at all. Played with guildies who I’ve done countless runs on our mains and so we mess around with alts. Seriously little difference because we know the encounters, know how to evade what needs to be evaded, etc.
If you want to do high level FoTM or specifically do dungeon speed runs then you will want specific gear, but to say that one armor set-up is detrimental to a group compared to another when doing 99% of GW2 content is complete ignorance. Maybe 2% of the GW2 population is doing high level FoTM and regular speed runs that require specific gear set-ups. Everyone else in the game can wear whatever they want and still be able to complete content easily.
It honestly seems like you thought you were the kitten in WoW with a sweet gearscore and are trying to bring that mentality over to GW2 and it just doesn’t fit. It’s waaaay to casual friendly for all that nonsense.

Or better yet, let’s say halfway through, or every quarter of a level you get a new flute song unlocked. At the start of each zone you can play that flute song and it will warp you to whatever checkpoint that song is for. You could lock it like current flute songs in that unless you unlock the song it wouldn’t do anything, so that would keep people from giving free rides. Checkpoints would have to work like Trib mode so that just touching a checkpoint doesn’t let the other members just suicide to the further spot.
So basically it would be shortcuts if you are playing solo mode only.

Shortcut eagle guide: It is the same pattern each time. You will be attacked from the rear by 4 waves of bees before the front bees come. While the bees come from the rear, just strafe left to right the entire length of the eagle. They have TERRIBLE leading mechanics so they will come nowhere close to hitting you. Once you have gotten through the 3rd volley of the rear ones the front ones will come around the same time as the 4th rear volley—> get behind the eagle head ASAP. You should still avoid that last rear volley. There will be 4 front volleys and then the rear volleys will come again, this time with 3 volleys before the front bees appear again. Do the same thing. Strafe left to right to easily avoid the rear bees. When the last volley (3rd volley this time) shows up the front bees will be coming as well, get behind that eagle head ASAP. Front bees do another 4 volleys I believe before the final round of rear bees, which consists of 4 volleys again. Do the strafe thing to easily avoid the rear bees, when you see the 4th volley of rear bees come through, get to eagle head ASAP and wait. The eagle will end before another round of rear bees.
If you follow this guide you will get through without taking any damage and at the very worst you will be hit by the final rear volley but will be behind the eagle head anyway so you don’t fall off. Remember, the bees only do 1heart of damage so you can mess up a few times as long as you are behind that eagle’s head.
Hope this helps.

Personally I lost all motivation when 2-1 was reasonably long and then 2-2 took me forever. No zone should take more than a half hour to run through just because of length and not difficulty.
Plus I still can’t beat the King Toad solo even the second time around so even though the general idea is fun I’m kinda frustrated by the whole thing at this point.
Length is a legitimate concern, World 2-2 and 2-3 are unnecessarily long for such early zones.
King Toad I’m honestly shocked you are having trouble. On Trib mode I could see, but on Normal? When you see him bounce his butt up and down, get over to one of the stone squares otherwise you will take damage. When he finishes that, run up to him, melee his necklace, grab a crystal. You may take a hit from one of his side attacks, but if you run to the opposite lillypad from the side he is stomping you will avoid damage. Take the crystal to the stone square and wait until you see him look left to right, that means he’s about to open his mouth. Run up to him, toss the crystal in, then melee him. When he comes to, run back to the square then repeat the process. It will likely take 3-4 rounds of this to finish him unless you have the nunchucks, in which case two rounds is sufficient.
It’s possible to do all of this without taking one heart of damage once you know the pattern.

Complaining about the assassins? Really?
Bust out your slingshot and rapid fire them, three shots and the melee ones are dead, you can shoot them while they run toward you or toss a bomb at them then finish them with one melee strike. The ranged assassins are a joke as you just need to lazily step to the side to avoid their attacks.

If you are playing for achievement points then I can see why you would be overwhelmed. I think this is your first mistake. In order to be competitive in AP you will need to be able to accomplish all daily categories (PvP and PvE/WvW) as well as all LS achievements. That in itself is at least a 2hr commitment each day strictly for the daily categories and doesn’t even include the LS. In order to do this you need to play a LOT of GW2, more than any full-time employed family man can muster, hence your frustration.
Solution: just embrace that you will not be an AP leader. It’s OK, really it is. Once you free yourself from the pressure of “keeping up with the Jones’” you will feel the relief that others like me have felt. You learn to relax and do things if you want to. Didn’t finish all of those LS achievements? Whatever, who cares! That’s how I feel now and it’s liberating!
Ascended gear: I was against at first, but assuming this is the ONLY tier they are adding between exotic and legendary I am 100% for it. Think about it. You have 9 characters in full exotic (game is 1year old = sounds super easy to gear up, a little too easy for any game to have longevity, let’s be honest here, if you can level up and gear NINE characters in one year, playing semi-regularly, then something is definitely wrong— people will quit playing because they have hit a wall). In all actuality you should be happy they added another tier of gear, now you have guaranteed tasks to focus on, one character at a time. If you are honestly concerned that you have to do more gearing up on your 9 characters after one year, then clearly you didn’t not plan on playing this game for much longer. Look at the long term, if gearing all 9 characters in Ascended is what you want then you are guaranteed many more years of playing.
You aren’t alone in how you feel, but I honestly feel that you and others like you feel this way because of some phantom being that compels you to get 100% achievements. If you look at everything from that perspective then you will never be happy.
I mean seriously, your characters are fully geared in exotics, what are they not able to do that someone with an ascended weapon is able to? There are no gear checks, all of the content in GW2 can be completed by people in Rares. If your characters look the way you want them to look then you’re golden.
As a casual player who used to be hardcore (stupid life and responsibilities getting in the way) there are some things you have to sacrifice. For me it was getting all achievements. For example, the Clockwork LS. I went to at least 12 different invasions. Did I get all achievements for doing invasions in X number of zones? Nope, did I miss out on any content? Nope, just an achievement.
It’s all about perspective.

Holy kitten yes Konig. They should treat skins like they do with the Zenith/Radiance stuff. I have so many skins taking up space in my bank because I don’t necessarily want to use them yet so now it’s just bank filler. If they treated skins in PvE like they treat them in PvP (ie PvP locker) I’d be in freaking Heaven. I don’t care if I have to use a Tmute crystal to save them or something, heck even 5 crystals, if it meant I could access the skins whenever I wanted.

Lol @ 20 continue coins on World 1. This thread is great! What would having a group help you accomplish that you can’t do on your own? In a group HP scales on the boss so time spent is still equal. Monsters all die in a couple of hits save for the bosses.
For King Toad there is a pattern you need to follow and then it is cake.
SAB is so soloable my freaking girlfriend has done it alone. For the record she is still mastering the WASD concept…

The tribulation ones are easier to obtain than the regular skins.
Many would disagree with you. Secondly, what is easier, doing trib mode for the skin, or going to TP and purchasing the blue skin you want in 3secs? Easier, not cheaper.

Agreed they should involve the dragons more, or expand the Personal Story to include the other dragons, but I can say quite confidently that they never promised that the Living Story would be all about the dragons.

Whoa flashback to like 5 months ago with this thread.
Living Story is designed to have a linear timeline versus a perpetual one. Things that happened in the past stay in the past, you can’t re-experience them. That’s the whole point! They are trying something no one else has tried and I commend them for it. As someone who has played since early release I think it is awesome.
I can also understand why people who left GW2 for a long period of time wouldn’t like the Living Story, but in all honesty, you’re not really the target market for LS. I feel like the Living Story is designed to keep players who still currently play playing so that they don’t miss any of the content, versus content designed to bring people back to playing.
On more than one occasion when speaking with guildies about something in the past I’ve referred to it such as, “you know back when the Molten Alliance was attacking” or “Back during the attack on Southsun”. It gives the game more depth.

Still not understanding why Incinerator needs a change. Is it because others got a change so you feel that something that is arguably the best looking Legendary in the game also needs a change? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Save up at least 400 baubles as you will need the upgraded candle (Torch) in order to progress in W2Z3. The shop to buy the torch is right next to the spot you need to use the torch to progress so it is extremely obvious.

40min is good, but 20min extra is absolutely unacceptable? Uhhh….wha….?
::At restaurant::
Waiter: Would you like some grated cheese?
Me: Sure!
Waiter: Let me know when.
Me: Keep it coming!
Waiter: How’s that?
Me: A little more…

Me: A little bit more…

Me: Whoa that’s too much I can’t eat this, take it back.

Good suggestion. For normal mode only of course.

W2Z2 has a couple of bugged areas that are pretty frustrating.
