Seems like everyone is having about the same luck. I feel like everything I do on DPS guard, I can do better on my thief/Mesmer/warrior
Yes please!

Read your first sentence again. That discredited you right off the get go. “Marauder (aka previous Zerk stats) was never the best option to fight and win team fights.” That alone shows how ill informed you are. Instantly die to Condi bombs? If trained we have a max of 5 condi cleanses. Learn to use them. Too dependent on focus? Staff is trash in a marauder build. leave the offheals to the celes. We give blinds/aegis/aoe condi clear.
You remind me of a guy I was guildies with. He would go on and on about “guardians using zerker are fools.” He was a WvW hero and thought that meant something. So I finally dueled him one day. He lost 4 duels off the bat and rage quit. His excuse? “You only win because you dodge/blind my big attacks…”
Medi guard with Marauder-Amulett was never the best option to fight and win any teamfights. If your focus on teamfights with premades, go for cele/cleric/soldier amulet.
Otherwise you can try following setup for 1on1 and teamfight (in soloQ) – avoid to camp “mid”. Better run & fight to close or outer:
Amulett: marauder
Weapons: GS (Condi Remove on Crit / Hydromancy) | Staff (5% damage / Hydromancy) —> hydromancy is really strong when you hit someone! 5% boost your Staff-autoattack enough (and far better with class skill #1)
Traits: Radiance (2-1-1), Valor (2-2-2), Virtues (1-2-3)
Wut..? Zerk Medi was a staple of the previous meta. Hammer medi could shift the team fight with a well played JI/Ring. Why would anyone run cele/cleric/soldiers on a medi guard? I have doubts about staff too. Giving up focus didn’t feel right. Staying alive in a team fight isn’t all that difficult with proper positioning, but I still feel lackluster compared to my other zerker counter parts. Maybe I’m just jealous of all the gimmicks that other classes have going for them right now.
I’m not trying to attack you for giving advice/opinions, but you seem ill informed.

Power Medi feels really lackluster right now compared to the other things flying around PvP. What builds are people trying?
I’ve tried:
Gs-Sc/F using Valor, Virtues, Zeal (decent damage / super squishy)
Gs-Sw/F using Valor, Virtues, Radiance (good in 1v1 / meh in teamfights)
Ham- Mc/F using Valor, Virtues, Honor (oddly successful / lightfields for days.. )
What else have people came up with?
As of now, I feel like my only options are Bunker or Gimmick burn.
UPDATE: I’ve been using the following build and loving!

The idea is to activate your Virtue of Justice before you JI in. This immob has help me land many successful “1 shots.” I use GS mainly for burst, but most of your auto attack dmg will come from sword. The decrease sword cooldowns also help you keep targets in reach. Travelers is a preference of mine for when I solo queue. In a group I use pack
Enjoy!

you can quote me all you like, shield has it uses, but for simple minded people like you that cant see it, you say its no good, how about instead of telling you, you can always 1v1 me and find out how to use it competively
Please tell me you’re NA? I’d love to make you look foolish
You’re suggestion is way overpower. Our mobility is fine if you use travelers or run staff. What we need is a disengage. Make JI or MI ground targeted. ( not this junk about ground targeted if there is an ally)
If rangers aren’t important enough to be re-included in the game’s practice section, I wonder how it stacks up to other classes when balance updates take place.
It appeared for a brief time with the Halloween content when the water combat section opened up.
It’s just really sad when a main class isn’t represented when all the other classes are present. Maybe people will complain less about rangers being OP if they had the means to practice against it, even if it’s only an NPC.
Why do you care about Rangers, when you’re obviously a necro?
(Hint: this thread is 11 months old)
My 3 key isn’t prepared
In solo play, I can consistently keep up 1-1.5k burn ticks, with spikes hitting as high as 2.5k. .
can you post a video of you doing this during a minute long engagement? Use a golem for all I care. I’d love to see it.
Don’t disappoint me now
I love when I hit a stun break and nothing happens… So I start mashing it until it responds. For extra frustration, when shadowstep finally responds, it sends me back to the original location.
For anyone who has ever had the pleasure of playing with Cruuk, aka Chairforce, this quote from him should make you laugh.
He then proceeded to rage quit while we were winning with a score of 450 – 425
Due to its current unintended behavior, the Symbolic Avenger trait has been temporarily disabled until the next scheduled release. If you were using this trait, we suggest you select a different one until the trait is re-enabled.
Glad to see engi favoritism still in play! At least I know class to pick if I always want to be top dawg.
I like you, 15chars
Finally found someone that cries more than you?
1. I love this, but it’s also pushing d/p to be the only optimal choice. The others are viable, but in doing so, you are gimping yourself.
2. With DA / Trickery being a must, it leaves us with one other option. SA to live longer, CS to burst (but die to a stiff breeze), and acro to feel disappointment. SA is really the only choice for you ‘average’ thief. Top tier 1%er thieves can probably make CS work, but for Joe Thief, its rough.
3. Feline Grace was the bread and butter for acro. The change to it is what really screws up S/D. Dodges are S/Ds lifeline. Without on demand access to stealth, S/D has many vulnerable periods.
4. I don’t like letting conditions play the game for me.
5. Executioner for me. With thief being shoehorned into the +1 profession, this helps me finish off foes.
6. Dagger Storm can be fun in zergs, but I don’t find it all that useful in sPvP play compared to basi venom. Thieves guild.. LOL
Please ban every engi exploiting this in competitive pvp.
It’s super annoying and I hate watching it happen, but your solution is too extreme. Why punish someone for using the tools that ANET has given to them? Who is really at fault here?
1. Feel my wrath is great in PvE / WvW. Not worth giving up RF in sPvP. Signet of Courage is bad in every situation. The passive is sooo lack luster and the active’s cooldown/cast time make it useless.
2.Power Medi’s lack of disengage is making it more difficult, but still playable. I think you will be seeing to slowly fade out of tournament play.
3. Symbols are okay in pve, but in PvP no. In order for symbols to be affective in PvP, your enemy must be ignorant enough to stand in them and eat damage. Relying on an opponents ignorance is bad design.
4. Overall, Guardian is doing ‘okay,’ but we’re very lackluster compared to other classes right now. In an ever evolving game, our inability to properly disengage severally caps our skill ceiling. There is not much room to grow as a guardian once you hit a certain point. The “First in; last out” design is really limiting our ability to adapt in this ever changing meta. The simple solution would be to make JI or MI ground targeted.

Now, I was pulled by engineer and the thief just capped me. That’s bit to strong don’t you think.
There are a lot of factors to weigh in, before you can say something is too strong. What we can’t see it, did you have vulnerability? Did the thief have might stacks? Was he full glass (zerker, da/cs, etc).
So a glass mesmer does a lot of damage to a class with no toughness..
And burn stacks that are not cleansed instantly do 5k per tick.
Cool..
Are we gonna talk about how anet buffed stats too high or nah?
He’s pseudo esports. You wouldn’t understand.
LMAO. With Mesmer 10~20 secs of stealth, they can stealth in places that you can’t see and come near you and spike you. There’s no “positioning” in it at all. How can you prevent something you can’t even see on your screen? Also their burst damage is so high since they did all the preparation while in steath, so you’d eat a full combo if you don’t have invulnerable skills.
Guess you’re those mesmers who do that.
If you’re roaming ALONE in conquest, without a stun break, built squishy, then yeah getting killed is the risk that you take.
Except not everyone is running premades and not every pugger is smart.
So you want the game balanced around pugs and 1v1s rather than team play? yeah..
All I’m hearing is “I built for full DPS which is only viable thanks to my ridiculous amounts of stealth and think that being able to reset fights/stun more than your average build has stunbreaks is totally fair and not OP”.
PvP is a team game. Once you survive the initial burst your team needs to peel for you and counter pressure the thief/Mesmer. If the thief is yolo stabbing you to death, you and your team are not doing their job or they are tunnel visioning the other opponents.
Maybe I missed a patch note or something, but the amount of projectiles flying out of this right now seems nuts compared to before. Any one else notice this?

He who holds the hammer wins. The question is, should anybody be voting for this abomination of a map?
Not really. It’s really easy to dodge. Even if your audio is off, it has a windup similar to churning earth. When you see the gravel get to the edge of the AoE circle, dodge.
“How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Speed/Traveler Runes”
Best movie ever.
“How other classes didn’t have to spend 65g to keep up”.
Best sequel ever.
Hi all,
Typically I spend my time trolling the forums, but today I figured I would contribute something. If even one person enjoys this build, I will be pleased. So far I’ve had great success with this build.
The Build: http://intothemists.com/guides/5599-thief_cc_bot
Play style: This build uses devourer venom, basilisk venom, and venomous aura, in order to control the fight and force stunbreaks. Using this CC combined with the high damage of D/P, it is very easy to burst targets down and help your team control their positioning. I’ve found that this build also does well in 1v1 situations.
Don’t forget! Try to give your venoms to as many teammates as possible while not compromising your positioning.
I’m not very long winded, so if you need anymore info than this, feel free to ask questions.
I was thinking mug
Huh. Well, I never was able to max out Deadly Arts before because I maxed Arcobatics and Shadow Arts in prepatch before they allowed us three full specs instead postpatch.
wait wait… you ran max shadow arts AND acro at the same time?
come on man, stop. You’re not helping your case…
They made the spec art of Thief holding a staff so pretty much what we’re getting. It may of been Rifle but they did say they’d change it if they decided something better.
An interesting note. During the Revenant Ventari stream, the devs stated that the staff was originally an offensive melee weapon rather the supportive version. Call me crazy, but I bet they recycle what ever the offensive abilities were and give those to the thief.
I’m guessing that we will receive either mantras or stances with this elite specialization.
Sounds like a case of L2P. L2P is serious and can be fatal if left untreated. Lucky a new and cutting edge procedure has come along and can cure you of your ailment. It’s called, practice! Learn all class abilities and their animations, learn their weaknesses and exploit them, stop placing your forehead on the keyboard and expecting to win.
Fix the server lag in PvP (more so in WvW) and then we can talk. I can’t count how many times someone has appear to be right in front of me, but in reality was several hundred units away. I play with 60-70ish ping and sit around 55fps while in combat, so I doubt it is only me that experiences this.
None cause they aren’t difficult to earn
IDK took me a year to make mine. I only play about two hours a day so I guess thats why. But I understand you can buy them with real money. But let me ask you this, are you guys willing to shell out $300 to $400 on a pixel….
Spending $300 may sound silly, but I’ll tell you a story. When I started to grind for my legendary, I knew it would take months. Hours upon hours of grinding and not enjoying my time play. Then it hit me, I could go to work and do ONE overtime shift and be done with it. So that’s what I did. Went in on my day off, came home, bought my legendary. All in one day.
The favoritism is so blatantly obvious.
Almost forgot
Engineer: “Josh, can I spit it out this time?”
All classes: “I’m underpowered, please buff me and nerf everyone else.”
Great Ranger / Great Stream.
+1
The counterplay to stealth has always been swing wildly in the air and hope you hit something, except that now with this trait doing that is actually rewarded.
Its not like you are auto revealed within a certain distance or anything. There is play on both sides, the engineer has to estimate where the thief could be and the thief has to evade those attacks while getting in poistion to do whatever he needs.
If the engineer watches a thief go into shadow refuge and cant figure out where they are, that player needs an icepick lobotomy.
Shadow refuge removed from my bar. Rez yourself.
This is what they asked for. I will deliver.
Thank you for the response!
If I happen to swap to longbow and shoot of a long range shot, is this going to be the weapon skill that ends up being reduced?
Great video as always!
I like this idea. It opens up more counter play to stealth AND reveal.
Quilja is good to watch, but rarely streams. Booms aka MÔÔbs (thats filtered? really?) is also good to watch. Phanta is a great team player on any class, but I wouldn’t say he’s a top tier guardian.
Wow… Engi overlords win again
Even if there was a report option, it wouldn’t matter. Looking at how many people in SPvP are completely toxic. Calling people autistic, raging hard, blocking then whispering their hate. Have you seen a single one of them banned? Nope. Not to mention that they even disabled dishonor. They’re so desperate to have people play PvP, they turn a blind eye to everything.
