Im very new to Ele and I really enjoy the class, but I have an issue that I can’t seem to solve on my own. While playing D/D in conquest, I don’t have too many issues with sticking to a target. This is mostly due to my ability to fight on points. However, when it comes to WvW roaming, it’s a different story. While learning to roam on ele, I’ve run into an issue that I don’t experience in conquest. People are running away from me! I can’t seem to glue myself to targets. We’ll be fighting it out and they’ll teleport, leap, invis away and I won’t be able to catch them without burning my FGS. ( which I hate to do for chasing)
How to experienced elementalist stick to their targets as D/D?
Meditation guard. DPS class just like thief/mes but is incredibly easy to play. Its literally 2 buttons 2 win, Ring+JI in teamfights= RIP.
Let me tell you. I used to be one of the friendliest people in pvp. I never raged and didn’t mind giving and receiving advice. Now, this new matchmaking system has caused me so much displeasure in PvP, that I’ve become extremely salty. Pugs vs premades. First time players on my team vs WTS players. It’s infuriating.

My matches have been really bad the past few days. . I don’t think I’m some top tier player by a longshot, but I have never been on a losing streak like this….

I promise you nobody likes power ranger. So no skill dude standing on a ledge spamming you down is completely ridiculous.
My idea is to nerf it in a way which allows for counter play. The damage of all longbow skills should be reduced by around 10% so there is counter play to getting to the ranger and maybe killing him if you play well enough.

So how exactly is guardian the worst mobile class when they have perma swiftness?
Swiftness =! Escape Mechanism
Except people are not just talking about escape mechanisms and judge’s intervention hardly had a significant impact on escaping as it relied on you having a target to use it.
If you don’t understand how people use JI to escape, you’re either a PvE player or bad. One of those two.
If you go to youtube and search Yishis; he used to make a lot of videos with commentary. He explained why he did what he did and you can learn neat tricks while watching him.
Chasing target : he/she is at 2000 range away, gs 3# target is 1600 range away. Oh well time for coffee.
You being chased by 3 ppl: Lock other target at 2000 range, push JI, nothing happens. Write /wave and wait until you die.
Works as intended.
With the amount of easy apply slows / snares. Most classes will be able to simply outrun guardian now. Say so long to solo roaming on guardian. Disengage = gone catching a fleeing foe = gone.

Guardians will be kited around all day long. Can’t wait to get people to 15% and watch them LOLOLOLOL away from me across the map. ( I’m looking at you FGS)

Symbol of Battle (DPS Stance) – Fire a slow arcing arrow which explodes on impact, burning targets and searing a symbol of battle into the ground.
Inb4 every class kites guardian to death.
Also, I’ve been considering switch my main to thief. If this change goes live, it will be the tipping point for me. Thieves have their own issues right now, but I don’t think anything is more frustrating that everyone simply running away from you.
The ther half of me worries about escape routes and the guardian half of me worries about catching people running away. (Out of range flashing blade / JI )
Guardian will become slower to engage and easy to run from.

These changes were in the Chinese patches notes as well as the current HoT demo.

I don’t think they ever balance skills around WvW. Especially with them wanting to be esports.
I think these are good suggestions! The only one that I think would cause issues is the second one. Two finishers on one skill would be a bit unfair.
Why do people still think thief is OP? Have they not played one? Is there a misconception of our toolkit? I honestly don’t understand it. What’s more bizarre to me is when it is one of the cele meta classes complaining.

For a simpler view of a guardian with a bow, at 51 seconds a charr in heavy armor dodge rolls away from the boss. At this time selfless daring procs and he weapon swaps to a bow and starts shooting.

Listen bud, you didn’t come in here with a constructive post. You came in crying like a kitten about how you can’t play. There are plenty of successful guardians out there who understand how to play the class. obviously these “accredited” players understand a depth to the class that you cannot comprehend. Keep pressing 1 and 2 on ranger, it is more your pace.
Also: “collage” =/= college

So I’ve always been one of those MMO players that loves to have a main. I like the idea of dedicated most of my time played to one single character. I feel like when I focus on one, I learn so many different little tricks.
Since launch I have played guardian. I have racked up thousands of hours, received my birthday presents, and done my one and only map complete on the same guardian that i made on day one.
However, I recently found myself having much more fun on thief. I love the sneaky style game play and it feels more rewarding in pvp and pve.
After much thought, I really want to make my main my thief. There are just certain things that I can’t seem to get over. One is the amount of time I put into Guardian and another (which will sound silly) is that my new “main” wouldn’t receive their new and shiny birthday gifts when all of the other “day one” players will.
Any thoughts or advice from other players who have been go through with the switch?
This change makes me so frustrated. Chaining teleports to close large gaps is so much fun. This is really going to cause me to rethink my play style. Now, every warrior / ele will bring out their greatsword and disappear off into the sunset.
Also, I really wish Anet would comment on why they feel this change is necessary. There are classes with broken traits, cele in pvp, etc etc. I never heard anyone whine about teleports.
I saw a Thief teleporting on a bridge in Stronghold in the GW2 HoT livestream, so I’m confused now…
I saw that too. I wonder how they are choosing with v-ports are okay and which ones are not.

It’s kinda pathetic that people think Vertical Range is fair game. It’s just as pathetic when people think Guardian is anywhere near hard to play just because it has “instant cast skills” which you can “time.” Couple that with a vertical range teleport, it’s just flat out cancer. Guardian’s don’t need that crap. So do Ele’s. It’s for a greater cause even though Thief and Mesmer will get hit by it.
In-fact if “Guardians” are gonna get worked up over this change then that’s just fail.
i play every class, it doesn’t matter to me if they nerf any one in particular.
but every time they remove something that makes this game more interesting, in this case the use of blink cooldowns to disengage, existing pvpers should complain.
also whatever this guard rant is about, it’ll barely effect guard.
I don’t think its fair to consider exploits ‘interesting’. Secondly, they still can be disengages. You just don’t get to magically end up on a cliff free of harm, the interesting part is out pacing and out positioning your enemy, not taking advantage of poor pathing knowing your enemy can’t.
Lastly, I don’t really find it ‘interesting’ to have a certain few classes who can just disengage whenever they feel like it. People are supposed to die. People complain that bruiser builds don’t die faster enough and that its boring, there’s honestly nothing more eye-roll-provoking than getting a guy to 10% and then him teleporting on a cliff and being completely gone. It might be fun for the guy who just gets a free walk all the time, of course, but its really not interesting. If you want to play glass, take the risk involved. Cop-out mechanics are actually boring for everyone but the user.

My personal views are:
- Stability is okay
- Blind stomping is legit.
- Stealth stomping is fine, you can cc around a downed ally. HOWEVER, I do feel like initiating stomps/finishing stomps on a stealthed person should work, so long as you can find them in stealth just like other attacks. (Would probably require an updated thief downed skill to be fair)However
- Invuln Stomping is not okay in my opinion~ as it offers absolutely 0 counterplay. Long cooldown or not, its just too safe.That’s my unbiased view on it all. (I play necromancer, I basically can’t do anything cool to stomp people, so take it for what it is. :P )
Is there a mechanic in this game that you don’t think is OP? If you want to mash 1 and 2 to win, I’m sure there is an arcade in your nearest city, with a Streetfighter style game.

I find it funny that people kept saying their mesmer/ thief will be destroyed, but truth is very VERY FEW of the player-base can really utilize this advantage like some of the top streamers do. All they can do is use it as an exploit in Kyhlo map to fast travel all parts of map. They don’t use it like some of the most skillful and knowledgable thieves and mesmers, to use all those small ledges to avoid damage.
This “fix” will affect way less than people try to make it be because they don’t even play like those top streamers to begin with. The only difference will probably be just Kyhlo, where people learn those cheap spots to fast travel the ledges.
I’m not a “top streamer” nor do I play one on TV. I’m your average GW2 PvP player and I utilize every tele spot you can think of to quickly travel and to survive. This change effects both of these and upsets me. As a thief my job is to +1 and to decap. If I +1 and get focused, I need to retreat. Removal of these ports will make this increasingly difficult. If I run to an open point to decap with out these transports, other classes will easily respond and prevent the decap. Because unless it’s another squishy, it would be pointless to sit there and 1v1. Playing thief will become increasingly more difficult. Meanwhile I can hop on my ele with bearly 100 hours, drool on the keyboard, and be way more beneficial to my team.
I think people need to understand thieves and mesmers situations a little better. Basically, their meta is composed of one-trick pony a.k.a. gimmick builds. Their only outlets are condi burst or power burst. Stealth and teleport skills/utilities are there to only bolster what little sustain they have really.
Once anet realizes the pvp populations for mesmer and thief have dropped off there’s no saving them having to wait 6 months a balance patch.
Even though both class can be annoying, honestly, their gimmicks are the only thing keeping them in the current meta.

Much earlier in the game, on the Legacy of Foefire, a thief could use shortbow to teleport through the gates instead of breaking them down. Then with thieves guild they could solo the lord, they fixed this and it made the game better
Come on man.. You can’t be this dense. We’re not arguing for cheap kills. We’re arguing because our survivability is poor. This teleports help keeps us ALIVE. I couldn’t give a kitten less about using them for kills. “Well stop running zerker LUL!” Sure, give me an amulet worth using in conquest for thief, other than zerker.
Even if eles had a choice, they would still run cele because it’s stupidly strong… There are so many different builds that people would run if cele ele and cele engi weren’t a thing.

Glorious, people seem to think that we’re upset because we want to instadown people on ledges. Wrong. All other classes have a way to negative damage. Death shroud, shouts, signet of stone, invulnerability. These keep people alive in a fight. The thief and Mesmer use stealth and teleports. Cleave wrecks stealth and now our ports are being taken away. Thief and Mesmer will drop to trash tier, unless we receive some form of survival compensation.
