Dragon Bash - Bashing New Players

in Dragon Bash

Posted by: Eladriel.7295

Eladriel.7295

First of all I was glad to see that the Dragon Bash included activities for all levels of play. I think the idea of the event is great and this isn’t meant to critical of the event designers but the community participating in the event.

First we had the problem of L80’s camping the holos in starter areas and killing them so fast no one else had a shot. Okay, they make this problem less of an issue by increasing the difficulty of the holos. This worked to some degree but the holos were still a constant camp fest leading many players to head to more difficult maps to get their share. Not a big deal unless you are a new player and have only gotten to L15 or less.

Now that it seems that most of the high level players have gotten their holo achievements that problem is gone. Unfortunately, now that those achievements have been completed it has reverted to coffer farming. Since coffers drop at all levels guess where this goes on? Yep starter maps.

Here is my example. I have a friend that just purchased GW2 a week before the event and we were looking forward to enjoying the event together. She was in game a little before the event but mostly to look around because she didn’t really have time until this weekend. We log in so I can help her get started on hearts in Queensdale. Every place we go is a non-stop farm fest by players in exotic gear. We head to the bandit cave because she wants so coffers too. Hmmm…. No bandits at entrance. We head further in a few dead bodies and sounds of players spamming “1”. We wait a second because they respawn fast. 3 spawn she tags one and I help her kill it, this didin’t take long, but now the other 2 are dead before we could even target them with a flash of shiney gear “1” spamming as they fly by.

Okay we head to other areas, guess what? Pretty much every place where there is more than 2 mobs within target range is getting zerg rolled by high level players. Okay, lets try Metrica. Same thing. Lets guest to a low pop server. Same thing. She did a few hearts but they either took much longer than should be or they were ones that didn’t involve combat like that boring one in Beetletun where you run in circles stomping wasp nest and killing rats.

The event pops up to protect water pipes from bandits so we head there. About a dozen players camping the spots where the mobs run in and trashing them before most people even got in range. Thanks!

At one point I politely asked in /map if some of the higher level players would mind if we could use the area we were in for a short bit. Most ignored it but here are some of the responses I got:

“LOL”, “Newb”, “muahahahahaha”.

Needless to say she didn’t feel like playing for very long. While this was disappointing for myself and my friend, there were lots of non-scaled players in the same areas trying to play as well. So I imagine they experienced the same frustration.

Now I’m sure many could say well, go here or there instead, go work map completions in cities, go do personal story, go craft or what not. However, the point is that a new player shouldn’t have to limit their game play because a lot of high level players want to farm coffers to death in low level maps.

Between this, the holo camping, the “afk” in Dragon Ball, the event has really brought out the bad in what is a normally friendly community.

I was hesitant to make this post because I’m sure I’m going to get things like, “stop crying”, I just think that it is unfortunate that those that have been playing at least enough to get to high levels think they should go to the lowest level possible and make things difficult for the low level players who happen to be there for the very reason that they are low level.

I know most reading this are probably not the ones causing the problems. The ones doing this probably don’t read the forums or if they do don’t care. This was meant to be more of a commentary on how the event has brought out the ugly in a community that is usually much better than other MMOs.

tl;dr
Inconsiderate players ruin holos for several days
Inconsiderate players ruin Dragon Ball by perma-“afk”
Inconsiderate players ruin low level maps for low level players by zerg rolling it non stop to farm coffers.

v v v Insert “Welcome to MMO’s” Comments Here v v v

Sad to say this community isn’t very friendly. Not saying there aren’t any friendly players, but there are more unfriendly and inconsiderate players than good ones. If you are able to try finding off times where there aren’t very many players on and holo farm. The thing is the game was build for higher lvls to be able to return to lower lvl. So you can play with your friends. Please don’t let others inconsideration discourage you from playing.. Just ignore them.

That’s a ridiculous and very rude request first of all. Second of all I have a low lvl character that I used to farm in that area on the 1st and 2nd day of the event and had no trouble at all. In fact, it was a great way to lvl up. Lastly, if you were in a party with your friend you should have had an advantage over other players anyway if you properly coordinated.

If he asked how was it rude? I don’t think it was rude at all.. And I have seen this crap go on. For the first two days of the event starting I never saw a holo, why? Cause they were farmed to death and didn’t stay up for very long.

Disappointed in content

I actually don’t mind this event. I appreciate that Arenet is putting effort in releasing events for us. What disappoints me though is the overall content that they’re giving us. There has rarely been any new expansion towards the storyline. Living story? That was hardly anything close to story progression and was merely just another achievement/title to obtain. We’re celebrating a “dragon” bash event and have barely even fought any of the elder dragons nor fought any of the lesser ones in general. Again, I appreciate the events but there really should have been a new major chapter in the story’s progression after all this time already, introducing us to new places/enemies.

You people seem to forget what the point of Living Story… Anet wants a living breathing changing world which is the reason for the living story. While there is a story concerning the dragons.. Well guess what? The world still goes on regardless of the dragons. The world does not wait. The lives of the people in Tyria still go on and new threats and obstacles arise regardless of the threats of the dragons. What? You think those other threats will just sit idle by and wait for the heroes to finish off the dragons before they wreck havoc? Humph, think not.. Too many of you people are just too narrow and one track minded..

Disappointed in content

in Dragon Bash

Eladriel.7295

I’m disappointed that Anet thinks a money sinks, some skins, and grinding achievements, are passable as content..

The skins are decent. Most I think are ugly, but that’s why there are already plenty of skins in the game for different options for different players, so I won’t complain about the skins…except it is ridiculous that it’s complete RNG and luck in order to get these skins.

Then the achievements…like 100 fireworks and 150 pinatas…how are those fun? Running through LA to hit “F” a 250 times on multiple characters or multiple times a day? This is not the excitement or content that I saw in GW1, and definitely did not expect from GW2. All of the content releases so far, with FotM as an exclusion, have been mediocre and, for the most part, temporary.

It seems to be all about the gem store and making money, now….much greedier Anet than the Anet I knew from GW1.

They are content regardless of what you think and it is all optional. You obviously don’t know what greedy means as they aren’t forcing you to buy gems and you can buy them with in game gold.. So, how many more times are we gonna have to read this same lame “Disappointed in content” bash… These post are a dime a dozen and take up wasted space on the forum.

I'm not happy to see other players - looting

It seems to me that with the Wintersday boxes, if someone opened the box and killed the foes inside, if you were within the mini-map radius, the box still was available for you.
Or maybe the loot from the vanquished foes was available. I don’t exactly remember which, but I know I didn’t have to race to the spawn and try to get a hit in to get loot.
Does anyone else remember how it worked? …or am I just old and (more) senile now?

They were still available for a while, but only for a x amount of time. I had picked up a few after the mob was killed cause i had gotten there too late to help.

One of the core-philosophies of this game is the cooperative aspect. You should be happy to see other players.

GW2 has done a great deal to go in the right direction, but there are still problems. Dragon Bash introduced an activity where it get’s very visual: You compete against other players to do enough damage on a mob in order to get it’s loot. While this is imho a big problem in this holiday-event it can also be a problem in the core of the game.

Lv.80 players who visist low level zones are very powerful. Despite backscaling they can do enormous damage to mobs and if there are 2 or more such players it’s difficult to get the participation next to them.

Now we have mining-nodes where every player can get his fair share. Why not take this concept and evolve it to battles? A solution would be to make corpses lootable by everyone around. If you come by too late you can still get your share. You won’t get the xp for killing the mob but you still get loot.

Wait a minute. Did I just say: I get loot when haven’t even participated in the battle? Yes I did. But… how is it rewarding to kill a mob then? Well, you get your loot anyway. Isn’t this BS, he just watched and did nothing… and still gets loot? Yeah, he’s in our team against the dragons, do you remember?

What do you think? Could you live with such a system? Do you think others just don’t earn their loot if they haven’t enough AOE-power with them?

Sorry, but I just don’t stand around and watch others do all the work. There is enough of that crap with the fire ele in Metric Province. I kill something then I get loot. That is my payment, although they don’t always drop anything but ole well.

I’d love to sees a different mechanic (which would kitten people off even more). I’d love to see a guy jump in, kill everything really fast, and get NO reward, because the game was able to tell he was a selfish kitten.

That’s what I’d like to see.

If that happened more often, people wouldn’t act the way they do.

I don’t like your freakin tone.. When I jump in it is to help.. I can’t help if she kills them with a few hits.. I think for now on when I see others need help I’ll just walk on by and let you have it.. I refuse to help another kitten person. Hell with this community. Im done.

Focus on the gem-store bad for the game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Eladriel.7295

Eladriel.7295

A lot of guild-members got a mini pack that had 3 Holographic mini’s in them. The reason they got it because they both 500 gems somewhere between the release of the game and this was ArenaNet’s way to ’thank’them for the support.

Now I do not buy anything from in-game stores. Thats why I buy a B2P game and not a F2P game because of this sort of things. And F2P games that are doing there best to get people buying stuff from there. Hate that, so I go for a B2P game. (To bad GW2 is now also doing that more and more.. but that was expected as there is still no expansion announced. B2P games should run on the game and expansion).

Anyway, in stead of buying stuff in the gemstores I do want to support ArenaNet and so I buy the collectors edition. You know, the one that cost 105 Euro more then the normal game (how many gems can you buy for that?). But not you are smacking all those players in the face. What paying more for the game but not buying gems… You get nothing.

So my questions.. did you just forget about those people and will they still get it? Would be nice.

What is your problem? The gem store is a way to get support for the game and to sell items that players would want.. It is no different than the freakin store they had for gw1. What you think you’re only support of the game is just to buy the collectors edition? What happens between now and a expansion? Have you heard they were working on one? no you haven’t. I bought the collectors edition as well and yes I have bought gems.. Why? Cause I don’t mind spending money on a game I like and plan on playing for years to come and 5 character slots just wasn’t enough. Why is it when a company wants to show their appreciations to parts of the community the other parts start this “Im entitled” to whatever they got bs? The collectors edition got way more items with it than we got for buying gems.. Stuff that they didn’t even have to give. It is really pathetic that people seem to feel they need to begrudge others for things they have gotten because of simple things they do. Not counting the fact the gift was unexpected. I didn’t expect to log in and find a box of mini pets..

100% agree with the OP. The game has not progressed into a relaxed gaming environment. It’s just become a ‘second job.’

I REALLY hope Anet/NCsoft get their acts together, because Neverwinter is looking pretty good right now.

Neverwinter is very disappointing and doesn’t have the free roaming as gw2 has.. And I hate the fact I have to look at my character like a top down view, not counting other things I have noticed which I am not going to go into… I had 2 characters, but deleted one of them.. Why have two when I won’t be playing it enough to even make it worth while to have two. It’s a mediocre game to spend my boring times in, but it is not one that I would spend hours, days or weeks at a time in.

So that's where all the (Kitten)s in GW2 are.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Eladriel.7295

Out of all my experiences in this game, I have met nothing but friendly awesome players who were willing to be helpful and understanding until just now where I had the sudden realization where all the jerks have been hiding.

All the (Kitten)s are at CoF P1 Speed.

I have a lvl 80 zerk mesmer that I believe I’m fairly competent with and I also believe that I have a fair amount of experience doing the runs. I use the curtains properly, I use the feedback, I do the time warps, so what’s the deal?

Before I did CoF p1 runs, I made sure to ask guild members for instruction and I even watched a lot of YT videos on Mesmer play in CoF P1 speed running to learn absolutely everything I needed to know so I didn’t inconvenience anyone when I started.

I’ve accumulated a fair amount of experience since I first started these runs, but I’m realizing that more than anything, these runs while they do make money, they usually host the most hostile players in this game.

A summary of today’s experience, you ask? After multiple runs today, we tried to despawn and a warrior dragged an imp to my despawn area, killing us both.

I was going to port when they finished the chest figuring they would be able to handle it, but they were taking too long and kept rallying so I figured I would head back and Greatsword the acolytes from the rock at a distance to finish and help.

What do I get? The second they finish after taking so long leaving me waiting for the port, I get this:

“Why are you running back, you (kitten). (Kitten) Stupid (Kitten), now we have no port.” then proceeded to kick me.

Firstly, they were taking a long time to finish. Secondly, I was initially going to port once they finished if they weren’t failing so hard. The most important detail about this is when they finished, I was already hit by a mob and on my way there. Figured that stuff happens, I would be able to make it back in time before they finished the acolyte seeing as they were dropping off a lot.

Another time I got kicked simply by politely asking an engineer in a party before we started if he was going to switch to a zerk warrior for the speed run.

I am in a very sour mood. I have loved GW2 more than any other MMO simply because the community here has been the least hostile community out of any other MMO I’ve played, but seeing the amount of unnecessary aggression and elitism that keeps going on in these runs makes me wish there was no field diminish so I can stay in a field and acquire mats to sell.

TL;DR version: Most CoF p1 people are incredibly impolite, and I have a secret desire now for ANet to nerf this dungeon just to hear all these ignoramus’ whine and complain. Maybe that’s wrong of me to say right now, but I’m really sour at the moment.;

Yep, those are the elitist jerks all right. You’ll also find them populating the fotm dungeons as well. And on these forums.. Especially in certain threads. I have no use for those kinds of people or any tolerance for them. Report them and go on. Try putting your own group together. You might have more fun that way.

Why no /inspect ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Eladriel.7295

An auto inspect feature is only for being able to critique someone else’s build, which is rude and presumptuous, unless invited by the person being critiqued upon themselves.

This is a ridiculous claim. God forbid, i don’t have every piece of armor/weapon in the game memorized and i get curious as to what that shiny thing that person has equipped might be.

Or maybe i see an Ele that looks like they have a similar set-up as me and i want to see what kind of sockets they have.

I mean, who does that? Just goes around, inspecting people’s gear, for the sole purpose of making you feel bad. If someone exhibits that kind of behavior, it’s not because of /inspect, it’s probably because they are a bad person.

Whisper that player and ask? I’ve done this before, and players have been more than helpful.

I’ve done this before and not gotten a response :/ It would be much easier for everyone to not have to bother them at all.

You mean it would be much easier for you just take the info you want and be on your way regardless how the other party felt about it.. By them not responding was their way of letting you know they don’t want to be inspected.

This has been discussed to death and back.

It’s pretty simple: most people of any value or relevance think it’s a good idea, bad players and leeches think it’s the devil cause they’re afraid they can’t be carried anymore. Good players think it’s a good idea/don’t care because, worse case scenario, they just don’t party with people they wouldn’t want to party with anyways. Crappy players know they’ll take longer to find a party and it’ll mostly be others like them, so nobody will drag them along.

Done to death. This particular horse isn’t even a carcass anymore but a fine paste. Game needs inspect for better pugging. Will, hopefully, get it eventually, but hardly a priority. Meanwhile just try to stick with partying with people you know. As of right now I don’t join random parties unless I know more others in it, and that we’re all good enough to carry the rest. And usually when one of us is the leader so we can kick any dead weight “too heavy” to carry.

Judgmental at it’s finest… So all the GOOD PLAYERS are the ones who want it or don’t care if it is added.. and all the BAD PLAYERS are the ones who are against it and want to be carried.. Hum did I just sum that up right? Not one time have I ever expected to be carried through a kitten kittening dungeon. Not one time have I ever wanted a piggy back ride. I do my share in the dungeon. Better be careful with that boot of yours… You know karma has it’s way coming back around.. Everyday you people prove to me just how pathetic this community is becoming.

Really? You think those of use who are against inspect are the most elitist? How pathetic! We have stated many reasons why were are against it and yet you continued to ignore it. Yet you pull fake claims from your kitten as to why we are against it or that we are elitist.. This community is beginning to be just as pathetic as the wow community…

Except, your arguments all boil down to ‘I don’t want to be excluded for running a terrible build’. You also all seem to be under the impression that you will be kicked once someone sees you’re running Knights or Soldier’s for example. Whilst I personally despise Soldier’s gear, I know it has it’s uses, and it can be a crutch for newer players to harder content, because of survivability.

There is a long way to go between ‘pants-on-head-kittened builds’ and ‘zerker or gtfo’ builds.

And to be honest, the anti-elitist crowd in here IS acting more elitist than the actual elitist crowd. It’s like looking at a group of gay people beating the ever living kitten out of someone for just saying he thinks being gay is unnatural (for the record, I don’t believe that, it’s just an analogy), and then feeling morally superior for doing so.

Just who are you to dictate my build is terrible? Who made you an expert other than self proclaimed expertise? A-net placed all those builds in the game to be utilized. Obviously they are viable or they would not be in the game.

It all boils down to, as I have said before… It is a dictatorship for making the community to use their self proclaimed right builds or gtfo.. Not a kitten one of you are experts.. There is no set in stone right build.

One last thing.. Who are you to assume I am running a terrible build just because I am against inspect? Haven’t you been told assumptions is the mother of all kitten ups?

My reasons once again why I am against inspect.. (Get it this time I’m not going to repeat myself again.)

-creates a dictatorship(conform to my build or no run)
-It segregates the community to the extreme
- promotes elitism at it’s finest
-promotes judgmental attitudes to the extreme
-promotes harassment
-Limits the playing field for dungeon runs
-Last but not least Inspect goes against A-nets philosophy of their game.

Ok that is all you get from me. I don’t not have to justify my stance any further and I am still standing by “My armor is none of your friggin buisness”

One of the main points of this game is to just pick up a group and run.. No calling out certain classes and having them to ping their kitten gear. This game is not WOW! STOP TRYING TO MAKE IT INTO WOW!

A question about racist comments

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Eladriel.7295

Eladriel.7295

Something I have noticed that I find a bit odd.

If I or most people I know see someone in game call another by a racist name we report it and Anet responds with a ban.

and this is the way it should be.

But GW2 is FULL of racism and nobody is bothered by it infact most people laugh at it.
examples.

Take the Asurans for example

“Bookah” is a large, loud, bellowing, and dumb imaginary creature that the Asura used to frighten their children. Since their surfacing, they use the term to refer to those they view as inferior beings, which to them is almost everyone who is not an Asura.

This is a derogatory term that they assign to the races they deem beneath them.

also several people in the game seem to have adopted and accepted calling Sylvari “Salad Heads”

Even members of the lionguard in this latest living story use it.

“You think salad boy can make good on his threat?”

The char and norn both have been known to make other racist comments against humans and other races

I Still have difficulty on how to react to this. On one hand I tend to wish to say its a game and its their culture. but on the other it was created by humans and is thereby an extension of ours. If I was “magically” transported to Tyria I would no sooner call a sylvari a Salad head than I would call a ….. and this is my point I even refuse to pick a race and term to use in an example here. but yet I fear the day when I watch my own toon call someone a name in some cut scene.

Well, do you think if it was absent in Tyria the world would be believable? We all know it’s not a happy happy joy joy world and all races do not get along.. So do you think they are going to withhold their racism? No… they aren’t.. Well some will, the ones with more compassion for others will not participate in it.. When you have a world that is full of different races and are force to interact with each other there will be some form of racism. You can not expect racism not be there. Not everyone in a given race will accept all other races. There will be conflicts. Even though it is wrong, it is just something that happens.

The funny bit is, when I played Guild Wars 1, the loot was, for the most part, equally unrewarding. I mean you’d do a dungeon and you’d get these yellow drops (which we called gold drops) and they’d be worthless. You could get some coin by selling them as unidentified golds for people who were working on their wisdom title, but basically, they were worthless.

It would get to the point after a while where nothing that dropped really meant anything unless it was a black or white dye….or an ecto if you were in the underworld. Or a lock pick.

Guild Wars 1 wasn’t really a loot based game, and neither is Guild Wars 2.

Yeah, the greens in GW1 was the main rare in that game.. Golds were mainly for the treasure finding achievement and there were a few that had the same base stats as some greens. I remember getting a green drop from a Nightfall area that was nothing but crap. It wasn’t even worth keeping.

I wish I could inspect my guildies so I could help them with their builds more easily. Without one, whenever they ask for build help, they have to ping a dozen items and write a veritable couple paragraphs to communicate their traits and things.

Having an inspect feature in PvE would no more foster elitism than what we already have. Mean people require you to ping your stuff or you’re kicked, don’t play with them. Limiting players from being able to inspect just on account of the bad people that will be there anyway is terrible.

They should absolutely carry the inspect from PvP over to PvE.

It’s not that we don’t like this on account of bad people. It’s just that the presence of a /inspect would FOSTER people to be critical of other people, whether or not they perceive them to be good builds or bad.

Except you have 0 evidence to prove that. This game is already more elitist than any other game I have played in. I played WoW too, and never felt the same sort of pressure to have one build or play-style forced upon me. Having inspect and damage meters allowed me to improve myself by watching other people and using these tools. Here, I have to resort to the forums to learn how to play the game.

It feels like we are punishing everyone, because some people previously had bad experiences with it. It’d be like saying no one is allowed to drive in this city, because a few people were in car accidents in that city a few states over.

Have you played LOL? That game’s community is infinitely more toxic that GW2. And I suspect other highly competitive games or other MOBA also foster toxic attitudes. It’s like meeting a nice and friendly person is such a gem there, whereas it’s the norm here.

Honestly, the only place I see /inspect would be ok is in pvp.

Nope, I never have played LoL. Guess it’s a good thing. I think you and I just see totally different uses for /inspect, as I don’t think it matters if it is in PvP or PvE as I’d use it the same way either way.

From my POV right now, the people who are anti inspect and anti LFG auto groupers etc are the ones who sound the most elitist. It seems like everyone who is against it thinks that because they don’t like it, no one should be able to have it. Why not have the option for it and if you don’t want it, find like-minded friends and guild with them and don’t use it. Let those of us who like them to use them? Pro choice.

Perma death -OR- the dropping of all loot on death, i dont know why, but i feel like this makes MMO’s so much fun for so much longer! Can you imagine how many more guilds would work together so much more seriously, how many people would travel in massive groups, how much RP…. Just the thought makes me kitten. I am a Demon’s Souls / Dark Souls fan my self, but even those games didn’t have perma-death…

What you should ask is bigger penalties for death (loosing XP and/or Karma, or droping your all your Karma on the spot!)

No, I don’t want that either.. The death penalty is bad enough.

To the people who are against inspect : you are already getting kicked from my runs, why are you so vehement against a feature that would let me state it clearly before we enter the instance, rather than kick you mid run ? It’s not that difficult to spot terribad players during runs. It’s usually not for the stability active when you see a warrior with a Dolyak signet unless we’re doing lupicus. A warrior with axe offhand, a war with sword main hand, any of these will get kicked during the run, no need for a full gear check.
If I’m seeing these pathetic 1K heal appear on me I’ll know something is going wrong and someone is running shout heal. Booted.
If I see you do 100 blades and watch the mob bar go down by very little compared to my own autoattacking or even a whirlwind, I’ll know something is going wrong.

Inspect would just allow me to kick you sooner. Both of us will waste less time. Because trust me, if there is another likeminded person in the group, consider yourself booted mid run.

To you…. You gotta be running dungeons to be kicked.. pfft.. That is no brainer.. And when I do run a dungeon I have never been kicked from a dungeon run obviously cause I didn’t have a spastic elitist in the rank. I am still against inspect.. You are not gonna change my mind so stop trying.

Perhaps he did 6 runs in the meantime and simply took a break?

There you have it, gentlemen. For people who run with a static and/or friends, this is not an issue.

It is an issue when you don’t have any friends playing and it still an issue period. Inspect feature just doesn’t cause elitism it promotes it and further divides the community. It leads to players that are forced to pug to be dictated in changing their build to suit the elitists whim because it thinks its idea of the build is the right one.. Really? According to whom is the build the right one.. Too many elitist have their blinders on and fooling themselves into believing their own bs.. The only good build is the one that is working for you period. There is a reason A-net left inspect gear out and I hope they leave it out. Like I said before my gear is none of your friggin business. If you want to inspect builds and dictate the group go back to wow. Stop ruining this game.

It is when you join my dungeon party with a full rare magic find set. If you think that’s okay to have a selfish attitude and make others work for your rewards. Then these kinds of people (or leeches I like to call them) I can do with out in my groups.

You may think it is your business, but it’s not.. You’ll figure that out when you are sitting in the city spamming for a group and can’t find one.

We should be able to use whatever build we want.

You can use whatever you want when you are alone, but in a party there are four other people you should think of. People ought to respect their fellow team members and don’t force them to carry anyone in masterwork or sentinel/cleric/shaman/rabid/carrion mix of gear. Same goes with selfish magic find leeching, it helps you, but kicks the other four people in their faces.

Because my gear is none of your frigging business.

If you join my party, it is my business, because I will have to make up for your bad gear.

Then eventually it will be you sitting in the city looking for a group for hours at a time and not finding one. I stand with the rest.. My gear is none of your friggin business. And if I run a dungeon I create my own party.

is open world agony coming?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Eladriel.7295

Eladriel.7295

so as the title says is open world agony coming?
should i expect it in all areas of the game eventually?

because at the moment its contained in fractals which makes having items such as the backpacks which have infusion slots rather than upgrade slots for gems make no sense

lets compare

rare backpacks have
+20
+14
+14
+upgrade

instead of the upgrade the Fervid Censer has + defensive infusion
this means it cannot take exquisite gems which would give an additional

+15
+15
+25

notice how this doubles the available stats to any player wishing to use this item in PvE and also allows them to customize where they want their stats ie they could gem for more damage or defense or to improve a specific build as desired

given that currently agony is present in exactly one location in the game (fractals) which many players have no intention of participating in (ever) why are the items being itemized for playing in that area of the game being released elsewhere when they give no benefit over normal items in every other aspect of the game?

while im sure many will argue you can just transmute them to whatever other backpack you prefer, the same is true in reverse if they had proper upgrade slots.

this returns me to the original question of why were they itemized this way, should we be expecting every karaka to have agony in the future? should we be expecting it while leveling?will we have items that give “+5% keg brawl knockdown resist” dropping in fractals and dungeons etc? because currently this doesn’t make sense to me at all over say making them a skin like the molten backpack or an item with a normal upgrade.

Why would it? Agony was added to be part of FotM for those of you who wanted hardcore and more challenging dungeons.. I don’t want it for open world.. It needs to stay in the FotM.

Rage Quit Fun

I’ve seen people express that they love grieving players until they rage quit. Often enough that it’s becoming quite a disturbing trend. Is this the type of people that play MMO’s? Being my first one, I’m really wondering if MMO’s are filled with kittenbags or not?

Especially, as an American, helping others should come as second nature. It’s how we’re raised in my part of the states.

So the question is, is causing misery part of the MMO motif?

Sorry to say you will find a kittenbag in every mmo or any other online game you play. Those types it is best that you just report them and block them and go on with your game and try not letting them ruin your fun.

What are people doing in this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

So I took a break from GW2 because of school but now I want to play again… Boy, things have changed. First of all, where is everyone? The lack of population is slightly disappointing…. I checked out WvW, and it doesn’t have the hoards of people I remembered. I went to heart of the mists and again…. no one. I see some large groups of people just standing around in the cities but I can’t really see anyone doing much… So really… what is everyone doing now?

Lack of people, really? I haven’t noticed.. Since I had guested over on Tarnished Coast with a big red word “Full” . Then 2 hours later went back to my “High” populated server.. I see people everywhere including the higher lvl areas.. Everytime I do the Shadow Behemoth it is packed… Everytime I do Maw it is packed so full you barely even get a freakin hit on the shaman before he is dead.. Even the dragon events are full. Even the small events have people doing them.. How is it you people don’t see that? What the heck are you people on or smoking? Maybe you need to stop smoking what ever it is and take off your blinders cause it’s affecting your senses… The game isn’t dying nor is it lacking in population.

Oh I think this is an excellent idea. As long as it was items and not gems. I could see that being exploited for gold selling. Plenty of times I’ve wanted to buy a social item or a mini for a friend who couldn’t afford it though.

Items would be a better choice for the “Gift this Item” feature. As far as gems goes you can always go out and buy a gemshop card to give to a friend to buy gems with.

The problem is that there’s an achievement leaderboard, which some people seem to care about, and if you made it this way, everyone with a ton of alts and some time would easily be able to top the leaderboard.

I wouldn’t actually mind if the change was made, but the problem here is that dailies were always able to be done on any character, so if I played one, I’d get my daily and if I played a different one I’d STILL be working on the same daily.

What you’re essentially asking is for a complete rewrite of the rules. People are already complaining (in other threads) about the pressure from feeling they have to do the daily. How do you think they’ll respond when they feel they have to do four or five of them.

While this change would work for some people (those who have multiple characters and those who have the time to regularly do multiple dailies) I think it would work against the bulk of the population…so it’s a change that will never happen.

In fact, the whole purpose of making dailies the way they were was so casuals COULD catch up. I mean if you don’t have a ton of time to do dailies now, you only have to do 30 dailies to get an ascended amulet. Less if you do a monthly.

Changing this would give a huge advantage to people with lots of free time. It negates the whole reason for the cap in the first place.

You really ruin the experience of the forums by posting in every thread you disagree to with a condescending “My way is right everything else is flawed logic and therefore a hyperbole.”

I think your English talents are better served writing a book instead of posting on the forums 24/7.

I’ve written quite a few books, thanks for suggestion though. I didn’t call this suggestion hyperbole either, so why you’d bring that specifically up, I have no idea.

I’m allowed to disagree with people on a forum. Why people should say I ruin the forum by disagreeing, I don’t understand. I didn’t suggest the OP ruined the forum by posting what he posted. I think the OPs post is quite reasonable, compared to many of the threads I post in. I never suggested the OP was unreasonable or used hyperbole.

I do suggest, however that the OPs suggestion will have a negative affect on part of the playerbase. I’m really sorry that that ruins your experience of the forums.

If disagreements are hard for you to deal with and they ruin your experience, perhaps you should take up something less stressful.

This brings chronic pain to me and I have trouble sleeping at night.

Sounds like a personal problem.

Although I really hate a lot of the decisions as to the direction of this game I think in large part the player base is doing as well as expected. Still for folks to post these threads I am sure to them, through there experiences in the game world, the game is dying. If your on a smaller server and all your friends leave because they are sick of waiting for balance or features that should have been in by now I bet it sure seems like the game is fizzling out. Still you gotta remember that a game like this, love it or hate it, is a totally different beast than we as mmo players have dealt with before. Its buy to play, extremely casual in many cases, and a very slight horizontal gear progression. All this allows new or returning players to immediately not be left in the dust like WoW, and lets you play a limited amount or leave and return at will without feeling like its pointless to come back because you missed too much. In this aspect Anet did do a good job, even if thats not leading to the game most of us expected this to be. This is coming from a staunch critic of this game on many fronts, but I would be remiss to not give them credit where it is due.

As far as the sick of waiting… People these days have no kitten patience. They need to grow some. After all it is a virtue. The game is not even a year old.. Not like they have been waiting years for their balancing. When they have been waiting for 2+ years then they can be sick of the wait and complain about it..
