What i would like to see is reputation voting for commanders because some of the commanders I’ve seen is just terrible. like trying to capture SM with 20 players only to get slaughtered by 150+ players and with terrible attitude. I think a vote up/down system would make things better if there is several commanders you can choose who to follow. a commander with a lot of good reputation is likely to know what he/she is talking about.

This would be optimal, actually. Then all the apologists are happy, and the people who want to rework the system are happy.

While I don’t directly disapprove of being able to rate Commanders,
But eventually the people who want to rework the system are going to have to realize that SOMETIMES, the problem is caused by the players, not the system. And changing the system won’t fix everything.

If the people on your server are not smart enough to figure out quickly which Commanders they should or should not follow, that is a problem with your server population.

If they ARE smart enough to know which Commanders to follow, this system is entirely superfluous.

The selfishness and entitlement of some players is baffling…

MMOs don’t give out rewards retroactively.
This is not a new philosophy from Anet.

You did not earn WvW rewards because you participated up to this point.
You earned badges, points for your server, and points in an achievement track. Those are the rewards that were offered to get you into WvW, and those are the rewards you’re getting for it. If those rewards are not enough for you, I don’t understand why you’ve been playing up to this point at all.

No free rides.

You can still not die quickly as a balanced build… and still kill things. 1v1 Fights aren’t over in a few seconds nor do they drag out for 30+

I can’t remember the last time a thief has downed me while being in a balanced setup. It gives you enough time to react while still being able to down them quickly. If you’re having issues vs thieves leaving fights when you don’t want them to, I suggest adding in more CC. CC is a thief’s bane.

DD Eles can still do some damage as full bunker, but even then why not go for a more balanced approach? (Just wondering as I don’t have an 80 Ele)

The full bunker DD Ele I have most conversation with doesn’t do kitten for damage. :P

And I very seldomly have problems with thieves even as a glass cannon mesmer.
As I’ve said many times, the very bulk of the times that thieves kill me is when they gank me while I’m already fighting someone else.

Yeah, I put together a Mesmer build a couple weeks ago that was nearly impossible to kill. Routinely took at very least 3v1 to take me down.

Did virtually no damage,
I could win 1v1s, but it’d take 15 minutes to do so (Timed it a few times)

And I actually did find it quite fun to play.
Not being able to kill things wasn’t as nice, but you really appreciate the nuances in GW2’s combat mechanics when battles last longer than the 30 seconds it takes me to burst someone down as a GC shatter mesmer.

it is an entirely new system with new pieces of data associated to it so unfortunately there’s no way to award retroactive progress.

We will be keeping all the existing WvW achievement tracks [..] along with the progress you have already obtained on those achievements.

Couldn’t the new XP take into account the existing achievement tracks? (Answer: it could, but you don’t want it to.

If the XP is quantified in any way other than directly linearly from the number of points you have in any achievement track; then no, they can’t.

I’ve know there’s a few groups that do this, and I say for a fact that they do it for the lawls. They read the forums and known people hate it, and they do it to troll them, and by posting this you are just feeding them.

Doesn’t bother me, just shows poor sportsmanship.

Aint no reason to laugh on the corpse of someone you had a good duel with. :C

It is when people get upset on the forum, maybe not you but others have.

They are not completely invincible against an organized group.

If they are immune to conditions and immune to damage i wonder how your “organized group” can kill it, since you can no longer stack vulnerability to damage him.

A zerg can still kill them in about two minutes.

Spam light fields and blast finishers. Retribution hurts him.
It’s kind of funny how hard they are having making him truly invisible. Failed twice in a row lol.
I say he should be truly invincible for the timer.

That is one way to kill him, but there is another more effective way which will kill him in about 30 secs, don’t wanna spoil the fun of you guys finding out :P

Don’t want to spoil the fun, or want to continue to privately exploit a bug for your own gain?

At this point we all know that the supervisor is INTENDED to be invincible. Anyone abusing a mechanic (retribution or otherwise) is exploiting a bug in the intended design. Now granted it is difficult to keep everyone from doing so, but then unless you can guarantee that you and whoever else knows your “secret” isn’t using it, you are exploiting even worse by keeping the advantage to yourself. At least if we spread the exploit around everyone has an equal opportunity and things are fair

I haven’t tested it since the patch, but lifesteal used to bypass the buff completely too. And isn’t considered condition damage.

EDIT: But honestly, I don’t know why they don’t just drop a Legendary Defender (Like guarding spawns) on supply camps that’ll despawn after 5 minutes. Or just make the Supervisor’s Buff make him equivalent to a legendary defender.

I like the fix, but I still rather not be able to solo camps. I think we all know this shouldn’t be allowed. 5 players should be able to take a camp together, but not just 1 or 2.

Sentries still need a boost in my opinion as well…At least kill Dolyaks

The problem is, flipping camps is one of the most useful things (Along with smacking dolyaks) that the solo roamer can do.

And let’s be honest,
Whether they can take camps or not, there will always be solo roamers.
Might as well give them something to do that helps your server.

Try becoming a commander, you almost always get emotes when you die Let people have their fun, it’s just an emotion. You’re made of tougher stuff right?

Oh, I’m not offended by it.
I do so myself on rare occasions when the fight warrants it for whatever reason. Just every single time I got killed yesterday I got laughed on multiple times. Even after the really good duels that I would have otherwise bowed after if I’d won.

And I am a Commander,
But I also know better than to make myself that much more of a target by having my icon on while roaming :P

The exact same thing just happened to me. No one wanted to believe me so I took a screenshot. It was Kaineng VS Devona’s Rest VS Eredon Terrace LOL! I don’t even know if this matchup ever happened.

I understand the desire to get some sort of acknowledgement for previous WvW experience, but I don’t agree with the perspective of “I sacrificed my PvE progression for WvW.” If you’re a WvW veteran then you know darn well how unrewarding WvW was in comparison to PvE in terms of loot. Week after week, month after month you WvW all the while realizing the scores at the end ultimately meant nothing. But in the end it’s the choice YOU made in how you wanted to spend your time.

To say you’re going to be very disappointed that you’re not retroactively rewarded for a “unrewarding” part of the game you chose to play is just really the wrong attitude IMO. I put unrewarding in quotes because it’s a matter of perspective. I personally find WvW very rewarding in fun and loot even in it’s current state. The future of WvW is even more exciting to me — I’m really looking forward to it.

Please read my OP. I specifically said I love WvW and would not like to see these judgmental “you chose to play it” or “don’t play it if you don’t enjoy it” attitudes.

I’m excited for the future of WvW too. I think a lot of good changes are being made.

The underlying fear for a LOT of players is that ANet will decide that all of our achievements don’t count. Not that we deserve to be rewarded, but rather have EARNED the reward. These titles aren’t earned with a new currency. They are earned with the same achievements compiled together. They are calling that “World XP”, but that doesn’t mean it is anything new, just a different categorization. There are people out there with 100k kills. I only have about 25k. If those people have a higher title than me, they earned it as well.

He is right though,
You can’t just say that a valid opposing point can’t be posted here.

You made a decision to play the game mode based on the assumption that you were getting no material reward for doing so.

You are also assuming that World Exp is going to be given out as a static number per kill/accomplishment.
What if it varies by level? Anet didn’t track the level of each of your kills.
What if it scales with the number of people involved in the kill/capture/defense/etc? Anet didn’t keep track of that either.

Completely putting “fairness” and what you think you deserve aside,
It is very likely that technical limitations will prevent Anet from making any calculations about how much you should have actually earned retroactively.

Anyone else from DB notice how FA stacked seige weps against our spawn in EB lol. I think they held us on the stairs for about an hour. We need more people on EST or I can see this becoming a new trend. Good job btw, you not only stacked from the front but you had people reliably covering all escape routes, if FA is anything like DB then that kind of coordination must have been difficult.

Unfortunately FA is in a desperate push to make T2. just this morning we were only up on TC by .1 rating point. We have had to push and not give anyone an inch so we can get the rating to make T2. Although I wasn’t involved in any spawn camping, I apologize that it happened, but don’t worry we will be out of your tier on reset hopefully

After I read this it made me think about how tame our forum posts and team chat is. For a whole mess of people with different ambitions, egos, ideas, etc. our team chat is pretty tame. Not a lot of yelling or arguing about what to do.

Even our weekly voice chat meetings are pretty humble.

Depending upon how far SoS falls, you could eventually get a K/FA/TC tier 2 and a DB/Mag/YB tier 3, which ultimately I would hope, be the most balanced matches we’ve had in a long time.

This is my optimal scenario.
I would hope SoS doesn’t fall too much lower than tier 3.

If tsym is still there,
DB has unfinished business with them ;D

I just think it’s ridiculous that people call the game completely unplayable because of culling, don’t trust Anet to ever fix it, but they’re still here playing the game.

i bought this game for w3, w3 is the only reason i bought it, i don’t care for spvp (understatement) and i dislike pve (understatement). at te moment this game is the only game that gives that kinda gameplay so i put up with culling to get my large scale open world pvp fix.

but claiming that culling is not game breaking, especially in w3, untill they fix it is “insert explicit word”

I never said it’s ridiculous to be frustrated about culling.
Or that it’s taken 7 months to get fixed.

Simply that if you consider it unplayable,
And also never believe anet will fix it,
I don’t see the reason why someone would still be playing.

They’re essentially saying “This is going to be a problem forever that makes the game unplayable. So I’m playing it.”

And I do claim that culling isn’t gamebreaking,
Seeing as that I’ve been playing since launch and it’s never been anything more than an annoyance. And I wvw every day.

Just because you aren’t experiencing the problem, or don’t feel it’s unacceptable doesn’t invalidate others experience. There are many, many, many threads where the overwhelming majority of people posting explain how bad it is.

For myself: unplayable in large group battles due to culling and skill lag. Even solo roaming if I run into a large group I generally don’t see them until they are on top of me.

So what would you like Anet to do?
They’re putting a solution to that problem out and all you have to do is kitten about it like a whiny little spoiled kid.

Riiiiight. Because doing an event at Pent/Shelt with 10 other people and not being able to see a single mob until they are within one yard of you is playable. Because solo wandering in WvW and not seeing a small group of players until they have ran right past you is playable. You’re right, it’s just an ‘annoyance’.

Garbage. You are making excuses for a technical problem in a game that should have seen some form of fix or improvement over the past 7 months. There have been none.

Read the quote again, they aren’t fixing culling. They are turning it off. I can only imagine what that’s going to cause.

You’re playing the same game as the rest of us, yet somehow we seem to not be having too much of a hard time dealing with culling.
Calling the game “unplayable” just shows how poorly you played it to begin with.

Get used to tab targeting and make use of auto-targetting on single target skills, you can still target things affected by culling. Being invisible does not mean it can’t be killed, if you’re sitting there waiting for monsters to show up on your screen and then kittening about culling because you don’t know where to click-target a mob, it sounds to me like that is you choosing not to adapt.

I also solo wander in wvw pretty much exclusively lately and I can count the number of times on one hand that culling has caused me to die in the past several months.

Spawn Camping: A valid tactic?

The way I look at it is,
If a military force occupied a territory and claimed it for their own,
They would patrol the outer border of their territory (IE: Your spawn exit) to prevent hostile invaders from entering.

They wouldn’t just let enemy soldiers wander into their land unchecked.

Like squad chat?

No, because that would require people to know about and acutally use the “join squad” function and it doesn’t allow for two-way communications.

I want another chat tab that allows for the commander to openly communicate with only those that are interested in communicating with them. Sort of a “Team Nnekk” channel, if you will.

Unless it changed, I’ve definitely seen squad chat used for two-way communication.

And any other chat tab you want would require some sort of opt-in button, just like “Join Squad”.

It requires people to do things that have 0 rewards and are intrinsically boring. Sentrying is only fun if your objective actually gets attacked. Sit in a keep for 2 hours while no one attacks it and see how much you like the change.

There are already things that are in this game that have no rewards.
Repairing walls,
Building defensive siege,
Escorting dolyaks

Even the things that do provide rewards, those rewards are often rather lackluster and shouldn’t be why you’re in wvw.

It doesn’t mean they are not required things.

And if you’re sitting inside the keep staring at the horizon instead of going out and roaming the terrain, that is your choice. The maps are small, an entire zerg is not just going to slip by you if you try to watch a keep and an adjacent tower/camp. ((Well, a zerg could slip past you, but I’d hope if you’re scouting you’re paying more attention than that)).

Until enough don’t like it and complain and it gets changed again.

Every change Anet has made since the day they’ve announced GW2 has had haters.
Could probably count the amount of times they’ve actually reverted a change on one hand.

They are well aware of the concept of a Vocal Minority.
Other players in this game don’t seem to realize though, that the people complaining on the forums represent less than 1% of their playerbase (I’m estimating, if the only argument against me you have is demanding proof for this number I will assume you’ve forfeit the actual conversation) and primarily most people only come to the forums if they have a problem.

Half the players roaming aren’t out there to scout, but to fight 1v1s, gank people, or find small scale engagements, they could care less where the zerg is going, what the score is either, and probably aren’t going to call out every time they see more than 5 people, let alone follow them.

That really isn’t Anet’s problem to deal with, or mine.
It is your server’s problem to deal with. Get them to play ball or find someone else who will. If they’re too full of themselves to toss a message in /t when they see a sizeable enemy force while they do their 1v1, ganking and roaming, then that sounds like a personal problem to me. Not a problem with the game.

As I’ve been saying, if you don’t adapt you are not going to fair well.

Not the zerg waiting to see orange on the map and rerouting.
I like scouts, I like actually having to stay and defend a piece of territory instead of leaving it and letting the lazy game mechanics tell you when to come back.

Everyone likes scouts.

Few, if any, like BEING scouts. I’ve spent more than my fair share of time playing scout/defender and the result is I have less money, less loot and fewer badges than most anyone else who plays as much as I do. Scout/defenders will be the ones getting screwed when new WvW rewards come out in March and we find our pockets emptier than most other people’s. If you want to propose solutions to that problem, let’s hear it. My solution is to automate scouting so that human players don’t have to get suckered into doing it.

Thieves, DD Eles, and Mesmers are really common for roaming classes.
If your server doesn’t have any of those who are solo in wvw already, then you’re going to have a really hard time.

All they have to do is, instead of roaming in any random direction, roam around the territory they’re SCOUTING.

Problem solved,
Scout organized.

If the entire server is full of zergers who don’t want to do anything but run around in a big conglomeration of noobs, then this patch is going to hurt you, and it should.
Anet is finally promoting organized play by punishing the mindless bads for being bad.

It’s nice that that’s what you resort to first though.

Nevertheless, you agree with me that this change makes karma-trains even easier and therefore more profitable.

If you are a karma farmer, this patch is for you. If you like big fights and robust defenses rather than karma trains then you want more visibility into where the enemy is at, not less.

Personally I’d like to see “heat maps”, similar to Planetside 2. Divide the map into squares and color them based on the number of enemies in the square.

Don’t put words in my mouth, you need to learn how this “conversation” thing works.
I told you I don’t agree with you, and I never said otherwise, what kind of assumption is that that I’ve changed my mind?

If karma-training around WvW is all you want to do, then that’s too bad for you.

On the contrary, this new patch makes karma-training much easier.

In fact, the entire point of it is to allow smaller karma trains to flip more things with less opposition.

I appreciate that you were trying to troll but you are dead wrong in your assessment. If you want to discourage karma-trains, you need to enable defense. This patch made defense require more effort, even though it was already the least rewarding, most boring job in the game.

I appreciate that you think everyone who disagrees with you is a troll, but you are dead wrong in your assessment.

It’s nice that that’s what you resort to first though.

Literally almost the exact same mechanic as “if you get close to a keep an alarm will sound”.

The problem is that there’s no distinction between a 10-golem attack, a 20 person attack or quaggans.

One thing we’ve seen is that you can simply keep everything on the map marked as “under attack” by having a couple thieves scoot around and knock on doors. They’re virtually impossible to stop, it will stop waypoints from being used and you never know where the real attack is.

Again, in DAOC you would always know where the real attack was. It’s counter-productive to hide it. Sieges with no enemies are just bad, boring PvE but some people want points more than good gameplay.

This isn’t DaoC,
DaoC already exists, if you’d like to go play a game that IS DaoC.

Using thieves to keep everything contested is not a new tactic.

Anet is putting a purpose out there for scouts and small groups so the entire map can’t just zerg around and rely on orange swords to tell them when they need to redirect.
If karma-training around WvW is all you want to do, then that’s too bad for you.

I have no sympathy for this.
If you cannot bother to spare a couple people per map to run around and keep tabs on enemy forces or check on white swords, you don’t deserve to keep your territory.

Stop expecting the game mechanics to tell you where the real threat is and adapt.

Players should not be relegated to tasks that are boring.

Game mechanics should remove boring behavior, not make it more necessary. The devs have said in the past that they used DAOC as a model — well in DAOC just getting near a keep would cause an automatic alarm to sound. The enemy would know what keep you are at and with roughly what size group. The point was to trigger big fights.

Arenanet encouraging silent keep takes is the opposite of what DAOC did and makes no sense.

You get white swords for that purpose.

One scout can keep an eye on an entire portion of the map, not just one keep or tower. Maps are small. It is an ideal job for a ROAMER who would be doing pretty much the exact same thing anyway.

against an organized group, you may not have an alarm until 3 rams are bashing at your gate or 5 catas tearing down your wall because you have to actually hit the gate/wall before anything triggers

literally almost the same is not the same

… Against an organized group, that is exactly how it worked pre-patch. What’s your point?

Wrong question: What do I want this change to do?
Another wrong question: What is this change intended to do?

Right question: How will people abuse this?

Whether or not you are asking the right question now, you will all be on the same page within the week, when abusing this becomes the meta.

Just to toss an idea in, maybe set the Sword cap to reflect the tier/population? While 5 does seem low, maybe keep 25 for the top tiers and give a reduction by 5 as the tiers get lower, basing out at 10 minimum?
If 10 for the bottom tiers turns out to be too low, readjust in a later update.
It’s definitely a solid idea with the new caps but with low pops, you really can’t afford the manpower for scouts and spotters all over the map, then still be able to take an objective.

It’s very unlikely they will implement a dynamic scaling for swords in the near future.
It would involve bringing in devs to write whole new algorithms and figuring out how to balance the cap fairly by server population, and require it to adapt and update in real time as people entered and left the map. Then the QA tests and the inevitable bugs in the system after they patched it in.

Changing the limit from 5 to 25 likely only involved them adding the number “2” into the relevant subroutine in front of the “5” that was already there.

What does this mean?? If it is what i think it is, then Ascended gear is going to have a clear advantage over anyone who is just wearing exotics….. GG!!!

And still so stupid you can’t buy ascended gear with Badges of Honor

I believe by “all-stat” items, it is refering to the ascended version of triforge amulet (And equivalent for other trinket slots)

Yeah I mean, SoR and SoS they so tired of getting steamrolled by JQ they just stopped playing WvW. You wonder why they always complain about not fielding enough numbers. Its because they know they aint got no chance in hell so why even log into WvW when playing against JQ.

I think I know what happened. I’m thinking ‘some’ people couldn’t handle losing and lacked the intestinal fortitude to even bother fighting back, and instead went the easier, softer way and hopped to BG. But hey, i could be way off. Either way, looking forward to crushing you and your server next week. Maybe this time we can get your guild to quit the game, instead of just the server, lol.

Make Commander cost badges, not gold

That’s the entire reason I hate how Commander’s get their rank…. It is bought with gold which to most people comes from gems which they get from pouring into this game. It should change but it won’t because it is most likely a HUGE supplement to ANet’s income simply because of the amount of commanders you have per server and the amount of servers there are. Now I am not saying that ALL commanders buy their books with Money>Gems>Gold some might actually farm… but that is ALOT of farming and most people won’t have that kind of gold in game. It should change to achievements related to WvW (especially capturing/defending structures not killing people).

It is actually really easy to get 100g in game without gems.
In the first few months after launch, I’d dare to say it was easier (Which was when I’d bought mine. Took me about 3 days to make 100g),
But it is still not a challenge.

If anyone actually paid dollars for Commander (I know they’re out there), I would say they’re very lazy and wasted their money.

Okay, can’t let this one go. Although I don’t necessarily condone this kind of chest thumping…do you really need the difference broken down to you? Do I need to explain to you the difference between defeating a T6-T7 opponent this badly and defeating two other T1 servers this badly?

Kaineng also did do its fair share of bragging about how awesome they were while they were steamrolling the lower tiers.

Haven’t heard a peep from them about The Mighty Unstoppable Kaineng since tier 2 though :P

Were we actually PvDooring or is that just more internet QQ. I haven’t played for about 9 hours and when I logged off we were around +400PPT with a zerg of about 60 SoR and 40 SoS getting around EB.

Not that I was there to say for sure,
But in my experience, if the opposing servers have any force what-so-ever on a map, they will be able to either hold or backcap at least a LITTLE territory

It was likely mostly PvDoor with a few stragglers not able to do anything.
