You know, I love the Pacific Northwest, but what you said really struck me. I’ve lived in another state and another country on a completely different continent, but never have I lived where there are so many bloomin’ power outages! I don’t know what it is, except that the Puget Sound region gets a lot of wind and we have (thank goodness, it’s what drew me here!) a lot of trees. So a branch goes down in Puyallup (try saying that if you aren’t a PNW resident ) and a house in Renton or Issaquah (try that one, too, just for fun ) can find itself in darkness.

Anyway, I know this is off topic, but don’t worry, I’m not directly working on the patch, so my posting to mention our region’s electrical anomalies isn’t taking away from the update!

I can understand. I have family that lives across the bridge on Mercer Island. Every year it seems there a 2~3 day long power outages.

So where are the most popular haunts for RP?

Usually at the two taverns, or Salma District of Divinity’s Reach. I’ve also witnessed role play at all of the other racial cities and Lion’s Arch. There’s also Ebonhawke. My group has also been known to haunt that small town by Wizard’s Fief. One of my group even saw role play in the human town (I can’t think of the name right now) just north of Lion’s Arch in Gendarren Fields.

You can really just role play anywhere, and you don’t really need to be with anyone. Sometimes I’ll have my Priory character just be a greeter at Durmand Priory, just welcoming others. Will there be positive interaction? Will she be ignored (which is what usually happens), or will the other player become a jerk and start spamming weapon skills and/or be lewd. Who knows? It does make things interesting

If a clickable character bio ever became a thing, I think instead of using it as a bio, I would use it as a first impression thing:

“The asura female you see before you looks young, but she exudes experience. Her clothes are a bit worn, her weapons well taken care of, she definitely doesn’t stay in cities for long. She’s an adventurer.

You notice that she’s looking at you…"

Agreed, which is why I tend to make my characters as Tyria normal as possible. I mean, sure they have magic, but things don’t always go their way.

I can’t think of any items found in the world. Usually what hakes me smile is various NPC dialog, like these two standing near Swift Arrow in Caledon Forest.

This might sound a really stupid question, but can you actually just walk in this game? As there are times I would actually like to just slowly walk from one place to another rather than normal running / movement speed.

Yes you can. I believe it’s a key setting in your options (it’s been a long time since I actually did it). My walk/run toggle key is Z.

Also, it’s ok to have 6 asura characters.

What do people think about having a character biography window that can be viewed with a right-click (with a max of 5000 characters)?

In CoH, the character bio window was used for various purposes:
-Players could advertise their “guild” or their custom missions in the “Mission Architect” or even posting links to websites to show more info, art, stories or guild websites.
-Players could annotate their build, their window of play for raids and overall stuff about playing (if you were aiming for a certain achievement that required a group, you could advertise that).
-More likely, you can post a brief origin story or explanation about your character and their powers (since you could color and customize your powers, even if you used the “Fire” powerset, your powers might be something else like aethereal, psychokinetic energy, darkness, spirit fire, etc).

Ultimately, such a feature may put your intentions out there that people can observe without needing to directly interact with the player behind the keyboard. If you can more easily see a player’s intentions, this could be a stepping stone to starting an interaction. Like, if you see a character’s backstory and you think it’s interesting, you can start chatting about that and perhaps begin a storyline (you can also get a grasp of their ‘level’ or RP-ness so you know what to expect when you interact). Or if you see the person is aiming for the same achievements that you’re trying for, you can send a /whisper about trying to set up times to pull others together for that.

What do you guys think?

My character, Bekka, is mute (thanks Inquest), so she greatly depends on /e to carry on conversations. For example:

/e signs at Gaile: ~Good morning, how are you?~

Or, sometimes, if the person she is trying to talk to doesn’t know sign language, she’ll use a text-to-speech program on her holopad.

/e writes an audio message.
/s Holospeaker: “Good morning Gaile, how are you?”

Having a mute character who is in character 100% of the time really makes me think about how she interacts with others, and she’s been a smash hit so far.

When TWO Dreamer owners follow you around for 5 minutes constantly spamming their horrible noise after you DARED to complain about the Dreamer noise in map chat, yeah it’s definitely a troll weapon that needs a mute button.

For me it’s a physical reaction. My body can’t take it with my condition. The last time I had to PvP for my guild (there were only a handful of us on, and we needed this one PvP mission to level up the guild and they begged me to join them) I came away with fast breathing and shaking hands. I thought I was having another crisis.

Years ago I played other games where you shoot each other down in airplanes with no problems. Now, my body rejects it all.

As someone who crafts their own dyes and subsequently salvages them for the pigment pouches, the karma vendors that sell food items are very useful to me.

There is a workaround by manually clicking on the NPC, chest, whatnot, but there shouldn’t HAVE to be a workaround.

It does help to keep the forum nice to read. It even changes the posts that would otherwise be full of kitten and kittens into readable versions that sound way less idiotic.

The reason it’s here is because this is the forum of a business, not an unofficial fan generated forum. This is the face that ANet presents to any one who comes by to check and to all who post. A company that bills itself as being friendly and actively keeping the player base friendly can hardly have an official forum full of profanity. It looks bad.

In addition, profanity heats up conversations and derails threads as people get angry. Using the kitten filter takes the bite out of kitten kitten you and allows tempers to cool.

It serves a purpose even if you don’t like it.

Rotsap seems to be the poison of choice for Nightmare Court as was mentioned in the sylvari personal story “Awakening” and also in Caithe’s level 10 letter, but I was wondering what exactly does it do? Additionally, what would it do to non-sylvari? Does anyone know? I can’t seem to find any additional information regarding rotsap.

The reason why I ask is because it came up in a role play discussion.

it’s funny i wonder how they figured “People demanded” what basis did they count the number of people? If from these forums I’ve heard the same amount of people complain about many things: mystic coins, how bad HoT was on release, yet i see nothing done bout that. I suppose positive feed back about how wonderful you are is looked at more seriously then negative feed back about how f’ed up it is.

Someone mentioned on another forum (I bet this isn’t accurate) that prolly if u like the game you aren’t on the forums complaining about it. If that’s so then a smaller group of people would of been on the forums in the first place, to dump love on SAB. So i mean saying “People demanded”… what people?which people? how many people?

I believe the feedback on HoT at release was addressed. It was what the April patch was mostly addressing.

Perhaps, the Devs listen to feedback, consider if it represents a majority if there is an opposing desire, and address it when possible. Some things the playerbase may want might have unwanted ramifications to the game, as the playerbase is not privy to all information.

Not to mention the SAB mega-thread that was on the front page of the forums forever full of people demanding its return.

We have airships, why can’t we look over that wall and see what’s going on in the Dominion of Winds? Is it too windy or something?
