Also pulls should be able to be evaded as otherwise they allow the snaring player to set up a spike and pull a player into it when he chooses ignoring most defenses such as block and evade which are canceled.

Yep, that’s the point. And pull doesn’t ignore stability or a well-placed stun-break (aka, the counterplay). Think for a moment about what you’re arguing: What is essentially a single-target pull on a 40s cd will become completely useless just because someone without adequate skill playing one class (thief) can’t counterplay well enough.

Also what exactly isn’t skillful about a well placed pull in order to spike a target? That’s the exact opposite in fact.

How to fix condition: Start using kitten warriors!
Whenever I play WvW I don’t see more than 2-3 warriors in our Zerg and usually they are Berzerker specced which is completely useless.
Seriously, Warrior+Trooper Rune = aoe condi cleanse every 12,16, 20, 20 seconds, aoe swiftness, aoe weakness, banners and with 32k HP and almost 4k armor they push through anything that’s on the ground…not to mention HAMMERKITTENSTUN!

Back in the days warriors used trooper rune, guards used trooper rune…of ourse you are weak af to condis if all of that is gone. But it’s not because condis became OP but because you refuse to readapt to a different situation. Pirateship was yesterday. Change your build if you have problems with conditions. But god beware the idea of playing a core spec since hot did everything better…obviously not in that regard.

I myself have never played ranked PvP besides the first year simply because I didn’t see a representation of skill in grinding your way through divisions. I wasn’t even rank 80, yet got placed mid plat (EU btw) after my placement matches, because I very well know how to play the game without the need of having played ranked before.

Are you sure you belong there? Perhaps you are one of the players making platinum a complete mess. How could you know the difference?

Yes I’m certain with that and I really enjoyed being able to rely on some teamwork and communication.

Actually I find build diversity to be at least decent this season. Sure there may not be a huge variety within the classes but do you know why that’s the case? Because every single profession is viable these days so the variety in roles you could fulfil is just covered by other classes doing it.

Also diversity isn’t that bad.
-Necro, while being pretty hard has at least 3 viable builds
-Warriors can go condi or power
-Dragonhunter has at least 3-4 playable builds
-druids can choose to go full tank or LB

Sure some classes like mesmer, ele or perhaps even thief could use a little more variety but it’s really not that bad. You just have to play different classes if you want variety.

PvP devs already said they are too rewarding for such a low skill floor.

So in actuality there is a problem even if you refuse to see the truth.

Being rewarding for low skill isn’t equal to being op and doesn’t mean that it isn’t easy to play around them.
I agree that DH is insanely easy to play but people in the forums make them up like they can do everything and don’t have a single weakness which is just plain dumb.

If Traps disappear as soon as they are recharged I’d be perfectly fine with it.

heavy burns and other condis
huge AOE unblockable point burst
CC (pulls) pushes
several skills to block for multiple seconds at a time
huge heals
1200 range backstab damage (true shot)
heavy armor (toughness)
teleports

def a lil much. but its ok bc DH dont really bleed people so it balances out (sarcasm)

-Burn is barely their own condition
-the only unblockable skills are ToF, F1 and Deflecting shot, none of which do much damage and especially not “on point” (unless you are bad enaugh to step in and out of tof)
-cc is very average, F1 has 40sec cd, you have to trait for LB and Dragons Maw takes away a lot of survivability
-Huge heals is actually true. Imo you should require more healing power but then it can stay about the same. Not using any Healing Power is way too rewarding.
-True shot? Really?
-Heavy armor? So what? Ever seen warriors?
-Teleports…well…it’s a skill they have. No idea what’s the problem with that. You may not have noticed but guardian is really weak in terms of mobility and doesn’t have a real viable way to get swiftness.

Basically you’ve counted up the advantages of 3 different possible DH builds (and even more which was just plain bs) while completely ignoring their weakness.
If you go full damage, including LB and Dragons Maw you sacrifice a lot of survivability. while it’s still very easy to evade or block your traps.
DH is very weak to cc. You basically never play with more than 1 stunbreaker and if you have the DH cc’d its also very easy to play around their F3 block.
And very high condi pressure is also a pretty good counter combined with enaugh cc.

They’re the [QQ] of EU as far as I can tell. Egotistical group with most of them never roaming without company and are only slightly better than the average PUG.

Of course some of them are skilled but not nearly as much as their popularity would have you believe.

Rev is getting a bit like a thief with less mobility. If you know how to play it well you can be devastating but if you didn’t properly learn the class you’re in big trouble. That hasn’t been the case for over a year now and obviously everyone who doesn’t want to take the time to adapt will first come to the forums and cry instead of adapting to a new situation.
It’s just a fact that certain classes have a steeper learning curve than others. But that doesn’t mean they are underpowered or plain bad. Just like DH’s having a very low skill floor doesn’t mean they are an op class.
If we wanted to have all classes equal we wouldn’t need any more classes.

For you to get banned you really have to use hacks 100% obviously, without any doubt and probably also while a GM is watching you play. They will never ban you just by a video or anything.

I really don’t understand why the algorythm can’t do a simple profession balance.

No. No matter who you are and who you play against you will never play a perfect game. That is one of the first things you have to accept on a competitive level. And in order to improve you have to review the situations you think you failed in and make a plan on how you can do it better the next time you are in this situation again.
If you ever think to yourself you’ve played perfectly like a god and blame everything on the game you’ve already lost. (Not adressing you personally, just a general shoutout to the crybabies in this forum)
It’s true, neither you nor the system are perfect, and since we can’t change the system you are the one that makes the difference. Always keep that in mind. And don’t stop thriving for perfection. Eventually you will be rewarded.

I somehow managed to place in the top 5 after my placement matches (won 9 lost 1). Not really sure how I feel about that because I know I’m not good enough to be here at all. Now I’m really hesitant to play more matches because I’m probably going to get beat down to low /mid plat (where I probably belong) and that just won’t be fun to lose so many matches in a row.

Honestly I’d have preferred to have started low so I could climb instead of starting off high and being expected to fall.

However I’m also considering just playing once every 3 days and see how high I can end at.

Here I see a flaw: leaderboard decay. You are textbook proof of it, direx. If you aced placement and got into the top of the leaderboards, you just need to win one game every three days to keep it. You’re in a comfortable position.

To this, I suggest CONSTANT leaderboard decay at the highest levels. No 3 days. You have to constantly fight to keep your position at the top. You go 1 day without pvp, you DROP. Period. You can even have levels of decay the lower you go down the ladder, all the way to bronze.

Of course it’s a little flawed but there are a few things at least I personally think should be considered.
1) As you can see MMR ratings are still heavily going up on the top to even if you placed high at the very beginning players will gradually push you down.
2) Even if you are only playing one match every 3 days, if you don’t have the skill to play on this level and get crushed every single game that is still at least 20 games you’d have to play and get rekt in until the end of the season.
3) How much does it really matter for you? I mean sure it is somewhat unfair for these people but what do they really get? A title and 20 AP’s for literally not playing PvP the entire season while you play every day and get the pip rewards.
4) Shouldn’t the main focus right now be to get good and balanced matches? That is what true competitive players should care about. And you should want to be teamed with and against similarily skilled players to get the most fun out of the matches. If there is one or two guys camping the leaderboard, who cares? You won’t see them, won’t play against them, all you will experience is an improved (tho debatable to which degree cough cough) matchmaking and more balanced and fun matches.

That seems like a fair compromise considering only a handful of people willing to exploit the system will get a meaningless title to inflate their ego while getting crushed in any skillful aspect of the game.

Skill Rating vs Effective Rating

The patchnotes said

Inactive players will experience skill-rating decay, impacting the division they’re placed in. Decay can be worked off by playing ranked games.

Period of inactivity allowed before decay begins: 3 days.
Skill rating reduction per day: 100.
Maximum skill-rating reduction: 700 (after 7 days).
Decay removed per game played: 100.

So I’m assuming it uses your effective rating for matchmaking so you get a few easier opponents to begin with, but the decay will be reduced by 100 with every game you play giving you an effective MMR increase of 100 per game +- what you get from the actual game itself.

Using your example of -700: You obviously won’t drop from something like 1700 to 1000 skillwise by not playing for a week, but after 7 played games you should be back again competing at your former MMR.

At least that’s how it made the most sense to me.

The curious case of class stacking

I really don’t understand why it’s so hard to implement a system at least seemingly preventing class stacking.
Of course you can always reroll but it should be obvious that most people que ranked with their class of choice, their best class and that rerolling should only be the last option.
I’m not even talking about limiting classes or profession based MMR. All I want is that the servers equally distribute professions at the start of the game.
How can it be that I’m starting a game with 4 guards against 1 guard? At least make it 3v2 that way potentially less people have to reroll. But instead I was forced to go nec and obviously got hit in the face pretty hard because I didn’t really have a dedicated support.
Same story with all the examples where you play with 2 thieves against 0. There aren’t too many thieves, the system just fails in distributing them correctly.

A simple algorithm that equally balances the number of professions (+-1 if uneven) as soon as there is more than one of them really can’t be that hard to implement. Then you have a lot less potential need for profession limits, profession MMR etc.

Each Legendary division title had AP. Profession winner in the Year of the Ascension had AP. Maybe that AP should be removed too for reasons not unlike the OP. Not everyone plays every profession or got a chance to get to legendary. /sarcasm

I posted perfectly valid reason in my original post. Yes, all the 4 seasons had an unique title for legendary which also gave AP. But there was no hardcap on the amount of people being allowed to reach it. If you played enough matches you were almost guaranteed to get them.

Which already was a flaw within itself because you should have never been able to reach the top skill tier just by playing enaugh games. That is far from being a valid reason.

It’s nice to see that you can still do something with necro these days, especially with vanilla nec. I may try to experiment a little more with it.
However you can see how many times he simply survived by luck because they stopped attacking when he had 1-2k left and that normal necro is just entirely unprotected against a quick focus.
Also as always a few guys just played plain bad and not preparing for that much condition pressure because they see necros as free loot.

And no Patrick, it is far from proving your point. Necro is still one of the weakest classes in PvP and very much reliant on a good team composition with lots of support and rezbots.

What you have to understand about cs is that you have a ton more players and still maybe 1/10 the variables gw2 has so statistics work a lot more reliable.
I don’t have exact numbers but I bet the number of active players differs probably around the factor of 100.

Also you don’t have things like class swapping and class synergies in a team because classes simply don’t exist there.

I can for see one massive problem with this system so far with out playing it.

If a good player where to throw there 10 placement matches, they would be placed with the new players, then they could just farm wins and rewards for fun. What’s the incentive not to do this? You know there will be people out there who will do this if there is more to be gained from doing it.

Where is the difference from people losing on purpose and doing this right now? It will always happen and you can only prevent if with actively reporting obvious griefing.

I’m not really sure what all this fuss about “skill rating” is. First off how does that mechanic even work? How do you measure someone’s skill completely without individually watching them in action? Is a player that caps more and engages in 2v1’s truly more skilled than the player holding off 3 by himself while preventing a cap? Lmao my problem with going down this path is that people will use the leaderboard to claim who is and who isn’t skilled. But if you ask me, being able to kill two players out of 3 that are fighting you by yourself is a much better skill rating than capping and defending.

I suggest possibly changing that mechanic to TEAM skill rating. There is only one way to measure skill in this game and it’s in 1v2 wager duels.

I’d assume that their rating uses all the combat statistics that are being displayed at the end and maybe even some more. So if you are tanking a point against 3 guys you will for example take a lot of damage without dying which the system would interpret to your advantage.
Just guessing tho.

What scenarios should the training map cover?

-Talk to an NPC
-choose zerg or roaming mode
-zerg mode: after 5 seconds you will be overrolled by 50 NPC’s
-roaming mode: after 5 seconds you will be instantly killed by 3 dragonhunters and 2 stealthed daredevils
-On screen message: “Congratulations, you’ve completed the WvW tutorial. Get used to it.”

So far the only members in the guild I actually like are myself and Taimi. Kasmeer and Rox haven’t had enough dialogue to really form an opinion on in this episode. I really hope they don’t get angsty and blatantly disrespectful for no reason and wander off. I still haven’t gotten over Marjories quick transition from “You should be our leader! I’ll follow you!” to “You can’t tell me what to do even though I specifically nominated you to do exactly that! You’re not my real dad!”

I think anet made a big mistake telling rox’ story. Many people don’t know a lot about her and many things happened during LS1 which we can’t repeat. She would have potential for a good character (and also has a sad past.. Is that like a requirement to join the dragon watch?)

There is no point to use them in wvw or pvp they do not serve any purpoise in those modes.

Since the mods didn’t seem to mind silently deleting the other thread I posted in I’ll say it again here.
The implementation itself is pretty bad. I think we can agree on that. However the principle of being able to hide behind a corner without your nameplate being 10x wider than your character sounds great. Just make the little dots consistent in terms of coloring, perhaps even a little more noticeable and make the change mandatory so that nobody gets an unfair advantage.

If you got the central waypoint you can literally reach every corner of the map within a minute…no idea how that needs more waypoints.

You’ll be happy to know the Devs are working on more Material Storage. In fact, a thread was created where the playerbase could post what they wanted to be added most.

That thread was only for material storage so nothing but actual crafing materials will be added.

Condi Mesmer needs to be toned down

I agree with this. Sorry, but mesmer is at the bottum of the DPS chart and nerfed with every patch. If they reduce condi, there is just not much left when it comes to PVP or WvW…

These dps charts are long time tests like in the raid lobby against a few million hp. They do not at all represent the ability to actually spike enemies with your conditions which clearly is what mesmers are capable of. Average dps simply doesn’t matter in that case.

I think we’ve seen by now that anet designs things with an equal match up in mind and that would work if it was the case but they try to achieve all that with server links which will never work that way.

Oh yeah you are right. Of course you can already swap your weapons outside of hotm. I kitten ed a little there but the basic point still stands
