I’m not a Warrior main by any means, but wouldn’t you still run discipline because of all the weapon swap benefits it gives? I can’t really imagine these traits not being a standard choice even if they made it baseline.
I mean you get adrenaline, might, conremove and faster recharge on your burst skills from this trait line. How would any Warrior want to miss that?

There are quite a few builds, but you don’t hear from them because they cannot be played.

Reveal is a poor example to prove your point. Reveal should be in the game, it isn’t spammable and should require timing. Which abilities/traits should have it; that’s another discussion. I don’t believe it should be on Spear of Justice, that ability already does too much. Another prime example of over bloat/budget.

It’s also not my job to comment on EVERY single issue. You have just as much ability to bring up the topic as anyone else. If you would have, I more than likely would have commented to the same affect as I did in this.

Agreed. In a good PvP System every mechanic has a counter. Conditions have conremove, boons have corrupt, blocks have unblockable skills…yet there was never a counter to stealth.
As Pyriall said: it’s supposed to be a well timed, well calculated counter that makes for a more interesting gameplay. A thief should on the other hand obviously be able to survive better when said counter isn’t used. That is self explanatory.

I gotta say, it feels really bad to use your 25s cooldown 2s immobilize and have it just broken instantly by a thief or warrior with a dodge or movement skill. It’s like .. why do I even bother?

The immobs were mosty designed back when the game launched and you had to use a condi cleanse to get out, or else wait the full duration (and they aren’t very long).

Yeah and where a necro would save his poison field for a low warrior.
With other words -> does not exist anymore. Less interactive play, less counterplay.

If you want to talk how a design failed, can’t you see there’s more that has to be fixed?

Spear of justice and Detection Pulse are basically the only actively used skills/trait in that list.
I agree however that the passive AoE spam has gotten a lot worse since HoT and I’ve been against it from the very beginning.

Honestly I probably wouldn’t have a problem giving thief a bit more stealth.
When stealthed they don’t cap points.
They can run away already so I don’t care if they do it while stealthed or while being visible
Stealth is also predictable to a certain degree because if you know the class you also got a general idea of when the stealth attack will approximately hit.
Giving thief more access to stealth makes revealed a much more skillful to use counter which, let’s be honest, at the moment it really isn’t.

Yes of course you still need some sort of dps. And as I said Cele can still be questionable.
One example: I like to play my condi nec with blood magic. It’s not the best dps, but I never die and can pull downed teammates out of the dps if they make a mistake.
This makes things a lot more enjoyable for the group, even if we don’t have the highest dps. My nec is still more than sufficient in terms of dps and I’m playing a build I feel comfortable with which again makes for a better playing atmosphere.

My problem is when people are excluded because someone thinks everything has to be meta builds for the fastest clear while this may even be a huge hindrance with a non familiar group.
I’d guess that you can say anything up to at least +-5k dps in these benchmarks is non impactful due to unrealistic testing, personal rotations and possibly added convenience. Sure these benchmarks may be useful for people who know every little detail in mechanics and never make mistakes, like you seem to be, but this doesn’t even apply to a small percentage of players and even less when joining random groups.

I didn’t want to attack you personally or anything, but I think unless you are playing in a fully pre-made group people should be a lot more open about free play styles in the forums instead of basically saying “go meta or go home”

You don’t get it. It’s now about how many classes have immobilize. It’s about how many classes actually use it in everyday pvp. You can have all the immob in the world if it’s placed on non viable weapon sets.

“thief is not countered by mes” then why is all your crying about how you wouldn’t have a chance against mesmers and everything they do kills you?

My logic is that you have one mechanic and one counter to it. Boon corrupt is the counter to boons. But you don’t have a counter to counter corrupts do you? Just like unblockable skills are the counter to blocks.
Dash however is a counter to your counter which makes the latter completely useless and not at all viable. Not all skills are unblockable, you can remove corrupted conditions but you can’t just keep stacking immob until a daredevil is out of dodges.
By your logic my DH would get a trait that makes unblockable skills get blocked by my blocks. Seems legit, right?

And of course dodges aren’t endless. But don’t act like you are the only class that has to think about what to dodge. There is a skill part in evaluating what you have to dodge and what not.

I claimed that immob spells have a long cd and you named exactly one actively used skill where its not the case… How convincing.

Warrior? What of it exactly? Pin down which is on a 25sec cd? Rifle which no-one uses? Bolas? Sword F1 for which he has to get close to you first?

You are basically saying because you are being countered by a chrono no other class should have a window of opportunity against you. How about simply accepting that there are counters for your class? Or do you see thief role in pvp as to 1v1 chronos?
Also show me the chrono that activates quickness just to catch a thief with their immobilize… You are getting g a bit silly here. And the illusion right next to you should be a rather easy tell if you are such an experienced thief.

Yep, here is prime example of a person that doesn’t play a thief but somehow thinks he is an expert. Thief does not have gazillion dodges. But they supposed to dodge everything somehow. Or blow really long CDs to deal with really short CD, yeah sure. You know immob is not only tool other classes have to keep someone in place. What else would you suggest?

P.S. just fyi, dodgeroll heal is called Withdraw and can’t be used when stunned/dazed which occurs a lot when you fight mesmer for example.

I did play thief a lot so put that right back where it belongs.
Hardly any class has access to immob on a big scale or on a short cd. Of course you should use your escape skills against counters like this. You just refuse to accept immobilize as a counter to movement. It’s like you aren’t even reading my post.
Basically every single immo applying skill which is normally used (and there aren’t many to begin with) is at least on a 20sec cd and some of them have massive tells that make evading rather easy like druid staff or guard hammer.
Signet of agility has a 30sec cd making it a very viable choice to deal with immobilize every now and then. It’s not like this condition is being spammed every 2 seconds.
This is very obviously supposed to be a well timed cc and should be rewarded against thief.

Also why would you talk about using withdraw when stunned? We are talking about immobilize here and you just bring random points to victimise thief.

E: another example of your misunderstanding: you talk about how immobilize is really punishing for core thief because you only have 2 dodges… That may be right so, but daredevil doesn’t have 2 dodges and has a lot more mobility. You are mixing things around in a way that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Skills like dash arent good for the game. Something that can remove any movement impairing condi on demand is stupidly overpowered and nullifies some things completely. Do you like playing against the DH survivability mechanic? Now imagine that without any unblockable skills. Fun and interactive right?

Please tell me more about how the 3 dodge endurance bar with your signet of agility arent enough dodges to remove an immob at any time. If you seriously think that you must be using your dodges very wisely.

Even if the trait would have a 10s icd on immob remove it would always still be picked over bound as long as any movement impairing effects have an impact in the game. A trait that makes your dodges give you a damage modifier. Along with damage. Its like a good trait on steroids for any other profession and im talking about bound not even dash.

Before the mad thieves attack, im saying the trait is overpowered, not that thief is. Though thief is in a far better state than any of you think.

Remove reveal on demand, make stealth more viable again and we can talk about nerfing dash. Once again, the hell do you do as thief to stay alive? Every time i ask this question, i always get same answer “dodge” since thief can’t take more than one hit. But here you are complaining that thief uses dodges and has counter to condi that otherwise would prevent them from using dodge. Honestly people, why do you not get it? Thief doesn’t have 28k HP, endure pain etc. to just stand there like training golem and take them beating in the face but this is exactly what you are asking for.

Frosty, i know why you ask for dash nerf. So you can do your mesmer combo wombo without any timing/counting dodges etc. This has nothing to do with balance.

Shatter and shield skills on mesmer are not good for the game, they should be removed. They render player being completely unable to do anything. See, i can do it too.

It does not mean they are always the best, they are effective usually but far from perfect.

I don’t know to which builds you are referring to but I would assume that most of the people caring about min-maxing – which is the way of getting perfect builds – following qT and other proven builds in context with speedrunning. These builds don’t have to be perfect for you but they are in the objective manner because those players try to squeeze the best out of it therefore those builds are perfection in terms of mathematics.

Math hardly applies in real world scenarios though. These builds are being min maxed all the way through, tested under unrealistic conditions on the dps golem with any possible buff that you likely won’t have a 100% uptime, with rotations that can and even more will never be applied by players in a real world scenario.
You can min max all the way you want but it’s a fact that normal dps is more than sufficient for any content and it makes a lot more sense to let people play a build they are more comfortable with rather than forcing them into unrealistic min max builds thex feel uncomfortable with.
A dead dps means no dps. If you are content with playing these kinds of builds then that’s fine but don’t apply this elitist logic that anything worse will cause more stress on the group or even cause them to fail just because someone wants to play a bit more comfortable.

E: this doesn’t necessarily mean that Cele rev is a good idea. I just wanted to get a general point out there.

Personally I never liked longbow in pvp. 2 and 5 make you too immobile, 5 is always dodged anyways and since I prefer con remove over knockback at any time with the strength of condi there isn’t really a reason to take it.
I rather take scepter/shield or even mace and substitute strength in numbers for more personal defense.

Then I ask you: what do you see as a counter to dd? They are always moving, you can’t catch them, they can dodge (not as much anymore) almost everything.
So what is their weakness in your opinion if not having a very small window between their dodges to actually prevent them from running away again?

Besides how op daredevil movement was when it first hit this should be more than easy for a logical thinking person: Daredevils have insane mobility so what is their obvious weakness? I think there is plenty counters to thief mechanics as it is. Once again, go play core just to get the idea why drd dodge cleanses cripple/immobs.

There is a big difference between immob and the other movement impairing conditions. Immob can hardly be spammed out.
Also I think that you are holding onto your core thief a bit too much. Daredevils are always moving, constantly dodging so how exactly is a well timed immob not a viable counter to them that should be rewarded? It’s not like you still got other means of condi removal or could just teleport away for the first second at least.
That is the exact problem all elite specs have: you saw a problem with the old core class, fixed it, yet never brought in any other weakness that would compensate for it.
This leads to the exact power creep they now (finally!) try to reduce because they just kept stacking on top of the core class instead of giving elite specs their own identity with its own counters.

Killing off 3 classes is NOT okay. The fact that you people don’t see that is just sad, its literally like i’m talking to a wall. If Anet feels the meta is too stale and boring, they can shake it up in a manner that does not kill 1/3 of the classes in the game. That is poor balance.

I’m out, there’s no reasoning with people that just never understood the meta because they are too busy in bronze running full traps, or dps eles.

I never said that killing classes is a good thing.
This balance patch is a very good beginning. The past 2 seasons were the most cancerous gameplay we’ve ever had since old d/d ele and the meta desperately needed change. You can’t expect balance to work on the first day. Balance is a living thing that has to be adjusted in small steps to reach perfection….which is why ANet’s balance cycle is perhaps the worst choise they could have ever made. But that still doesn’t make this a horrible patch.
All it would need now are at least monthly balancce updated that are just small tweaks.

Also what classes are exactly “dead”? Warriors, because they have the loudest forum whiners?

lol the fact that you don’t even know what 3 classes anet killed shows you’re just here to argue. You actually have no idea what the meta was, or is now. Killing off 3 classes is NEVER a good start, I’m done talking to you.

Or perhaps it’s that I am not so ignorant to instantly assume a class is dead because it lost some of it’s comfort.
With all the changes you simply can’t instantly tell what will be viable and what will not. It will take at least a week to see what is working how after this change.
There is also still a big difference between being subpar meta and outright being dead which you can not tell by looking at some patchnotes.

Well, in the case of DH’s its not an issue of being a subpar meta class. They are just dead. Demolished. It was one of the few classes “clinging” to the meta as it were, 1 ele just shut it down completly. Now having your damage AND sustain getting absolutly dumpstered, is the very defitniton of a “Dead class”.

Well I’ve played my way to plat with dh the last two seasons and I was rather fine with it. Some changes to it were indeed questionable but I highly doubt that it will stop me from playing it. Though I’m already experimenting a bit with core guard again to see how far I can push it.
But perhaps that is only because I wasn’t really playing a meta dh to begin with.

Signet of Courage is now the best burst heal in the game and the only reason people are considering using it is because its passive is a sub-par Healing Signet. Typical guardian community. :>

You can’t simply ignore it’s passive effect. It’s bad and that’s all you can say about it.
Also explain to me how in 99.9% of the possible situations where someone, who could profit from this kind of heal, would be able to wait over 2 seconds for it without dying.
For being a “burst” it would need a lot smaller cast time. Perhaps even 0.5-0.25 in PvE only as a one time life saver.

If they allow you to move while casting then I’d say the change is fine. Otherwise it should do more damage because the dh standing still and charging his bow is more than an obvious tell.

I think the shield of courage nerf was too much and it’s just not in line with other blocks.
It’s big counter is that you only block 180 degrees and not everything.
It’s now a 3 sec block on a 60sec cd. Obsidian Flesh is 3 sec invuln on a 50sec cd. Warrior shield block is a 3 sec full block on 25sec cd. Sure you can still use other skills while the block is active, but it’s only blocks and not in all directions so I think that is more than enaugh of counterplay there.

Tof is okay I guess. Not too much.
Smite conditions was really unnecessary imo.
Wings of resolve… I think it’s OK to nerf the base heal of things, but add healing power scaling instead. I’m running healing power and it feels more and more useless.
Signet of courage is still bs. They need to make the heal every second like it’s with any other class. You just can’t rely on a heal every 10sec. Also 80hps is was too little for it to be an elite skill imo.

I am from SFR, but if I should vote only for one most unforgettable commander, it would be Troma from enemy server Vizunah Square. What he did with Vizunah ppl in first WvW Season 1 tournament was fantastic. (Vizunah won all rounds in that season, never been 2nd or 3rd so it was an unbeaten WvW Season 1 Champion.)

But you are right. Vizunah performance was incredible back then,though sometimes quite frustrating.

My top commanders:
-Mentacor and Rajnesh from kodash. Especially for their early efforts in teaching randoms the basics of zerg fights.
-from sfr the one that really stuck in my mind is Gabriel Ironfist. Always agressive, always taking the fight and always delivering those sweet loot bags. And I loved his voice.
-KLM was also great. Gotta love random French calls infight.

I’m not particularly confident either, I just disagree that these sorta threads are popping up ALREADY before we know how the spec plays, what it does and how strong it is. The same concern for balance counts for literally all the other professions and yet I’m not seeing similair amounts of crying. Why? Because people like jumping on the Hate Thief bandwagon and it’s getting seriously, SERIOUSLY old at this point.

What bores me even more is people that come on these kinds of posts pretending they know what a Thief does whilst acting as if Thief can magically use 6 traitlines all in one build to get superior EVERYTHING, which is hilarious.

I think Druids are a pain, am I complaining about them? Nope. I think DH is a pain (duh I’m a Thief) am I complaining about how OP they MIGHT be? No, lol. Because I know nothing about any of the elite specs, and neither do you. Just because something is a pain doesn’t mean it’s okay for me to go around bashing it and everyone that’s excited about it.

I can’t wait to see what the Rifle Spec will be, just in case it’s nothing like what people here are saying it will be like, and yet STILL complain about it just because it’s a Thief with a Rifle. Which is basically what this whole post is anyway.

You can already approximate rather well what the new elite spec will be so people’s concerns aren’t exactly unfounded,especially looking at how daredevil turned out already.
Let’s look at what he will get: a Rifle. What do you think this will be? A healer? A ranged condi Rifle? Chances are insanely high it’s going to be a pure damage weapon once again. And they’ll have at least 1.2k range on it as we know from leaks up to this point.

So now lets think about what else thief has: shortbow to run away: check. Shadowsteps for instant stunbreak teleport: check. Signet for extra dodges: check.

All of that is included in core thief already so it’s rather easy to combine 1+1 and assume that the play will be to attack with their high damage Rifle from range, kiting any meele to death, while instantly teleporting away as soon as they get scratched,because this is what thieves are.

Because they stopped their work on balance.
And they also eventually admitted many years ago, that there were simply too many skills in gw1 for them to keep up a decent balance…. Which is understandable with literally far over a thousand skills… And makes the balance in gw2 even less understandable.

I’m all for it but on the other hand you should increase the cd of said bursts.
In your example: if a ranger can hit with his pew pew for like 15k it can’t be their lowest cd weapon skill.

I think we aren’t talking about the same thing here. The shiny sword was just an example om what you are technically missing when you are not playing for pve rewards.

My basic point is this: pve won’t keep you busy for ever. People will eventually find their way into playing pvp, every casual will at some point. If the game is good they will remember and tell their friends, maybe play together with them the next time and eventually the first thing people will hear about this mmo is “I’m having so much fun in the pvp because it’s awesome, diverse, balanced and whatnot. You should try it as well”

For this to happen you don’t need any more rewards. No more carrots. All you need is a solid working game in order to bring people into it. And 100x more players will stay without rewards if they enjoy the game rather than to stick around with a horrible mess just for the rewards.

This is why they should focus their resources on building a better game and not waste them by designing new rewards for a gamemode nobody will ever play voluntarily.

Alright let’s keep it familiar then… Gw1 had an awesome pvp scene with hardly any rewards. But people played it because it was a good game.
That’s what anet never understood: players don’t play a game for rewards. They play it for fun in the first place. Rewards have always been and will always be secondary after gameplay.

That isn’t true at all, in gw1, u needed to control hall of heroes to gain access to end game pve content (with the most lucrative farm), however by winning and holding halls you got access to the chest, which dropped the most expensive skins in the game, along with other incredibly useful and tradeable items like the guild hall sigil, required to form a guild hall. Then they even further upped the rewards with zkeys, another form of PvP progression that made a ton of money.

In the highly competitive days nobody, but the very elite of this game would hold the hall of heroes. Also GvG didn`t have this many rewards, yet was even more popular. And you had all the other PvP gamemodes being played as well.
You can`t take this very rare loot as an example. That would be like saying the average PvE guy will come and play PvP because the top 50 gets some fancy loot. This isn`t the reason an average person plays. Also, while this would seem like an incentive in the eyes of today`s GW2 PvP you have to consider, that in it`s prime time GW1 was insanely heavily played. More than GW2 ever even came remotely close to at it`s peaks.
Also Z-Keys were indeed a nice rewards, but they hardly gave as much value as anything compared in the same time and effort with PvE. Sure it was nice to have but I`d say it was about on the same level as playing PvP for rewards in GW2 now is.

maybe gw1 didnt have so many things to keep players detached from pvp,
at the time a non pvp enthusiast has no reason to do pvp it s waste of time and energy
the progressions is on based on world achievements and stories.

in simple terms game offers better rewards when you dont pvp so why bother.

although i do agree that gw2 combat would attract more people if the combat was more pleasant.

gw1 had classic combat which means stand and cast , tab targeting gets a bad rap lately but overall it might of being a better system for mmos ,it was more relaxing and clearer.

Why you would play PvP when you can get progress in PvE? Because you genuently enjoy playing the game and don`t need an achievement right in your face for every little thing you do? Why would you call it a waste when you are having fun with your friends? Just because you don`t get as fancy a glowing sword as someone else has? Because you care about an imaginary achievement number?
I don`t think you got my point there…

Just run, by not fighting them you are already a winner. Don’t waste your time trying to kill the thief because you will either be killed OR the thief will run away when health gets low and you will never catch him. in the end, you will always lose, you lost your time fighting him or you become a bag.

You may be able to outrun a centaur… But not a daredevil.

Device, League of Legends is a moba,
GW2 is an mmo, and usually in mmos you do various activities.

if they dont give good rewards in pvp then people will choose a different path to advance their accounts its simple as that.

at the time pve gives good stuff and it also has almost endless progression with fractals ,raids and story areas.

in pvp once the season ends everything falls apart.

i would rather get rewards like masteries from pvp rather than go find dive locations and do jumping puzzles.
generally those who want to pvp will pvp more , i dont see how this is bad for the game.

A lot of people are losing interest (or getting frustrated) by these style of maps. I’m sure there are people who enjoy it, but… I just don’t see an equal amount of those folk.

Also whenever someone explains this map I laugh because it just sounds ridiculous.

Because folks who like things tend to play them and not complain in the forums.

In one of the leaks (so nothing exactly confirmed) I read that they are aiming for at least 25k/sec on every new elite spec which would be reasonable for pve… But Unless we get to play with 5k toughness, hell kitten no!

And even if that’s not true they will still make the new elite specs op so people buy the game (and nerf them as soon as they start soloing raid bosses….)

There is nothing better than spreading 20k+ burning ticks with my nec as well as stacking conditions with 2 times spreads.
We currently run 1 engi, 1 war, 1 mes, 2 necs and basically only wiped once or twice. Plus necs can easily rally downeys.

Well I did every single JP in this game including Chalise of Tears and this one with CoT truly being the most annoying. I just love exploring maps and JP’s.

This one I enjoyed because it tackled the JP from a different perspective. It was more about exploration and pathfinding rather than simply jumping forwards.

Also when I want any other achievement I have to do it myself so I don’t see a reason why you should just be able to leech jumping puzzles. Nobody forces you to do everything. Just ignore what you don’t like.

I just noticed the LFG tool is once again full of people offering a port to the end chest of the JP.
It’s too far for a mesmer to reach but teleport to a friend get’s the job done.

You also bound it to the checkpoints in Ember bay, however in this JP they are a lot more obvious and you really can’t miss them so it would make sense.

Also while I’m at it…I heard that this episode is done by the same team as Ember Bay. Was Josh Foreman involved in this JP again?

Well people, i need your opinion as i really cannot figure out if good things are coming or not. I’ve always been #1 guild wars 2 uptades supporter, but now i don’t know anymore… I mean, i’ve been waitin for 3 months just for a 1,30 hrs gameplay episode and this map?

What do you think you’ll be doin’ for the next 3 months , waiting for the next 1,30 hrs gameplay episode + farming map ?

I’m just collecting few more ideas about my time in gw2 in the future, as i don’t really fegure it out anymore…(

Well I already spent around 6 hours only exploring the map, doing some events etc. Today I’ll be playing through the story, find and complete the jumping puzzle. And perhaps I’ll do the same once more with a different character.

This usually leaves me at more than 15-20hrs per patch so it’s fine fore me (even tho I still play through it in 2 days)

Also I wanted to add that I really like this map. I love exploring, finding new stuff, especially getting around with the new mastery, (many times getting stuck in the wall cuz I glitched through some textures ^^")
This map also has a lot of variety which makes it very enjoyable for me.
What I especially value is that it isn’t crammed with enemies like Lake doric was for example. It doesn’t feel empty tho. It just feels right.

The torch looks like drafted by a kindergartner high on acid. They can’t seriously claim the reason why the new set takes so long is because they are taking sooo much effort in making these weapons look special and good.
