Did you play wvw since 2012 ? If no,than why are you complaining ? Anet stated they wanted to reward players keeping wvw alive all this time while it was in a steady decline.

Amazing how everything is Discrimination these days and everyone want the same that everyone else has eventhough not having put in the same effort as those..oh my.

So my close to 3k hours in wvw are worth less because I made them within the first 2 years in opposite to someone who played the same amount over 5 years? Did I not put in the same effort in my playtime?
Why should I get less rewards just because I mained wvw in a time where you couldn’t just ktrain all day long to farm ranks?

As I said before: ranks don’t say anything and as long as the time required to get the rewards is high enaugh to scare off most pve players make it equal to everyone.
If a rank 0 pve player now says the himself “I wanna play wvw every week for the entire year now so that I get this armor” isn’t it much more valuable to have a new player that may even find fun in the gamemode after such a long time? Why would you purposely drive people away who might be willing to now invest the time in this gamemode that has been called dead for years?
Shouldn’t that be worth a lot more than if you get the armor a few months earlier than him?

Because its still good to know how many people are following you and to get your supply count in the squad.
It also looks a lot better the fuller the squad when new people join it.

But when it’s full you will be sacrificed for better zerg classes.

Back in my days, we were the top of EU matchups. For over one year straight we’d face Vizunah almost every week. Over and over and over and over again. Because we had no such thing as random matchups.
Do you have any idea how fighting them felt like? At 5am they’d run a massive train, getting their enemies ticks down to not more than 20 or 30.
You’d come online in the afternoon only to find every single one of their keeps fully upgraded. But that wasn’t enaugh. Whenever you only came remotely close to one of those structures you’d have 20 ac’s instantly bombarding your zerg. But they never fought on open field. They only came to defend what they had. So you’d bang your head against their keeps for hours on end to finally get one, trying to upgrade and defend it in the few hours of prime time you had only to find everything blobbed down in the morning once again.

But it got even better. Because once you finally got in there without being pierced by a million arrows you could literally set up a campfire in there. Because back in my days you’d still banner lords over hours and hours and hours. That was especially fun with spawncamps where you’d just have a never ending stream of enemies contesting the circle and rezzing the lord.

We’ve fought on the top of WvW when it was in its most glorious time, with as much passion for combat as you could only imagine and didn’t gain even half of you k-trainers and eotm farmers. And you can bet your kitten we’ve had a hell lot of fun challenging our combat abilities. But have fun trying to farm WXP like that.
Just because someone has a lower rank doesn’t mean he played WvW wrong in the past. The best ones were actually punished for it.

This rank requirement is ridiculous and shouldn’t exist as anything more than to disencourage completely new players that would only hunt the reward.
Anything more than a few hundred ranks is totally unreasonable for the players that believed and played in this gamemode before it was all about karmatrains.

Jesus, people on both sides of this are being ridiculous. There are players in this thread claiming that

  • 3-4 hours of WvW a night, every night, for years is just “average” play. Are you kidding? That’s so far beyond the average gamer. Stop with your elitism already, its disgusting quite frankly.
  • Rank 2,000 is way too high, because “I’ll never be able to earn it with how I like to play”. Well tough luck. You have to play the game mode to get the rewards that are specific to that game mode.

Both sides of this are being just ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous. The elitism needs to stop, now. The whining because you have to play WvW to get WvW rewards needs to stop, now.

That said, I do agree that the rank requirement is too high. 1,500 would be a lot better in my opinion. And before anyone comes in here crying about how I “want handouts”, take a step back and think about it. Actually think about the work required to get to rank 2,000 in WvW. How long did it take you guys? 1 year? 2 years? 3, or even 4, years? Compare that to legendary armor, what is supposed to be the best/hardest to obtain armor set in the entire game, which can be completed in 12 weeks. Hell, bump that up to 20 weeks to give you time to learn every fight and find a static group. 20 weeks to obtain legendary armor, versus years of work in WvW (and mind you, after you learn the raid fights, its only a few hours per week, instead of 3-4 hours every night) to get to rank 2,000 and be able to get your entire T3 armor set.

The amount of work required is exponentially greater than that to obtain comparable rewards in the other game modes. And that is not acceptable. You can go on all you want about how veterans need to be rewarded and what not, but guess what, you’d still earn the rewards if the rank requirement was lowered. You can go on and on about how people with low ranks just want their rewards faster and aren’t really dedicated to WvW. Well what about people who are new to WvW? Just because they are new doesn’t mean they aren’t dedicated. But you are still content with requiring them to dedicate hours of work every day, for years potentially, just to earn this armor.

This is not ok. The WvW rewards shouldn’t require so much more time invested than the PvE or the PvP rewards. They just shouldn’t. Its asinine honestly. And a slap in the face if you think about it. Stop with your elitism already. The amount of work required for these rewards is much too high considering the amount of work required for the comparable rewards in other game modes. Much too high. It needs to be toned down, and reducing the rank requirement to 1,500 is a good way to do that.

Yup nothing goes to add here. The time required is just hilarious.
The biggest problem I have with the rank requirement is that it doesn’t tell anything. You could have farmed it in eotm, you could have bandwagoned to the best winning server every month doing pvd all day or you could have been on a miserably populated server without a lot of things to do before links were a thing. Or perhaps you were a dedicated scout?
Why should any of these be worth more than the other? (except eotm) Yet the amount of ranks gained from this vary by an insane amount.

The big problem I see right now is that anet brought this armor as a motivation to keep playing wvw from now on, but wvw elitists think they deserve to own it right now, because boohoo they didn’t get any shiny in the past.
You know what? Just lower the rank requirement to a level that not every pleb can afk farm the pips (a coule hundred perhaps) and keep the time gate at at least one year. Then we’ll see who really is dedicated to wvw, because now everyone is even. And wvw players can be happy about an increased population.

Only issue i have is that the buffs in coliseum seem a bit underpowered to me.

The pip rewards are the bigger issue than the rank requirement tbh. Could use a look at.

Actually I’m way more fine with the pip requirement, because it still encourages you to actively play the gamemode and to work for your rewards instead of resting on your Eotm rank.

And if you have to actively play the gamemode for a couple months to gain your reward it doesn’t really make sense to require previous time, because this dedication should be enaugh. It’s not like in PvE where all you need to do is to play for half an hour each day in order to achieve something.

You forget that not everybody is running ktrain 24/7.
I’ve played hardcore WvW for at least 2 years at around 3-4 hrs of WvW each day, I’m not even at rank 1000 and I won’t let anybody tell me that I’m not dedicated enaugh or don’t deserve the rewards yet.
Even if you are rank 1000 you’ve spent a dozen times more hours in this gamemode than any PvE or PvE player.

I’ve also made over 20 ranks since the patch, but that’s with birthday booster and the highest player participation since the last tournament. That is in not a single way representative for your average WvW life.

Unsure what you’ve been doing for two years, i play for 2-3 hours a night and get 3-4 ranks minimum an hour. If you play 3-4 hours a day to not even be at 1k you have to be not getting ranks at all when you play, which is nearly impossible if you’re actually playing. You can literally run around for 20 minutes capping camps and sentries and get a rank or two.

Oh you know…Guild raids, scouting….all the good stuff you never got rewarded for.

Shroud needs it’s cool down removed completely.
This would actually solve many of the Reaper’s problems concerning:

  • 1v1 prowess
  • general survivability
  • reluctance to shroud for #2 for mobility, in fear of being picked off during CD.

Nothing huh? It seemed as tho many people were able to get to legendary in seasons 1- 4 but in 5 and 6 what like 2 people had legendary in the last season? High risk very low reward for season 5 and 6.

Issues with 5 and 6:

-Lacked a system for people to get to legendary.
-Put bronze vs gold (Rare occasion).
-Lacked map diversity (Conquest circle dancing or bust).
-Hey look i worked hard to gold but got sick for a week now i’m bronze.
-Leader board added joke of more then usual match manipulation top few guys had “alt accounts”.
-Still lack of build diversity. Either your a run teef or a 1,000 block burn guard to play conquest or at least required on the team.

I’d say season 2 and 3 were the best out of them all. They got it semi right compared to the last 2 joke seasons.

No the difference was that due to the mixing of both your MMR and the Pip system even in Diamond you’d be playing with players of your MMR. This meant that you could go your way to Legend by playing against now Silver players while the legit Legends had to play their own MMR caliber to get up.
Also due to the forced winrate of your MMR you’d eventually always go up no matter how bad you were. You just needed enaugh games. That’s why so many people were Legendary.
And that is a good thing about Season 5/6. Because the legendary rank is supposed to be the Creme de la Creme of this game and not achievable for your average gamer.

The fact that there were so few players in Legendary (only NA tho) and that you had pairings of such high skill difference aren’t issues with the Seasons themselves.
They were only issues because the balance team at Arenanet (not the PvP team) were unable to make any meaningful changes to this gamemode in terms of balance and build diversity and therefore many frustrated players left. The system itself was better than anything you had before.

Decay wasn’t permanent and you could easily work it off within a few games. I don’t see what your point is.

Leader boards again were a great thing to be added. Sure you can’t deny that there was match manipulation, but still everyone who was up there belonged up there. The alt accounts legit played their way up there. You wouldn’t see a Silver player being carried to Legendary. It just wouldn’t happen. In the seasons before that however, anyone could be Legendary.

The only thing that could be argued about is map diversity but that surely is the smallest out of all problems that would stop people from playing PvP.

@Crinn Seasons 1-4 were legit and great. Then they tried to improve it just to fail. Seasons 5 and 6 leader boards were complete a jokes on gw2 pvp.

Ha! Nothing about seasons 1-4 was legit. There were no real ranks and anyone who played enaugh games could grind his way to legendary. And if you just started a month later you had to grind your way through divisions full of the worst players that actually belonged down there due to their skill level. That’s like saying anyone who comes late now has to start at bronze 1 and grind their way up. Have fun doing that on a non hard carry class.
How is that in any way more representative than what season 5 and 6 delivered?

As far as development goes. I suspect it’s management that holds up development more than the actual productive effort. Like a long chain of approval slows things down in that respect. Speculation is useless, but it did take a long time in my opinion.

nightcapping is hardly a major issue anymore every timezone is worth the same now, no one timezone can open a 50k over a coarse of a night

Balance and population and prob still the biggest issues

In terms of points I don’t think people care about nightcapping with the current system. It’s still an issue with respect to your “population” problem since it means enemy structures get fully upgraded and start bleeding into other time-zones as an advantage.

then get rid of auto upgrade, im on SBI last week we own our ebg keep for maybe 5 hours out of the week its was t3 everytime I logged into to play. I think the system is fine. I’m tired of people convincing Anet score is the main problem when reality people leave cause balance is wack

I agree, points definitely aren’t the main problem.
In my opinion it would work like this:
First of all people need to have fun in the gamemode. They need to enjoy playing it. That’s where the actual basic skill balance, population balance, aformentioned upgrade balance etc fits in.
Then, once people enjoy playing the gamemode and want to take it a step further, this is where scoring kicks in. It caters to the competitive nature of humans and causes people to invest more time in order to achieve victory and makes them really passionate and caring about their gamemode.
This is where you have to take into account the impact of nightcapping, the importance of primetime, ppt vs ppk, etc.
And lastly as the cherry on top you have to reward people for what they are doing. This however only really helps when at least the first point is functioning. Nobody will play a broken or unbalanced gamemode just for some rewards. And as we’ve seen the shift in the last years people will actually gravitate more towards rewards if scores and points are simply meaningless. Both these points are sort of interchangable, but if you want to go for a competitive gamemode then scoring should definitely have a higher priority than rewards.

This doesn’t mean that rewards can or should be entirely absent, but this is kind of the priority list that you should be going down imo. And I have the feeling that the Devs don’t work their way down these priorities but just do whatever they think to be nice right now.

I’m just putting out this small thought.
Note that I might be wrong, but if I recall correctly way back when we had the polls for QoL improvements and rewards over matchmaking, nightcap etc. one of the arguments that the devs put out there was that these QoL changes could be implemented easily and quickly…and that was only how long ago? (Seriously I don’t know anymore. Someone tell me when we had this poll >.<)

While I really do appreciate the increased rewards, I’m just sitting here wondering how long we’d actually have to wait for some real changes to this gamemode, like a fix for nightcap, a real comeback mechanic and all the things we’ve been craving for since almost 5 years now.
Because these small (and yes I do call this implementation small) additions now, while highly appreciated, have been far from “fast”

After the first week all casual players will have realised that this is the same old WvW they never wanted to play.
Only thos who play WvW now will appreciate the rewards, but you can quote me on that: Rewards only will not keep players in a broken game mode.
Because this is what actually happened in PvP. People got hyped in season 5 because everything was new and fresh and after that they realised it’s the same old PvP with the same boring metabuilds.
So unless the way WvW is being played changes there won’t be a permanent increase in player numbers.

I think necro is fine. You have to be patient and play within the class limitations. Their big plus is their skills become more effective the more targets there are in the area. Axe, scepter, great sword, staff, and war horn are all good weapon sets for sPvP. They have quite a few utility skills that are good as well. Just accept you aren’t going to have the mobility of a thief. What you do have for kiting is chill, cripple, and weakness which are better for holding points. Also you have shroud which acts as a second life bar that you can charge by attacking. The only thing I don’t like is enter and exit shroud are the same button. Some times it isn’t responsive so you want to hit the button again, and other times it seems like you only hit the button once, but you enter and exit shroud instantly.

I don’t really agree with a few points there.

  • Weapons get more effective the more enemies are there. Only true to a very small degree. Sure some skills can be a little more effective, but I wouldn’t say that the increase is big enaugh to really qualify as a pro for necros. Staff is still rather weak and most of your AoE probably comes from reaper shroud. Perhaps the only weapon that really qualifies is scepter due to it’s low cooldown cc.
  • The thing about kiting, and basically the entire point of this thread, is that this stuff barely helps you anything. Sure you have a little bit of chill and a little bit of cripple, but that stuff is instantly cleansed or you are simply kept immobilized and stunlocked or chilled/crippled yourself without a way to remove it due to the stupid heal skill in which case your enemy doesn’t even need to remove it in order to stay with you. You basically only have one fear skill since you definitely want to keep shorud 3 active for the stability, but that one or even two fears are instantly stunlocked or they instantly charge/teleport at you again while you are walking away slow as a turtoise.
    And the second life bar doesn’t give you more than 2-3 seconds if you are being focused. Sure, you are alive for 3 more seconds but how does this help you if you can’t do anything in this time nor are safe afterwards? If you teleport away 1200 units you are way safer during this time, can cast skills and if you use terrain you can even entirely avoid your enemies which is what any other class does with their ports.

I personally do not understand why people think that high HP + shroud from necro is so useless. Once again, go play thief/dh/ele with zerker amy – you will get one shot by everything, literary. Maybe it will teach you the difference between low HP pool and highest HP pool in game. As necro you can at least take few hits and still have time to react. As low HP class – you are instantly in downed state. There is no room for reaction anymore.

So you are telling me that instead of having the ability to run away from what kills you it’s better to not be able to do anything about it but at least survive 3 hits before you get killed? That makes no sense at all.
If a Warrior stuns you and starts his 100b your deathshroud is instantly gone and he’ll keep attacking you, but If you teleport away he first hast to get close to you which gives you a lot more freedom. Also you aren’t locked in aoe fields when you have he ability to just get out there which is why the shrouds usefulness goes down exponentially the more people are in the fight and since necros rely solely on team fights… I guess I don’t need to go further.
Perhaps you should start playing necro for once instead of telling everyone to try out thief. Because I did play both last season and playing daredevil is a joke compared to necro… And don’t start with your “but core thief” again. You have daredevil and can use it.

I like the challenging JP’s. They are fun and nobody forces you to do them.
Also not all of the new JP’s are like that. Lake Doric had a very humane one for example.
As already said: these are made from Josh Foreman. The guy behind Mad King’s Clocktower, SaB and Chalise of Tears…this guy doesn’t do easy. And I like that.
Also having an explorer like element makes them different and stand out, as long as there are little clues (like in the skeletons in the most recent one) and you aren’t running completely blind.

I am curious, would necro be willing to give up some of their dmg and HP/healing/defensives for more mobility/blocks?

What healing? What defenses? What kind of damage? Didn’t we already clarify that necro has at best medium damage and is a walking punching bag?
Taking even more damage away would make him into a tickling runaway whose only job is to provide some corrupts so that his teammates can break through the enemies defense.
And this could actually work….had GW2 a better pvp with defined roles, but that’s not the topic here.

What you could take away however, as many people already suggested, is the shroud.
Just ignore the second health bar (which is being torn down within seconds anyways), give him blocks, invulns, teleports, a useful heal skill, bring back some toughness amulets and then we can talk.

  • Flesh wurm could be a great escape skill without a kitten 1.5sec cast time. Make that 0.25 seconds and it’s an actual escape. (Or make it break stun on the actual cast and take away stunbreak on the teleport to make it an actual instant escape like many other classes have)
  • Increase the cd on spectral armor to 50sec and make it a 3sec invuln so it matches obsidian flesh. Give the protection and life force gain to spectral walk instead. Also add a small damage reduction while the shroud is active to actually encourage life force gathering.
  • Make death’s charge a 1sec block with projectile reflect. That would make it 1sec block every 6 seconds matching about warrior’s shield stance only that a) you wouldn’t even be able to cast it on cd due to shroud recharge b) you can’t be stationary with the skill and c) you’d have to use it more tactically due to the low duration.
    This however wouldn’t help core necros.
  • Lower the cast time on Consume Conditions. This skill feels atrocious to use. 0.75sec would be the absolute maximum in my eyes. As a Dh player having to deal with purification I can however say that even this is on the very edge of playable.
  • While we are at it…make other heal skills useful. Change the healing signet so that the stacks are only healing you, reduce them to about 10 Stacks and take away the one stack per second limit. At the cd of 35 seconds you want to aim at about 8k heal. Perhaps even a bit more to reward you for managing to take down all stacks. Also reduce the cast time.

These are only a few things and nothing of that would make necro horribly overpowered but bring them in line with other classes, assuming we cut the “second health bar”
In team fights it would require you to decide to which extend you want to hunt the necro down without being able to focus on any other enemy or if you’d rather wait for your thief (your job right here) to arrive and help with the matter…also someone they couldn’t run away from.

Removal of damage sigils (including Earth/Geomancy) was a bigger impact than the removal of sustain sigils.

No one cares more about sustain sigs except for maybe Ele. Even then, they’re fine on a good Nec comp where aoe damages and Nec support matter a bit more than an Ele self sustaining himself.

Those sigils gave my bunker dh about another 300-400 hps which is definitely not neglectable.

Yeah the heal trap became really bad. I actually simply used the heal signet a couple times over this one. The trap already became annoying to use with the cast time nerf.
Arguments for dh?
-more heal due to wings of resolve (also allows you to kite a bit)
-more and longer blocks (duh)
-more protection uptime thanks to Test of faith.
-ez condition removal on block

Conditions really aren’t an issue for dh’s but since mender is your only choice you lack defense which is why I always go for high protection uptime. So playing mace/shield already gives you quite some defensive abilities, but ToF helps you even more, because it stacks even more protection and allows for kiting a bit (and does damage lol)

The biggest counter to your guard is a well placed cc chain. But people can’t do that below plat.
First time I actually noticed how vulnerable you are was right at the start of season 5. I never played ranked before, because I thought the seasons before were a joke, went straight to plat after placement and even got in the top 200 where I got matched against Helseth and his duo friend (who at the time was like rank 10) and kitten … I never got so destroyed.

Yeah I think the biggest problem is that you only have 2 truly reliable condition removes, being Smite Conditions and Contemplation unless you wanna skill full shouts which nobody does.
If they added conremove to some other skills they could open up a lot more variety to Guard. I figured making purge remove a condition every tick could make it worth taking for example, since you got the consecrations trait in the Virtues line anyways.

Traited VoR removes 3 conditions from the entire team, make it double with Renewed Focus. Symbolic Guard has Smite Conditions, 2 condi removal via Smiter’s Boon on heal, Absolute Resolution (x2 with Renewed Focus), Contempation of Purity, Focus 4 (less reliable, but not bad). All of that plus decent healing with Mender’s amulet and other Guardian defenses to negate getting hit in the first place, so surviving condis is not a huge issue in my experience.

Eeeeeh..you missed my point I think.
Of course your average DH is really strong against condi, but it’s basically impossible to build a decent build without Valor and Medis, hence why I said that guard is much more limited in terms of builds than it would need to be.
Playing medi is the only viable choice because they give you everything you need. They give you a very good amount of conremove, a useful stunbreaker, some nice burst damage that can easily be timed, fury and healing. And yet all of that in addition to 2x Virtues is barely enaugh to keep DH on the edge of being meta.

Personally I’m trying to play a bit more bruiser-like right now. While DH isn’t very strong in teamfights anymore you got a very good amount of mobility and excellent 1v1 capabilities so that’s what I try to focus on right now.

Ah, I see. Yeah, agreed. I actually like running Honor instead of DH aka free-to-play variant of the Symbolic build. All of those healing traits make you stronger in team fights and bigger/longer symbols help you force people off points and provide better cleave.

Yeah I love to play symbolic as well, but always with DH. In the past 2 seasons up to about Plat1 I could carry entire games simply by holding points 1v2 with this build, but above that level people finally knew how to counter a DH so I had to settle more for teamplay.
However I’m having doubts about how possible this still is with the recent nerfs :/

Dh is rather easy to pick up and learn.
Does okay in pvp (not spectacular tho), better on lower levels and guard is always a good choice in wvw for stability. Definitely fun to play (but what answer did you expect in the guard forum? =P)
For pve content its probably the worst class you could use,but I’ve never really played it in PvE myself. It’s dps is really bad and it’s rather useless as a pure support so you probably won’t find a raid group.

Entirely ignoring the fact that DH is far from dealing a lot of damage, the pull being reasonably predictable and that the matchmaking algorythm no longer allows more than 2 of each profession in a game….

Necro is not a 1v1 class. Necros are strong in teamfights, while DH is a very good profession for 1v1’s and reigns supreme in low skilled matches.
DH has been nerfed many times already and arguably been pushed out of the meta with the last patch. Any more nerfs would outright kill it.

About any teleport (e.g. mes is affected as well) counts as double, it is not exactly intended but yeah…. as far as DH goes, the main issue was always class stacking not DH itself. 1 Dh was never issue, multiple were due to their synergy with each other ( shared blocks, heals, stab, traps everywhere).

Does this actually happen with mesmers? I mean it’s intended with thief because their skills are shadowsteps, but mesmer only has teleports so this shouldn’t happen.

Hell yeah, go for it.
Imo guard is the most versatile class in pvp right now.
You can make every single weapon work really well (OK except staff, but staff just sucks) and with this adjust your weapons and their corresponding traits to your personal playstyle, though you will almost certainly run the meditation trait as well as dh, but even these can be substituted for other trait lines if you know you class well.

I’ll still have to see for myself if I can make any of these builds work in plat, but you have to know that guard definitely isn’t the best or even a good choice anymore since the patch. But I love playing it and I can make it work for myself, because of its versatility.
It’s strengths definitely lie more in 1v1 rather than teanfights.

Oh… And it’s an OK class for doing pve alone, but not really suited for group play.
