Whats the meta right now?

The playstyle itself hasn’t changed a lot.
As said above many people run the elite specs now. Warriors seem to have gotten a bit more rare since it’s more and more towards the backline’s damage so you mostly got guards in your frontline for the buffs.

You definitely still find a lot of classic necros. The reaper has a bit better sustain but the meele attacks also kind of restrict you. It’s more of a personal choice there. (Reaper mobility really isn’t that much of an argument for me since you can easily get 100% swiftness uptime)

And of course revenants with their hammer.

For your 20 man setup I’d suggest 6 guards, 1 warrior, 2 revenans, 1-2 mesmers, 3 eles, 1 druid, 4-5 necs and one more optional spot for basically anything. If needed you could also swap 1 nec for another frontliner.

I wouldn’t consider it that op. It is an obvious hard counter against condition heavy builds. Hard counters are important in pvp imo.

The most important thing is that now eles aren’t simply immune to any sort of cc which balances this trait in a good way,since cc is the best counter for Elementalist.

You mean RvR is dead becuse there no other rvr game type out there other then GW2 WvW and that not surprising becuse RvR never last all that long at high number in NA. Its just not a game type that has a long life becuse it going to burn ppl out becuse of the 24/7 game play.

daoc is a clear example that this kind of gameplay can live over 10 years with monthly subs if you do it properly.

I’ve always wanted private tags but with the changes to the number of rallys I’m not even sure if rallybots matter that much anymore. (I’m talking about 2-3 pugs not 20)
The only reason for us (and surely for many others as well) to refuse random was because 1 dead “noob” leaded to 5 enemies alive.

If there only were players on the borders to see how this affects fights now…

To resolve the WvW poppulation shrinking issue, and other issues, they should implement an achievement panel were you can get a legendary back item to. PvE has it, PvP has it, why should WvW not have it?! I’m forced to play PvP to get a desired skin ( I really want it), but I would love to get one in WvW. So many ppl would join the WvW, so many wars/fights would be like in the older days, at start! It’s just motivation, I’m not motivated when I play WvW…

Because forcing players to play a bad game for good rewards is not what will bring back wvw.

I always go stronghold because conquest is the most useless ridiculous and boring gamemode ever.

The forced on point fights take away 90% of the strategic elements this game has to offer.

Well ppk is surely not a system against huge blobs, but imo this should be fixed by other things anyways.
But it does make sure that a match between equal servers relies on their skill and not only on caps.

I am 100% for it. I am on sfr (EU) and we had to fight Vizunah for almost 2 years straight. You won 99% of the fights unless they outnumbered you 2:1 or had 10ac behind them but because they pvd to hell at 5am you don’t have any chance to win the match by points.
When you wanted to take a camp they respawned for hours to contest the circle just to make sure you wouldn’t cap it. (We actually did this for 2-3 hours yes…) Now imagine ppk there.
The point is: when your enemies are only hiding in their keeps and you can only get them to fight you by attacking their structures this is where you can actually get points then.

And in a world where guilds could actually fight larger groups they could also have a very meaningful impact.

I’d say it’s a very useful system for the future. But it can hardly ruin WvW anymore right now so…yes please.

They can’t even track if people teleport across the map within 5 seconds…

The point is that WvW ranks are not WvW exclusive so eotm noobs that farmed their Platinum would just massively damage their server.

sorry for the double post and this thread is tldr but anyway heres my suggestion
why not add the points per kill system like
a normal rank killed = 10point
bronze= 50 point
silver= 100 point
gold=300 point
platinum=500 point
mithril=1000 point
and last diamonds = 5000 points

Are these points for the killing players’ rank or for the killed players’ rank?

Anyways it simply won’t work with brainless eotm farmers thinking they are super diamond pros.

Tbh I don’t think that blobs will havily change their strategy. People won’t do anything different. You will have heavy meele pushes and strong range pressure.

The only thing that will change is that guild raids will have better chances because you can’t rally the entire enemy group with one killed player anymore.

They’re not talking to us. They sent their PvE forum liaison – who is neither a developer or a customer representative – to deliver information she doesn’t even understand, being that she is never in this subforum and doesn’t play WvW.

Well you know…it’s not the developers’ job to write something in the forums. If they do it it’s nothing more than a friendly gesture.
Gaile is “ArenaNet Forum Communications Team Lead” so it is her job to communicare with us.
And tbh…with all the toxic people in this forum I wouldn’t go there myself either if I was a dev.

I did like the gliding system in ArcheAge if anyone played that. Now that watercombat died I think air combat is a good replace

They could just put some “air turrets” on the walls that blow away gliders once they come too close, like a horizontal up draft which shouldn’t be too hard to do. You don’t wanna lose all your pretty HP just because you come too close to the walls.

For God’s sake what the hell are you guys talking about?
Nobody ever said that these changes are going to revive wvw and they especially didn’t say that these are the only changes being made.

I don’t like wvw at the moment and I don’t play it very often anymore, but they did give us a message asking for feedback about the proposed changes.
Nobody cares about your useless negativity. They wanted feedback for these changes so give them godkitten feedback about these changes and not your endless crying about the map or whatever.

You are the reason they are not talking to us.

Do I expect any miracles from them? Not after 3 years in the wasteland they call wvw. But stop putting your negative kitten into all these threads. They asked for feedback for 4 simple changes and you all go crazy again.
You can complain after they implemented stupid things they didn’t ask us for but not when they do actually finally talk to us.
You always say they don’t write anything in this forum but instead of trying to help improve the gamemode you leave your kitten under every red post just to then open the next thread asking why none of them is posting in these forums.

There have been almost 8 pages of positive feedback. I hope that’s enough for the devs to not wait with the implementation. So they can go ahead and ask us about the next things.

PS: I never actually recognised any playstyle changes whether ppk was enabled or not so I don’t see to much of a problem there.

So…wait…cata cost was a main complaint on this forum? Really? I think if we rank the complaints, it wouldn’t even hit the top 20 let alone be one of the top 5 that are being addressed. Sigh.

Cat cost change indicates they’re sticking with the desert BL. Even at the cost of unbalancing EB gameplay. It’s a good sign they’re not listening at all.

My thoughts exactly. I can’t remember EVER seeing a post saying “Wow..cata costs are too high and we have to run back and forth a whole bunch of times to get supply.” I do, however, see a bunch of posts saying the new BLs are crap.

Many people raised concerns with the guild cata nerf so I do appreciate this change.

ANet did a great job with the Arrow Cart line of sight fix. First, it could hit inside any structure when placed properly. Then they “fixed” that but it also made it impossible to hit anything outside a structure as well. Then they did the proper fix, and they did it very well – now Arrow Carts cannot hit inside structures but can be placed in out-of-reach areas while still being able to hit outside.

This is the type of mentality that infuriates me, not only about this game, the approach of Anet, but the people of today.

I do acknowledge that it was something that needed to be fixed, and it was fixed, albeit, not in a timely manner. This issue existed FOREVER. The only reason why it got fixed when it did is because of the camera changes that came out mid year made it so everyone could exploit the issue, not just people with multiple monitors and ifinity. The squeaky wheel got louder. That’s all.

Here’s the thing: why are you, and we (I’m not immune to this. I gave a big thank you when they fixed culling), thanking them so much for fixing things that were broken to begin with? That’s just a pretty sad state of the gaming community.

It’s like you buy a new car, and there’s all kinds of stuff on it that are broken or not working right. Yeah, it’s new, and has a really cool body shape, tinted windows, awesome paint job, and gets you from point A to B. But, the alignment is off, the radio only gets AM stations, the suspension is off. The AC only puts out heat. Only the passenger window roles down. Then, slowly, over the course of a couple years, the car company fixes each thing. We’ve been living with no AC in the summer, so we’re super happy when they fix it. But it never should have been sold in this state to begin with.

WvW is more like training a dog. At the beginning they do what they want, have no idea what you wanna tell them and you have to invest a lot of time. But if they finally do something right you gotta give them a cookie

I don’t know what you’re talking about. I think there were a whole 2 people who were responsible for this new map. One who did all the environmental stuff (who actually built it), and one who did all the programming for the mechanics / npcs. I can’t remember their names. One is female, the other male. I played with the environmental artist a few times in TS. They seem like nice people, but they are not WvW players. I highly doubt they were working on this map for over a year. If they were, then it wasn’t full time.

Well I don’t know a lot about the developement process in GW2 but you also have to think about that because it is very difficult to create a WvW map this is perhaps the 10th attempt of a fully structured map.
How I imagine it:
First you need to get a basic idea of the map, then you need to design a basic prototype which probably takes a few weeks per map. Then you play around a little bit, testing the gameplay, adjusting keep positions, siege ranges etc. So you are busy for maybe 2-3 months trying to create such a complex map. Maybe you’ve watched the Tyria3D series from Wooden Potatoes. This is the state I’d imagine the maps to be at this point.
Having done the testing there are maybe 3 candidates left. Those need to be refined even further, you add some basic gameplay to them and test which is the best. I’d guess this takes around 1-2 months.
In the meanwhile you need to create all the textures needed, programm the AI, design your NPC’s, do the audio, test things repeatedly while refining your terrain and adding some effects.
And then again: testing, testing, testing.

So you get about 6-7 months with costs for maybe 1 map designer, 1 gameplay designer, 2 artists and 1 sound designer, depending on their amount of work for the map only. You also have to consider the entire infrastructure, server costs, electricity costs, the cleaning person which altogether costs you quite a sum of money.
And of course all the people you need to test the gameplay.

And now the community demands you to do about a third of the work once again.

This just ignores the substantial feedback that takes issue with the map itself – a large part of the problem IS the map, not just the mechanics. People have left lengthy criticisms of the map’s verticality, winding paths, and far too numerous choke points for a host of reasons. You can pretend it’s just inept mechanics holding the map back all you want, but I quit weeks ago – as did many others – and there’s zero chance of us logging back in until both the map itself and the mechanics are rethought/redesigned. ANet has a solid record of incompetence when it comes to WvW at this point; it’s going to take a lot more than an acknowledgement of poor design/implementation and a promise to do better.

Well this is just my opinion. Realistically spoken there is close to zero chance they’ll just give us the old maps since it’s basically the biggest promise for hot in terms of WvW, and neither will they work on a remake for another 6 months.
And while I do wish the map was more open it’s definitely the last thing that I see as a problem. (I’d rather go for a useful balance patch)

You also have to think from the company’s perspective. They’ve been working on this map since 1-1.5 years and it cost them a couple hundred thousand dollars.
Just removing some mechanics to focus more on the pure WvW experience would make sense from an economical perspective while still providing us players a better experience.
The other option would be to rework the map, which takes some months and in which you can expect close to zero visible activity from the devs again. Is this what you want?

Maybe some of you who are into Counterstrike know that the recent patch wasn’t very welcomed at the community. Now five days later we got these patchnotes.

15 Dec 2015 -

We made some adjustments to rifles recently, and those changes have been causing a lot of pain in the CS:GO community. The pain was the result of a few mistakes we made, and while we usually prefer to avoid disrupting conversations happening in the community, we wanted to talk about some of the thinking that led to the recent changes as well as our plan for moving forward.
Why change rifles at all?

In CS:GO, spraying is generally the most popular way of firing a rifle. We can see this pretty clearly in the rifle data that we collect internally, and it’s something we hear the community discussing frequently.

It’s difficult to measure the impact on gameplay when too much changes at once. The Winter Update came with some really huge changes to gameplay, including a new weapon, an adjustment to pistols, and the rifle change. Since we likely changed too much too quickly, in today’s update we’re rolling back both the rifle and pistol adjustments to their pre-Winter Update state.

We failed to anticipate the reaction of the community to changes in such heavy-use weapons, and we clearly need to re-evaluate our process for making and communicating about changes in that space.

We’re constantly reading community feedback and while we don’t often respond directly, understanding the community is one of the most important parts of working on CS:GO. Mistakes happen, but when they do, we’re committed to making sure they get fixed.

What do I want to say with this?
This is an example of what I’d like to read from ANet side. We all love this gamemode, and we appreciate your work for it.
But please listen to your community. Valve saw that the community heavily disliked the partially gamebreaking changes and therefore took them back to take a better look on them – think about doing the same.
Their measured data showed that the updates didn’t bring the desired results, and looking at the current state of WvW your data should be pretty much the same unless you really want to kill WvW.

Just admit your mistakes. Nobody is perfect on the first attempt and we are no monsters. You’ve tried something – and it failed. But together with your community you can make it work. Just stop doing everything on your own. Too much change at once can hardly be controlled and creates much more bad mood on both sides. Patching 10 things in a period of 10 months is much worse than releasing 1 thing every 1 month, because you have to work on 10 things at a time, evaluate the impact of all 10 on each other and try to figure it out while the game is broken for the entire time without even knowing if the “fix” will even work for everything. If you release patches piece by piece it’s much easier to control and balance each single update.

So please; it’s not even about the maps, it’s about all the new mechanics. And as you can read in the dozens of threads in this forum and on reddit it’s a mixture of many many small things, things that need to be looked at seperately instead of mixing everything together.
I don’t say that you need to bring back the old maps. Just take the new ones and remove all the failed/broken mechanics, except the ones that are 100% appreciated like sentries and dolyaks, rework them internally, let us play with them piece by piece and slowly build up a great gamemode with our help. (I’m talking about things like the oasis event, the passive keep defense mechanisms, auto upgrades and things like these)

I tell you I am 99% certain that whatever the mysterious WvW overhaul will be – it is most likely just too much of an untested change, because it’s simply impossible to simulate all the different existing playstyles in your small WvW team. And I asure you it will once again be a huge kittenstorm in the forums because, even if you have good intentions, you are simply trying to accomplish something impossible.
And once this happens I’ll be here and say “I told you”. Not out of spitefulness, but out of sadness. Because after more than 3 years you are still not willing to learn from your mistakes.

EU population is the lowest I’ve ever seen, barely any queues and outnumbered on all borders, apart from EB ofc.

I’m sure it’s similar elsewhere.

Jayne…you know we don’t like each other very well, but I have to agree on this.

I’ve been on sfr for years now. A server that used to have the biggest influence caused by guilds. Before people left because they were tired of fighting blobs 3v1 all the time in t1 you could easily have 3 or 4 guild raids on EVERY border organising their stuff.
During normal pug raids you could easily have 75-80% players from organized WvW guilds, which made sfr insanely strong in fighting and the strongest server of all in my eyes; ppt or not. No matter where you went you could be sure that people knew how to play, how to follow, and how to fight with balls. Everyone worked together, helped each other and knew each other.
And this is the reason why it will always be my most loved community.
The fighting spirit is what made us strong. There is no challenge in rolling over your enemy 2v1. Or the good old “we don’t need siege, we simply kill them once they arrive”
And then there came the bandwagoners…but that’s another chapter

You could never ever have something that beautiful by mega servers or by forcing only a couple of guilds into one alliance.

So I say yes to server pride!

Better focus on how we can play the game and let us decide with whom. If you make the game work there won’t be a reason to care about too low population.
You have to work on the causes, not the consequences.

That does actually sound fairly stupid.. Especially since its the only jumping puzzle you actually have to completely run through every time you wanna do it instead of logging off in front of the chest.

There is no reason for you to feel bad about it since it’s sometimes just really hard to tell.
With a bit of a well trained eye you should be able to see the duel-potential from your mates playstyle. (e.g. is he very passive, is he obviously using zerg build etc.)

If you just stand very close and it’s not a duel your mate will most probably run towards you to pull the enemy there – something he wouldn’t do in a duel. (And the bad guy will also most likely attack you)

And in the end – if he goes downstate and the enemy tries to stomp cc him or whatever and save your mate. If it’s a duel he will probably retreat without stomping. If not-kill him (which should be fairly easy at that point)

As I said in previous threads: since there is no reason to care about ppt I think saturday is a good temporary change. While k-training people run all over the map, getting used to it’s structure, maybe have some fights and once the “massive overhaul” arrives and ppt matters one day they can change it back and maybe some of those k-trainers will remember having fun on the borders and may join some serious fights in the future.

One of the biggest problems I see with guild upgrades is that even if they are all fine – you need to do all of this every time your guild disbands.
We know how often WvW guilds disband, reform, transform or whatever. It’s not even about the money. It’s about the time you need to, in theory, develop your full tactical potential again, and the fact that you are forced to do PvE.

I do like that guilds should play a bigger role in WvW but once again they violated the most important rule in a PvP gamemode: everyone should be equal.
And guild hall upgrade grinding is pretty much exactly the WvW equivalent of the item progression they always publicly despised.

It’s ok to have a long term goal, but it shouldn’t decide a fight wether you are a 20man guild that can barely raid twice a week or a 250man guild that farms silverwastes all day long and easily invest thousands of gold in the guildhall.

Why not go for the cosmetical stuff here aswell? Let us choose which race our guards should be (E.g Quaggan just to name the most obvious one), let us choose their armor/weapon skins, maybe let us design our own banners waving high on the keep, perhaps even different wall/gate textures (e.g. charr, norn, ogre, orrian, skritt, hylek style; whatever exists in this game) and fitting cannon/mortar skins to choose. So that in the end you can truly say “this is our keep”

Personally I still love raiding the borders with my Guild. It’s just not worth to buy hot for it unless you are also roaming.

There is no raiding on BL, you just like the karma train with no opposition. Let me guess, German server?

Sfr. And we are always looking for the fights. (There is not much of a k-train with 15-20 guys)
It’s fun mostly. You don’t really find people outside prime time anymore but I don’t really care if the borders are empty at 10pm or 11pm. Not much of a difference to pre hot from my experience.

There are definitely still people playing wvw. Maybe you should search for a casual raiding Guild because I rarely see pug commanders on the new borders.

But you can still easily play wvw without HoT and right now I wouldn’t recommend buying the game. Especially if you are very much wvw focused.

I’m pretty sure I read that there will be things required that will be awarded by winning matchups…though it wouldn’t be enaugh of a reason to go full ppt for me.
