So there was just a small detail about the new mastery that kind of bothers me.
It says “When the dwarves took on Primordus, they learned much about traveling through Tyria’s heated core. Learn this Mastery to travel long distances as the dwarves did.”

I feel like learning the mastery should have been a part of the story, because otherwise it really doesn’t make sense that we suddenly get the knowledge of the dwarves out of nowhere.

If I recall correctly from playing it is spawning at a constant rate of 3 minutes (so at 12,9,6,3) Same principle as the buffs on Temple of the silent storm and if you only claim it shortly before the next spawn that’s how it is.

I feel with you Leaa. I’ve been on sfr when WvW was in its “glory” times fighting Vizunah every week for over 1 year. I’ve still got my fun little memory from these days.
Last week we’ve had Vizunah and BB playing against Kodash…this week we got fsp and BB >.<

During one test everyone was down to 60ish per map. Those halcyon days of no lag. Sigh.

In all seriousness, this question has been asked countless times and Anet is very tight lipped about it.

Best guesstimate puts it at 80 per map max. But they may have upped it a bit with the linkings. Take a screen grab and count em up

Something like that. In the old days it used to be 100 per border and 150 on ebg afaik, which was then turned down quite a lot due to server issues and slowly upped over time again.
Looking at how many people there are around when you have a full 50 man squad running around I’d guess it’s about 70-75 on the borders.

I personally think the problem right now is that people simply got used to the attitude that if they can’t take something within one or two attempts they will never go there again, so Anet gave defenders a kitten ton of ways to defend their offensive siege rendering defensive siege almost entirely useless.
In my eyes this is a completely wrong approach. The fight over ressources and supplies should be a major part of the siege warfare and yes, defenders must have a natural advantage in my opinion but right now we are very far away from that.
The only way to really defend something is to already have like 5ac’s or 3 trebs firing the enemy position before anything goes down. If you can’t prevent the initial siege placement you are doomed and this isn’t fun for neither defenders nor attackers.

The best example I can give right now would probably be stonemist caste, because that’s ususally the only place where all factions will put constant pressure on, which often yields very epic fights of zergs first shooting the outer ring open, then being pushed out maybe 10 times until the defenders simply can’t keep the inner doors closed. But at this point you can still fight the lord room for hours if you are really into it. That’s how all battles should look like imo because it makes you feel that you’ve achieved something.

Right now you are basically in the situation you’ve had back in the days where mesmer portals weren’t restricted and you couldn’t do anything about 30 omegas knocking your door.
Also I feel that increasing the max supply capacity to 25 (while helping smaller groups) almost entirely destroyed the purpose of ressource management and supply control for the offensive side. It’s just insane seeing your 50 man squad with easily over 1000 supplies. That means you can build 6 superior flame rams and 3 superior shield generators on both gates of a keep and still have a few hundred supplies left. (Or instantly build like 7 omega golems)

The most op option right now is to simply go rams with 3 shield generators behind it. Constant coverage against ac damage, countertrebs, catapults, mortars, everything.

What class you play doesn’t really matter that much as long as you are tanky enaugh, tho I’d recommend guardian the most.

The advantages of playing guardian are 1) you’ve got your own stability and don’t have to rely on your group members, 2) you can always call empowers with the right timing and know how long to wait for it because you are casting it yourself, 3) you’ve got the leaps to go forward (even though other classes have that as well). 4) because of your natural low health pool you’ve got a better idea of what your zerg can withstand than say a warrior on full 37k hp with all immunities.

Concerning your stats you should just go full bunker, pvt because you wanna be absolutely sure that you are alive at all times to keep leading.

Personally I think I’ve never seen a Rev commanding.

I like the new system, because my server is basically non existent at night but still pretty strong in the afternoon/prime times. In our current skirmish the points right now are 5074/745/869 that is a massive difference, yet I know that even if we outpoint the server by only 100 points every skirmish tomorrow during the day we can keep up, and that is really motivating for many players.

If they are running away from every fight, they aren’t defending their ppt.

Then it comes down to who karma trains fastest to win. Since t0 gives the same points as t3 you can just cap faster than the enemy to win and just not defend at all.

Hit it where it hurts them (hint hint: t3 keeps) and they will come to give you all the sweet bags and ppk you want.

Also I agree: servers have been running away before as well and since one or two boxes of greens are still everything you get from winning people who run away to avoid ppk would be just plain stupid. Also you can’t really seperate it that harsh…if a server is confident to beat you in a battle they will fight you before and after the update. If they are plain bad and get stomped every time you meet them they’ve been running before and will keep running after the update.

The system won’t entirely prevent nightcap but it’s a good beginning.
I’ve experienced it myself for over a year in EU t1. You have one server that is basically incapable of playing this game at all, always at the bottom in prime and only wins because they have like 6 hours with 600+ score. Now all they’d get for it would be 9 points which is very easily recoverable over the rest of the day.

The obvious reason is that a visible MMR would create elitism where everything below a certain rank would be excluded and this would go against anything they want to accomplish.

I just don’t understand people complaining about traps. Nothing about traps changed from last season. People just forgot the basic tricks like dodging or invulning them.

Did you stop to consider what changed?

Season 3: DH steps on to point. He finds super god sustain Ele (plus friends). DH drops his DPS. Ele negates all damage via healing etc. DH is ineffective. DH runs out of tricks. DH dies. Point goes to Ele (plus team).

Season 4: Super god sustain Ele no longer present. DH steps onto point. DH drops his DPS. Everything including eles dies or is forced to run away. DH caps point. DH holds point either by mitigating range, or sustaining melee while dropping heavy on point AoE DPS.

To see this all you had to do was log in to any PvP match during S3, and S4.

Also let’s not forget the extreme ranged hate of S3. S4 you can run ranged weapons again.

So instead of working to get a natural counter let’s just scream for nerfs everywhere…that’s how a good pvp balance works. facepalm

I mostly agree only that when balancing purification you shouldn’t look at shelter but at Signet of Resolve which is almost as powerful.
With 1050 Healing power Purification (when activated) heals you for a little over 9.9k on a 30sec cd (24 with trait) while Signet of Resolve gives you ~9.45k on a 35sec cd. (28 with trait) That’s not a huge difference and it also shows that Purification is really not that far away from alternatives.
Shelter only gives you a mere 5.3k (to be fair you have a block but what class doesn’t actually have unblockable skills, even cc’s, these days?)

They most likely still have the broken build saved and only reloaded the old, working one so they could go into the broken build and see if this actually happened to you.

It also only happens in the gemstore. When talking to a trading post NPC opening the trading post directly it doesn’t happen. Switching to English does work indeed.

I’ve been testing this build for a few days and still experimenting a bit. I personally went for a more defensive setup trying to very much commit to supporting or holding points.
I’d definitely recommend you to play mace/shield; sword/focus. I really couldn’t handle the metabattle setup for longer than 2 fights. This way you have a very solid defensive weapon set (which I basically stay on all the time in bigger fights) with a lot of heal and support capabilities but in a 1v1 you can suddenly surprise your enemy by changing to your offensive weapon set. I’ve even gone as far as to put both sigil of water and sigil of blood on my defense set right now which on average give you about another 100hp/s each and fire/air on my offensive set for the surprise burst.
But the build is still quite weak against cc chains and heavy condition pressure which I’m still trying to find a solution for. Right now I simply went to using Melandru rune because it decreases both cc and condition duration (and adds even a little bit more toughness). You move like a turtle but if you commit to a point it should be fine.
I tried swapping out test of faith for something like signet of judgement since I wanted to be tanky anyways but it heavily decreased my survivability. I guess the additional protection and small daze here and there does indeed make a huge difference.
I am currently trying to figure out if I could fit “Stand your Ground” in there for some more stability.

I guess one of the easiest ways to nerf this build a little without completely destroying it’s diversity again would be to reduce the heal on Wings of Resolve which I found to be way too high since the beginning. With full mace stacks it heals for almost 6k on a 30sec cd. They should especially focus on the base heal. Wings of Resolve has a 3.9k base heal plus 1.2xhealing power while the old virtue has a base heal of only 1600 plus 0.75xhealing power on a 50% higher cooldown. That’s an insanely unfair difference even when talking about other DH builds. And putting on my tinfoil hat I'd say it's one of the obvious examples where you can see that Anet wants to force you into the elite specs by making them hilariously supreme to the old specs. Just like daredevils declass any good ol' s/d thief but that's another story...
Also decreasing protection duration of the trap could work since this is not specifically supposed to be very defensive. Right now protector’s strike, shield of judgement and Test of faith have about a 25% protection uptime each so you really get a lot out of them combined. Reducing it to something like 4 seconds on ToF could do a little bit (and also take some protection off zerker trap dh builds where it’s really not supposed to be if you ask me.)

It’s not completely broken since it still does have a few natural counters. It just needs to be tweaked a little bit. Holding a point 1v1 sounds absolutely fair. But holding it 1v2 for almost an indefinite amount of time and even 1v3 for a very long time (depending on how much of the above mentioned counters are present) is ridiculous.
And I don’t even actively focus on the damage aspect of the build which other people may prefer. You still have a solid 30% crit chance which even goes up to 50% adding the meditations’ fury.
But I still think that it’s a very solid build overall and as a main guard player who always loved to play a supportive style but was never really satisfied with using mace I really like having randomly stumbled over this build. (I was like: “healing power? mace? sybmols? That’s supposed to be meta? This sounds too ridiculous to be true, let’s give it a try”)

Thieves have become a real pain in the kitten in the last time. To be specific: Daredevils are. The amount of dodge chains is simply incredible. In a fight it’s basically like this from the DD side: get your combo ready→burst→dodge/port away→kite with 200 evades until combo is ready again→repeat. Alternatively use some stealth and if very critical port away like 5000 units so you are instantly (yes, instantly out of fight)
I’ve met a lot of daredevils in the past days (right now it feels like every second guy you meet roaming around is Daredevil) and it’s really ridiculous.

One thing I recognised especially is that Anet should take away the immobilize removal on dodge since this is basically your goto counter against a class that needs movement to stay alive.
Also the sheer amount of evades is really incredible. When I played with friends it basically went like this: trying to hit the thief with 3-4 guys while he is evading everything, not beeing affected by immobilize and after like 30 seconds of CONSTANT evading they either port away so that you will never see them again or make a crucial mistake that actually costs their life. The only other class capable of that is Berserkers but don’t even get me started on those….

Daredevils: there is absolutely not a single imaginable justification to have immobilize removed on dodge (not to mention the perma evades themselves) since immoblize itself is the natural counter to a class that is constantly moving. And the ability to basically instantly teleport yourself out of combat range making it entirely impossible to catch them.

Warriors: passive immunities combined with a ridiculously overpowered passive health regeneration, passive condition removal, motherkittening +1000 toughness after breaking stun (which you have tons of) combined with the toughness of having heavy armor and the base health of warriors while dealing a kitten ton of damage with berserk gear AND the ability to simply run away from almost anything in case this hasn’t been enaugh yet.

What I “like” playing against? I don’t care as long as it takes skill to master. A well played engineer or berserker mesmer requires a lot of skill so I don’t mind being crushed by them.
If necros had some stability it would actually be viable again but they are just so weak right now.

You got an inside Anet source on that? Because Anets history of sensible siege damage… well, it doesnt exist. And they still havent done any changes to ACs.

If you want to get into the magical fantasy land of delusional things that will never be, the only way I can see deployable cannons working is if they work as actual cannons. Solid projectile that can damage walls but wont do crap in terms of AoE damage. It would however be a real projectile so it could plow through and damage a zerg silly enough to stack in a line. Fire control would be an aimed line downrange, not AoE on point. 1/3 control direction (ie like a cata but with shallower arc and faster projectile with tiny ball size AoE on impact)

Will we see that?

No.

We will more than likely see kittening OP cannons with wide and stupid AoE explosions.

Prove me wrong Anet.

What I simply mean by that is that I have very very very high doubts that they deal that much damage, which I’ve already read as speculation here. Stationary cannons deal a kitten ton of damage against siege for example. If you only had one of the new ones right behind the gate you could forget placing any rams whatsoever there. That’s certainly not gonna happen. They simply can’t be that stupid. (right? I mean…really?….meep?)

I doubt that the same devs are working on this.
Lag has to do with server architecture and server/client communication,and only very few devs who have been there since the beginning get along in this mess. (Which is why it takes an eternity to make changes in that regard.)

I don’t really see a problem with this item. I think it should have been there since a very long time.
Also it’s fairly easy to balance with the amount of supplies it uses. If it uses the exact same amount it would basically be the same as building new siege….but different.
You could also make it use a little more sups so that you should think about wether or not you really need to repair your siege and because you are effectively saving a blueprint.

I think it’s especially useful for golems since they become pretty much useless if they lose like 75% health when taking a keep so they often just stand around in spawn. On the other hand I think this shouldn’t be used on rams since it means that you can just stand in front of the door and keep repairing your rams under ac fire. But the other siege weapons should be fine. Or maybe you could do it outfight only?
And it also should be a limited amount of repairs (you know at some point it’s just broken).

You guys seem to miss the point of this thread.
It’s not about crying that someone lost a duel. Like said above: it’s a sort of etiquette.

Now this doesn’t mean that you can expect everyone to follow it but I think it’s important to remind people of things like that every now and then,because it leads to a much more friendly environment and a kind of sub community in a gamemode that is often very stale and being “rip’ed” by people at least a thousand times.

WvW is a competitive game mode. And that is where people seem to have different opinions.
Some people think that because it’s competitive you can get through with the most kitteny behaviour just because it gives you victory.

For me a competitive environment means that people go there to be challenged. And being challenged involves trying to get as many fair encounters as possible,to fight for victory and if necessary… To learn from your mistakes.
Where is the point to go 3v1 or 60v20? You’ve come here to get a challenge, to test your skills and to improve. Not to hide like a crybaby and only fight when there is no way for you to lose anyways.

And if you live by these principles you are also respecting players who have come to this place for fights and to improve their skill and Not to enjoy the landscape for 10min because they are busy running back to you.

It’s not like the score matters at all after all this time without the patches. Also you basically explained yourself that we don’t know what impact DBL has on the matchup because we don’t know how players handle it.

Players will go where they personally have more fun. The more variety the more tastes are satisfied, the more players join WvW. -> Good WvW.
And who knows…maybe we will even have a 3rd border to choose from in a far future.

I’m starting to think Anet should probably just go back into silent mode, since we can’t even appreciate the effort they’re making in trying to communication with us lately, we begged and pleaded for years to be heard and now people just want to nitpick and break down everything they present to us.

These polls aren’t viable!, we have more pve players voting on stuff they don’t care about! sacrilegious!, we don’t have the hardcore players who quit two years ago voting! outrageous!, a rank 10 that gained a level this week gets to vote? wickedness!, well you worded it wrong it should be the other way so we get the majority of votes!, that guy has 20 accounts he spammed the votes the wrong way! lawlessness!,

Wait I thought this was a majority poll?, wait this wasn’t a majority poll? hold on I need my glasses, you didn’t explain this poll enough!, you explained the answers too much so people got confused!, you put too many yes answers so people got confused and didn’t vote no!, you need a year and 1000 ranks of experience to vote! the more ranks you get the more bonus votes you get veteran of the mist eotm’er!, they should hire a real professional survey company cause everything is random!

They have enough information on what to work on for the next year anyways.

So basically you are saying because we poor souls who played since beta haven’t been heard for 4 years it is unfair to listen to anyone with less than 4 years of experience?

I think the rank requirement simply makes no sense because you have no steady income of WXP and therefore can’t make a connection between WXP and true experience. (Not to mention eotm)

I myself got about 4000hours in GW2 of which at least 3000 have been in WvW. I’ve been in small WvW guilds, bigger WvW guilds and played in plenty of pug zergs and you know what rank I am? I am only at 630. That’s the beginning of silver ranks.

Getting WXP is a pain if you are not actually farming for it (like ktraining all day long) and has nothing to do with your actual WvW experience or understanding of the gamemode.
And what about scouts who are sitting in keeps for hours straight without any reward? Or the lowest servers where you maybe have 10 guys on every map…how are they supposed to get 1000 ranks in your opinion?

It simply doesn’t make sense. If you wanted to keep out the very fresh noobs I’d say rank 50-100 could be considered a limit. But even reaching this could easily take you over 100 hours of playtime at which point people can definitely tell what they want from this gamemode if you ask me.

I also voted on keeping DBL. Not because I like it the way it is, but because I think that with the way the devs are communitcating right now there can be a lot of feedback built in by the community, eventuall making it a good map.

And that’s far better than simply throwing months of hard work and dedication to the trash bin, even if we’ll have to endure playing on this worse map for a few months. You can’t see everything black and white. It is a risk to take, I know, but in the long term it could pay out in terms of WvW diversity (especially when looking at a potential 3rd border in a far future)

You already have the option to use standart player models in competitive gamemodes so any discussion about cosmetics is obsolete for me.

And removing a stupid badge has surely been the smaller hindrance…

Seriously is your e-p… all you care about?

It’s a stupid badge. Nobody cares what rank you are. If you think you are better, show me in a fight and not by pointing at your shiny badge.
I don’t care if people see my WvW rank everywhere because I don’t give a kitten about what you think. It’s my achievement and I am proud of it. Not you.

WvW nameplates have been cluttered enaugh since 4 years already, so stop crying.

And btw…anyone can rankup in PvP if you just grind it long enaugh because eventually the system will MAKE you rank up. No matter your true skill.

A shiny pvp badge only shows that you can run around between circles while avoiding any fair fight that may slow you down or even potentially lose.

That much for the skill to show off. It is a tactical component, that’s for sure. But it has barely anything to do with your individual skill.
Real wvw veterans in the opposite appreciate a fair fight since there is no skill in winning unequal battles.

I think the 2 months seem like a good compromise looking at the poll’s results.
Also it’s quite funny to see people without even a basic understanding of statistics bashing around because their opinion isn’t in the majority.

Your necros are obviously doing something wrong since I can’t differ between the amount of loot I get with my necro or my staff 1 spamming zerg guard which is literally the ultimate tagging machine.

There needs to be another solution to “nightcapping” which doesn’t make a big player base feel undermined. I agree with several posters here that what Tyler suggested isn’t really solving the issue but rather creating another problem of server stacking. Let’s try to think constructively how to resolve this and propose solutions

If the player Base was big enough there wouldn’t be a need to equalise their impact.
