Maybe they could add a tactivator for it that you have to activate like every 15 minutes. That sould be long enaugh so that one scout running around the map can refresh siege and quickly hit the baloon but if nobody is there it won’t be active.
All we wanted was a GvG.
They arent closely balanced because anet has been linking servers to create stable tiers instead of trying to make every pairing competitive with each other.
1 up 1 down would work fine if they shoot for equal populations across the board and relink on a monthly basis.
If I recall correctly a dev actually also called that out as an option once the system is in place. But right now anything less than 2 months is impossible because of the time it takes for glicko to adjust.
All we wanted was a GvG.
Who would resign at all if you won’t get any reward? In that case it wouldn’t matter at all.
Oh no I don’t want to lose my few silvers reward. I rather want to sit 6 minutes afk in spawn and use the time to write another QQ post in the forum than getting in the next que and having fun in my next match.

UI improvements are heavily needed.
Skirmish rewards should pretty nice as well. This means that no matter how bad our match ups are we can at least work to a reward for our short term efforts.
1 up 1 down would at best prevent glicko adjustments likeYB which isn’t that imbalanced on EU so I don’t really need that. Also I basically gave up caring about the server I fight. Almost all of them are equally bad compared to the old days.

Oh no! A toxic competitive game? Call CNN, this is some big news!

You don’t win a battle by fighting fairly. Every general will tell you this. I like a good fight like every other commander. But I like to know I have a certain advantage. Good commanders put themselves in an advantageous position to try and obtain victory. What better way than to prevent the sudden arrival of 40+ defenders. Nothing better than the keep flipping just as the enemy blob runs through or up to the gate because they couldn’t port in via the EWP.
OP, WvW is about tactics, tactics, tactics.
And an even better com knows that true victory comes from outclassing and out skilling your enemy in combat, not by doing anything possible to avoid said fight. (Assuming you are equal numbers ofc) Let them come and enjoy the additional loot.
In wvw there is a difference between getting a “fair” advantage that any side can get like good positioning, movement etc and “unfair” advantages like using 20ac’s in addition or avoiding the enemy in the first place. The latter is what you shouldn’t use.

I didn’t mean creating the lobby itself but you have to realise that they’d have to make it a separate gamemode like pvp on order to allow separate settings and so far we don’t know how easily they can implement this complex framework once more.
The thing with DBL test was that you could directly buy the stats from merchants because your stuff was going to be deleted anyways so that wouldn’t work. My question there still stands: we don’t know if individual rune and accessory changes are even still possible or how difficult it would be to re-enable that.
Would you have any idea how to restrict access to the arenas? As I said the simple talk to an npc method may work for small parties of 2-4 but for entire gvg’s you’d also need some kind of restriction to prevent trolling (or just ignore it whatever is easier)
Once again the most important thing to remember is: nothing is ever “easy” in this game. I’ll give you two of the most hilarious and also quite recent examples.
1) Remember that bug a while ago where after an update suddenly soulbound things from your character had become soulbound to a different character?
2) my favourite one: the compact button. A few loved it, many hated it. A while ago one of the devs also accidentally clicked it when wanting to store their stuff and realised how annoying that is so they took a closer look at it. You probably know what they told us afterwards… All they could do was to move it to the bottom because removing this button (Which is supposed to be a simple UI element!) did cause irreparable damage to the inventory and item system… A single button. Now imagine everything that could break when implementing a new wvw lobby. It’s definitely the exact opposite of “easy”
All we wanted was a GvG.
Yesterday I’ve also seen quite a lot in Diessa plateau. It was like 6 bots, all with the same name and I to VI at the end. Some of them mindlessly running into walls and none of them reacting to a pm. (since having multiple accounts isn’t illegal I thought I might at least ask)
All we wanted was a GvG.
Not sure how well their current technology would allow it but it would certainly be very interesting.
Probably the biggest problem for them would be to implement the lobby as another completely separate gamemode if they wanted build testing. Also we don’t know if you could still easily change single runes/sigils individually like we used to. Remember: nothing in the code of gw2 is ever “easy”
The arena could be an interesting concept. I’m not sure how they could technically implement the restriction to join them however. It would easily be possible for small groups, but entire guilds? You could perhaps make it so it dynamically creates an instance like the custom pvp arenas and have a browser and password for it but they’d probably have to make it payed as well or pvp guys will QQ like hell. However we still don’t know if they could even implement it like that and if they actually wanted it since it can potentially ruin their precious (and dead since hot at least) pvp espoarts.
Also would it be possible to freely access buff food there? It has a fundamental importance for many builds and I don’t know if they could actually implement that.

This would probably mean you’d have a focus party of 2-3 thiefs that just need to smash your eles and necros piece by piece into downstate twice and your entire backline is gone with no chance of picking them back up.
Pick/Gank teams are already a thing, and many groups use them.
Of course but in the current system you can just pick your friends back up and the focus party will rarely be able to actually finish them off.
In your system however they’d be straightout dead after beeing down 2 times.
Taking downstate away from WvW would probably mean that the only viable classes are going to be the ones with a very high damage mitigation uptime like warriors with defy pain and zerker backlines will be non existent.

I think what would make this game great again was if they implemented custom PvP servers where you can change the rules, skills etc. so the highly complicated and complex skill balance could be overtaken by ambitous players without anet having to care about it.

the mesmer and revenant nerfs were both focused around wvw and completely destroyed rev’s rule in raiding but gave mesmers a extra one in return. that nerf was uncalled for in raids yet happened thanks to wvw.
Oh guess what sherlock they also didn’t ask for lich Minions to be nerfed even though they were clearly broken. Why would these dps fetishists ask for anything that ruins their precious damage anyways? Not gonna happen so that is far from being a valid argument.
To be fair the stability change was probably for wvw only and any other gamemode could have lives quite well with the old version but the general neglect of wvw is still very obvious and has driven me further and further away from it.

We need to give the siege identities and then cannons should fit in just fine (also a cost adjustment). Boost arrow carts ability to do area denial/control (slightly more damage, more soft cc BUT OVER TIME ONLY, maybe over 10-12 hits, more cripple, maybe some weakness). Boost ballista damage to people caught in their direct fire, i mean you have to line people up with the dang things, these should be your primary anti-personnel weaponry at range for cost efficiency. Cannons would be generalized with burst damage in a large radius, but expensive. Also buff gravel shot on catapults to be an anti-personnel option (it arcs, so it is good for defensive spots), cause seriously: 3 tiny rocks that shoot over a HUGE random spread is really terrible. Like why!? Give it like 10 rocks, rain on the enemies parade, or make them tumble like shield gen 1. SOMETHING. Plus, if someone tries to use a catapult like that, you can rush em in between shots, unlike arrow carts, so it isnt really a balance issue.
I agree that cannons could be a nice addition if siege weapons had specific identities.
Giving ac’s a bit more cc while taking away some damage could make them a great tactical weapon. Like slowing enemies down in order to keep them in the cannon damage. Or perhaps a chance to hit the enemies eye, blinding them as well as perhaps a very very small chance for a 1sec immobilise.
Then cannons are the big hitters doing some damage but are also more vulnerable to getting killed because they have to be placed on the edge of something.

This mindset is why skill balance in this game is so bad right now. Anet caters to people like you who don’t want it to be “hard” to learn small differences between game modes. Look where that has gotten us every balance patch….
Anet has almost never splitted skills in the history of GW2, and I’m heavily in favor of skill splitting, so how exactly did my mindset affect in any way the game’s balance?
But I’m just too “lazy” to appreciate the fine beauty of clumsy changes, apparently.
They didn’t split stuff because the simply could not. They just didn’t build the system like that in the first place.
For the wide range of things to be splittable, like skills, traits, runes, sigils a dev had to sacrifice his free time in order to build the system required for it because it was not a priority for them.
That shows you how much thought anet payed to skill balance when they designed the game.

“Hey guys let’s vote for a feature, then just tell people how stupid the idea is”.
Something tells me the people on these forums would vote for a certain presidential candidate for the same effect.
The issue with the voting is that anyone can vote. People never playing wvw votes, people joining maybe half an hour a week vote, bu none of those are here to see the impact of it. They are not the players that logs in every day and stay for hours. Those players mostly have a very different opinion, but we can not do anything about the open voting system, were anyone and their gold fish have a say. This is the issue. I said it before. If thee was a vote for PvE raids, would it be ok if people never raiding could vote and settle what players raiding every week need for raids?
Oh my god stop blaming it on all the casual players already. I voted for them. Okay? And do you know why I voted for them? Because I wanted to see if they can be a nice addition to the game and because I thought that Anet would have at least tested the most basic features like decay timer and siege cap.
As we can see that was already too much, but only because Anet is incapable of delivering something only the slightest related to peoples expectations doesn’t mean that nobody liked the basic idea.
Do you want to blame me for a broken WvW because I liked the idea of getting some more variety into my favourite gamemode or could you also imagine blaming the developer that actually kittened this up?

With all respect, but we voted for a weakened deployable cannon siege and not for a device without siege cap that can basically shoot out nukes on a horrendous range for a very moderate supply cost.

It’s the only thing that could rescue this game. It is simply impossible to balance classes amongst 3 gamemodes, raids, 5v5 conquest (+stronghold should you take it serious), roaming and 70v70 zerg play without seperation.

I have quite an equal share between Mesmer, Thief, Necro, Ranger and Guard…guess which class is the only one I’m still playing these days.
Necro and Thief became almost entirely obsolete because you are either dead all the time or other classes do a better job.
Mesmer also became pretty weak, barely has an impact in soloq and I personally hate playing it on condition.
For Ranger…yes it is still viable but I hate fighting druids so much that I simply flat out refuse to play this bs.
So I’m left with playing guard. I personally like the gameplay a lot and even though the class is easy to learn you can still get a lot out of it and have quite a few options in terms of traits, skills and weapons (basically anything besides torch and staff can be used depending on your preferences) to vary from the common meta build without being utterly useless which is quite unique amongst most classes these days.

While thinking about it: The issue is a bit more complex: You get a massive amount of loot on the HoT maps – I was seriously annoyed when getting my mastery ranks “Oh no, not a full inventory again!” BUT on the other hand: The mats requirements for the new legendaries are insane. Maybe work from the top down. Make the new legendaries a bit less expensive, give out a bit less loot on the HoT maps.
I can remember Halloween 3 years ago. Anet tried to restrict the amount of loot and gold we gain, so all you got in the labyrinth were some spikes – it was deserted after 2 days max (that was before megaservers though, but I don’t think even a megaserver could’ve saved that situation). Not that much fun.
We did play wvw although we had to pay for the upgrades (most didn’t give a kitten, granted), although we didn’t have reward tracks. It was “enough” even then, although a bit unfair in comparison to the other modes. It’s plenty now and we don’t need more, really.
And don’t forget repair costs

I would very much prefer a bunker meta over a full damage meta. This composition may not be the most skill intensive for the individual player but makes other things like good movement much more important. (Which also requires a more skilled com)

I know a person who got diamond by only playing DH, they have no idea how to rotate, or even check the map to see what’s happening. DH is anything but balanced.
No class should have range with huge cc’s & damage, 1 shot bursts with ultra low cool downs, & tons of survivability, oh and the ability to hold the whole point and pull people on top of it.
Any class could do that because the system rewards you for playing more, not better. That isn’t an argument against dh (even tho yes, it is very easy to play)
All we wanted was a GvG.
Warrior is a far above average class. Just because it isn’t used in ESL, maybe because it isn’t godlike, maybe because it simply doesn’t match their team composition and tactics as good does by far not mean that he is dead or needs any kind of buff.
Warrior is a very solid class whose whole package is clearly by far the strongest amongst all classes in any gamemode and giving him any further buffs would boost him from far above average to godmode. Or do you want a meta with 4 warriors 24/7 spamming immunities on every team?
The thing about warrior is that he is simply too good of an all-rounder. And on the top level with all specialised and perfected roles there is no place for an all-rounder. (besides old Cele Ele…) Sure scrapper may be more tanky but he is clearly weaker in terms of damage. This can easily be combined with other classes in ESL because they know exactly what they are doing but neither does it mean warrior needs a sustain buff nor does it mean scrapper needs a damage buff for them to be on par because it would completely kitten up lower rank play. Also why do you keep talking about guards? Besides the fact that they aren’t even used in your glorious ESL if you are telling me a guard on zerker has the same sustain as a warrior on zerker I really can’t take you serious anymore.
All we wanted was a GvG.

All we wanted was a GvG.
They usually say that a wvw tournament gives a spike in player activity which then drops down by a lot because players are burned out. This is something they don’t want.
Also they’d at least work of the list of planned wvw features like scoring changes and all the qol features before they’d work on a tournament but I doubt they’d do it.
Also a longer tournament would interfere with the current cycle of linkings and encourage bandwagoning even more which really is the last thing this game needs right now.
Now that I’m thinking about it… What would a tournament even show? With linkings there is no more way to show who the best server is so it would be really unfair to give out rewards just because you had the better linking not the better server. I think they should instead focus on rewarding every players contribution like they did with reward tracks.

What he tries to say is the DBL guards just look at enemies coming to close thinking "wut’. Where as ABL guards will 1 shot them.
No they won’t. They changed it so that you get teleported away should you go over a certain threshold so the guards don’t kill you anymore.

The basic problem of necro is that the additional deathshroud is supposed to compensate their lack of other survivability. Unfortunatly this is a completely wrong approach because a) nec’s get focused to death before they can even build up that survivability, b) additional hp don’t matter that much in a game that has an insane power creep with so many builds running almost full zerker because they get survivability from their class while necros don’t and c) the additional hp don’t stop the enemy from hitting you. They can put everything they want on you. Sure you’ve got another 20k hp but how does it help you if you can’t move and are getting cc’d all the time? It’s just giving you another 4-6 seconds before the inevitable happens. What necro needs is an escape mechanic not necessarily survivability.
What I’d maybe suggest is changing the ds skills to F-skills, make them use up your gathered life force, let the necro consume his life force to get a heal (because besides kitten survivability necro also has some of the worst healing skills) and give him some more escape mechanics instead (or go even further and change the ds skills to give some more of that)

To be honest I’ve never really seen them being used. (And really didn’t know we had then since the beginning of August already o.O)
I’ve never seen a commander really asking to use them even though I WvW quite regularly. I guess I’m gonna try to see if I can do something with them the next days but since I didn’t really read any complaints about them being op or abused, even if they won’t be used a lot it seems like a nice tool to have just in case and I can’t really imagine anything speaking against them.

I’m just gonna try to answer your general “what is WvW like these days” question.
Having been on sfr for a very long time as well I recently transfered to Kodash to play with some rl friends again.
Basically what I would say is…the game can be very fun during prime. Outside of that it’s getting rather difficult (but not entirely impossible). Nightcapping is still very dominant and you’ll very easily get outnumbered in off-prime time. (And forget about roaming. There is no honor left in this gamemode and people are just ganking wherever they can)
Since I’m guessing you’ve still got the old sfr mentality that all you want is a good fight I’d say there are still possibilities, but nothing really changed over the years besides a decrease in WvW guilds maybe. If you’ve got an organised zerg with a great commander that is known across the community with everyone on teamspeak you are gonna have a great time. If you are lucky you’ll actually meet enemies that will be willing to fight you and give you some nice battles, but often times they are just starting to run/port away from you after losing a couple of fights and only start hidind behind siege.
French servers didn’t change a lot. You may very rarely find a good fight but overall it’s just a like the old Vizunah with less siege and maybe less care about hardcore ppt. (These days they may not defend their spawn camp for 2 hours and there may be only 49 instead of 50 ac’s inside a keep, but they definitely still have the instant-ac-build-mastery that I still need to figure out how to get my hands on) Besides that from the limited experience I’ve gained in the past few weeks Baruch Bay is really quite similar to that, Fsp gave some really good fights but is also blobbing like hell due to being linked with 2 more servers so you can really only fight them during prime (But still kudos for their spirit). If I recall correctly Deso also gave a good fight every now and then but that’s about all the experience I’ve gained so far.
So there are still a few servers that prefer to go for fights and there are still many servers that are afraid to lose a battle so they need 10 ac’s or twice your numbers.
Fighting didn’t really change a lot from the old days since pirateship is gone. (For reference I’m actively playing Guard, War and Nec right now) Meele is quite strong again but when changing your backliner from zerker to maraudeur you can also survive pretty well. Overall it depends a lot on the commanders playstyle and his ability to adapt. A strong necro bomb can bring you a long way but I’ve also had commanders that push straight through chokes back and forth, leaping away from their backline like they’ve got 40/50 meeles while like 40% of the squad consisted of necros. So overall I feel like fights aren’t particularily unbalanced in a way that paintrain is completely op or pirateship is the only way to go. But meele train is a lot easier to execute due to the tanky nature. Also that hardcore mentality kind of toned down and people are just looking to find fun in a couple fights so they aren’t playing diehard serious.
So basically if your playtime is focused a lot around prime time (and a bit wider during weekend) you’ll still find some nice fights and it may be worth a transfer (But as I said I don’t exactly know what server may be best suited for this). For what you will go up against…let’s say if you’ve lived through old Vizunah nothing will shock you these days.

@bigFM My server very much loves fighting. I agree it really sucks when stonemist has like 200 ac’s on every gate, but if both servers pressure it you’ll get in eventually and by god there is nothing better than 2-3 hour long smc lordroom fights.

Personally I’d like the points to be at least a little bigger than your standart aoe. It doesn’t have to be Legacy size but you still should be able to evade something like a full dh-trap stack.
Another thing is that I personally dislike the basic idea of “I’ll just put all my damage on that point. Go out and let me cap or die”. For me it should be about skill and actively fighting your enemy away from the point.
Using the principle of outnumbering your enemy to cap the point like it has been in GW1 would also bring a lot more potential imo, but I think it doesn’t really work with todays class balancing.
All we wanted was a GvG.
I actually like having sm upgraded every now and then, because when servers actively defend it you get the real epic fights. Otherwise ebg is just a 24/7 ktrain.
