So often people complain and beg for change. But they do not truly want it.

People are asking for changes, that incentivise the competitive aspect of the gamemode (You know? PvP and stuff…competitive…not PvDoor night shifts) while ANet does everything to ruin a competitive play, so your comment doesn’t really make sense.
Of course we complain when they do stupid things. What else shall we do?

Make it ealry Friday instead.
People will have 3 full days to enjoy the beginning of the matchup (which equals the highest motivation and therefore best fights) and you won’t have everyone joining reset in the evening, creating massive ques.

Hello All,

There are a couple of reasons for the change to reset time. One is for the overall quality of the game. The last few years we have been careful to not disrupt the WvW reset time but this has at times made it difficult for our team to address issues during reset day. This change will give our team an extra day of the week that they can use to respond to issues that may occur with WvW or any other area of the game if it is necessary. In the early days we wanted reset to be during a weekday to ensure we had people available to monitor the game at reset time, but at this point we have seen the ongoing stability of World vs. World and resetting on a weekday is no longer necessary.

Another reason is the emergent gameplay that has come from reset. It has become one of the most exciting times for WvW and we would really love for more players to have the opportunity to experience it. We have many more players logging in on Saturday than on Friday which means with this change many more people will be available to experience the rush of claiming objectives for their world during reset.

However, given the concerns posted here we will be moving the Saturday reset to earlier in the day to give most players the majority of the day to enjoy the start of the new match. Immediately after launch the new time will be 11am PDT / 2pm EDT (6 pm UTC) for NA and 11am BST / 12 pm CEST (10 am UTC) for EU. Keep in mind that the following week with the end of Daylight Savings Time / Summer Time the reset times will be pushed even earlier to 10am PST/ 1pm EST and 10am GMT / 11am CET.

Thank you for your feedback. We realize that no time we pick is going to work for everyone but this change is going to benefit even more players overall while at the same time giving us a little more breathing room to improve the quality of the game during the week.

I’ll put it this way, your post is contradict with WvW experience and I’ll explain why:

  • 1).STRAWPOLL FOR John’s homework John, for beginning, I’ve asked people on reddit and here on forum about it, it’s basically what YOU could have done the same. So i did it for you http://strawpoll.me/5736600/r here are the results.
  • 2). FACT OF WVW Yes you have more logs on Saturdays, but where? Not in WvW, but in all over Tyria(GW2 mega servers). We WvW guild leaders/co-leaders have our own years of statistics of WvW, and I can tell you we are facing 80% less WvW attendance then other days of the week. Just logging in for 5 min to get your WvW daily doesn’t count. Our statistics also shows that on saturdays we have 20-30 less experienced regular people on tag and we get more upscaled and rank under silver who cannot follow the tag and ever worse connect to TeamSpeak, this leaves us very quickly with 25-35 people on tag who fail to accomplish simple tasks, and those that are Regular WvW players don’t show up until afternoon-evening that’s also why for example Gandara or Desolution(before last month mass inflation) have this issue where commanders simply don’t tag up due to this issue.
  • 3) ALREADY EXISTING QUEUES From gaming experience, I would love to ask HOW, would you want to give people chance to experience WvW Reset, while T1-3 servers ALWAYS have at least 40+ queue just on EB reset day and borders face queue between 10-20 man, and if you miss the split second or you get a disconnect, you’ll face sitting in queue for minimum 60-120 minutes, and with Saturday resets, in your theory we will face over 100+ queue on servers. But that’s false assumption described why in point 1).
  • 4) DOES 1 DAY SHIFT COUNT?More time to fix things after Patch. I honestly don’t know who exactly are you trying to convince into that, because WvW experience says other ways, nothing was ever fixed on time, and +1 day won’t fix it either, why? I don’t blame you guys, I know it’s hard, but if WvW had issue, things were fixed in time frame between 1 week or 3 months. The only thing about WvW that I can shoutout is Quick fix of server drop out, sorry anet, that’s the only thing that was fixed from your side in matter of hours, and you can’t be ready on that, no one does, and we understand you. Extra day here won’t fix anything, and you guys that play WvW know that.
    Just remember the golem rush issue:
    - Event was over before you guys managed to fix golem buff abuse.
    - It took you 3 days to fix. “i see every one on them map, including enemy tags and players BUG”
    - After 3 years, we can still place catapults on UN-KILL-ABLE positions in klovan inside the wall.
    - It took you 1 week before you were able to remove bug where displaying Chinese-dragon-year event items in map chat would make you disconnect from the game if you preview/click on it.
    - It took you 3 years of rubber bending skills before minor changes were applied. And you guys took 3 months to measure data, and + 3 months to apply that results, which leaves us with 6 months of fixing an issue. After 6 months we don’t mind if you would take 1 extra day.
  • 5) SERVER ISSUES Owh I’ve forgot to mention, fixes to rubber-bending were not fully fixed. EB is still facing huge rubber-bends in prime times and not just resets on (we are currently on T3 server and yet we experience the same issues). Things are slightly better when it comes to SM fights, but i wouldn’t dare to call that a fix myself, it’s more likely a stitch.
  • 6) MUTUAL AGREEMENT: Hundreds of guilds are making weekly meetings with leaders to make sure every thing is covered, we organize more then in other game modes here in GW2, I’ll also say it, Friday gives fresh start to have amazing Saturday and Sunday. This shift will cut us for 16-24hours of enjoyment. RESET itself, became comparable with country anatheme, it’s more then jsut a song, it’s something that you are proud and kitteny about! Can you change country anatheme just like that? I bet you don’t, it would lose respect of your people, and sorry John, we feel offended, like it’s not enough that we suffered 3 years with unplayable game mode at peaks, now this? Well all i can say is, _I wish you would understand us at least once._
  • 7) PLOT TWIST Also, lets be honest for a moment, it’s all about release day 23th friday for you guys.
    You want every one to be in Jungle on that day but the funny plot twist is, true WvW players like me, will play WvW on that day. Temporary reset day shift with exception this week would be fine and acceptable, no one would care that much, but permanently shifting it still make no sense to those that are dedicated WvW players, and we know how WvW fixes and updates are.

Nothing is done in 1 extra day, sorry we have history of WvW behind us.

Shout out for devs that try hard to fix things, we know you guys are working on it as much as you can, we are just sad that changes are there, where we don’t need them.

It’s a nice defense mechanic and I really like it. This keep is supposed to be the ultimate fortress, a giant castle with huge defense mechanics, and not to change its owner more often than a prostitute her customers.

When I play PvP it happens so often that I cast a skill and suddenly I can’t move anymore until I dodge.

I haven’t found a clear pattern yet. It happens on my necro, on my guard, on my mesmer…basically on anything I play. It seems to happen after leap/port skills with no obvious pattern.

Please fix it. It is so annoying when you are in a fight and just can’t move for like 5 seconds until your endurance is reloaded, and even then you need to waste a dodge just to move again. It ruins the entire game.
And you also don’t move when activating another leap skill.

As an almost pure WvW player, (besides some PvP the last month or two) not doing any PvE gold farming, my account wealth compared to the playtime is lower than 98.5% of the other players, according to gw2 efficiency.

I guess that says all about money reward in WvW.

Whenever I play either WvW or PvP my average ping is between 300 and 500.
0 network usage, perfectly fine ping everywhere else.

I can’t play zerker like that.

If PvP is the highest growing part of the game then it deserves more attention, especially in the form of balance. Yet, nothing happens……

It’s only growing because after 3 years it’s the only gamemode left, that gives you at least a small tiny bit of variety.
You can’t tell anything realistical until the addon.

Yay Colin, I’m so excited.
Maybe we will even get balance patches every 4 months then?
It’s awesome to see that you put that much work into developing PvP. I’m sure it has a bright future. And just don’t give up your e-sports. This will work perfectly with the balance system! And how quickly you always manage to fix gamebreaking bugs, that’s incredible. You do so much better than the first game!
And don’t listen to the pessimists here. The growth in player numbers is definitely not a result from the fact that WvW has been the same boring stuff since 3 years, or that PvE didn’t get any more content since LW2 and is a simple matter of grinding everything you see. And it’s of course not because many players made a new account to be able to farm PvP newbies.
People simply love it for all the variety you brought into the gamemode in the last 3 years. Not to mention the awesome balancing that makes this game so much fun!

Interesting questions.
I guess the answer to most of them will be “yes” because people want all that new content and since we will never get new classes they have to satisfy the hunger for new content

But I think everything is possible in general. The only thing that may not be heavily enforced on other classes’ future specializations are the very very very basic unique mechanics of the professions.
Like necros and their ability to corrupt boons, guardians and their very strong active defense, mesmers and their manipulation of boons and conditions, rangers and their pets, thiefs and their extreme high mobility. These things.

I really hope we get Cantha one day.

And it wouldn’t be too hard storywise.
With every dragon killed we earn more and more trust of the Tengu, at some point we play together with them. Perhaps a dragon attacks and destroys their own little world and after the dragons are defeated they ask us to help them regaining their home. (And in a perfect world we will be able to play tengu then)

And we know that the order still got contacts in Cantha.

PS: Is there something known about the corruption shiro brought to Cantha? Perhaps you could extend the dragon-influence-cleansing to the point where you could clean Cantha?

So, I can’t go into much detail on things quite yet, but I just wanted to reassure you folks that we’re actively discussing a number of issues that are affecting balance in PvP – including, but not limited to elementalist sustain/damage. Per the usual, we’ll be talking to you folks about the changes once we’ve finalized them.

I really like what you are doing, but I’m simply not satisfied yet.

Whatever you were doing in the busy office (presumably hot?) MUST NOT and MUST NEVER have a higher priority than fixing major problems in your actual live game.
It’s not like we’re talking about a matter of weeks. Things have been broken since months.
That is completely unacceptable.

Nothing against you personally, but against the ones who make the priorities.

How do you think should gw2 ever have a chance of becoming a famous esport if it takes you months to do balance changes, and not even doing or saying anything after your major tournaments are obviously completely useless in terms of competitive play due to that unacceptable and broken op meta?

I hope you are able to focus on it now. And I hope you are doing it well. (and maybe before hot releases?…)

If you are only closely having the same problems fighting a thief than you have with a mesmer you are doing something wrong.

Thief isn’t a strong class in general, mastering this class takes a hell lot of skill and I admire everyone who has this talent.
But it is far from op for the amount of practice you need with this class. Mesmer is so much easier to play than thief but outplays them in many aspects.

The Holy Trinity is what you missed.

By the way: Arena net was not the first company who did not use it in their game. I do not know why some people believe Arena net "came out with this idea? Why not do research before supporting something just because?

Continue: The Holy Trinity have less chance to not balance compare with non-Holy Trinity< depend if the company center it around The Holy Trinity.

What does that mean?

Guild Wars 2 plan was to center non-Holy Trinity around Holy Trinity but something went wrong: the 2 original GW1 creators left. Yes that is correct

Why they left? ! they believed in the non-Holy Trinity centering around The Holy Trinity and had no choice but to leave because last creator no longer wanted to center it.

What does it mean non-Holy Trinity centering around Holy Trinity?

The Holy Trinity idea required hard-work, hard-effort, risk-reward, concequences for making mistakes, fun, skill-play, learning from mistakes and making sacrifice for the better. The Holy Trinity model is: tank. healer and damage dealer.

The original Non-Holy Trinity idea required the same hard-work, hard-effort, risk-reward etc…. as the Holy Trinity but instead would combine all three Holy Trinity in 1.

The question is if the amount of pre-made vs non pre-made games do have a big enough statistical impact to actually be a high priority problem.

I also hate fighting premades but I do not know how many percent of my games are actually done against premades. From my personal experience I’d guess a number around 5% (so ~every 20th gane) but don’t nail me down on that.
It is very annoying but tbh there are definitely more important problems in pvp than the match making if you ask me.

As I mentioned earlier, statistically it wold look fine, because the MMR system definitely compensates for it from game to game, but that just means you are constantly pinballing.

Its a simple argument you can add to matchmaking to not allow this to happen.

Another problem is that you don’t know how organized premades teams are. If you just make a fun group in your casual guild without any strategy you don’t want to be matched against some uber pro ESL teams.
For now I guess it’s best to wait for the leagues and hope that the devs at least focus on balance issues.
These changes would most probably not be finished until then anyways.

These threads keep cropping up, and the Leshinator keeps turning up to shoot them down. People need to learn that having a kittenload of losses in a row doesn’t mean that The System is conspiring against you. It’s just the way the game goes: combination of teammates’ performance, opponents’ performance, matchmaking, and how you yourself did.

And you need to learn that full premade vs no premade is a VERY BAD THING… No matter what justification you TRY to make for it, that one single fact alone, should be enough to warrant our concern, and its not the ONLY reason either.

No, NPC should not be buffed. It should be the team’s duty to keep them alive.

Normally I’d agree on that but those npc’s are just way too squishy.
With this amount of players all you need is 2 mesmers perma stealthing and shattering them down out of nowhere… Or make it 3 for literally infinite stealth.

I did a quick looky, and your record today is 7-4 with your worst loss being 150 points and your best loss being 360. It doesn’t seem to match up to the experience you describe. Before that you were on a massive win streak so perhaps your MMR is settling back down.

If I get time I can try and see how many matches were against premades.

Shatter mesmer has always been strong if you got the skill, not to mention mesmer pre confusion nerf.

GW2 tank/sustain meta PVP is boring

This is Conquest game mode. Tanks and sustain to hold points will be ALWAYS meta. In fact, this meta is better balanced because it allows condition builds at some extent using burning (or Cele Necro works good too).

There can be a balance – if you don’t make tanks too strong.
Everything but full bunker shouldn’t be able to fight a 2v1.

But if we add generally more damage via sigils or whatever, then not even full bunkers in this game will be able to sustain 2v1. In my opinion, these Conquest “metas” will always be “boring” to some because Conquest is that way: capture points that you need to hold efficiently, while killing other holders.

Yes conquest is a horrible mode imo.
We definitely don’t need more damage, because that would always hurt zerkers. Instead reduce tanks specs a little.
If you ask me – a true bunker should not drop at all in a 1v1, survive a little bit to stop a 2vs1 until help arrives (but HAS to go down after some time) and should have absolutely 0 chance to survive in a 3v1 as soon as he runs out of supportive skills.

The point capture is dependent on the amount of people standing inside of it. (so 2 guys can cap against 1). This would force you to help bunkers asap and you could balance it so that an uncontested point gets captured faster than a contested point.
This imo would keep bunkers viable but would not make it possible to entirely rely on them.

Anet wanted to abandon the Holy trinity, yet in a bit different way this is exactly how pvp works. And it should not be like that.

This is Conquest game mode. Tanks and sustain to hold points will be ALWAYS meta. In fact, this meta is better balanced because it allows condition builds at some extent using burning (or Cele Necro works good too).

There can be a balance – if you don’t make tanks too strong.
Everything but full bunker shouldn’t be able to fight a 2v1.

Mmo PvP will always be like this, builds with good sustain and damage wins. This is no different than trinity pvp mmos why not just bring the trinity system to gw2 at the end mmo pvp ends up being the same zhit.

tons of different group builds countering each other with constant skill balance from the devs keeping the game interesting and different all the time.
If there was a strong meta everyone played – nerf it.

I really can’t understand how they managed to almost always balance thousands of skills in the first game, yet fail to fix something like ele not even after months.

As much as we hope for it I’m sure they won’t do any of this. For one reason:

Casuals.

They can hardly handle 10 skills and their f abilities, they could obviously not handle the old trait system or explore anything without it being smashed in their face by 8568 shiny boxes overflowing their screen.
And if we know one thing for sure it is that gw2 will never become “complex” or “difficult” to play.
Their goal is to make it that easy that even your monkeys could use it as a way to pass their time and they can get more money out of sales.
Hell even someone suffering from tourette, smashing the buttons without any control would be able to beat the “challenges” this game offers. (no personal offense)

Enjoy the complexity we have… While you still can.

Another good aspect of gw1 pvp. Everyone got the same rewards no matter what they did. (at least you could report for leeching which is obviously too much of a challenge for only 3 years…)

If it is supposed to be a team play gamemode you should be rewarded as a team.

No you can’t balance 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, AND 5v5s. Especially with multiple types of modes. If you want to add 1v1 and 2v2 you could but to put them at the same level of competition as 5v5, no.

You can balance everything if you want.

I mean they had thousands of skills to balance in gw1 and got the job done.

You don’t understand how the map works. It’s just everyone fighting in some narrow space. Great for the aoe spammy classes like your necro, but hardly any skill involved.

If you want team deathmatch, it needs to be a more open space area. Hopefully guild arenas will solve that.

I don’t play necro only. I love it with any class.

I definitely had my best matches there.
It feels so much more satisfying to win by one kill when the teams are very balanced than winning 500-499 in conquest.

Mesmers would be much easier to fight with old pu.

With the old version you needed to hurry to get behind the enemy after stealthing – which made shatters quite predictable and easy to dodge.
So instead you needed good gameplay and this also justified the high damage.

After the buff you can stealth, run behind your enemy, drink a cup of tea, remember the first 10000 digits of pi and eventually do your incredible shatter out of nowhere paired with an instant stun.

Shatter mesmer/thief is also kind of hard, but these are being carried by passive procs from traits and runes of vampirism atm.

Play without vampirism and you got a challenge

It may be quite helpful for thieves, but all other classes can easily play without. (especially mesmer)
