although the current trend would lead you to think they will add some new superior stat to wvw that you can only get in hot to force you to upgrade to be competitive in wvw.
You will always need the classical roles as well.

Guild halls should have been available at release. Same with everything we’ve gotten in the Feature Packs. The game was very unpolished at release, and it’s taken some time to get it caught up. That feature alone is not worth $50 to me.
Why should Guild Halls have been available on release?
Because they wanted a perfect copy of Guild Wars 1 with every feature of Guild Wars 2 until now, developed within 1 year, for 50$ only.
That’s your problem. You can say it’s not worth it for you if you don’t use half of the features. But you have absolutely no right to tell it’s not worth it overall just because You don’t care about features and can’t acknowledge their value.
It’s not about the numbers of content you are getting. It’s about the quality of content they give you.

Numbers give a broad indication of how much content we’ll be getting. We have a good idea of the quality we can expect, we’ve played the core game.
If it only includes one world boss and little else, that will impact on the value awarded to the expac.
Quantity matters in expansions.

Take the guild halls… In the time it took them to actually gather all the ideas, make an entirely new concept and code all the new mechanics they could have made at least 10 normal pve maps I bet.
But do you give them credit for making this truly awesome and overwhelming new concept? No. All you say is “I don’t see high enough numbers to justify this price tag”
Even though you don’t know how much work is actually been put in it and you don’t know how big of a part it will take in your playtime.

Apparently he/she doesn’t know that as a Mesmer, he/she has a lot of access to reflects, refuses to change his/her build to counter projectiles and seems to think that allowing a Ranger to just free cast LB skills on him/her should be an acceptable and viable way to play.
LOL… Rangers don’t even have a close chance to beat mesmers if they are only a little good playing.

Atm I don’t think im buying it, but if they release more info about things for WvW I might change my mind.
The new WvW maps will be available for everyone. If this is really the only thing you care about (but I guess elite specialisations will be interesting for you) you don’t need to buy HoT in the near future.

I agree with that as well, there is so much crying in the forums I can feel a Warm Hug from a Quagan or Olaf will dry all those tears and put a smile from ear to ear .
Besides anything else, I never got this…literally everyone wants a quaggan plushy. If they sold those things they could make millions and millions of dollars.

But the most important thing still: do something better for the players who bought this game earlier because of the FAQ. Those are the people that are still the easiest for you to loose.
The specialisations definitly tie in with HoT (they also always presented it to be a feature of it)
The other things…you can’t know. It is not HoT only content, but it is included with HoT and has been advertised as HoT features.
It was simply impossible to make it HoT only, because it would split the entire community. In my eyes it is a part of what you are paying for. If you don’t think so it’s fine as well. I just wanted to mention it so the OP can make his own decision.
I just looked up the german page at it seems quite bad to me.

That’s why I mentioned that it’s included before.
If they included it with HoT only you’d take it as a feature as well…they are simply giving you the chance to test it before.
IMO HoT can take credit for those things, because these are things that were designed FOR HoT and the OP should know that with the purchase of the expansion he supported these changes as well.
He can then decide for himself if he only wants to judge the price tag by the completely new content or by everything around it.
Anyway, I’m mainly attacking Anet’s integrity considering they give an expansion-worth, if you want to call it that, 3 years after its release, while in GW1 they came up with an entirely new SEQUEL 1.5 years later. They clearly don’t care about the game as much as they used to.
But how many millions are they losing on players who won’t buy the expansion at all now? How many millions are they losing on gems sales from gem spenders who object to anet milking us for what in the past would have been included?
I can’t know what they are thinking since they didn’t say anything yet. But you should ask the question how many people will buy it in the end anyway.
People said wow is gonna kill gw2, Arche age is gonna kill it, eso is gonna kill it.

I don’t know what their strategy is (also think about the fact that the publisher NC soft takes care of money, not anet) but they have one of the very best mmo’s right now so they may just rely on the fact that people will buy it anyway since there is no better option.

Maybe you should have the ability to teleport to all the taverns in Tyria where you have different activities. (card and strategy games for asura, fighting games for norn /charr)
Veteran players have already gotten their fair share of free stuff, living story which if these new players want to experience they have to pay for, free level 20 boosts for being active during the anniversaries, free skins, free level 80’s if you didnt waste your tomes, and who knows what else was given out.
That was all covered by the initial game purchase.
Thinking back on all that goodness only makes the expansion look worse and worse.
But you don’t know how much of that kind you can expect within the next 3 years again.
So basically it will be impossible to evaluate HoT until the next addon where we can say “all the content they brought over time was well worth my money” or “the content density was quite disappointing for 50 bucks”
But you simply can’t know it yet. You can only know if you are personally sure that you will have enaugh fun for your money or not.

I am complaining about the part of the rage train that only cries because of that one reason.
I case you didn’t get it yet: the rage train consists of
-unfair FAQ change for new players (100% legit)
-disappointed veterans (legit but not a reason for such a huge flamewar imo, simple solution: character slots for everyone)
-people crying about newbies getting the better deal (not legit)
-people simply trying to gain as much profit as possible out of the flamewar by comparing non existent content to other games (100% NOT legit)
Unfortunatly all of them get mixed up.
I write something about the people who only flame because of the money and someone like you comes around the corner defending his point, that it’s not about the money because you are a disappointed veteran.
Nothing against you. You have the right to do so but these entirely different groups make the overall discussuion extremly complex because the different parties within the rage train also stand against each other.

a) give everyone a free character slot and leave everything else like it is
and b) be more transparent to people who bought the game only because of the FAQ within…lets say the last 6 months and just give them enaugh tomes of knowledge to get their chars up to the point they were as well as some gold in exchange for the value of their current state.

The gem model works wonderful and they create a good revenue with it.
They never ever said that there will never ever be a payed expansion. They just said that there needs to be a good reason (= enaugh content) to do so.
Since the beginning it has always been kind of clear that every new elder dragon will come with an expansion. I don’t know where you have your information from.
An example on Gw2; a new offer appear on the black lion :
– a new item very game changing (just for the example).
The offer say that:
– if your account is less than 2 months old; it will cost you 400 gems.
– if your account is older than 2 months; it will cost you 800 gems.
Would you be happy ?
No the example would be the following:
-The new item comes to the cash shop.
-if your account is older than 12 months it will cost you 400 gems.
-if your account is younger than 12 months it will cost you 400 gems and you get a free mini queen jennah, which you – as a verteran – recieved with your birthday gift a long time ago already.
Considering that 800gems are 10$ you are looking at 1200 gems here. A mini may be around 300-400, the finishers are coming in at 600-700 gems on average.
So you are at 1000 gems already. And you still have the decoration and the glider (the glider may be ~700-800 as well)
I had also wished for something more… Creative, but if you bought everything you can consider it to save you money.
The simple point is that people are raging without any information.
They simply didn’t tell you all the features yet. That’s enough to say it’s not worth the pre purchase. But it’s not enough to boycott the entire add on before you even know what’s to come.
And they take a bit of false information (who said you were getting one map only? Nobody) to justify their greed. All they want is to pay as little money as possible. Nothing else. And they are hiding behind what they think are arguments.
It is OK if people have concerns. But how can you say it’s not worth it if you simply don’t know the features yet? (which is about 95% of the threads here)
That’s the system of pre purchase.
So we do have the right to call those people hilarious. Because they simply don’t have any arguments. They judge the add on by 3-4 information they know until now. This doesn’t mean it has to be enough for them to pre purchase. But you also simply can’t say how much it is going to be worth.
Just to name the biggest “arguments”
-you don’t know how many maps will come nor how big they will be
-you have no idea what the challenging group content will be
But these 2 things make 90% of the people here say it’s not worth their money. Because all we have are false information.
That is a valid complaint.
Sometimes I also wish I’d get something back from arenanet.
But is this a reason to call the entire add on a complete disaster? Is it a reason to join this massive raging mob? Is only this a reason not to enjoy the game anymore?

Those complaints do exist, yes. But personally I feel like complaining about it now is like punching the one lying on the ground already. These are the times where we as veterans who enjoyed the game should support arenanet and stand against those blind ragers. Even though we wish they’d actually show us their thankfulness.
Who knows… Maybe they finally do something useful about the birthday gifts. Because that has always been something wonderful for your loyalty.
And at this point I just want to thank you for arguing logical and not with blind rage.
