Why do you think that it sould be intended to solo cap an objective on a map with (hopefully) 100 players?

I really like playing some longbow ranger inbetween.
The effectivness depends a lot on map and enemies, but since you can freely swap you just have to wait for the right conditions. And if they are given you won’t be calling the ranger useless.
If you are playing ranger only it’s for sure that you will be useless in most of the games.

Pretty sure most elite specs won’t be roflstomp superior in WvW.
I mean what do we get?
-necro : nice to have but staff+Wells will be strong enough to compete with range
-mesmer: could in deed be fun
-engi : meh
Ele: staff will stay mandatory
Ranger? Probably not much more useful as right now
Guard? Hahahahahahaha
Warri/thief: we will see, but it won’t be too op compared to the existing classes.

I wouldn’t even think that much about rewards. I guess everyone knows that WvW players are not here for the reward.
After all this is a competitive mode. Player versus player.
You are here to fight your enemies in a bloody and unforgiving war, not some paper gates.
I think at the moment the most important point for players is to disencourage pvd play. Which imo could be easily achieved by making a siege an actual siege. If you need 8 hours to upgrade a keep it shouldn’t be destroyed within 5 minutes. It has to be a big fight. You need to siege your enemy for hours, slowly drain their supplies until they desperatly fight to the last man. But it has to be hard. Imo the chances to take, say a fully upgraded t3 keep at equal numbers should at least be 75/25 favoring the defense.
That’s how a mass pvp should be like imo.
Rewards and scoring systems don’t matter if the actual combats are not worth it.
The more fun the gamemode is itself the less people care about rewards. Because victory is their reward.

Mostly GW1, a little bit of sPvP and…oh yeah I decided not to buy hot.

I think (and hope) that they are going to change all these things with the addon so they can sell it as the revolution of WvW.
But this comes at the price that over 3 years there were no major changes and players had to live with the same things and do the same things over and over and over again.
For a competitive gamemode this is the wrong way to go.
If there are problems they have to be fixed asap and not be sold with the next expansion 3 years later.
Simply focus on one aspect of WvW, load a patch, let’s say every 6 months, and look how it impacts the gamemode instead of changing everything at once, patching in 9999 bugs and beeing completely overstrained by the complexity of the new machanics working together which they can impossibly even closely simulate in the state of development.

They will give you this kind of stuff. I mean it’s PvE…in a competitive mode…what could go wrong?Although it may seem like a sarcastic thread. I actually 100% legit want them to buff the grub. Its mechanics are weak and boring and outdated. It has like two attacks and no condi clears. Even the tiny grubs he spawns should be bumped to at least veteran status. All the other world bosses got their health pool increased but they ignored this one?
They should have deleted it long ago. It makes no sense. It takes (took) too long and overall is just PvE in a competitive gamemode.

Do we really want major changes though? Most will say yes but if you look at temporary changes such as events and tournaments, I’m pretty sure more would rather not see any changes.
Even new map people are saying will become EoTM 2.0 and unfortunately it may become that since so many are putting it in peoples heads that it will be before any of us have played it..
“Major changes” are things like finally making a scoring system that is not dependent on 24/7 coverage, fixing the endless lags, the fact that the bigger group is always superior in 99% of the cases, to disencourage pvd play and so on.

And as far as we knew Arenanet in the past they are only telling people about things if they are sure to deliver it. Not in this case, so the disappointment is even bigger.

This is only a sampling of what we intend to add to WvW. We have a lot of ideas (some crazy, some not) that we hope to release to make WvW an even more vibrant game; a game that will continue to grow and evolve for years to come.
In this post right now I have 9 paragraphs with things that you wanted to change and that you should have changed within the 2 years. None of this actually happened. And this is only “a sampling”?
So if you’ve obviously got enaugh ideas for the next 20 years..why don’t you implement any of these before the gamemode is entirely dead?

Read it yourself, as a developer. What happened to your promises? Why don’t you talk to us at all? Why don’t you actually listen to the ideas of players that know the current state of the gamemode?

This gamemode had, and still has, a lot of potential if you are actually doing something about it and care about it.
This gamemode is unique amongst all current MMO’s. It could be a great advertisement for the game. Because competitive players are NOT “exceptions”
You always talked to your community in GW1 to keep the competitive gamemodes viable. Why don’t you do it now?
We all have the goal to make this game fun-but if you don’t ask the players what they think is fun it’s just not going to work.

So I recently found an old blog post about the state of WvW in one of the threads here and was wondering myself what actually happened until now.
I will quote the most important things from this 2(!) years old post.

We’ve been shifting our focus from major new features to solidifying WvW as it currently exists
6 months later we got eotm.
Current State
Support play is vital to victory but unevenly rewarded in terms of World XP, XP, gold, karma, badges, and other tangibles. While those players rebuilding your walls may be performing a vital service, theirs is usually thankless work.
Commanders are a major part of the battle, but right now their tools for commanding are few.
Guilds are an important part of strategic gameplay as well, but they aren’t rewarded much for taking an active, positive role.
And? No changes at all. And please don’t tell me that an airstrike over sm castle is the great idea you had for making guilds more viable.
Future plans
All of that may be well and good, but addressing all of those issues is a tremendous undertaking — one that won’t happen overnight.

We didn’t ask for ruins, we didn’t ask for traps and we didn’t ask for eotm. We asked you to change the actual gamemode itself to make it more fun. But you wasted your time for minor stuff while the actual gamemode and the biggest things about it never changed.
The only positive things I could say is the more dynamic matchmaking system (which was very much needed) and WXP. Thank you for that.

I guess all of us know the current state of smart play vs. zerg play. And where are the changes to the scoring system? Do you think giving 1 point for a sentry actually matters in the end, compared to objectives?
Right now our game rewards you for holding an objective, not necessarily for taking it, and overwhelmingly favors the last server to log out for the day. We have some ideas in the pipeline to try to increase scoring when people are playing the game and to make it much more difficult to keep your territory without actively guarding it.
Why haven’t you done anything about it if you already thought about it 2 years ago? The scoring system is one of the most important thing in a competitive mode, yet you haven’t done anything to make it better.
We’ve also been tossing around some ideas to introduce variety into the matches on a weekly basis. Just imagine the possibility of rule changes that come in for a week and then disappear into the Mists.
So after 2 years with this idea you came up with god kitten golems? WHAT THE ACTUAL KITTEN?
we don’t think that “MOAR arrow carts!” should be the answer to every situation

I’m just happy that I didn’t buy hot yet.
I have to admit that I was very close to buy it but with the actual WvW development they will have to do something really mindblowing to actually get me buy that piece of kittens.
In the state it is right now, I don’t see my future in WvW and with that in gw2.

I think this wouldn’t work in the end. The idea is great but in reality, especially if you can port while contested, one guy could scout all the keeps around the map and once the enemies arrive only 5-10 guys need to port back, take the siege and destroy the attackers (10ac and gg) while the other 70 can roll around the map, forcing the enemy to port back and do the same if they want to keep something.
So in the end you’d either hide behind your siege all day long or just don’t give a kitten and pvd for your life.
And it would make it so much easier to actually roll over the entire map once, build siege in every keep and just have 10 guys to defend the entire map against 70-80 because they can just jump from keep to keep.

Quick Response: Each tower and keep has a WP, that remains usable even when under attack. However, players cannot use any WP (except the citadel WP) for 2-3 minutes after being defeated.
This would cause an extreme “hide behind your siege and wait” game and discourage any kind of open battles.
Sounds perfect for ANet…

People have been begging for anet to add GvG to the game for years now. They are only listening to their players. GvG stands for Golem versus Golem right….right?!
We got a fancy arena where every random noon can interrupt the fight.
But at least they managed to build an arena… After 1 1/2 years… Which took about 2 hours to implement.
And let’s not forget eotm which literally changed the way we see wvw.
We should be thankful for how much arenanet listened to the wishes of their community… Not.
But we are all exceptions anyway.

You are obviously playing lich the wrong way.
You have the big range advantage and can hide behind your allies. If the enemy comes towards you you hit him ~3x before he even moved the 1200 units towards you.
Also using it from higher ground etc where it may not be instantly seen can be very useful in teamfights. Or beeing behind the enemy where he doesn’t even see where the damage is coming from until the second or third hit (which usually means gg for them). But you will always see that rampage warrior on you latest with the first hit.
Usually I pop lich when they are busy with my teammates and before they even realized where I am and can properly react due to the combat situation I can crit down about 2 guys, or at least hit them so hard that my teammates have an easy game to finish them off.
With rampage they see you coming and instantly run away. Lich has to be used more sneaky.
E: Lich does of course lose 1v1 against rampage.

There is a wide variety of builds. What class are you playing? What role do you want to take? (damage vs support) What group size is your server usually running?

For me it was quite obvious. If it’s greyed out it means that you can’t interact with it anymore (click it). So if you grey out the box that you can actually click then it would be even more confusing imo.

i can only think of one MMORPG that has a large competitive/viewer based PvP scene. Every thing else is a completely different style game, like MOBAs. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but which MMORPGs, other than WoW, are really that much more successful than GW2?
It is different genre, but EVE is pretty much only about PvP and quite popular.

First of all, the waypoint for the garri is way to far from the lord room making it very ineffective. Also, East and West keep not having a waypoint makes it even harder to defend and gives the bigger servers with the numbers the advantage. If you are on another map how do you know your keep is contested without the waypoint? Not every server can afford to have scouts on east and west keep 24/7. If this isn’t changed these maps will be a karma trainers paradise and this is exactly what most of the community doesn’t want.
About your first point: waypoints were never intended to be active between the timers so this may be intentionally.
I thought that only the keep on your side of the map has a wp for you? They said it works like eotm. This would allow you to at least have an indication for your keep. If you want to hold the other keeps you will need scouts.
Anyways it will hopefully be much harder to defend the other keeps. We will have to see how the non accessable wayboints and the longer travel distance will affect zerg gameplay.

Literally the most flawed “idea” ever. People will abuse this by sitting at the character select screen if they are still counted as being in the queue; therefore adding to wasted space in the BLS. Timer or not, people are gonna abuse it one way or another.
And where is the difference between sitting afk in a PvE zone and the character select screen?

That’s a very bad idea and would make those skills completely useless. They have the physical restriction of being on once spot only.
There is something called evade. You should try it out for red circles. Or try my very secret advise…don’t go inside of these fields, but shhh that’s very secret.

OMG Necros are so OP right now, they kill in seconds and if not they just cannot die, they can tank 3 people and kill 1 of them, I saw it in many different matches, it is CRAZY! They are constantly on Death shroud dealing insane damage. They are so broken, so OP, I used to win them 1v1 80% of the times now I kill only some noobs… this is just sad.
Attack the minions instead of the necro…

Better make some nice pve achievement grind that 90% of the players are actually doing.
I guess if you say that the average server has ~500 active wvw players that would already be a lot. But nothing compared to pve or their loved but long failed esports

I strongly agree with 2. WvW Legendary gear and skins. Let us use our badges and ranks to earn Legendary gear and unique skins that can ONLY be earned through accumulated badges.
Np, just hand it to the guy that made achievements.
Precursors are 500 million badges, if you want to buy legendaries directly its 10 billion badges.
Why bother with badges? Finish all the wvw achievements and you get your legendary.
I love the idea of having those skins but we all know that anet is casual friendly.
It would either be like wvw achievements or involve a kitten ton of pve to get it.
And ques would get even worse with everyone farming for those legendaries.
