But it’s also 50-150 extra statpoints to everybody:

Don’t forget that the situation is unfair if you have mjor coverage and population discrepancy.

If team A can field max players and send 30 to cap, while team B only has 50 players and can only afford to send 5 to cap, guess who still has more members on the field with a buff that makes them much more powerful as a group?

Team A.

So during primetime it might be fair, but outside that this buff really just makes population and coverage matter even more as opposed to skill and tactics.

This buff is a real slap to the face of any low coverage server, and essentially unfair overall.

Well said. My recently slapped face agrees with you.

Entropy.4732

It all makes sense now!! Tequatl has risen from the waves with one purpose: To destroy Tyria by ruining WvW with the bloodlust buff! Naturally the dragon favors big, overpowering servers getting buffed so they can unfairly crush low pop servers even quicker because he knows this will sow unrest among the player base. Tequatl has sworn revenge on all living things. He means to destroy the very fabric of GW2 by infuriating the players and causing as many of them to rage quit as possable. As we speak, I’m sure the real WvW programmers are bound and gagged in the closet, while Risen minions dressed as Anet employees walk around doing their jobs, undermining the game from within. How can we stop this diabolical plan?

This Bloodlust buff is a horrible, wretched idea. On servers like NSP we fight every day using complex, carefully orchestrated tactics to make up for our lack of numbers. You’ve now given the strongest server a huge buff. This is inexplicable to me. We are already losing WvW players every day due to the flawed match up system, and now this??? Are you trying to punish the underdog servers even more? Why do the superior servers need to be any stronger? Has all logic gone out the window? Thank god GTA 5 came out this week.

Entropy.4732

Maybe edit name of topic cause 20min of cooldown its only for wvw, for pve dosent work its too much time for a cool down, i beleive your only thinking about wvw situation.

Remember that you always start after log in with all skills refreshed, so it works fine for PVE too, you’ll have one use ready to go. Save it for a boss fight or a moment of panic in a dungeon. The circumstances wouldn’t matter. It’s about time management. As to the above criticism, I agree that more skills in general would be cool, but right now certain builds are locked into certain slot skills and will never have room for another skill. Thus another slot would work great. You would need to think of these ascended skills like a rare occurrence. Very much like a legendary. Something you would work hard to acquire, a status symbol, something you might use effectively once a day if you’re lucky. It wouldn’t be a common thing in the gameplay. This critique that it would kill your frame rate because everyone would be spamming them constantly is absurd. If anything I would say the cool down should be increased or spell use limited to once a 24 hour cycle. The ascended elite skill would be the kind of thing that is surprising and awe-inspiring when it happens. A “huzzah” moment for allies and an “oh kitten” moment for foes. Many players don’t see much use in grinding for a legendary, but this would be worth grinding for. Something spectacular and rare that you could actually do, not just hold.

Entropy.4732

No offense, but we don’t need another skill slot (we need more skills to choose from, including weapon skills).

Also why do you want to gate it to the 1%? 150 sp cost is fine, but requiring mats for a skill, forcing people to craft, or worse yet rnd, makes no sense from a gw1 or 2 perspective. And with a 15-20 min cd? This isn’t that type of MMO.

When all the transformation skills were at a 30 duration with 4min cd almost no one used them because they were pretty pointless. Look at it from most game angles.

almost like a god-like miracle They could really help break zergs up in WvW too.

PvP you can only use that skill once for the entire match.
PvE World Bosses only once per world boss (and possibly not even have it ready by the next one)
PvE Open World: I don’t see where this would be needed currently
PvE Dungeon/Fractals Normal Runs: Hope you don’t need to use that skill twice in 1 run, or you’ll be sitting around for 5min waving at the boss while you wait for your cd
PvE Dungeon Speed Runs: you’d only get that skill for 1 boss, every 2-3 runs
WvW: And what happens when you have 2 zergs using these awesome skills against each other, besides dropping the fps of most people involved.

And, here’s the rub, although three skills would be available you could only unlock one.

That goes against the “play how you want” / experiment with different builds that gw2 is (/was) trying to achieve. It’s bad enough for people that want multiple sets of ascended gear for different stats/builds.

Personally, I hate the idea of something that has that long of a cd. If I want a “nuke” button I’ll go play an old school jrpg.

Wow… Mr. Wet Blanket crits me for 10,000. Okay, fine. Not your cup of tea. I gotcha.

Personally I play a ton of WvW and the serious problem there with the current meta is that massive Zerg blobing leaves players feeling powerless. Unless you’re a full bunker guardian you get liquified pretty fast. The game needs a few Zerg breaker skills, and skills that make us feel special and frankly, more powerful. Something that could tip a battle. Something epic. I like long cool downs because you’d really have to think about when to use it. Think of them like legendary skills. And yes, timing them all with one group would be a good strategy. I don’t see anything wrong with that. Course I’m sure you do.

New elite "Ascended" skill

Entropy.4732

I love gw2, but after countless hours of gameplay I think we could all really use one more skill slot. Combat needs to be a tad deeper. That combined with the reality that elite skills are just not powerful enough, especially in WvW, makes me feel like a super elite skill slot should be added. The idea would be that each class would get 3 new super elite skills or “Ascended Skills” that would take a serious grind to unlock and some crafting. Maybe 150 skill points, some ascended / exotic materials, some RNG too maybe. A new “ascended” slot would be added near the elite slot. These 3 ascended skills would only be achievable at level 80 and would have a massive cool down, maybe 15-20 minutes. The effect though when triggered would be awe-inspiring, visually stunning, and quite powerful. The idea would be that when someone used one it would be very noticeable and effective, almost like a god-like miracle They could really help break zergs up in WvW too. And, here’s the rub, although three skills would be available you could only unlock one. So you’d really have to choose ahead of time which skill you want to invest in.

POST YOUR IDEAS FOR ASCENDED ELITE SKILLS:

Here’s some of mine:

Guardian:
“Arc of the Convienant”. 20 min cool down. Similar to the end of “Raiders of the Lost Arc”, the guardian would summon a large golden chest and unlock it. Out of the chest would stream howling, celestial, beams of light with skeletal faces that would bounce from foe to foe in a dazzling display of light, blinding targets, causing damage, stripping all boons from foes and giving all boons to allies.

Mesmer:
“Nightmare World” 18 min cool down. The Mesmer would summon a large dancing “jester” phantasm that would enable friendly fire on all foes and make all foes see green names on your allies, instead of red. The jester would dance and laugh while this was going on. Foes could still attack your allies, but a “T” tab target would send them to target an ally of theirs, and of course AOE would damage their allies as well. Duration would last for 15 seconds.

Necromancer
“Call of the Risen” 20 minute cool down. Summon a wave of risen zombie warriors who claw their way up from the earth and attack your foes. 5 risen including one abomination. While this is happening you gain Heath for each risen killed.

Engineer
“Skritt Maintenance Crew” 16 minute cool down. An air drop of skritt with broken hammers, steam punk gear, and other tools would swarm onto your target (siege, wall, door, or living aoe group). If your target is siege or a wall or door is targeted the skritt will completely repair the siege. If your target is a group of people the skritt will repair the armor of allies and significantly weaken or brake the armor of foes so that repairs are nessessary.

I miss the old match up system

Entropy.4732

i feel like the new system is they put numbers in a hat and then select the servers based on that. the personal reason i say this is the end point system i.e. its usually about 250k, 90k, 80k in points, with the old system (wasn’t perfect) i think it was more even fights (on most occasions) but with the new one its not a fight about who comes in first, but who comes in second. and its happened for the last couple months.

Totally agree with this. First place is rarely an option. It’s all about who gets second place, which ultimately boils down to which sever the winning server decides to pick on more.

I miss the old match up system

in WvW

Posted by: Entropy.4732

Entropy.4732

After considerable hours in WvW since the new matching system, I really miss the old system. And here’s why:

1) In the old days when you went up a server rank it felt like a huge victory. And when you went down it felt like a crushing loss. With this new system it’s all jumbled up. When we’re winning, we drop a rank. When we lose, we go up a rank. I’m sure the math all adds up somewhere and doing tolerably against a higher ranking server means blah blah blah… It’s still a weird feeling. Since launch I’ve wanted a real prize for winning a WvW match. Or at least first and second rewards. This feels like even more a step away from that.

2) The matches are totally not even. I think when Anet instituted this new system they said something like “We were curious what would happen if higher ranking servers fought against lower ranking servers.” Well, I can satisfy their curiosity. The higher ranked servers win. Hard. In the old days WvW matches felt so much more balanced and fair because each server was only one rank ahead or behind. The matches were exciting, nerve-wracking, clashes of desperate fighting for every last point. Sometimes an hour before reset we still wouldn’t know who’d come out on top. Bitter & beautiful grudges formed between servers because some match-ups would go on week after week. I’m thinking specifically of the HoD, GoM, NSP match up which lasted a few months. It was glorious. An intense rivalry formed between us and we started to learn GoM techniques and adapt to their strategies. When HoD finally dropped out of the match it was sad to see them go (good sad). Now each week it’s a total toss up. No rhyme or reason. We’re losing WvW players every week because fighting some random server with tons more players than you is a drag and most WvW players just wait the week out to see if they get a better match up next week. Real boring.

3) This may seem like a minor quip in comparison, but WvW ranks feel strange. I want others to be able to see my rank. Also, at level 50 something I’m still a “squire”. The last three rank ups where all still “squire” A squire???? Really? How meek and pitiful of a title can there be? Here’s how Wikipedia defines a squire: “A squire was the shield bearer or armor bearer of a knight, and at times squires included a knight’s errand runner or servant.” I’m a huge level 80 Norn guardian and I’m rank 50. I really should have moved beyond the “square” phase by now. That should be WvW rank 1.

Agree? Disagree? Post below.

I can’t recommend cleric’s gear except -maybe- for keeping a zerg alive in wvw? Maybe?

… I just want someone to validate a use for my pile of exotics x_x;

That’s exactly what I use it for, keeping zergs alive in WvW. And it works great. We’re called “Guardians” for a reason. Cleric’s gear helps us guard those around us. What is this? The necromancer forum?

@MaskedParadigm – Of course I heal / buff / cleanse everyone around me. That’s my role in WvW and it works well in PvE too. Got nothing to do with the skill of the players around me, I’ll heal everyone. Not sure why you’re so steamed up about another player healing and buffing you. I never met a thief or warrior who was like “Hey! STOP healing me please! WTH!!!” As a boon / support / heal / shout guardian running clerics and runes of altruism I can give fury, might, stability, protection, regeneration, reflection and tons of heals to everyone around me whenever I want for as long as I want. But if you’re so selfish that you only care about your own health, then fine. Look at it another way. With Altruistic Healing the more boons I can spread means more healing for me. In a Zerg I’m almost un-killable. I switch to GS, slice away, and do a ton of damage. Everybody wins. I can’t do that with full zerk. Zerk trinkets I do have.

Entropy.4732

The support a guardian gives to his party isn’t affected by his gear. Protection always gives 33% reduced damage, Aegis always does the same kitten, Might doesn’t scale from anything, condition removal works as good naked as it does in gear. That is all the support a guardian will ever have to give to his party (also fire fields, which isn’t affected by gear either) so knowing that, why the hell would anyone even use cleric stats over zerker on a support guardian?

Well there are a few very good reasons for using clerics. First off, gear and traits DO affect boon duration, and the boon duration you have counts towards the boons you apply. Second, support is not just about boons and condition removal. For me, it’s largely about healing power. Healing power is directly affected by gear and the difference is huge between zerk and clerics. If I’m trying to heal my group using a virtue, a dodge or a symbol (writ of the merciful) then we’re talking about a difference of thousands of hit points. Plus, even if you wanna be selfish, more healing power means more survivability for you, which means more time alive to deal damage. I recomend clerics gear with Runes of Altruism or Soldier and Berzerker trinkets. That’s a nice combo.

I love mace. Traited with Mace of Justice gives 5% more damage over all and 250 healing power. Combine that with high enough healing power and writ of the merciful, and mace #2 can turn the tide of combat very effectively. Personally I like mace #3, either way a block / damage or protection works for me and has great synergy with AH. I wish the auto attack did something else in the 3rd hit tho. That’s my only criticism. Like apply a cripple or another symbol, but I doubt they’ll add that. I have way more issues with staff than mace.

I love Gw2 and think they did some things extremely well, but I agree that the whole personal story (and the personality system) was really poorly handled. A lot of it is the writing combined with the lack of real, cinematic cut scenes. It’s hard to get into dialogue scenes when two characters are just standing there facing eachother in some black, negative space.

SWTOR did personal story extremely well. Every choice you made had drastic consequences in the plot that increased or decreased your character’s standing in the light or the dark. I had to think very hard about what choices to make. I recall early on in my SWTOR personal story I had to choose whether or not to kill a child’s father or spare his life. My finger lingered over the keyboard for 20 minutes as I debated the morality and effect my choices would have.

It wouldn’t have been hard for GW2 to write dramatic scenes that were personal and emotional. They have good voice actors. Games should be written as well as movies and have the same emotional impact. Witcher proved that. I’ll never forget the opening of the original “Dungeon Siege” where you start as a simple farmer who’s life is interrupted by a massacre. Such a simple opening but the emotional impact really sets the player up well. GW2 seemed to shy away from any serious, sophisticated themes in their personal story quests and I’m not sure why. Obviously they didn’t want to go as extreme as Game of Thrones because of their age demography, but some serious writing would have gone a long way.

Having said that, there are some good scenes. spoilers the Pale Tree’s vision of Orr quest and the dragon’s assault on LA are all great. But Trahearne really steals the spot light. The whole story you feel like a flunky who’s just hanging around because they got nothing better to do. There’s ZERO emotional reaction from your character, even when your mentor is in danger. On one personal quest in Orr, I recall a moment where a victory was a success, but with great loss of life. There’s a brief moment where your character meekly brings up the fact that the victory is a bitter one because of all the soldiers that perished. This could have been a moment of great, dramatic tension. A reflection on the madness of war, a moment your character feels regreat, remorse, and guilt. Instead, the chipper Asura I was talking to just brushed the moment aside with a cheerful grin saying something like “But the mission was accomplished, and that’s the important thing! Good work commander! Let’s go back and tell Trahearne of our victory!” It’s just lazy writing. Cut scenes would have REALLY helped. It was so refreshing to see that noir cut scene in the last few patches.

Your personality is only tracked from the last 100 conversations with an NPC. There are also 10 types of personality and you’re idea of getting a special reward for maxing each one negates 7 of the types (though the finisher tied to your personality isn’t a bad idea).

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Personality
“Personality affects gameplay by offering certain dialogue options only to some types and altering the reactions of certain NPCs. However, the game is designed to avoid extreme consequences, i.e. players are able to take on different personality types without fear of losing out on overall rewards or benefits.”

I have gotten some dialogue options tied to my personality at some time or another, but I can’t really remember with who. And I haven’t played around with it enough to see if NPCs actually act different to me based on my personality.

In reference to “speed-talking” NPC’s —- This would not be a grind reward hit the box and kill the monsters sort of thing. It would be the end result of a ton of gameplay. And in terms of it being “all about the reward” most people choose the Priory, Vigil, or Shadows based on what end game armor they want. Why can’t we have both with emotions? I don’t see a problem with a finisher or even a tangible reward.

What is so stupid about the current system,it is the fact that you can ,,set,, your wanted personality by clicking dialoge line with the appropiate symbol you desire. This is not how RPG work you have to think by yourself which dialoge line could fit to character personality you want to be and the current situation, without seeing the symbol representing it. Also most of the personality bar should be filled via personal story rather than random NPC. And also they maybe should result in differnt ending or approach to whole fight with Zahitan. For instance someone barbaric will defeat Zahitan by ,,Pyrrus Victory,, making all friends hating hero at the and while someone charismatic will move bigger crowd to fight, and at the end may become known socialite of Tyria.

Great idea. That could be accomplished very easily. There are already so many personal story moments where you have to choose a course of action. Having each one of those actions reward you with points in the emotions makes sense. “Charisma” choices would be more sneaky and deceptive, “Ferocity” more direct, and “Dignity” more diplomatic.

If there’s one game element that badly needs an adjustment it’s these character attributes. During character creation we go so far as to choose one of them. Then they cease to have any real impact on our characters for the rest of the game. This is really a missed opportunity. I would suggest that if you max one out, like 1000 points in ferocity, or have some combination of a few, you can unlock a final reward. A piece of unique back armor that shows off your personality. Or at the very least a displayable title like “Warmonger” if you get enough Ferocity. Or “Seductress” if you get enough Charisma. SO much could be done by revamping this game mechanic. We should have to think hard about which dialogue choice we choose, what we are increasing. It will also encourage people to finish their personal quests. Maybe the reward should be a permanent finisher? An explosion of hearts if you max out Charisma? Or perhaps a unique emote that’s unlocked. Even something small would be a vast improvement. At least an achievement.

Finally I can post my own Evil Guardian. Thank you guys for all the stellar examples.

Meet her dark majesty “Lady of Tears”. She’s the baddest of the bad. Oh yes she is.

What pieces are those (assume it’s a mixed set)?

The shoulders and boots are heavy Karma armor (Grenth). The chest, legs, and head are Norn T3 cultural armor. The gloves are Hellfire Vambraces (Achievement reward). I used Midnight Ice and Ruby dye. Hammer is Magmaton.

We had a brilliant thread like this on the Asura forums and I think we should have one here. Our characters have some great one-liners, but we don’t get to hear them all depending on our classes/genders. List some of the great things your Norn says below:

When confused, she’ll mutter: “Ohh… How many ales have I had?” I love that. Hilarious.

When equipping an exotic item: “I LIKE it.”

On the battle field she will occasionally yell: “I’m AMAZING!”

When discovering a new area: “By Raven, there’s no end to Tyria…”

When health is really low she’ll say “I’m dying??” in a mystified way as if it’s inconceivable that such a tough norn could be taken down.
