So How Long To Kill ALL The Dragons?

Unless we kill them all together with some technology developed at the end of this Chapter and only then realize that by doing that, we killed all Magic in Tyria… bringing the new revamp and balance to the game with new features and that would be an interesting twist.

It’s the most fundamental problem with GW2 as a whole (in my opinion): you can’t just go out and farm the things you need to make the special weapons. Take Legendaries for example. In MMOs there have always been two ways to create an item like a Legendary:

1) Easy way: For the rich players, make it quickly by simply buying everything you need. Or if you’re very rich, just buy the item out-right.

I’m pretty sure in WoW for example you always had to do a raid or something to get a piece for your legendary item.

And pray that the item drops…

And pray that nobody else rolls/beats your roll…

I buy them from other players (not using the TP). My gray market methods are mainly only done with friends who trust me, nowadays, but I have never scammed nor been scammed.

I am not saying that I am going to do it with people on the forums, nor am I saying that I will do it. (Because I won’t do it with any of you), but that’s how I get some of mine (bar actually looting them).

And we’ll all get suppressed for years!!! woooooo~

Actually that would be what John Smith calls a grey market. Which isn’t “illegal” but strongly not encouraged… Plus you think we have inflation now, try it you’ll come to back to the TP in no time at all.

That’s not the definition of a grey market. The reason why it’s not encouraged is extremely different than the reason why it’s a grey market.

And I have done/do my fair share of grey market trading.

I don’t really think this is the proper place to discuss aspects of sadism and masochism. Alternatively you can always pick up the chunks of raw ore that they produce and through the into the brazier to get credit.

Of note, its Sadism if you take pleasure out of causing pain or discomfort.

My post was sarcastic, but you’re right about sadism only being when you take pleasure in the activity.

To be fair about Maplestory, that was simply the American method for the cash exchange (which, in turn, was adopted by EU, MSea, Taiwan).

In Korea (where the game originated), the system had permanent items from the very beginning. The sale tab, that exists in Global servers, lasted 365 days instead of being permanent (but at roughly 1/10 the price). Additionally, no class could use the cash shop to obtain skills (LOOKING AT YOU DUAL BLADER). I don’t believe it was there at the beginning, but it came pretty fast that you could trade cash shop items once before they became soulbound (although that one trade would also be used up by putting it in your bank).

So yes, Maplestory in America has a really criminal business model. But what was intended (and not enforced by corporate management) was relatively harmless and, by most definitions, fair.

Paying Transmute Charges for Gem Store Armor

Tsk tsk. Before April 15, you could only have one of that skin on one character. People pushes it, ANET let you now have as many copies of that skin as you want for transmutation charges. Now people want it for FREE. So demanding and entitlement. You bought it once. It’s already unlocked, and you have 1 free use of the skin. Just earn the transmutation charges. It’s not that hard to get. I’m sitting on a few hundreds by just playing.

The system is fine as is.

Lol you mean by doing lots of map completion? That’s the only way I can think of that “just playing” yields charges.

Nearly every activity in the game (not actually “activity” since those don’t yield the same drops) gives a chance of looting a Black Lion Chest Key or Black Lion Chest.

Opening those also gives you a chance at getting charges.

If you don’t want to spend money to get charges, and don’t want to map complete to get charges, then maybe you really don’t want to transmute things.

I want to get money, and I don’t want to work. Does that mean I should complain about having to work to get money?

D/D leveling build?

in Thief

Posted by: Esplen.3940

Esplen.3940

Seems relatively inefficient for leveling, even if you’re trying to do a grind-route with boosters.

I’ve been running D/D + SB, with all Signets and Mistfire Wolf. If I cared about going from point A to point B, I would slot Shadow’s Refuge, Infiltrator’s Signet (or Signet of Shadows if you have no access to Swiftness), Shadow Step.

Use Shortbow 5, Shadow Step, and Infiltrator’s Signet (with a target) to move around the map fast.

Use Shadow’s Refuge to get Skill Points or get past hard mobs.

Use D/D to kill mobs (SB 2 spam against destructibles or clusters of mobs, use of SB4 to apply AoE Weakness on blast is optional).

Use any Heal Skill except the 25 skill point ones.

If you kill mobs extremely fast and don’t need to utilize Cloak and Dagger for Backstabbing, swap to D/P for the additional shadowstep to get from mob to mob.

For Traits, keep the points in Trickery and slot Thrill of the Crime for boons (don’t need a target to get the boons, but Steal will go on cooldown).
Keep the points in Acrobatics and slot Power of Inertia or Assassin’s Retreat. Also possible to slot Fleet Shadow instead (and take off Thrill of the Crime), but this is harder to work with, although possible.

Of course, this is just my opinion and in no ways the best or most appropriate way of doing it.

Moving on to Signets?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Esplen.3940

Esplen.3940

sig of ether should be reduced to ticking every second, and its’ effect should be halved.

Any reason why you say this?

The reasoning for reducing the ticking to every second is because it’s such a huge reliance that having more ticks reducing the strain of needing 3 illusions up at all times (since most people aren’t counting until they get the heal).

The heal itself is roughly the same as Warrior Healing Signet, assuming the Mesmer has 3 Illusions out. Getting this halved without any change to the cooldown or active skill will effectively turn this skill into a heal with a utility into a utility with a heal. Then again it’s being ran as a utility with a heal, so I guess there’s really no problem (other than running dungeons with a pseudo-heal skill).

Also, Warrior Healing Signet is not the best heal a Warrior has. Neither is Signet of the Ether the best heal a Mesmer has. This is talking purely healing amounts. If we consider actives/playstyles, then there’s a whole discussion to be had but I’m tired.

does GW2 have a future?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Esplen.3940

To everyone misquoting and taking Vayne out of context…

Short answer, yes.

Longer answer… not sure.

Guild Wars 2 is great. It’s worth playing, and very fun. HOWEVER, the update model that has been adopted is highly controversial. Much content is temporary, many fundamental changes to progression have been problematic, and the Living Story + Gem sales business model is receiving mixed reviews at best.

Basically, it was a very, very good base game, the population is still good, and the game is still fun. However, a lot of the decisions that have been made since launch have been, in the opinion of many, poor. Many players have left, or are highly frustrated, and no one really knows where the game is going. If the quality of the game is going to be enough to carry it long term, especially if we see more of the same controversial decisions, I don’t know.

There’s some misinformation in this post. Much of the content WAS (not is) temporary, since the stuff that’s come out for season two is all permanent. We haven’t had temporary content added to the game since, what, March? People are living in the past and stating it as the future. The company tried an experience that didn’t work. They switched directions since.

But the rest of this is mostly true.

Guild Wars 2 is great. It’s worth playing, and very fun. HOWEVER, the update model that has been adopted is highly controversial. And the rest of it is Vayne trying to convey that festivals are in other MMO’s and therefore not counted in the “all things being temporary and bad because of that”. They pop in and out of existence, therefore they are temporarily available, but they are not one-time temporary events, such as the Giant Karka Queen, the Marionette Battles, the Living Story 1 Dungeons (bar the two Fractals released), and more.

Yes, those giant temporary events were bad. Why were they bad? Because players could not experience them. (I, personally, was on hiatus during Battle on Lion’s Arch + Aftermath. The Living Story seems dulled because I’m missing on key points and experiences.)

Festivals (SAB, Halloween, Christmas/Wintersday, etc) are temporary content that returns on an annual basis (in most cases). As such, they are exempt from the “temporary bad events” system.

You don’t go around saying that Brewfest, Darkmoon Faire, Christmas, Halloween, and other festival events made World of Warcraft bad (sorry, I had to bring up a generic MMO and this is one that most people will be able to relate or understand). They came by every so often and they were enjoyable. They were not particularly necessary for the game, nor did they (typically) change the lore of the world, but they were there for comedic/casual relief.

The same can be said of the temporary festivals in GW2. They are not necessary for the game, but they are there for comedic/casual relief. Why are they not necessary? Since one day in Tyria is every 2 hours, that would mean that there are 4,383 days in a Tyrian year if a festival is to return every year (in our time) at roughly the same date. Additionally, the festivals are lasting for roughly a month in our time (Halloween will be 2 weeks, maybe more this year), meaning a festival is around, ingame for 360 days, or a full year.

So while they do, sometimes, progress the story (original Halloween broke Lion’s Arch statue, followed by Lyns repairing it and Consortium things), they are not necessary to progress it.

Big tangents, but I hope people take off the argument goggles and realize that you’re all on the same side.

Let’s all hold hands and kill some dragons, k?

So you want something that’s challenging and rewarding.

Aetherpath is difficult with bad groups (see: challenging) and offers some of the highest costing skins loot-able in game (bar Precursors/expensive Mystic Forge items) that are also trade-able (see: rewarding).

But then suddenly it’s too difficult and not rewarding anymore because you don’t immediately get rewarded.

Then there’s Fractals which are artificially difficult (meaning you actually have to, dear lord, change up your build mid-run and optimize for each section). You also don’t particularly get good items to sell, but you do get loads of T5/6 materials on the higher difficulties. But no, that’s not rewarding enough even though it’s basically guaranteed to get you a handful of T6 fine mats (unless you trash skip for days).

Okay, so Aetherpath seems like the best option to sate your desire, but suddenly you’re pulling out the “I don’t want to grind for high-end goods” card.

Logically, if you wanted something to be expensive/“rewarding” (in direct profits, not enjoyability), you’d have to make it hard to obtain, either through tons of grinding/gating or through low RNG. Aetherpath is just the right difficulty that it dissuades PUGs (even though it’s definitely do-able with randoms, as long as each person individually understands game mechanics, which can be a longshot). Because it’s not part of normal dungeon farm rotations (yeah, sure, your speed run guild runs it [not looking at your GrimmR, it’s just generalizing], but that doesn’t mean everyone does it), it does not end up getting lots of players in to counteract the low RNG, thus there is little supply and high demand (in the hunt to get decent, rare skins).

But nope, that’s not fun. You just want to run a dungeon that’s not only difficult (but easy enough to do without having to fail, of course) that also gives you great rewards money.

Think about this. Maybe it’s not the dungeons or the game that need improving. Maybe you’re looking at how you want to be rewarded wrong.

If the game was doing as well as many like to think, what was the point of megaserver and the NPE?

NPE is actually really, really great for the health of the game. There are some parts that still need tweaking cough traits cough, but it’s healthier for the survival since it eases players in better. The people who got hit from the NPE were people rushing to level 80 by skipping PvE content. Because Tomes of Knowledge and Scrolls of Experience aren’t a thing.

Megaservers have tons of advantages and disadvantages. They reduce overall server load, thus potentially cutting costs, while individually (each instance of a map) costs more (resources). However, players are now able to play with each more often (remember trying to level in level 30-60 zones where it was typically empty and seeing a passerby was a rare occurrence?) regardless of partying up.

There are disadvantages to both systems, and some problems that need to be ironed out, but if you expected everything to be perfect on release then I’d be using Windows 8 right now. (Wooo tangential velocity!)

As a PUG-runner/carry-er, Portal as a Mesmer does not help.

In most cases, a group that gets a portal (there are some that don’t need a portal, thankfully), it usually takes two-three tries to finally get everyone. Why? Because there’s that one (or two) person[s] that walks onto the glowy light, waits a moment, then the light disappears and they type: “I didn’t get portaled.”

Because me typing follow me and press F, followed by a nice notification on the screen saying: “F: Use Portal”, and a nice big, glowy light under their feet is not enough.

Also, some people think I’m Kasmeer and can use Blink-Portals. It makes it really, really annoying when I say: “Wait here while I portal you.” because they immediately follow me.

Lastly, even if the group knows what a portal is and how to use it, if you tell them: “Go to my waypoint and wait there.” followed by a ctrl+click of the waypoint nearest to my personal waypoint, they still stand where they are/follow you/wander around aimlessly, suiciding (and pulling trash to nearby allies).

I still haven’t gotten my soulbound gathering tools converted to accountbound.

You can upgrade your old soulbound gathering tools by un-equipping them into your inventory and then speaking to a Black Lion Weapons Specialist. He’ll have a new dialogue line which allows you to upgrade your old tools to account-bound for free. Source.

It’s not that I don’t know how, there’s no reason to and it doesn’t affect me in any way.

I’m not going to swap my gathering tools every time I switch characters (Eternal Alchemy knows how bad it is just swapping Ascended from my Mesmer to my Necromancer… and back).

I have a bank character with a bag full of 250 use Gathering Tools (and a bag of 250 use Basic Salvage Kits). My main character has Infinite Tools. All of my other characters (at level 80) hold 100/250 Use Gathering Tools, 1 250 use Basic Salvage Kit, and 1 Mystic Salvage Kit.

There’s no reason for me to utilize the account-bound aspect of them considering how easy it is to swap characters (but how hard/painful it is to swap gear).

No, I said it a thousand times no MMO can survive without a full expansion or full campaigns. The LS story philosophy is exactly what’s gonna kill this game unless we see regular expansion or mini expansions in the store. I figure something in the neighborhood of 10 zones every 6 months would do it. Anet was already doing more than what I suggest with half the stats in the GW 1 days.

GW 2: 25 zones, 5 cities in 5 years.
That’s 30 zones in sixty months,
or the equivalent of one full and finished map every 2 months.

Hybarf Tic has said it, praise be to all who have read his words!

On a more serious note:
While I would prefer expansion content (with the appropriate price tag), I do admit that Anet has released a good amount of content since release. It’s not the same amount as in GW1 with expansions, but they also spend a lot more time making smaller patches and fixing exploits relatively fast (unless it revolves around Warriors, teehee).

Just remember that the speed clear meta and optimal team composition are a niche of the pve.

I pug dungeons every day and nobody cares about the gear others are wearing nor the class they are playing.

The only exception are arah and very high level fractals, where gearcheck are often enforced.

Gearchecks are never typically enforced unless the groups are bad.

I do Arah and High Level Fractals daily (or at least, I have until very recently due to school and life kicking me out of parties).

In Arah, gearchecks are typically not enforced because you can tell who the problem child is inside a run based on what skills, weapons, and actions are done for each section of a dungeon.

In high level Fractals, you ask that everyone has the appropriate AR (45, 70, etc) and assume that everyone does. If you’re running in Fractal50 and someone does not have 70 AR, they will die almost every time they enter combat, and thus get kicked. In Fractal49 (and lower), it’s possible to survive without having the appropriate AR, which usually results in dying during bossfights if you miss a dodge. If you don’t have the appropriate AR, you will typically call out to not get revived.

If you’re doing extremely bad, you might get kicked (if you’re running in pseudo speed clear Arah or high level Fractal runs).

Since the April Feature Patch, all Sigils will stack except under the following cases:

2 of the same Sigil, regardless of Rarity/Type.

Example:
Superior Sigil of Fire + Major Sigil of Fire will not stack. I believe mainhand will proc and offhand will never proc (or if it does, it will be on a shared cooldown, unconfirmed).
Sigil of Fire + Sigil of Air will stack, regardless of the rarity used. The activation chances are calculated individually.

2 on-kill sigils that stack stats will not stack:

Example:
Sigil of Bloodlust and Sigil of Perception will not stack, the mainhand stacking weapon will be applied.
Sigil of Bloodlust and Sigil of Celerity will stack, you will gain one of both stacks per kill.

There are rogues and hunters in GW2 that aren’t NPCs?

If Ele and Mesmer aren’t your playstyle, you’re not going to enjoy Engineer.

If Warrior and Thief are not your playstyle, you’re not going to enjoy Ranger.

Ranger doesn’t really play like warrior and thief so don’t see the connection.

Rotation through weapon skills and using utility skills as buffers and assisting in gameplay as opposed to reactive in gameplay.

Warrior’s typically run through all the weapon skills with some staggering as necessary.
Thieves have rotations and use their weapon skills in a certain order, depending on the situation. With no innate cooldown, they have to think about their timing and plan ahead.

Rangers have to stagger their weapon skills and potentially plan ahead, especially when using melee weapons. When using Ranged weapons, spamming all the skills when off cooldown is a viable strategy, but it’s much, much better and more efficient to plan ahead and only use what is absolutely necessary at any given point.

Onto Utilities, you’ll have supporting utilities (Smoke Screen, Banners, Spirits), self-supporting utilities (Signets), and self-assisting utilities (Displacements, Condition Removals, Mitigations, etc). You won’t particularly have reactive utilities as a Ranger, bar Lightning Reflexes or Signet of Stone as direct damage mitigation.

I wouldn’t particularly use modern media (modern is a relative term) to distinguish what is and is not appropriate. A lot of it is meant to target audiences as opposed to being appropriate.

The idea of a femme fatale that’s both sexy and powerful coincides with the idea of a strong, independant black woman. It’s actually quite a sexist role that is being portrayed, but it’s overlooked which ends up helping to maintain these toxic ideals in society.

There was a video I saw that did a good job explaining how female roles portrayed in film media were not appropriate, even in films which most people would consider acceptable.

What settings are you on specifically?

Not all of the settings are GPU bound, some will rely on your CPU (and some may swap to CPU when on Ultra as opposed to Low/Med/High).

If you want to run the game faster, don’t use AMD or ATI.

I don’t have the particulars, but my friend who’s very, very knowledgeable about hardware interaction with software and enjoys playing with the settings has a lot of information about the topic. He always boils it down to: “Get a good CPU, don’t get ATI, and don’t put everything on the max.”

If you want reflects, use Mirror since it’s more reliable than Curtain.

If you want more condition removal, use Mantra of Resolve.

If you want to run Mirror Images, that’s fine but it’s a burst potential skill. Decoy is a defensive skill.

They have more challenging dungeons. People just don’t play them.

Aetherpath, Arah P4, FotM, and that place called Eternal Battlegrounds. They’re all challenging dungeons!

Also, to extend what DonQuack has said, most female warriors will tie down their breasts so they don’t get in the way.

Amazons, rumored to be the most powerful of all female warriors, would cut off at least one of their breasts to improve their archery.

But if we are going to go into practicality and reality, then offhand weapons will typically get in the way of fighting instead of improving it, particularly swords, axes, maces, torches, warhorns, and most focii. Shields will change the way you use your mainhand weapon, and daggers are typically used for quick parries or blocks, similar to gauntlets (which we don’t have).

Well, they’ve said that they would like to add new weapons eventually, so we may see it at some point. It certainly could lead to some new play styles for each profession that uses it.

They said they would like to improve weapon diversity and release new weapon variety by allowing professions to use different existing weapons.

Eventually, and this one is even more of a pipe dream, they would like to create new weapons, but that’s most likely not going to happen in the near future (1-2 years).
