With 2-3 points in Blood Magic, you can easily heal for around 1k off of the skill. Nice as a heal in between healing skill cooldowns.

Also, technically every profession except Necromancer, Ranger, and Warrior (unless you count SoS and EP) has access to invulnerability. (Yes, invulnerability and not stealth.) Although some professions get more of it than others (namely the two I listed in my list of damage mitigation).

How can thieves get invulnerability? I hope you did not count the invulnerability skill that thieves can steal in pve from pirates (since it is not available in WvW or spvp). If you include that every profession can get invulnerability since the elixir of heroes is always near pirates…

-snip-
Also, mitigation is done through different things. Guardian has access to aegis. Elementalist has cantrips and mobility for pure invulnerability or untargetability. Mesmer has a finger in evasion and another finger in stealth. Thief has stealth. Engineer has blocking and invulnerability, Warrior has high health pool along with cc to prevent themselves from getting hit. Endure Pain and Berserker Stance are also mitigation. Necromancers have Deathshroud and high health forms.

If everyone had equal access to endurance, should everyone not also have equal access to mobility, evasion, invulnerability, stealth, and blocks?

*And another person that mistakes stealth with invulneability…. *

I agree, people shouldn’t confuse stealth and invulnerability with each other.

Now, if you’re talking about me referring to the Drink, I was going off of access to pure Invulnerability as stated by the wiki. In my original post, which you called me out on initially, I had not even talked about Thieves utilizing it as one of their sources of damage mitigation for the reason that it’s not available in all access of play.

Also, Elixir of Heroes is a bundle and not an innate skill, otherwise everyone profession has pets, mortars, medi-packs, leaps, portals, portal leaps, stealth, easy swiftness, and more.

I think it’s moreso the fgs nerf that will bring me back if I’m ever on when they are. I’ve been getting home really late, after they do their runs and I think that won’t change next semester either. I also prefer doing dungeons they don’t include in their schedule, namely Arah and Fractals.

Guilds

Multiple guilds is like multiple girl/boyfriends.
You wont be commited to any of them when there’s four others.

The way I see it is no guild should require 100% rep. It’s not like multiple girl/boyfriends, it’s multiple friend [group]s. You hang out with them… when you want to hang out with them.

I see guilds saying that they’re “PvX” all the time. There is no such thing as a PvX guild. If you’re doing everything, you’re not doing anything at all, not as a guild and definitely not worthy enough to require someone to always be a part of your group.

My personal belief is that guilds should distinguish themselves similarly to the World Boss killing guilds or Dungeon running guilds or Temple farming guilds. They also should not require you to represent them and should be used (in conjunction with the Megaserver to soft-whitelist a slot for players) to help players when they want to do that part of the game.

For example, if I was in a PvE guild and I wanted to do Fractals, I’d represent the guild and ask if anyone is interested while I do something minute like crafting or soloing a camp in WvW (something that doesn’t make me sit there and whine until people will play with me). If I finished the Fractal, I could then swap over to my WvW guild and ask where they are and what they’re doing (maybe get on VOIP and just listen to where they are and then head over). Then when I’m done, I can swap to my PvP guild and get check out if any Arena teams need a fifth while I play some hotjoin.

That’s how you play PvX properly. It’s also how you utilize a 5 guild system without requiring 100% rep because it’s impossible for you, as a guild, to incorporate the entire game.

Now you can go ahead and argue that your guild does in fact do everything, but that’s not true. Some players do some parts, other players do other parts, and some players try to do everything. In the end, it gets split into factions and fractures itself into cliques, ruining the entire guild through drama.

Of course, my system isn’t perfect and doesn’t quite work without some loyalty (although you could do the best of both worlds and have a guild that’s 5 guilds with each being an emphasis on a different part of the game, which would truly be a 100% rep PvX guild… consisting of 5 guilds), but you should get the point by now.

100% rep is, and will always be, a ploy to force loyalty as opposed to earning it.

Esplen.3940

So, back to my original question since the two repliers answered nothing obviously not understanding the question, is there other ways for gaining armor other than buying or grinding mats to make it?

Well you said you’ve “gotten the meta gear” multiple times over the course of the games lifespan. I’ve “gotten the meta gear” multiple times over the course of the games lifespan as well. I’ve also gotten non-meta gear. The meta has not changed.

My first armorset was Knight/Soldier mix so I could survive in PvE and learn encounters. I progressed to Zerkers using dungeon tokens which cost me nothing except time (while also giving me money and materials). I then crafted and bought (again, using dungeon tokens) multiple armorsets including, but not limited to:

  • Valkyrie
  • Givers
  • Rabid
  • Rampagers
  • Magic Find (forgot which) currently sitting around as statless
  • Celestial
  • Berserkers again
  • Assassin ascended

Do note that these are all on the same character. The only “meta” gear on that character are the Berserker and Assassin, with the Celestial only barely being useful meta before the April patch. All gear except the Assassins is exotic and soulbound to that character. Most of the gear, if available, was gained through dungeon tokens and not bought or crafted (except Assassins, Celestial, and Giver’s for obvious reasons).

Now if your question isn’t answered by my obvious hinting of use dungeon tokens to not buy or craft gear, because you’re still “buying” the gear using “dungeon tokens”, then no answer will satisfy you other than being handed free gear because you misread the meta multiple times and keep going on hiatus.

There is no way of “earning” gear other than through currency (TP, WvW, Karma, Dungeon Tokens) or crafting unless you wish to grind for the off chance that you’ll loot the exact stat you’re looking for, also the right weight type for your profession.

If you’re trying to make a large and loud complaint so some support guy comes along and gives you a free level 100 Draenei Shaman 80 Norn Warrior decked out in full ascended Berserker because you’re a returning customer and they want you to stay, you’re not playing the right game.

Isn’t there an option for this already in options tab?

I also thought there was an option to use ground targeted skills automatically on your target, but apparently I was wrong.

There should be both…

Normal Cast (Click skill, then click skill or mouse again to cast).

Fast Cast (Click skill to cast, if ground target, will be cast on mouse).

Smart Cast (Click skill and hold. Upon release, will be cast on mouse. If skill is not held, will be cast on mouse).

There is, however, no way of toggling between these options or setting specific keybinds to do these actions (example: skill 4 on normal cast but skill 8 on fast cast). Just something to think about.

You can check out a PvE/WvW boon share interrupt build. It won’t be particularly viable versus bosses (either in dungeon or open world) but it’s a support build, so you’re able to assist your allies in nearly every scenario.

Additionally, since PvP has it’s own traits/gear/runes/sigils, you can set a build and just swap to it on the fly. The only thing to note is that you have to equip the appropriate weapons.

I have no idea where the boon-share interrupt build is, but it’s basically S/F + Staff. You can swap Focus for Torch to get a blast, but you lose out on some lots of Retaliation.

Every profession has its own strength and weaknesses.

Ofc it would be nice to make everything skillbased and have as few auto procs / condiremoves / condi applies as possible, but this would hit a lot of players out there, mostly the pve bobs – thus it will never gonna happen.

I apologize, Elementalist really does have a lot of access to invulneability stealth.

Didn’t want to cut your entire post down, but I also didn’t want to quote the entirety (even though I am responding to it as a whole).

The reason why, in my opinion, it won’t change anything after day 1 (or maybe weekend 1 because they are casual players) is because it still involves effort thinking about the market and all sorts of things. For players who are actively engaged in the market, these are normal day to day thoughts and can be done effortlessly.

The average gamer wants to min-max but doesn’t care enough to do so. That is to say they typically want to be the best they can, but won’t actively attempt to become just that. This idea extends to the trading post. Many players can sell items for maximum profit, most don’t care at all, which is why flippers exist. Then other players start getting mad at flippers stating that they own the market when it’s really just the lazy people being lazy.

Even if all the information is present, there are many, many players who will ignore it all and continue to do what they’ve done before, which is to say lose money for no reason.

Tl;dr: Casuals are casual and that won’t change the market unless the market stops being player controlled.

That build won’t work in PvE. If you’re talking about open world, it’s much more efficient (say if you’re zerging or tagging events/mobs) to reroll. If you’re talking about world bosses, it’s much more efficient to not use conditions and instead drop 3 Warlocks and camp Greatsword or Sword (depending on how close you can get). If you’re talking about Dungeons, please don’t make me strangle you.

Also, as a Mesmer, to be at your peak performance, you need to be able to [re]trait on the fly. If that’s not your cup of tea, you might want to stick to one game mode for now (WvW).

New elites : with passives

in Profession Balance

Esplen.3940

I feel like choosing between an elite and another utility should be an option. In GW1 elite skills were amazing because they were optional, and if you had one it was the centerpiece of your entire build.

In GW2 we are all forced to have an elite that is usually only situationally useful, if even that. I almost never use my elite skills anymore because they aren’t worth it.

If we could choose between utilities and elites then people could take a utility that has a more constant value to the build. Elites should only be a part of a build if they serve a large, impactful purpose to how said build is played.

And then I would never slot Time Warp and end up stronger than before, bwahahahahahahhahaa.

Wait, I don’t get what your point was? Are we referring to spoon collecting here? Or was that just a poor choice of words?

Spoon feeding is where you don’t have to know what you’re doing to get something.

Imagine if you went into a dungeon and there were arrows on the ground pointing you where to go, as soon as you got to a fight, everything slowed down until you used a skill, sped up until the skill was done casting, then slowed down again so you wouldn’t die. If you got hurt badly, the game would slow even more giving you time to dodge and heal.

That’s an example of spoon feeding.

Another such example is giving someone enough items to level up with after gaining a level without teaching them how to actually play.

I guess I’ll say this again, even though this has been my mentality about GW2 since the beginning:

The tutorial ends when you reach level 80. That’s when you start playing GW2, even though there’s no end game other than self-improvement.

I apologize if I sounded condescending, I had no intention and, re-reading my post, do not see it myself. However, since it was not my intent and everyone perceives things differently, I would like to point that I did not mean to do it.

In my first post, I didn’t really talk about Warriors except for a very notable example, with which you agreed. The second post, only the final thing (like the first post) talked about Warriors, again. The third post, however, did talk a significant amount about Warriors, which I will admit was a tangent, but helped me to figure out my point (sorry, my brain is a rollercoaster).

Essentially it boiled down to that last paragraph you wrote about shatters being selectable, versus my idea of the phantasms being on that bar as selectable instead.

Which was my original point, being that

Tl;dr: Can we get treatment on our Shatters similar to Warriors and Burst Skills? It actually makes sense, if you think about it…

Basically, what I’m asking for isn’t to make it a huge dps boost, but make it so that we have incentive to use our Shatters in more than two scenarios instead of just when a mob is about to die or as a panic button.

I suppose being able to pick your Phantasms as our mechanic would work, as well, but then that would kill Shatter builds. Wasn’t there that post earlier that talked about how to improve Mesmers and talked about the selectable Profession mechanics? It got a lot of heat and steam and then died.

Just like how Sword3 on Mesmer got changed for no reason other than the tooltip, causing Anet to have to fix it without reverting it because that would be admitting to their wrong?

I don’t know the whole story behind the mesmer sword, so I couldn’t say.

But the change didn’t completely shatter (pun intended) one of your meta builds in process, or leave you with a skill that is now totaly useless.

It left us with a skill that had very little of the intended effect. Since clones die within a glance from an opposing critter, if it actually manages to make the leap (and not do a stutter step slower than Agent Spire who hasn’t learned the concept of talking while walking, because when you’re in a rush, you should walk from point a to point b while stopping to tell people ahead of you to hurry up), a Mesmer is unable to utilize the swap/stun break meaning it can’t be held as a stun break.

Since the clone is most likely going to die if it succeeds, it’s only purpose is that of a telegraphed immobilize (there is no other immobilize in the game that’s telegraphed this much, bar Necromancer Dagger).

So yeah, saying that this skill isn’t entirely useless is like saying that the new FS isn’t entirely useless. I mean, you can still use that to apply Chill and it does still add a damage boost, it’s just nowhere near what it used to be, because it was clearly gamebreaking, amirite?

Feature:

The features of this patch were: Balance (notably bug fixing and getting things more inline with each other, but not on a large scale even though it took 6 months), and ease of access/QoL.

It’s amazing how many people are doing a lvl 38 fractal and have not a kitten clue how to fight mai trin. The shaman boss is a real kitten without any reflects or squishy classes that die the second the eles spawn and the amount of knockdowns in snowblind is just out of control.

I’d agree with all that. Even at 49 people just don’t know how to dodge/strafe the arrows from the fire shaman and that’s as basic as you can get.

I just maintain 100% reflect uptime on him and cry when he kills my Wardens with his swoopity or swoopibomb or swoopitack.

Yeah, many here in the forums thinks that Feature update = Content update, and that is a bit sad, but kinda understandable.

How is it understandable?

The majority of end-users consumers are stupid.

[Poll] New Changes Healthy for Mesmer Class?

in Mesmer

@ODB, our profession mechanic is shatters and illusions. As such, should we not be intended to use shatters in every fight? Is it their intent to make us use illusions in every fight?

Why, then, do we spawn things that deal a significant portion of our total dps while staying alive while our profession mechanic relies on destroying them?

If you don’t understand that, let me explain it to you: You can only make cakes, but you’re allergic to eggs. If you want to eat a cake, you have to work around the fact that you’re allergic to eggs. Why, then, are you only capable of making cakes?

If you still don’t understand…
Illusions don’t add to our dps. They account for a large portion of our dps.
Burst skills don’t add to Warrior DPS, they’re [supposed to] account for a large portion of their dps. (Bar Eviscerate, since someone will axe me about it.)

However, Warriors get a large damage bonus for not using their profession mechanic when they don’t, in most builds, need to use it to improve dps.

Mesmers, on the other hand, don’t get a large bonus for not using their profession mechanic when they don’t, in most builds, need to use it to improve dps.

In fact, both Mesmer and Warrior profession mechanics can and do hurt DPS outputs by activating them with builds (not all, but many).

In this feature patch, Warriors not using their profession mechanic was addressed by giving them more incentive to use it and by making persist less after a fight.

Mesmers have never had their profession mechanic persist after a fight and, in many builds, have no incentive to use it (bar Mind Wrack final burst, Distortion survival, keeping in mind each F skill reduces your overall DPS in most cases).

Mesmer profession mechanic acts like a Burst skill (funny because I’m comparing Mesmers to Warriors and therefore comparing Shatters to Burst skills, hahhh) in the fact that to use them at all is to provide burst, not sustained dps. There’s a reason why shatter isn’t usable in PvE and that’s because it’s not sustained dps. It’s high burst and moderate recharge as opposed to phantasm which is able to maintain the dps with a, roughly equal, moderate recharge charge.

In many, many builds, there’s no incentive to use our shatters, our illusions don’t persist from fight to fight, even if we stay in combat and traverse from group to group fighting nonstop, and we’re effectively not doing anything.

Warriors get a trait that improves damage for each bar of adrenalin not spent.
Mesmers get a trait that improves damage for each illusion alive.

Warriors profession mechanic attack is burst.
Mesmers profession mechanic attack is shatter.

Warriors do not need to do anything to maintain full adrenalin if they don’t use burst.
Mesmers need to constantly respawn and maintain illusions even if they don’t use shatter.

And we can go into further injustices such as Healing Signet, where Warriors get roughly the same HP/Sec as Signet of the Ether with absolutely no conditionals attached whereas Signet of the Ether requires 3 illusions up and pulses slowly, making it harder to maintain the heals.

The example was not meant to be using Warriors and Mesmers though Burst and Shatter are very similar, profession mechanic-wise. It was meant to say that we have Shatters that aren’t being used because they actively hurt our damage output. That’s not healthy (unless you’re doing shatter burst, may you succeed in your endeavors) for how Mesmer works. We’re harming our damage output to improve our damage output, and the costs don’t outweigh the gains.

Eventually, my point will boil down to (if we want to keep Shatter in the game, which we do) Shatter skills should be select-able because as they are, they are very pidgeonholed in their uses (bless your lovely soul, Distortion, I will love you even if we get to pick our shatters).

Also, 2000 dolyaks escorts would be fair if escorting a dolyak wasn’t so buggy.

Frost spirit ICD

in Profession Balance

While I do disagree with the addition of the ICD, it does make sense from a purely bug fixing standpoint.

As some other guy put it in another thread:

I suspect the original designer carried over the 35% chance and 10s ICD from the other spirits, then did the math I did above and found out the spirit basically does nothing. So he “fixed” it by removing the ICD, but didn’t document in the code why he removed it. A new programmer was probably assigned to fix old bugs, saw the ICD was disabled on FS, and re-enabled it without understanding the effect it would have.

Considering how terrible FS currently is, I think this is just as likely as the skill now working as intended. Especially since the “bug” was never touched upon when one of the devs mentioned FS in a PvE ranger guide. He specifically said that the FS granted about a 7% damage buff (https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Y8uGM1CGV8g#t=790).

Just like how Sword3 on Mesmer got changed for no reason other than the tooltip, causing Anet to have to fix it without reverting it because that would be admitting to their wrong?
