Traits for gaining endurance when using certain skills or skill types already exist in game.
On certain professions.
But how about equalizing it across the board?
You mean every profession except necro has access to endurance regen/vigor?
Also, mitigation is done through different things. Guardian has access to aegis. Elementalist has cantrips and mobility for pure invulnerability or untargetability. Mesmer has a finger in evasion and another finger in stealth. Thief has stealth. Engineer has blocking and invulnerability, Warrior has high health pool along with cc to prevent themselves from getting hit. Endure Pain and Berserker Stance are also mitigation. Necromancers have Deathshroud and high health forms.
If everyone had equal access to endurance, should everyone not also have equal access to mobility, evasion, invulnerability, stealth, and blocks?
Playing an asura mesmer - This only annoys me because it seems like the default choice of someone bored with their main class and wants to try something different.
But… Asura Mesmer is my main class. I didn’t pick it for the PvP advantage…
I pug dungeons and fractals anytime I do them (my speedrun group doesn’t really run Mesmer anymore and I have weird hours now). The runs are typically fine as long as I’m not in a tired/grouchy mood where I get mad at everything.
When I duo P1 or P2 of Arah, I sell the runs which takes time. No difference compared to running with 5 people and taking 1-2 hours to finish. The money is insignificant, since I don’t spend my money unless I really want something (which barely scratches my gold since I can always liquidate things). I usually hoard materials as opposed to sell them which is why I’m not worried about gold.
I’m surprised it’s not being spelled Zhaithan in this thread. shudders
I just completed my Daily Dodger achievement. Now I can tumble out of the way instead of stumble on my coat.
Seriously… I can’t think of any traditional Ranger or Thief who wears a trenchcoat. A cape/cloak sometimes, but not a trenchcoat. Seems reasonable for Engineers, perhaps, but I’m wracking my brain and can’t come up with any “traditional” Engineer figures in the world of fiction/fantasy.
But but but.. Neo in the matrix is clearly an Engineer/Thief because he’s dual wielding pistols and wearing a tranchcoat.
My signature has the reasoning as to why WvW achievements are impractical to get, for the most part. It’s not really updated, but it’s still relevant for all of the achievements listed (I think).
Yes, but it’s possible to get around that with skill management and skill.
I use Greatsword because it lets me survive. You’re a bad Mesmer and you’re not allowed to tell me that Greatsword is bad because I’m alive and you’re dead so I’m dealing more damage than you. iWave is a skill on my bar, it adds DPS so I should use it whenever possible. I swap to Staff and kite around while mobs aren’t aggroed onto me. This keeps the aggro off of me, as noted by my not taking any damage. If a mob is aggroed onto me, I’ll camp Greatsword and stand still waiting for iWave to get off cooldown, but I might hit the wrong skill and use Mind Stab instead. I like to shatter right as I summon a Phantasm, before it finishes it’s initial strike. I also like to CC bosses that have no Defiance because it interrupts them, even if they’re not casting a skill. I run Blink in every fight, don’t read chat, and drop Feedback and Time Warp when I want to, even if I see a Wall of Reflection/Feedback/Time Warp already up. I trait my Wardens at all times because they get stronker. I only use Wardens when the bosses don’t have projectiles because if they have projectiles, I need to be kiting with my Staff.
Mesmers can’t provide team support through boons or condition remove on allies. We’re a selfish class, so deal with it. You’re wrong because you’re dead.
Technically, Mesmers can get +30% Speed while out of and in combat.
Buuuut, it relies on AI. Getting the 30% out of combat requires abusing cliffs and staying within leash range of AI so they don’t explode.
Technically, Guardians can get +33% Swiftness with 100% uptime. It does, however, require them to stand still. I think that’s the problem.
I doubt we’ll see any changes after the first day week day.
Wait….is that….Link!?
Nah man, clearly it’s a gender-bent Zelda. Everyone knows Zelda is the hero of Hyrule.
And Zelda is pretty cool, he doesn’t wear tranchcoats.
learn some color theory.
Where can I do this?
Not even kidding, if there is such a thing I want to study it.
I kept my books when I was studying for my Graphic Design degree, you can simply look for books on various subjects like color or text in design, applying texture, color blending and optical illusion using color. It’s easy to just self teach yourself a lot of this stuff, but just knowing about the color wheel, complements, supplements, contrasts, etc is all you really need to know.
I have deuteranomaly, although it’s not too hard to figure out what colors synergize and clash. My largest problem is mixing the different “fabric types” because they dye so differently requiring me to pick colors that resemble another one. This is hard because I always get something that’s off due to my red-green deficiency.
1) Get a Job
2) ???
3) Get IRL Cash
4) Buy Gems> Convert to Gold
5) Profit
This is the fastest way to get gold. And if you truly, truly need gold, then this is your method.
However, you don’t actually need gold unless someone is pointing a gun at your head telling you that you need to give them gold otherwise you’re going to get shot. You simply want gold. Please distinguish the difference and change the title of this thread, thank you very much.
If you do have a gun pointed at your head and are typing on a forum, I apologize but will not retract my statement because you are on a forum while a gun is pointed at your head.
In endgame, high skill runs, Thieves don’t bring much to dungeons other than stealth (don’t underestimate this for skipping trash) and one of the highest dps’ in the game.
In casual runs, you can easily add in a venomshare build or stealth/blast healing.
For Ranger, endgame high skill runs, you want to bring Spotter and Frost Spirit to give allies 150 Precision and 7% damage boost (10% every 10 seconds on one attack after the feature patch if it gets the ICD added). Additionally, Ranger has a lot more “noob” builds, which is why they’re not particularly wanted in dungeons. They have an AI attached to them, and AI in this game is pretty darn horrible, especially considering how much access to AI there is.
For thieves, it’s hard to be bad unless you’re dead, because you have a low health pool and rely heavily on evasion as your damage mitigation.
There’s a lot larger of a supply than what’s in the TP. Always has been. Always will be (notably for an item that’s easily farmed).
Ok….discussing, then.
The OP states he’s level 51….I’m sure he would appreciate discussion that is relevant to that, not banter about PvP and WvW options…..just saying.
Combos are part of all gameplay, no matter your level (unless they prevent you from making combos until you unlock them, sarcasm).
Stating which Phantasms optimize damage output is also effective at all levels, in addition to talking about strategies which can be relevant and utilized at his level. He’s level 51, which means he has access to 4 trait points.
If he slots in Compounding Power, then my points relating to Compounding Power and Sword3 tricks are relevant.
If he slots in Sharper Images, then the choices of his Phantasms that he drops on enemies, notably for fights longer than 30 seconds, can make a bigger impact on his fights.
You might not have been able to read past all of the endgame content being discussed, but the points are still there, while using endgame examples to incorporate everyone.
Summation of our “argument”
Ignoring everything but clone generation, Sword3 works well with Compounding Power when combined with casting a Phantasm. Can mix in a shatter before casting Sword3 or finishing casting the Phantasm.
Sharper Images allows Duelists to out-dps Swordsman.
Berserker is more of a burst and not sustained dps. Particularly only useful for a cripple or if you want to fight from afar.
Warlock is the highest possible dps in the right conditions (get it, it requires around 8… conditions).
Warden has interesting combinations.
Utilize combos and effects of skills to produce devastating effects (arenanets words, not mine).
We’re not arguing at all I don’t think. Merely discussing strengths and potentially tactics/uses of various Mesmer skills.
Do note, it doesn’t take too much time. I was able to, in November of 2011, get from 3 points to 33 points in 30 days. I did, however, get lucky on Pink Day (Breast Cancer Awareness) winning multiple raffles which got me 2-3 points.
While conditions need a lot of improvement for group play in all modes of the game, they need a huge effectiveness reduction in the 1v1 department. lowering base condition damage significantly, while allowing them to crit and having those crits effected by ferocity would be a good start.
I’ll ask again: if there were a way to implement semi-permanent condi clears for a specific amount of time (ie, a condi clear skill prevents condis from being applied for x number of seconds – I’m thinking like 4 seconds or something), would that at all help or hinder the situation?
Yeah for the Berserker, I did try to note that it was a burst and not sustained DPS. Berserker is never better than Swordsman unless you’re cleaving or need the cripple/range.
Also, Warden is very, very useful for Condition clearing with no need to synergize with anything other than the weapon it comes on. Simply drop down a Warden and then put the Curtain on top of the Warden and watch as conditions disappear! Of course, this prevents the knockdown-Warden combo unless you’re doing it mid-fight while Wardens are already up.
As for the condition stack with Scepter Focus, I don’t particularly see that being nearly as useful as a typical Scepter/Pistol Staff build. IE getting fixed will improve Confusion on Pistol in addition to doubling your clone condition damage output (potentially kittens on one target now becomes 8). It also doesn’t require your target to stand still for 6 seconds, no offense.

And then to an actual pay to win game that caters not only to casual whales but also hardcore whales. Maplestory.
Sure, you might say that Maplestory isn’t a pay to win game, that you can get entirely to endgame without being “funded” (not entirely true, as long as we’re talking about GMS, and yes I have played on KMS where it isn’t pay to win).
The reason why Maplestory is pay to win is because after a certain point, to improve, you must spend real money. It is technically possible to improve through drops, however you’re relying on RNG drops that are intentionally low to the point of non-existent bar that one guy everyone is yelling at, to have a chance, just as low, of improving your items.
The reason why not all Maplestory official servers are pay to win is because in KMS (I have not played JMS or TMS or EMS or MSea, although I hear bad things about TMS, EMS and MSea) basically every event shop comes with these pay to win items, meaning it’s entirely possible to “create” a godly weapon over time. It’s not reliant on super low RNG (although it technically is, since you are still re-rolling your stats, but so are the people that pay real money) and it isn’t unreasonable to obtain.
And for the casual whales, they have “gem store outfits” which you can put on over you clothes to improve you visuals. There are some items that give stat advantage or gameplay advantages, such as pets who can loot, buff, and even use potions for you. However, they are also attainable ingame as drops. In KMS, the outfits are permanent (bar the ridiculously cheap sales which are about 1/10 of the price and last for 365 days). In GMS, the outfits last 3 months (last I checked) at the same price. Additionally GMS used to (still does, maybe?) have skill books that required you to use the gem-store equivalent to purchase them as certain classes, meaning that if you were playing those classes you could not progress your skills past a certain point, thereby creating a paywall. In KMS, the skill books were not implemented in the gem store and were released as boss drops.
Do note that KMS came out before GMS and is the furthest out of all Maplestory servers. It has also been the most fair of all Maplestory games, even though Nexon has a lot of sneaky schemes with the game. A LOT. I can keep going on about how Maplestory is bad (even KMS has bad, I just didn’t touch on it).
Tl;dr: GW2 is not P2W, not even with the Watchwork Mining Pick. I bought one and while I do admit that it is silly that it has an advantage over all other mining picks, it isn’t pay to win. If they change it, I will be fine, although I would like to ask for a refund because I bought it specifically for the fact that it has an advantage since I have a legacy Molten Pick. Just my few cents… or dollars, I guess..

- Upgrade Extractor this bad boy gets his own section. Why? Because he sucks. He’s not cost effective at all. If an upgrade and item are both worth >$4.75, then sure, use this. But there are very few items and upgrades that are both worth >$4.75 (looks at my Exotic Valkyrie Pearl Sword of Generosity, 2g item with a >75g upgrade. 75g is enough to make it worth it to use the Upgrade Extractor, but the actual weapon is worth 2g. Since the weapon isn’t a Karma/WvW weapon, I can use a Salvage Kit, therefore Black Lion is much more cost-effective. An example where this is useful is if you have a Superior Sigil of Generosity and an Ascended Weapon. However, even then you might be better off just making another Ascended Weapon unless you want to sell the Sigil.)
- Home Instance Node… don’t make me slap you. This thing sucks unless you’re a Human, Charr, or Norn. Also, you can just press B and get the same thing without spending $11.25
- Bank tabs, collectible expander, and inventory expansions do not turn into pay to win. You do not need them to succeed at the game. If you do, however, play the game seriously, they are good investments (to the point where at times you might think you need them), but they are not necessary in any way. You might have to change your playstyle if you don’t want to get them, but that’s a cost you have to deal with. Additionally, you can make personal bank guilds which contain 200 slots for 105g, which is less than $10 if you were to use that to make gems. Inversely, if you were to make a personal bank guild with gems to gold, it would cost you roughly $14.50 for 200 slots versus spending $10 for 30 slots. The difference is that one lets you use account bound things, the other doesn’t.
- Character slots are also not necessary to “win”. Additionally, these can be seen as inventory slots, which is more cost effective than getting a bank tab or inventory slot, potentially more (in some cases less) cost effective than getting a collectible expander, and definitely still less efficient than getting a personal guild bank.
Moving onto other games, let’s look at League of Legends.
This game is free to play, caters to whales, and still doesn’t implement pay to win. It’s entirely possible to obtain everything (bar aesthetic inclusions) for free through sheer dedication. It isn’t rng drops that are skipped through wallet tossing, but it is a slow process. However, paying for things does not inherently make you win and in most cases doesn’t do anything at all except allow you to enjoy variety at your own pace (instead of the weekly pool of free champions). If you are going to say that it’s possible but not plausible to obtain everything in League of Legends for free, I would like to disprove you and say I have every champion, 20 rune pages, and pretty much every rune I could possibly want and do not toss my wallet at the game. I did used to buy skins that I enjoyed and did splurge on a few of the champion release packs, but 95% of non-“gem store equivalent”-only items I have are attained through IP (aka ingame currency).
And no, I don’t play it that actively. And yes, I’m able to buy each new champion as they’re released even at their increased first week price.
post 1 of 3
While there are a few similarities to the F2P model, NOTHING in GW2 requires gems to play the game (ok, you can argue storage IS a must have).
As a player, I do not feel Anet has “crossed that line” the video discusses. I do NOT think the Devs have conversations about how to milk players of money rather than make a fun game. If you do not agree with THAT belief (you think Anet is intentionally doing everything they can to MAKE money with no regard for anything else), why are you still here?
(Note that last question was not directed at the OP, but every player that is posting in these doomsday threads).
Hate to break it to you, but of course the… “will this make money?” conversation with the devs (and the bean counters) happens … it has to, because the key to their business model is making money and the only way it tends to make money is if it is fun for us.. .. ANET/NCSoft aren’t in this for the charitable publicity.
But that said.. there is nothing wrong in what they are doing and I agree very little of what is available via the TP is actually needed to play the game, no one is forcing the OP or anyone to buy gems to get some new shiny fluff and the things that might be useful, like Storage can merely be earned in game with a little time and patience. So OP… I think you miss the point of how GW2 and traditional F2P models differ… many F2P models actually block your progress through their game content/features etc, etkittenil you buy an unlock or similar.. so let’s not even give them any ammunition.
Examples of popular games from different genres across a “similar” system (not really, but we’ll go with it because apparently b2p is f2p when it comes to this):
Guild Wars 2:
Money makes things easier to obtain what you want, but not what you need. In some cases it can give you an advantage, but never prevents you from doing something.
- Buying Home Nodes allows players easy access to nodes. Long term investment for hardcore players and nice, fun thing for casual players. RP’ers may opt to get these for an added “feel” to their Home Instance, although I doubt that’s the case.
- Unlimited Tools are all cheaper than their in-game brethren (bar 250 use Gathering and Salvage tools [talking about Dissassembler + other Lyns goods, not Mystic Kit] and Silver Fed Rip-Off O-Matic) but more than make up for that cost with a steep Gem price (originally $10, now $12.50). The only exception is Watchwork Mining Pick that offers Watchwork Sprockets. However, since it’s possible to obtain Watchwork Sprockets through other, non-gem store means (and it’s not unreasonable obtaining them), this is not Pay to Win (it is, however, close).
- Boosters do not make up a paywall entrance for this game. While boosters are convenient, particularly the Crafting and Gathering Boosters, they are also attainable free™ through ingame methods. The ingame acquisition, however, is so low that it would be considered p2w if these items were significant in progressing through the game.
- Transmutation Charges are in no way, form, shape, or method Pay to Win.
- Skins… see Tranny Charges.
- Finishers… see Skins.
- Consumables, such as Black Lion Kits, Revive Orbs, etc, are all convenience items. Revive Orbs can be used to maintain a boss fight (however, it does require coordination and awareness to pull it off), but is not necessary to complete the game. It does not make the game any easier, and does not give you an advantage over players without one (but I’m ALIVE, yeah, and you have 1000 HP while moving as slow as an NPC). Black Lion Kits and other consumables are attained through Daily and Monthly rewards in addition to Black Lion Chests, meaning they are easily acquired (moreso than Boosters, at that).
The security cameras in their HQ.
If they give it such a high cd they have to Buff the effect over the top, make it a physical damage proc which can crit.
So if it procs on a crit, it can crit again, effectively giving you squaring your critical damage on a 0.1 co-efficient.
Since the “meta” revolves around critting hard, you’re looking at around a 40% damage increase on the skill that activated the effect.
While most skills won’t utilize it to the best of it’s ability, imagine if you got that proc off a Maul?
Let me go cry in a corner now because I play Mesmer and we’re made up of lots of tiny hits (unless you count our Phantasms).
That’s the purpose a proc which is game changing when built around.
The only thing is that with a 35% chance to proc and a 10s ICD, there’s no reason to trait it and it’s literally “plug and play” (or, in this case “pick up and run”) because there’s no investment, no downside, no reason not to be running it.
The only downside I can possibly fathom is you aren’t running… Lightning Reflexes, which isn’t particularly necessary if a still AI can survive.
While I do disagree with the addition of the ICD, it does make sense from a purely bug fixing standpoint. After it’s fixed, they can take the time to figure out a Sword3 (referring to Mesmers again) update to make it relevant again. Hopefully you won’t have to wait until a feature patch.
I play Phantasm in PvE (well, more of the flavaflav 6/4/0/04 with tweaks as necessary), and the shatters I use are…
Mind Wrack as a finisher, when I know a mob is going to die, because it’s a significant burst/overall dps increase since it doesn’t hold any flaws when used right at the end of a battle (bar between battle cooldowns, but we’re not spamming it, so no big deal).
Diversion as an interrupt, now I usually have 2 interrupts through weapon skills and if I really need a third, I’ll slot MoDistraction, but Diversion is helpful for clearing Defiance on things like Dredge Fractal final boss fight, where nobody likes helping you clear Defiance and you’re effectively 1 man interrupting (and reducing Defiance) any time the oil misses. Also useful for things like Abomination fights (right before Lupi, not P2 boss) where the Illusions are dead meat, anyways (use this after you have chained all of your interrupts and make sure you press it right before you finish casting your 4th phantasm, followed immediately by sword3 → weapon swap phantasm to not lose dps from Compounding Power).
And obviously Distortion for panic. I actually like using Distortion versus Lupicus Phase 3 (because I suck at one shotting him, I blame it on people shoving him off the wall, qq) to allow me to stay on him while he’s leaping. Simply Distortion and wait for it to start blinking. As soon as it ends (that is, the moment before it ends) cast Blurred Frenzy. As soon as that ends, cast Riposte to prevent the knock-back (follow up with Sword 3 and a Phantasm to maintain Compounding Power).
Not sure this belongs here, but do note that Sword3 is instant cast and can be cast during a Phantasm spawn. I abuse this all the time vs Mai Trinn since I put myself on “Block and Port” duty. Spawn Swordsman vs Mai, as soon as cast starts, tab-target Horrik spawn Leap clone, tab-target back to Mai and proceed to do whatever you were doing. The reason why I spawn the clone on Horrik is so it distracts him (he might cast the cannon push), body blocks the explosive shot (not the one that reduces Mai charges) and survives longer than when chasing Mai (which helps with Signet of the Ether).
Whew, this was longer than I expected and full of tangents.
Tl;dr: Can we get treatment on our Shatters similar to Warriors and Burst Skills? It actually makes sense, if you think about it…
If they give it such a high cd they have to Buff the effect over the top, make it a physical damage proc which can crit.
So if it procs on a crit, it can crit again, effectively giving you squaring your critical damage on a 0.1 co-efficient.

Not 100% sure, if they were obtainable without gems but i think so. During Wintersday, you could also buy BL Keys with Captains Council commendations.
Which was promptly removed because Lyns was effectively paying you money.
I had a hoard of Commendations for Lyns and used them in round 2 to get 250 use Kits which I still have. I can never go back to 15/25 use Kits. Shudders
I also have 250 use Gathering Tools, not that I ever use those. Yet my main has infinite tools, so… go figure. The only 250 use I use is Mystic Salvage Kit.
Assuming you’re soloing or your party has no access to bleeds (aka doesn’t override your bleeds), it’s possible for 3x Duelist to outdps Swordsman.
Reasoning? Sharper Images. With 3 Duelists, assuming 1 of them isn’t attacking at the same time as the other two (aka you can have 2 synced, although it’s preferable to have them staggered similar to Wardens but not necessary), you can easily maintain 21-24 stacks of Bleeding with the standard A/R armorset. This gives you an additional 1,000 dps assuming no condition damage bonuses are applied other than through traits (200 from Illusions).
With Phantasmal Haste, the total time of one attack cycle (attack + delay) is 6.6s for Duelist and 4s for Swordsman.
Assuming no Bloodlust is being applied, the Duelist will hit for around 4-5k and the Swordsman will hit for around 3-5k. I assumed both were dealing 5k damage over one attack cycle. Swordsman will add up to 1 stack of Bleeding whereas Duelist will add up to 8 stacks.
The bleeding from Sharper Images will last for 6.5s or roughly around when the Duelist starts attacking again (or allowing the Swordsman to maintain 1.5 stacks each).
Roughly, the Duelists 21-24 stacks of Bleeding will maintain an additional dps of 1,000.
Roughly, the Swordsmans 4.5 stacks of Bleeding will maintain 175-200 dps.
This is not easily tested/shown in the Mists due to stat limitations (you’re not going to be hitting 90+% crit chance in the Mists on a Mesmer solo).
If you’re going purely to improve your Duelists, running Precision Food and Nourishment will help greatly, boosting Critical Chance to just under 100%. If you choose to run Slaying Food instead, you’ll lose up to 7% Critical Chance depending on how strong the Nourishment you run is.
Note: By Nourishment, I mean Potions. That’s just how I refer to them.
While I do love running Offhand Sword (for the Block and Line Daze, since it’s more controlled than Magic Bullet), the Phantasm isn’t always the go-to Phantasm for top-dps. Between Warlock when the enemy has Conditions, Duelist when the enemy has no Bleeds, Berserker when the enemy is against a wall (actually, this is a burst, not sustained dps), Swordsman isn’t the best.
Tl;dr: If nobody is applying Bleeds, running 3 Duelists in a sustained battle may net you more dps in addition to getting Projectile Finishes.
Also, 2 Wardens can maintain an average of 18 stacks of Bleed peaking at 24 depending on how they’re synced/staggered. 3 staggered Wardens will maintain 25 stacks of Bleed.
Witches Hat and Wizards Hat as Halloween (2012?) rewards.
Polla.
The Wizards Hat and Polla were 0 gems and the Witches Hat was obtained from participating in the Mad King Says event (or maybe the other way around..?)
its not about the cashshop is bad its is about EVERYTHING they release is only cashshop
Yeah.. except the fact that it isn’t.
We got multiple new skins released in-game. Champion box weapons and Ascended sets for one.We also have gotten loads of new stuff overall that have nothing at all to do with the cash shop, such as new maps, new events, new dungeon, new systems and so on.
champion box weapons 1 year ago, ascended armor (UGLY!) 9 months ago, fossil weapons a few months ago….that’s it – now how many armor sets and RNG chest weapon sets have been added to the store? about 5x as many. This is the issue…it should be 75% IN GAME, 25% in store – yet is is the opposite. I should also mention that 95% of all good looking medium armor for females is from the store unless you are a norn or human…then it’s 80%. I think what upsets me the most is the only armor sets that have been added in game in TWO YEARS have been the hideous ascended sets… oh, unless you tPvP in the official tourney’s which many people don’t.
its not about the cashshop is bad its is about EVERYTHING they release is only cashshop

I still remember this scavenger hunt and how fun it was, but I seem to have misplaced my Mad Memoires copy due to lack of inventory space and prefering the higher stats on the upgraded version…
Would it be possible to unlock the Mad Memoires skin in the wardrobe of anyone that has the Mad Memoires: Complete Edition unlocked, since the first step was a requirement to get the upgraded version?
Or present a way to reaquire the skin if it was “misplaced”?Yes it is called emailing support…
I did that a few weeks ago, they told me to suggest it on the forums…. yay
Wat…?
I mean, if you did/do get it back I’d like to know because the same thing happened to me, buuuuuut…
Wat…?
Now you know how us Mesmarz feel about the Sword3 “fixes”.
Pats Rangers on shoulder we’ll get through this…
Not to sound too naggy, but the ranger just got dumped in the far bottom tier for dungeons (even with the buffs it will recieve in the feature pack), and the frost spirit just teamed up with Search and Rescue for being one of the most useless skills in the game. The mesmer sword is, to say the least, usable in comparison..
If we’re going to talk about utility skills, keep in mind Mesmers have skills like Mimic, Illusion of LIfe, and basically every Signet (bar Ether) which all have very, very niche uses and rarely bring something helpful to the table (worth a utility slot).
This is talking about Mimic both before and after the patch.
Actually the point in the video about making the player be excited about the purchase rings very true in this game. Why do we buy skins? It’s because we like the look. Gathering and salvage tools? Because we like the convenience.
The game has no paywalls. So I don’t understand why people think the cash shop in this game is so bad.
Most of the complaints seem to be from the notion of how it’s getting more difficult to not pay for an item from the cash shop with cash.
Edit: Sorry, got interrupted when I was first penning this post.

Try it in the mists. I would, but my Warrior doesn’t have it unlocked I don’t think.
Sounds like you want things like Underworld, Sublimato.
Man I sure I am glad I bought the mini karka some time ago, who knows how many will be left now with people account binding them…
I’m probably one of them, hate the idea of wasting 1.7k gold but my collection :’(
Now Anet please bring back Foostivoo!!!
Somehow i fear that the Trading 2.0 blog post tomorrow might make items that are unobtainable right now (minis, recipes, skins etc.) available through npcs for a combination of gold/account bound currencies.
Laurels + Gold fixes everything. Time gate and gold sink.
I hope they include the timegated ascended materials. I’ve been hoarding them for awhile
How about not and you just delete them, same effect, right?
Actually, 2 days ago, the unthinkable happened to me, i ran out of bloodstone dust, while crafting mawdrey, while i still have 20-30 fragments and shards refined. I had to go EotM and farm that stuff, i guess I shouldnt have crafted those toxic nourishment every once in a while.
I deleted all my bloodstone dust, and then decided to start working on Mawdrey.
See you in EotM, then!
I’ll be there on the 9th (or maybe later, since school is starting) on my level 2 Guardian who will be a Edgemander!
So excited to use my book of doritos. Not sure why I haven’t done it yet.
The reason why a level 80 player is stronger than any player of a lower level is assuming they’re in BiS gear (or at least exotics of the same level). This is because at other zones, you don’t have access to tri-stat gear, giving you an advantage. Additionally the rarity difference adds a few stats here and there.
These add up and tip the scales.
Also food. Lots of food. And skills… and traits… and… runes… and sigils… :/
Did I mention both Warden and IE have been “fixed” numerous times, in addition to being “fixed” last Feature Pack? Oh, and they weren’t actually previewed on the Skill Bar, go figure.
Ignoring the fact that Anet has a bad track record when it comes to Mesmer… no, I can’t ignore that. They didn’t preview it, which means it doesn’t work unless you (cough they) can prove otherwise.
Defiant Stance is a niche heal with a niche usability. It’s working as intended.
If you want to address that heal skill, then you’re also going to want to address
Skelk Venom
Signet of Restoration
Signet of the Ether
Well of Blood
Signet of Vampirism
Now, all of these healing skills, including defiant stance, are used in GW2. They’re not used regularly (bar SotE), but they’re used. They all have advantages and shortcomings, and that’s the whole point of having variety. Not everything is supposed to be as good as the next thing. They’re supposed to be good at specific things.
Also, in regards to getting a longer duration, grab Sure-Footed to have 3.75s of health gain.
The whole point of Healing Skills having cast times is so players know what you’re using. If you didn’t have to cast, well… there’s no counterplay.
“Oh that Warrior is charging his kill-shot. Let me wait a minute. Okay, he’s done casting- DEFIANCE STANCE, ty for full heal” That’s intuitive play on the Warrior’s stance, which is more fitting with… Thief or Mesmer who play reactionary games.
However, in regards to your OP/topic. If stances are like that, they should add minute effects based on the stance and replace burst skills.
Might be because he is a programmer, not an actor.
He’s still also a Warrior player on the balance team. #stereotypes
Not all heal skills are used for hp/s. If they were, people wouldn’t run Healing Signet.
Why are you talking about stances and balanced stances? I’m talking about Lich Form.
The way the OP was comparing it to stances and your initial reply made me think you were talking about stances, =p
since running away is not a counter to litch then neither is it an acceptable counter to stances/ immunity’s that do not lower damage/block you from heals/or take away utilities and/or skills.
so to be fair please give stances/ immune skills with 0 drawbacks a 1 second cast time with a big glowing animation so we at least have some counter play to them thank you.
alternatively make them reduce damage/condi duration by a % maybe it increases as your health gets lower so you can’t die with it on but you cant literally stop people being able to do anything while its up
that or at least give litch its 30 second duration for gods sake…. it has been over nerfed
That’s all I could understand. Not trying to be mean or anything but what are you trying to tell me?
The last sentence says you want Lich Form to be buffed so I guess you think it will be UP after the nerf.
What I think the rest of your post means:
- you can’t use utility skills while in Lich Form
-> give Lich Form some utility skills with a 1 sec CT and an obvious animation
-> alternatively reduced damage + condition duration which gets better the lower your health isI hope that’s what you’re saying.
Here are my thoughts about Lich Form:
- it has too much burst potential atm
-> nerf the damage (which they will do in the next patch)
- I don’t understand why they nerf the 30 sec duration either since most necros don’t stay in Lich Form until it ends
-> completely agree with you here:)
Probably because people can steal or copy the 30s of Stab, which shouldn’t really happen.
Gotta be careful of dem Mimic Mesmers… sigh
Level 40 or lower jewel.
I liked it until the end.
Longer duration on a no cast heal skill. Yehp, seems fair.
I feel like a lot of the problems are actually with management and not the devs. I’d hope that the devs love the game and want to do their best to improve it, but I could be wrong…
I don’t like Karl, either.
Bring me John Smith and have him give economy lectures.
Assuming that they didn’t increase the CD to compensate?
They also increased the dps significantly while also making it harder to avoid the shots (sidestepping will be harder due to projectile velocity increase).
