There is no such thing as a “Finished” MMO.

That goes without saying, but usually it comes in the form of expansion and improving what you already have! This is more like reworking! finishing the release

Fixed.

Yakslapper was, like what; if you kill a yak every 5 minutes, non-stop, it would still take you 4 years?

—Yakslapping—

Starting with Yakslapper, let’s see how long it will take you to finish it.
Assuming you’re in a side borderlands where you don’t own 2-3 camps and towers/keeps, it’s possible to kill up to 6 Dolyaks every 5 minutes, but I’m going to go with a reasonable route of 3 per 5 minutes (this is easily done by going to the top left of the borderlands, and just killing the 2 Dolyaks out of the western camp, and the 1 Dolyak out of the northern camp).

You have 1,000,000 Dolyaks to kill, and every 5 minutes (how long they respawn, I won’t count the time it takes them, or you, to move, so they die as soon as they spawn) you kill 3.

3kills / 5minutes = 0.6 kills/minute
(0.6kills/min) * 60minutes = 36 kills/hour
36 kills/hour * 8hours (one day) = 288 kills/day
(1,000,000 kills) / (288 kills/day) = 3472.222… days required.

Now, I know some of you are going to be saying, “WELL I CAN KILL 6 DOLYAKS EVERY RESPAWN” (because it is possible by going through the bottom of a borderland and hitting all 6 at every interval, it’s just very risky and highly unlikely), so, you simply double the speed at which you kill, making it…
(1,000,000 kills) / (2 * 288 kills/day) = 1736.111… days required.

Either way, 3472.222 days is the equivalent of a little over 9.5 years.
1736.111 days is a little over 4.75 years.

This means that to get either of this specific achievement, you must be working non-stop (as if it were a real job, 8 hours a day) for 5-10 years. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE DAYS OFF, MEANING YOU WORK 365.25 DAYS A YEAR.

Click my name at the top of the quote for the full preview of all the unreasonable WvW achievements.

EDIT:

For the math on 24/7 yakslappin’, you get:
36/h * 24h/d = 864/d
1,000,000 / 864 = 1157.4 days
1157.4 days / 365 = ~3 years straight.

Of course, this is assuming you’re killing 3 dolyaks every 5 minutes with no travel time. If you’re a warrior/thief/engie/ele with no opposition, you might be able to halve that by rotating through the bottom three camps.

Of course, 27,777.77 hours of uncontested yakslapping is reasonable, is it not? (13,888.88 for 6 kills/ 5 minutes).

I am going to show this in every discussion I have with White Knight Anet kitten kissing Vayne.

Thank you, you are my hero.

I laughed. You realize that Vayne holds GW2 in the highest regard only because s/he loves the game and understands both the shortcomings and successes of GW2/Arenanet, right?

It’s the whole reason why Vayne is always playing the devil’s advocate and white knight role at the same time.

And yes, I know that GW2 is going to crash and burn if Arenanet keeps rolling down the path they’re on, but that doesn’t make me love the game and company any less. It just doesn’t make me love them any more. I’m going to say what I’ve told myself since the luster of launch left me: GW2 has a ton of potential. I’m just waiting for Arenanet to bring out the diamond that it can be.

I had high hopes for week 3...

DC restarts don’t exist. The instance is held open for 15 minutes if the instance owner leaves (not the party), disconnects, logs off, or fatally errors.

Within that time, if the instance owner gets back and into the instance, it is refreshed and held until his timely withdrawl (again).

The only time an instance will close on you is if:
Instance owner leaves party.
Instance owner is kicked.
Instance owner kicks only party member (or vice versa, see above).
Instance owner is out of instance for 15 minutes.
Instance owner changes characters.

During any of that time, assuming the instance owner does not do one of the aforementioned do not do things, the instance owner is free to enter another instance, go to WvW, relog, log out, close the game, and more.

After the change, if the instance owner is the only person in the dungeon and disconnects, he must start over from the beginning.

So yes, the dungeon changes are great. But they also forget about a small community.

I just asked friends if they had the recipes unlocked then provided them the mats and had them craft it for me (assuming they weren’t making Mawdrey themselves). At the end, I had 3 other people crafting for me, on weird schedules (1 person one day, 2 people the next day), in addition to my own crafting.

As such, I did all of the “time-gate” in less than 14 days (even though it takes ~21 days of time-gate because of 7×3 food and 10×2 Charged Quartz).

Heck, I even told one of my friends I’d craft him the Glow Lamps as long as he provided everything but the Quartz because I have so many from the node (I don’t even charge my Quartz, I just strike the node and get around 1 Charged per week).

S/S + S/F because Focus utility is so good even with borked Wardens.
Usually camp Focus, depending on the fight. Will swap to any combination of S/S S/F S/P GS depending on dungeon/fight (example: S/S + S/P for Risen Abomination in Arah, S/T + S/F for Jotun because Blind + non-intrusive dps is nice, GS is good when you need reliable range, see: bad groups at Lupi [although I tend to melee unless people who are bad follow me in and give him grubs and shove him off wall]).
For fractals, I add in Sc/P and Staff to the mix.

Torch used for running, alongside Traveler runes. Else, camp Assassins + Ranger runes.

I think the main problem for this, in Anet’s eyes, was where to store the information. They absolutely love storing everything server-side so you can play on any computer and have the same results (bar graphics). Note: Results is interchangeable with settings.

However, their problem was that what if someone decided they wanted 59 builds? 294 builds? 3000 builds?

Of course, this is easily remedied by a, literal, hard-cap as to how many builds you can have saved server-side (think Favorites, like in Dyes. Only your Favorites are stored on the server and you can have up to, say, 8 templates stored).

Additionally, with the current implementation of traits, it’s extremely simple to store the traits. A very visual, hexadecimal example of a trait setup would be:

[src] (Look at the traits tab)

64004:36b243a
Kudos to my friend Dotco for being a code-enthusiast and telling me this as soon as he saw the new traits.

Layman version:
64004 = 6/4/0/0/4
36b243a = III, VI, XI, II, IV, III, X in that order, meaning…
6 = III, VI, XI
4 = II, IV
0 = 0
0 = 0
4 = III, X

If you replace anything with a 0, it will be blank (wildcard). If you try to input something silly like
66666:123456789abcd1234567890… etc
you will get the traits:
662000:1230450

Relatively simple to implement and only taking up 12bytes per template.

How are you getting that range indicator, or is it an AHK?

Look up gw2dps, it’s on my github.

Any reason why it doesn’t work on MSVS2013x64? I’m using it for school because it’s a lot nicer than 2010 whilst 2012 is a nightmare. If it’s just project settings, I can try updating that in my spare time, but I’m not sure since I don’t know if I want to setup my laptop when I go home (YES I PLAY GW2 ON A LAPDESKTOP) since I’m going to be working fulltime this entire week.

Also, have you considered including an XML or Txt file to save the keybindings to allow users to change them before runtime? It’s a nice QoL, and can even extend to writing a smaller side-applet to change the keys with a GUI for those less… code-savvy who won’t be able to look up keybinds on the interwebternets.

Clone Death Changes are a Terrible Idea

Funny how it always comes back around to DE in the end. They really need to make it baseline. Sure there are a couple of “viable” builds that don’t use it, but I can’t think of another profession that is more pigeon holed into a trait than Mes with DE.

Except it makes it impossible to roll in a phantasm build/pve.

If they make it so that it doesn’t override, then they might as well remove clone death.

Also, I don’t want to spawn clones while avoiding things in PvE. I hate going in combat more than I need to while moving from point a to point b. If I’m in the mood to kill everything I see, fine, but I don’t always want to do that.

I’m also curious about celestial after the patch, simply because the rampager/celestial-type stat spread does gain in relative strength with the buffs to condi appliance, while being on weapons that still benefit from power as well. There is also a fair few ways to gain regeneration.

Will be fun to play around with anyway.

Healing Power sucks so much that you’re better off running none of it and still having within 10-20% other than Regeneration.

With Regeneration, you have to invest a lot as a Mesmer to boost it up. Even then, it’s still not a very useful strategy because of all the things you sacrifice. You’re better off just running a boonshare Disruption build or solo carrying a group.

I like how most people saying Mesmers are in the top 3 blatantly ignore the fact that PU and clone death got nerfed in addition to IE and Warden not being showcased as fixed (yes, stated, but that doesn’t really mean much when they’ve both been “fixed” in more than a few patches, INCLUDING THE LAST FEATURE PACK).

Sure, Torment is sweet, but if you have all 3 Scepter clones out and are spamming Scepter 1, you’re applying Torment and not much else. With Scepter you’re most likely going to be applying Torment and Confusion, with bleeds off of illusions, meaning that you only have access to 3 conditions (4 if you count a long cd blind). As soon as you weapon swap or spawn another phantasm/illusion, you no longer have the “omglolop4sceptertorments” going on.

It’s really not THAT strong. If IE is fixed, that’s a much, much, much bigger buff than the Torment addition will ever be.

IE vs Torment:
Each clone can add bleed on crit (assuming Sharper Images).
1 Staff Clone will apply:
Up to 2 stacks of bleed and 2 stacks of (pick one) vuln/bleed/burn to a single target. (May apply half to secondary target or apply boons to ally.)
1 Scepter Clone will apply:
Up to 1 stack of bleed and torment to a single target.

Hmmmm… HMMM… HMMMMMMM… I wonder which one is blatantly stronger than the other.

I don’t see how Asura look child-like at all (human childlike) bar their height.

So naturally i instantly went online and testet it for myself – and you’re spot on with your observations.

I went to queensdale with my little engi, which has – due to traits – exactly 1500 range on her grenade skills; targeted the second practise-dummy to the right, and walked backwards until i was at the limit of being out-of-range, making a screenshot to mark the position. Why can't we sell ascended weapon items?

in Crafting

Posted by: Esplen.3940

Esplen.3940

That does seem like a bizarre inconsistency. (Then again, we have had things like dungeon sigils being tradable while dungeon runes aren’t for years now.)

Because of reasons*.

*Probably not very good ones, or ones John Smith cannot discuss…

To force players to get 500 in a craft, get Laurels, and also partake in activities to get the Vision Crystals.

Other than that, everything is purchaseable.

If you could buy Ascended directly… well, I’m not an economist, so I can’t really analyze how the market would differ, but I think you can see where I went (getting to 500 means you require more materials, means more product fluidity and more people purchasing low tier mats, if only to level past the early stages).

It’s not about the process being account-bound, it’s about requiring you to jump through hoops to finish the process. Selling the “T7” mats allows the market to stay fluid, gives more incentive to getting to 450/500 Crafts and create a daily craft in addition to other time-gates, such as Daily Home Nodes, Charged Quartz, Dailies, and more.

In case you didn’t understand my wording, I’ll rewrite it:
By making the materials account-bound, people have reasons to get crafts to 450 or 500 to craft these time-gated materials. Almost always, these materials will be profitable only because they’re time-gated.

If the weapons/armors were trade-able, there would be more of a rush to craft Ascended at all times, but it would prevent Arenanet from forcing players to get Dragonite, Empyreal, and Bloodstone, which is basically a way to force you to play multiple aspects of the game (namely Temples, World Bosses, Keeps, or PvP). It would also allow players to not have to get crafts to 450/500, making the market of lower tier items stay stagnant and dead (although they’re alive right now, I wonder why).

If you check out Mawdrey, you need 4 crafts at 400, and 1 (of 3 possible) craft at 500. Some of these items are Account Bound (namely the 500 one) and some are Soul Bound (everything else), but if you want to craft it at will (and cheaper by a large margin), you will be rewarded for having these crafts maxed. In some cases, you can even save the money you spend on buying the item to max the craft and use the rest to craft the item. The only thing you’re paying extra, in this case, is time due to time-gating.

I myself got rid of my mesmer to take a real support profession : guard.
Guess what ? I am 100 times better at support…have 100 time more sustain…and deal much more damage (at least on big fights)

This is funny because it’s on the big fights (where your Phantasms don’t die) that Mesmers will outshine a Guardian, especially when it’s not in a 5 man group, so having the defensive sharing that Guardian has is really sub-optimal. Take any World Boss (except Taquito and Bear Claw). You can pretty much just drop 3 Warlocks and camp GS or Sword. That’s pretty much guaranteed 5k dps before counting your auto attacks, assuming you aren’t traited for Phantasm DPS. (Appropriate downleveling is necessary, but it’s still possible to have Warlocks hit numbers like 1-2k on Shadow Behemoth).

Additionally, with all 3 Phantasms alive, Mesmer DPS jumps to be pretty high, among the Ele/Thief range. Of course, since it’s not… “plug and play” dps, it’s why we’re pretty useless (one of the lowest dps unless the conditions are right). When doing trash clears/runs, Mesmer has little AoE (Sword Cleave only on 2 skills, all other AoE attacks on ridiculous cooldowns, bar Beam attacks) and relatively high cooldowns.

Back on topic, though, I doubt this will be addressed… Woooo… another hotfix that will never be addressed. Prove me wrong, Anet, I dare you to.

in Mesmer

It should be a duration skill so it actually feels a bit more distinct to Arcane Thievery. So maybe for 6 seconds you get a copy of any boon that your target had on activation of Mimic and also any boon your target receives for the duration of Mimic. Your target is visibly marked to provide some counterplay to this. If you might stack whilst marked, you might stack for the enemy Mesmer too. If you steal from a Mesmer that marked you and consume plasma whilst marked, you give the Mesmer all those boons too.

Mesmer v Mesmer:

Mesmer uses Mimic.
Mesmer uses Mimic.
Mesmer gains boon.
Boon gets applied infinitely to both parties.

There are still other words to use than exciting and excited.

Examples:

“We’ll be using the September 2014 Feature Pack to bring some engaging changes to the megaserver system!”
“We’re pleased to announce some updates to commander tags!”
“The September 2014 Feature Pack is on its way, and we’re extremely enthusiastic about the balance changes it will bring!”
“The September 2014 Feature Pack is bringing exclusive additions to PvP!”

Note for the middle two, it’s THEIR opinion, so it’s fine for it to be exciting, however I changed them for the sake of this posts purpose.

The first and last ones are both more appropriate and not forcing an opinion onto the reader.

Just because something can be exciting doesn’t mean it will. If you’re excited, you can say that, but you shouldn’t say that “it’s an exciting thing that’s going to happen” just because you’re excited.
