Is this a coordinated group or a PUG?
Eh, ele either way I guess.
Because of ethics. Lol.
But srsly, kicking should be something mandated by certain criteria. Not a freedom you can exercise at whim. From your point of view people shouldn’t be kicked for any reason because freedom to everybody!
Bottom line is the whole point of personalised lfg message is to convey one’s requirements for said run.
When two opposite things clash(i.e. freedom) the one that trumps the other is the one with either higher personal/collective benefit or the more ethical one.
tl;dr don’t be a kitten, don’t kick (unless they don’t respect your lfg post)
Haha, I like your reply.
Just remember not everybody is as caring as some people. I don’t know you. You could be an 80 year old granny behind the computer or a 14 year old punk kid, or any mix inbetween. If you join my party, and we haven’t entered the dungeon yet, I have absolutely no obligation of anything to you. I could kick you because you’re a char, because I don’t like your armor, because the color you chose is stupid.
If we’re talking about kicking midway through a run or right at the end boss, then that’s a different issue.
2014 is going to be an amazing year for GW2 and the community!
Chris
Didn’t we hear that about 2013 and all we got was Scarlet did everything and an ascended gear grind.
Yes. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Do I have to keep posting the disclaimer or are you guys going to conveniently ignore it?
•“As always, the content above is subject to change as we test and iterate on these systems.” *
That doesn’t really make it okay.
Why can’t THIS be the issue we have? It’s the face that they say all these things are coming, but then say they might, and they don’t. What’s the point of discussing them, when more often then not, it doesn’t happen.
Although my post was removed, I made some valid points about the overall feel the company gives off through posts, actions, and comments made which just makes the playerbase/customer feel let down. This whole “Here are a bunch of things we’re going to do in 2013” that don’t happen feels like just another item on the list. Not to mention the players repeatedly defending them with “Well, they didn’t give an actual deadline, and they said it was subject to change” is just sad.
2014 is going to be an amazing year for GW2 and the community!
Chris
Prove it. :o
The above is subject to change =)
@ Hjorje, that was a much better post. So thanks for actually replying with some content.
The blog was entitled “Looking Ahead: Guild Wars 2 in 2013” Which leads the reader into believing those are the plans for 2013, AKA finished by 2014. There was even a dev post where they said they meant to have that all done by 2014, but some things, most notably the precursor hunt, would not make it on time.
They almost never put timelines on the things they say, and that is irritating enough. I think it’s perfectly valid to be upset by this, and also to be displeased that something isn’t done when we are lead to believe it will be done.
Also, do not blame me for your misinterpretation. I inferred exactly what I wanted to infer.
So it seems we have to decide whether it’s worth the extra XP and risk. :\
Every single consumable grants +10% XP from kills.
That’s actually another error. It’s +10XP, not % (even though it says %)
Also, I guess nothing substantial has occured in two months.
Maybe we’ll have fractals leaderboards in 2014. That’s why my level was reset. Right? Right?
With the once advertised fractal weapon boxes too!
Don’t get crazy. One promise at a time… I mean… one subject to discuss the intention of the devs that may or may not happen, which are always subject to change, at a time.
Maybe we’ll have fractals leaderboards in 2014. That’s why my level was reset. Right? Right?
PvP: 5v5 or 8v8. The gameplay is mostly conquest. You get points for capturing and holding the points, along with few points for killing and side objects. The first team to 500 wins the round. Your character is automatically leveled to 80, you have all your skills, and everybody has access to the same sigils/stats/runes etc. (Aka, it’s all about player skill, build, and team coordination)
WvW: Server vs Server vs Server. 3 servers go up against each other for a week over 4 different, very large, full sized maps. It’s kinda like conquest, but on a much larger scale. You capture and defend camps, towers, keeps along with building siege equipment like rams, trebuchets, even walking golems.
As for the class, mesmer and thief are pretty similar. They are both about confusing your enemey, avoiding attacks, stealthing to lose aggro, etc.
Guardians are the complete opposite. I think both would work well together.
In a small fight the guardian would hold focus and protect the thief, while the thief tried to get some sneaky attacks in.
Or you could team up as a mesmer and you guys would just use invis + clones to really confuse your opponents.
Edit: The only real point of a server is WvW. You can PvE and PvP with anybody you want on the EU side through guesting. However, you can only represent your home server in WvW.
I don’t think it ended up being 5% on armor. I’m in a full set of ascended and it really doesn’t feel at all different. My food on/off is more noticeable.
I wouldn’t expect 5% to feel significant. I mean that’s half of a superior sigil of night, assuming you’re running full zerkers.
How could standing in one spot mashing some buttons be skill? :P
Doesn’t every computer game boil down to mashing buttons?
Healing isn’t useful in this game (in PvE). The main strategy is damage avoidance. I think you would want guardian for this, as the closest thing you can do to healing (that’s beneficial) is give aegis (which blocks the next incoming attack) before a big one hit kill.
In WvW, most zergs use water fields to blast (AOE healing) and PvP you’d want a bunker build. Most likely an engineer, guardian (or possibly ele) that can stay alive in 1vXs and help heal teammates on mid-point.
So for WvW you’d suggest a guardian? Is it fun? I saw lots of posts that it was boring.
Also, WvW is PvP isn’kitten How is this a PvE game then? Other than the leveling up.
Also – what’s a Zerg? And is the Mesmer useful for WvW at all?
I think guardian is fantastic in WvW. I have all professions, and I think guardian is probably the most boring in PvE (just my opinion) but a blast in WvW. You would pretty much play as a front line control machine. Pushing your way into their zerg and trying to mess up the people in the back line, or stopping them from moving through you guys.
A zerg is a term stolen mainly from starcraft. In Gw2, it refers to a blob of players in wvw (usually 15+ people). Zergs are the main force in WvW maps, usually led by a commander. Then there are small roaming groups or havoc squads that are meant to hit side objectives or distract.
There are 3 main parts of the game. PvE, WvW, and PvP. Wvw does include players killing players, but anet actually considers it PvE. When Anet makes balancing differentiations between PvP an PvE, WvW is grouped with PvE.
A mesmer is very useful for WvW. Portal bombing used to be all the rave, but not so much anymore. This is when a mesmer would drop his portal, then invis up to the enemies, drop the other side, and the full zerg would come rushing out from an advantage point.
They are still very useful for veil (which you would drop infront of your group, and your whole zerg would turn invisible for a couple of seconds), nullfield, feedback, blinds, confusion.
Edit: Another useful thing for mesmers, is that they can get inside keeps/towers. SMC, Garrisons, and keeps have two walls. Many times, a zerg might get through outer, but get wiped at inner. A mesmer could hide inside while the team WPs and comes back. After outer is repaired, the mesmer can drop portal and bring his friends back in.

NO.
Adding more filler content before upgrading existing content should always be frowned upon.
I disagree. I would love this content.
As of right now they continue to work on babbling scarlet instead of giving meaningful content OR fixing existing content.
I think that numbers popping up when you hit the thief would work well. However, I don’t think seeing bleed ticks would be fair.
Right now, stealthed thieves are over powered.
One single thief can stay perma stealthed at a WP and continually hit the gate, so it stays contested. It’s got to be incredibly boring, but in borderland maps (or even SMC) that is a HUGE advantage.
It would also take roughly 10 people (unorganized PUGs) or more to track him down and kill him. Just so he can immediately WP and come back before the WP even becomes uncontested.
Unless a thief is largely outnumbered, or bad, they can easily stealth and reset the fight.
“Ergo, when there is a disparity between the manifesto and reality,”
It appears so based on this wording, yes.
“When” being the important word. I’m not saying there is a disparity, just explaining the reasons behind a disparity.
So you’re explaining a potential reason behind a disparity that doesn’t exist? This certainly wasn’t clear and gives the wrong impression.
I got his point, clearly.

Fotm has it’s own category for dailies. Also, it is not included in hobby dungeon master.
It is also not listed in the dungoen section for LFG
By that reckoning FotM isn’t a dungeon. Did I post in the wrong section?oh snap
Yes. All fotm related talk should have been in the living story fractured update, which has since been closed. So no more conversations about fotm!
For the most part they not given any time tables for there things your talking about. At the rate ppl are “making up time table” as you are they will never give us any more time when things will be ready. So thank you for pushing Anet into more back room time tables.
Does it matter if everything is subject to change anyway?
Normal dungeons? Are we talking lore here? I guess I’m just trying to distinguish WHY exactly. Hoping it’s not a case of “because we say so”.
Because they say so.
My guess is because it’s build differently than the other dungeons.
Fotm has it’s own category for dailies. Also, it is not included in hobby dungeon master.

people that were kicked seem to consistently portray themselves in an innocent light
Your right. People should make more posts about how they totally deserved to get kicked so that we can all sympathise. Wait! What?
I got kicked once because I told this mesmer she had no clue how to melee Lupi and she was putting down horrible feedbacks.
Oh wait, that didn’t happen, I just left party. I’m a jerk in parties to people who don’t listen and I STILL haven’t gotten kicked.
You guys are getting caught up on the word “promise”. It boils down to the developers, imo, making a string of statements that they don’t live up to.
^Semantics.
Indeed
First of all, they were not “advertising” anything. They were talking about what they wanted to do this year. They didn’t guaranty anything. That is your mistake for construing it as such.
Lol, nice write-up. Was this for a class assignment or purely for our enjoyment?
As much as I hate dredge, I prefer dredge to cliffside. My group seems to always fail the hands, no matter what strategy we use, then they don’t reset like the devs said they would.
A full expansion for free?
Edit: No srsly, now they have me curious. Meh, we’ll see what the year brings, it’s only just begun after all..
But the thing that many GW2 fail to realize is that we already get that. It’s called Living Story :P
It’s just that Living Story gives you new content every 2 weeks while an expansion you need to wait more than a year to get content all at once.
I’m thinking we get to see some new maps brought back to life from the original GW. Maybe we will get to go to the Crystal Desert after all and deal with the dragon there ;S
Except content isn’t removed in ‘real’ expansions.
INB4 yes, few parts were permanent. Not the point.
If a company advertises that a product will do something, and it does not, they are liable to the claim. Just because they didn’t say “I pinky promise this will cure your flu” doesn’t meant they aren’t held accountable for what they advertise.
First of all, they were not “advertising” anything. They were talking about what they wanted to do this year. They didn’t guaranty anything. That is your mistake for construing it as such.
Secondly, this is an artistic endeavor. They are creating content. Development and implementation of artistic creations are held to different standards and guidelines.
It’s not my day job, but I am a musician and arrange and write music for choirs and orchestras. When someone commissions me to write something original, I give them an approximate time it will be done. It isn’t always done by the time they wish they could have it. Some things take longer than you think they will.
Same thing applies here. They are creating original content. Sometimes it will take longer than they think it will. And they are dealing with many mediums here not just one like I do.
They are dealing with, artwork, music, dialog/acting, written content, and computer programming. Getting all of these things coordinated and implemented timely will never be easy or exact for them.
EDIT: Vol and Morrigan: +1 to you both.
If you take too long, or you just scrap it, you don’t get any money correct?
One issue is they already got their money through sales
The other issue is that they earn profits from gems. I know that I will not spend any more money on gems to this company, unless they turn it around.
You guys are getting caught up on the word “promise”. It boils down to the developers, imo, making a string of statements that they don’t live up to.
To expand a bit on what krall said,
There are two different types. Ascended and Infused.
Ascended items (such as armor, trinkets, weapons) have a slot for you to put the +5 AR (the infusion you get from the fotm merchant).
Infused items are ascended items that have been ‘upgraded’. This new infusion slot you can socket the upgradable AR (agian, like Krall said) the ones where you can combine two +1s to get a +2, two +2s to get a +3, etc.
Staff is one of Guardian’s most diversified support weapons. The skills obviously indicate it is a support weapon and should not be used to combat bosses or single target enemies. When I’m PUG’ing AC or TA I find the staff to be very useful. I expect the Guardian to do stuff like pulling spiders, pulling bosses and destroying poison plants, etc. I’m not expecting for any damage to come from Staff although the empower is somewhat of a consolation.
- Skill 1: Auto-attack is good for fights against big groups of scattered enemies or pull aggro from multiple enemies (such as AC Path 2 graveling defense)
- Skill 2: Easy to pull bosses from long-distance to a stack corner (Kohler)
- Skill 3: Swiftness, to get across risky trash (AC Path 1 end)
- Skill 4: Empower, buffing team before switching to main-hand (don’t forget it also heals the party for a significant amount)
- Skill 5: Blocking trash
So staff is for the guardian mob pulling meta build?
I think it’s the vendor over by the stairs. Once you port into the heart of the mists, head to your left immediately. There’s a crumbling tower/stairs to walk up.
Warrior is the easiest to do high DPS. It’s a standard rotation.
Elementalist have arguably the highest DPS in PvE, but takes more set-up/coordination.
Thieves have very good single target damage.
PvE: Rangers mostly (Necros get some hate)
PvP: Warriors or engis
WvW: Thieves!
I think Warrior would fit best, but I think engineer would also fit. The only thing missing with engineer is the ability to use a lot of weapons. They can only use pistol, shield, and rifle (however they have kit swapping which acts as a new weapon).
All races fit all professions, it’s up to you which you think would look best.
IMO, for the majority of content, the perfect group comp would be:
1- Mesmer
1- Elementalist
1- Guardian
2- Warriors
Depending on the situation, mesmer could be changed to another guardian or warrior.
So, one of those…
Yes, shame on you customer for wanting to know what to expect in the future. How dare you expect them to live up to advertisements they make. Could you imagine a world where we held people accountable for things they say? It would be toxic madness!
The problem is mostly that any comment made by the devs in any context is automatically jumped on as being a “promise”, something that is instantly “owed” to the player base and where any failure to meet that expectation is automatically written off as the devs being malicious, lazy and/or incompetent.
If a company advertises that a product will do something, and it does not, they are liable to the claim. Just because they didn’t say “I pinky promise this will cure your flu” doesn’t meant they aren’t held accountable for what they advertise.\
Not really, but lets be honest, it’s free to play, no sub. Maybe we should be glad they added anything at all, even if it was living story crap and a gear grind.
Or maybe the company should be glad it still has customers.
I think the game just needs mobs with a smarter AI. In GW1 if a mob was taking too much AoE damage they’d stay out of the AoE, I think this game needs some kind of mechanic where if a mob is standing in a dangerous area, it’ll just move back and use ranged attacks.
I could get behind this if that mob didn’t have defiant/unshakable. We could put our CC skills to use like chill/immobilize.
They’d also have to work around certain LOS limitations.
Light, cure condition with projectile, or retaliation with blast. the projectile finisher would actually be more useful in PVE. so points for that one
…
So we agree that blast finishers are primary a melee mechanic which is most effective while stacking. Blast finishers as i have shown are generally more helpful than projectile finishers.
I would like to point out that a guardian running GS could simply whirl to do the same. So even though the projectile would be better than blast, whirl (stacking melee) would be best.
Talking to folks in Chat over the weekend… shouldn’t Legendaries be the ones not sellable on the Trading Post? They’re the supposedly truly rare, almost unique, items that arguably no one would want to part with. Ascended, on the other hand, just feels like Exotics spiked with Grind, shaken, not stirred
Yes, but a lot of people buy gems to get money for their legendaries…. so there’s that.
Sigh… It’s this thread again.
You are the very reason that drives developers into not giving out any more info than what it necessary. If for one reason or another they can’t deliver that you jump on them like a pack of rabid wolves demanding them to deliver.
Sometimes things don’t go as planned, deal with it.
Yes, shame on you customer for wanting to know what to expect in the future. How dare you expect them to live up to advertisements they make. Could you imagine a world where we held people accountable for things they say? It would be toxic madness!
That’s a very good point, lead by example.
You know very well how much it feels like talking to a brick wall though when telling Pugs, casuals etc that they should be zerkers. Most of the guardians I speak to in game who were fotm70+ before the patch and are now 50 consider me incorrect and bad for running zerker. Do you honestly feel that’s a war of advice you’ll ever win? Wishful thinking but I suspect there may never come a time when good, well built players of all classes are plentiful.
Running full zerker in any situation will only make you a better player. Yes it’s frustrating when I’m the only zerker (especially as a mesmer), but I wear it as a badge of honor when the shout healing warror or staff camping guard die and I’m left to finish off the boss.
Also, a lot of players in here know exactly what it’s like talking to a brick wall. And that’s not directed at you =)
(edited by Ethics.4519)
….. they said knowing the boss mechanics helped immensely.
Imagine that… Knowledge is power.
Right, people think that stacking is the only strategy (like OP) who don’t realize that it matters what you do in the stack. If you have a ranger that puts down his healing skill before the eles fire field, the fight will be much, much worse.
This post fits perfectly with the mentality that the current system has bred.
Exactly, there is no need to spread out now.
Also, combo fields encourage ranged play as well with projectile/blast finishers, pet/illusion finishers, etc, so that is moot.
Also, if it wasn’t clear, I’m not arguing for strict ranged combat…just to change the current system that rewards skilless play.
Nobody cares about projectile finishers. Actually more blast finishers can be done in melee (stacking) than ranged (spreading out). What’s the point of an AOE blast finisher when you’re the only one in the field? I haven’t heard of pet/illusion finishers, so that is moot.
The current system does need to be changed. However, not in this way. Many instances stacking makes it harder, but shorter if done correctly.
If you would have taken the time to look into other threads before spewing out the same comments, you can see most people complain that their PUGs stack and then wipe, like on AC spider boss.
Another good example is CoE p1. I was teaching new players in the guild how to do the alpha. Once they all died and I was soloing him, I had them watch the boss mechanics and explained his attacks, telling them to dodge on this one or side step on this one. Next fight was flawless and they said knowing the boss mechanics helped immensely.
I don’t call it defeat when grouping with play-how-you-like style players because many of us have friends who got that category or even sit in casual guilds..
Absolutely you’re right that staff guard and bear bow would be laughed out of a good organised group.. But it’s not difficult to figure out whether or not you’re in that sort of group beforehand and build accordingly.
If I sat down and attempted to form a high quality group and ended up with bads then yes that would be defeat.. And I would be a kitten to show up with a staff support guard or bearbow.
But for every day pug/bad/friend/guildy roulette? Staff Guardian does just fine imo.
Yes, it does fine. Depending on your definition of fine.
Tbh I advertise for no rangers, necros, or thieves. I like engis.
That’s really all I have to say on this haha
This is exactly the attention this thread needs. Post your current favorite elitest LFG messages!
Yes, lets tell people they have no right to tell people how to play as we tell them they have to let us play with them.
Tbh I advertise for no rangers, necros, or thieves. I like engis.
That’s really all I have to say on this haha
Haha, says a woman asking for best necro dungeon build ;-)
What’s your issue with thieves? I just make sure they aren’t camping sbow.
Not really a fair comparison. Bow bear brings nothing decent in exchange for the loss in Dps. I’m arguing the loss in Dps with a boon dura/cleric staff guard isn’t as horrible as you might think, and brings a huge amount of mitigation and healing to a group who may not otherwise be able to remain alive.
It’s all about tradeoffs and whether you think they are worth it.
I still maintain the view that zerker for organised groups is the best way forward, but I think well used staff guards are getting a lot of criticism which should instead be aimed at pvt AH staff guards.
But if you go as a staff/cleric guard you are already admitting defeat, by assuming your party will be bads with play how you want builds.
If your PUGs are actually running zerk and coordinated, you become the BHB that gets made fun of.
In a group where this build would benefit the group, as you argue, nobody would notice. In a group where you wouldn’t use this build, people would notice you’re running it.
Another one of these… Fun!
1) You can advertise your own party. If this is how you want to fight, then DO IT!
2) If you are asking the dungeon community, I must say you will not like your responses.
3) If you’re asking the devs, you’re wasting your time
4) You’re mainly just wasting your time either way.
1) Delete Character
2) Roll something useful.Jk jk… but seriously
Lolololol u so funnnnnnnyyyy
Anyway, thanks Spoj!
Since he’s playing, does that mean you don’t have to sneak on anymore?
… demonstrate that I don’t think staff support is completely useless. …
A bearbow ranger isn’t completey useless with his 3K DPS. But what’s the point?
