Did you even kill liadri? Berserker was the best gear for killing her. Anet makes it very obvious they berserker is superior to all other stats in PvE.
Yep, berserker was not the best for Liadri. P/D condi was the best and almost noone used berserker for doing the achievement with 8 orbs.
P/d wasn’t the best, shortbow was much better, or s/d which was better than both but very hard to use. And berserker is the optimal gear in all party situations, if you can’t run it in a pug then your doing it wrong.
Yea right, I didn’t see any vids with shortbow or s/d doing it in a timely manner. I actually only found 1 vid doing it with full zerk stats and shortbow and the time was even slower than mine. P/D was obviously the best for liadri with something like 70% of all people using it and the only vid on doing the 8 orb achieve was with P/D.

Anything is viable in Pve imo.. I’ll run anything at least once.
PvE elitists are pretty funny, optimizing their specs for top damage which is fine but then they claim it’s the only thing that’s viable when pretty much anything is viable in lol PvE.
There was that 1 LS where berserker stat helps but considering there isn’t a time limit on any content, you don’t need full “berserker” to be viable.
There needs to be more hard content in PvE like liadri where full berserker isn’t automatically the best choice.
What they actually broke is S/D.
S/P will still be fine in PvE at least. The buff to pistol whip will help a bit, and it was always the more defensive set of the 2 sword sets so the extreme nerf to SR won’t hit it as hard.
S/D got no buffs, hit by a bunch of nerfs, it’s probably dead now. I saw sizer using it 2 days ago in Solo Q but he wasn’t doing too well with it.
I tested after the hotfix yesterday, it’s still an issue.

I hope it gets fixed or reverted either way. It doesn’t make too much sense to me. Dev claim to want to “increase thief mobility” yet we lose more of it with every patch whether through actual nerfs or stealth nerfs.
I played around with hard to catch some yesterday.
It’s a pretty fun ability. I don’t really have a good idea how it works yet, but it hasn’t killed me yet.
It almost killed me once I was in SR and I got disabled and got revealed from that. But I managed to outrun all of them with shortbow…
I want to play around with pain response today and decide. Because really, I think hard to catch may be necessary with what they did to shadow return.
It was a strength because it was overpowered, the only difference is now you can actually be pinned down with CC and have to use a stunbreaker, like everyone else. No other class has a pseudo-stunbreaker that is attached to a gap closer + immobilize that you can combo a few hits off then get out.
no other class has a passive heal that heals for 400 HPS…
no other class has clones that can do heavy damage
no other class dies in 3 hits like teef
I also do roll right after the shadow step. I’m not sure why I do it, but I think it’s to cancel out landing animation so at least it feels faster and invinci frame at landing spot is a cool bonus. I also get swiftness from dodging so it flows really well.
Anyways, can’t do it anymore. This nerf really sucks, the worst part is it’s not even in the patch notes. Infusion of shadow buff initiative increase buff is in the patch notes even though it’s not really a real buff.

Doesn’t work because I kept my build pretty much to myself and it got nerfed anyways, probably because I killed or escaped exactly 1 Anet staff member in one single occasion in WvWvW and made him angry. Then a skill no one uses was nerfed.
So if you like something, not only do you need to keep it secret but you have to not use it at all.

Stats are wonderful things. Did you know that 90% of all road accidents involving a pedestrian happen on the pavement? So logically, to reduce the risk of being run over, pedestrians should walk in the road. (Some people I know from college genuinely could not find fault with this argument. I don’t want to be offensive or a kitten but only bad players reroll into another class, because they feel their main class is “bad” or it is not good anymore.
Good players can adapt to anything, bad ones can only whine.

i’m a bit confused, is this the one where before if you used attacks that didn’t do any damage it didn’t put you into combat, but now it does?

And pistol whip was definately part of some gimmicky builds near the beginning of the game. ie frenzy pistol whip before frenzy and PW were both nerfed
If you play s/d you basically have to take hard to catch now, even though how terrible it is. And I would still take pain response in the grandmaster slot because it heals just as much if not more than assassin’s reward by removing condi’s.

Anyways, I use S/P but the “gimmick” is that black powder doesn’t work too well against people who just move out of it, and pistol whip is a stationary skill so once again rely on people to stay still for you.
This boost is much needed, and hopefully I can land some hits with PW now.

Really? Gosh! If only just one thief somewhere had mentioned how flat of a change and a cap on high crit thieves this was, you might have been expecting it.
I know I said on day 1 this was at best break-even, but not a buff when Crovax first questioned me on this.
At that time I hadn’t run any sort of theorycrafting at all. It’s fairly obvious to any power thieves how significant opportunist nerf is.
Even the devs said it’s not a buff when you use opportunist – and every non-condi thief uses it.
I think they should delete shadow return and come up with something new. I don’t use it anymore…
Or is it still better than the alternatives?

“Cheese build” = A build someone else can’t beat but that they don’t run themselves.
It’s summarized perfectly in a sig I saw somewhere:
“Dear Arenanet: Please nerf rock, it’s too powerful. Paper is okay. — Thanks, Scissors.”
cheese build is just something that takes really low skill to run for exceptional effectiveness. It makes other more fair builds seem bad because you have to try harder to do as well on those fair builds.
I do run cheese build myself (kinda, it’s not super cheese but still cheese) but I want to see them go away because it hurts the pvp scene overall.
You dont know much about the thief obviously^ D/p is extremely strong after this buff. Like I said, its only a nerf for the low class shadow arts d/p thieves.

-S/D acrobatics thief
After Dec.10 patch:
-D/P trickery thief
Now if you see a thief, you know he’s using D/P and is glass cannon. Besides with mesmer buff and shift to bunker meta thief is dead.
This patch is a lot of things, but a buff it’s not.
lets put it this way. im AA’ing and AA’ing and AA’ing then OMG i see FIRESTORM AOE on ground QUICK QUICK press disabling shot! i press it 4 – 5 times before it responds and im hit after about that many clicks. if im able to click disabling shot 4-5 times (prolly much more if i really mash) i should have been able to evade. its not a player end problem where im not reacting fast enough…. but ask MAUGETARR said…. evasive skills/attacks/utilies should ALWAYS interupt skills or atleast cut the aftercast off.
look at shadow strike. theres plenty of times when i play p/d and i use a sneak attack and then im like uh oh theres 5 players on my kitten so i decide to shadow strike after about 25% thru the channel of sneak attack and it interupts and teleports me back so i can bounce outta that heat.
i would like disabling shot to work like this. it rewards good reaction/skill play.
shadow strike doesn’t have a cast time, disabling shot does. shadow return is about to become like disabling shot.
What: Cloak n’ dagger
Why: It can give you almost perma stealth if you connect all of them. This is CLEARLY way too op.
Solution: Make CND give 3s torment on top of the vulnerability it already gives and remove the stealth.
As compensation for this nerf, move “hard to catch” from master tier to adept tier. This will make thief sooo much harder to kill so it is not only a big deal, it’s a MASSSIIIIVE buff.

venom share needs 900 range. and even then I still won’t use this POS heal. SoM 4 life.
So the honest truth is that I’m still playing my mesmer and thief, neither of which is close to being OP — at least at my skill level.
But I occasionally come across a player who can just camp a spot and basically is impossible to remove from it. Usually a necro or engineer. And, well, that seems like it would be fun to do sometimes also.
I’m really getting quite fed up with trying to play ‘normal’ characters when all I face are swarms of minions, warriors that never stop stunning me, guardians that can’t be touched, etc.
mesmer is countered by condi, especially AoE condi so necro and engi counter makes sense. it doesn’t make them OP just based on that, but necro would be OP in this meta if it wasn’t for warrior.
P/D is just low damage troll build so it makes sense it can’t remove any bunker types.
If you can’t remove a class from a point, then move to next point.

They’re also ruining sword. The only reason for most people to play it was the fact that they could teleport a lot. From 10th of december you’ll see thieves using Infiltrator’s Strike – getting stun-locked and unable to use Shadow Return. In other words, they’ll appear and be insta-killed. W2G ANet.
