it’s easy to kite D/D thief….

on my S/D thief i kite D/D thief all day on shortbow lmao. when you get stoned stunbreak and dodge roll you should be able to dodge their whole burst. yes it was op when basilisk venom applied this hidden CC that you can’t stun break out of, but that’s no longer the case. i basically have to be no paying attention if their whole burst hits me (and doesn’t 1 shot me either)

A S/D and SB spec can kite anything You’ve got spammable gap openers and closers, and one of them comes with a cripple.

yea but at least other classes can sustain that damage like warrior w/ healing signet or other classes have ranged options that is more powerful which forces you to go melee. D/D thief has neither so its boned.

This tower brought back this dungeon feel from guild wars 1. Really loved it.

The instance at the end was great too. I soloed it twice, it was slightly harder with the 2 NPCs but the difficulty was just right. I couldn’t afford to stay in the same spot and just simply spam the same skill over and over.

After that, I tried doing it in a group, it was a touch harder due to the scaling but the challenge was still there.

Then I tried to climb my way to the third floor again, and I find that is harder than the solo instance at the end. I rage quit for whatever reason but I like that there is finally some challenge in the game now ever since queen’s gauntlet.

I still see the only real problem as shadow refuge. Next update thieves are gonna have a much harder if not impossible time trying to perma stealth. Short duration stealths are fine. Perma stealth and 15 second long shadow refuge stealth is not. Shadow refuge is like a 99.99% get out of jail free card every minute. Seriously the times I have killed a thief who used SR or the times I have died on my thief after using SR is like 1 out of 1000 times. Nearly every single thief in the game uses this utility its op face it.

SR is decent but 99.99% is super exaggeration or all you do is roaming. If you engage in ZvZ you’ll know the zerg > all. Even SR can’t save you from that.

PvE – in a poor position, about to be nerfed again. can be decent for high level fractals though due to utility of black powder and access to group stealth for skipping mobs.

WvW – in a poor position, about to be nerfed again. perma stealth is one of the better builds for roaming right now. about to be nerfed into uselessness though.

GvG – always been bad

ZvZ – always been bad

PvP – S/D is actually one of the better builds right now, but about to be heavily nerfed into uselessness.

Outlook: cloudy with a chance of blizzard.

Warrior is good at all of those modes (ANET golden child and most played class), and guardian is good at all those modes too except for roaming. ANET bias is very obvious. Right now you play a thief if you like its gameplay or you want a challenge.

Even the most hardcore of thieves ie. Jumper will play a different class (likely warrior, most thieves are rerolling/have already rerolled a warrior) after Dec.10 path in tPvP.

(Yes, it is “doom and gloom”, but it’s also true. the truth is saddening.)

I’ll figure out something when that nerf comes. If all else fails, you can always fight fire with fire. aka reroll dat warrior, hey it would be an upgrade.

if they stun u then you can do one of three things.

shadow step away. And reset

steal on the warrior and dodge roll as this breaks the stun.

Use infiltrators signet on the warrior and then dodge roll, u have to be fast.

it’s nice that you remain optimistic but can’t blame me for being cynical since we get nerfed every patch with no buff in sight.

I guess, coming from other classes, to thief, I see thing wayyyyy differently still, even though I main thief now.

I dont use the trait. The flat ini change is a buff for me.

even if you don’t use it, it’s still a nerf to stealth since it’s considered one of the best traits to stealth. If no one used that trait then you could argue it’s inconsequential but it’s widely used.

What you’re saying is basically like me claiming warrior didn’t get nerfed since I didn’t use unsuspecting foe or hammer. Just because I didn’t use them doesn’t mean warrior didn’t get nerfed slightly.

The only way you could stand to get somehow buffed by this patch is if you use D/D or P/D (or glass cannon D/P) and even then I wouldn’t consider it a buff more like a rebalance. Once again, even if the nerfs didn’t affect you personally doesn’t mean they didnt’ happen.

I have to disagree. I still get horrendous skill lag. It’s not AS BAD as it was a few weeks ago, but where before I was gettin 2-3 FPS, I’m now getting 4-5. If this is the “fix” to lag, I’m unimpressed.

I still astonished how Anet allow Thieves to drop an entire Shadow Refuge (and dark field), but not fix or rework these banners :/

i don’t see how Shadow refuge has anything to do with banners.

I play a banner regen war in PvP and I think banners are awesome. Maybe this is more for WvW, since banners are extremely god like in PvE as well.

1. Yea look into some warrior builds. If you want noob friendly you looking at the wrong class. Maybe at its hayday this was a good class for noobs with all the heartseeker spam. That was like a year ago though.
2. For condition P/D, burst D/P
3. If by mastering you mean learning how to exploit perma stealth and perma evade gimmicks (as effective as they may be) then I suggest you don’t rely on them because they’re both getting nerfed.

Nerf’s to permastealth are a good idea.

Problem is, if you take that away, Thief doesn’t have anything left.

Anet is taking away on obviously abusive mechanic (or, toning it down so it’s no longer abusive, I should say) – but they’re NOT REPLACING IT WITH ANYTHING VIABLE.

Work on putting more evasion baked into weapon skills.

lol greatsword OP? It has a weak autoattack , #2,4,5 skills all useless and never hit the target. And yes healing signet+ cleansing ire is a must have for a wARRIOR . I agree however that UF trait needed a change and hammer nerfs pretty mich needed because they wanna separate CC from the damage.

with greatsword, warrior can achieve damage, sustain, mobility in the same build along the same vein as old DD ele. without greatsword a warrior can’t be truly OP, but that’s just my opinion.

if you don’t pack all the warrior strengths into one build you’re not gonna be OP.

Stuff like healing signet, cleansing ire, greatsword, berserker stance, unsuspecting foe. Just don’t put them into the same build and you’ll know you’re not playing an op build.

Skale Venom weakness used to last 25s on full stack (without counting gear bonuses). That’s from the 15s base (fullstack) + 30% from DA + extra tick from Residual Venom (DA) that totally kitten any Warrior.

Instead, we now have the useless torment and 3s Weakness from Lotus. >.<’

Never really cared about a 2s Weakness from a sword. So whether they tried to remove it or not after adding it post beta, I didn’t really care because Skale Venom was all that’s needed.

I have to admit I’m suprised people actually used venoms prior to their “buff”. Especially since weakness was pretty bad before the buff.

Seriously people, stop complaining! The thief isn’t that bad if you know what you are doing. Just asura then to death. Jk. But I am serious, it is rarely the warrior I have troubles with, it is the necro, but that is because thrives have no CR so yeah.

Necro is like my toy. I can disengage from it whenever I want. It can never disengage from me though. There’s a reason why no one ever complains about necro in WvW.

It’s true that in terms of fighting ability it may not be far off from a war, but in reality there’s huge difference between them.

Necro is balanced.

I’ve always found tanking easier in full zerker, especially as S/P.
The extra crit % means that opportunist triggers more frequently meaning you have more initiative to spam Pistol Whip(immune to dmg).
Add in Omnom Pie which also triggers off crit and your alot tankier then the non crit tankier builds.

Thats just my opinion ofc.

key thing that keeps mesmer viable is phase retreat, which is basically shadow return. if that ever gets nerfed (.25s cast time added), i fear mesmer will be in the same state as S/D thief – completely not viable.

I don’t want staff nerfed anymore than IR but I think it’s worth noting that mesmers can be very effective while slotting 3 stunbreaks. Thieves kitten themselves quite a bit not taking shadow refuge…. so mesmers can handle stuns better and their skill remains safe from THA NERF HAMMMAAAHHH.

Shadow refuge should be nerfed too. Then we’ll see how much value the thief has in GW2

As someone who has been on both sides of the fence (player and dev), I’m genuinely excited for these changes.

I think we’ve tweaked enough things to shake-up the meta, and the work our team has been putting into the reward system means we now have incentive to play outside of owning people (which, to me, is still satisfying). Mixed in with the changes to matchmaking – we’re definitely headed in the right direction.

Is it December yet?

TL;DC – +Duration and -Duration are added together and THEN the condition duration is calculated. So +40% and -40% cancel each other out… and you can go over +100% duration to mitigate the -duration effects completely.

a lot of people don’t know this in game. but +40% condi duration is actually really good, if only to cancel out -40% condi duration food which is several times more expensive.

i read somewhere (wiki really)that cooldowns are shared by both weapons. and it was recommended that you have one icd sigil and one sigil with no cooldown. but i agree more testing would be nice.

I signet: remove the stunbreak, have it remove cripple chill and immobilize while still shadowstepping you to the target. This would trade sustain for short term pressure.

Terrible idea. Stunbreak is better than cripple chill and immobilize.

Which is why the stunbreak should be moved to Signet of agility so you get the stunbreak and the possibility of dodging 2(3) more stuns. Similar in functionality to dolyak signet breaking stun then providing immunity to stuns for 8 seconds.

It’s really not the same at all. By shifting the stunbreak onto signet of agility, you’re forcing signet of agility/shadowstep on my bar while I want infil signet instead.

So, why not keep the stunbreak on infil signet, and then introduce stunbreak on SoA and SoS as well. Stunbreak > all.

In other words, you’re nerfing infil signet, and buffing SoA. Buffing both of them is better than nerfing the superior signet and buffing a worse one.

Only because 2 stunbreaks would probably never happen and inf signet has a better offensive capability already while agility has better defensive capability. Ideally we need double the number of stunbreaks we currently have if these changes go through (refer to my earlier post or the thread on it) but that was the reason behind my logic for that change.

We need stunbreak on either SoA or SoS (preferably SoS because SoA is kinda meh) then, since I agree with you that we need more stunbreak.

SoA is probably my favorite one because it keeps me alive in a tough situation. I have traveler’s runes to free up the utility slot that SoS demands so it really comes down to a matter of playstyle. Honestly venoms need a stunbreak too, and I really think it should go on basi venom (thematically it makes sense that if you were able to get a basilisk’s venom you would have an antivenom or resistance to stuns). Basi should be instant cast as well since our only 1.5 second stun is an elite skill, has a 1 second cast time, and has an icon which floats above our head saying “I’M ABOUT TO STUN YOU”…. compared to mace, hammer, and shield on a warrior it’s pretty sad. Our stun should be sneaky and swift, not more telegraphed than a soldier leaping at you.

oic traveler’s rune. now it makes sense. Yea those runes are good , probably a must have if they make SoA into a stunbreak and not SoS. Though chances are good neither will be made into stunbreak lol.
