This is definitely a good suggestion.
However, they need to make sure the HPs are not farmable.
Basically a question for all of you who has a Kudzu out there.
I am considering making one but that bowstring simply looks too ugly to me.
The current PvE system will take away a huge chunk of PvX players’ play time.
WvW simply doesn’t contribute to their progression at the moment.
ANet needs to add in more incentives for ppl to try WvW.
I like balance analysis from gathering info from high-level tournament. Much more persuasive than some random complaint from ppl from their 1-2 solo queue experience.
Scrapper will be new dd ele. Stronger and more versatile. It will be the new meta^2 spec.
Yeah, you need groups of people to do things in all those maps but it is so hard to find people. This is so weird considering it is the first weekend the expansion goes alive. I expect more!
content——good
features——terribad
HoT isn’t really the death of solo play… it’s a bit closer to the death of guild wars 2 entirely o.O
LOL, so true. XD
I really hate to believe that. But some of the new features are really that bad that could push this game going downhill.
Once again, they updated some skill feature that they believe is cool but actually quite bad in reality.

Can you start perma banning all these accounts that keep saying they have quit or are quitting? They are doing nothing but constantly posting negative stuff all over the forums. There was a thread about playing nice when HoT launched and I thought that meant on these forums as well..
Hey guys I’m sorry you quit.. Please do so and stop posting here.. K thanks bye
Then plz stop coming to the forum. If you can’t handle negative stuff in the forum, just avoid it.
My friend bought the HOT several days ago according to my recommendation and he decide to quit this game already. We tried to unlock the elite specialization by collecting hero points on new map and failed. The two hours we spent only gave us 3 hero points and 20+ times of death. The jumping puzzle like map is trash, so don’t force ppl to play it!
It should be difficult. They’re called “Elite” Specializations… they should take a certain level of skill. If you are not good enough to unlock the content, then you shouldn’t get to unlock the content.
Also, if he quit the game because he couldn’t unlock “Elite” content mere days after starting the game, then that is really, really sad. Sad as in “Pathetic”
You know you guys LOVE to mock the casuals, but the irony is that if enough of them start quitting over this hero point fiasco, ANET will bend over backwards to get them to stay, INCLUDING changing the HP requirements. And if the hardcores in turn complain ?
Well ANET will have no problems telling you to Kitten off…
Exactly this.
I am not sure about the quality of whole gw2 community. But the gw2 forum community is in general terrible to new players.
Been playing since Beta 3 yrs ago. I have map completion for vanilla GW2. I have NEVER been bored in any map.
Not every one is the same as you. I remember back when I first started playing gw2, I did enjoy world exploration for some time.
But now I completely lost my interest in that. Even the new maguuma jungle doesn’t do the trick. It has all this fancy gliding and verticality features. But I simply can’t enjoy it anymore.

40 pages in and no response from ArenaNet.
I take this to mean that either they are frantically working to find a fix for this clusterkitten, or they are sat on their thrones looking down on the peasants saying “let them eat hero points.”
Time was I’d absolutely put my money on it being the former, now though … I’m not so sure.
It doesn’t require a complicated fix. Simply reduce the number of HP required to unlock.
Problem solved.
Because Anet boss believes if you are into anything, then you are really into PvE.
This clearly shows their understanding in the current HoT grinding structure.
I can tell you that it is almost equally hard to get those HPs in PvE.
So you might just stay in WvW and just grind it out.
As things stand, you either grind WvW ranks or grind mastery then grind HPs for the elite spec.
So please Colin, stop mentioning your ‘no grind’ philosophy of the game next time. It is nothing but grind now!
I feel your pain.
But unfortunately, PvP is the only way to go.

Just as I predicted, the whole HP hunting thing is strictly locked behind the mastery system which requires enormous grinding.
Well you are either trolling… in which case good job you got me…
Or I suggest actually reading about raids before commenting on them. Everything you’ve said is categorically false.
You know he is when he says someone spend 30 hours trying. I am not sure if the raid content is available for that long during last beta weekend.
The entire original post does not invite real discussion IMO, but we can still try.
You mention mesmer now being able to do more damage from stealth then thief can. How can this be intended when thief is meant to be the assassination class?
I play mesmer, as well as thief and warrior. I am way more skilled at the other two, yet the rewards I claim as a mesmer are far greater then with either war or thief. This is coming from a wvw roaming perspective.
Currently, the skill floor is too low. The ceiling is still high, though.
A big flaw you have is right now Thief is kinda useless in any roaming situation or competitive besides +1 or decapping, unless you are running the Ghost Thief build, and if you are losing using that build you have other issues, Thieves have been nerfed to near oblivion except for niche mobility, so comparing that class to mesmer right now is useless, when they have nothing else going for them.
I do not agree about thief being useless. Bottom line is last WTS, every team ran thief and one thief won the MVP award. Majority of ESL teams still run thieves. It might be true that in the coming expansion due to the abundance of reveal and other forms of support from chrono and scrapper, thief maybe phased out but we have to wait to see.
You are also taking the ‘besides +1 or decapping’ too lightly. This is actually a big part of sPvP. sPvP is all about rotation and create favorable matchups for your team. Thief also boost up the other bursty spec greatly in a coordinated team. As a mesmer, a good thief teammate will make your burst way more scary. The only other profession that might have similar potential is engi.
At the end of the day, thief is still the best ganker in the game, most capable of dealing kill blow. Provide the best stealth shelter for teammates. Have very good survivability and good synergy with many other professions.
If a point has a defender if it’s not another thief it will most likely end with the thief having to run away or die trying to Decap the point. The argument that thief has been meta since launch is only because of their mobility not their burst, +1ing is ok but any class can do that. Thieves are not the best Gankers, that’s a far cry from the truth.
Being in meta exactly means thief is viable and clearly better than any other class in some important areas of this game mode. People are not like stupid and take thief to kitten their team.
If a point has a defender other than another squishy, the thief won’t engage. This has been true since like more than a year ago. But if you look at high-level play, it is also true for mesmer. They most likely won’t 1v1 a point if it has a defender. Not being able to 1v1 is not a strong case to justify something is unviable.
Thief is the best ganker because it has the best stealth and gap closer. No other class can do better in this category.
It is also wrong to say any class can do the +1. Some specs don’t have enough damage to win the +1 quickly. Some specs are too slow to rotate to a point to even create that +1. Some class can do both but won’t be able to chase down opponent. Mean thief can do all these.
The entire original post does not invite real discussion IMO, but we can still try.

“I disagree with people, so I must mock them. Because there’s no way they could have possibly had a point”
Did you seriously think that people just complain because they had to? I mean for them to care so much they must have cared strongly about some aspect of the game.
“Everything Anet does is perfect and can never be questioned”
Really? Look at most content releases? Even if some of it is good, there can be issues.
“People either want to work for something, or not work for it all”
That’s plain false. There’s many levels of reward and compensation in this world. The degree of it matters, and that remains an issue worldwide.
“Also, somehow let’s ignore all the positive comments”
Just because someone complains doesn’t mean they don’t have things to enjoy or look forward too. Life ain’t black and white. Just because you curse the pothole in front of you doesn’t mean the whole world’s an ugly place.
See, I can respond to invisible people too.
Congrats to Anet for making an expansion to a great game. May you guys take the game in a exciting direction even if people are cranky in one way or another.
Man, you are hands down one of the best forum posters. All your posts are logically coherent, well-presented and close-to impartial.
Eh, I feel like WoR is underwhelming in PvP. I prefer for our team to just pressure the Rangers as oppose to having a long CD WoR.
It is very hard for your ganker teammate to pressure ranger when there are multiple. They have to go off point to chase down the ranger while the other ranger pewpew them from long distance away. As long as two rangers stand in LoS with each other, it becomes very hard to break that ‘chain’ in an uncoordinated group.
Yeah, it is not easy to survive on most of zerker class.
First of all, make sure you use marauder amulet instead of berserker. That should already help you a great deal.
Then, you will have to learn many details of the map, the profession you fight against. Essentially starting improve your gameplay. I highly suggest you watch helseth stream(http://www.twitch.tv/thelordhelseth), one of the best mesmers in the game and streaming frequently. He also explains what he is doing quite often.
Play DD ele in PvP and enjoy its last moment of OPness
Multiple rangers is actually inherently strong. There is almost no escape from a LB ranger +1 even for thief and mesmer. They also have good map control with the range.
However, multiple ranger composition has the inherent weakness of dealing with reflection. But sadly no guardian, mesmer is willing to adapt by taking their reflection. There was one time we were facing a 3-ranger team and I asked our bunker guard to take WoR and he replied it would make his build not work…
sigh
Why do you bother playing if you just want to purchase your way to the end? You miss everything.
So..no.
Just to note, buying hero points =/= missing everything. I
He still got the whole expansion content to play minus HP grinding.
td;dr for ppl that dindt bother to read – revenant is locked into Shiro/Glint like ele in arcana/water lines.
And i disagree with reaper, sd engi or hambow countering rev unless you run some subpar build. Espesially hambows as they just cry at my double stab on dodge.
A side question. Why is shiro(devastation) line a must? Why can’t invocation line be taken instead? It doesn’t seem too much weaker compared to devastation.
Every quickness giving utility is also a stun breaker. And every one has a 60s CD. Only QZ is slotted however, and that is not because it is good on its own. It is quite solid traited but we also do not have anything better to slot.
A solution would be to reduce QZ, Haste and Frenzy CDs from 60s to 40s.
Frenzy is used quite often in warrior GS/AS build and it is quite strong.
Quickness works really well with warrior.
The funny thing is, even with the burst combo, its been ages since I one shot anyone from 100 – 0, except for zerker thieves.
And most decent players can tell your burst coming from miles away, and will just dodge away. Which lead me to include Mantra of Distraction.
Which means, I have zero conditions cleanse aside from Sigil of Generosity.
So burn guards and D/D kill me all the time.. I don’t think that makes us OP when we have a hard counter.
You won’t be able to one-shot almost anyone because the abundunce of passive proc. Not even thief because they all wear vampirism runes.
The most OP spec in PvP will always be those that can sustain and stack might to do damage at the same time.
It really doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that Scrapper and Revenant will be the next candidate.
Chrono, on the other hand, will make mesmer the pinnacle zerker class. The role will remain exactly the same as before.
Also, Supcutie’s analysis of mesmer is role is very accurate in PvP. It is not a dueling class because I mentioned in earlier post that all you can find to duel are tanky specs that are not even worth dueling against. Rather, our role rotates around portal and create favourable skirmishes to help the team win.
I love Kudzu, but I’m just curious about what they have planned for the new longbow/shortbow.
I have been thinking about making Kudzu for a while. But that bowstring is just too ugly on Kudzu.
3 months ago, we had a bandwagon in T2 that also lead to two other servers imploding. 10 months ago we had a bandwagon coming from T3 and completely destroyed T2 balance and ended imploding themselves as well.
At the start of the year TC, JQ, BG, YB, SoS, DB and FA were at the top of the leaderboards. Now we have SBI replacing DB but otherwise same servers.
The “recent” big shifts were Mag when the T2 GvG project bailed which was a year ago and HoD during the last tournament also over a year ago. Everything else has pretty much been low to mid-tier shifting where 10 players moving can actually shift the scores. TC and YB switched places but that is about all the drama going on in the top tiers. The last titanic shift was SoR and that was two years ago.
Sorry just not seeing much “bandwagoning” since the top 4 servers became locked. Now if those become unlocked, that will probably have some big shifts but I am guessing that isn’t going to happen any time soon.
You have to look deeper into the actual situation rather than calling everything stable just because server ranks didn’t shift a lot.
If you look at the actual population change in YB SoS FA and DB, the fluctuation is huge! The only reason SoS and FA didn’t have ranking change if because the artificial glicko wall created by T3 servers.
It didn’t take long… 1h30 and someone says mesmer is OP…
why is it so hard to admit? feeling self conscious that maybe skill is less of a factor?
we should embrace our superiority!
As a scientist, I have hard time admitting wrong facts…
I truly feel you. Forum is always filled with illogical, exaggerated, false claims and argument.
Further I’m talking about history, not necessarily what’s happening now. NA has a history of bandwagoning and fixing tiers, that’s what has put us in this position (for better or for worse).
EU has blowouts and static tiers just like NA. The number of real NA bandwagon activities are almost all related to free transfers (gone for years now) and tournaments. There hasn’t been any real bandwagon activity or even significant implosions in NA for a year.
Besides this problem has existed since day one and had little to do with a “bandwagon” problem.
3 months ago, we had a bandwagon in T2 that also lead to two other servers imploding. 10 months ago we had a bandwagon coming from T3 and completely destroyed T2 balance and ended imploding themselves as well.
Pros earn their biggest reward(real world money) in tournaments. League is more for majority of PvPers.
Also, I want to point out that even though mesmer is a strong dueling class, you still rarely see mesmer go for 1v1 in high level tournament play. We can hold our own pretty well 1v1 but you don’t unless you have to
That is because most meta builds are tanks that can sustain very well. Thief is still a very hard matchup if you don’t take daze mantra. However, portal is always taken instead of daze mantra in ESL despite the fact the latter can help you a great deal to win 1v1.
This is really just a number tweaking thing. It is safe to let it play out.
If it indeeds proves to be too powerful, they can still reduce the number or buff other class’s counterpart.
Hm if the pattern continue then 51-60 should be a totally new personal daily chest, awesome! Here comes the fractal weapon chest boxes!
I think it is not divided to every 10 levels. Check that blog again. I think all 100 levels is divided into 3 categories.
Can we finally know how much AR we need to push beyond 50?
Why do you even worry about it?
With the new ultimate-grind mastery system in place and making legendary requiring full unlock, it would take an enormous amount of grind before you can start crafting.
So by the time you finish your mastery grinding, they will probably have released the new legendaries if you haven’t afk’ed by then.
I doubt it will take me longer than 3 days to unlock the legendary mastery… With 250% xp boost, and Halloween active that 27 million xp is going to just melt away.
I think in the blog it says you will need to unlock all masteries not just legendary masteries.
But I did mess up my calculation a bit and assumed 10 times as much as it actually requires. I originally thought it would probably take me 2 years to unlock them all. Now it feels more like 3-4 months.
BTW, how do you get 250% exp boost?

I’ve read some pretty valid and well put points from both sides of the fence, no need to derail it with fictional over-exaggeration and belittlement.
People are already over exaggerating with the HP grind.
Actualy, GW2 is the only MMO that allow you to get your BiS gear BEFORE the expac launch.
No level cap increases. No level locking behind instanced dungeons.
Insta lvl 80 revenant with tomes. The counterpart is… HP. Consider it as the new XP for your elite spec. What’s wrong with that?
Because it is inherently different from XP prior to 80. You could do pretty much anything you like to earn that XP. This HP requirement forces you to do one thing——map exploration grinding.
So if we need 160 HP to unlock the traits part of our spec… that means 16 challenges. Not 160 or 1600.
16
Where’s the grind again?
Because the requirement is 40HP.
16HP means I probably can do it by exploring two maps. Kinda annoying but still okay.
40HP means I have to it over all 4 maps and there is a large chance that they are located at hard-to-reach positions that require mastery. Then I have to grind mastery and then grind exploration before I can unlock my skills/traits.

why do we perpetuate these threads? Please just stop posting. We’ll see if chrono is OP when it comes out Friday.
Prediction:
People will cry hard that chrono is OP. And after things settled in a month, you start to have 4 scrapper meta^2 in tournament.
To all the players attacking the origional poster and defending Mesmer. Yes Mesmer is broken and insanely OP right now. Yes I play Mesmer, and yes I am admiting a class I play is unfair at the moment because it is. The class almost takes no skill to pull off ludicrous amounts of damage while having some of the best active defenses in guild wars two. Don’t kid yourselves trying to suger coat and pretend the Mesmer is fine… Lol it is far from it. Best Mesmer player in the world even stated they are broken as hell.
Oooh ooh, I can do it too!
Nope, mesmer is perfectly balanced. In fact, it’s never been more balanced, it’s probably the most balanced class in the history of gw2 atm. Don’t kid yourselves and pretend mesmer is op, it’s just a l2p issue.
See what I did there?
Yeah, I saw another person that is happy with playing a class that takes close to no skill to play while dominating others. Good job man, You look awesome!
No no, I perfectly understood your poor use of sarcasm, appears mine went way over your head.
Yeah, how about posting a video showing your heroic in a game or just posting your no. of rated games as mesmer and winrate.
Better yet, why don’t I just post the stream to you where a pro says it himself while laughing lol. After all I’m sure he has far more games than I. But if you wish I can post mine to you gladly as soon as I am home.
Sure you can laugh like an idiot just like that certain pro. Or you prove it by recording your heroics and achieving some abnormal winrate.

If people were planning on doing it anyway, there’s no point complaining about doing it.
There is a difference between being obligated to do it and doing it voluntarily.
There is a difference between doing it with old core spec you have played for 2 years and doing it with a brand new elite spec.
There is a difference between doing it at your own self-pace, feeling relaxed and having fun and rushing through them just to unlock some basic content.
