How do you define casual?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Farzo.8410

I’ve wondered this myself. People are shouting the word casual back and forth, having their own defenitions.

To me, a casual player can be an extremely skilled player, or a not-so-good one, but he limits his playtime with other stuff as well.

The casual player might have work and a family. The game is just something he does on his free time to enjoy himself for some hours.

At the moment, we can pick up a lot of stuff, like water buckets, planks, bottles, bombs, shovels, feathers, guns and many other stuff that lays around in the world, these are called environmental weapons. I like them, they are cool, and I have had lots of fun picking them up and attacking enemies.

However, in my opinion, it’s not enough. I want to be able to interract with the world even more.

God kitten it, let me sit on a chair, at a table, having an in-game drink. I don’t want to jump around all over the place to find a spot and then to /sit on it and it will look completely out of place.

It’s very easy, it’s just requires some dodging, and jumping.

Just remember that the Berserker’s shock waves are not only on the ground, it’s in the air too, and you shouldn’t jump then.

Killing Zaitan ends a quest chain that started in Guild Wars 1 EOTN.

Not sure this is true. I’m thinking that the dragon at the end of EotN was Primodus, not Zhaitan.

It was Primordius, yes, you delayed his wakening by killing the Great Destroyer. What I think he says though is that all this Elder Dragon stuff started in Eye of the North expansion, now leading up to Zhaitan’s death(?) but it’s still ongoing.

There are a lot of things that make the game casual friendly. Most game push players into doing dungeons. There’s one single epic quest line in Rift and it ends in a raid. That, to me, is not casual. I guess it’s sort of the same in the personal story in Guild Wars 1 ending in a dungeon, but even worse.

Most of the people who like challenging content find there isn’t enough of it in Guild Wars 2. Most of the game can be played by a single player without grouping, and that indeed makes it casual.

Actually that’s not entirely true there are many things you are leaving out like the farming of T6 materials which is the sole way of making any kind of meaningful money in this game. They are forcing people to play dungeons or WvW in order to make any money. The only other method is to buy gems and convert them.

And saying “most” is your opinion that the thousands (i suspect due to the pre-guesting patch emptyness of the servers) who left in November wouldn’t agree with, because of their new dungeon only focus.

I did do the experimental living world, and was highly disappointed that it’s still yet to be the focus on the open world they promised they would have prelaunch.

Also, Rift didn’t force people into dungeons, they had solo dungeons and the lotteries gave plenty of currency that was needed to buy the gear one needed so your argument about that game is nul.

My statement stands.

ArenaNet is not forcing anything on you, or the players. It’s your, or the other players choice.

Stop trying to blame the game, or ArenaNet for your own choices.

I’ve played this game for a long time (Played all beta weekends and since release) and I haven’t farmed a single dungeon for gold, nor farmed T6 mats for gold, I have just played the game, and I got full Cultural Tier 3, and another 100 gold on the bank, just by playing the game, doing what I enjoy.

Anyone else annoyed or at this point.....

At the moment I’m 1,352 hours played across all characters. 1,203 of those hours are on one character which is my Guardian.

I’m slowly, slowly getting materials for The Flameseeker Prophecies, but I’m still far away. I have no rush, and I login and play for fun.

ArenaNet forces nothing on me, I do everything myself by choice, and I’m having a great time doing different stuff from time to time, slowly building up for the Legendary.

It’s not the game’s, or ArenaNet’s fault if people can’t limit themselves and start dislike the game.

Also, what gated content?

You can leave Guild Wars 2 for months without getting behind anywhere, that is what makes the game very casual.

There is no forced, or mandatory grind. Sure there is grind, but that’s something the players put on themselves, not something ArenaNet force upon them.

There is only ONE Legendary with LORE behind it, and that is The Flameseeker Prophecies.

The Flameseeker Prophecies was the big mission and storyline you followed in original Guild Wars in Kryta.

Guild Wars Wiki

Guild Wars 2 Wiki

Also, The Flameseeker Prophecies is the only Legendary which got a text explaning it on the wiki.

The Flameseeker Prophecies is a shield containing motifs along the edges and an excerpt in New Krytan of the Flameseeker Prophecies. The prophecies, compiled by Glint, foretold most of the events of ‘’Guild Wars Prophecies’’, from the fall of Ascalon to the unleashing of the titans.

Therefore, The Flameseeker Prophecies is the most Legendary weapon in the game, because it also got a story behind it.

All the other Legendaries only got a text like-

New Zones?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Farzo.8410

At the moment ArenaNet is focusing on fixing/creating more content with the current zones to max out their world as much as possible.

This is something I like because in other MMOs, they just keep releasing zone after zone, and the zones just die out when the next new thing comes.

So they will update the world they got before they think of adding more zones.

I see what your trying to say but they aren’t doing that, they’re adding temporary content which goes away sooner or later.

Temporary content is good to some degree, yes. Too much of it might be silly.

However, this is what ArenaNet have said, that they are going to improve the world they got before of thinking about new zones.

It sounds good. Let’s just not hope they are adding too much temporary content.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Farzo.8410

Its because a thief is really a assassin in GW2, they purposely designed it to be able to kill any of the other 7 classes in a 1v1 situation no problem…

Assassins aren’t brawlers. They killed people in their sleep, from a distance, or via proxy. Most documented assassinations prior to the industrial age were actually performed by woman.

So, no, assassins aren’t inherently more deadly than other professional killers.

You seem to underestimate the female gender?

Clearly, they are only good for healing and cooking profession!

I don’t think ArenaNet is doing such a good job with showing off the lore in Guild Wars 2. It’s most likely because of no fetch quests with text, or I’m not looking hard enough.

I still love the game though, and play it every day, but a big part for me in a game is the lore.

Just create a new alt and level it, you can hit from 1 to 80 in a day.

Farming for armor is also simple and fast, can’t see the issue here.

You’ll be surprised how big of a factor money is! If enough people want this implemented and they can do it, why not? They’ll make a really nice profit out of it I’m sure of that.

Well, sure, but…

I thought it was like the point in RPGs to make a choice, and then not be able to change race, name, profession over the whole freakin’ place.

I think name change is enough.

Why only two heavy armor classes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Farzo.8410

Farzo.8410

ArenaNet at one point made Guild Wars Utopia, which was later on made into Eye of the North.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_Utopia

There was new coming profession there, called the Chronomancer (and Summoner.)

“Chronomancer”, which is traditionally, in fantasy games, a time mage. Other concept art, some very recent, and some dating back even to before Nightfall depicts men and women with a range of weapons, including maces, dual-wielded spears, javelins, halberds, dual-handed swords and dual-wielded axes.

The only (I think) info we got about Chronomancer is this quote.

So, one profession I can think of is some sort of… Time-Mage in Heavy Armour dual wielding axes?

Im still holding out with the rumor that Monk will make a reappearance as a martial arts class though… and also, Paragon is still a possibility since the game’s original code supported non-aquatic polearms.

If you have read the lore about Guardians, that’s pretty much them, an improved version of the Paragon. The turmoil in Elona made many Order of the Whisper members to flee to Kryta, whereas some of them were Paragons.

They started to teach their ways, and now we got the Guardian profession.

Why no capes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Farzo.8410

Farzo.8410

We had capes in DAoC and it looked great for It’s time and caused no real lag. We have much better CPU’S these days.

Not sure why not besides clipping which already happens, so what?

Just because we already have some clipping issue it doesn’t mean we should add more.

The problem with capes is the Charr. They run on all four, which apparently created huge amount of clipping, and it didn’t look good (according to ArenaNet)

I think the only way to add capes to the game is to set a race limit on them, leaving the Charr out. I don’t know if Charr players would like this.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Farzo.8410

One of the things that drove me away from WOW and SWTOR was the ridiculous number of abilities.

How are options a negative point in a game? I never played either one of those, but in GW1, a massive chunk of the fun was the number and synergy of all the skills in the game. Better yet, your entire bar was customizable, so you weren’t stuck with unchangeable attack skills and a paltry number of utility and elite skills.

Options aren’t a negative thing.

It’s just that there is a bar or macro for almost every single ability, that makes it annoying in World of Warcraft.

Original Guild Wars limited the player, with 8 bars, but you could customize them with almost every ability in the game. That is good.

Spectator needs a free came

in PvP

Posted by: Farzo.8410

Farzo.8410

i dont think we need free camera… static points on map are a bit limiting, thats true, but we can spectate specific player with free camera around him and that offers enough options to look at battle imo usually when you want to spectate, you want to know what specific player does and static points are ok for overall team fight view

Have you ever watched say an esport that has set cameras? No? Because no game in their right might, that wants to take eSports seriously will have set cameras. That not only limits the caster in what they can see but it also makes it terribly hard for the viewer to see whats going on in the “first person” mode.

GW2 needs set free camera.

Hello.

Just to inform you.

Even World of Warcraft became an Esport, and that game is heavily gear based, and even more unbalanced than Guild Wars 2. It doesn’t even have Custom Arenas, nor a Spectator/Observer Mode, still it became an Esport.

Just now Blizzard added a Spectator Mode, for Pet Battles.

So ‘’Taking Esport seriously’’ I think Guild Wars 2 got a far bigger chance because it even got Custom Arenas and Spectator Mode, even if you think Guild Wars 2 ’’needs’’ to have free camera.

But also, World of Warcraft is no longer an Esport, I think they removed the title from that game.

However, yes, a free camera would be nice to have, I wouldn’t say no to that.

Is it easy to make gold?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Farzo.8410

Farzo.8410

It’s a pretty subjective matter.

Many people think it’s really hard to make gold, and blame ArenaNet there is a gem to gold converter.

In my opinion, it’s actually really easy to make gold, but it takes time. People seems to love doing Citadel of Flames Exploreable Path 1, and farm that one for an hour or two. While indeed it gives plenty of gold, it can get really tedious doing so over and over again, be sure to bring friends and chat with them meanwhile in voice-chat software, it will be more fun.

I myself, play the Trading Post (It’s really boring but in the end it’s rewarding.)

Instead of Citadel of Flames you can do Fractal of the Mists too, it gives pretty cool items you can seel for gold.

Then there is the good old farming, kill the same monster over, and over again, stack up on a certain item and then sell them as well.

in Guardian

Posted by: Farzo.8410

Farzo.8410

I really love the idea of Spirit Weapons. When I first saw the skill video ArenaNet released of the Hammer my mind was blown, it looked so awesome.

The sad thing is that the duration and the cooldown of the Spirit Weapons doesn’t really make it worthwhile, as well as the randomness of some things (like the hammer knocking enemies back the 3rd attack it makes, making it hard to plan your fights if you don’t time it right.)

As said, their hp is really low, the duration is short, and the cooldown is too long. Otherwise I sure would use a Spirit Weapon on my build more. The only part where I use a Spirit Weapon is in the fractals, and that is only the Shield of the Avenger.
