This thread is ostensibly directed to back items, per the title. But other valid subjects have popped up that are closely related. I vote no to the back item switch, but do believe Anet has permitted gear to inadvertently become a “griefing” feature.

Have you ever been gliding over a rock in Bloodstone Fen, getting your alignment just right to drop down onto bloodstone ore, just to have someone else open an opaque canopy of stars? It’s the same as a guy with wings standing on a ledge that you want to jump from but you can’t see anything until that guy leaves. Hope he/she is not afk.

I want a switch to turn off the griefing objects. I don’t mind looking at other peoples bunny ears as long as they don’t actually interfere with my ability to play.

My opinion is that the designers do not fully consider the impact of their choices before implementing them. That leads us to these threads trying to turn off the result of their choices.

This was better said and doesnt sound so “your colors offended me and my gender and my opinions im sensitive but dont call me that bc i get offended how dare you”

I can agree with what youve said, I was in a WvW JP, a guildmate of mine was dragging me along and there was this ledge that these 4 people were on just standing, minding their own but they all had huge wings and you couldnt really make out the start of the ledge exactly- the result- we fell to our deaths

I’m not offended in any way, since I know people have different tastes. The taste they have though, is very annoying. It’s not something I will simply quit over if it continues in this way, but play time can dwindle because of exhaustion seeing this all the time.

I do believe ArenaNet created all these items “at the heat of the moment” without properly thinking how a zerg or large groups of players with these items will look like. As it has come to, it has become quite ridiculous, and this is not only a theme that ruins much of the game world thing.

These infusions and wings and other very particle filled armour actually conceals much of the game world, causing others to misstep a jumping puzzle and die. Zergs in WvW can’t properly see red rings to avoid, and likewise in open PvE content like Dragon’s Stand.

The appearance of player characters are getting quite annoying. These are examples you see pretty much all the time, and everywhere, and it’s really taking its toll.

Taking it’s toll on what? I don’t see anything wrong in any of those pictures. The level of complaining over paltry, piddly crap is getting absurd.

If you don’t like how someone looks, don’t look at them.

For the record, I wear a metal smith backpack (3rd tier i think) and none of this bothers me at all.

It’s cluttering the game, and it’s difficult to not look somwhere when that’s where I need to look to prevent death, targeting an NPC or enemy or completely obscuring the whole camera from safe jumps. The armour, the obnoxious backpacks and the over glowing infusions are cluttering the screen, even hiding other effects. The general feel of the game also gives a ridiculous impression when this is all we see.

The characters all look so fantastic, i dont see what your problem is.

I want to be play the game on max settings, because I am able to. I don’t want to lower the graphics just because some players want to make the most obnoxious looking characters ever. I rather have an option that remove objects—backpacks in this case—that have started to destroy the awesome and beautiful appearance of the rest of the game.

Backpacks and flashier armours and effects were finer back in the older days (except for the humongous spell effects that were going on in combat) but now flash armours, visual infusions and obnoxiously big backpacks in form of wings have appeared far too much, and just destroys the general feeling of the game world.

I don’t understand why you care so much about what other players look like? As long as I think I look Boss, I couldn’t not care about the disco going on next to me, or the Charr that wants to loom like a monster from the power rangers.

Just as I don’t want litter lying around on the ground.

It’s ugly and annoying and it destroys for everyone else.

Backpacks in this game are becoming more and more obnoxious. I do like the high fantasy setting in this game, but the way certain things are made are becoming too ridiculous, with giant obnoxious wings being one of them.

People are starting to look like a walking disco. This was fine in the past when The Moot was close to the only disco inspired item.

But these days there’s over flashy armours with over flashy infuses that causes some really large effect around characters, and people can stack this up.

Large backpacks just covers the screen far too much and it’s becoming really, really annoying.

So I want to suggest an option that hide the model of other people’s back pieces.

If not, will everyone see everyones condition stacks, cluttering the whole UI up? or will they only be able to see their own applied conditions, gimping them from knowing what other conditions are on like weakness if they think they can tank the damage or not, or vulnerability to burn out some damage?

I don’t like many of the backpieces we have in game. Wings especially are being overly produced and used.

The legendary backpieces are not any better, at all. Both are oversized, overglowing and obnoxious. I’m well aware that people have different tastes, but I can’t understand how anyone would want to be visible with that kind of thing on their back.

My backpiece is hidden all the time. Can’t really use one because wielding a shield makes them disappear, and spawn out of nowhere when you pull your shield out. It looks wrong.

The only backpiece I really like(d) was the guild backpack, that’s pretty much it.

Hi.

I’ve been looking for a friendly, or more family knit guild. I have been playing this game since beta and headstart until now, jumping on and off at some times.

I’m more or less interested in finding people who would give me a chance to try raiding. I’ve been met with some rather extreme requirements at times, even for wishing to try the first boss, the Vale Guardian.

Of course, getting in on a raiding team instantly is not something I require to happen the moment I would join, but at least a little taste of how the Guild Wars 2 raiding is.

Again, raiding is not everything I would go for. Of course I would take part in your events and converse on TeamSpeak and such.

If you need any more information, I’ll gladly share if you need more for joining you lot.

Thanks.

Revenant power came from Mist. Like in the Cinema when Rytlock jump into hole" rift "gets his sword back. I think there he went to Hall of Heroes to get this power or some where Underworld?

Would be nice tough.. If you start making new Revenant as human or any other race "instance’ where you would get the revenant power. As norn into “Hall of Spirit”…

Maybe they will added later on story when its fits to Living Story or another Expansion? Like in new Living Story 3 map…there are lots of rifts…

Maybe it was left open so we can make own story how our character get those elite specilization…

At least the elite specializations aren’t too farfetched.

Guardians picking up a bow and channel their will through it.

Mesmers already know time magic.

Warriors got so tired of being bad close to every game mode they put themselves on fire in a suicide attempt.

Elementalists just summon more storms.

Necromancer picks up a greatsword.

Thief being more edgy and dodgy.

Engineer just being an engineer inventing new stuff.

I guess Ranger is the only more interesting one with the whole Druids of the Maguuma Jungle.

The majority of them look so horrible.

Everyone need their own set of unique stuff, so no, human females shouldn’t have more.

If anything, norn should have more because they are far less presented than human.

Have you even remotely read the patch notes? or did you just skim through them, login thinking meh.

You should read the Patch notes here

Some of these fixes have been around since forever like that awful dodge roll bug.

We all want beefy content & i think anet is moving toward that.

Fixing a bug that should have been fixed a long time ago is not a “quality of life” feature.

QoL is something like the salvage improvement.

Well, theres the better ping functionality, account-wide recipes, being able to queue for PvP outside of HotM, the fractal UI changes and stuff like that.

Those are all QoL, yes.

Improved chat box, aka fixed emote system that is not map wide. Also customised chat colours.

Official, dedicated roleplay server, aka something that lets us end up in a map or a server with ONLY roleplayers, and people who ticks this box and want to end up on a roleplay ID map or server.

That’s what would make me RP in Guild Wars 2 full time.

Until they fix close to useless weapon attacks, utilities that never see the use of them because it does so little on the CD they have, and traits that doesn’t make any sense being in the lines they are or doesn’t synergies with anything else at all.

Yeah, no… not going to bother with that. I can dedicate time and skill, gold, food and whatnot, but I’m not going to bother filling 2 more professions with ascended equipment because these raiding players thinks it’s necessary.

It makes me cringe when elitist players try to make a game that is casual into something hardcore.

In certain guilds they ask for that because certain class stacking is pointless. It has nothing to do with elitism. You can’t expect to bring a bunch of mesmers and not hit enrage. There are plenty of guilds out there that accommodate all sorts of players and there is no reason why you can’t start your own group in LFG or from friends.

It makes me cringe the amount of casuals that want to turn this casual game even more casual.

Never mentioned anything about class stacking, you did.

People are allowed to form whatever groups they want. It just becomes overly pitiful when they ask people to have 3 different professions with full ascended armour.

I lost a LOT of respect for Mike O’brien when he posted and specifically named people in order to humiliate, embarrass, and shame them for their opinions. There are a lot of valid, demonstrable reasons why players see HoT as incomplete.

But for a professional to name and shame when Anet’s policy for their own players is not to allow this is just pathetic. And totally unprofessional. He needs to get a grip on his emotions and step back and look at all points of view objectively, politely, and professionally.

MO did not name and shame anyone. Stop being silly.

And no. Colin won’t change anything if he comes back now.

MO was just the bearer of bad news, because this was probably already decided far back. He just let us know, which is a respectful thing to do, despite the current circumstances.

Yes, I am disappointed in the direction it’s going, but the transparency done by MO is appreciated nonetheless.

First, I don’t care about legendaries. I got the best legendary in the game already—The Flameseeker Prophecies—and that is all I need.

Still, it’s disappointing, because money were involved. I’m a rather poor person, so sometimes it stings when the content and features are delayed or put off when you spent money that could have been needed for something else. But games helps to escape that reality at times.

But I appreciate you being more open about these things than remaining in silence for too long.

You can only keep trying and do the best out of the situation.
