“Dear ANet, nerf Paper, Scissors is fine. Sincerely, Rock”
Elysaurus | Warrior | [LOL] | League of the Legendary | Gandara (EU)
On that fight wurms priorize ranged users first (along with a few other weapon sets, like guardian hammer, ele dagger and so on).
Might be true regarding the ranged as that’s opposite of how aggro actually works, so it would be easily reversed, but I can’t see the AI being strong enough to prioritise one professions weapon set over another.
As for OP, why are you ranging anyway, it’s no secret melee is better.
You likely can’t see the circles because of your horrible draw distance, I can guarentee you there is no safe bit of ground near the champion.
You see terrestrial Legendaries every day, so I’ve only attached my Kamohoali’i Kotaki.
Never figured this one out, and get varied responses.
For example, does every enemy in AC count as a Ghost, and every enemy in COE count as Inquest or every enemy in TA count as Nightmare Court?
I’ve had people saying “every enemy in that dungeon counts as X” whereas I’ve also heard “Subject Alpha counts as Undead, but the Golems count as Inquest”.
I’m asking as I’m stocking up on dungeon potions now I’ve finally cleared my invisible bag of junk.
Help appreciated.
It is indeed an L2 kitten ue.
2 things kill you in CM:
A FGJ nerf would be enough, just drop the Might stacks from 3 to 1, and possible re-nerf the banners as they were already too good to pass up, then they near double the effect (lol AN logic).
Job done.
Warrior is my second, so not exactly biased/mad either.
Very biased screenshot.
I think he’s mad because engineers aren’t forced to use kits, like elementalists are forced to use attunements. Therefore, an engineer who doesn’t use kits has fewer weapon skills than other classes. Though, an engineer who refuses to use kits is about as useful as an elementalist who never swaps attunements.
Not every other profession is forced to use their secondary weapon. If he wants to kitten himself, it’s his fault. Arenanet have supplied the tools for him.
1) Find a money making method and abuse it, leave farming for the bots.
2) Buy materials.
3) Craft Legendary.
4) Be generic and dance around LA trying to show off, before realising nobody cares about Legendaries since November.
Welcome to the internet.
Nice to see a lesser Legendary instead of “OMG I JUST CRAFTED MY TWILIGHT/SUNRISE”.
(edited by Flissy.4093)
l2dodge.
Char limit.
The difference is Engineer’s kits count as other weapon abilities. Similar to Elementalist and attunement, they unlock whole new weapon abilities.
If anything, both Elementalists & Engineers get 4 (or 5 including med kit) weapons, so if anything all other professions should be able to cycle through 4 sets.
Why do these professions get 20 weapon skills to play around with but others only get 10?
Get some Ash Legion Spy Kits. They cost like 28 Karma each, there’s really no reason not to have them. If you are trying to 100% Orr they are a “must”.
It’s pretty objective that some Legendaries had a lot of thought put into their effects (Juggernaut, Greatswords) and are “Legendary effects” regardless of if you like them, whereas some were not as invested in (Minstrel, Howler, Kraitkin, so on so forth).
Fortunately, they are rectifying this issue with updates such as the past ones that add effects.
For me, even though I don’t like it. the most “Legendary” is the Juggernaut as it effects your whole player rather than just leaving footprints or a sound effect.
I do understand the situation. As someone who invests a lot of time into the game, I do find myself completely monthly content in 1 or 2 days. It pretty much boils down to leveling alts with friends & running dungeons for fun. I don’t care if I don’t need gear, if I don’t get rewards. I get to have fun with some friends.
If this isn’t to your taste you can just play occasionally. That’s the beauty of a buy to play MMO. Bored and out of content? Take a break and come back.
Never thought about this, although I really should have considering most Engineers use Pistol/X instead of Rifle, yet never thought why for some reason.
Because 2-Handed weapons do more damage then 1-Handed weapons, That would give an unfair advantage to 2-Handed builds.
Not true:
Of course, there are others but they are 1h melee weapons vs a 2h ranged, so thats more about melee > ranged.
Mist “mid level” zones are totally dead. It’s pretty much like that in every MMO if there is no special event or reason to go there.
Why go back to a zone you have 100%ed if there is no purpose?
As ArenaNet have given an official response the matter, I would like this thread to be locked.
The thread has just turned into abuse, while others are regurgitating what has already been said:
Again, I’d like this thread locked if possible, we have gotten what was required.
I think sharing mf is sloppy and will lead to the other side of the problem where people who AREN’T running mf gear are the bad guys.
I can understand where you are coming from, but at least everybody is benefitting from the MF player gimping themselves. Assuming the rest of the group are fine with a shared “MF run”, the player in the MF gear takes on a selfless role to give everybody in the group better stats while benefitting from a speedy/safer run as the others are not in MF.
I’ll concede it’s hardly a perfect idea, but it’s better than what we have currently.
No.
You know why? I enjoyed every second of playing.
My Mesmer recently got Kamohoali’i Kotaki and you know why it was so fun? I didn’t farm it. I didn’t repeat myself for hours on end, I played with great friends who were fun to be around, not dozing as I run the same dungeon path 20 times in a row.
People constantly claim they are “glad it’s over”. I’ve never understood why they aim for a Legendary if they don’t enjoy getting one.
SPOILERS: Nobody cares about your Legendary other than you, and possibly your friends, so anybody getting one with the intentions of showing off is an utter moron.
I understand your pain as my first character I geared in exotics at 80 was my Necro, needing these stats. Be thankful you can get yours from Karma vendors, I could only get armor from those at the time and not accessories
All I can advise is settle with Rampager’s for now until you can get Ascended accessories.
I’d like to say I hope Rabid become craftable, but then I’d be lying as them not being such is a huuuuuge money maker for me.

It’s pretty clear to me fused weapons were initially a design for COF one’s that were held back, deemed “too cool” and thrown in gem store RNG chests.
Of course it’s subjective, but they look tacky.
If farming COF for a legendary is so quick and easy, why don’t you go do it yourself?
It still takes a lot of time and effort, and is arguably one of the slower methods.
/thread.
Makes me laugh how most the threads about Legendaries QQ about precursors.
Don’t like RNG? Don’t gamble, just buy them from the TP – that’s what I did for both of mine and don’t regret it one bit.
As for COF, I agree it is definitely due a nerf. If a complete overhaul of the path is not an option here are some possibilities that I can see being changed:
This would still allow it to be farmable to a lesser extent, but put a lot of the brainless speedfarmers in a sticky situation reducing it’s effectiveness.
All that said, they’d just move onto HOTW 1 then.
Legendary weapons are not “lolrng”. I have never been “lucky” with drops, and get exotics very rarely. I have only ever had one drop worth over 10g, which is the Molten Firestorm mini (which I haven’t sold, so that’s irrelevent anyway). My next best drop was Super Sword (8g at the time) and Deathwish (6g at the time). The rare time I get exotics, they have all been worth a lot less than those 3 items, I tend to get ones worth about 1g.
Don’t come crying about RNG when it clearly isn’t necessary. Wanna know how people get 6-7 Legendaries? They manipulate the TP or buy gold. RNG has very little to do with it.
If you don’t like the grind – don’t do it! Nothing is forcing you to. They don’t give a statistical advantage for a reason.

In game series called monster hunter you dont even have such things as visable health bar for monsters, can you imagine that? Also If it would apply for world bosses than same would need to apply for everything.. which would question balance i think
I didn’t like that game purely for that reason.
I beg to differ with you but I will use a full set of MF when I am farming Mobs. Without the MF I may be able to kill faster but I would never make the same amount of profit as I do when I use MF. Prime example, I farmed Sparks for an hour with my regular armour, no MF and found an assortment of junk with the best being a green. I then ramped up to 171% MF and in the next hour found 3 charged lodestones and 2 rares and yet that second hour should have been when DR kicked in, yet I made well over 7 gold in profit. I would not run dungeons in mf gear, even though my mf gear is exotic but when farming for profit it is the only way to go.
I don’t focus too much on people running MF in their own time, as nobody but themselves is losing out.
As for your example, the sample size is too small to say “look how good MF is”.
Actually leads me onto another problem – there is no way to know if your increased magic find got you X drop, or Y drop. You may have gotten those without the bonus MF.
The retaliation shouldn’t be a problem if player’s dodge attacks appropriately. Their own healing skill should be able to allow them to recover the retaliation damage.
f you don’t want them in your elitist fast researcher groups that you only take the best of the best, then fine, I don’t mind taking them into my parties
Of course I can never stop people running MF, but I can encourage people to reject players who are penalizing the group for a selfish gain.
Just gonna quote myself if this conversation continues. Haven’t had to say anything new for a while.
You’re whole IQ scenario is not at the expense at others’ time. Which wasting others’ time, for the …. 5th time now? … is rude and deserves no place in group content.
you should not spread discrimination.
And by the way, even if you ran naked with white weapons CoF path 1 will at most take 15 minutes. All people in MF would probably take 8 minutes. All in berserker – 6. Uuuuh what a big difference!
My comment was a hyperbole, but I’d be surprised if you know what that is.
I’d like to see evidence of this 15 minute naked run.
And once again, they’re slowing the group down for selfish reasons by 33%, why should the others accept this?
Simple addition that really shouldn’t be missing in 2013. In 2003 maybe, but certainly not now.
That said, we can just guestimate in the meantime.
then exclude him from your groups,
I do, and you’re bashing me for it.
Of course I can never stop people running MF, but I can encourage people to reject players who are penalizing the group for a selfish gain so all the MF scrubs can play with other MF scrubs and spend 30 minutes doing COF Path 1.
Indeed, these boxes are a great way to spend Karma.
Spent ~2m karma recently on these with the same boosts, but only a 5% banner and no infusion, and must have made about 80g.
Not to mention I got my Obsidian Shards for my Kamohoali’i Kotaki while I was there – why would someone actually buy those things when you can make so much money getting them this way?
Since you’re (Mirta) clearly going to continue denying your own words, how about working with your example.
So this terrible warrior who dies instantly because he doesn’t know what he’s doing. Yes, gear is irrelevant there because he was too incompetent to live long enough to use it. However, this doesn’t say anything about the value of the MF gear compared to it, as neither had enough of a chance to do anything that can be compared.
To compare the value of the gear, look to a more successful situation. The warrior stays alive pretty well, dealing damage the way they’re supposed to and generally being competent. But in MF he is dealing quite a bit less damage than he would be in Berserker’s. Not because of any difference in play, but because Berserker’s is equal to or superior to Explorer’s in every way. Explorer’s has absolutely no redeeming value in a fight over it.my point is that the person wearing explorer’s can have a redeeming value to him. The gear that he chose, it’s not my right to question why he chose what he chose. Does he still deal damage? Yes. Does he still help out? Yes. Would the run be faster if the party didn’t have anyone in his slot? No. Then why should I DEMAND the person to change? Isn’t it about allowing everyone to play the way they want to play? If they want to wear mf gear, let them. Instead of complaining you can just put LFGs that state that you will do a gear check if it bother you so much. While I will continue to not judge people on numbers.
Like I say, if he’s comfortable running Pow/Prec/MF he should be comfortable in Pow/Prec/Crit or Pow/Prec/Cond, yet chooses not to due to selfish benefits. Wasting 4 other peoples’ time for a selfish reason is rude and rudeness is not welcomed in group play.
I feel like I’m just regurgitating information now.
For the fastest kill you keep the boss at the protection totem and melee cleave them down. You can totally ignore the other 2.
Indeed they will, but if they are running Power/Prec/MF, why would they run Vit/Power/Tough? They clearly prove they don’t need the defence so would be fine using either Rampagers/Berserker depedant on their profession/build, yet limit their offensive capabilities for a personal gain.
Because they don’t want to. Why should they change just because you want them to? Isn’t that, I don’t know, selfish? What happened to “everyone is allowed to play the way that they want”! You seem like an elitist to me.
I will admit straight up that I am elitist, but a lesser kind that does allow error room so long as the person is capable and will not kick a player because he cost us 2 seconds in a run. I appreciate the game is there for enjoyment, but not at the cost of other players.
They should change because it does not benefit the group at all. Me asking them to do this is far from selfish, it saves the entire group time so is selfless if anything.
The issue is Magic Find benefits the rest of the group is no way. While I’m not a fan of vitality and dislike it, and believe toughness should only be on the group anchor, at least this will increase the survivability of that person allowing them to stay on their feet. Taking those stats means the player feels uncomforable, i.e. goes down a lot, without it.
let’s forget that they’re helping the team out and actually are doing some damage. Are you implying that a person not in exotics or ascendeds doesn’t contribute to the team? IF a person runs with rares in your opinion he should be kicked, because he’s in no way a help?
Lets take a closer look
let’s forget that they’re helping the team out and actually are doing some damage. Are you implying that a person not in exotics or ascendeds doesn’t contribute to the team? IF a person runs with rares in your opinion he should be kicked, because he’s in no way a help?
And a bit closer
let’s forget that they’re helping the team out
So let’s put it in and entirely hypothetical situation that isn’t the case? Okay.
As for rares, they are still being beneficial just not as much as someone in exotics/ascended with the same stat prefix will be. I would sooner take someone in rare berserker/knights than someone in ascended/exotic explorer purely because I do not promote selfish play, and if I was to accept Magic Find geared players I would be promoting selfish play.
Why would I take someone inexperienced to a high level Fractal? If someone such as the example here was to sneak in the group, I’d be able to quickly identify him and he’d be removed and replaced on account of being a bad player in difficult content.
So instead of teaching players and helping them out you kick them because you want perfection? I was right, you indeed are an elitist. I suggest you find a guild that shares your opinion instead of hurting random pugs.
If they still require learning they should be avoiding high level fractals. The level scaling is there for a reason – to climb them and learn the content. Why should I put up with someone who is, for example, level 18 in a 40+ fractal when he clearly isn’t experienced enough?
actually read each wiki page for the sigils, there is clear info there and it`s not 1.0 for all
Look at this near the bottom. Damage coefficient is one.
You are giving up offensive potential and wasting time. You are not only wasting your time, you are also wasting your groups. Wasting other players’ time is selfish & rude. So ArenaNet promote selfish play.
there is a new gear set.
Vitality being the highest stat, then toughness, then power. A mf user will outdamage this person.
Indeed they will, but if they are running Power/Prec/MF, why would they run Vit/Power/Tough? They clearly prove they don’t need the defence so would be fine using either Rampagers/Berserker depedant on their profession/build, yet limit their offensive capabilities for a personal gain.
Arena net let me discriminate against people, because I don’t like them! While we’re at it, why not show the party who has vitality, who has toughness
Did you try to run any high level dungeon with an inexperienced Berserker warrior? How much damage do you do while dirtnapping? How much a person can contribute doesn’t always depend on their gear. In fact gear plays almost no role in it.
Why would I take someone inexperienced to a high level Fractal? If someone such as the example here was to sneak in the group, I’d be able to quickly identify him and he’d be removed and replaced on account of being a bad player in difficult content.
As far as I know, damage is the same with a co-efficient of 1.0 for all 3 sigils.
While it’s a level 35 dungeon, it is actually one of the more difficult ones. Most PUG groups will fail even with a team of 80s in rare/exotic mixes.
If you’re kicked due to inexperience, just lie and follow players to hide it. Most people won’t take notice.
While this level of elitism will slow once you hit level 80, you will still be asked to link gear even in non-speedrun groups, aswell as being kicked because you don’t have “X” achievement points, which is a total joke.
Simple method is do the story and start your own runs.
Just a quick tip about magic find: you can achieve a lot of magic find without gear, and therefore isn’t all that bad.
Omnomberry Bar 30% MF – 40% Gold – +10XP
Guild Buff 10% MF
Guild Buff 5% XP
Guild Banner 5% XP
Guild Banner 10% MF
Magic Find Booster 50% MF or MF Bonfire
Experience Booster 50% XP
Laurel Coin Booster 30% Gold
Laurel MF Booster 30% MF
Laurel XP Booster 30% XP130% MF
70% Gold
90% XP
+10 Xp
Obviously Banners & Booster are totally acceptable.
Omnomberry Bars are to a lesser extent, but at least Gold Find is visible so you can actually see the effect, not to mention the stat loss for Magic Find is exponentially better on these. Really can’t blame player’s for using these.
This is what ArenaNet Game Director Colin Johanson has to say about the matter:
Some fun ideas in here, we’re also actively discussing ways on how we’d best like to alleviate having to make players choose between having better stats, or using magic find. It’s not a choice that’s great for game play and there isn’t really anything that fun about it, even more so when group composition is taken into account.
[Flame wall: Initiated!]
Magic find is a bad stat. This is not news to many, and many others refuse to accept it. I’m here to draw the line and briefly explain some of the reasons why it is bad.
Where is it good?
I will admit, Magic Find is actually good and I recommend to use it in some situations. I will list these situations below:
And thus ends that list.
Why is it bad for solo play?
Simple – You’re giving up offensive potential for an increased drop rate on certain items. So why is this bad in solo play?
Also simple – less kills per hour - Less kills per hour = less loot per hour. Counter-productive isn’t it?
While it wastes time in solo play, it only wastes your own time, which you are, of course, entitled to.
Why is it bad in group play?
This is the real issue with Magic Find and a sole reason it should not be in the game…
The person using Magic Find gear contributes the least, but get’s the best reward.
Why does this make sense? A huge design flaw.
You are giving up offensive potential and wasting time. You are not only wasting your time, you are also wasting your groups. Wasting other players’ time is selfish & rude. So ArenaNet promote selfish play.
What can be done about it in group play?
I’m bordering into suggestions here, but I’ll list a few methods to prevent selfish use of this stat:
TLDR; Magic Find is bad – don’t use it.
(edited by Flissy.4093)
You have 3 Leg weapons? .. wow your SO lucky to get the Precursors for those… LUCKY!
:) .. that is all! .. nothing else…Leg weapons are just like winning lotto… unless you grinned or played the TP and just purchased them. Neither of witch i want to do .. boring
No, 2. Spear & Sword, I assume you thought Anomaly (focus) was Legendary, but it isn’t, just exotic. Looks good enough to be one though!
I’ll admit I “farmed” a lot for my first (Bolt) but I just got the Spear by playing the game. I enjoy running dungeons with my friends and managed to get enough money that way.
It may take longer, but most players are able to get one just doing what they enjoy.

Knights [char limit].
I feel the need to repeat under no circumstances do you give your information to someone else, ArenaNet will never ask for your account information
I’m sure I’ve missed some important things, but it’s early and these were the most obvious to me.
Honestly, as long as you have 20 Dueling and 5 Illusions, the rest is up to you. May as well work yourself up to 10/20/0/0/20 until level 60 and swap into 0/20/0/0/30 shatter build when you get the book.
Scepter is a very weak weapon, you should swap it out for a Sword for leveling. A Scepter’s main benefit is confusion, which is very poor against AI controlled enemies. Staff is more defensive, and while it is fine to use it does mean your other option should be more offensive, i.e. Sword again.
While you may not like Sword, you better get used to it, it is a staple in ALL content for a Mesmer as one of their most offensive AND their most defensive tools.
Power/Precision/Crit% is the way to go, maybe Power/Precision/Toughness if you find you’re struggling a bit as Mesmers tend to when still learning.
Ether feast is certainly a better heal for leveling. Mantra of Pain is weak and poor and should be substituted for something else, similar with Phantasmal disenchanter. Signet is good for mobility due to occasional swiftness, it’s fine to keep on. What you are doing without Time Warp baffles me.
You have an assortment of utilities you can use:
Those are pretty much your only option.
Consider putting a focus in your bag to get around faster, I’m sure you’ve noticed how little out of combat mobility a Mesmer has.
I understand what you mean. While it’s largely considered a disadvantage, I like to keep mine on so I don’t mess up a feedback or something.
However, when I’m on my Warrior for example, I like to Rush past mobs but end up just rushing into them, so I have to play it totally off on her.
Fine tuning would be nice, but this is more suited to suggestions forum.
Only way I see stealth as “OP” is shadow refuge, which kind of relies you either having AOE bomb potential or a knockback.
While this isn’t a problem for other professions, I’m limited as a Mesmer
AN wouldn’t have removed your characters clothes as a punishment, you’d have just been straight up banned.
You got hacked, keep your account information confidential.
I would like to point out this may not be a bug, but entirely intentional for an unknown, illogical reason.
For those of you who don’t know, Kamohoali’i Kotaki (Legendary Spear) has an on-crit animation that causes the head of a “ghostly shark” to chomp on your foe.
This animation does not occur on a Mesmer’s auto attack chain. Seems quite illogical to me, so I am assuming it is a bug.
After investing a lot of time into this weapon, I would appreciate this being looked into if it is indeed a bug.
Either way, no regrets and would advise everybody to get one.
Naturally, I have reported it as a bug ingame.
Starter zones, especially Queensdale, are still buzzing.
High level zones, such as Cursed shore & Frostgorge sound, still fairly populated, mostly due to farming potential & large scale events.
Anywhere in the middle? Completely dead.
