The current system of siege requires players to either buy or earn siege by buying it and does not reward them with very strong incentives to place them. While being able to hold a keep or take a tower are good in encouraging siege placement, oftentimes it comes down to a very small number of players who are actually placing siege strategically which will make the difference.
Take for example the commander who spends 15 gold buying arrowcarts or ballistas and siegecaps the map with superior versions of them only to have them despawn overnight and only be useful the the 30 minutes the keep they placed it at is being attacked. Another example would be the dedicated guild who spends ten gold making golems only to have to port them back to save them for later and not recieve credit for taking a keep beacuse they took responsibility to save the golems for future use.
It doesn’t make sense that people who take over siege get more rewards than the commander who places them because the commander took initative for a counterpush and wasn’t able to tag as much loot as the guy sitting safely on an arrow cart.
TL;DR placing siege could be more rewarding to players if placed well. Maybe give them a lootbag for every 4 kills that they have tagged to relieve the monetary stress dedicated WvW commanders and players face since they are the ones spending the most money to make sure something is saved or taken.

You know it really sucks to put down 30 superiors just to have them despawn overnight.
Do you plan to use the siege to help in WvW or at least donate it to people who will use it? If not, then it’s pretty bad.
Field officers who lead charges usually die first.
One of the most discouraging things about WvW is the way event credit is given out. Many times several players who are attacking get locked out of credit for capturing say a keep or tower because they die in the middle of an assault or they choose to fight off people streaming in to contest a claimer circle rather than capture it. I’m not 100% sure on how the credit system works but there are also times where people have stood in claimer circles for the entire duration and not been rewarded credit, this makes it incredible discouraging to come back when the one reward came from an hourlong attack on stonemist castle. There are other litle things as well such as that the best way to secure credit for an event is to stand in the capture circle, many players will bunch up into it rather than pushing out so that their attack doesn’t fail. I don’t experience this very often myself however, many times after attacking a keep or SMC people end up not getting event credit.
I know commanders who spend 15 gold on siege and upgrades a day sometimes, unless you’re one of them you shouldn’t really be losing money in WvW.
Yeah, making them do something relatively useless but fun to fight for like the outmanned buff would be pretty cool.
So how do you plan to prove more people play WvW?
Also mystic coins are used for exotic weapon recipies in the mystic forge and since it’s 6 months in and not many new skins or uses for mystic coins are out fewer people have a need for them.
Depends on what I’m doing. Pistol for group fights because of the blind and shield skills, rifle for fights against one or two people for control and better DD.
I took 24000 damage from one just yesterday from the splitshot and something about that seems fishy considering I have 2.1k toughness on my build.
Sounds like a suggestion.
Penalized implies you’re losing something. Making less is not the same as losing.
Kind of why it isn’t a combat area.
-A potential cooldown on waypointing to deter thoughtless zergball ushes
-Arrow carts doing less damage to rams, because placing them behind gates is unfair
39, mostly WvW.
Khal. The NPCs keep adding might to him, we had 4 players with removers.
This guild mission ended up failing for my guild because we started it near a camp with Vigil NPCs at Gaunlet waypoint. The problem that occured was three of the vigil NPC aggroed against the boss and kept it’s might stacks up and they would autores after being downed every 15 or so seconds making it unfinishable for my guild.
Charr don’t need fashion sense. They’ll cut the sense out of you.
The question here is whether you think there should be a cooldown on how often you can waypoint in WvW.
My personal position is that there should be a 5-10 minute cooldown, because it seems silly that your zerg can just drop what they’re doing and have 50 people port back to stop a small ninja tower backcap group.
Invaders and duelists are nice.
Grenade engineers.
Let’s see what the average will be
Statistically inaccurate
Surveying forums leads to massive biases including Sample Bias and Response Bias. In this case there are at least 3 other biases not being accounted for off the top of my head.
So why don’t you guys just release the “accurate” statistics, then? Stop people from having to guess and make these kinds of threads in the first place.
Because, the secrets of the universe are not to be revealed so easily.
Ah okay, thanks
While playing my engineer, I noticed that when I have a kit equipped the attack stat on my character lowers by a large amount, in hte screenshots, I lose 180 attack power with a Grenade Kit equipped, is this a bug?
Hopefully my -25% condition duration melandru runes work properly.
Turrets don’t scale with your stats. Toughness is good with turrets because if you want turrets to do damage, then you want to be able to absorb more so they can crush people for you.
Please tell me how holding 2x supply is a fail? When you need half the people to repair and build.
Oh no, my berserker build now requires thought and skill because I can’t down someone in less than 3 seconds if they get CC’d.
It breaks stuns now.
Ancient wood and mystic coins.
Fruitpies can be good sometimes.
I bought two invaders medium masks.
You should probably remove the character names.
I can imagine the poor grawl trying to ride Veteran Karka and getting killed in throngs when they use the spin bash insta mega gib ability they have.
What’s so fantastic about firing regular arrows or arrows on fire, where else do you get deadly flying plants and unicorns?
Does this mean that the guarenteed drop is always a rare or is an exotic possible from this?
What exactly are they marketing? You don’t pay to WvW or for the update.
No No No. You cannot run as a glass cannon and be a commander. The reality is that you as the commander are likely the one leading the charge into an enemy. You can’t sit at the back and say “Ok guys, you go attack while I wait back here”. No one will follow you. You need to be at the front.
This is exactly the problem I have with the commander title. You can only be most effective playing a single build which you may not even like. I play a glass cannon ranger becuase I like supporting people without charging straight inside the fray and it works for me. I don’t stand around, I hit at least two people per shot. Maybe if they removed the repair costs from WvW this would actually work out.
Legit questions, what tier do you play in and what class are you OP?
Commanding in one tier is a lot different to commanding with another. Higher tier play often requires someone at the front leading the zerg train in the middle of a battle, and if you’re playing a glass on the front lines you’ll just go down repeatedly, and be more of a hindrance then a help. If it’s a lower tier you’ll be fine to sit at the back and pew pew.
That being said, I used to do a similar thing on my staff ele, but instead got it a full set of PTV gear to use. Look here and find out what temple karma merchants sell which pieces of PTV gear for you to buy, then get PTV trinkets from the Temple of Grenth, and then run the Ascalon Catacombs dungeon to get the rest of the PTV gear.
Or use your badges, but wouldn’t be amazed if they’re part of any WvW ascended gear recipes that gets implemented.
Just have to remember that a dead commander can’t command.
Tier 2 Server, Fort Aspenwood. I play mainly a Longbow + Sword/Axe Ranger
Ash legion fit that role pretty well I think.
I’m contemplating buying a commander tag to help coordinate my guild in WvW but I’m afraid with my current build it may not work out since I play with full berserker’s gear playing a long ranged support build favouring damage over control because I have trouble fighting in the middle of a battle in melee range. I’m pretty experienced in WvW, I know how to stay away from damage and to position myself and not be the first to die, however I’m afraid that because of this playstyle I use it will damage the performance a group following will have.
Does anyone else here playing as a commander roll glass cannon, and what advice would you have?
I prefer the non glowly intricately designed weapons personally like Eir’s Longbow, Naga Fang and the Ceremonial Swords over the flashy glowing lighty weapons that make you a dead giveaway target in WvW and clash with your armor set.
I question the taste of the community as a whole when black and whites are the most expensive dyes.
Most likely they’ll shoot back up with the release of new legendaries, easier to attain precursers or new mystic forge exotic recipies.
I don’t know if enslaving centaur would be a very good thing, but this seems like a fantastic idea. Maybe this could be a mobility based map rather than a more siege turtle based map like the current WvW maps are with more fragile keeps/towers. Maybe even automated defences on fortifications/points with stronger aoe to deter giant zergs.
