How about…
Edge of the Mist map
Aetherblade dungeon path
Southsun map
New FOTM maps
New Ascended gear
Guild Missions
Any number of activities
New Jungle Wurm

EotM had potential but the fact that it doesn’t contribute to WvW means that it’ll remain barren.

The fractal updates are a start in the right direction, but I honestly don’t PvE that often so I can’t really comment.

Ascended gear? You’re kidding, right? Exotics were supposed to be the be-all-end-all and then they decided to create yet another time and gold sink as if their game wasn’t grindy enough already. This is not content.

Guild missions are nice, but it’d be even better if small to medium guilds could actually participate.

I’m not even going to touch on the Jungle Wurm because the last thing we need is more world bosses.

I’d like to see some updates that actually add some depth to this game. New utility skills please and some new elite skills; three per profession is far too few. Or how about some new weapon sets for each class? Or, you know, considering that this is Guild Wars 2, I’d love to see some actual GvG functionality implemented.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Flytrap.8075

I’m going to have to agree with the others that ‘features’ are not the same thing (typically) as ‘content.’

What you are asking for, OP, is most definitely content. More races, more zones, more story. That is distinctly content.

Features on the other hand, are usually aspects of something larger. Additions or changes to systems in the game, for example. ‘Quality of Life’ are a type of feature. Colin gave us several examples of previous features (the wallet is the only one I remember being listed) so we could sort of understand what to expect.

This game is in dire need of new content, though.

And I’m not talking about another 15 months of Scarlet and her crazy shenanigans.

Features are not by definition tangible content.

Well, apparently the definition of feature is extremely loose; if removing repair costs counts as a feature, then I guess just about anything does.

You do realise that there will be a second season of Living Story right?

God forbid.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: if this thread was proclaiming the superiority of Wildstar over Guild Wars 2, this thread would be closed in a heartbeat. However, because it’s in favor of GW2, the mods have allowed it to stay open.

This thread is off-topic. Close it. Double standards OP.

If you owned a product and had a website associated with it would you leave good publicity for your competition on it? It’s not a double standard, it’s business.

I haven’t tried Wildstar but I have played ESO. While I prefer the art style, terrain design, customizable UI and character progression of ESO the controls gameplay of GW2 are just too good to even compare (speaking of PvP, WvW). I won’’t be moving on any time soon.

Thread saying random game is better → closed because off-topic.

Thread saying random game is worse → left open because ???

I think the medium armor classes just need a bit more differentiation; all of the other ones are unique enough.

If Engineer was a bright yellow, Ranger was a lime green, and Necromancer was a dark green, it’d be a lot more clear.

I realize that this is a pretty lame post when there is so much in flux with sPvP right now, but I feel like this is extremely low-hanging fruit.

Yes, but you have to realize the ones picking up the fruits are 100+ years old grandmas with hunched backs.

Have you seen Ready Up at all? Some of them look like they don’t even need to shave on a weekly basis.

These spry whipper-snappers should be able to change a few colors around.

This might be a dumb request, but I can be oddly OCD with things like this.

It bothers me how similar some of the class colors are in the pie chart that shows your games and number of wins for each profession in sPvP. For example, I have quite a few Ranger and Necromancer games from when I first started playing and the colors are barely distinguishable from each other.

Does this bother anyone else, or am I alone?

Feedback/Questions: PvP Reward Tracks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Flytrap.8075

Flytrap.8075

With this release, we are adding new runes, sigils, amulets, and traits outside of the core set. The core set is always open and available to all PvP players. New runes, sigils and amulets can be unlocked for your account with gold; new traits can be unlocked for your character for gold and skill points. These items are purchased directly from the UI. If it’s locked, simply click on it to unlock it!

That sounds like to have an actual level playing field you’ve got to pony up some gold. Isn’t that contrary to PvP design where skill rules all?

Their official stance is that unlocking traits counts as horizontal progression because they’re only increasing the variety of traits available to players, not the number of trait points.

However, I myself do not agree with this line of thinking; if you have more options available to you, obviously you’re going to have an advantage over a player that has more restrictions placed on their account.

For people who don’t play sPvP that much, these changes most likely look amazing.

However, what sort of gratification does this offer to hardcore sPvP players? If you’re rank 60, you pretty much have all the skins that you could ever want and the only real thing to work towards is your next rank, which ANet is about to slingshot them to.

It seems to me like this is a more tantalizing offer to get PvE players into sPvP.

Gw2 has no monthly fees
that’s what sells me on this game

I completely rufuse to support subscription based games as they are nothing more than a colossal rip off

Gw2 proves you can make a superb high quality MMO and not extort money from your fanbase every month

I would never have gotten into MMO’s or online gaming for that matter if it was not for Guildwars 1 and its no monthly fee policy

Really? I’ve had the exact opposite experience. Never have I seen a game rip you off more than GW2. I mean $100 a month on average to access all the games content… I’d gladly pay a pitiful $15 a month for the same privilege with the added bonus of the devs not purposefully designing inconveniences into the game to sell you stuff.

I disagree, there are games where you need to buy quest packs, certain races, mounts, classes, etc that is locked behind the cash shop. GW2 is not one of those games. you can not spend a dollar in the cash shop and still participate in everything some one who drops that $100 a month on skins, buffs, etc. I see you consider ‘skins’ to be essential content, I don’t think most people agree with you on that point. Id be happy to reconsider my opinion if you have specific examples of gameplay being cash shop dependent in GW2.

Infinite continue coin, watchwork pick, and airship pass are the 3 that come to mind right away. The coin and the pass are both examples of inconvenience deliberately being added to the game in order to sell an item. They nerfed the drop rate of coins by like 90% then introduced the coin in the gem shop the next day. They deliberately left out the crafting stations at vigil keep to make people either need to go through an additional 2 load screens, or buy a gem store item. The watchwork pick has taken it a step further in the fact that currently the only way for a new player to get watchwork sprockets is to either buy them from players with the pick or buy the pick themselves.

Additionally, since stat progression is not the goal of GW2, the only thing to work for at max level is cooler appearance items. However 99% of the new appearance items are locked behind the cash shop.

And no matter how loud people yell and scream it, converting gold to gems is not an effective solution. I should be able to earn the rewards by playing the game. I shouldn’t need to grind gold 50 hours a week just to get access to gem store items.

Again, I asked what gameplay is locked behind the cash shop. I guess maybe the musical instruments, but the items you listed are not examples of gameplay accessible to only gemshop costumers who spend “$100 a month”. convenience items are not gameplay.

I never said gameplay, that was you, I said content. Also I’ve noticed people use a very broad definition of convenience. There are sigils, accessories, and multiple other items that can only be made by crafting using watchwork sprockets. If you need to buy a gem store item in order to harvest them then I would say that goes beyond convenience. What if they suddenly locked other crafting items behind a gem store only pick? What if you could only get T6 mats if you had a gemstore item equipped? would that still be convenience? It is the same situation, just a different mat.

I consider unique armor and weapon skins that are much higher quality than what else is available to be content, since that look is what endgame is all about in GW2. I consider earning high powered gathering tools to be content. If they hadn’t sold them in the gem store then there could of been a series of quests or crafting unique items in order to forge a pick like that. It could have been some pretty cool content, but instead it was credit card fodder. That is what I mean when I say content is locked in the gem store.

Consider Wildstar for example since that is the comparison in this thread. In order to earn powerful rare dyes with special effects you need to complete specific challenges and earn a gold medal on that challenge. Things such as beating a certain boss under special conditions, killing a certain number of enemies in a set time, downing some combination of raid bosses, etc. In GW2 the rare dyes are RNG boxes in the gem store. I.E. potential content was removed and placed in credit card swiping RNG gamble boxes.

This basically.

The Gem Store is essentially a huge cop-out instead of offering meaningful rewards through actual gameplay.

Why are you gipping our Transmutations?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Flytrap.8075

Flytrap.8075

It’s not an equivalent exchange if your character isn’t 80.

The Transmutation Stones are for gear that is 1-79. Not players.

You should just count your lucky stars they convert at all. It’s an option for players to participate in the system without having to spend gemstones. Instead, you can make a new character and do map completion in the cities.

I have no idea why you would complain about this considering you’re a self-admitting level 80.

If your character isn’t level 80, none of its gear is either. I thought that was apparent.

I’m a self admitting 5 level 80s. And another 7 below 80, all of which having fully realized gear appearances with an expensive need for Transmutations. So why exactly should I not be upset that the Transmutations I currently have available to me will be divided by 3 as of the new system?

They obviously are looking to further monetize their game.

I’m more inclined to agree with your post.

For a game that has a “cosmetic end-game”, it’s pretty lame that it revolves around the Gem Store. Essentially all of the new weapon and armor skins are locked behind a gem purchase, and the drop rate on Silver Transmutation Stones is so low that you’re often forced to buy or convert gems in order to update your appearance.

I get that they need to make money somehow and that this game is not a charity, but I still feel as if the focus on the Gem Store is far too strong.

Personally, everything they’ve mentioned, I like.
1) Consolidated dyes? Yes, please. Account wide? Nice.
2) Consolidated skins? Unexpected, but I like it. Account wide? Awesome.
3) Removing armour repair costs? Sure, I like that.
4) Unlocking traits so you can modify your build anywhere? Perfect.

All of this is stuff I’m liking. Hell, friends who prefer WoW and TOR have said that the new things being added to GW2 is fairly bold – the other MMOs aren’t even touching the idea of ‘shared skins’ and ‘shared dyes’. Sure, this isn’t going to benefit EVERYONE, but it doesn’t have to, either. Overall, I’m finding this patch to be quite pleasant.

What you forgot to take into account is that the new wardrobe and dye changes are going to be tied to the Gem Store.

Yeah, it could be great. However, until we know about how it interacts with the Gem Store, it could actually just be an improved way to monetize their game.

Based on how they handled their public relations, I was expecting some rather large changes: new skills, new weapon sets for each class, new armor and weapon skins, some new zones, guild halls, etc.

Do you understand what “quality of life” and “feature” mean?

Pulled from http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-01-14-you-thought-that-was-it-for-guild-wars-2

Concern: 350 people! And all they’ve come up with are story updates people outside the game can’t connect with? Where are the big new features? Is there really no expansion planned?

Actually, it sounds like there is an expansion planned. “We have a couple of really big Guild Wars projects cooking in the background,” Johanson told me.

Later, he added: "Some of our players believe that because we are doing this Living World seasons, and these features or these big feature-builds, that it means that the features you would traditionally get in an expansion, or the content you would traditionally get in an expansion, is not something that will get added to Guild Wars 2. And that is not true at all.

“Not only are we doing those things, new features and content you would traditionally get from a boxed expansion are also things that will be added to Guild Wars 2.

“The thing that we haven’t decided yet,” he went on, "is what form that type of content will take. Is it right for Guild Wars 2 for that kind of boxed expansion? Is it right for that to be something we add, live, through storylines in the game? Is that something we want to sell through our in-game store? There are a lot of different options available to us.

“… but we absolutely are going to do sweeping new features that you would traditionally only get in expansions – large regions, content and progression additions to your characters in the form of growth and professions and races. Those are all things that you will see in the lifespan of Guild Wars 2.”

Aside from account bound WXP, the feature patch has been pretty underwhelming thus far.

Speak for yourself. To me there a more than that to get me excited.

I suppose I like the wardrobe changes considering that I have a pretty robust PvP equipment locker, but I’m skeptical as to how the wardrobe and the dye changes will be tied to the Gem Store.

I don’t have any legendaries, I have very limited Ascended items, and the Rune/Sigil overhaul was long overdue. I was also hoping for some significant balance changes (as in new weapon sets for each class, utilities, elites, etc.) yet all we got were a few traits.

So, yeah… the feature patch hasn’t really met my expectations, especially considering that we’ve waited over five months for it and ANet has constantly nipped any criticisms by stating that this patch would alleviate a lot of them. I’m hesitantly optimistic that the next blog posts will have something fantastic in them, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

Am I getting this right?

How do we know what are the 19 colors?

I open up 5 and got 3 fine, 2 master. Not even a rare. Did I got unlucky and hit 5 of the 19?

Or it can be ANY colors from the 400+ colors?

The dye kits are a huge rip-off.

I honestly would not even bother with them unless you’re willing to buy five or more. Seems like you got pretty unlucky with yours.

Has it been confirmed that the PvP cosmetic features are going to be tied to the Gemstore?

That’s extremely disappointing if true.

Seems like ANet didn’t learn anything from our CDI feedback.

Not that I’m surprised.

Don’t hold your breath … the locker datamined show that you would have to pay through gemstore each and everytime you want to withdraw a skin …. PLUS apparently, pay also to add a skin to the locker …
This would make it pretty close to useless :/

I really hope this isn’t true.

Are Those All The Balance Changes?

in PvP

Those were the high level changes, meaning we didn’t get into all the details for each profession (each and every # change), each weapon, each skill, etc. We were just trying to move through a lot of info in the Ready Up, so we didn’t get down into each and every # change for every class. That would be more of a detailed list you’d expect from game release notes for a release, for example.

Some of you have asked why we haven’t focused on fixing the issues already in the game. A lot of things have been fixed, but some concerns you guys have like with PW, HS, decap engi, etc. we decided to wait and see how the new traits will affect the meta.

This does not mean that we aren’t open to adjusting them.

Ultimately, we knew we wanted to add some more traits, so we wanted to focus on trying to make those good and then we can revisit them if they are still an issue. Does that make sense?

People have been waiting for a meaningful balance patch since PAX last year , but once again you failed to provide one. There’s always some excuse why you dont deliver. This time it’s the ‘we want to see how the new traits affect the meta’
Isn’t there really any professionalism or accountability left with you guys? What on earth the balance team does when it accomplishes so little or breaks the game even more and why it is still employed?
Why would anyone think it’s a good idea to introduce new skills before fixing what is broken in the first place?

It’d be one thing if they actually were adding new skills into the game, but it seems like we’re only getting these new traits.

If they planned on adding new utilities and elite skills with the feature patch, then I suppose I could understand their “wait and see” mentality. However, it looks like we’re only getting these traits, which aren’t going to have that big of an impact on the meta.

The fact that we’ve been waiting over four months for this is very disappointing.

From the looks of it the only balance changes will be those already spoilt in the “balance preview” which was months ago.

What does this mean?

It means no nerf to decap engis – so solo q is still unplayable
It means no nerf to pistol whip
It means no nerf to thief sustain in general (withdraw)
It means no nerf to AH guardian (so another year of bunker guardian required)
It means no nerf warrior (8% healing signet change doesn’t count sorry – espicially with sigil buff for them)

I kind of knew this would be the case based on:

1, Previously their announced balance changes (even when months before a patch) = their only balance changes.
2, Devs already announced they were “keeping balance changes to a minimum”

I think the rage when this balance patch comes out will hit new heights on these forums. Personally I would be astonished if they don’t address things like AR and pistol whip

Considering these are overview blogs are not only aimed at PvPers, but rather the community at large and that decap engi, AH guardian, PW thieves aren’t of great importance to them. I’d recommend that you should try and keep your panties out of a twist for a few more weeks, Rick.

Trust me. Those are the balance changes. We have 6 more months of decap engis and pistol whip thieves to look forward to.

I mean, dude, warrior is one of the things I don’t even care about right now. Warrior is balanced and fun to fight against compared to those two things.

What a complete and utter disaster this feature patch is going to be.

The SAME OLD PROBLEMS. I am VERY ANGRY NOW. SAME. OLD. PROBLEMS.

Anet: None of your new traits, sigils and runes matter for kitten. You can theory craft some new epic necro/ele/whatever build but it won’t matter for anything. You will have an awesome coherent build and then you go to play it and you just get pistol whipped to death over and over by an unhittable thief. What ruins this game isn’t what is not there. It is what is here. Addition by subtraction is something you people should be aware of. There is no point in this patch if we just get pistol whipped over and over still, or if we can’t even fight a 4v4 because of a decap engi on our close all game like a braindead idiot

This patch is going to be the worst ever produced. And I was excited about it. None of it matter anymore. New map? Who cares. I will just get pistol whipped 7 times in 10 seconds on that map too. So who gives a kitten.

If the only new addition to build diversity we get are these grandmaster traits and the rune updates, I’m going to be extremely disappointed.

Looking back, that dev post about “#elepocalypse” is super hilarious now. I thought that we would be getting new utilities, new elites, and new weapon sets, but I guess my expectations got the best of me; granted, that’s what happens when you shove everything in a “Feature Patch” that is over four months away and say absolutely nothing about it until it’s on the verge of release.

That post didn’t say anything they hadn’t already said. Useless, but a lot of nice words.

Also – I think it should be blatantly obvious to everyone by now that this game barely develops – glacial is quite accurate Flytrap.

I know, I was very disappointed to see that the blog post originally called “The Art of Combat” turned out to be the rune and sigil changes that we’ve known about since January.

I was hoping that this Feature Patch would breathe some fresh life into this game, but I’m not so sure anymore. Hopefully one of the next blogs will prove me wrong.

This game moves at a glacial pace.

One and a half years since release and we’re getting five new grandmaster traits per class and one new healing skill per class.

Very innovation. Much build diversity. Wow.

I’m disappointed that “The Art of Combat” turned out to be about the Rune and Sigil changes that we were made aware of a few months ago.

I feel like the title they originally gave us was very misleading.
